Do-it-yourself adult velomobile. Homemade velomobile from a bicycle - how to make a velomobile with your own hands. How to make a velomobile. Step-by-step instruction

Rusanova Svetlana Anatolievna

This velomobile dad made for his beloved Cinderella. You have often met our daughter in my other publications, where we make various crafts. Now there are a lot of battery-powered cars in stores that need to be charged frequently, and there is no benefit from them, while the velomobile develops well.

This is a worthy analogue of the usual bike, which will allow you to accustom the baby to ride. The velomobile is, as the name implies, a hybrid bike and car. This is a four-wheeled vehicle that is equipped with a comfortable seat and a steering wheel similar to a conventional car.

Such a vehicle cannot reach high speed, there is no need to be afraid that the child will fall out.

The design itself velomobile is that it is difficult to turn it over. It stands steadily on all four wheels, so you don't have to worry. Now dad enjoys walking with daughter and catches admiring glances and shares his experience on how to make such velomobile

Our children love to make crafts with their own hands. Creativity attracts them with the opportunity to show their abilities, to do something interesting.

As part of the book week, an exhibition of homemade books was held in the kindergarten. Since I am not only a teacher, but also a mother of two children who.

I propose to make a gift for our mothers from improvised material. Objectives: To make flowers with your own hands for relatives and friends. Tasks:1.

Dear colleagues! Women's Day is on the doorstep! I want to bring to your attention a master class on making a flower for your gift.

With the onset of summer, I really want to decorate my yard. Various items are used, to which we give a chance of a second existence. So from.

Coming soon on March 8, what to give on this beautiful day? After all, the teacher deserves a big reward for his work! So I decided to make my own.

They can be used as simulators that stimulate the work of muscles and the heart. In addition, such machines are characterized by increased stability, allowing you to transport a certain load without the risk of falling. Consider the features of the unit and the stages of its self-production.

Advantages

Having decided to make a tricycle with your own hands, get acquainted with its advantages, compared with analogues on two wheels:

  1. Anyone can use such transport, regardless of age, financial situation and physical fitness.
  2. Making a model with your own hands does not require special knowledge and a significant investment of capital.
  3. Tricycles, made by hand or bought in a store, are much more stable on the road.
  4. During operation, balance is not required, and this is a very significant factor for the elderly.
  5. The model is equipped with a low frame that facilitates the rider's landing.
  6. The high load capacity of the unit allows it to be used for commercial purposes.

Where to begin?

To create a three-wheeled adult bicycle with your own hands, you will need to purchase a two-wheeled model of domestic or foreign production. Depending on the chosen modification, the aesthetic side of the future vehicle will be determined.

When carrying out work, you should not rely only on the quality of parts. It is necessary to follow the basic rules, namely:

  1. Calculate the height of the model so that the owner is comfortable to sit on it.
  2. Check the stability of the sample so that it does not collapse when the steering wheel is turned sharply.
  3. A new bicycle machine must be equipped with a reliable and alarm bell.
  4. It is better to mount new pedals and wheels, which will avoid slipping and slipping.
  5. The steering wheel and wheels should rotate smoothly, without making extraneous sounds.

Peculiarities

The most significant point when creating tricycles with your own hands is the need to modify the frame. This will require strengthening the metal core using profiled ribs.

One of the simplest and most economical ways to create such a design is the use of a frame from Ural. You will need to cut the rear fork, install a new frame made of duralumin pipes. The second element is mounted below the seat. This will allow you to install a container for the transport of goods. Wheels connected by an axle are installed on both sides, and an asterisk is adjusted in the center.

The dimensions of the frame in the manufacture of a tricycle with your own hands may vary, depending on the creative ideas of the designer. The most reliable and technologically fastest production of the model in question is the use of a rear factory axle with a differential of the UK-65 type.

