Adjustment of plastic balcony door fittings. Adjustment of plastic windows and doors - we carry out the adjustment before the winter season. Video: detailed instructions from an expert on pvc windows and doors

Experience shows that it is more practical to install plastic doors on a balcony or loggia. Firstly, it is cheap, and secondly, they perfectly retain heat, do not allow a draft or moisture to enter the room.

Initially, when installing plastic doors, the craftsmen adjust them, but after a while, there may be difficulties with their closing or opening. In this case, there are two options for resolving the problem - call the master, or adjust the balcony door yourself.

First, let's consider what problems may arise during operation:

    • The door is down and hits the threshold;

All due to the load of the canvas with glass on the hinges, from which sagging occurs.

    • The door does not close or does not close well in the middle of the leaf;

The web can move to the free edge of the box due to temperature or high constant humidity.

    • The canvas does not close tightly, and cold air or a draft enters the room from the door;

May occur during operation when the control mechanism looses slightly.

    • The handle is loose;

The handle begins to dangle due to frequent use and this is a common practice for using a plastic door.

How to troubleshoot yourself:

1. Sagging of the canvas on the threshold

We start the adjustment from the upper hinge, for this the door must be opened. At the very top of the hinge there is a hexagon or an asterisk screw (they are different in different models). We select a suitable key and make several turns with the key clockwise. Do not overdo it, it is better to twist it once more after checking.

We close the door and see if we have eliminated the problem or not.

If, after the work done, the sash touches the threshold, then it is necessary to look at the lower hinge. If there is a protective cap on the hinge, it must be removed. We are looking for the same hexagon or asterisk, it will also be located at the top of the loop. We make several turns with the key clockwise. We check that this procedure should solve the problem completely.

2. The leaf touches the door frame in the middle

This nuance can be solved by tightening the bolt on the canopy. We start everything from the lower canopy, only this time we are looking for a bolt on the side. We select the key and make several turns back clockwise. This procedure will pull the canvas up to the canopy and automatically move it away from the free edge of the box.

If, after such manipulations, the door still rubs against the box, then we carry out all of the above with the upper canopy.

Do not be lazy, check several times to see if everything suits you, if there are any shortcomings, then it is better to eliminate them right away.

3. The cracks between the box and the canvas, moisture or cold penetrate into the room. How to adjust a plastic balcony door to hold down:

This disadvantage can also be solved at home on your own. We open the door and look for pins (or eccentrics) from the free side edge. There are often three of them: top, middle and bottom.

The pins or eccentrics must be turned slightly towards the sealing gum with a screwdriver or pliers. After each change in the position of the eccentrics, you need to check the door hold-down. This procedure must be carried out with all three eccentrics.

This may take some time, because the work is delicate and meticulous. On the hinge side, you also need to check the pressure. We close the door and in the awnings above and below we are looking for a bolt, and you need to tighten it a little.

You can check if everything worked out using an ordinary sheet of paper. We open the door and insert a sheet of paper into the opening, avoiding the locking mechanisms. We close the door and try to pull out the paper, while the sheet should be pulled out with difficulty. If it passes freely, you should repeat the procedure.

4. Adjusting the door handle

If the handle is loose, then you can fix it well with a screwdriver. We select the required tool size and tighten the bolts.

How to prevent problems with a plastic door on the balcony.

So that the door does not have to be adjusted too often, you can stock up on a few simple devices:

Microlift for a plastic door

A microlift is used for heavy plastic doors equipped with double-glazed windows with thick glass. This system allows the door not to sag on the threshold. A microlift is a plate that is attached to the free end of the door leaf or in the form of a roller at the bottom of the door;

Door stop

This mechanism is used to adjust the opening width of the doorway. The stopper can be mounted both at the bottom and at the top of the web. The limiter not only reduces the possibility of the canvas sagging on the threshold, but also protects the canvas itself from impacts on the slopes and furniture elements.

Advice: if the door starts to close poorly, there is a draft, or there are other minor problems, they should be corrected immediately. It is easier to immediately eliminate a small flaw, it is not only easier, but also cheaper. Don't let the little things become big breakdowns.

I wish you good health.

Many of us sometimes hear several times a day in public transport the phrase "be careful, the doors open", but few people pay attention to the specific word - "carefully". Meanwhile, the main emphasis in the phrase is on the given word.

Each person, passing through a doorway into some unfamiliar room, has the right to assume that the door will unexpectedly show its character and really play the role of the element it should be - an element of the building envelope.

Sometimes, of course, the door does not allow you to enter the room, because it is simply closed. But there are times when door leaf comes into conflict with the door frame, or, simply put, the door "seizes". To correct this defect, in some cases it is even necessary to replace damaged doors, and in some it is enough to simply adjust them.

Today we'll talk about how to adjust a plastic door.

Why adjust a PVC door

Some time ago, answering your questions, I talked about how to adjust the opening sash in plastic windows. Apparently, you have completely figured out the windows, and now new questions have already begun to arrive about how you can bring misaligned plastic doors into working order.

Discussion of the topic of adjusting PVC profile doors will take a little longer than window adjustments, because door hinged systems have a greater variety than window sash fixings. In addition, the door structure is additionally equipped with sophisticated locking fittings and a latch lock embedded in the profile.

Easier than ever to adjust the hinged and locking system plastic doors in the event that the warranty period indicated by the manufacturer or installer is still valid door structure... Calling the master, complaining to him about the malfunction that has arisen and waiting until he brings everything to perfect condition is a completely simple task.

We will look at another frequently occurring plot in which two actors- you and a misaligned PVC door.

Types of plastic doors

Attentive consumers have certainly noticed that all doors are divided into two types: entrance and interior.

But this is not the only difference between door designs.

Additionally, entrance door blocks are also divided by the type of opening - automatic and mechanical.

Automatic entrance doors can be:

  • sliding single-leaf or double-leaf, with opening to the left, right, behind a wall or behind a fixed leaf;
  • carousel, with three or four leaves with different types drive;
  • swing doors with one or two leaves.

Interior doors, in turn, are divided into solid and transparent (French window). A separate place among the interior doors is occupied by doors installed on the way out of the room to the balcony or loggia.

This type of door structure differs from the others in that it is not installed by itself, but together with a part of the window block, and one of its sides is fixed not in the doorway, but in the window frame.

Another significant difference between plastic balcony doors and other door structures is that their curtains are similar to those used for fastening window sashes.

Previously, all balcony doors (first wooden, and then plastic) were made according to one pattern: the lower half was blank, the upper half was filled with glass.

Recently, when people increasingly began to use balconies and loggias not as storage rooms, but as a cozy one, with good repair a place to rest, then the balcony doors began to be made like French windows, that is, they were completely glazed.

The door, in which the entire canvas is glazed with a solid glass unit, weighs no less than its metal prototype, and at the same time is framed by a PVC profile. This means that such a design must have special reinforced fittings.

Immediately after installing the balcony door, it must meet the following requirements:

  • the canvas around the entire perimeter should be tightly pressed against the door frame;
  • in the half-open position, the door leaf must be in a static state, that is, it must not be arbitrarily closed or opened;
  • the canvas should not sag and cling to the profile or fittings for the striking plates installed on the box;
  • the locking handle must move around its axis freely, without visible resistance.

