A crib is the first piece of furniture for young parents. Usually, sleeping place acquired before the baby is born. But children grow up quickly and after a few years, a more spacious bed must be acquired to replace the cozy cradle. Quality furniture it is not easy to find, and prices for it are not affordable for everyone family budget... If you have certain skills, you can go the other way and make a bed with your own hands.

Ideal children's furniture should have the following qualities:

  • be made from natural, safe materials;
  • have a "breathable" design;
  • have enhanced strength;
  • not have sharp corners, protrusions and other dangerous elements;
  • have a smooth, sanded surface to eliminate the risk of splinters and scratches;
  • match the height and weight of the child;
  • protect the baby from falling;
  • have high functionality (in addition to the berth, there are also sections for storing things).

Benefits of making a baby bed yourself.

  1. You are confident in the quality of the materials from which the crib is made, as you choose them yourself and work with them yourself. In store products, this parameter is not always obvious.
  2. You develop the design of the bed, taking into account the individual needs and characteristics of the child (if any), the dimensions and stylistic orientation of the room.
  3. You can independently test the strength of the bed structure during the manufacturing process and, as a result, be sure that jumping on the mattress will not end in furniture breakage.
  4. You save a lot if you compare the cost of your own bed with the prices of stores;
  5. You get real pleasure creating furniture for your son or daughter with your own hands.

Deciding on the design of the bed

The easiest way to make a classic crib is a frame, four legs, a headboard and a mattress. However, such a model carries a minimum functional load - it simply provides the child with a sleeping place. Suitable for a spacious bedroom of one child, where there is already a spacious wardrobe, and there is no need for additional storage space.

If the children's room does not differ in impressive dimensions, it will be more practical to supplement the bed structure with drawers or even a chest of drawers. This will allow you to more effectively organize the space in the room.

Bunk bed made of wood

The loft bed is even more functional. It allows you to raise the child's bed to the second tier, and at the bottom to organize a wardrobe, a table, bookshelves or a sports corner - depending on the needs of the child. However, such a design will require serious skills in the process of creating the bed. If you are just starting your journey in the manufacture of furniture, it is better to stop at the first two options.

Finally, bunk beds are especially popular. This is a great way to comfortably accommodate two children in a small children's room. However, as in the case of the loft bed, it is not easy to make a bunk bed yourself and before starting work it is better to carefully weigh your strengths and capabilities.

We will consider further instructions using the example of creating a bed with drawers. This is a fairly simple option and is suitable even for a person with minimal skills in creating furniture. At the same time, such a crib is notable for its practicality and functionality.

Required materials and tools

It is better to make a bed from solid wood. It is the most environmentally friendly and safe material to create truly durable furniture. MDF made of light wood is well suited. Heavy solid wood not suitable for cots, since this furniture often has to be moved and rearranged.

Crib

In addition to blanks from MDF, you will also need a wooden beam for lamellas. For this part of the bed, choose an elastic material (for example, plywood will work in this case, but chipboard will not).

In addition to wood and plywood, you will need:

  • special corners made of metal;
  • self-tapping screws and other fasteners of various diameters;
  • guiding elements for drawers;
  • drill;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • sanding machine;
  • sandpaper;
  • paper tape.

In addition, at the final stage of making the bed, you will also need a mattress. When choosing, do not save money, give preference to a high-quality orthopedic model. An important nuance- although the mattress is installed last, it is better to purchase it in advance and make a drawing of the bed under its actual dimensions.

Decor variations

A simple bed with drawers usually does not offer any special design solutions... As a decor, you can choose original drawer handles or make a carved headboard. You can also paint the bed in your chosen color, highlighting the design of the rest of the child's room. The option with the painting of the headboard or legs, the use of special decorative stickers and other decorative elements is allowed.

Emphasize classic design a children's bedroom can be done using carved legs or sides.

If you have certain skills, the sides of such a bed with boxes can be made in the form of the walls of a car, as a result of which, as a result, the bed-typewriter, which is popular today. For girls, you can make a sleeping place in the form of a carriage. However, many young women also like options with cars, except that it is better to make the colors more "feminine" colors.

Carved handrails and slats can be used to decorate a bunk bed. A more difficult option is to issue bunk bed or a loft bed in the form of a castle or fortress, a tree house. To do this, it is enough to cut out the facade of the corresponding type and paint it in accordance with the sketch.

Whatever bed you decide to create with your own hands, remember: you are creating furniture for a child. Approach the task responsibly. There are no trifles in the creation of furniture - the safety of those who will use this furniture depends on the grinding of each corner and the strength of each joint. Put maximum effort, care and love into your product - and such a bed will give your child good dreams, and you - joy and satisfaction from the work done.

50 photos of crib ideas:

The crib should be ready to accept new additions to the family while mom prepares for discharge, but not just out of courtesy and joy. Man is a social being, and a stable society is impossible without hierarchy. Having received his territory and things from birth, even if he still does not understand their meaning at all, a small person will gain self-confidence, with time he will correctly determine his place in society and achieve success. This, of course, is not an absolute law, but the statistics show unequivocally: babies who, by the will (or lack of will) of their parents in an irresponsible age, wandered anywhere, are much more likely to grow up carelessly useless. There is even a historical and sociological theory: they say, people began to come out of savagery and create civilization, when the cradle was invented and mothers stopped carrying babies all the time.

All this may be interesting, but in a developed civilization, dad, in happy anticipation rushing to shops and websites, discovers that the prices of cribs for babies are disproportionately high compared to the complexity and material consumption of products. And you will not dig into, under each hidden cheat there is a solid medical-ecological-production-legislative basis. But what about in a consumer society, and let the parents spare nothing for their child.

Let's say the head of a family is a craftsman. Then he has an idea to make the bed himself: its design has developed over millennia, there is nothing complicated in it, and nothing is required of material. It is possible to make a crib for a baby with your own hands, using an ordinary household tool and plus a jigsaw, manual or, better, electric. There is one more reason: the mother after childbirth, especially if this is the first-born, will be "on edge." Having made sure that the faithful in her absence did not wander and did not drag, but worked diligently in his field for the sake of the family good, she will calm down much faster and generally return to normal. And there will be more milk, which again benefits the child.

What are we going to do?

Classic bed for a newborn, pos. 1 in the figure, the design is straightforward. Basic requirements for it:

  • Ecological cleanliness and complete health safety.
  • Lack of sharp protrusions and edges.
  • There should be no holes / openings and crevices in which anything from a finger to a head can get stuck in the little one.
  • The presence of sides is required; it is known how dangerous it is for babies to fall even from a low height. The front side (wall) is desirable partially hinged or lowered, so that it is more convenient for the mother to take care of the child.
  • Ventilated, i.e. lattice or perforated bottom. No matter how the means of children's hygiene are improved, the baby will someday work on the bed.
  • If a newborn is the firstborn and it is supposed to someday add siblings to him, then sufficient strength and durability in combination with a collapsible design.

Often, a crib is placed on wheels for ease of movement around the house, pos. 2.In small apartments sometimes you can find samples with boxes for linen in the bedside space, as in adults, pos. 3. However, for the reasons stated above, the boxes under the infant bed must be fitted with moisture-proof lids. Finally, a rather complicated and expensive product, but convenient for the mother and saving living space, is a crib for newborns combined with a changing chest of drawers, pos. 4.