Bridge installation

The assembly order of this element is not particularly difficult, since it fits almost all classic frames. The work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. First, all standard elements of the rear are dismantled, including the standard chain, wheel, fender, trunk and hand brakes.
  2. Then the UK is installed on the native seat of the rear wheel. In this case, the stops are wound onto the lower tube of the rear of the frame, the axle is threaded into the eyes. All parts are tightened, stops are attracted with clamps.
  3. Next, a new chain is mounted, which is longer than the usual counterpart. To make it, you need to buy two regular chains and fit the element to the desired size. To remove extra links, use the method of grinding the rivet or installing a new lock.
  4. It remains only to adjust the speed switch.

As you can see, tricycles by hand are not such an impossible task.

Brake system

The assembly of equipment can be considered finished. However, you should pay attention to the brakes. The fact is that only disk elements are suitable for such a modification, it is not possible to install a rim option. This node will require certain investments, but it will allow you to protect the cyclist and please you with reliable work. The purchased kit, in addition to the disks themselves, includes hubs, calipers, a brake lever (placed on the steering wheel).

Tools and materials

To make a tricycle with your own hands, you will need to stock up on certain materials. These include:

  • An old two-wheeled donor bicycle.
  • Steel frame.
  • Plywood.
  • Body kit.
  • A pair of wheels, preferably 20 inches in diameter.
  • Square profile blank.
  • Saw "Bulgarian".
  • Hammer.
  • A set of keys and screwdrivers.
  • Drill and hacksaw.

What will you have to spend on?

When creating the modification in question on your own, you will need to take into account the costs of acquiring the necessary parts. In specialized stores, you can easily find the right material. The main part that allows you to transform a two-wheeled bicycle into an analogue with three levels is the UK-6S bridge (or its analogue). The average cost of a part is about 25 thousand rubles. In addition, you will definitely have to buy an additional chain, derailleur, wheels and a set of sprockets.

As a result, the future owner will be able to independently design a model without significant financial costs, as well as choose an individual external design that makes the bike machine original. With proper work, the equipment will please the user not only with comfort, but also with reliability.

Finally

In order not to work in vain on the creation of the unit in question, you will need to make drawings of a tricycle. In this case, it will become much easier to make it with your own hands.

After studying these tips and choosing the right tools and material, you will get a reliable household helper that does not require fuel, is stable, has a good carrying capacity and original design.

As a rule, when going on tours with the whole family, we take tents, kayaks, various sports games with us - in a word, a load that cannot be put on an ordinary bike. A do-it-yourself velomobile does a great job with it; it is easy to operate, maneuverable, safe and fast enough. In addition, the presence of a body with a roof or awning protects from the scorching sun or bad weather.

This is exactly what I made the velomobile "Rainbow". This is a pedal car of a frame structure, with a removable body. There is a trailer for transporting goods. Long-term operation (without a single breakdown) allows us to recommend it for repetition to all enthusiasts of this type of transport.

Technical characteristics of the velomobile "Rainbow":

Length - 1780 mm;

Width - 800 mm;

Height - 1050 mm;

Clearance - 120 mm;

Weight - 29kg;

Number of gears - 9;

Speed - up to 25 km / h;

Number of seats - 1,

Trailer load capacity - up to 100 kg;

Trailer weight - 7 kg;

Trailer speed - up to 20 km/h

Fig.1. The design and main dimensions of the velomobile:

Velomobile frame- T-shaped. For its manufacture, duralumin profiles of the "corner" type with shelves 50X32 mm were used, which were welded with a discontinuous seam into box-shaped beams. The frame is light and very rigid. In its rear part, the feathers of the rear forks are fixed by welding. At the front, a front fork stand is mounted on screws, on which a bottom bracket assembly and two brackets are mounted for fixing the steering cable braids. The ends of the cable are connected with screws to the steering arm. Turns on the velomobile are carried out by moving the control handle back and forth.

All other components and assemblies are installed on the MB screws in place (in accordance with the individual characteristics of the driver).

