How to warm up frozen propylene and plastic pipes? How to heat water in a plastic water pipe underground How to defrost a metal pipe underground

V winter period freezing water and heating pipes are a common problem. This can happen if the required standards were not observed during the laying of the pipeline and technological standards were violated. Regardless of the root cause of the problem, the question arises: how to unfreeze water pipe?

Let's consider some of the causes of ice jams in the water supply system:

  • the water supply was laid at insufficient depth;
  • incorrectly performed work on thermal insulation of pipes;
  • the diameter of the pipes was chosen incorrectly;
  • worn out pipes.

How to prevent water pipes from freezing

  • when laying water pipes, it is necessary to take into account the depth of freezing of the soil in a given area and dig a trench below this level;
  • the pipeline should be placed away from concrete and reinforced concrete structures, since they are prone to freezing stronger than the soil;
  • at the points of entry of pipes into the building should be done good thermal insulation, most often, mineral and glass wool is used;
  • it is better if the diameter of the outer pipes is more than 50 mm - the more water in the pipe, the longer it will freeze;
  • The piping can be done with an electrical cable that will heat pipes at dangerously low temperatures.

If it was not possible to prevent freezing, you should start defrosting the water supply.

This can be done in several ways, all of them can be divided into two categories:

  1. Exposure outside.
  2. Warming up from the inside.

Regardless of the choice of the method for defrosting pipes, several rules must be observed:

  • it is necessary to determine as accurately as possible the frozen section of the pipe and its length;
  • all shut-off valves must be open so that the thawed water has an outlet;
  • it is necessary to start heating the pipe from the open tap and then to the riser;
  • sewer pipes, on the other hand, are heated from the riser in the direction of the septic tank.

Methods for defrosting a water supply system through exposure to the outside

In such cases, a prolonged heating of the pipe surface is carried out and further heat exchange between the pipe itself and the ice inside.

Boiling water or just hot water. The frozen section of the pipe is wrapped with foam rubber or rags that absorb water and poured with boiling water, constantly maintaining a high temperature of the rags or foam rubber, and, accordingly, the pipe. This method is used on open areas pipeline: in basements, at the entrance to a building, etc. Well suited for metal pipes, as metal is an excellent heat conductor.

Building hair dryer. The pipe is heated by hot air. It is necessary to blow the pipe from all sides. In order not to lose heat, something like a pavilion can be made around the pipe, for example, from plastic film... When heating a plastic pipe in this way, it is important to carefully monitor the heating process so that the pipeline does not melt. If the freezing area of the pipe is small, a conventional fan heater or household hair dryer will do. If the pipe has bends, constrictions, fittings inlets, they also need to be warmed up.

Blowtorch or gas torch... This method requires special attention due to the high risk of fire.

Electric heating cable or electric heating tape. The safest and equally effective way to defrost pipes. The cable must be wound around the pipe in a spiral and connected to a power source. This method is only suitable for open pipes.

Defrosting machine or welding transformer... Two wires, positive and negative, are connected to different ends of the frozen section of the metal pipe, the electric current heats up the water and the ice plug melts. The time it takes to warm up metal water pipes with a welding transformer is minimal.

Methods for defrosting a water supply system through exposure from the inside

All of the above methods are good for metal pipes, but little for plastic. Therefore, there are methods "from the inside". The most important thing is to find the nearest detachable connection in order to disconnect the frozen section from the remaining line.

Two-core copper wire ... The principle of operation is similar to that of a boiler. Wire strands are separated and exposed. Then each must be twisted into a small spiral (from 3 to 5 turns), it is better to make one core a little shorter so that the spirals do not touch and there is no short circuit. Next, the wire must be brought into the pipe and plugged into the outlet. Electric current passing through the water will warm it up well.

Hot water... A laborious process that requires patience, but with minimal cost... The hose must be thinner than the pipe. It is inserted into the disconnected pipe until it stops in the ice plug and is filled hot water... As the ice melts, the hose moves forward. Be sure to need a container for thawed water. On straight sections of the pipeline, it is better to use a metal-plastic pipe; when bending, a flexible hose is more suitable: gas or oxygen.

