Thermostatic elements of the RA 2000 series
Thermostatic elements of the RA 2000 series are automatic temperature control devices intended for completing RA type radiator thermostats. The radiator thermostat is a proportional air temperature controller direct action with a small proportional band, which are currently equipped with heating systems for buildings for various purposes. Thermostat RA consists of two parts:
All thermostatic elements can be combined with any RA type control valves. The clip-on connection allows simple and precise fastening of the thermocouple to the valve. The protective cover of the RA 2920 and RA 2922 thermocouples prevents unauthorized dismantling and reconfiguration by unauthorized persons. Specifications radiator thermostats type RA comply with European standards EN 215-1 and Russian GOST 30815-2002.
Technical characteristics of thermostatic elements of the RA 2000 series
The main device of the thermostatic element is a bellows, which provides proportional control. The thermocouple sensor senses changes in the ambient temperature. The bellows and the sensor are filled with a highly volatile liquid and its vapors. The calibrated pressure in the bellows corresponds to its charging temperature. This pressure is balanced by the compression force of the tuning spring. As the air temperature around the sensor rises, some of the liquid evaporates, and the vapor pressure in the bellows increases. In this case, the bellows increases in volume, moving the valve spool towards closing the hole for the coolant flow into the heater until an equilibrium is achieved between the spring force and the vapor pressure. When the air temperature drops, the vapors condense, and the pressure in the bellows decreases, which leads to a decrease in its volume and the movement of the valve spool towards the opening until the position at which the system is in equilibrium again. The vapor fill will always condense in the coldest part of the transmitter, usually the furthest from the valve body. Therefore, the radiator thermostat will always react to changes in room temperature, without sensing the temperature of the coolant in the supply pipe. However, when the air around the valve is still heated by the heat given off by the piping, the sensor can register a higher temperature than in the room. Therefore, to exclude such influence, it is recommended to install thermostatic elements, as a rule, in a horizontal position. Otherwise, it is necessary to use thermoelements with a remote sensor.
Selection of the type of thermostatic element
Thermostatic elements with built-in sensor
When choosing a thermostatic element, one should be guided by the rule: the sensor must always respond to the air temperature in the room.
Thermostatic elements with a built-in sensor must always be positioned horizontally so that ambient air can circulate freely around the sensor. They should not be installed in a vertical position, as the thermal effect on the sensor from the valve body and the heating system pipe will lead to incorrect operation of the thermostat.
Thermostatic elements with external sensor
Thermostatic elements with a remote sensor should be used if: o thermoelements are closed with a blind curtain; o heat flow from the heating system pipelines affects the built-in temperature sensor; o thermoelement is located in the draft zone; o required vertical installation thermoelement. The remote sensor of the thermostatic element must be installed on a wall free from furniture and curtains or on a plinth under the heating device if there are no heating pipelines there. When installing the sensor, the capillary tube should be pulled out to the required length (maximum 2 m) and fixed to the wall using the supplied brackets or a special gun.
Thermostatic elements of the RAW series
Thermostatic elements of the RAW series are automatic temperature control devices intended for completing RA type radiator thermostats. The radiator thermostat is a direct-acting proportional air temperature controller with a small proportional band, which is currently used in heating systems of buildings for various purposes. Thermostat type RA consists of two parts: a universal thermostatic element of the RAW series and a control valve with a pre-set flow rate RA-N (for two-pipe heating systems) or RA-G (for one-pipe system).
The RAW thermostatic elements production program includes:
Thermostatic elements of the RAW series are equipped with anti-freeze protection devices, fixing and limiting the temperature setting. The RAW 5012 is equipped with a 2 m ultra-thin capillary tube that is wound inside the sensor housing and connects the remote sensor to the thermostatic element. During installation, the pipe is pulled to the required length. The clip-on connection allows simple and precise fastening of the thermocouple to the valve.
Technical characteristics of radiator thermostats with thermoelements of the RAW series comply with European standards EN 215-1 and Russian GOST 30815-2002.
In order to prevent unauthorized dismantling, the thermocouple can be fixed to the valve using a special retainer (see Accessories).
Technical characteristics of thermostatic elements of the RAW series
The main device of the thermostatic element is a bellows, which provides proportional control. The thermocouple sensor senses changes in the ambient temperature. The bellows and the sensor are filled with a special temperature-sensitive liquid. The calibrated pressure in the bellows corresponds to its charging temperature. This pressure is balanced by the compression force of the tuning spring. As the air temperature around the sensor rises, the liquid expands and the pressure in the bellows increases. In this case, the bellows increases in volume, moving the valve spool towards the closure of the hole for the coolant flow into the heater until an equilibrium is reached between the spring force and the fluid pressure. When the air temperature drops, the liquid begins to compress, and the pressure in the bellows decreases, which leads to a decrease in its volume and the movement of the valve spool towards the opening until the position at which the system is in equilibrium again. To exclude the influence of warm air from the heating pipe of the heater, it is recommended to install thermostatic elements, as a rule, in a horizontal position. Otherwise, it is necessary to use thermoelements with a remote sensor.
