In this article we will talk about how the repair and alteration of the wall is carried out in wooden house. The topic of the article is of considerable interest, since lumber construction projects are becoming increasingly popular and, from time to time, the owners of such structures are faced with the need for repairs.

What can cause the need to repair lumber structures and how to do this repair yourself?

Features of lumber used in construction

Wood used as building material, characterized by mass various benefits such as low thermal conductivity, environmental Safety, simplicity machining etc.

But, along with numerous advantages, there are disadvantages:

  • Wood is less durable than brickwork or concrete structures.
  • Due to shrinkage processes and changes in moisture levels, lumber is deformed and changes its configuration.

Due to these features of wood, the wall can lead and then it will need to be tightened or strengthened.

Pulling down the walls

Consider how and how to pull the walls wooden house. As already mentioned, wood is not a static material that undergoes shrinkage processes and deforms during operation.

You can align the walls in the bathroom in a wooden house, as well as in another room, using the so-called "squeezes". In fact, these are two boards or two metal corners that are installed on both sides of a lopsided wall and fixed with bolts.

The range of devices used to compensate for shrinkage processes includes metal studs, capercaillie, galvanized steel pipes and wooden dowels.

Let us consider in more detail the features of their application.

  • metal hairpin is simple and at the same time effective fixture, which is installed in pre-drilled holes in lumber.

Important: A significant disadvantage of using metal studs for tightening walls is their high cost in terms of the amount needed to repair a medium-sized building object.
But, choosing these metal products, you can be sure that the renovated house will be durable, moreover, it will be possible to regulate shrinkage processes.

Aligning the walls in a wooden house with your own hands using metal studs largely depends on the type of lumber.

For example, walls from edged timber tightened with spikes and dowels. If logs are used as building materials, it is possible to connect the walls and ensure proper strength using MZP-metal plates.

Each of the listed finishing materials, subject to correct use, allows you to compensate for a significant difference in the level of the surface of the walls.

Conclusion

Now we have a general idea of how to level and strengthen load-bearing and interior walls. In addition, we considered how to trim curved surfaces so that they appearance did not spoil the aesthetics of the interior.

Are there any questions that need further clarification? More useful information you will find by watching the video in this article.

I continue to talk about building a house with my own hands, which is built from profiled timber. Wood is a rather capricious material, so there may be different kind nuances associated with the house.
Today we will consider one of them, namely, what arched the walls from the timber. In this video I will show one of the options on how to straighten the walls in a wooden house. I will level the wall in the house from a bar with the help of a pigtail (casing box)

V Lately Many people choose wood as their main material when building a house. In particular, timber, which is largely better than brick. True, walls made of timber lose, for example, to foam concrete in terms of thermal conductivity. But if you properly insulate the house, then you will be able to achieve good performance. Please note that insulation should begin at the time of construction. Must fit between the crowns insulation material. It will dry out and shrink over time. Therefore, after about a year (as soon as the walls of the house sit down and dry), you will have to do thermal insulation and caulking of all walls.

Used insulation materials

You will be interested:

When insulating a wall made of wooden beams, it is important to remember that only vegetable natural fibers are allowed to be used. They should not contain any artificial additives. Only in this case it will be possible to ensure the ecological cleanliness of the atmosphere. None unpleasant odors, extraneous sounds, harmful substances, will not appear in the house after processing the walls.

Now the trend of building private country houses from natural materials. For erection bearing walls many people choose wooden beam instead of brick or gas block. Products lose in terms of thermal conductivity to foam concrete, but with their help you can create a favorable indoor climate.

Wood breathes, allowing air to circulate, but there are also disadvantages to structures. One of them is shrinkage wooden building during operation. A year after the construction of the house, you will have to caulk the walls and lay additional thermal insulation. Shrinkage can lead to deformation of the building envelope, so you need to know how to level the wall from the timber.

Causes of wall deformation

Before leveling the walls, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the reasons that may cause the appearance of defects. At the time of installation of the house, a person stocks up building materials for the future. It is not possible to check the entire received timber for defects. Lumber must be made so that the core of the log is exactly in the center of the product. If this rule is not observed, drying will occur unevenly and deformation of the beam during construction or shrinkage of the building is inevitable.

Important! the best way out the alternation of differently directed elements is considered so that the elements compensate for the curvature of each other.

Another reason for the deformation of enclosing structures is the incorrect calculation of loads. When compressed, any element building structure will bend. It is necessary to seek the help of specialists who will help to make important calculations and identify overpressure in construction. To redistribute the forces on the wall, you will need several additional racks.