Many babies have to be rocked to sleep. The main types of rocking beds hammock, pos. 5, cradle (with top suspension of the bed), pos. 6, and a cradle (with a bed on the lower curved rocking supports), pos. 7. The hammock is suitable only as a temporary rookery, say, at the dacha on weekends. The bones of the baby are still soft, and constant reclining on something malleable deforms his skeleton. Cots for newborns - hammocks are often made foldable and transported.

It is easy to swing the cradle, but it is more difficult to make it. some kind of mechanism is required. In addition, the risk for a baby to fall out of the cradle, hanging over the side, is much greater than from a hammock or cradle. The latter, in addition, is easier to make, and small bumpers on the rocking chairs make it completely safe, which is why the cradle is the most common. In the cradle, there must be a bed retainer, and it is highly desirable spring-loaded with self-resetting, which must be diverted for motion sickness, otherwise the bustling mother may forget to insert it, moving away from the crib. "Self-resetting" means that the mechanism itself will put the bed horizontally and drop the pin into the socket if the cradle tilt angle exceeds a certain permissible value.

Note: in cribs for babies there may be completely different bumpers, which see at the end.

Swinging in the transverse direction is not optimal for a person, this is how our vestibular apparatus is arranged. Anyone who has gone to sea in a boat or sailing yacht knows that pitching is much easier onboard. Babies who are constantly rocked from side to side may even develop an addiction to motion sickness, which is why the obnoxious screamer, having grown up, runs the risk of turning into a hyperactive stunner or "no" autistic. The likelihood of injuring the baby's psyche by excessive motion sickness is reduced to almost zero if the cradle (pos. 8) or cradle (pos. 9) are adapted to longitudinal motion sickness.

V Lately pendulum beds, pos. 10, free from the disadvantages of bassinets and cradles. First, lateral swinging in a pendulum crib is harmless, because the child's body does not tilt with him and his vestibular apparatus experiences an absolutely insignificant load in one plane. Secondly, it is almost impossible for a child to fall out of it, because the bed itself is not tiltable. Thirdly, the bedside box can be arranged more simply - access to it is provided automatically. Himself pendulum mechanism is fundamentally uncomplicated, pos. 11, you will only have to occasionally adjust the spring tension as the child grows.

How not to do it!

In no case do you need to make a crib for a newborn that can swing in 2 planes, pos. 1 and 2 in Fig. Perhaps your offspring, having matured, will set out to become a pilot or parachutist and from the first call will withstand with a joyful grin, without turning a little green, training on the loping. But in infancy, a humpty-dumpty to and fro would not have benefited Valery Chkalov either.

Further, it is undesirable to make the bottom of the crib with too sparse crate, pos. 3. When the baby learns to get up, his legs will crawl into the cracks along with the mattress. A thick pad (see below) solves the problem, but this is extra work, material and costs, and unnecessary drying replacements. The best base for a newborn's crib is made of fiberboard, approx. 10 mm with holes 20-30 mm in diameter, drilled along the mesh with a pitch of 70-90 mm. Suddenly it will completely become unusable, it is easier and cheaper to replace it than a mattress topper, and it takes up less spare space. And don't worry, fiberboard is an environmentally friendly material, even cleaner than the original wood. In its manufacture, synthetic binders are not used, and in the process of processing all volatile substances are "exhaled" from the wood.

Note: it is also undesirable to make a bottom adjustable in height in the baby's crib. The nests under its holders are tempting from the point of view of knowing the world, and the little finger will crawl into them. If without nests, then a rather complex and expensive mechanism is required. And the folding side is enough for mom.

A bad solution is also a crib, pos. 4. In all creatures, whose life is divided into an active phase and sleep, instinct during the latter requires complete safety. Combining the sleeping area with the play area does not give it. Which adult can have a good night's sleep at work? And what about small children who are defenseless and are not yet able to be aware of their surroundings?

About the canopy

A canopy over the crib of a newborn is not a luxury. And not so much a remedy for dust, which should not be in a nursery and in a well-kept apartment in general. But remember, which adult was not brought to white heat by an autumn fly or an itchy and itchy mosquito in the dark? What is it like for a kid who does not yet own little hands? And it is very, very unnecessary to turn on a fumigator or spray a repellent in the nursery.

The canopy over the baby's bed is made of natural fabrics that freely pass through the air: chiffon, veils (silk or cotton), organza (only silk), muslin. Optimal design- a tent, on the left in the figure, or a tent, in the center, allowing, if necessary, to fully open / move the canopy. But remember: in the process of learning about the environment, the child will pull and pull the canopy.

Purchased children's canopies are equipped with a sturdy bracket with a holding paw made of lightweight durable elastic plastic, on the right in Fig. At self-production the best way- canopy tent, suspended from the ceiling by a cord. An M6 screw hook screwed into a steel threaded collet, and a strong adult will not pull out of the ceiling, and if you unscrew it, the hole is almost imperceptible on the ceiling with a height of only 2.5 m. except for the lightest fabric and thin lace will not fall off.

Note: best protection on a bed from annoying insects and dust, under which an asthmatic person is not out of breath - mosquito net... But not a fiberglass window, but a special tropical one. Its meshes are wider than that of dress-drapery airy fabrics and it itself is stronger. We have this rare product, but still take an interest. Ruched bows don't look bad for her either.

What bumpers to make?

Sellers offer a wide variety of protective fences for baby cots: folding, lowering, swing, sliding, with doors and hatches. But upon closer examination, it turns out that there is something everywhere in which a finger or a whole pen can be pinched. And the recesses under the overhead details carefully store the dust and, as it were, invite the settlers themselves. Only undesirable and not a human kind, but an arthropod.

The simplest and safest sides for a newborn's crib are folding ones with elastic bands, see fig. The height of the folding part of 150-180 mm is enough for the mother to be comfortable looking after the baby. There are no complaints about such boards, but it is reliably known that at least one new person in this world with a character to the envy of m-mes Sobtchak & Timoshenko has never been injured in her and has not broken anything in her for 3.5 years; the elastic bands were changed 2 times during this time.

Note: 2 ways of laying this type of flap will be discussed below.

Let's get down to business

Now it's time to make the crib. Making it and decorating it is another article (with one small exception, see below); first you need to make a solid and reliable base for them. And even before that, decide on the material; first of all, for its safety for the baby, then for the price and manufacturability at home.

What to make of?

Even the safest plastics disappear: a little older, the child begins to touch everything. The tactile sensations from plastic go against its fundamental instincts, which can cause irritability and damage the developing moral and volitional qualities. For the same reason, we discard the metal, which will also harm more when the baby's teeth begin to cut. Then the disadvantages of textile and other semi-soft type of beds will also fully affect.

As for laminated chipboard, the emission class of phenol-containing compounds E0 (zero, premium or extra grade) seems to be applicable for children's furniture. But conscientious manufacturers in the specifications honestly point out: "For children from 6 months", therefore, not newborns. In addition, high-quality laminated chipboard is expensive, a bed made of it will cost more than a ready-made purchased one with a canopy. That is, a newborn's bed must be made of wood.