Velomobile transmission consists of a carriage assembly with pedals, a tensioner, a speed switch, an intermediate shaft and two chain drives. When pedaling, torque is transmitted by a chain to an intermediate shaft located under the front edge of the seat. It has a set of sprockets from the Sputnik bike (preferably the old design, as these sprockets are thicker and wear out less). The intermediate shaft rotates in two bearings No. 200. Gear shifting is done by a handle. To do this, it must be turned forward and moved to the right or left, one or two grooves. In this case, the roller on the right end of the link will change the position of the chain.

A special mechanism is used to tension the chain. It consists of two cheeks, two bearings No. 201, a washer 0.8 mm thick, an axle and an axle-tube of the lower bearing. The latter, after assembling the entire assembly, is rolled on both sides so that the outer race of the bearing rotates freely. In turn, the entire mechanism should easily rotate around the axis, which is fixed on the bracket bracket. The transverse play is eliminated with washers. The tension of the chain is carried out by a spring. There is usually very little chain slack. To reduce it, the tensioning mechanism should occupy a position close to horizontal with the pedals free.

The rear wheels are taken from the Desna bicycle, and the left one has a brake hub. The front wheel of a velomobile is a "dutik" from a scooter.

Velomobile body consists of a wooden slatted frame sheathed with duralumin sheets 0.3 mm thick. The slats are connected on plates made of thin tin coated with epoxy glue. The sheathing is held on Moment glue, and in the most critical places it is nailed, the heads of which are recessed and puttied. Doorways are closed with removable aprons made of transparent film on buttons installed on the inside.

The body is attached to the frame at four points.

The seat of the velomobile is made of pipes from the "clamshell" and covered with a tarpaulin on top. A foam cushion is placed on the tarp. Such a pseudo-anatomical design is very convenient during long hikes, provides a good stop for the development of maximum effort on the pedals.

Since a velomobile is a vehicle, it must be equipped with lighting devices: headlights, parking lights, direction indicators and brake lights. The body color also serves to improve safety: white with red and blue stripes, it draws attention to the velomobile and highlights it on the road.

An important addition to the "Rainbow" is a trailer. It has a wooden frame-base, assembled from slats, on which the bottom and sides are fixed. The joints are made on nails coated with epoxy glue. For rigidity, slats 20X20 mm are skipped along the contour of the sides. The wheel arches are covered with tin covers. Corners - wheel brackets - are fixed on the bottom of the frame on the screws. Wheels - scooter. A welded bracket is installed on the front of the trailer. The trailer is equipped with duplicate direction indicators, dimensions and a brake light.

And about one more feature of the "Rainbow", incorporated in the design, is the possibility of sharing several velomobiles in the "bicycle coupling" mode. This option is convenient during long trips, when everyone works to the best of their ability, and there are no lagging behind or “running away” ahead. Management is in the hands of the leader, everyone rides together; upon arrival at the site, each velomobile becomes autonomous. When operating such “bicycle trains”, one should only take into account that with an increase in the number of “modules”, the amount of skidding on turns increases; when passing them, it is necessary to reduce the speed.

For lovers of outdoor recreation, a tricycle with a comfortable chair will be an excellent means of transportation. You can ride a velomobile comfortably.

This project requires some skills, such as cutting and welding, working with metal parts. It is necessary to have an understanding of how to disassemble and reassemble the bike, and how the gear shifter works.

Necessary materials:

1. Bicycles for parsing;
2. Square pipes with sections (in cm) 3.8x3.8 / 1.3x1.3 / 2.5 x2.5;
3. Steel pipe (2.5cm);
4. Chipboard;
5. Materials for upholstery;
6. Steel sheet;
7. Nuts, bolts and other fasteners;
8. Welding machine, grinder and other tools.

Manufacturing instructions

Step 1. Work with the steering wheel and front wheel
The design of the future vehicle is simple, and also economical. The components of a velomobile are the wheel and the rear frame (bridge). Bicycle pedals and a standard chain drive are attached to the wheel. Excess elements are cut off from the frame. The work uses a grinder. A cut line is marked on the seat pipe - in the shape of the letter V. An incision is made with a grinder, and then the pipe is bent to have a slope in a different direction from the original.