The last reason for the deformation of the enclosing structures is considered to be the incorrect installation of interventional insulation, which can squeeze out the timber. There is no need to dismantle the wall, you need to remove thermal insulation material and seal the resulting gaps.

Alignment work

At the initial stage of work, it is necessary to determine problem areas and stock up on everything you need to level the surfaces of the building envelope.

Preparation of material and tools

Before you level the walls in a house from a bar, you need to prepare the following tools and materials:

  • metal corners with a shelf of at least 6 cm;
  • long screws (9 cm with a diameter of 8 mm);
  • electric drill and wood drills;
  • Bulgarian;
  • threaded studs;
  • washers and nuts.

When performing work, they are repelled from the basic design of the building. The document indicates the layout of load-bearing walls and partitions. According to the project, you can decide on the installation additional elements, pigtail. The alignment of the wall from the timber inside the house occurs in different ways.

New building

Not all manufacturers pay attention to the quality of manufactured lumber, they are more interested in sales volumes. If wooden elements become crooked during drying, it is necessary to carry out work to eliminate surface defects. To align the wall, choose the most convex part and fix it to the transverse beam. The element is fixed to lower crown tightly.

To create a strong fastening, it is necessary to drill one through hole, insert a stud and tighten the threaded connection with a nut. After a while, the latch is tightened again and this is done several times until the timber takes its initial position.

Note! It will not be possible to quickly straighten the walls from the timber, this can lead to the destruction of the wood. The process can take up to a month. Accelerates leveling rainy wet weather.

You can fix the position of the lower bars with wooden wedges. wooden element hammered into the ground and secure his position. In the upper part, a wedge is carefully hammered with a heavy hammer. After some time, this part is again knocked out and operations are carried out until the wall is completely leveled. From the inside, the enclosing structures are covered with sheets of drywall or wooden clapboard.

an old house

Wooden residential buildings that have been in operation for at least 5 years are considered old. During this period, there is a complete shrinkage of the residential building. In old buildings, it is necessary to first strengthen the window and doorways. Lack of casing is considered the main cause of wall deformation.

To align the enclosing structures at the points of contact with the openings, a metal corner with a shelf width of at least 6 cm is used. The element must correspond to the length of the opening. They cut off the timber that will be used as a rack, prop it up with a jack and wind up a corner under the opening. In the last element, it is necessary to drill three holes with a diameter of 8 mm.

Fastening the corner to the bar is carried out using thickened screws. To prevent wood cracking, fasteners lubricated with used engine oil. The screws are tightened evenly, in turn. After that, the metal corner is covered with a layer of paint, which will prevent corrosion of the material.

Thick metal rails are used to straighten the walls from the inside. Elements are applied to concave surfaces along the height of the walls. They are fixed using threaded connections in three places - above, below and in the central part of the structure. To align the walls with your own hands, you need to gradually tighten the nuts. After straightening, the surfaces of the tires remain in the same place. They can be hidden under the finish (drywall sheets).

Quite often, some time after the construction of the house, the owners notice that individual elements arched, and do not know how to level the wall from the timber. The wall is gradually deforming, and this can only mean one thing: the newly built house becomes emergency.

Leveling the wall of a newly built house

Building shrinkage is a scourge that affects buildings made of any type of material. But the alignment of the walls wooden houses carried out according to a rather specific method, which requires mainly patience. If the building is new but some of the timbers are starting to buckle inward or bulge outward a little, shrinkage may be one of the reasons. Unfortunately, quite often poorly dried wood goes on sale.

During its preparation, the manufacturer violated the technology. Perhaps the timber was not cut strictly from the core of the tree. The last fact can be checked at the time of acquisition: the core cannot be displaced. If it is slightly on the edge, the material will “lead” due to uneven shrinkage. During the construction of the structure, such bars are installed in different directions to compensate for subsequent deformation and automatically level the walls.

Another reason for the deflection of the wall can be excessive overload: without strengthening the wall or with too thin bars, another floor was erected, the roofing materials, the structure itself does not provide for such a load. In this case, additional support posts (at least 2) are installed near the wall, and then the curvature is corrected.

If the alignment of the walls must be carried out from the outside, in the inner part of the structure is installed cross beam which is firmly attached. Using tools, it is necessary to drill a hole that will go out the most curved and protruding timber. It just threatens to destroy the entire wall. A pre-prepared metal needle with a diameter of about M12 is inserted into the hole and fixed. Nuts are screwed through sufficiently wide and therefore practical and durable washers. Great care must be taken not to damage the wall in the house.