"Esmarch's Circle" is a popular enema. In addition to it, a rigid wire and a hose from the hydraulic level. The wire is attached to the tube (with tape, electrical tape, whatever), the Esmarch mug is connected to the water level tube on one side, and the other is pushed into the water pipe to ice plug... Further, the mug is raised higher and hot water is poured into it. As the ice thaws, the hydraulic level hose must be pushed further until it is completely defrosted. This method is suitable for underground pipes.

Special equipment for preventive flushing of water and sewer pipes. There are utilities, you can call specialists at home.

All methods of defrosting pipes have their own advantages and disadvantages and take a lot of time. To avoid possible problems with plumbing, it is better to adhere to all technological norms for laying pipes in advance.

This video shows how pipes are defrosting with a burner:

Here's how you can steam defrost a water pipe:

Winter frosts are a test that has to withstand not only living beings, but also engineering communications.

In case of violation of the rules for laying pipelines in winter time often they freeze and then in full height there will be a problem, how to defrost the water pipe?

Reasons for freezing water in pipes

As a rule, the reason for the freezing of water in pipes is an elementary violation of the technology for installing a water supply system. For example, if the pipes were laid without taking into account the depth of soil freezing in the area.

Or the requirement to insulate pipes was ignored. It happens that pipes freeze not only in external networks, but also in a room if there is no heating in it.

How to avoid freezing of pipes?

In order not to require defrosting of water pipes, care should be taken to ensure that the following requirements are met during the installation of the pipeline:

  • When laying the pipeline underground, ditches should be dug to a depth that exceeds the level of soil freezing in the area.
  • It is not necessary to lay a water supply pipeline near reinforced concrete structures. The fact is that the coefficient of thermal conductivity of concrete exceeds that for soil, that is, when pipes are laid in the immediate vicinity of reinforced concrete elements, the probability of water freezing in pipes increases.
  • It is advisable to install pipelines complete with a heating cable.
    This, of course, will lead to a rise in the cost of installation, but it will forever get rid of the problem of freezing.
  • In places where the pipeline passes through the wall of the building, glass wool insulation should be used to avoid direct contact of the pipe with the wall.
  • In pipes of small diameter, water freezes more often, therefore, for a water supply, it is advisable to use pipes with a diameter of 50 mm or more.
  • When laying pipelines in unheated rooms and outdoors, it is best to use polyethylene pipes. Such pipes tolerate freezing and defrosting well, in contrast to polypropylene pipes, which can become unusable if they freeze once or twice.
  • If the water supply or sewerage system is supposed to be used only periodically (for example, in the country), then during the downtime, it is advisable to completely free the system from water so that there is nothing to freeze.

Methods for defrosting metal pipes

There are several ways. They will be described below.

But when choosing any of them, you should adhere to the following general rules:

  • When reheating pipes, keep the water tap open to allow defrosted water to escape.
  • It is forbidden to make a sharp heating of the frozen section of the pipe, starting from its middle.
  • Heating is carried out from the water tap towards the riser. But if it requires to warm the sewer pipes, then you need to move in the opposite direction, that is, from the riser to the water intake point.
  • Pipe heating should be started after the location of the frozen section has been assessed. This will help you choose the right defrosting method.

All methods can be divided into two large groups, these are:

  • Methods based on external impact on the pipe.
  • Methods with internally defrosting.

Consider how to defrost water pipes using external influences.

This will require the use of some kind of heating device, it can be:

  • Blowtorch;
  • Building hair dryer;
  • Electric heating device.

Fire safety precautions should be taken when using a blowtorch indoors.

In particular, a metal screen should be installed behind the pipe to protect the walls.

Using any of the listed devices, one should methodically act on the pipe. The success of the measures taken will be evidenced by the water that will appear from the supply valve.

It should not be forgotten that when water freezes, it expands in volume, so there is a high probability that steel pipes will be damaged after freezing.

After the water is warmed up, you should carefully inspect the pipeline for leaks.

The safest and most effective way defrosting pipes by external exposure, is the use of a heating electric tape or heating cable.

In this case, you just need to wind the tape on the frozen area and connect it to the network.