If the installers did their best and did everything in accordance with the established rules, then going out to the balcony will not soon be able to give you certain difficulties, which can be caused by a skewed door leaf.

But if the slightest signs of malfunction appeared in the operation of the balcony door, then the "disease" should not be started, since its consequences will only worsen.

You should promptly seek help from a specialist or correct the defect that has appeared on your own.

Plastic door adjustment technology in the video:

Adjusting balcony door fittings

If you carefully read my articles, then you have already met with recommendations for adjusting window sashes. The principle of their adjustment does not differ from the same process for the balcony door, since the fastening accessories in both cases are absolutely the same.

There is only one small addition to the design of the balcony door. It is a hook at the end of the door leaf on the side where the load-bearing curtains are fixed. Technical purpose of this element is to help the rather long side profile not to bend when the sash is closed, but to press the whole plane tightly against the frame.

This hook, as well as all other points of the locking mechanism, consists of a striker fixed to the frame and a movable pin installed at the ends of the sash.

The adjustment of the clamping force on the additional hook is performed in the same way as at other points: by turning the trunnion around its axis using a hexagon or a special spanner wrench (the choice of tool depends on design features the pivot itself).

In order to adjust the position of the sash, after removing the plastic plug from the lower pin curtain, turn the adjusting screw with a hex key inserted into the cylinder fixed to the sash. Turning clockwise will raise the door leaf. Turning the hexagon counterclockwise will lower the sash.

It is possible to move the bottom of the sash to the right and to the left by turning the adjustment located in the lower part of the curtain fixed to the door frame with a hexagon.

To change the position of the upper part of the sash to the left and to the right, you need to twist the fittings, which are part of the fastening of the frame to the upper curtain. The adjustment point is located in the horizontal plane of the upper edge of the sash, next to the upper curtain.

Pay attention to one detail: the adjusting screw, responsible for the movement of the bottom of the sash to the right and left, has access from both sides. If the slope does not come close to the curtain in which the adjustment is located, then the hexagon can be inserted into the screw from the side of the slope and try to lift the door when it is in the closed position.

I strongly recommend not to do this, because the door may press too tightly against the frame, and if you turn the screw using excessive force, you can easily break the thread on it, which will lead to the complete failure of the lower support curtain.

How to detect defects

For fans of various kinds of test events when checking the conducted construction works there is one trick that is aimed at checking the quality of the vestibule door frame to the door leaf in PVC profile construction. It consists in the fact that when the sash is ajar, a piece of paper should be placed on the frame under it, then tightly close the sash by moving the locking handle to the "closed" position.

A similar operation should be carried out by applying a sheet along the entire pressure contour.

If the effort with which the sheet is pulled out in different places turns out to be different, which means that the door begins to slowly surrender the position of a well-adjusted product. Therefore, you need to prepare for the fact that soon you will have to perform a number of measures to return it to a properly working state.

Another way to detect pre-alarm door leaf operation is when closed door outline the sash around the perimeter with a simple pencil. If, after opening the door, you see that the pattern does not exactly match the doorway geometrically, then this will also indicate that there are some deviations in the adjustment.

A similar operation should be carried out even when the door has already begun to touch the box. The figure will show how much the door has changed its standard position, and in which direction the adjusting screws should be turned to return it to its original position.

What tools are used to regulate plastic doors

Before proceeding with the adjustment of the mechanism that holds and presses the door leaf to the door frame, you need to prepare a simple set of construction tools:

  • screwdrivers (pair different sizes) of two types - cruciform and flat;
  • set of hexagons.

The kit for these subjects requires knowledge that I will now share with you.

I earnestly ask you: without reading and viewing the necessary information, do not start adjusting the door leaf.

The trial and error method is not suitable in this case, because, as a rule, it leads to breakage of the fittings. Replacing a damaged element is not a quick and difficult task, because only a complete analogue of a broken part can be suitable for this replacement.

How to adjust a PVC door

PVC-profile doors are an indispensable attribute of most public and commercial establishments. In many country houses their owners use plastic glazed doors to partition off hallways and exits from the premises to the terrace or to the winter garden.

In private houses, there is usually no increased load on plastic entrance doors (unless Small child sometimes rolls on them, holding on to the sash handles).

But in those places where crowds of people are constantly moving, and even some of them, leaving the room, slam the door with displeasure, any door structures installed on this busy path, it’s not sweet.

Exactly because of this reason entrance plastic doors are structurally different from interior and balcony doors made of PVC. They are more durable and have better heat and sound insulation.

PVC entrance doors serve not only as a building envelope designed to provide entry and exit from the premises.

Their additional purpose is to prevent the spread of fire.

For this, the surface of the plastic is covered with a special non-flammable polyvinyl chloride film. providing an increased fire safety class.

Of course, the film that provides protection in case of fire is very good, but even better if during the same fire the door leaf does not jam, it will not sag and will allow everyone to quickly and easily leave the room. And this is possible only if the door curtains and the locking mechanism are correctly adjusted and operate normally.

See the video for the process of adjusting the pressure of the Alutex overhead hinges:

Adjustment of overhead curtains

The required number of door curtains connecting the frame with the leaf is calculated for each structure individually and depends mainly on the weight of the door leaf.

If there is no double-glazed window in the sash structure, and its leaf is covered only with a light sandwich panel, then two curtains are enough to fix such a sash.

But, usually, on the entrance plastic door, which has glazing, there can be from three to four curtains, each of which has three types of adjustment.

It is important to know that if you try to change the position of the door leaf by twisting the adjustments of only one curtain, then this can cause a point curvature of the profile (that is, it will bend only in the area where the adjustable curtain is attached).

It is such an illiterate adjustment that subsequently causes creaks, which appear at the point of attachment of the curtains.

Some "experts" advise, in the event of squeaks, to lubricate the hinges by pouring machine oil into them. Yes, maybe for some time the lubricant will be able to reduce extraneous noise when opening the door, but over time they will still appear again.

Responsibly I can declare that a properly adjusted door without any lubrication should not make any sounds when slammed, except, perhaps, a soft slap.

For the algorithm for adjusting the upper hinge of a plastic balcony door, see the video:

How to raise the door leaf

I want to make a reservation right away - there are some constructive different models door curtains. How to regulate each specific model needs to be considered separately, applying an individual approach. Honestly, I had to deal with such samples before that, even with some experience, it was not immediately possible to guess which of the adjusting screws was installed in which place.

But for the last five years, as there are no new samples - apparently, the designers who create more and more details for attaching the sash to the frame have run out of imagination, or have finally found the best option for the design of the door curtain.

Below we will look at how to regulate the most common type of door curtain.

If it becomes necessary to change the position of the door leaf by lifting it up a few millimeters, you need to do the following:

  • find the place where the adjusting screws are installed on all curtains. As a rule, this place is located at the bottom end of the curtain's cylindrical part;
  • select a wrench of the required size from a set of hexagons;
  • move the sash from the “closed” position to the “half-open” position;
  • insert the key into the upper curtain and turn it half a turn or a full turn, if necessary;
  • exactly the same turning radius as the hexagon was turned when adjusting the first curtain, it is necessary to turn the adjusting screws of the remaining curtains;
  • check the quality of the adjustment by closing the door;
  • if the defect has not disappeared, and the door must be additionally raised, then all the adjusting steps must be repeated sequentially.