Thermostatic elements of the RAW-K series
Thermostatic elements of the RAW-K series are automatic temperature controllers with a small proportional band. RAW-K are intended for installation on thermostat valves from Heimeier, Oventrop or MNG, built into steel panel radiators types such as Biasi, Delta, DiaNorm, Diatherm, Ferroli, Henrad, Kaimann, Kermi, Korado, Purmo, Radson, Superia, Stelrad, Veha, Zehnder-Completto Fix. Thermostatic element of the RAW-K series has a liquid sensor with a temperature setting range of 8-28 ° C and is equipped with a frost protection device for the heating system.
Danfoss produces 3 modifications of RAW-K thermoelements:
RAW-K 5032 is equipped with an ultra-thin capillary tube 2 m long, which is wound inside the body of the remote sensor, connecting it to the working bellows of the thermostatic element. During installation, the tube is pulled to the required length. Thermostatic elements of the RAW-K series comply with European standards EN 215-1 and Russian GOST 30815-2002.
Living eco electronic radiator thermostat
The Living eco® electronic radiator thermostat is a programmable microprocessor-based regulator for maintaining the set air temperature, mainly in residential buildings served by a hot water heating system. The thermostat is designed to be installed on valves of radiator thermostats instead of traditional thermostatic elements.
The Living eco® has programs P0, P1 and P2, which allow you to adjust the room temperature at different times of the day.
The P0 program maintains a constant air temperature throughout the day. In order to save energy, programs P1 and P2 can reduce the temperature in the room at certain periods of time, which makes it possible to adapt the operation of the heating system to the lifestyle of the people living in it.
The Living eco® thermostat is supplied complete with adapters for installation on Danfoss thermostat valves, as well as most other manufacturers. Installing and setting up the Living eco® thermostat is straightforward, with only three buttons on the panel.
The Living eco® thermostat is equipped with an open window function that cuts off the supply of heating medium to the heater when the room temperature drops sharply, which reduces heat loss, thereby increasing the efficiency of the heating system.
Main characteristics of the thermostat:
Pre-installed programs
The long-term absence function allows you to reduce the temperature in a room when it is not in use. The absence period and temperature are freely adjustable by the user.
The choice of programs and their setting are made in accordance with the instructions attached to the thermoelement.
Thermoelectric actuators TWA series
Thermoelectric mini-actuators of the TWA series are designed for two-position control of various control valves in heating and heating and cooling systems of local ventilation units.
The actuator is equipped with a visual travel indicator that indicates whether the valve is closed or open.
TWA actuators, depending on the version, can be used with Danfoss RA, RAV8 and VMT valves, as well as Heimeier, MNG and Oventrop valves with M 30 x 1.5 actuator mounting threads. If the actuator is used with other types of valves, the valve must be checked to ensure that the geometry is compatible and that it closes. The supply voltage of the actuator is 24 or 230 V. The valves can be normally closed in the absence of voltage (NC) and normally open (NO). In addition, the 24 V normally closed actuator is supplied with a limit switch (NC / S).
Presetting thermostat valves RA-N and RA-NCX DN = 15 mm (chrome-plated)
Control valves RA-N and RA-NCX are designed for use in two-pipe pumping systems for hot water heating.
RA-N is equipped with a built-in device for preliminary (editing) adjustment of its bandwidth within the following ranges:
The RA-N and RA-NCX valves can be combined with all thermostatic elements of the RA, RAW and RAX series, as well as with the thermoelectric actuator TWA-A.
To identify the RA-N and RA-NCX valves, their protective caps are colored red. The protective cap must not be used to shut off the heating medium flow through the heater. Therefore, the handle (code number 013G3300) must be used.
Valve bodies are made of pure nickel plated brass (RA-N) or chrome plated (RA-NCX).
Technical characteristics of RA-N and RA-NCX valves in combination with thermostatic elements of the RA, RAW and RAX series comply with European standards EN 215-1 and Russian GOST 30815-2002, and the size connecting thread- HD 1215 standard (BS 6284 1984). All Danfoss radiator thermostats are manufactured in ISO 9000 (BS 5750) certified factories.
