Useful properties of Ivan tea, contraindications for use. Do Ivan tea flowers brew, the beneficial properties of the herb

Mother nature gave people many plants that are able to maintain health and treat various ailments. Unfortunately, pharmacy drugs are so actively promoted and advertised that people often do not bother to ask and learn about those natural healers that grow right under their feet, do not contain any "chemistry" and do not require fabulous money to be able to use them. Meanwhile, there are a lot of such medicinal plants. One of them is Ivan tea, the properties, use and contraindications of which are discussed in this article.

Name

The plant is considered mysterious, about which there are legends. It is called differently, depending on the area where it grows. For example, the names "Kuril tea", "Koporsky tea" and, of course, the famous "Ivan tea" are known. Scientifically, it is narrow-leaved fireweed.

The origin of the name "Ivan-tea" has different versions. According to one of them, he was widely known among the peoples Far East, where it was used as a cure for male problems. Therefore, it received such a name. Another version is more mercantile: according to it, merchants mixed fireweed leaves into black tea, thus increasing their profits.

Consider what the herb willow tea is, medicinal properties and contraindications, as well as recipes for its use.

Description

This plant is known to everyone since childhood. It stands out with pink flowers in the meadow. Some types of fireweed can be confused with each other (for example, hairy fireweed cannot be consumed), so it is important to know exactly what Ivan tea looks like. Its beneficial properties are contained in the whole plant. Even the roots can be used as medicine. But the flowers and leaves are the most valuable.

When dried, it acquires a taste. Therefore, from the beginning of the nineteenth century, it easily replaced expensive teas from China and India. They drank it much more often than kvass, fruit drink, sbiten and broth. But for some reason, over time, they forgot about it.

Composition

This medicinal plant contains a large number of tannins, especially in its leaves and roots. It also contains tannins (which are derivatives of tannin), pyragol (from ten to twenty percent). It is known that crushed leaves are more useful than whole ones. This is due to the combined effect of plant mucus, the percentage of which reaches fifteen, and tannins.

In addition, Ivan-tea contains flavonoids such as kaempferol and quercetin, as well as organic acids, which contain vitamins of the P group.

Where does it grow

In almost all latitudes, Ivan-chai grass is found. Medicinal properties and contraindications are known to healers, wherever they live. The main places where this grass grows are meadows, roadsides and forest edges, that is, it prefers sunny and open areas.

Its height reaches one and a half meters, turning the plant into pleasant bushes with pink flowers. Then you can start collecting it. In the middle lane, this time begins from the end of June and continues until the beginning of autumn, when Ivan tea, narrow-leaved fireweed, is harvested.

The beneficial properties of the plant, however, are not known to everyone. Sometimes, when he appears in the garden, they try to get rid of him like an ordinary weed, instead of using it as medicine or just a drink.

Fireweed narrow-leaved is distinguished by its special endurance. For example, it may be the first to grow after a fire. But in damp and damp places, on acidic and loamy soils will not appear.

Collection and preparation

Only one encouraging aroma will cause a surge of strength and energy if you accidentally find Ivan-tea grass somewhere on the edge of a forest or lawn! Its medicinal properties and contraindications, in addition to a pleasant smell, have long been known. Therefore, many decide to grow a plant purposefully. It is quite possible to implement the idea, since it is unpretentious, not afraid of any drought and, moreover, will bring out the weeds.

Its leaves and flowers are harvested before the start of downy (which usually occurs from mid to late August), otherwise they will become unusable. Harvesting willow-tea is quite simple for medicinal purposes. But if it is going to be used as tea, then the leaves, in addition to drying, must be fermented. Then the taste will improve significantly.

When harvesting, flowers are simply plucked from the inflorescences and placed in large bags, and the leaves are best used from the middle of the stem, without capturing the lower and upper ones.

In an open room, the plant is dried in the shade or in the sun, spreading out evenly in a thin layer on paper or cloth. It is advisable to stir the raw material from time to time by hand.

The prepared drug is stored in paper bags or fabric bags for up to two years.

Ivan-tea grass is also sometimes dried in the oven.