With a large door leaf weight, the load on the first adjusting screw can be lightened, onto which, in fact, the weight of the entire lifted sash passes.

To do this, you can build a kind of lever under the sash and, by slightly pressing on it, help the adjusting screw to raise the heavy sash.

You can also gradually raise the sash, making small movements with a hexagon, adjusting each curtain in turn.

How to press the sash of a plastic door to the door frame

In contrast to the balcony door, where pressing to the frame occurs due to the rotation of the eccentrics installed at the ends of the frame, a different principle of adjustment is laid in the entrance plastic door.

The difference between both methods of closing is that in front door fixation of the door leaf occurs due to the latch located in the body of the lock or separately installed at the end of the door. Whereas in the balcony door, fixing and fine-tuning of the clamping mechanism occurs by turning the locking handle, which pushes the trunnions located at the ends of the sash into the hook with the counter strips mounted on the frame.

Let me remind you that we are considering one of several, the most common option for the design of a door curtain.

Adjustment of the sash pressure of the entrance plastic door from the side where the curtains are installed should be carried out according to the following scheme:

  • remove decorative plugs from the upper cylindrical part of all curtains. Please note: sometimes the manufacturer has a hint on the plug itself - in which direction you need to turn the screw so that the sash comes closer or moves farther from the box;
  • select the hex wrench required for the diameter;
  • insert it from above into the lower or upper (there is no fundamental difference) adjusting screw;
  • gradually, little by little (no more than 10 0), twisting the key, achieve the desired pressure. You can check the strength of the prim using a piece of paper (see above).

Many "homemade products", not understanding the principle of operation of this adjustment, begin to turn the hexagon like the steering wheel of a ship, hoping to find the ideal point by trial and error. Sometimes this leads to the fact that then fix the wrapping and return the door to the right channel operation will be difficult even for a real specialist.

Therefore, before adjusting this unit, you should first familiarize yourself with its device.

On the lower curtain there is an oval-shaped adjusting screw protruding upward, onto which, when the curtain is connected to the box, a part of the curtain is put on, fixed to the sash.

In the upper cylindrical part of each curtain there is an oval hole, into which an adjusting screw is inserted. Their connection is a conventional eccentric, which, when turned by 90 0, changes the position of the sash clamp.

Having adjusted the pressure on the side of the door leaf, on which the curtains are located, you should proceed to adjusting the leaf from the side of the door handle.

Plastic entrance doors are equipped with a regular latch or a latch built into the lock. The latch striker, installed on the frame, is usually equipped with a sliding insert.

To strengthen the clamping of the door leaf, unscrew the two screws securing the sliding insert and move it closer to the seal installed on the frame.

Having firmly fixed the insert in a new place, check the quality of the sash and frame adhesion by performing a test using a paper sheet (see above).

Various options for adjusting doors to the balcony in the video:

How to change the slope of the door leaf

Adjusting the inclination of the door leaf relative to the plane of the door frame in different versions the curtains are carried out using various methods.

Let me remind you that we are considering the most popular design option for door curtains. In this case, the most difficult moment is to remove the curtain cover located on the door leaf - it is under it that the adjusting screw is located.

To gain access to the screw, open the sash completely and find a locking bolt in the inside of the curtain holding the curtain cover. Having selected the required hexagon diameter, you should completely unscrew the stopper and remove the cover by sliding it along the slide towards the door handle.

After the cover is removed, you will immediately see the adjusting screw, twisting which you will visually notice how the blade changes its position relative to the frame.

I remind you again that turn only one screw several turns at once - it is impossible in any case... This can result in shearing of the thread on the screw.

The sash should be tilted by gradually tightening each screw by the required number of turns.

What to do to make plastic doors less likely to need adjustment

The long-term operation of the fittings holding the plastic door depends, first of all, on the measurer, which performed all the necessary dimensions and calculated the geometric parameters of the new door.

If at this stage a mistake was made, and the tolerance between the doorway and finished product exceeded the permissible norm of 10-20mm, then the installers, of course, will install the door, but its fastening to the wall will not be strong enough.

This defect cannot be corrected by installing an additional number of anchors, since the anchor simply fixes the position of the door frame, and polyurethane foam, which plays the role of the main sealant, loses this quality at a rate directly proportional to the increase in the thickness of the layer between the opening and the door frame.

Therefore, in the event that the door is more than a couple of centimeters smaller than the opening, when the door leaf slams, the dynamic load will be transmitted each time to the box, which, due to its unstable position, will loosen the fittings.

The next reason for the premature failure of door fittings can be created by designers who calculate the number of curtains for a specific sample.

According to the technology, the number of curtains depends on the weight of the door leaf. In case of an error in the calculations, for example, after installing three attachment points instead of the required four, and when the door is operating under conditions of increased load, for example, at the entrance to a store, one should expect a quick failure of not only the adjustment, but also the fastening of the curtains themselves.

The next reason for the frequent adjustment of the door leaf can be the intensive work of the door structure. In this case, it is possible and even necessary to equip the door leaf with a closer.

Of course, these details sticking out above the sash do not add additional aesthetic appeal to the door structure, but the fact that they are very convenient and allow you to extend the trouble-free operation of the door is beyond doubt.

Quite often, we ourselves are the cause of a loose door system. For example, when in a double swing door we forget to close one of the latches that fix the inoperative part of the door leaf from below and from above.

Features of plastic entrance doors

For the production of a PVC entrance door, a particularly strong profile, special steel reinforcement is used. Therefore from three types plastic doors (balcony, interior and entrance), the last one is the most difficult, and for its normal functioning, reinforced fittings and special, more reliable types of door handles and special door closers are used.

In order for the front door to serve as a reliable barrier to noise and cold, a double sealing circuit is used in its design, which ensures that such a door block performs all its functional duties.

All entrance doors have one common feature- the absence of the lower part of the protruding frame, such as a window block.

If this lower section remained at the door frame, then it would protrude above the floor surface and would certainly interfere with people passing by. Therefore, the lower threshold of the entrance door is made flat, not rising above the floor surface.

In order not to leave this section of the door structure unprotected from the passage of cold air and sound waves, some door leaves are equipped with magnetic thresholds.

This system is designed in such a way that two magnetic bars, recessed into the level with a threshold, are magnetized to a metal strip attached to the bottom end of the door leaf when the door is closed. When the door is opened, the magnets are lowered into the threshold without interfering with the passage.

It must be borne in mind that this part, which is important for heat and sound insulation, can only work with a precisely adjusted adjustment of the door leaf, when it is located exactly above the magnets and at the height required for their operation.

One of the main functions of an entrance door (it does not matter if it is made of plastic or other material) is good protection premises from unwanted intrusion. Reliable performance of this function implies the use of door lock.

Excellent burglar resistance of a plastic entrance door is achieved by attaching load-bearing elements, locking devices in the steel reinforcement of the profile.

Existing locks for installation in plastic doors are divided into:

  • single-point which have one locking point located approximately in the middle of the height of the door structure;
  • multi-point, they are used for two- or three-point contact of the leaf locking mechanism with the door frame. Several points of contact along the entire height of the frame provide increased reliability and high-quality clamping of the sash to the frame.