We choose wood for a crib taking into account that its impregnation with any biocides is unacceptable. Therefore, any commercial timber of foreign origin is eliminated: its raw material on the market will simply not be admitted to the market by consumer supervision. From domestic hardwoods, birch and beech are suitable for a bed for several generations; for single use - cheap aspen or linden, but expensive. All others contain tannins, salicylates and other substances that are harmless for adults, but can cause allergies in a baby.

From conifers pine is quite reliable, but not all. Pine wood is marketed in the form of expensive tar, cut down during sap flow, and cheaper dry chips, harvested in winter. The tar is good for outdoor buildings, because it does not lend itself well to rot and pests, but it is absolutely unsuitable for a crib. In other conifers, the change in resin content from sap flow to sleep is not so pronounced, so it is better not to risk it.

In order not to miscalculate with pine, it is better to make a crib out of it with plywood. The cheapest construction and packaging plywood is made just from dried pine, glued together in a harmless and safe casein glue... It makes no sense to "cheat" manufacturers, since everything else is more expensive. A plywood crib will serve with proper home preparation material, see below, 2-3 times for 4-5 years, which is quite enough for a family.

About finishing

Over time, the baby will feel that something is climbing in his mouth with which to bite. And then he will begin to gnaw everything. This is a natural and necessary process, but once it created serious problems for children's furniture makers: leaving the tree bare - the fibers will be swallowed, or even choked with a chip. Nitrolac is not harmless, and its sharp scales cut lips, gums, tongue.

Now there is no such problem: acrylic varnish on water based, firstly, it is completely safe; secondly, it is very durable. Compounds of a similar composition restore the enamel of the bathtubs, against which a hardened wolf will break its fangs.

Very suspicious parents can also put special silicone pads on the sides of the crib. But you will have to buy them and adjust the design to the chosen sample: construction and aquarium silicone is not suitable for homemade products, you need a special one, from which teething toys are made. It is not on sale in its raw form, only in finished products.

Cradle and classic

How the classic wooden cradle for newborns works is shown in fig. on right. Pay attention, firstly, to the packing of the sides in the pockets and the prefabricated structure of the rockers. We will deal with the first one, and we will use the second later. Its recommended dimensions and specification of details in a modern design, without labor-consuming artistic details, are shown in Fig. below.

Cradle

Who knows, perhaps the pediatrician, after examining your restless baby, will recommend rocking him in the cradle. A child is a child of strife, and there is no person who would fit into everything general rules... For such a case, Fig. drawings of a newborn's crib - a cradle made of boards. However, the grown child cannot be kept in the cradle in any way, so the length of this crib should not be increased. Secondly, the retainer (stopper) of the bed is still needed, since the baby is restless. In this design, it is manual, so remember to stick in when leaving and control each other.

Plywood classic

Here in fig. - detailing of a classic-type plywood crib for a newborn with an elastic band. It was made at home; a manual jigsaw (there were no electric ones on wide sale at that time). The wayward person mentioned above grew up in her. Material - 2 sheets (quite a lot left) of birch plywood 6 mm thick; construction pine will also go.

First of all, a plaza was prepared (several pieces of packaging cardboard put together), the contours of the parts were sketched on it, and everything was covered with one piece plastic wrap... Then a sheet of plywood on the plaza was impregnated with a water-polymer emulsion, first on one side, and after it had completely dried on the other, and cut into blanks with a hacksaw for metal. A jigsaw cut out grooves for the crate in the middle plates of the packages and openings in the backs.

Parts from plates on PVA for wood were glued (sold and sold in construction and hardware stores). The glue was applied with a brush in a thin layer on all glued surfaces of the plates of the package and kept until soft tack (the glue film turns slightly yellow and becomes translucent in places).

There was no loan for rallying the packages, there was no time to do it. Therefore, small packages were simply wrapped in polyethylene and tightly pulled together with a flat elastic band for panties; it left a whole skein, approx. 10 m. It was necessary to tighten the packages with an elastic band by winding and pulling the turns very evenly so that the plates would not crawl over the glue. The upper and lower strips of the walls (pos. 1 and 3) nevertheless crawled, therefore, having applied and withstood the glue, they had to be knocked down with small nails. The nails were then pulled out, and the holes were covered with homemade sawdust putty on the same PVA.

It was more difficult with the backs, you can't pull them off with rubber bands. Therefore, holes were drilled for assembly guides, which were used for furniture dowels 18 mm long. The gluing of the backs was carried out on the plaza under oppression, which consisted of pancakes from dumbbells and stacks of books. According to the calculation, for 2 layers of PVA of such an area, a bend of 25-35 kg is needed, evenly distributed over the surface of the package.

Also, parts of the support belt were glued from 3 strips of plywood, but it was assembled already in the crib in place. In all details, the protruding streaks of glue after drying for 3-4 days were cut off with a safety razor blade (there were no cutting knives then either) and the edges were sanded.

While the glued packages were drying, the frame of the bed was assembled from boards cut in half a tree, glued without aging and reinforced with nails. The rectangularity of the frame on the not yet frozen glue was carefully checked by measuring the sides and diagonals, because it then served as an assembly template, and only then the nails were driven in. The flooring of the bed is perforated fiberboard, see above. It was laid on glue and nails on the side with which the legs of the crossbars were, so that they lay on longitudinal beams rather than hanging from nails and glue.

Note: the racks of the backrests were made similar to those of the walls, but shorter. Stacked in place before overlaying the top plate.

The crib was going to be on the screws (now, of course, confirmations will be better). The loads on the joints of the baby's crib are small, fastening with threaded hardware along the layer in this case is quite reliable and at the same time allows up to 4-5 disassemblies / assemblies if the plywood is impregnated with a water-polymer emulsion. The rectangularity of the box was verified by the stock, and its horizontalness by the level. Then marks were made along its bottom and the beams of the support belt were placed along them on glue and nails; the transverse ones should be spaced between the longitudinal ones, so the crib will be stronger.

The oval support boss of the side flap is less traumatic and easier to make than a pocket. Some of the scraps with a thickness of 18 mm went to the bosses, they were put on glue and nails. At the ends of the strip, U-shaped holes were chosen for them, with a drill and a chisel - there were no household cutters for wood at that time either.

Time still endured, and the bed was covered with oil varnish, not as harmful as nitro. Immediately, the elastic bands were fixed in the blind holes with also furniture dowels. Then another final drying, and the bed is ready.

Transformer

There are also many convertible cribs for newborns on sale, but at least one variety is not just a fashion statement. It is about a crib for growth, but the matter here is not limited to a sliding bottom. A sufficiently formed personality may be indignant: "I will not sleep like a small person!" Therefore, a transformer crib "from scratch" should be structurally and externally similar to an adult. In this case, the fence is made removable from the cord; of course, this is only an option for reasonably calm babies. And the transformation comes down to the fact that one back is removed and the bed is increased in length with it. Drawings of a homemade "growing" bed for newborns are shown in Fig.

Drawings of a crib "from zero to growth"

And if you are very restless?