Before tea first appeared in Russia, our ancestors drank herbal infusions. The herb Ivan-chai was especially popular, information about the beneficial properties of which even went down in history: it is absolutely known that the prepared infusion was served at the prince's table and sent abroad in dried form.

The genus Ivan-tea includes perennial herbaceous plants that belong to the Cyprian family. In the genus, biologists have fourteen species, among which the most famous is Ivan-tea narrow-leaved or fireweed.

Fireweed grows in the temperate latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, including in the subarctic and arctic regions. Grass Ivan-chai is a light-loving plant, therefore it prefers to grow in open areas, sandy soil, on the edges of coniferous forests, and appears one of the first on land damaged by clearings and fire. At night, fireweed needs high humidity air, so another condition for its appearance is the presence of rivers, streams, lakes, peat bogs, forests near it.

Such requirements for the terrain are not accidental, since they allow the plant not to die even in forty-degree heat: despite the fact that during the day, under the influence of temperature, the leaves of the plant wilt and fade strongly, during the night, due to moist air, they leave and become strong and stiff in the morning.

Grass prefers to grow away from trees and shrubs (an exception is made only for raspberries): the seeds of the plant are so weak that they absolutely cannot tolerate competition from many plants. That is why, as soon as bushes and trees begin to populate its territory, fireweed dies out (therefore, experts always advise taking into account the characteristics of the area where Ivan-chai grows when sowing this herb).

Name etymology

Ivan-tea, in addition to the main one, has a large number of names, among them the most popular are Willow-grass and Willow-grass, which, like the main name, appeared due to the similarity of the leaves of the plant with willow leaves.

There is another story about why the herb is called Ivan-chai. Here, the red-violet hue of the flower has already played its role: the plant was named so in honor of the young man who always walked in a red shirt and almost never left the fields. Therefore, when someone saw a red spot among the greenery, he said: "This is Ivan, tea, wandering."

Description

The length of willow-grass is from 50 to 200 cm. It can be identified only by one description of red-violet, white, purple or pale pink flowers collected in tassels.

The stem of the plant is straight, like that of any grass, not subject to lignification. It has no branches, densely strewn with pointed leaves, the length of which ranges from 4 to 12 cm and from 0.6 to 2 cm in width. Leaves are matte dark green above, light green or reddish below.

Fireweed has a thick creeping rhizome, from which smaller roots diverge, while additional buds develop on those that are near the surface of the earth, contributing to rapid vegetative reproduction.

The length of the roots may well be several kilometers, and they can grow up to ten years. Due to the dead shoots of fireweed, a fertile layer of soil begins to form, which is gradually populated by other plants, gradually displacing fireweed from their place of residence.

Bloom

Fireweed begins to bloom in the second half of summer and the flower does not fade for a month. The diameter of one flower is about three centimeters, it usually has four petals and, together with the rest of the flowers, forms an inflorescence, the length of which is from 10 to 45 cm. One flower has four short and the same number of long stamens. The pistil has a long lower ovary, a column bent downwards, and has a fleshy nectary at the base.

Fireweed fruits look like pod-shaped fluffy, slightly curved boxes about nine centimeters long, inside of which there are many seeds (from 10 to 30 thousand oblong grains with thin white hairs can be obtained from one plant).

Each seed is attached to a parachute fluff, and when the fruit ripens, under the influence of air masses, it is quite capable of flying hundreds of kilometers from the mother plant.

Application

The recipe for brewing willow grass was not only passed down from generation to generation for many centuries, but was also a family secret, so it is not surprising that the history of the appearance of many infusions and decoctions is unique and there are a great many recipes on how to make a drink. Moreover, people have long noticed beneficial features plants (another answer to the question of why fireweed was so popular in Russia).

To create a delicious decoction, willow-grass leaves were first dried, then scalded with boiling water, after which they were ground in mortars, laid out on baking sheets and dried in ovens. The plant was used not only as a drink, but also salads and soups were prepared from fresh leaves, fresh roots replaced cabbage, and flour was ground from dried ones. People also found use for the fluff of fireweed fruits: they spun it, knitted scarves and even stuffed pillows, and ropes were made from the stem fibers.