Even an insignificant change in the position of the sash can prevent the multi-locking mechanism from performing its functions, which is why it is so important that all the supporting fittings installed on the door structure are in working order.

The door closer is an obligatory element of the fittings

Strong blows of the door leaf against the frame and sharp jerks for the door handle seriously affect the operation of the door structure and have a significant effect on reducing the frequency of actions for adjusting the door fittings.

The installation of a door closer will help to avoid the premature onset of the consequences of too active work of a plastic entrance door.

Smoothly closing the door leaf and not allowing the sash to be pulled too sharply is the main function of this mechanical device. In addition to combating premature wear of the fittings, one of the closer functions is to maintain the indoor climate.

The adjustment of the smoothness of the movement of the pressing force of the sash to the frame is carried out both immediately during the installation of the device, and periodically - during its operation.

The frequency of maintenance depends on the season - with the onset of cold weather, the oil in the closer becomes more viscous, and the work will deteriorate significantly if it is not adjusted in time.

The technical characteristics of each model of the closer must indicate the lower temperature threshold at which the device is subject to additional adjustment.

If there is no need for non-routine repairs, then the frequency of adjusting the plastic door - once a year, whereas installed on this door the closer should be adjusted at least twice a year. The frequency of adjustment also depends on the weight of the door leaf and how often it is used.

Additional functions appear for those closers that are equipped with additional internal valves. Such devices can fix the door at a certain point when it is in the open position, and can also "slam" the sash to the frame for better adhesion or actuation of the latch.

There are universal models of door closers that can be installed both on the side of the door into which the sash opens, and on the opposite part of it. It is undesirable to install the device from the street side, because there it will be most exposed to the negative temperature changes that affect it.

For the capabilities of a door closer for a plastic door, see the video:

Closer adjustment

Before adjusting the closer, you should check whether the hardware of the door structure itself needs adjustment. To do this, disconnect the device lever from the sash and check if there is any sagging or damage to the curtains.

In the mechanism standard door closer there are two valves that can be adjusted.

The first is responsible for changing the speed of self-closing of the door leaf. To increase or decrease the speed, turn the screw installed on side end devices. If you turn it counterclockwise, the closing speed of the sash increases, if in the course, it decreases.

Turn the adjusting screw very carefully and no more than one or two turns, otherwise the tightness of the body may be compromised, which will lead to leakage of the oil filler.

The second adjusting screw is installed in the valve, which is responsible for the movement of the leaf before the very moment of slamming.

This valve should be adjusted when the leaf is perpendicular to the door frame. Turning the screw clockwise increases the time until the door leaf is quickly brought to the frame.

There is a special nut in the articulation of the lever mechanism, which, when turned clockwise, increases the opening angle of the door leaf.

If it becomes necessary to leave the doorway open, then there is no need to put various objects under the corner of the sash that fix its position - such actions will inevitably lead to breakage of the door hardware.

Some of the door closers are supplied with special function locking the open sash in the right position... To do this, you just need to tighten the locking element installed on the device itself.

The sash locking function can be configured for automatic operation. Then, when opening to the point set in the closer setting, the door will close according to all the rules, and after passing the mark, the door will automatically lock in the desired position.

It is important to keep in mind that when installing the door closer on a plastic door, you should turn the fastening screws not only through the PVC coating, but also through the steel profile reinforcing the entire structure installed under it. Only in this case the closer will be securely fixed and will withstand all loads during operation.

In order for the device to serve as long as possible, you should not help it by applying force when closing the door. If there is no special device that fixes the open position of the sash, then the lever mechanism should be disconnected in cases where it is necessary to long time leave the sash open.

The partial limiting function of the closer can be duplicated by installing a conventional bumper on the floor.

But you should know that this operation also takes place under certain conditions.

The bumper should be installed in such a way that the place of its contact with the door leaf is closer to the outer edge of the opening leaf. If the bumper is installed close to the door curtains, then the load on them will be higher than the permissible one, because in this case the principle of a lever will begin to operate, breaking the curtains out of the mountings.

When to adjust hardware

Seek help from specialists or try to independently (in accordance with the recommendations of the same specialists) adjust the door hardware when:

  • it became visually noticeable, or a strong draft appeared in the junction- this indicates that the sash does not fit tightly to the door frame. You can verify the correctness of your suspicions with the help of a paper sheet, which should be alternately placed along the entire contour of the abutment and removed with the door closed, determining in different places the difference in the pressure of the sash and frame connection;
  • sash sagging appears. The first symptoms of this malfunction: when opening or closing, the canvas clings to the box, the door latch does not fall into the lock striker, or the lock itself does not close well;
  • the functioning of the door closer has changed. In this case, it is not necessary that this problem happened because of the door hardware, perhaps the misaligned closer itself is to blame. But it is imperative to find out the real reason.

Once a year, even with trouble-free operation of the door leaf, for preventive purposes, test measures should be carried out to prevent the occurrence of serious malfunctions in the operation of the door structure.

Tips for adjusting the balcony door in the video:

Today, many, in search of comfort and warmth for their home, prefer to replace wooden windows and doors with plastic ones. Such structures have many advantages, but there is also a certain feature: after a while, PVC products require adjustment. If you feel that doors or windows begin to close less tightly or require serious effort for this, then the time has come. If the warranty period has not yet come to an end, the easiest way is to call a wizard who will do everything quickly and free of charge. Otherwise, you should not panic either: adjustment plastic windows and doors on their own - the task is quite feasible.

When is adjustment required?

An important point: windows and PVC doors have a similar mechanism (except that the former allow one more degree of opening), therefore, in what follows, all instructions will be given using the example of windows. In the case of balcony doors, the work is carried out identically.

You can understand that urgent and urgent adjustment is required by the following signs:

  • the window sash clings to the frame;
  • opening-closing is associated with significant effort;
  • handles are loose or turn too tight;
  • windows allow outside air to pass through even when closed.
If the window does not open or close properly, it means that it is necessary to adjust its mechanisms.

These signs indicate that the window is in an extremely neglected condition, so it is possible that some parts may require serious repair or replacement. In order not to bring the matter to such an outcome, preventive measures can be taken.

You can determine if they are needed as follows:

  1. Open a door or window slightly. If, in the absence of a draft, the doors close or open on their own, then repair and adjustment is required.
  2. Circle the entire sash in the closed state along the contour, and then open it. Compare the lines and edges of the window opening. Ideally, they should be parallel. It is recommended to eliminate even the smallest misalignment.
  3. Take a piece of paper or newspaper. Then close the window so that the sheet is between the sash and the frame. Now, if you can pull it out without effort, then a small adjustment will be required. Ideally, the efforts to remove the paper should be the same wherever the sheet is.

Adjusting modes according to the season allows you to customize the work window mechanisms most in the best way

Finally, the adjustment of plastic windows is carried out in the off-season: they try to increase the pressure by winter, and to loosen it by the summer. This adjustment helps to avoid rapid wear of individual parts of the closing mechanism..

Tool and basic adjustment mechanisms

For work, you will need to prepare the following tool in advance:

  • pliers;
  • screwdriwer set;
  • PVC gaskets;
  • a set of hex keys and "stars";
  • roulette.