It also happens that the doctor throws up his hands: nothing can be done, you need to sleep with you, then he will outgrow it. Or, on the contrary, even if the mother is the most wonderful in the world, she is weak and constantly gets up at night to feed her. Then you need an add-on to parent crib without front wall. The crib for restless newborns necessarily includes a bumper - a soft hygroscopic pillow along the contour with ties, see fig. on right. And from what and how to sew a crib bumper with your own hands, see the video below:

Video: how to sew a bumper (bumpers) in a child's bed

Arrangement

In no case should you protect the mattress of a crib from getting wet with oilcloth, this will lead to abrasions and diaper rash in the baby. First, you need 2 mattresses, with a margin for drying. Secondly, they must be non-rotting and dry quickly enough. Therefore, it is preferable to sew them from linen and wrap them in coarse calico, flannel or a bike. Best horsehair padding; its almost complete replacement is coconut fiber or sisal.

Now remember that the bones of a newborn are soft. Therefore, the thickness of the mattress needs to be small, up to 6-7 cm. But then sleeping, feeling a hard bed as a body, will not be so comfortable. A mattress topper 10-15 cm thick will help out from the most dense, 45-50 room, furniture foam rubber, it is wrapped in the same fabric as the mattress. The mattress topper, in addition, will absorb some of the moisture, which will speed up the drying of the mattress, but then they are also needed 2.

A newborn does not need a pillow to prevent torticollis from developing. However, sometimes, on the recommendation of a doctor, for very nimble ones you have to buy a butterfly pillow: its middle is almost flat, and the wings are voluminous. But you do not need to experiment with such pillows yourself - suitable materials are not sold separately and the manufacturing technology is not subject to "domestication".

Decorations

When considering the design of a baby's crib, you need to remember that his vision, both in acuity and color perception, is formed gradually. Therefore, the contours of the decor elements need smooth, and the colors are dim and unsaturated, preferably close to the middle of the spectrum: pale yellow, light beige, light green, pale blue. Whitewashed red and orange are acceptable, but toxic green, deep blue and purple tones no way, like everything shiny.

A very simple and useful way for a child to decorate his crib is to hang a mobile carousel over it, see fig., With soft toys. Their smooth movement will not only calm the baby, but also contribute to the development of his visual motor skills. Since the introduction of mobiles for babies, the number of children with congenital visual impairments has declined markedly.

Finally

Presumably, now it has become clear to you that an unpretentious bed for a newborn is inherently not so simple, because there is a whole world of a new person in it. Therefore, let me wish you success not only in your skill, but also in the study of the basics of child psychology. They have it from the very beginning, even if they themselves do not yet understand it.

Baby cot: diagram, photo, dimensions. How to make a crib with your own hands.

The question of how to make a crib on their own usually arises from future parents who are waiting for replenishment in the family. Of course, a crib for a baby can be bought in a store, but in fact it can be made with your own hands from natural wood and it will be no worse than the purchased version. Indeed, for the future dad, a self-made crib will also be a source of pride.

In the frame of the mattress topper, we drill holes with a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the screw so that the screw is tightly screwed into the wood. We screw in the screws with a polyhedron wrench.

Then we fix the sidewalls in the same way, we need 8 screws, 4 screws per side.

A little effort and a crib for a newborn is ready, the crib does not need to be painted or varnished because when the child grows up a little and his teeth are cut, he will inevitably try to gnaw the sides of the crib, so varnish and paint are not the best option for covering a crib.

All parents know that a child's bed must be comfortable for the child to feel comfortable. This is especially true of beds for a newborn baby. During sleep, the child should feel good. For this reason, the choice of this item should be treated with special responsibility but do it yourself. Moreover, a do-it-yourself children's bed will be a source of pride for a parent, because it is made with special love and warmth, which means that it will be comfortable in the first place. How to make a bed for a child? Consider a detailed manufacturing scheme.

Drawings and diagrams

It is advisable to draw a drawing yourself in advance, a diagram on which the future project of a crib for a girl or boy will be displayed. If you plan to make a bed for a house or a dolphin, then everything will be much more complicated. It is better in these cases to use ready-made photos and drawings. The photo shows all the necessary measurements and the location of each element. In the manufacture of circuits, everything should be observed exactly to every millimeter, it is on this that the strength and appearance beds.

Assembling a crib for a girl and a boy with my own hands Is a rather difficult task that requires a lot of responsibility. Therefore, many people prefer to purchase already ready product... But still, you can do much better on your own, for this the main thing is to follow the entire manufacturing scheme and do not forget to use the drawings. And if you show your imagination, then you can make a bed for a house or a car.

Materials and tools

A number of materials and tools will be required to work, as well as important details, which should be stocked up in advance.

Materials (edit)

Cots for a baby are too expensive, and sometimes their cost depends on the appearance and purpose, depending on the gender - for a girl or a boy, so it is better to make it yourself. Before you start making this piece of furniture, you need to develop a project, purchase required material... The main thing is to have an idea of the structure of this element. With the initial dexterity skills, you can make premium furniture, while spending a small amount of money, which would be enough to purchase a simple bed made of MDF or chipboard. It is advisable to carry out a preliminary drawing, project. Drawings and a project will help facilitate the entire process of assembling the product for the child.

Before starting a project for making a crib, you need to purchase materials:

  • edged boards - they must have a coniferous wood base: spruce or pine;
  • bars that have a cross-sectional size of 50x100 mm. These elements are required for the manufacture of the main frames and legs;
  • slats with cross-sectional dimensions of 20x20 mm. These components will be needed to make the filling;
  • be sure to purchase plywood. Its thickness should be approximately 5 mm.

What kind of bed was not made for a house, a car, you need to remember important rule- bars and slats should be chosen from wood of special strength. The quality and further wear life of the product depends on them.

Required tools

The crib has a very simple design, it can be assembled by a beginner in this business, but it is still worth preparing the necessary set of tools, without which the whole project of work will be impossible. Be sure to prepare the necessary equipment for making a crib for a girl or boy:

  • you will need an electric jigsaw or saw to cut boards and beams;
  • grinding machine;
  • you will need a hand-type milling cutter that has many nozzles;
  • it is advisable to purchase a file designed for woodwork;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • tools for measuring work - tape measure and level;
  • clamps will be required with which the gluing of the blank elements will be performed;
  • brushes and rollers for finishing works- painting, varnishing and decorating.

Details

In addition to the basic materials, you need to purchase related items. Without them, the work of making the crib will be simply impossible. So, what will you need to purchase from materials of the related type:

  • you need to buy self-tapping screws. Preference should be given to products of the phosphated type, which are intended for woodwork;
  • prepare wood-type glue;
  • special putty mixture for finishing woodwork;
  • corners made of solid steel, which are needed to fasten all parts;
  • be sure to buy a stain to impregnate wood and protect it from moisture. Otherwise, the product will not last even a year;
  • you will need varnish for painting furniture or paint for interior finishing work.

