Built-in bed in the closet. All ways to create a wardrobe-bed Do-it-yourself folding bed frame

Compact and multifunctional folding furniture is a great option for a small apartment. Often the same room has to be used for different purposes, and the room has to be transformed from one state to another very quickly, so the use of folding furniture is most welcome.

The principle of operation of a folding bed. a - the bed can be easily removed from the cabinet niche; b - bed in the unfolded form.

A folding bed is one of the most popular options for creating a versatile room.

Folding bed options

  1. Folding. Very convenient option, which allows you to significantly save room space, since the structure can be completely removed. You can make such a bed yourself, just take an ordinary spring mattress, place it in wooden frame and fix the structure with loops to a bar nailed to the wall.
  2. Bed secretary. This design consists of two bearing racks, to which a folding bed is attached. The outer wall in this case, when folded, will serve as a desk cover.
  3. Folding bed. A well-known version of the Soviet era. Modern folding beds are more comfortable and compact, they can be easily folded, they can be stored in special bedside tables and lockers.

Hinged design features

Folding structures are horizontal and vertical. If we are talking about a bed for a child, then most often they choose a horizontal option, which the child is quite capable of folding on his own. As for the load on the folding bed, it can be absolutely anything, so it is perfect for everyone, regardless of the weight category. Solid wood or chipboard is used as the main material, and an obligatory element is lifting mechanism in the form of gas lifts or special springs. It is more rational to use gas lifts, the service life of which is longer than that of springs, and besides, they do not need additional adjustment. You should also take into account such a nuance as fastening the bed, which is possible only if you have thick concrete walls.

Folding bed is a multifunctional piece of furniture. Additional shelves above it and on its sides, cabinets, shelving, you can provide a special compartment for bed linen. If your bed is retracted into a closet, then another similar storage closet will look good next to it. The folding design can fit into almost any interior, regardless of the size of the room and its purpose. The main thing is to carefully work on stylistic design rooms and correctly select other pieces of furniture. The dimensions must comply with generally accepted standards: the width of a single bed should be 80 cm, a double bed - 160 cm, length - at least 2 m. In accordance with the dimensions, a mattress is selected, the filling of which can be very diverse depending on personal preferences.

Making a folding bed yourself

To build a bed with your own hands, you will need boards, chipboard or fiberboard, plywood, fasteners, a lifting mechanism, hinges, a mattress, belts. First of all, it is worth drawing up a draft of the sleeping area, in which all dimensions will be accurately indicated. The best option there will be a transforming bed that folds into a closet. In this case, its width and length should be slightly less than the width and height of the cabinet. Then we proceed to the manufacture of the frame of the future bed from boards and chipboard. Please note that the design must be, on the one hand, durable, on the other - light. The front legs of the bed can be made in the form of a solid wall, hinged.

Particular attention should be paid to the installation of the lifting mechanism. As noted above, it is best to use gas lifts as a lift, the power of which is selected in accordance with the weight of the bed. gas lift installed in this way: the parts are attached to the sides of the bed and the sides of the cabinet. The next step is to mount the shock absorbers first from the bottom and then from the top. If you decide to make a single bed with a light bed, you can limit yourself to hinged hinges, do not install an additional lifting mechanism. After the construction and installation of the bed frame and the installation of the lifting mechanism, you will only have to lay the mattress and secure it with special belts. The final chord will be the installation of cabinet doors and adjustment of fittings. Your folding bed is ready for use.

Any folding bed- it's wonderful design move both for a small room and for a spacious room. During the day, the room can be used for recreation, classes, work, and at night to relax on comfortable bed. By making a folding bed with your own hands, you will create a unique and original interior while saving significant money.

If a person lives in a small apartment, the lack of space becomes a serious problem. The folding bed literally disappears in just a few seconds! By making a wardrobe bed with your own hands, you can solve the issue associated with the shortage square meters: expand the nursery, freeing it for games, turn the guest room into a home office, the living room into a mini-hotel, given the frequent visits of relatives, and the bedroom can become a gym.