The main bolts used to adjust the windows and doors are shown in the figure. Some will require you to remove the decorative caps to access.

Handle adjustment

First, consider the malfunctions associated with the handle (window or door - there is no fundamental difference here), and how to eliminate them.

Repairing a loose handle is one of the simplest. There is a special decorative plug under the handle. It is enough to pull it slightly towards you and turn it a quarter of a turn. This should be done with your hands, as otherwise you can scratch the material. There are a couple of bolts hidden under the plug that need to be tightened a little.

The screws holding the handle are located under the decorative cover

A complete replacement of the handle is carried out in the same way: we unscrew the bolts under the plug, carefully remove the handle and insert a serviceable one in its place. It remains to screw the fasteners.

Most often, the problem of a sticking handle is solved by banal lubrication of the mechanism... It is produced as follows: first, the handle is removed, after which the mechanism is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. It remains to lubricate it. The best option there will be a can of WD-40 liquid with a convenient tube that will help you reach all the difficult places.

If the handle turns noticeably tight, the pressure mechanism should be adjusted. For this, there are special pins from the end. This adjustment of plastic windows and doors will be described in more detail below.

Adjusting the downforce of windows and doors

Rubber used for insulation and sealing can lose bulk over time. As a result, gaps are formed, due to which not only heat suffers, but also noise insulation. A similar problem arises from deformation caused by temperature changes in winter and summer. Often, the seal is changed for the solution, but in fact, the design of the fittings itself allows you to eliminate gaps without any replacement.

The key elements are small cylinders that are located on the side of a window or balcony door in the slots of the caps. They are called pins or eccentrics. Directly opposite them in the frame there is a mechanism for which they hook. To adjust the pressing force, it is necessary to adjust either the trunnions or the clamping mechanism - it all depends on the model of the fittings.

Pins or eccentrics are responsible for the degree of sash pressing against the frame and may vary depending on the manufacturer.

To prevent the sash from pressing so hard, the elongated part of the eccentric rotates to the side outer surface, for strengthening - towards the inner. The adjustment method varies from the manufacturer of the fittings, but the principle is general: there is a special slot on the trunnion for a key or a screwdriver. In some cases, to turn, you will need to slightly pull the trunnions towards you using pliers. You need to act very carefully - there is a risk of damage to the mechanism.

In some cases, the cylinders themselves cannot be adjusted - in this case, it remains to adjust the position of the counterpart. In such fittings, it is attached with a pair of bolts. It is necessary to loosen them a little and then move the hook in the right direction.

Adjusting awnings

The following applies exclusively to windows with a fanlight system (it is she who helps to open the window for a little ventilation). Such a system is most often not installed on the door.

Before proceeding with the setup, you will need to remove the decorative trim on the mount. There are several bolts on the mount itself - they are used to set the position of the sash in relation to the frame. First, you should pay attention to the bolt, which is located perpendicular to the plane of the glass unit. The structure is adjusted when the windows are closed. Adjustment is made with a hex key - it rotates left-right to achieve the desired location.

Adjustment of the upper canopies is carried out by tightening the bolts with the scissors system

To attach the upper part of this structure, not ordinary hinges are used, but a special system known as "scissors". Those wishing to get to the adjustment bolts will need to open the window. Next, you will have to act almost by touch. On the side surface at an angle to the insulation there is a clip that plays the role of a blocker. After pressing (the clip is slightly springy), it is necessary to set the sash to the ventilation mode. If everything is done correctly, it will hang on the "scissors" and the lower canopy. All that remains is to adjust the bolt pressure (its location is easiest to estimate from the photo). The tuning process is exactly the same as in the case of trunnions.

The edge of the sash of a window or door is touching the frame

A similar problem can be encountered if the windows are often open: the fastening of some parts of the fittings weakens or they themselves are deformed. Critical damage cannot occur, but the problem is solved by adjusting the position. The easiest way is to look at the manufacturer's logo on the hardware and find detailed manual on the official site. However, there are a number of general rules:

  1. If the sash is skewed from the side of the handle at the bottom, it is lifted towards the upper attachment.
  2. If it touches the upper part, it is turned towards the lower canopy or completely lowered down.
  3. If it touches in the area of the handle, the sash is shifted towards the canopy.

Special bolts with a hexagon head are responsible for the adjustment. They are located on the "scissors" system and in the lower part of the canopy... If the balcony door is warped, everything will be somewhat more complicated - it is additionally equipped with door closers, which will have to be adjusted in parallel.

The height of the sash and the horizontal movement of the lower part are adjusted by the bolts located on the lower canopy. You can get to them by removing the platbands. The key is inserted into the part - the required bolt is hidden in its very depth. The sash rises when rotated to the right and lowers when rotated to the left.

To prevent the sash from touching the frame from below, it is necessary to tighten the bolt on the lower canopy

The tilt adjustment is similar, but a different bolt is used. The one you are looking for is located at the very bottom, it is located parallel to the canopy itself. Manufacturers have provided for two ways to get to the desired bolt at once. From the side of the sash, it is easier to approach the bolt if the sash is fully open. Otherwise, the second option is preferable. The adjusting bolt also rotates to the right or left to move the bottom in the same direction.

The mechanism is adjusted by turning the bolt clockwise or counterclockwise

Finally, the top can be moved using the bolt on the scissor mechanism. You can get about it only if you open the window completely. You can find the desired hole from the side - it is slightly recessed. Further, everything is the same - turn the bolt clockwise or counterclockwise, periodically controlling the process. After that, all that remains is to put the platbands in place and assemble the tool.

Conclusion

As you can see, self-adjustment of plastic doors and windows is quite a simple matter. Even a non-professional can handle this. Fortunately, if you act carefully, you will not be able to damage anything in the process. If you have any difficulties, you can always familiarize yourself with the information on the official website of the manufacturer - perhaps you are dealing with some non-standard fittings with their own characteristics.

Often, when installing PVC balcony doors, technical problems arise associated with the operation of opening mechanisms and other structural elements. This is due to many factors: violation of installation technology, building shrinkage, improper door operation. To eliminate minor faults, you can do on their own- it is enough to correctly adjust the plastic door, following the step-by-step instructions.

Common causes of PVC door malfunctions

Adjustment of plastic doors is carried out immediately upon detection of visual structural defects in the following situations:

Violation of the tightness of the door structure

The fault can be recognized in this way. Open the door, and insert a piece of paper into the space between the frame and the canvas. Then close the canvas and try to pull the sheet towards you. The paper is pulled out effortlessly if the closing mechanism is not pressed properly. Similar actions are performed along the entire perimeter of the structure. Violation of the door tightness leads to the appearance of condensation on the glass surfaces.

Sagging and skewing of the door

It is quite simple to determine the subsidence of the canvas - a closed sash is traced with a pencil. If in the open position, the reference line runs parallel to the frame, this indicates that there are no distortions. In some cases, the sagging of the door can be determined by the formation of a through corner slot at the top of the structure or the friction of the lower part of the door leaf on the threshold.

Door frame rubbing

Difficulties in opening and closing the canvas appear as a result of friction against the box. This is due to the wear of the upper protective layer of the door, which can lead to damage to the metal-plastic profile and incorrect operation of the fittings.