Do not forget about decoration, it is advisable to decorate it, how to do this can be seen in the photo. You can make a bed for a house, dolphin, car. It can be decorated in the form of these products. If the bed is for a house, then you need to purchase the appropriate decoration elements and textiles. If the product is made for a dolphin, then preference should be given to blue decoration elements. If it is intended for a girl, then it can be decorated with various pink ribbons, flowers, along the edges you can hang a pink canopy made of multi-colored textiles with drawings. If for a boy, then here you will need to use the same ribbons, only blue, blue, green.

You must definitely buy a mattress. It is better not to save on it, the further comfortable stay of the child in bed depends on it. It is advisable to purchase an orthopedic product in specialized stores. It has a beneficial effect on the formation of the spine of a growing organism.

Furniture ties and a special drill are required to assemble the parts.

Manufacturing instruction

To get a high-quality and functional product, we advise you to follow the instructions below in detail.

Frame

The frame of the crib consists of the backs and the base itself, on which the mattress will be placed in the future. The width of the frame should be calculated based on the size of the mattress. The frame is made of two crossbars. We make these crossbars from edged boards. The length of the beams is calculated independently, it all depends on the age up to which the crib for a girl or boy will be used. Usually standard length is 120 cm.

How to make a skeleton:

  • measure the required length of the crossbars with a tape measure and make notes with a pencil;
  • with help electric jigsaw we saw off the boards for the crossbeams of the required length, there should be only two of them;
  • from the edges of the beams, you need to put a 25x50 mm bar on the glue and self-tapping screws;
  • it is 10 cm shorter in length, so we leave 5 cm in size at each end;
  • a hole must be drilled under the screws, it should be drilled close to the edge so that the tree does not burst;
  • using the corners, we connect the frame with the headboards. We fix it with self-tapping screws and glue. We fix it in 4 corners;
  • at the end of the place of fastening, we cover it with a putty mixture for wood.

Base

Further, the base is made, on which the mattress and other bedding will be laid in the future. It is advisable to use a material of good strength as it, capable of withstanding heavy loads.

How to make a base:

  • from 20x20 slats, you need to cut boards that will serve as filling the base;
  • they should be cut so that they completely fill the entire base. It is not worth saving, if there are few of them, in the future they will quickly break down;
  • they should be attached to the frame strips. You need to attach them with emphasis;
  • the installation step should be 10 cm, 2 self-tapping screws should be used for each bar;
  • a hole should be drilled in advance for the installation of each self-tapping screw. While tightening the self-tapping screw, its head must completely go into the wood;
  • the holes should be coated with a putty mixture for wood;
  • after the putty dries, everything needs to be sanded.

Legs

The instruction for the process of making a crib for a child is not complete without making legs. The legs of the crib are made according to the scheme:

  • from a bar 50x100 you need to cut blanks. They should be long under the head and shorter at the foot;
  • you need to complete 4 blanks. 4 for the headboard and 4 for the footboard;
  • using glue, you need to glue the blanks in pairs. To do this, you need to take one blank, attach it to another and make sure that they are inserted exactly;
  • we twist them with self-tapping screws;
  • when fastening the workpieces with self-tapping screws, the screw heads should be sunk deep into the wood so that they hold tight;
  • we close up the places of fastening with putty for wood;
  • when everything is dry, the surface of the wood should be well sanded.

Dowel holes

For the headboards, boards that have a groove with a width of 25 mm are required. If a router is available, these holes can be cut and milled by yourself or in a carpentry shop. Holes for dowels must be drilled at the ends of the grooved strips. During drilling, it is necessary to determine with particular accuracy their distance from the edge - they must be strictly at the same level on all planks.

The holes should be the same depth, which is half the length of that piece of wood. These holes need to be drilled with a drill. And in order not to be mistaken, on the drill you need to mark the size of the recess and stick a piece paint glue.

Dowel holes

Headboard

The headboard should be made according to the instructions:

  • from the boards of the edged type, you need to cut planks having the same length dimensions. They are needed to fill the headboard and footboard;
  • the groove for inserting the slats under the headboard, you need to fill it with glue in advance;
  • we insert the boards into the grooves and fix them evenly;
  • holes for the dowels should be drilled in the leg. It is better to attach the back and mark the insertion points with a pencil;
  • drill holes in the marked places and pour glue there;
  • we put the back in these holes, this must be done tightly so that there are no cracks and distortions;
  • we make the second back.

An important point when it comes to gluing parts. After gluing, all elements will be mobile, so it is important to set everything exactly 90 degrees and leave to dry. Otherwise, in the process of further assembly, you can simply damage the entire structure.

Assembly

After all the elements of a baby bed for a girl or boy are ready, you need to check for chips and various defects. Features of preparing bed elements for assembly:

  • if there are any chips, then they need to be repaired with a putty mixture;
  • when everything is dry, all elements need to be sanded;
  • after sanding, the components must be primed or stained. This will protect the material from moisture and preserve its properties for a long time;
  • when all the elements are dry, everything needs to be painted. The color of the paint depends on the gender of the child; for a girl, you can use gentle tones - pink, red, white, light green, yellow. And for a boy, blue, blue, green, yellow are suitable;
  • we paint all the elements with paint, you can apply multi-colored staining. Perform this stage as you wish;
  • if the bed is made for a house, then you need to show imagination and draw everything required elements... If the bed is a house, then windows, roof and other important elements should be noted. If a dolphin, then you need to show all your artistic skill and paint in the form of this animal;
  • after drying, you need to purchase textiles on the bed for a girl or boy the desired color and drawing.

We attach the back to the leg of the bed

Now it is fashionable to make furniture on your own at home, and every year the number of home craftsmen is increasing. Someone prefers to purchase blanks and collect from them the necessary furniture, and someone does all the work on their own from start to finish. A homemade bed can be very simple or with intricate shapes and patterns. It's not just craftsmanship and equipment - personal preference and financial ability play an important role. In this article we will tell you how to make a bed with your own hands from various materials.

In order for the product to please and be able to use it for a long time, you need to approach the matter very responsibly, realizing the limits of your capabilities. It is necessary to select a suitable model and, taking into account the material used, prepare the tool.

Required tools

Depending on what material is selected, certain tools will be required to work with it.

For working with metal

  • Electric welding machine.
  • Bulgarian.
  • File.
  • Metal brush.
  • Electric drill.
  • Roulette.

For working with wood

  • Electric jigsaw. If the product is made of boards, you can get by with a hacksaw for wood.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Electric drill.
  • Roulette.
  • Construction corner.
  • Pencil.
  • Plane.
  • Chisel.
  • Sanding machine.

As for consumables, we will talk about this separately, considering this or that model.

Material selection

Materials for making the bed:

  1. Metal corner.
  2. Profile or round pipe.
  3. Solid wood.
  4. Plywood.

The above materials can be used both individually and in combination. So, a metal bed can be equipped with wooden backs, and a plywood product is assembled on a timber frame. There can be many options, and you can figure it out in more detail by reading the article.

Location

The first step is to clearly determine what the dimensions of the future bed will be, taking into account its location. It is possible that you are modernizing the bedroom, changing its design, then you can move away from the usual patterns of placing the bed and find a new place for it. If so, check out a number of tips to help you do this.