About serious and funny

So what is so fascinating about the design of the “invisible” bed? Is it really a bed? Or is it a closet? A huge mattress can be neatly hidden, is it really easy to do? Yes! And the transformer was invented not yesterday, but at least a century ago. According to legend, the inventor of the device, William L. Murphy, lived in one-room apartment in San Francisco. The moral code of those times did not approve of women who dare to enter a man's bedroom, so the savvy guy turned the bed into a closet, and his room into a living room, not forgetting to get a patent for an invention in 1900. However, at this very moment, Thomas Jefferson already had his beds hanging from ropes and hooks in the niches of the bedroom. Murphy is said to have married the very girl who inspired him to transform the apartment.

Changing the living space today is seen as a lifestyle choice, and folding bed-transformer solves multiple problems. Modern versions of various models can have glass, mirrors and beautiful lighting, as well as shelves for computers, TVs and music centers. Some apartment owners decorate the walls above the bed with expensive artwork.

Combination of elegance and ergonomics

Folding bed-transformer can serve up to 60 years! Since the first model, many designs have been created: the bed can be laid out horizontally and vertically, be bunk and have additional functions. For example, beds with tables and models with sofas are popular.

The vertical version of the bed is considered traditional. horizontal bed good for narrow rooms and premises with low ceilings, for example, it can be installed in the attic.

After installing the wardrobe bed, the room turns into:

  • bedroom-office;
  • bedroom-living room;
  • children's bedroom.

When deciding to make an “invisible” bed, you should take a closer look at interesting ideas:

  • The transformer can be supplemented with comfortable bookshelves.

  • The horizontally located folding bed is easily attached to a low modular furniture.
  • An interesting solution is when the room is made in a Japanese minimalist style and the built-in bed looks like shoji walls.

  • A transformer in a teenager's room can become part of a cozy corner cabinet.
  • In a children's wardrobe-bed, it is sometimes convenient to make a bunk bed.

  • The transformer can have an unusual image if you make the decor with your own hands. The retro space is adorable!
  • A wardrobe bed can appear in an apartment made in any style. For example, with an appropriate solution to its design and decor, it will look good in the sophisticated French atmosphere of Provence. gray sliding doors add the necessary texture contrast.

What do you need to know?

The transformer, which the simplest drawings give an idea of, consists of 4 key components:

  • lifting mechanism;
  • heavy-duty magnetic clasp that prevents the bed from falling out;
  • bed frames;
  • closet.

Any modern mechanism designed for a wardrobe bed provides easy folding.

The lifting system can be:

Spring mechanism. Typically, it consists of heavy-duty compressed steel springs in the bed frame that make lifting and lowering easy. But after several years of intensive use, the springs need to be adjusted.

piston mechanism. Unlike spring device, pistons are safer, last much longer and break less.

Each mechanism is designed for a certain weight. A pair of metal springs or a piston lift make it easy and safe to fit the bed box into the frame. A secure latch will keep the furniture in the closed position.

It is important to remember that the mechanism in creating modern bed Murphy is the most important. Installation of equipment is likely to be the most time-consuming part of the work. Only correct installation according to the instructions guarantees the reliability of folding. If the mechanism for the wardrobe bed is purchased in stores furniture fittings, the installation diagram, which is easy to understand, will definitely be attached to the kit.

A person who has ever made a wardrobe or similar large-scale piece of furniture with their own hands probably has all the skills to embed a transformer into a wall.

The manufacturing process of the piece of furniture itself includes:

  • creating a cabinet that looks like a frame;
  • the bed frame to which the legs are attached.

Beds that are hidden in the closet do not have heavy spring mattress structures. Typically, an orthopedic or regular mattress rests on a wooden platform, wire mesh, or slats and is secured with elastic straps that hold it in place when the unit is folded vertically.

How to make calculations?

To create a bed, the most attractive option is to use a combination of plywood. high class and solid wood. As already mentioned, on the sides of the cabinet, designed to hide the bed, you can add bookshelves, and embed halogen lighting in the upper part of the frame. The front panel of a structure can look as simple as a piece of plywood or as complex as a piece of antique furniture.

The height of the legs, sides and the height of the part of the mattress protruding above the sides - total height bed, on which the depth of the cabinet structure depends. Usually it is about 450 mm ( standard height chair) - comfortable to sit down.