Looseness or tight turning of the handle

The door handle can become loose due to insufficient fixation in the seat. This can be caused by improper or careless use of the fittings.

Another problem is tight turning of the handle, which occurs as a result of damage or contamination of the key core or the handle itself.

Incorrect operation of the locking mechanism

This is due to dirt, wear or damage to the mechanism.

Such malfunctions indicate that the PVC door to the balcony is in a bad technical condition and requires immediate adjustment.

Plastic door customization process

Adjustment of plastic doors provides for the identification and elimination of all existing faults. Perhaps fittings or individual elements structures are badly worn out, so the problem can only be solved by completely replacing them.

Consider the most likely breakdowns of the entrance balcony euro-door, which you can fix yourself.

Working tools for customization

Depending on the size of the regulating and fixing elements of the structure, as well as the manufacturer's company, the following working tools will be required to adjust the locking mechanisms:

  • a set of hexagons of various diameters;
  • a set of star keys;
  • flat and Phillips screwdrivers;
  • pliers;
  • plastic overlays;
  • means for lubricating sealing strips;
  • clean rags.

Adjusting door hinges and awnings

Reinforced-plastic doors are equipped with hidden overhead hinges, the number of which depends on the functional and technical features models. The hinges are adjusted horizontally and vertically.

You can adjust the hinges horizontally as follows:

  1. Open the door leaf and unscrew the screws from the hinges located at the top. To loosen the screws, you can use a hex key of a suitable diameter.
  2. Then close the door, remove the decorative strips, which are designed to hide the adjusting screws.
  3. To prevent possible skewing of the blade, the elongated screw at the top must be tightened more than at the bottom.
  4. To evenly move the fabric to the hinges or in the opposite direction, it is necessary to remove the lower decorative strip, tighten the loop and loosen the horizontal screws.

Vertical adjustment of the hinges is carried out to raise or lower the door. To do this, you need to find an adjusting screw, which is located at the end of the hinge from the bottom along the axis. In some models of products, such an element can be hidden under a decorative strip.

To adjust the door leaf vertically, a 5 mm hexagon is used. Making a rotational movement with a wrench clockwise, slightly raise the blade and set it in the desired position. Then tighten the screw in the opposite direction and install the decorative strip.

Adjusting the door handle

Often, the problem with the handle for a plastic door is associated with its loosening in the seat and tight turn when opening / closing the leaf.

Adjustment of the handle when it is loosening is carried out as follows:

  1. The plastic cap at the base of the handle can be rotated 90 degrees.
  2. The hidden screws are tightened with a Phillips screwdriver so as not to damage the handle body.
  3. The hardware is checked for functionality.

The tight stroke of the handle can be associated with a skewed door leaf or a breakdown of the locking mechanism. After troubleshooting the position of the door, the locking mechanism will work properly, otherwise it will need to be replaced.

The faulty handle can also be replaced if necessary. To do this, it is installed in the "open" position, the screws are unscrewed from the seats, the entire lock is dismantled. The new handle is installed on seat and is fixed with screws.

Replacing the sealing tape

If the door structure is used for a long time with sagging or skewing, this can lead to deformation or damage to the sealing strip.

A high-quality seal has been in operation for 5-7 years, however, as a result of mechanical damage or door malfunctions, its wear can occur much earlier.

To replace the sealing tape for a plastic door, you will need: scissors, a new tape, silicone glue. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Careful dismantling of the old seal with improvised means and purchasing a new product. It is better to choose a sealing tape from one manufacturer to ensure maximum sealing of the structure.
  2. After dismantling, the grooves are thoroughly cleaned to remove adhesive residues and dirt.
  3. To avoid displacement of the seal, a thin layer of silicone adhesive is applied to the corners.
  4. The prepared sealant is evenly placed in the cleaned groove, starting from the place of fixation of the old tape. In this case, sagging, tensions or material assemblies should be excluded.
  5. The joints are fixed close, sometimes a cut at 45 degrees is made.
  6. A properly installed seal must completely prevent cold penetration from the balcony.

Leveling and pulling up in height

To tighten the door structure in height and eliminate its friction against the threshold, it is necessary to tighten the vertical adjustment screw.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. For the adjusting screw, use a hexagon or a wrench with an asterisk attachment. Decorative overlays are dismantled from the hinges.
  2. The door leaf opens to gain access to the adjusting elements.
  3. The upper screw in the hinge is tightened clockwise with a hexagon, observing a strictly vertical position of the sash.
  4. With a significant shift, the lower screw is adjusted. It is important to remember that in order to raise the door, the screws are tightened clockwise, in order to lower - against it.

Align the plastic door horizontally so that it stops looping, you can use the adjustment screws that are hidden under the technological holes in the hinges. To provide free access to them, the door leaf must be kept open.

When the door is moved to the right, the adjusting element is tightened counterclockwise, when it is moved to the left, it is tightened clockwise. Thus, it is possible to adjust the position of the door in the horizontal plane in the range from 2 to 4 mm.

In some cases, the door is adjusted as follows: at the end of the open door leaf, a special tongue is pressed to transfer the structure to micro-ventilation mode. This allows easy access to the adjustment screws on the top hinge. After adjustment, the door leaf returns to its original position.

Other door problems

If the door had time to seriously sink and other troubleshooting methods did not give the desired result, then it is necessary to carry out a small repair using a double-glazed window:

  1. The glazing beads holding the glass unit are dismantled.
  2. With a special plastic or wood spatula, the glass unit is shifted to the side to eliminate the sagging of the door leaf.
  3. Plastic spacers are installed in the formed gap.
  4. Next, the location of the door is checked and the glazing beads are installed.

In some cases, a malfunction of a plastic door is associated with a broken lock. If a separate part of the mechanism fails, it is enough to replace it with a new element purchased at a specialized outlet. If the entire lock breaks down, a complete replacement of the device will be required.

Prevention of malfunctions of plastic doors

To avoid costly repair of PVC doors, it is necessary to provide timely maintenance of fittings and structural locking mechanisms.

High-quality door hardware from European manufacturers is capable of withstanding maximum loads of up to 130 kg, while the tensile strength of products of Chinese brands does not exceed 90 kg.

To ensure the smooth operation of plastic doors, two elements allow - an opening limiter and a microlift, which are not included in the standard package of the product. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase them separately before starting the installation of the door structure.

Stopper is a special comb, which is designed to limit the opening of the door leaf. This prevents possible sagging or skewing of the web.

Microlift is a device in the form of a movable plate or roller, which is provided for overall and volumetric plastic doors equipped with a heavy glass unit. The microlift eliminates the sagging of the door leaf when it is closed, taking on part of the weight of the door.

Any home craftsman should be able to solve problems with the elimination of minor malfunctions of a plastic door. Similar designs are used for balconies, loggias, winter greenhouses and summer kitchens... Self-adjustment will allow you to correctly set the "winter" and "summer" operating modes, save money on maintenance and repair of the door.