The fold seam is welded. The pipe is also reinforced with a wedge-shaped steel plate. It is cut according to a template from a steel sheet (about 0.5 cm thick). The steering column needs to be sawn off from the seat tube.
A piece is cut off from a square pipe (cut 3.8x3.8 cm). It should be 2.5 cm shorter than the steering column.

One side of the pipe is cut off. It turned out a segment with a recess.

The steering tube must be placed in this channel and welded for strength. The gaps are filled with small pieces of steel.

One part of the steering column is also dismantled. The seatpost is removed from the saddle, and its connections to the column are disconnected.

You need to make sure that the parts of the tube and the seatpost are even, and then connect them. Weld the seam. A short (13 mm) piece of pipe is installed inside the column - for sliding.

Step 2. Working with the frame of the velomobile
The square pipe is cut into pieces (10 cm smaller, 38 cm medium and 69 cm large). The edges of the workpiece are cut at an angle of 120 degrees.

When assembling the frame, it is important to make all corners right. To do this, you need bars. Using the fastening system, the steering column is welded to the frame cap.

Step 3: Work with the front fork
The steering column with the front wheel is assembled (temporarily).

At this stage, the drive sprocket is in the front, while it should be in the back. To make the ratchet work, the sprockets are turned over.

The front fork is attached to the original mounting holes in the frame. A 3.8x5 cm blank is cut out of a piece of steel, in which holes are drilled corresponding to the attachment points. The steel plate is attached to the frame with screws.

A 90-centimeter steel pipe (diameter - 2.5 cm) is being processed. At its end, you need to cut a slot and place the pipe on a thin plate. A hole is drilled in the steering barrel. Its diameter is about 1 cm.

A rod is placed in the steering column. The end of the pipe must be aligned with the recess in the barrel. The bottom of the pipe is welded to the steel plate. After that, the tube is removed, and the mounting loops are welded. Other parts of the plate must be disposed of (cut off).

The lower edge of the pipe must be installed, and a hole 0.9 cm in diameter must be drilled in the upper one. It is necessary that the pipe is connected to the steering rod. A threaded rod is used for fastening.

Step 4. Working with the frame
From equal parts of a square pipe (3.8x3.8 cm), the rear frame of the velomobile is welded. Two pieces 76.2 cm long are welded to four pieces 53 cm long. It turns out a square with two jumpers. Four pieces (5x10 cm) are cut from the steel plate (its thickness is 0.47 cm). Holes are drilled in all segments, which should fit in diameter to the axes. On each plate, using a grinder, you need to cut recesses - with a hole diameter, but wider at the edges.

Using the wheel as a guide, the plates are welded to the pipes. The tricycle is placed on the wheels.

Step 5. Installing the brakes
The front brake caliper is cut off from the front fork of the bicycle.

Two pieces are cut from the plate (these are mounting plates). Equal holes are drilled in the mounting plates. All elements are fastened with a brake bracket. When the brakes are installed, the plates are welded to the front fork.

Brakes and derailleur require control (cable). To make it, you will need a long nut (10-24x1.9 cm), which you need to clamp and drill one side. The drill should not go completely into the nut, only 1.27 cm. The nut is cut along the entire surface with a grinder.

Step 6: Shift gears
In order for the switch to work correctly, it is installed upside down on the velomobile. The set point moves forward 5.7 cm and 0.15 cm up (than the original harness). The bracket is made from two pieces of steel plate.

To mount the gears, holes with a larger and smaller diameter must be drilled on the axle. Fasteners are inserted into the smaller one - this is necessary so that the gear selector does not slip out of a given position. A bracket is installed on the axis and connected to the switch.

Step 7 Work on the bike seat
The frame is made of sq. pipe, the diameter of which is 2.5 cm. Three separate sections need to be welded to make it easier to adjust the position of the seat.