Given the thickness of the lifting mechanism, simple calculations can be made. If the mechanism has a thickness of 32mm, then the gaps between the sides of the bed and the sides of the cabinet will be 32mm on each side. Accordingly, the calculation takes into account the width of the bed, the thickness of the sides of the base, the gaps for installing the mechanism and the thickness of the sidewalls of the cabinet.

The height of the cabinet depends on the length or width of the bed.

Work order

The biggest hurdle for many people is finding a place to do carpentry work. Therefore, it is worth considering the issue of assembly in the garage or renting a special room for a while.

To make a transformer, you need to prepare the following tools for work:

  • centimeter tape measure;
  • building level, square;
  • electric drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • grinding machine;
  • keys (hex);
  • Screwdriver Set.

In addition, you will need quality materials. Based on the size, you need to make a list of them.

A mattress, regular or orthopedic, should be purchased immediately to check the dimensions of the bed frame and wardrobe. Pillows tend to be stored in a closet or chest of drawers rather than on the mattress when hidden.

  • Bed frame assembly

The frame consists of 4 boards of the same height, which will serve as the sides of the bed. It is important to create an even rectangle with 90° corners. The frames are connected with glued wooden pins. After the glue dries, in order to finally fasten the sides, self-tapping screws and furniture corners are used. Along the perimeter, you can nail a rail having a section of 100x50 mm, it will serve as a limiter for the mattress.

The base can be made from a single piece of plywood or, for example, it can be knocked down from planks. There are many options. Important! Sometimes additional stiffeners may be needed. At this stage, you can decorate.

  • Cabinet frame assembly

The cabinet frame parts are fastened in the same way as the bed frame parts.

When tilting the bed, the wardrobe can simply fall to the floor. To avoid this, you need to attach it to bearing wall using metal corners. Fasteners are placed as high as possible on the sides. If the folding bed is hidden in the design of the furniture wall, then the weight of the wall will be a good insurance, in the case when the cabinet is located “opposite” between the ceiling and the floors, it theoretically cannot fall in any way.

  • Bed legs

The legs can be made independently by ensuring their embedding with furniture hinges, and can be purchased together with the mechanism.

  • Installation of mechanisms

The spring or piston mechanism is installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

It is not always possible to equip your home the first time. Sometimes it takes years to make repairs in the apartment to achieve the desired result. It is very difficult to create comfort and coziness in small rooms of small apartments. The solution to the issue can be completely unexpected - this is a bed in the wall or in the closet, which can make the room not only functional, but also beautiful. A bed built into the wall is very popular in apartments where there is not enough free space.

Like any other furniture, a folding bed has its advantages and disadvantages.

  1. Saving usable space is the main task of the built-in bed. When assembled, the furniture looks like a closet, and at night it turns into a comfortable sleeping place;
  2. A variety of models - furniture developers have come up with several styles and types of similar models. It is easy to find an option in the old classic design or high-tech style. The surface of the product on the outside is sometimes decorated with mirrors that visually increase the volume of the room. This technique is very successful for small rooms;
  3. The functionality of the product - at the base of the bed, special partitions serve as supports, which, when the bed is raised, are transformed into shelves;
  4. With the help of a built-in bed, you can change the interior of the room, disassembling and assembling the bed.

Along with the advantages, there are several disadvantages of the product:

  1. High cost - this is due to the installation of expensive lifting mechanisms in the design of furniture. The price of a bed consists of several factors: product frame material, upholstery, mattress, installed lifting mechanisms;
  2. The need for daily transformation of the bed;
  3. The unreliability of the lifting mechanism in low quality models. Some owners of such furniture have a fear that the bed can be assembled at the most inopportune moment - when a person is sleeping;
  4. On folding furniture, unlike stationary, you can not sit down at any moment. To rest, you have to disassemble it.

Kinds

Bed that retracts into the wall or closet appearance is no different from a regular wardrobe. Handles are installed at the bottom of the bed base, and decorated with surrounding furniture.

In the furniture industry, two types of built-in products are produced:

  • horizontal;
  • Vertical.

The first option provides for single and one and a half models. The dimensions of the berth are made smaller than the overall size of the bed so that there is room in the upper part for the shelves. They are used to store various things. Vertical lifting beds are wider than horizontal ones. Given the length and weight of the product, the model is mounted to the wall of the room. The wall must be strong and reliable to support the weight of the structure. Walls out drywall sheets And cellular concrete won't fit. Modern ways production allow you to create various options design of furniture products.