For defrosting steel pipes you can also use this method: a welding machine is taken and connected to different ends of the frozen area.

As a result, the pipe heats up. Using welding machine the whole process takes 2-4 hours, depending on the length of the frozen section.

How to defrost a plastic pipe?

V Lately steel pipes for a water supply system are used less and less; they were replaced by plastic pipes. Such pipes do not corrode and do not collapse if water freezes in them.

However, when an ice plug appears in them, practically all methods of external influence cannot be applied to them. Naturally, using open fire for heating the plastic will lead to the destruction of the pipe, and the use of construction hair dryer, often turns out to be ineffective, since plastic does not conduct heat well.

It is also completely useless to connect a welding machine to such pipes, since the pipes do not conduct electric current.

The mechanical method of action, that is, the elimination of the ice plug by introducing a steel bar inside, can be effective in small area freezing, however, its use poses a serious risk of damaging the pipe.

Thus, if necessary, defrosting plastic pipes remains the only way- the use of hot water poured inside.

Below are several ways to defrost plastic pipes. All of them are quite effective, however, it is advisable to use them only on small-diameter pipelines.

The first defrosting method is to supply hot water to the freezing point.

This is done like this:

  • To defrost a plastic pipe, prepare a pipe or hose of high stiffness with a smaller diameter.

To remove the ice block in a pipe with a diameter of 20-30 mm, a pipe or hose with a diameter of 16 mm should be used.

  • If the damaged section of the pipeline is straight, then it is more convenient to use metal-plastic pipe... In the event that the frozen pipeline has bends, the use of a hose is required.

Conventional irrigation hoses are not suitable for this operation. The fact is that they soften greatly under the influence of hot water, so pushing them further will be problematic.

For defrosting, use gas or oxygen hoses.

  • Reinforced-plastic pipes are sold, as a rule, coiled in coils. Therefore, the pipe should first be unbent, and then begin to advance through the pipeline, pushing the ice plug all the way.
  • Now you can pour hot water into the pipe, trying to maintain the highest possible temperature.
  • The thawed water will flow out at the point where the pipes are connected, so a collection container should be placed there.
  • As the ice melts, the plastic pipe will need to be pushed further and further until the problem is completely eliminated.

This defrosting method is good if an ice block has formed in an area located near the pipe entrance. If the pipe is frozen far from the house and there are turns and bends in the pipeline section, then it will not work to push the pipe inside the pipeline.

  • To carry out the work, you will need a hydro level, a coil of steel wire, the diameter of which is 2-4 mm, and an Esmarch mug, that is, a device that is used in medicine to carry out cleansing enemas.
  • We take the hydrolevel tube and wrap it with wire, or attach the wire to the tube with tape or electrical tape. This must be done so that the wire does not stick out in different sides while the tip of the tube should protrude one centimeter.
  • Now we connect the second end of the hydraulic level tube to the outlet pipe of the Esmarch mug and start pushing our structure into the pipe.
  • Since the hydraulic damper tube has a small diameter and weight, there is no difficulty in pushing through, even if there are turns along the route.
  • Push the tube until the tube rests against the ice plug.
  • Now pour hot water into Esmarch's mug and open the supply valve.
  • As the ice plug decreases, the tube should be pushed further.
  • Place a suitable container at the pipe joint to collect the escaping water.

This defrosting method is quite effective, but it takes time. In one hour of work, you can have time to free about 0.8-1.0 m of the pipe from ice.

So, there are several fairly effective ways to help solve the problem of how to defrost water pipes. However, they are all laborious, so it is more correct to take the necessary measures, for example, when and to prevent the water from freezing in the pipeline.

In winter, there are frequent cases of freezing of water pipes in private houses. If the pipelines are laid underground, then most often the reasons are insufficient burial and insulation of the pipelines in combination with stagnation in the pipes. If pipes located in the walls freeze, then this phenomenon can occur due to very severe frosts. In any case, the home owner needs to know how to defrost water pipes in a private house. Below we will look at how to eliminate ice plugs in metal and plastic lines.