  • Do not install the bed with the headboard to the window opening, as there will be a draft when the window is open, and the head can be blown out.
  • If you place the bed with the headboard to the doorway, then you will not be able to see the one who enters the bedroom.
  • Better that there is no chandelier hanging over the bed. She can break off and fall on a person lying in bed.
  • In non-insulated houses, the outer walls are very cold, so it is better not to put the bed in such places.
  • A shelf that is not securely nailed to the wall above your head can cause a lot of trouble too.
  • In a narrow bedroom, the bed located in the center of the room will not allow you to move freely. In addition, this arrangement can cause discomfort.
  • Many people leave room for a laptop at the headboard. Note that this "thief of time" will deprive you in this case of many hours of good rest.

You might get the impression that there is absolutely no room for a bed in the bedroom, but this is not the case. We just gave recommendations, and you yourself decide how relevant they are in your case.

Wood bed

Don't be fooled by the seeming simplicity of the design. We need to tune in to the fact that it will take a lot of work to make a bed from solid wood. If you are determined, then there is every chance to do something original, while saving money. It is quite natural that it is not easy to immediately decide on the design of the bed, so first, look at a few photos of wood products.

Photo of wooden beds

Having chosen the product you like, you can find a similar drawing on the Internet or draw it yourself, taking into account the dimensions of the room and personal preferences. Often, home craftsmen take the drawing of the bed and redo it for themselves, deleting or adding something.

From an array

If you are not going to sleep on boards, then when planning the size of the bed, you need to take into account the dimensions of the mattress. If it has not yet been purchased, then you need to take care of this in advance or find out on selling sites standard sizes and start from this data. If you are planning to make a bed of non-standard sizes, it is important to know that the mattress will have to be made to order.

A custom-made mattress will cost a little more.

It is clear that in a relatively short article it will not be possible to describe the manufacture of several wooden beds, and we do not strive for this. Based on the given example, it will be possible to understand how to assemble a bed from an array.

Let's consider an example of making a wooden bed for a 200 × 160 cm mattress, if there are a minimum of tools - only the most necessary ones.

The actual dimensions of the mattress often differ from those declared by the manufacturer, and in a smaller direction. Having purchased a mattress, measure it, and then adjust the dimensions of the bed to be made to it.

If there is no drawing with a bed suitable for the size of the mattress, then you can take any one you like as a basis, remaking it to fit your size. If the design is very simple, then you can draw a sketch yourself.

Let's say that after checking the dimensions of the mattress, it turned out that its length and width are one centimeter less than the declared ones - 199 × 159 cm. You will need the following material:

  • Beam 50 × 40 mm, length 209 cm - 19 pcs.
  • Planed board 22 × 100 mm, 159.5 cm long - 18 pcs.
  • PVA glue (furniture).
  • Self-tapping screws 41 and 65 mm.

Having a clear idea of the quantity and size of the required material, you can go to the store for it.

Making a frame

The frame can be assembled on the floor or on four stools.

So, we need to make a rectangle with internal dimensions of 200 × 160 cm, which corresponds to the dimensions of the mattress + 1 cm of tolerance. Each side of the frame will consist of three beams assembled into a single structure.

  • Of 19 pcs. of the purchased timber 40 × 50 mm, you need to choose 4 pcs. the most even and with minimum amount knots.
  • For further work, you need to cut off the excess at a right angle. With sufficient skills, you can mark the timber, and then, using the building corner, draw a cutting line. If you cannot cut straight with a hacksaw along the line, then it is better to use a miter box.
  • You should get 2 bars of 160 cm and 2 bars of 208 cm ( inner size bed length 200 cm + 2 blocks of 4 cm).
  • The cleanest side of the blocks will be used as the front (top of the bed), so we will lay the blocks down with this side.
  • You will need 4 more bars with the same dimensions. You also need to cut off 2 bars of 200 cm each, and 2 bars of 168 cm each (the inner size of the bed width is 160 cm + 2 bars of 4 cm).
  • To make the frame strong corner joints it is necessary to overlap, therefore, for the second row, bars of a different size are used, which we sawed out last.
  • Glue is applied to the bars of the first layer, and then the bars of the second row are laid and attracted with self-tapping screws. Excess glue must be removed immediately, otherwise it will interfere with the work on sanding the surface later.
  • Now the bars of the third row are attached in the same way.

  • Check that the corners of the bed are collected at a 90˚ angle. To do this, we will measure the dimensions of the assembled frame along the diagonals - they must be the same.
  • After the glue has dried, you can continue working.
  • Since our mattress is 159 cm wide, this size is quite large - the boards we use can bend. To eliminate this, in the center of the bed, from one back to the other, from below, you need to make a stiffener. To make it, you will need 2 bars 2 m long each. They are also fastened together and installed in the same plane with bottom beds. This can be clearly seen in the photo.

The bed being made has 4 legs located in the corners, but for safety reasons, you can set the fifth fulcrum in the center - then the base will definitely not bend.

  • The legs will be made of two 40 × 50 mm bars, fastened to each other. Their height is selected according to the preference of the owner so that they will be attached to the lower two bars.
  • After gluing and securing the legs with self-tapping screws, wait until the glue dries, and only then turn the bed over to the position in which it will now constantly be.

  • To make the base for the mattress along the sides of the bed frame, you need to fix the remaining 50 × 40 mm beam (or existing trimmings), since the boards will be attached to it. The bottom edge of the upper beam of the frame will serve as a reference point.
  • The width of the inner part of our product is 160 cm, therefore, in order to avoid the appearance of the board squeak, you can make 5 millimeters shorter - 159.5 cm (or slightly less).

  • Having sanded the boards, you need to lay them on the frame in such a way that they do not touch the sides of the walls of the frame, and fix them.
  • Since the self-tapping screws will be screwed in from the edge of the board, it will be necessary to drill holes in each board under them, using a thin drill for this.
  • As for the distance between the boards, we find it empirically. In our case, the length of the inner part of the bed is 200 cm. We will retreat from the edges by 5 mm. There are 199 cm left. Divide by 16 (the number of boards). 199/16 = 12.44 cm

  • If you need to get a greater distance between the boards, then you need to reduce their number and re-perform the calculations according to the scheme we have given.
  • Now you need to sand the entire structure. To do this, it is better to take the bed out of the room, as there will be a lot of dust.
  • It is convenient to use a grinder or a drill with a nozzle on which an emery cloth is attached. After mechanized processing, you need to complete the process by hand using a fine-grained emery cloth.

  • The bed must be primed and varnished in several steps, each layer is applied after the previous layer has dried. The job is best done with a spray gun. As a last resort, you can use a brush, but it is important to understand that the appearance of the applied coating will not be the same as when using a spray gun.

You may have noticed that we have 3 more boards left. We will make a back from them, as in the photo.

The height of the backrest is 45 cm, and the width is 170 cm, but this is not important, since it will not be one with the bed - we will fix it on the wall at the level with the mattress.

Its manufacture is not at all difficult. Three boards are sawn off at 170 cm each.Of the scraps, we make 11 boards of 45 cm each.If there are not enough boards of 45 cm each, then through one board you can screw 2 boards of 40‒42 cm. Just like the beds, the back must be given a presentable look by varnishing it.

The backrest can be hung on hooks, only in this case it will knock on the wall. More practical is to fix the backrest firmly to the wall. Now wooden bed can be used.