By type of construction, the following types of folding beds are distinguished:

  • A bed with a lifting vertical mechanism built into the wardrobe with a headboard against the wall;
  • Built-in bed with horizontal mechanism side to the wall;
  • Wardrobe bed with sliding halves that cover the assembled bed.

According to the type of bed, built-in beds are:

  • Single beds - differ in a narrow mattress, within 80-90 x 180-200 cm;
  • Lorries are wider, they can comfortably accommodate an adult or two children. Dimensions range from 120-140 x 180-200 cm;
  • Double - options that offer a full bed with a width of 160-180 x 190-200 cm. You can choose an option that consists of two halves of 70-95 cm wide;
  • Three-sleeping - are a two-level design with an upper bed of 70-90 cm and a lower bed of 120-160 cm;
  • Bunk - most often installed in children's rooms. The width of the products is in the range of 80-120 cm, the length varies from 150 to 200 cm.

All of them are equipped with a spring or foam mattress. The frame of the furniture is made from medium density fibreboard (MDF) or laminated particle board (chipboard). The use of natural wood in lifting products increases the overall weight of the structure, and therefore requires the installation of reinforced lifting mechanisms, which affects the cost of furniture.

Folding bed

This kind upholstered furniture is in great demand. The main requirement is the practicality of the product. Rollaway beds within small room help create the image of a bedroom combined with a living room or a children's room.

The strength of such products is their ability to simultaneously create comfort and save space. Furniture can be folded and disassembled, saving the interior from congestion. The type of folding bed is vertical or horizontal. A folded bed makes room for other activities.

In appearance, the folding design is completely different. In stores you can see both budget options and quite expensive copies. If the furniture is still beyond the power to buy different reasons, then it is easy to do it yourself. It just needs to be properly prepared. desired material and fixtures. For the installation of the structure, the walls must be reliable and durable, made of a material that can withstand heavy loads. Do not use drywall walls or partitions as a base for installing a folding bed, as well as light wooden walls.

Built-in closet

Beds built into wardrobes, according to the size of the bed, are divided into:

  • Double;
  • Single;
  • Lorries.

Sometimes they install two beds built into the body of the furniture set. In small rooms, a closet with a bed on lifting devices is often used. The cabinet doors move apart, the bed lowers, while the headboard remains only three dozen centimeters inside the cabinet, which does not interfere at all. The main disadvantage of this design is that the opening of the cabinet sash blocks neighboring furniture. This is very inconvenient, because if you need to take something from the shelf, you will need to raise the bed again and close the closet.

To avoid this, they came up with one trick - a wardrobe with triple doors, each of which has its own guide. All doors sliding along the rails are moved to one extreme position, opening the bed for use and sections for linen or things. It is advisable to install this design in small rooms. However, open cabinet doors do not always have an aesthetic appearance.

No less interesting will be the built-in bed model in the closet. The result is a practical and multifunctional building. During the day it can be used as furniture for relaxation, and at night you can sleep on a full double bed. Such furniture is conveniently placed in the living room and hall.

In the children's room there is always not enough space for games. With age, the baby needs more and more free space. A folding bed in a wall or closet or a bed built into the closet is the only godsend for loving parents. On reverse side The base of the bed can securely fix children's photos or any paintings. After lifting the base and placing it in a vertical position, the decorated surface of the imaginary wall will open.

If two kids live in the apartment - it doesn’t matter, you can safely install two built-in beds at once so that you get a bunk model. Drawers for linen can be mounted in the lower tier, and secret lockers can be provided in the structure of the stairs leading to the upper bed. It will be convenient if the lifting mechanism is fixed on the side of the bed, then it is easier to open it.

Hidden

The use of a hidden structure in the interior of an apartment is considered the most effective and convenient method for solving the shortage of square meters. Modern standard beds occupy almost the entire area of the room. Because of this, there is nowhere to install other furniture, and there is simply no place for everyday pastime. The hidden bed solves this problem.