It is not enough to know how to defrost a pipe underground. First you need to find the immediate freezing point. This can be done in a simple and proven way. Shut off the water supply in the water supply system. After that, it is necessary to unscrew any detachable connection that is located after the crane. A plumbing cable is launched into the opened hole. It is gradually introduced into the pipeline until its end abuts against the ice plug.

This will be the freezing point. To mark its position on outside pipes, the cable can simply be applied to the ground for the same length as it entered the pipe. In this place, you should look for a place of freezing. In this simple way, you can find the right place in a pipe made of any material.

Methods for defrosting pipelines

Of no small importance when defrosting pipes is the material from which it is made. The methods of influencing the pipeline depend on this.

Defrosting metal pipes

Consider how to defrost metal water pipes in a private house. Usually they pass underground, so there are certain difficulties in digging trenches in winter, although their location in open areas is also possible. After the pipeline is exposed, it is affected in the following ways:

  • Use open flame... For example, from gas burner or blowtorch. You can also make a fire on a frozen section of the pipe;
  • A welding transformer is used. One wire from it is connected to one frozen section of the pipe, and the second wire to the second. The ice plug melts very quickly;
  • Pipes are watered with boiling water, after wrapping them with rags.

Important: During the defrosting process, the water taps must be kept open. This is necessary for the free flow of defrosted water from the pipes.

It is easier to defrost the sewer pipe, since all the melted ice will go down the drain, and the situation is the opposite with the water supply system. The released water will have nowhere to go, so it is advisable to disconnect the pipe from the taps, or at least open the taps.

How to defrost plastic pipes

Plastic pipes require more respect for themselves due to the lower strength of the material. Let's figure out how to defrost water in plastic pipe, which is in plain sight:

We examined the heating of an open section of the pipeline. How to defrost a plastic water pipe underground? There are also several ways to do this:

1. Hot water supply. The plastic pipe is detached from the tap. In some large container, for example, a barrel, water is heated. A hose with a smaller diameter is used, which freely enters the pipe. It is pushed inside the pipe until it reaches the frozen area. After that, hot water is supplied to the pipeline. This can be done by means of an injection pump.

The melted water will gradually flow out of the pipe along with the hot water supplied. The end of the hose should be pushed further and further until all the ice plug has been removed. After that, water will pour under strong pressure.

Tip: Plastic or metal-plastic pipes should be pre-insulated in open areas to avoid additional ice jams.

2. Application of a steam generator. The plastic pipe is detached from the taps. A special sleeve from the steam generator with a special nozzle at the end is introduced into it. It is injected until it reaches the frozen area. Steam is fed through the sleeve into the pipe, quickly melting the ice. As the frozen cork melts, the sleeve moves deeper into the pipe. With such a device, there is no question of how to defrost a pipe located in a wall or underground.

3. The use of electricity. This method works on the principle of heating water with a boiler. To do this, you need to stock up on a thick two-core wire of sufficient length. The veins are split. Each of them is released from the insulation and then twisted. Two thick twists are obtained, located at a distance of 1-2 cm from each other. The likelihood of their connection to each other should not be allowed to avoid a short circuit.

The wire is pushed inside the pipe to the place of the plug. After that, the end of the wire is connected to the mains. Ice melting occurs due to its heating with an electric current. In this case, the plastic walls do not heat up, since only the conductive water is heated. As the ice melts, the wire moves further along the pipeline.

4. Hydrodynamic cleaning. Any ice plug in the pipe can be removed with the jetting machine. Hot water is supplied to it under pressure through special attachment, which contributes to the destruction of ice in a very short time. As the cork breaks down, the hose with the nozzle moves further along the pipe. It should be noted that such equipment is mainly from specialists due to its high cost.

5. Another way to defrost the water pipe is shown in the photo.

Freezing prevention

We've looked at how to unfreeze polypropylene pipes(and pipes made of other types of plastic) or metal pipelines. Preventing pipelines from freezing is equally important. The occurrence of this unpleasant situation can be avoided if you adhere to some rules:

We have covered the main ways to get rid of ice plugs in water pipes. However, it is much easier to prevent water from freezing in pipelines than to fix problems later.