To prevent deposits and corrosion, the valves of the RA-N and RA-NCX thermostats should be used in hot water heating systems where the heating medium meets the requirements of the Rules technical operation power plants and networks Russian Federation... In other cases, Danfoss should be contacted. It is not recommended to use compositions containing petroleum products (mineral oils) for lubricating valve parts.
Setting on calculated value easy and accurate without the use of special tools. To do this, perform the following operations:
The presetting can be made in the range from "1" to "7" at intervals of 0.5. In the "N" position, the valve is fully open. Avoid mounting on the dark area of the scale.
When the thermostatic element is installed, the presetting is hidden and thus protected from unauthorized changes.
Presetting thermostat valve RA-N with press connection
The RA-N valve is intended for use in two-pipe pumping systems for hot water heating with copper or of stainless steel... Special crimping tools are required to connect the valve connector to the pipeline. The valve body is identical in appearance and technical characteristics to standard RA-N valves DN = 15 mm. RA-N can be used with any type of thermostatic elements of the RA or RAW series, as well as with special design thermostatic elements type RAX and thermoelectric actuator TWA-A.
The RA-N control valve is equipped with a built-in device for preliminary (mounting) adjustment of its Kv capacity in the range from 0.04 to 0.73 m3 / h.
The protective cap is colored red for identification of the valves. The cap should not be used to shut off the controlled medium. For this purpose, a special metal handle (code number 013G3300) must be used. The valve body is made of DZR nickel-plated brass and the pressure pin is made of stainless steel. The pin does not require lubrication for the entire life of the valve. The gland packing can be replaced without draining the piping system. RA-N should be used in hot water heating systems where the coolant meets the requirements of the Rules for the Technical Operation of Power Plants and Networks of the Russian Federation. In other cases, Danfoss should be contacted. It is not recommended to use compounds containing petroleum products (mineral oils) for lubricating valve parts.
Thermostat valve with increased flow capacity RA-G
Thermostatic valve with increased throughput RA-G is intended for use, as a rule, in one-pipe water heating systems with pump circulation of the coolant that meets the requirements of the Rules for the technical operation of power plants and heating networks of the Russian Federation. It is not recommended to use the valve if there are mineral oil impurities in the heating medium.
The RA-G is equipped with a gland that can be replaced without draining the heating system. The packing pin is made of chrome plated steel and does not require lubrication for the entire life of the valve. All versions of RA-G valves can be combined with any thermostatic elements of the RA series.
The RA-G valves are supplied with gray (for identification purposes) protective caps, which must not be used to shut off the heating medium flow. Therefore, a special metal service shut-off handle (code no. 013G3300) must be used.
X-traTM thermostatic valve set for heated towel rails and design radiators.
The X-tra ™ thermostatic kit is specially designed for heated towel rails. It consists of a thermostat valve, a thermostatic element and a shut-off valve with drainage function. The innovative self-sealing connection of the valves to the radiator is made with one-half-inch threads. Valves and thermocouple are available in white, chrome and steel versions, suitable for most heated towel rails. This kit is the perfect ending for a heated towel rail. Attractive and compact design allows you to install the thermostat under the heated towel rail parallel to the wall, eliminating accidental knocks on it.
The nomenclature contains two types of thermostats with different principles regulation:
- RAX, which regulates the room temperature;
- RTX, which detects and regulates the temperature of the water leaving the heated towel rail. Used on towel warmers and adjustable to 5-10 ° C above the room temperature, the RTX thermostat provides a constant temperature for drying towels.
The valve assembly is a body with a two-way self-sealing fitting, which has two O-rings: one for sealing the connection of the fitting to the heated towel rail, the other for sealing the connection of the fitting with the valve body. The socket head cap screw is used to seal the valve body to fitting. If the O-rings do not fit on the heated towel rail fittings, traditional sealing material is used.
The main task of any heating system is to provide a comfortable air temperature in the room. This temperature may differ depending on the purpose of the room, but if a prerequisite is its invariability during the day, the thermostat becomes an irreplaceable structural element of the heating device.
The Danfoss radiator thermostat consists of two parts: a valve and a thermostatic element (thermal head). Inside the thermostatic element there is a thin sealed cylinder - a bellows filled with a liquid or gaseous thermosensitive working substance. As the temperature rises, the bellows stretches and moves the associated rod, which presses on the rod in the valve, and the valve reduces the flow of coolant into the radiator. When the temperature drops, the process goes to reverse order... Thus, the thermal head is a control mechanism, and the valve is an executive one.
Manufacturer: Danfoss (Denmark).