The sleeping place is very quickly hidden in a special recess in the wall. Moreover, when assembled, it almost does not differ from the surface of the entire wall or cabinet. The outer side of the hidden furniture is matched to the tone and quality of the surrounding material. The furniture wall next to the bed will not differ in any way, but will look like a single whole. Designers have developed many practical ideas creating hidden furniture. For example, when rising, the bed turns into a shallow closet with shelves. Or an option when at the bottom of the product with outside is fixed large mirror, which in a vertical state increases the space of the room.

On the surface of the furniture, you can apply a drawing or fix the original picture. They will serve as part of the decor of the interior of the room.

Transformer

A convertible bed that folds into a wall or closet includes two types of furniture - a functional closet and a comfortable bed. In the assembled state, the bed does not interfere with anyone and is not visible. If necessary, the design lowers and opens a sleeping bed, where you can relax. In addition, drawers for storing things are often added to the design of the bed.

There are models of beds in which, when raised, the bottom transforms into a storage system. Here shelves can be folded down, holders for hangers can be pulled out. After folding, things on the shoulders are neatly folded into a niche under the mattress.

The built-in bed-transformer is good decision use of free space in apartments with a small living area. Stopping on the choice of this type of furniture, before you buy it, you should carefully study the types of transformable furniture products from various manufacturers.

Mechanism types

Furniture production does not stand still and is constantly evolving. Popular models become obsolete over time and new ones come to replace them, which are also gaining wide popularity. Beds built into the walls and wardrobes have been for long years do not give up their position and remain in demand. They gained their fame thanks to special mechanisms that allow them to be lifted vertically without much effort.

lifting device - important element in the design of a transforming bed. Thanks to these modules, the entire structure, which weighs several tens of kilograms, easily rises and turns into a vertical fragment of a cabinet or wall. Separate several lifting devices:

  • Manual way;
  • Spring mechanism;
  • Gaslift.

The first option is the cheapest, but also the most capricious, requiring periodic adjustment and some effort when lifting a piece of furniture. The mechanism does not contain additional springs and shock absorbers, the lifting is carried out completely by hand.

The second method is less labor intensive. In the spring version, there are already special shock absorbers in the form of twisted springs, which allow you to raise the base of the bed without much effort.

Coiled springs are made of durable carbon steel wire. The service life of such mechanisms reaches 70 years, and this is with the daily transformation of furniture. The only drawback of the device is the appearance of noise during operation. Springs can stretch over time and need to be replaced.

The third option is the most convenient and difficult. The operation of the module is based on the action of piston devices filled with compressed air. When changing the position of the folding bed, the lifting mechanism smoothly changes the position of the furniture. At the same time, you don’t need to make any special efforts, the device will do everything by itself. The gas elevator is by far the most expensive of all types of devices.

There are models of devices equipped with electric drive With remote control. This is a great way to transform furniture for people with disabilities or those who appreciate all things man-made.

The design is convenient to use, compact, technologically advanced, provides quality rest. Folding bed do it yourself - a budget option. Self-assembly reduces the cost of the product, allows you to develop an author's design, add details (shelves, mirrors, etc.).

Types of folding beds

Designs with a folding mechanism are multifunctional, because. combine several pieces of furniture. Manufacturers produce beds combined with a wardrobe, with a sofa or a shelving unit. There are designs that transform into a cabinet.

A bed with a folding mechanism, built into the closet, allows you to accommodate a single bed or a double Euro-format bed. Options have been developed that hide 2 separate beds. The doors of the simulated cabinet can swing open or slide apart.

Models of beds combined with a wardrobe and a sofa are ergonomic and allow you to equip a place for daytime relaxation. The design is roomy, so only double format models are produced. A bed with a sofa is more expensive than other transformers.

The design with the folding mechanism can be modified in a curbstone. In the disassembled state, the product is a sleeping bed, and during the day it makes room for a study. The model is budgetary, because does not require a powerful lifting device.

Place a folding bed on the balcony - ergonomic solution For small studios. But to organize a place of rest, you will need to insulate the room.

Folding beds can be with one or more tiers. More common products are single. Designs with 2 tiers are used in the arrangement of rooms for children and adolescents.

According to the method of opening, the models are divided into 2 groups: transverse-folding (horizontal) and longitudinally-folding (vertical).