Russian winter frosts represent a familiar test not only for the inhabitants of our regions, but are also a serious test of durability for most categories of private and industrial communications.

In the event that, when laying the pipeline to the house during the period of its preparation for winter operation serious violations were made - sooner or later you will face the problem of freezing and, as a result, the need to familiarize yourself with how to unfreeze a water pipe.

Causes of water freezing in pipelines

As already noted, the most likely reason for the freezing of water in pipelines is gross violations of the following requirements for the order of their installation:

  • when laying pipes, such an important indicator as the depth of soil freezing in this area was not taken into account;
  • sufficient efforts were not taken to carry out external insulation of pipes laid openly or in special boxes;
  • insufficient measures were taken to insulate pipes at the entrance to an unheated room.

In order to avoid all of the above violations, you should take care in advance that the following conditions must be met when laying the pipeline:

  • In the case of underground pipeline wiring, it is necessary to prepare a ditch for it in such a way that the depth of the latter slightly exceeds the level of soil freezing in a given area.
  • It is advisable to lay a water supply line at a distance from the existing reinforced concrete structures, the thermal conductivity of which differs from the same indicator for the soil. In this case, the probability of water freezing in the pipelines is noticeably reduced.
  • It is recommended to lay pipelines together with a heating cable, which (despite the general increase in the cost of work) will finally remove the problem of pipes freezing.
  • The areas where the pipeline is routed through the walls of structures must be insulated with glass wool, which will avoid direct contact of the pipe with the wall.
  • To reduce the likelihood of pipes freezing, their diameter should be at least 50 mm.
  • When installing pipelines on outdoors and in unheated rooms it is recommended to use polyethylene pipes, which withstand several cycles of freezing and defrosting (for comparison, polypropylene pipes usually become unusable after 2 such cycles).
  • With seasonal use of the water supply for a while winter downtime it is necessary to completely drain the water from the system.

Defrosting methods

In this chapter, we will discuss some methods for defrosting pipes, taking into account the possible difficulties of their implementation. But regardless of the method of heating pipes you choose, in all cases, the following general rules must be observed:

  • In the process of warming up the pipes, the valve must be kept open so that the thawed water can flow freely from the pipeline.
  • It is undesirable to start defrosting the water supply system from its middle part.
  • The generally accepted order of heating is from the valve towards the riser. When working with sewer pipes the heating order is reversed (from the riser to the valve).

Everything known methods defrosting pipelines can be conditionally divided into methods of external influence on the heated area and methods of internal heating. First of all, we investigate the methods of heating pipes of a frozen water conduit due to external influence.

The simplest device that allows effective external defrosting of pipes is electrical cable, to heat which you need one of the devices indicated in the list below. This could be:

  • ordinary blowtorch (gas torch);
  • professional construction hair dryer;
  • device operating on the principle of electric heating (spiral from old slab, For example).

Using any of the devices discussed above, you can continuously act on the section of the pipeline to be defrosted. Evidence that, as they say, "the process has started" will be the appearance of a trickle of water at the outlet of the supply tap.

Note! The safest and most effective way of external defrosting of pipes is considered to be the use of a special heating cable or heating electric tape (In the latter case, it is enough to wind the tape or cable on the frozen section of the pipeline and connect them to the network).

If external defrosting of a pipeline made of steel pipes is necessary, the method of connecting the working ends of the welding machine to the boundaries of the frozen area is often used. In this case, the whole process of warming up will take you no more than 2-4 hours (depending on the length of the area to be defrosted). At the end of defrosting, be sure to inspect the pipeline for leaks, which can "appear" in the most unexpected places.

How to defrost a plastic pipe

Currently, traditional steel pipelines are everywhere replaced by modern water pipelines, assembled on the basis of plastic pipes, which are not subject to the usual corrosion for many and do not collapse when they freeze.

But in the case of the formation of an ice plug in the plastic, none of the methods of external influence listed by us is applicable to them. Indeed, the use of open fire to heat up a plastic pipe will cause its destruction, and the use of external heat heating (a building hair dryer, for example) turns out to be, as a rule, ineffective due to the poor thermal conductivity of the material.