Until recently, plastic doors were used only in shopping centers and offices. Later, this element migrated to apartments and private houses, where it took its rightful place in the hallway, hallway and on the balcony. Unlike wood, plastic excludes the penetration of dust and noise, is not afraid of water and is available in various colors. The material is easy to maintain, so it is a worthwhile choice. But even a well-made and assembled structure is not a guarantee of durability. Therefore, timely adjustment of the plastic door is of great importance.

What is plastic door adjustment

Adjustment of a plastic door is understood as the process of checking and bringing it functional characteristics(opening / closing, contact forces) to the required values. Adjustment should be started when you notice the first signs of door malfunction. If the moment is missed, then there is a risk of breakage of the door leaf with the need to replace it, which will require quite significant financial costs. Experts agree that a preventive inspection of a plastic door should be carried out no more than once a year. More frequent repairs are fraught with increased wear of hardware and sealing elements.

Types of adjustment

Adjustment includes adjusting the position of the door leaf and repairing the door hardware. In the first case, the following types of work are distinguished:

  • vertical adjustment, designed to eliminate the problem of sagging of a plastic door due to its own weight;
  • horizontal adjustment, the purpose of which is to eliminate friction between the door and the threshold;
  • frontal pressure adjustment, carried out seasonally (summer and winter) to reduce or increase the gap between the leaf and the door frame.

Plastic doors can be adjusted in three directions: vertical, horizontal or frontal

Special attention should be paid to the repair of handles, locks, hinges and other accessories. When the swing handle has a tight movement, it is not so easy to use it, especially if there is a child in the house who cannot physically close the door completely. At the slightest impulse, the sash opens wide. The opposite situation is a loose handle, leading to drafts.

Reasons for adjusting the doors

The reasons for the need for adjustment are several factors.

  1. Shrinkage of the building. This is a natural process that only happens in new buildings.
  2. Incorrect door operation. Hanging foreign objects on the handle and door leaf, sharp opening and closing of the door increase the load on the hinges.
  3. Sagging of the door under its own weight. Although plastic doors are classified as light, no one has yet canceled the force of gravity.
  4. Sharp and frequent drops temperature regime... These phenomena lead to depressurization of the door system.

How to tell if a door needs adjustment

An obvious sign that it is time to rebuild a door is cold air and noise seeping into an enclosed space. Problems are also signaled by the difficulty of opening the doors. Finally, a lot of troubles can be caused by condensation that accumulates on the glass or slopes as a result of the formation of gaps between the door and the frame.

For lovers of practical methods, special tricks are offered to assess the condition of the door.

  1. Clearance check. To do this, a sheet of paper is laid between the slightly open sash and the door frame. The door is closed all the way, moving the handle to the lower position. When the sheet is sealed relative to the box, it is very difficult to remove the sheet. If there is a gap between a pair of elements, then the paper can be easily removed.

    If the gap is adjusted correctly, the paper will be ejected with noticeable force.

  2. Skew check. The assessment begins with the fact that the perimeter of the sash is marked with a pencil on the door frame with the door closed. The edges of the door leaf serve as a ruler. After that, the door is opened and the parallelism of the bottom of the opening and the outlined line is compared. If the parallelism is violated, then the door needs adjustment. A similar comparison can be made with building level... For this, a level is applied to the horizontal and vertical parts of the open door. The actual misalignment is determined from the deviation of the tool indicators. To determine the skew of the door frame, measure its diagonals. They must be equal to each other.

    To assess the curvature of a PVC door, a standard bubble level with three flasks, a simple pencil and a three-meter tape measure

  3. Checking the immobility of the door leaf in the open state. Open the door slightly to an angle of about 45 o and leave it in this position. If the door slams spontaneously or opens even more, then this is a signal for adjustment. Of course, during the test, the influence of wind must be excluded.

    If the door, which is slightly open at an angle of about 45 degrees, spontaneously opens or closes, it must be adjusted.

Is it possible to adjust the plastic door by yourself

With proper installation, the need to adjust the PVC profile door will not come soon. But in the presence of malfunctions, repairs cannot be postponed. If the product is covered by the warranty period, you must contact the company that installed the door. Self-intervention in the structure will remove the door from the warranty. The specialists who have left for the site will eliminate the deficiencies free of charge without damaging the door mechanisms.

Adjusting the door on your own only makes sense after the end of the warranty period. This is a simple matter, you can set up a plastic door yourself, especially since many manufacturers apply instructions to their products with detailed description this process. But before starting work, it is necessary to clearly imagine the structure of the plastic door and its main components.

Before you start adjusting PVC doors, always look at the warranty card so as not to violate the rules for using the product

Any plastic door consists of a base unit and replaceable spare parts, among which there are obligatory (handles, hinges) and optional (lock, closers) fittings. In general, the design of a plastic door can be broken down into the following units:

Photo gallery: adjustable plastic door elements

With the help of pivot pins, the pressure of the plastic door is adjusted Handles for plastic doors can be fixed or rotary Hinges are subject to heavy loads, so they are made from metal or Teflon Plastic doors of any design and degree of complexity lend themselves to adjustment

The tool you need to adjust the plastic doors

To reduce the complexity of the adjustment, a set of necessary tools should be prepared in advance. The minimum standard kit should include the following accessories.

  1. L-shaped hex keys cross section... If there are no such items in the home arsenal, then you can buy them in building hardware stores. It is better to take several standard sizes - from 1.5 to 5 mm. The estimated cost of the set is 400–500 rubles.
  2. Flat and Phillips screwdriver. Can be replaced with a screwdriver with suitable bits. The most often used nozzles with the marking TX and T.
  3. Pliers or pliers.

The real lifesaver in adjusting doors is a hex key, also called a furniture

If a plastic door has not been used for a long time, then the door hinges may squeak when turned. In this case, machine oil or technical aerosol WD-40 will come to the rescue. They not only remove rust deposits, but also reduce friction in moving machinery. The WD-40 can of grease is supplied with a nozzle in the form of a thin plastic straw... Due to its compactness, the product is excellent for door hinges and locks.

WD-40 is available in the form of an aerosol or oil, for doors it is better to use the first option

Instructions for different types of adjustment

Inexperienced craftsmen may decide that adjusting a PVC door is a complex procedure that requires special knowledge. But in practice, you just need to find a mechanism that needs tuning. And the instructions below will help you quickly and efficiently carry out repairs.

How to align a sagging door

It is very easy to recognize a sagging door - its edges cling to the vertical rack door frame and in closed form a gap is formed on top. Technically, the adjustment of such a door and the resulting skewness is reduced to changing the gap between the sash and the hinge assembly. The process is similar to that used when adjusting the sashes of plastic windows. To eliminate the skew, a horizontal adjustment is used, which allows the sash to be pulled to the right or left.

The procedure for adjusting a sagging door will be as follows.

  1. Find the horizontal adjustment screw in the lower hinge. It is hidden at the very bottom of the hinge on the side of the frame.

    By turning the screw, you can achieve the displacement of the door leaf towards the door lock

  2. We install a hexagon in it and turn it to the right or left. Turning clockwise will bring the sash closer to the hinge, and counterclockwise will move it away.

    After completing the horizontal adjustment, check the door for free opening and closing.

  3. Open the door to an angle of 90 o or more and find a hinge on the top of the sash. Structurally, the mechanism differs from that located below. But it has a similar hole for a hex key. We install the appropriate tool in it and turn it, bringing it closer or moving the door leaf from the axis of rotation. The screws should be turned until the door stops clinging to the threshold.