The vertical rise bed is popular in small apartments. The sleeping bed is fixed perpendicular to the wall surface. The model is not limited in length and width. The size range is represented by single, one and a half and double products. The designs are massive and not intended for children's rooms.

Horizontal lift beds are suitable for narrow spaces with low ceilings. Designs are optimal for attics and children's rooms, because. take up minimal space even when unfolded. Products can be disguised as bookcases and shelves.

Types of fasteners

3 types of folding mechanisms for transforming beds have been developed: manual, spring, gas.

IN handheld device there are no elements that facilitate the lifting of the bed, so physical effort is required during operation. The mounting structure is simple, reliable and budget. However, the mechanism is not suitable for children's bedrooms.

The design on springs is universal, with affordable price. Twisted spirals are used in the lifting mechanism. The manufacturer issues a guarantee for the system from 3 to 5 years. During the operation of the bed, it is required to inspect and control the condition of the springs.

The gas mechanism is the most functional, reliable, durable. The device does not require physical effort during operation, because. the bed is raised by gas lifts. The power of the mechanism is selected depending on the dimensions of the structure, the weight of the mattress. The manufacturer's warranty on the devices is 10 years. The cost of the mechanism is high.

Fasteners are selected taking into account the dimensions of the bed. The configuration of the room and the availability of free space affect the choice of horizontal or vertical view lift.

The power of the gas mechanism is selected taking into account operating conditions. Some devices have a limit permissible load, therefore, it is necessary to take into account the weight of the bed and mattress when choosing a wall attachment system. Complete with mechanisms, amplifiers and blockers are implemented to protect against arbitrary operation of the device.

Folding bed drawings

In the production of a folding bed with your own hands according to the drawings, you can use schemes with standard parameters. Custom design is also possible. You can design furniture according to drawings designed for dimensions, room configuration and required functionality. The product can be supplemented with a chest of drawers, drawers, shelves, including them in the drawing.

Typical design should be built using the parameters of the bed base, cabinet frame, lifting mechanism, decor elements. It is required to fix the box to the wall, based on the dimensions displayed on the dimensional and assembly drawings. It is important to accurately carry out the mounting scheme of the power element, taking into account the thickness of the mechanism, the height and width of the bed, the thickness of the sides, etc. You want to display main fastening lines in drawings.

Self-assembly of the structure

Before you make a folding bed, you need to prepare a set of tools, raw materials, elements and installation schemes. Will be required wooden beam under the frame edged boards for crossbeams, and for sidewalls and headboard - furniture boards. The kit includes plywood sheets, loops for fastening the structure to the wall, bars for legs. The set of tools includes a tape measure, a level and a square, an electric jigsaw, a set of screwdrivers and screwdrivers, a drill, and a grinder.

Assembly work is carried out on a smooth surface. At each stage, it is required to check the perpendicularity of the corners using a square. A typical design involves the assembly of an internal mechanism, a sleeping surface, facade walls, handles, belts for fixing bedding and a mattress.

Do-it-yourself vertical bed

The vertical lift design includes a box, a sleeping surface, lifting device. For the type of fastening, the strength of the walls is important, concrete or brick panels are preferred.

Work begins with the assembly of the frame, the dimensions of which are affected by the size of the sleeping bed. The main components of the box: vertical and horizontal walls, rear panel, thrust shelf and plinth. The depth of the frame is determined taking into account the thickness of the mattress, 32 cm is added to the indicator. For a furniture box, the width of the mattress is important, to which 16 cm is added. The details of the box are fastened with self-tapping screws, the elements located on the facade are glued.

Then they assemble a place to sleep, which consists of sidewalls, a headboard, a slatted base. The mattress is attached to the loops of belts. The box and bed are connected by a lifting mechanism to self-tapping screws. Completed the installation of parts. Shelves are mounted on the sides of the box, cabinets for linen are installed below.

What do you do with old furniture?

Just think, which of the pieces of furniture takes up a huge space in our small-sized dwellings? Of course it's a bed. Many, due to space savings, prefer to purchase folding compact sofas. But none of the comfortable sofa will not replace the feeling of relaxation and comfort that you can experience while relaxing on the bed.

That is why folding beds or, as they are also called, lifting beds, have begun to gain popularity.