All electrical methods for heating such pipes are also completely useless, since all types of plastic do not elementarily conduct an electric current. By means of mechanical action on the ice "jam" (by introducing a steel rod into the pipe), it is possible and possible to break through the plug small size, but at the same time there is a risk of damaging the walls of the plastic pipe.

From all that has been said, it follows that the only in a real way Defrosting a plastic pipe is pouring hot water inside the channel. We note right away that this technique is quite effective, but its use is advisable only on pipes of small diameter.

At this way defrosting, hot water is supplied directly to the freezing point as follows:

  • A pipe or hose is selected from a material of greater rigidity, but a slightly smaller diameter.
  • For defrosting a straight section of the pipeline, it will be more convenient to use a metal-plastic pipe. Well, in the case of a pipe section bent along an arbitrary curve, you will need to use a fairly rigid, but flexible hose smaller diameter.
  • In the course of the story, we note that typical watering hoses will not work for this operation, since they noticeably soften from hot water. Gas or oxygen welding hoses are best suited for defrosting.

The use of metal-plastic pipes

You will need reinforced-plastic pipes if the diameter of the frozen pipeline exceeds 20 mm. Before starting work, such a pipe should be carefully unbent, after which it will be possible to smoothly move it along the pipeline, bringing it all the way to the ice block.

After that, it will be possible to start pouring hot water into it, trying to maintain the temperature at a high level.

After a while, the thawed water will begin to flow out of the gap formed at the junction of the pipes; so in this place an arbitrary container should be installed to collect waste. As the congestion melts, the metal-plastic tube will be pushed more and more deeply into the freeze, until the ice plug is completely removed.

Note! The considered method is good for the case when an ice block formed near the point of entry of the probe into the pipe. In the same case, if the pipe is frozen at a great distance from the house and has many turns and bends, it is unlikely that it will be possible to push the metal-plastic pipe into it.

For such a situation, there is another way to defrost the pipeline - this is to use the Esmarch mug. When implementing this method, as a rule, the following manipulations are carried out:

  • First of all, any type of water level, a coil of 2-4 mm wire and an Esmarch mug (a device for cleansing enemas) are prepared.
  • Then the end of the hydraulic level tube is taken, to which the wire from the previously prepared bay is attached in one way or another. In this case, it is necessary to ensure that the tip of the wire is tightly pressed against the hydraulic level tube and does not interfere with its movement along the defrosting channel.
  • Also make sure that the tip of the tube protrudes 1 centimeter from where the wire is attached.
  • After that, we connect the counter end of the hydraulic level tube to the drain pipe of the Esmarch mug and begin to gently push the entire structure into the defrost pipe until it stops in the ice plug.
  • Now it will be necessary to pour boiling water into Esmarch's mug and fully open the water supply valve.
  • As the ice plug melts, you should push the tube in the direction of travel.
  • At the junction of the two pipes, you need to install a container of a suitable size.

The described method of defrosting the pipeline is quite effective, but it will require some time from you. In one full hour of work, you can free an area no longer than 0.8-1.0 meters from ice.

Low temperatures in winter are the reasons for unpleasant moments associated with the water supply at home. If you approach the laying of water pipes illiterately, then in winter the question is whether the water in a private house has frozen - what to do will be encountered quite often. Moreover, there are always situations associated with road accidents. This is a rupture of the pipe, if it is steel, a rupture of valves. And if this problem can be dealt with quickly in the summer with minimal costs, then in the winter everything becomes more complicated. Therefore, it is very important to first of all conduct correct installation... And the condition here is only one - to insulate the pipelines or lay it below the freezing level of the soil.

Home water supply froze

How to defrost pipes

It should be noted that the water supply network consists of two sections: external (external), it is most often both underground and internal. As for the latter, the main part of the route is laid inside heated premises, so the question is, the water in a private house is frozen over - what to do is not appropriate here. But partly the internal water supply also passes through unheated premises... For example, in the basement and in the attic. It is there that freezing of pipes can occur. How to defrost them?

There are several options. Let's take into account that plastic pipes were laid inside the house.