Chipboard bed: step by step instructions

Manufacturing structures from chipboard can seem very difficult due to the nature of this material. If you cut, grind and glue the edge at home, then some difficulties arise, especially with we will open the chipboard, as the decorative layer can be damaged. Many problems can be avoided by making a drawing in advance and ordering the production of parts in furniture shop... The only thing left to do at home is to assemble the structure.

This time we will look at the process of making a small single bed with two drawers. Here is an example of cutting a standard chipboard sheet for one bed.

From the remains of the stove, you can make shelves for books or something else that is needed on the farm.

So, we have a ready-made set of parts that need to be assembled to make a bed.

To get the job done, you need the following tool:

  • screwdriver;
  • drill (you can use a screwdriver instead);
  • jigsaw;
  • confirmation drill;
  • bit extender;
  • bits (cross and hex);
  • mallet;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • awl;
  • roulette.

You will also need consumables:

  • Confirmates - 50 pcs.
  • Stickers or plugs for confirms - 50 pcs.
  • Self-tapping screws 3.8 × 45 mm - 15 pcs.
  • Self-tapping screws 3.5 × 30 mm - 30 pcs.
  • Self-tapping screws 3.5 × 16 mm - 40 pcs.
  • Furniture corner - 12 pcs.
  • Linear roller - 8 pcs.
  • Wide furniture handles - 2 pcs.
  • Plastic legs - 12 pcs.
  • Bar 20 × 45 mm (3 m) - 3 pcs.

Now let's start assembling.

Since the mattress will be 200 × 70 cm, we will fit the existing slats to the width of the mattress, making them 70 cm long. As a result, there will be 12 of them.

On ten slats on one side, you need to fix the corners.

First, we will make boxes that can be pushed under the bed. The first step is to assemble the frame. To do this, we will lay out the workpieces so that the part pasted over with the edge is at the top. When assembling, it is important not to mix up the sides. Well, if the edge is not glued to the end of the inner part, then you will not mix it up. If the edges of the parts are pasted over in a circle (which is wrong), then you need to try to fold the box without twisting it, and then attach the bottom. After making sure everything matches, you can start assembling.

Having departed from the lower (or upper) edge of about 3 cm, you need to drill a hole with a confirmation drill. This must be done carefully, since one awkward movement - the part will be damaged. The thickness of the chipboard is 16 mm, so we retreat 8 mm from the edge of the workpiece, drill a hole slightly with cores and without the slightest deviation.

If you have never assembled furniture from chipboard, then first practice on unused leftovers of the sheet.

By connecting the parts, we get such a box.

In order to fasten the bottom, eight confirmations are enough - 2 on each side. These boxes are not designed to hold very heavy items, because the plastic rollers are not designed for this.

It remains to attach the handle and install the rollers. One box is ready, now the second is being assembled in the same sequence.

Putting the finished boxes aside, let's start assembling the bed. Since boxes will be installed on one side, you need to put together 3 parts, using 3 confirmations on each side.

As a result, we will have such a "bench".

Now let's collect decorative box, thanks to which the mattress will be fixed. This part is not as high as the base of the bed, so 2 confirmations will be used on each side.

We put the resulting frame on the bed frame so that it does not interfere with the pull-out of the drawers, and we connect them together from the inside with self-tapping screws 3.5 × 30 mm.

You need to nail down the plastic legs.

Let's start making ribbing. On the front of the frame, draw a line from one edge to the other along the height of the bed frame. Now we will fix the bars with the corners screwed to them every 13 cm, so that their lower part is set along the line.

Instead of ribbing from boards, you can use a cut-to-size chipboard slab.

After that, it will remain with 30 mm self-tapping screws to screw the bars to the opposite sidewall.

Once you roll up the drawers and put the mattress down, you can start using the bed.

As you can see, with the right approach, it will not be difficult to assemble a bed from chipboard at home. The design can be of any size, as in the following video.

Video: we make a double bed podium from chipboard

Pallet bed

Nowadays, beds made from pallets are in vogue. At first glance, it may seem that this kind of design would be appropriate only in some provincial dacha, but this is not the case, because pallet beds can also be found in houses with a fairly rich environment.

Let's move on from words to deeds. Consider one of the options for assembling a bed from pallets. How many will you need? It all depends on the size and design of the manufactured product. So, a single bed with legs can be made from 2 pallets, and without legs - from 4. We used 8 pallets to make our double bed.

If there is such an opportunity, then you need to choose as much as possible whole pallets. They need to be sanded.

All pallets should be painted using non-toxic wood paint. Since wood is very hygroscopic, most likely, the pallets will need to be opened with paint 2-3 times.

If there is such a desire, then you can open the blanks with varnish.

Having laid the first row of pallets, it is necessary to fasten them together. If the wood is very strong, then holes are drilled under the screws.

Then the second row is laid.

All pallets are fastened together with metal plates, are fixed with self-tapping screws for wood.

Thanks to this simple technology, you can make a pretty decent bed from pallets.

The backrest can also be made of pallets.

From the remnants of pallets, you can collect some kind of furniture, and install it near the bed. In general - who likes what.

Plywood

You won't surprise anyone with a plywood product, but you can make furniture out of it at home. We will use sheets of the FSF brand, since not all plywood is suitable for making a bed.

Consider an example of making a bed for a box-spring mattress 1900 × 900 × 200 mm.

Materials for making a bed

The thickness of the plywood used can be 12, 15 or 18 mm. Thin sheets can be used when fastening plywood with screws. Of 18 mm plywood, the bed will be more durable, but very heavy, so it is preferable to use 15 mm sheets - they are much stronger than standard chipboard.

  • Plywood 2.44 × 1.22 m - 1 sheet.
  • Beam 30 × 40 mm - 2 pcs. 1.9 m each.
  • Beam 30 × 40 mm - 7 pcs. 0.9 m each.
  • If the edges of the parts need to be pasted over, then buy a PVC edge. Its consumption will be no more than 8 p / m.
  • Moment glue - 1 tube.
  • Screws 5 × 40 mm - 26 pcs.
  • Screws 5 × 60 mm - 12 pcs.
  • Screws 3 × 9 mm - 8 pcs.
  • Foot pads - 4 pcs.

As for the tools, they are the same as for working with chipboard. Instead of screws, you can use wood screws.

The side wall of the back of the bed has big sizes in height. This is done so that the drawers being pushed under the bed do not hit the walls. If there are no boxes, then the side walls can be made the same.

Making a bed

From the existing sheet of plywood, you need to cut out the parts corresponding to the drawing.

If desired, you can use film faced plywood. In this case, it is important to take into account that it is very difficult to cut such a sheet at home without damaging the laminated coating. Also, sweat edges in mandatory will need to be pasted over with furniture edge.

To cut plywood, you need to use a file with a fine tooth, and lead the jigsaw slowly - this way we will get an even cut without chips. As a result, we should get parts of the following dimensions:

  1. Front back - 932 × 650 mm.
  2. Backrest - 932 × 500 mm.
  3. Front side panel - 1900 × 200 mm.
  4. Rear side panel - 1900 × 350 mm (if without cabinets, then we also make 1900 × 200 mm).
  • The ends of all parts must be sanded. To do this, you can use a small wooden block wrapped with medium-grit emery cloth.
  • After that we assemble the bed frame.