Driving your own car is the dream of every child. He will be especially happy that his dad made a velomobile for him with his own hands. Technology, master class, photos on how to make a children's velomobile, see below.

This car is easier to drive than a bicycle, it is designed for kids from 4 to 8 years old.

This car design uses used parts (pedals and gear of a bicycle, wheels from a baby carriage), as well as small home-made wooden knots, aluminum tires 30 x 1 mm and 50 x 2 mm and aluminum pipes from ⌀ 10 mm.

Assembly of the chassis and drive of the car

In our example, the chassis is universal, so that it is possible to apply different bodies. It consists of five sleepers, connecting two rails across, all of wooden beams. An asterisk with pedals is fixed on the central beam.

Two short beams are bolted to the side, under the three crossbars in the hull. They have four bearings for the rear axle. Front, front axle, for steering, screwed onto the TRCC bolt. Four bearings are also installed to hold the axles of the front wheels. Three slats are bolted to the side members to form the seats.

Velomobile body

All elements are planed pine logs and plywood, assembled with screws and vinyl glue. After assembling the body, decorative elements from wood and aluminum lining are glued on the outside. After painting, the body is attached directly to the frame.

The design of the main nodes

To transmit rotation from the steering wheel, we decided to use a cord. The steering column, winding the cord will control the steering beam. We wind two turns on the column, then through the eyes on the left and right sides we fix the cord to the edges of the beam with screws.

The gear ratio of the leading sprocket to the driven 2:1. Stars, pedals and chains taken from a children's bicycle. The wheels are taken from an old stroller. They are attached using retaining rings, which makes it possible to quickly replace in case of a sudden breakdown.

DIY children's car

Assembling the car frame

1. Hacksaw mode bike frame. We retreat 7 cm from the center towards the saddle and 10 cm towards the attachment of the shield.
2 . After sawing off the entire block with the sprocket and pedals, drill the beam to the specified angle of the seat tube. It is necessary to mark the part, so it will be seen at what angle to drill.

3 . The mount for the shields allows you to thread a bolt with a diameter of 8 mm and fasten it to a wooden beam.
4 . We collect the frame of the car. Wooden parts are assembled using screws ⌀ 4 x 40 mm. The wheel axles of the stroller are simply forcibly installed.

5 . The front axle beam is fastened with a ⌀10 mm bolt, using large washers and lubricated with grease. Behind, we put everything on the bearing, not forgetting the chain.

6 . The drive of the drive wheels depends on the type of sprocket you find. Pipes (preferably), choose from chrome-plated or galvanized steel.
7 . Clamp the rear sprocket on the threaded rod between two wide washers and nuts. Don't forget to center the star.
8 . Several turns of electrical tape ensure a good seal of grease on the threaded rod and tube. The clamp will hold firmly during bearing mounting.

We collect the body of a children's car

9 . Align both sprockets so that the chain is free of kinks. Tighten the nuts so that there is free play.
10 . We create chain and sprocket protection.
11 . Using clamps, expose the sidewalls of the body, secure with self-tapping screws. Cut the side pieces to size.

12 . Screw the instrument panel and secure the steering column. Adjust the steering wheel. Get a comfortable back. Glue and screw the back and front covers.

13 . The instrument panel "Sport" coupe is equipped with switches and a digital clock. Also, you need to install a warning sound signal. The backrest folds down, provides access to the trunk, you can store a tool box.
14 . Aluminum elements are added for decoration: the strips are glued and screwed on the sides to mimic the molding and grille.

15 . Other models can be made on the basis of one frame, for example, the “retro” version. The body is painted dark red metallic and decorated with a spare wheel.
16 . The windshield is cut out of plexiglass (thickness 4 mm) and fastened with two rivet brackets.

17 . The bumper, fenders and footrests in this version are made of aluminum, as it is easy to bend it. Reflective plates act as rear lights.