    To eliminate sagging, just turn the key 1-2 times

How to adjust the height of a plastic door

If dents or abrasions are noticeable on the door seals, then it's time to adjust the sash in height. To do this, pull up the lower loop.

The sequence of actions performed is as follows.

  1. We find in the door structure the lower hinge with adjusting screws. Usually they are hidden by a protective and decorative overlay. The latter must be removed by slightly pulling it towards you and up. The plastic dries up and cracks over time, so we do everything very carefully.

    The decorative strip must be gently pulled towards you and up.

  2. Removing the cover, we get access to the screw for vertical adjustment. We install a suitable hexagon wrench in its head (in most cases - 4 mm). Turning the key clockwise allows you to raise the blade, and counterclockwise to lower it.

    Some manufacturers use a star hole instead of a hex hole

How to change the pressure of a plastic door

It is recommended to adjust the pressure of the plastic door twice a year: decrease in summer to improve ventilation, and increase in winter to save heat in the room. Spontaneous weakening of the pressure in any of the seasons can occur for two reasons:

  • wear sealing gum losing their volume over time;
  • deformations caused by a temperature gradient.

The use of a high-quality sealant is a guarantee of the tightness of the door structure

The result of the weakening of the clamp is the gaps between the frame and the door itself, leading to a loss of sound insulation and heat. The way out of the situation may be to replace the seal, described below, or adjust the corresponding fittings.

Small cylinders located at the end of the sash in the grooves of the plugs act as an adjusting mechanism. They are called eccentrics. One plastic door can have up to seven pressure points. A response mechanism is located opposite the eccentrics. To adjust the pressure density, the eccentrics must be adjusted.

The sequence of actions for adjusting the door hold-down consists of several steps.

  1. We find all the clamps on the plastic door. They can be located not only on the outer, but also on the inner side of the sash and even on top. On their front side there is a hole for a hex key, a slot for a screwdriver, or a smooth part with flats for gripping with pliers.

    The design of the eccentric depends on the manufacturer of the fittings

  2. To increase the clamping, the eccentric is turned clockwise, and to loosen it - counterclockwise. The entire set of eccentrics must be in one position, otherwise the door may bend.

    The position of the eccentric in the middle of the groove corresponds to the normal clamping

How to replace the seal to improve pressure

If, after turning the eccentrics, a draft is walking around the room, then it is necessary to replace the seal. To do this, a new rubber profile with a cross-section and width similar to the old one is purchased in a hardware store. Good quality is noted for silicone gaskets from Germany, a slightly more budgetary way out is the purchase of ethylene-propylene rubber. To fix the profile, a rubber adhesive is required.

Replacing the seal is reduced to performing a number of activities.

  1. The old seal is completely removed, the remains are removed from the PVC door groove using a knife.
  2. The groove for the sealant is degreased and covered with an adhesive mass, which is applied with a continuous tape.
  3. The installation of a new rubber cord starts from the corner, the material is not stretched or compressed during installation.

The seal easily comes out of the groove - just hook the material with a screwdriver and pull it towards you

Handle adjustment

Adjusting the handle is considered the easiest operation to restore a plastic door. In everyday life, two types of handle malfunctions are common: dangling or tight movement. The troubleshooting principle is the same.

  1. Rotate the protective insert covering the handle holder 90 o. This allows access to the adjusting screws.

    The cap that covers the screws is made of plastic, so turn it carefully.

  2. If the handle is loose, then tighten the opened screws with a screwdriver or screwdriver. If the handle has a tight movement, then loosen the fastener in the same way.

    For double-leaf structures, the adjustment of the handles is carried out in turn

  3. Reinstall the protective insert after adjustment. If tightening the screws does not eliminate the backlash in the connection, then there is a crack in the handle body. In this case, you cannot do without buying new accessories.

Setting the correct buttonhole position

Adjustment of the hinges of plastic doors is carried out in two directions: vertically and horizontally. The vertical adjustment is described in the paragraph on setting the door leaf in height. Therefore, we will consider the process of horizontal regulation.

  1. Open the door and remove the screws from all hinges using a 3mm Allen key.
  2. Remove the decorative trims to get close to the adjusting screws.
  3. Turn the screws on all hinges the same number of turns.

The maximum horizontal adjustment is 2-3 mm

How to adjust the lock on a plastic door

The PVC door is characterized by a multi-layer structure, different from the device of glass or wooden doors... Therefore, locks have their own characteristics and nuances. It is better to entrust the installation of a door lock for a plastic door to professionals, and making a small adjustment is a feasible task for independent implementation. The most widespread for entrance and interior PVC doors are mortise locks, and for balcony doors - latches on rollers.

The plan to restore the operation of the lock depends on the type of mechanism.

  1. For mortise locks, the adjustment consists in tightening the screws installed on the main and auxiliary (counter) part of the lock. A suitable tool is a Phillips screwdriver. After tightening, it is necessary to check the lock for the correspondence of its parts to each other. To do this, close the door and make sure that the tongue fits into the groove on the counterpart.

    The mortise lock for a plastic door has special screws that can be used to adjust it

  2. For balcony latches, adjustment is carried out by tightening the screw located above the latch with a 4 mm Allen key. To weaken the clamping of the protruding part of the latch to the counterpart, the key is turned clockwise, to strengthen the clamp - counterclockwise.

    To adjust the latch, it is enough to make no more than two turns of the hex head screw.

Adjustment of double-leaf plastic doors

Most of the double-leaf plastic doors are installed at the entrance to the building, and in new houses with improved planning they frame the entrance area of the balcony. A prerequisite for their installation is width doorway should be at least 90 cm. Structurally, such a door consists of a "master" and "slave" sash. The first, movable, is equipped with a handle and locking fittings, and the second is fixed and opens when necessary. The shtulp mechanism is responsible for locking and unlocking the "slave" sash.

The shtulp is always installed on a passive sash

The adjustment of a door with two leaves does not fundamentally differ from a single-leaf door, except for the adjustment of the faceplate. Adjustment consists of the following steps, depending on the nature of the problem.

Is it possible to do without adjusting the door

According to the experience of many people, the question of adjusting a plastic door arises when there is real problem... Can this phenomenon be prevented? Unfortunately, it will not be possible to completely avoid adjustment, but there are several factors that affect its frequency. We will highlight the main ones among them.

  1. The sagging of the door has a significant effect right choice loops. Depending on the weight of the structure, there are hinges designed for a load of 80 kg or 160 kg. The heavier the canvas, the more loops should be. The average value of the loop operation cycle is 200 thousand openings and closings.
  2. A reliable way to avoid subsidence of a plastic door is to install a microlift. It consists of a movable strip fixed to the door leaf and a fixed strip mounted on the frame. When the door is closed, both parts engage, slightly raising the door leaf and reducing the load on the hinges.

    The use of a microlift prolongs the service life of hinges, handles and gaskets

  3. The fittings must be lubricated several times a year. For this, in no case should you use improvised means ( vegetable oil, petroleum jelly, margarine). It is best to apply mineral, synthetic oil or special formulations for PVC windows and doors.