Base for the bed

  • The backrests are attached to the side plates with 5 × 40 mm screws (2 for each front side, and 3 for the back).
  • Then we fasten the timber to the side rails of the bed using screws 5 × 40 mm (7 pcs per side). The head of the screws should be slightly recessed into the timber. If you drive deeper, then the screw will go right through the plywood.
  • We fix the crossbeams from the timber on horizontal bars self-tapping screws 5 × 60 mm (1 for each point).
  • Using screws 5 × 40 mm, screw the bars to the backs from the inside (3 screws for each).
  • At the last stage, we screw the thrust bearings from the bottom to the backs - 2 screws 3 × 9 mm each.
  • We set up the bed, lay the mattress and use our product.

If you use a soft mattress instead of a spring mattress on the frame, then you need to cut the bottom out of plywood and screw it to the bars from above.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in making a bed from plywood.

Made of metal

If you have some skills as a welder, you can make a metal bed. We will not even consider the option of a bolted connection, since such a product looses very quickly.

Look at the photo of a collapsible metal bunk bed. Agree that it looks very presentable.

For its manufacture, the following materials were needed:

  • Profile pipe 50 × 25 mm - 8 m.
  • Profile pipe 40 × 40 mm - 8 m.
  • Profile pipe 20 × 20 mm (or 15 × 15) - 40 m.

In addition to pipes, a metal primer and hammer paint were purchased.

One of the advantages of such a bed is the absence of bent parts, so a pipe bender is not needed to make it.

If you buy pipes, and do not use those that have been in the garage for several years, then do not opt for rusty ones, since then they will need to be cleaned for a long time.

Frame making

Since the bed is collapsible, you can make parts of it in parts. Let's start with the backs.

  • The base will be pipes 40 × 40 mm. We cut them into equal parts of 2 m.If the ceilings are low, then they can be reduced to 185 cm.
  • The width of our backs will be 90 cm, so we will cut off 8 identical pieces of 82 cm each (90- (4 + 4) = 82) from the 20 × 20 mm pipe, and 8 pipes of 30 cm each.
  • For now, we will use only half of the prepared material.
  • On a flat plane parallel to each other, you need to lay the rack pipes.
  • Having retreated from the bottom 40 cm and from the edge 1 cm, a pipe with a length of 82 cm is grabbed.
  • It is necessary to check the correctness of the set angles with a building corner.
  • After 95 cm, the second pipe is caught.
  • We return to the first one, and on the tacks we assemble the lattice - 2 pipes 30 cm each and a crossbar 82 cm.
  • We do the same with the second lattice.
  • After checking the angles and alignment of the stuck parts, they can be welded thoroughly.
  • The second back is made in the same way.

Now let's start making shelves.

  • We also cut the profile pipe 50 × 25 mm into 4 equal parts of 2 m each.
  • The width of the shelves will be 88 cm, so we need 26 pieces of pipe 20 × 20 mm, 83 cm each (88- (2.5 + 2.5) = 83).
  • 2 pipes are placed on the edge parallel to each other.
  • Mark 13 cm from the edges and grab one jumper at a time, placing them along the bottom edge.
  • We lay out the remaining 11 jumpers every 14 cm and grab them.
  • After checking, the shelf is scalded, and the second is assembled in the same way.
  • To the shelf that will be installed at the top, it is necessary to weld a fence of the same height as the height of the lattice on the back. The pipe used for the fence should be bent and not welded at an angle. If there is no pipe bender, then you can fill it with sand and bend it in a vice or between two supports. This pipe must be welded in the middle of the bed, as in the photo.

  • In the same way, 3 more are welded vertical posts, but it will not be welded to the back, so you need to weld a small bar from the end.

The time has come to put the structure together, for this we will use welding a little more.

Since our bed is collapsible, we will make universal fasteners for it.

  • From a 20 × 20 mm pipe, you need to cut off 16 pieces of 10 cm each and weld to the backs at the joining point.
  • Each attachment point uses 2 tubes. They are inserted into the grille tube and clipped to the backrest. If this is not done, then later it will not be possible to assemble the bed, since the attachment points will not coincide.
  • After checking the correct location of the part, we thoroughly weld the tubes to the back.

  • With the help of a grinder, it is necessary to process the welding seams.

Assembly

  • Now let's put together the bed.
  • In order for the collapsible parts to hold together securely, they will need to be secured with self-tapping screws (after final assembly).

It is also necessary to make a small ladder, the dimensions of which can be arbitrary.

  • We attach it to the shelves with bolts and nuts.

  • At the final stage of work, the entire structure is disassembled, degreased, primed and painted.
  • Once the paint has dried, the bed can be brought into the house and reassembled.
  • To close the ends of the pipes, specially designed plastic plugs are purchased for this.

If the bed is made for children, then its length can be significantly reduced.

As you can see, at home you can make a beautiful and durable metal bed.

Making decorative elements

If you want to do something original, then when making a bed instead of standard shaped pipes you can use forging elements.

Such parts are sold in specialized stores or made to order. Good results can be achieved using bent parts, and you can bend them yourself.

Bed legs

A person may have the wrong opinion that the legs of a metal bed will look rough. If you set a goal, then this element can also be made very attractive.

Choice of design

The wrong bed can cause a lot of inconvenience. Here are some tips from experts in the field:

  1. It is best if the bed is made from natural materials. When using chipboard, plywood, laminate and other materials with synthetic additives (glue, etc.), the products must be certified, intended for the manufacture of furniture.
  2. The size of the bed matters a lot. One bedroom can be 100, 90 or 80 cm wide, and a double one - 200, 180 and 160 cm. If there are no restrictions on the size of the room, then you need to act on the principle - the more the better. The length of the bed should be 20 cm longer than the person's height (at least 10 cm).
  3. Structures made of chipboard (and chipboard) are the most unreliable and fragile.
  4. A solid bed base prevents the mattress from ventilating, but too little ribbing can cause the mattress to deform.

Since we are talking about a mattress, there are nuances of choice here.

  1. The mattress should not be hard. It should be soft enough, but not deform too much under the weight of the person lying on it, so it must be selected individually. For a double bed, you can choose 2 mattresses of different elasticity. To make sure that the mattress is right for you, you need to lie on it for 15-20 minutes before buying.
  2. If you have purchased a hard mattress, then you can put a thick mattress topper on it, for the manufacture of which latex or memoriform is used (from 3 to 10 cm thick). If you have not decided on the choice, then it is better to purchase a mattress with double-sided rigidity.

Concerning design features beds, it is a matter of personal preference and convenience. In a small room, you can place a bed, under which there will be drawers, folding or sliding from the podium. V big room you can give free rein to imagination by making a wide bed.

One-bed

A single bed is installed in cases where it is planned that only one person will sleep on it, be it a child or an adult. Also, 2 or more beds can be installed in one room, for example, for two children. Be that as it may, first you need to decide which design is suitable, and then start manufacturing. Photos of homemade single beds can help with this.