The process of curvature itself takes place gradually, and with a sharp impact, the wood can only be damaged, evenly lying bars will shift, guaranteeing the owner only unplanned overhaul the entire building. This process leveling is effective, but the screed can be delayed even for months until the beam returns (smoothly, without damage) to its original position. Stretching is carried out by a few millimeters daily, a particularly favorable time is rainy days.

The proposed method is suitable for only built log house, whose owner immediately noticed the emerging problem. If it is not possible to find a sufficiently reliable beam for fastening, it is possible to create a screed using metal profile, channel and other relevant improvised materials of the required size and rigidity. The lower elements of the wall, located at the foundation, are returned to shape with the help of wedges that are driven into the ground near the wall, and frequent straightening, but only in suitable (rather wet) weather.

Strengthening the wall of an old wooden house

The walls of old structures, and as such it is customary to consider buildings built more than 5 years ago, are strengthened more easily. The shrinkage process has already passed, the house showed the mistakes made during the construction, the owner has already taken up their elimination.

It is practical that the installation of a pigtail becomes a mandatory rule in the construction of housing made of wood. Thanks to it, the load on the wooden parts located above the openings is removed, shrinkage is more even, there is no pressure on installed doors, frame and glass windows. Casing guarantees to some extent the absence of gaps or cracks that may occur over time in housing from a bar.

Tools and materials for leveling the bulge to prepare:

  • 60 mm metal corners;
  • screws 8x90;
  • reinforced washers;
  • drills for working with wood;
  • drill;
  • Bulgarian.

the value metal corners determined based on the existing size of the opening (with the addition of about 10 cm).

After measurements and markings, the marked area is sawn off. In addition, no more than 5 cm is carefully sawn off at the ends of the corner to fix the product in the area of the upper and lower bars. The corner is drilled in 3 places: from below, exactly in the middle and from above. Similar holes must be made in the place where the screed will be carried out.

If the situation allows, it is better to carry out the procedure at the same time, leaning the support tool against the pigtail. It will not be necessary to take measurements several times, the possibility of making a mistake is significantly reduced. The depth of the drilled recess in the beam should not exceed 5-8 mm. Next, the corner is fastened to the screws, which it is desirable to pre-lubricate oily liquid. By resorting to such a small trick, you can greatly facilitate the twisting procedure for yourself, avoiding the danger of small chips on the tree.

It is especially important not to tighten the screws too much and be sure to install reinforced washers on them. After that, it is carried out periodic check screws with their smooth tightening until the bars are as level as possible. You need to be patient, as excessive zeal will only lead to the breakdown of the already fixed screw head.

The manifestation of curvature of the walls of houses cannot be ignored, as the problem will only become more noticeable. You can flash the most protruding beam, pull it up and strengthen the wall from the inside and outside of the house. Sometimes, upon completion of the reconstruction, the metal parts are removed, and this is deeply erroneous: the deformation may begin again. It is better to leave the structure and, if metal was used, treat it with an anti-corrosion compound. The wood is covered with an antiseptic liquid, and then the surface is masked.

Additional wall fixation

Installed screeds can be beautifully disguised, additionally protecting the walls from deformation. From the inside of the structure, a crate is carried out with metal or wooden slats that pull the wall. If necessary, a heater is laid and a film on top of it that protects the material from moisture. If the house is located in a cold region, it is worth installing a shielding foil that will provide additional heat protection. The presence of a film against the wall is mandatory: most modern materials for warming rooms does not tolerate moisture, steam, and with prolonged exposure loses its qualities. The next step is sheathing with plasterboard, wood, clapboard or block house.

If the wall is curved outside and its alignment was carried out, the metal parts used are insulated and then torn finishing materials. If the situation is not running, the wall is plastered. To avoid further possible deformations, the walls are sheathed with siding from the outside. Quite often if wooden structures align, but they continue to deform in new areas, as a saving measure they are covered with bricks. It is important not to forget about the necessary vapor barrier in this case.

Wood for housing construction always has a special appeal. It is always pleasant to be in such a house, its atmosphere is exceptionally friendly. Therefore, you should not abandon this building material only because of the risks associated with the possible deformation of the walls. There are many possibilities for repairs. on your own, improving the design and increasing the value of your home.