Danfoss radiator thermostat valves
Radiator thermostat valves are divided into:
- valves for a two-pipe pump heating system (type RA-N) of increased resistance with a device for mounting adjustment of their throughput to perform hydraulic balancing of the pipeline system;
- valves of increased throughput type RA-G for pumping one-pipe or two-pipe gravitational heating system.
Danfoss valve bodies are made of brass. The connection allows easy and precise attachment of the thermostatic element to the control valve. To identify the RA-N valves, their protective caps are colored red and the RA-G valves are gray.

Danfoss thermostatic elements
Danfoss thermostatic elements (thermal heads) are automatic temperature control devices designed for completing radiator thermostats.
The thermostat, equipped with a thermostatic element, maintains a constant temperature in the room at the desired level within the range from + 5 ° C to + 26 ° C with an accuracy of ± 1 ° C.
It should be remembered that thermostats for the most part are regulatory fittings, but not shut-off(except for the RA2940 and RAW 5110 thermostats), therefore, if it is necessary to dismantle the radiator, the thermal head should be replaced with a bronze shut-off handle, which will completely shut off the coolant flow.

When installing thermostats, it should be remembered that the effect of their use will be noticeable if they control radiators with low thermal inertia. Practically, these are all known types of modern radiators except cast iron. The latter, due to the large mass of cast iron and water, will heat up and cool down very slowly, negating the effect of regulation.
Shut-off and connecting valves RLV are designed for lateral connection to the radiator of pipelines of a two-pipe heating system. Available in straight and angled versions.

The heating system is one of the most important details any home. Unfortunately, it is on her that the greatest costs go during payment. utility bills, and regardless of the installed autonomous or centralized heating.
Get a comfortable temperature and significantly reduce the cost of paying bills for consumed thermal energy the thermostats installed on each radiator battery help.
A special effect can be obtained by installing temperature regulators for batteries. heating Danfoss, capable of maintaining the required temperature in the room with an accuracy of 1 degree.
Working principle and design
Danfoss thermostats are essential to maintain the room temperature. During operation, thermostats monitor the change in room temperature using built-in heat sensors. When the temperature drops, the thermal control system opens the coolant intake, increasing its volume and circulation inside the battery. After reaching set temperature, the Danfoss thermostat reduces the heating medium flow, thereby reducing the heating temperature and energy consumption in the heater.
The equipment consists of two main components:
- Thermostatic element responsible for controlling the device.
- Valves regulating the return of the coolant to the radiator. Performing element.
The temperature control system can be mechanical or electronic. Danfoss radiator temperature controllers with electronic setting are equipped with a small display to show information about the entered program.
Differences between some models
Depending on the model, the installed thermostats can be divided according to the principle of operation and design features.- Supported ranges temperature regimes from 5 to 30 ℃.
- Temperature measurement sensor option - it can be built-in, remotely controlled and programmable.
- They differ in the type of installation - angled, straight, for bottom or top type of connection.

The possibility of implementing any type of connection is carried out thanks to the stem located along the axis of the shank. The model designation of such equipment is RTD-N UK. The wide installation possibilities of the UK model valves make it possible to use them in conjunction with Danfoss floor convectors.
Corner thermostats are attached directly to the point of intake of the coolant by the radiator and require a minimum of additional installation works, do not take up extra space. Sensors such as RTD - N or RTD - G are labeled depending on the model. The increased throughput makes it possible to use thermal valves in closed and open heating systems.
Another type of temperature regulator for Danfoss radiators is the option built into the radiator. Such equipment is widely used in compact devices located in niches, close to the side surfaces. Often built-in valves are equipped with external thermostats.
Installing and configuring the sensor
When installing automatic thermostats for Danfoss radiators, you must strictly follow the instructions. It is not recommended to position the control knob behind bulky objects, behind curtains or inside niches. This will result in distorted measurements by obstructing the uniform flow of air around the sensor. If installing a thermal head for Danfoss radiators RTD 3640 or other similar models is not possible due to the hidden placement of the battery, you need to attend to the external remote sensor.
Despite the possibility of installing thermostats in almost any heating system, sharing them with cast iron batteries will not produce the expected results due to the slow cooling and heating of the battery.
The thermostat should only be installed by professionals to avoid further problems and malfunction.
The temperature controllers for Danfoss radiators are set once, at the beginning of each heating season. For correct setting it is necessary to minimize the heat loss of the room, for which the windows and doors are closed. Then an ordinary room thermometer is installed in the center and opens as much as possible stop valve thermostat.