  • You can use hot water for defrosting. To do this, first, the pipe is wrapped with a rag, and only then boiling water is poured onto it. The process can take several hours, everything will depend on the length of the frozen area.

    Defrosting with hot water
  • You can use a hair dryer (construction or household). Very effective option, but requiring a certain approach to the process itself. The thing is, especially for a building hair dryer, that the air from the device comes out with a sufficiently high temperature that can melt the plastic. Therefore, it is necessary to precisely set the distance from the hair dryer nozzle to the surface of the pipe.
    We use a hairdryer
  • You can use a heating cable for defrosting, which is laid in an electric underfloor heating system or a special cable for plumbing systems. They wrap a frozen section of the track with it and plug it into an outlet. This is the most quick option... Usually in this way, you can defrost a fairly long water supply in 2-3 hours.

Attention! Before defrosting water in a private house, it is recommended that all shut-off valves open completely on the track. Defrost water must move freely through the pipeline and flow out of the taps.

Defrost pipes underground

It is clear that water pipes located in the ground are more difficult to defrost. The easiest of all the options is to excavate the place of their laying, get to the track and apply one of the above methods. But there are several problems with this.

  1. Digging the frozen ground is not easy. It will take a lot of time, effort and labor. In any case, the owner of the house cannot do this on his own.
  2. There is always the possibility that the plastic pipe could be damaged when digging a trench. And this is an additional problem that will have to be solved immediately.

Therefore, it is better to use alternative options. One of effective methods defrosting is the use of hot water. True, for this you have to prepare. First, you need a supply of water itself, which must be heated. The easiest way to do it without high costs- install a barrel under which to build a fire. Secondly, it is necessary to somehow organize the supply of water inside plumbing system... For this, it is best to install a small electric pump... It is even better if hot water is poured into a hose with a smaller diameter than the route, which will need to be pushed into the pipeline.

Defrosting a hot water pipe

That is, the hose is pushed to the ice plug, then hot water is pumped into it. It quickly melts the ice, and the hose must be pushed further as the track thaws. As soon as water flows out of the tap with a high pressure, that's it - the ice plug has melted. It should be noted that this option for defrosting a water supply system is one of the most effective. True, you prepare for it longer than you perform the process itself.

We use electricity

Another option that answers the question of how to heat water in a private house. For this, electricity is used. It is necessary to immediately make a reservation that the use electric current- business is always dangerous. Therefore, it is not recommended to use this option for defrosting the water supply system. But, as an alternative, you need to know it.

For this, an ordinary two-core wire is used, the cores of which must be disconnected and stripped for a length of 20 cm, that is, freed from insulation. The bare wire is twisted to a size of 8-10 cm.

Attention! Do not allow both bare wires to connect to each other. This will lead to a short circuit, so it is imperative to install a jumper between them, preferably a wooden one. Its size should be less than the diameter of the water pipe.

Now the prepared two-core wire is pushed into the pipeline up to the ice plug. After that, it is connected to a 220 volt supply network. The water inside the pipe begins to boil and defrost the ice. In fact, the bifurcated wire serves as heating element... As it defrosts, it will need to be moved inward.

We use steam

And a few more alternatives that use steam. It should be noted that they are rarely used only because steam generating installations are not cheap.

Steam generator

  • Using a steam generator. Its hose is introduced into the pipeline where steam is pumped.
  • Using an autoclave. This is an installation that works on the basis of boiling water. The process itself is exactly the same as in the case of a steam generator. That is, a hose is inserted into the water pipe, connected to the autoclave, through which steam from boiling water enters the inside of the line.
  • Using a hydrodynamic machine. This is a professional equipment, which is based on the process of heating water and supplying it under pressure inside the water supply line.

All three options are very effective. If the water entrance to the house or the entire route is frozen, then they can be used to warm up the pipes in a few minutes.

So, the answer was given to the question, the water in the house froze - what to do? The proposed technologies have a very simple ways, not requiring large expenses, there are quite serious options based on the use of special equipment... If the problem is not very big, then you can get by with small funds. If everything is very difficult, then it is better to call specialists. They will not only solve the problem of defrosting, but also help prevent further troubles.