What is a lift bed

What is this lifting bed? In essence, this is an ordinary bed, which, when assembled, is placed in an upright position in a closet or chest of drawers. On this moment furniture manufacturers use the most modern materials, thanks to which such a product will last for many years, and a diverse design will help you choose furniture for any interior.

This design is called a transformer, because during the day it is an ordinary wardrobe or chest of drawers with shelves, and at night it is a comfortable bed.

Folding furniture can be of two modifications:

  1. Vertical. It is characterized by a vertical arrangement of a berth. This model beds suitable for people different height and weight (can be either single or double).
  2. Horizontal. Differs in a longitudinal arrangement of a sleeping bed. Most often used for children's models of beds.

Of the features, one more factor can be identified, which is the installation of folding beds along with a mattress specially made to measure. Many manufacturers offer to purchase such furniture to choose from: only a bed separately or a bed with adjacent niches, shelves. Of course, this equipment is somewhat more expensive, but it fits well into the interior.

Pros and cons of lift beds

Positive sides:

  • the main advantage is the huge space savings;
  • the upholstery does not gather dust and does not get dirty;
  • beautiful design solution- economical and elegant.

But there are also certain disadvantages:

  • this, of course, is the high cost of such structures;
  • you will also have to assemble such a bed every day in the morning and lay it out in the evening (in general, this option is not for the lazy);
  • there is no way to move it to some other place.

Of course, to save space, you can try to assemble this design with your own hands.

DIY folding bed: step by step instructions

Consider the main stage of its manufacture:

  1. You need to determine for yourself which bed you need - vertical or horizontal modification.
  2. Designate what you need for work: frame, lifting mechanism, orthopedic mattress. Choose the material from which the bed will be assembled (you can take chipboard, MDF or natural wood). The main thing here is that the chosen material suits you in all respects. technical specifications, that is, it was durable, reliable and environmentally friendly.

Materials that will be needed for the upcoming work:

  • MDF boards 20 mm thick;
  • plywood 10 mm thick;
  • nails;
  • screws;
  • fastening loops.

Tools:

  • yardstick;
  • pencil;
  • emery;
  • drill;
  • screwdrivers: cross and slotted;
  • corner;
  • saw;
  • grinding angle.

After pre-training Let's get straight to assembly.

  1. The first step is to assemble the frame. It can be in the form of a closet or be a separate piece of apartment design. When choosing the material for the box, you must remember that in the future you will have to make efforts to raise it along with the bed. Therefore, the wall on which the structure is installed must be concrete in order to withstand the load placed on it.
  2. We attach the box to the wall, based on the top profile and the axis of rotation of the structure. The thickness of the walls placed vertically, as a rule, is 2.5 centimeters, and horizontally - from 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters. The box consists of two parts (plinth and shelves for emphasis). back wall may not be attached.
  3. All parts are fastened together with self-tapping screws at a distance of 25 centimeters from each other. The frame must be installed on a flat surface.
  4. To make the bed itself, you need to take two side boards, two backs and a headboard. In order to strengthen the mattress on the bed, special belts are used. For all other parts - mounting angles.
  5. The next step in the assembly is to attach the bed to the frame using a lifting mechanism. It is recommended to use ready-made version with gas spring. With it, you can fix this design in any position. It is also a good idea to attach an additional fastener to avoid spontaneous opening of the bed. The safety strap is attached to the top of the frame, which holds the folding part through the loop.

Horizontal design

The assembly mechanism of this product is similar to the vertical model.

There is a bed box and a lifting mechanism. Their parameters will differ, depending on the size of the mattress and the bed itself.

For installation you need:

  • four chipboard parts for side (1080 × 394 × 19 mm) and internal items (1080 × 265 × 19 mm);
  • two wood boards for the bed cover (2020 × 400 × 19 mm) and shelves (1010 × 400 × 19 mm);
  • two wood boards for the bottom of the bed (1982 × 390 × 19 mm) and shelves (972 × 390 × 19 mm);
  • two wood boards for decorating a chest of drawers (980 × 310 × 19 mm);
  • two guides for a bed (2000 mm);
  • cornice (2020 × 992 × 19 mm).

All parts are fastened with self-tapping screws. Such a design is assembled according to the principle of assembling a vertical bed. Side rails 13 cm long are attached along the length of the frame so that the mattress does not move.