After the temperature in the room begins to slightly exceed the one that you consider most comfortable for yourself, the valve must be completely closed. In the process of gradual cooling of the air, the temperature will begin to decrease and as soon as it reaches the values you need, the thermostat can be gradually opened until the coolant is supplied to the system. Usually you just hear how water or other heat transfer fluid begins to circulate inside the radiator.
For sensors equipped with electronic regulation, it is enough to simply select the desired heating temperature and fix it in the program. If necessary, the temperature can be easily changed directly during operation.
After the end of the heating season, it is recommended to leave Danfoss radiator temperature regulators in the maximum open position in order to circulate inside the valve and reduce the possibility of blockage.
In many countries, up to 40% of energy resources are spent on the needs of ventilation and heating of buildings. This is several times more in comparison with the advanced European states.
The need to use
The issue of energy saving is especially acute, it is relevant against the background of a constant increase in energy prices. One of the devices that allows you to save heat energy is a thermostat for radiators, its installation reduces heat consumption by 20%. To do this, the consumer needs to choose the right design for the heating system, as well as make installation, you can find out about this by reading below.
Principle of operation
The Danfoss thermostat is designed to maintain a constant indoor temperature. For the first time, such devices began to be used back in 1943. The mentioned company is the market leader in the production and sale of such units. Structurally, the devices include 2 main elements, namely a thermal head and a valve, which are connected by a locking mechanism. The purpose of the thermal head is to determine the temperature the environment in order to regulate the effect on the actuator, the valve acts as the latter. It is designed to cover the flow of water that enters the radiator. This method of regulation is called quantitative, since the device can affect the flow of water that passes into the battery. There is another method, which is called qualitative, with its help the temperature of the water changes in the system. This is done by means of namely This element must be located in or in the boiler room. The Danfoss thermostat has a bellows inside, which is filled with a temperature-sensitive medium. It can be gas or liquid. The latter type of bellows is easier to manufacture, but does not exhibit the same speed as gas counterparts, which is why the latter have become so widespread. At the moment the air temperature level rises, the substance that is in a closed space acquires a more impressive volume, the bellows, stretching, affects the valve stem. The latter is moved downward by the cone, which is designed to reduce the flow area. This effectively reduces water consumption. When the air temperature drops this process flows in the reverse order, and the volume of the coolant increases to the optimal limit, and this is how the Danfoss thermostat works.
Consumer reviews
Depending on what kind of heating system is used, as well as what the installation technology is, thermal heads and valves can be used to control the flow of water. different combinations... If it comes about one-pipe system, then a valve should be used, which is characterized by increased throughput and insignificant. According to users, the same recommendation can be used in the case of a two-pipe gravity system, where water circulates naturally and is not influenced by forced induction. If you decide to choose a Danfoss thermostat, you can install it on two-pipe system which is equipped with circulation pump... At the same time, according to reviews, the valve should have the ability to adjust the throughput. carried out quite simply, and there is no need to use a special tool for this. After you have decided which valve to use, you should decide on the type of thermal head.
If you are interested in Danfoss, a thermostat, the installation instructions for which will be presented below, you can purchase it at an affordable cost. When determining the type of thermal head, you should be aware that it is offered for sale in some varieties. Thus, there can be a thermocouple inside. Among other things, it can be portable. Sometimes the regulator is external. Devices are also programmable, in this case they are electronic. You can also choose an anti-vandal thermal head. According to users who have chosen a regulator with an internal sensor, this device should only be installed if it is possible to position it horizontally. Then the air in the room will flow freely to the body of the device.
For reference
After you have purchased a Danfoss radiator thermostat, you should familiarize yourself in more detail with the features of its installation. Thus, it is completely unacceptable to mount it vertically on a radiator. In this case, the heat flux will constantly rise upward, and the increased temperatures from the supply pipeline and the housing will affect the bellows. Ultimately, you will face the fact that the device will not work correctly.
Customer reviews on choosing a thermostat
Home craftsmen especially emphasize that in some cases it is not possible to install the device horizontally. Then it is recommended to buy a remote control that comes complete with a capillary tube. The device is 2 meters long. It is recommended to locate the unit at this distance from the battery by mounting it on a wall. Buyers emphasize that the lack of the possibility of installing the regulator horizontally does not always indicate the need to purchase an external sensor. There may be other objective reasons for this. The Danfoss thermostat, the principle of which was described above, cannot be installed behind blackout curtains, in this case, of course, the best solution would be to purchase an external sensor. Among other things, such a need arises when a heat source is located next to the thermal head or hot water pipes pass. You can resort to this solution even when the radiator is under a wide enough window sill. In this case, the thermoelement can fall into the draft zone. Buyers claim that if at least one of the above conditions is met, then it is best to purchase a remote sensor.
Installation instructions
