Old boards in the interior (100 photos): expressive surroundings with a vintage character. Wall decor ideas that do not require large expenses Rustic or suburban interior

Designers are increasingly using not ordinary wooden boards, but technological, beautiful and incredibly diverse - parquet. Let's talk about the features of parquet on the wall in the interior.

Features of wall decoration with parquet

Features of parquet

Let's start with the basics. A parquet board is a three-layer plank with a length of 1 to 2 m, a width of 180-200 mm, and a thickness of 14-22 mm. Its top layer is made from valuable species, and the next two - from cheaper conifers. During production, a protective layer is applied to the surface of the planks. It may be that increase the wear resistance of the material and facilitate maintenance. Parquet boards have a locking connection system. When assembling, the spike of one board is inserted into the groove of the other and snapped into place.

Wooden boards are hygroscopic. At high air humidity, they tend to increase their geometric dimensions, which will cause warping of the strips. At low humidity, due to the drying of the wood, the dimensions will decrease and a gap may appear between the wall and the parquet. Due to the multi-layer construction, these phenomena are not as noticeable in parquet boards as in solid wood products.

Optimal conditions for this material: indoor air temperature - 18-22 ° С; relative humidity - 40-60%. These conditions are maintained with the help of humidifiers in winter during the heating season, and air conditioners with a humidity reduction function in the summer.

Why use parquet on the wall

Parquet wall decoration is popular due to its simple installation and natural patterns. As the top decorative layer, wood species traditional for our latitude are used: oak, ash, birch, walnut, and exotic from different regions of the world: sapels, zebranos, tiger wood, merbau. Due to the small thickness (0.6-6 mm), the cost remains affordable, in contrast to the solid wood coating.

The coating becomes even more interesting due to the processing methods: staining, toning, thermal exposure, brushing and creating micro-masks from two or four sides. These small cuts around the perimeter of the plank give a sense of volume and at the same time hide the influence of seasonal fluctuations in humidity.

Decorative techniques

Long and narrow elements are laid horizontally, vertically or diagonally, you can trim the entire wall or individual fragments. If you want a decor without end joints, look for big size boards with a length of 2,200 mm or more. For diagonal installation, short planks are preferred to reduce waste. However, regardless of the installation scheme, when ordering the material, add 5% to the actual cladding area for possible trimming.

What wood to choose for the walls

On the wall, the boards do not need the same reliable protection against abrasion as on the floor. Therefore, products with a top layer of any wood species, including medium and low hardness, are suitable: cherry, pear, alder, birch, which are not very practical on floors. Compositions for treating the surface of wood (varnish, oil, oil-wax) are also considered from the point of view of design. In some interiors, for example, in the kitchen, boards with a spectacular and bright glossy varnish are preferable, and in the bedroom or living room - with colorless oil, which gives the impression of natural untreated wood.

Manufacturers of wood flooring began to produce special series of boards and decorative panels for walls and ceilings, including those with complex surface relief or 3D effect. In their combination with other wooden interior elements (floors, stairs), the harmony of material, shape and color is most fully manifested.

How to mount parquet on the wall

To install parquet on the wall, you need to order when all wet processes (screed arrangement, plastering and filling of walls and ceilings) are completed, the leveling layers are dried, and the heating and ventilation system are well established. Laying of the coating is started only when the moisture content in the substrate drops to 2–3% (more precise data is indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions for a specific material). Otherwise, the planks will absorb evaporating moisture, increase in size, bend, and in the worst case, the lamellas of the upper layer may peel off.

Remember that the same rules apply here as when installing parquet boards on the floor. Before starting work, the sealed packages with the material are kept in room conditions for at least 48 hours for acclimatization. Do not rush, especially if the boards were brought into a warm house from the cold. Condensation forms immediately on them. The wood absorbs it, and if you start laying immediately, then after a while gaps will appear between the planks. At the joints with the floor and ceiling, small (1 cm) deformation gaps must be left.

The method of laying also plays a role, for example, herringbone parquet creates the most uniform load on the wall.

Installation of ceiling and wall panels on plasterboard cladding

To make the wall look more harmonious, it is advisable to open several packages, lay out the elements on the floor, matching them in color and texture. After all, wood is a natural material, and it is impossible to find planks with the same pattern and color. Parquet boards are mounted on any flat base: plastered, made of plasterboard. The main thing is to choose the appropriate fixing method and adhere to the process technology, carefully study how to fix the boards. You can entrust this to any master who is familiar with the flooring of parquet boards on the floor.

Installation of ceiling and wall panels vertically

First of all, you have to create an installation scheme. This will be followed by the preparation of the foundations (floor and walls), the installation of beacons (initial rows that will set the direction), the laying of parquet planks, ripping and varnishing.

Alternatives to parquet

Laminate

Parquet on the wall in the interior can replace laminate from the "French Christmas tree" series. It should be laid with an expansion joint at least 10 mm wide along the mounting perimeter, around risers, along thresholds and under doors.

Porcelain stoneware

Ceramic tiles in the chevron design can be installed with subtle seams. Before installing them in residential premises, you will need to equip an electric heated floor.

Fiber optic wood

Pay attention to the panels made of glued solid wood with the addition of optical fibers. They are placed between the layers of wood in a strict geometric order. Fiber optic transmits the light flux, the tree acquires the ability to conduct light.

The panels can be used for doors, furniture and serve as decorative finishing of walls and ceilings. Especially if you replace it with a luminous bitmap. Since the panels are 99% wood, working with them (processing, sawing, applying varnish, wax, stain, etc.) does not differ from working with ordinary wood.

Wallpaper under the tree

In order not to lose centimeters of usable area, look for wallpaper that imitates wood flooring. Decorating walls with this finishing material will take incomparably less time and effort, and the visual effect will be the same. Wallpaper decors are quite interesting in terms of beauty and color possibilities. These are not only classic natural beige and brown shades, but also an original reproduction of aged and painted wood. The most realistic picture of wood trim will be created by photo wallpaper. They can be custom made and fit exactly to the size of the wall.

Today is another post at your request.

"Recently we bought an apartment in which a large kitchen-living room is upholstered with wood from floor to ceiling. And so I don't know how to present it. What colors go with wood (except for obviously white), which kitchen to choose so that everything does not merge into one whole, what kind of textiles to choose and in general ..
It would be great to see a selection on wood trimmed houses. "

I think that this topic is interesting not only for Zhenya, since wood is the most common building material in Russia. Wood is environmentally friendly and durable, it is a warm material that can be very attractive. Perhaps the only negative is the prevalence. Classic lining, beams, boards are often used because it is "cheap and cheerful". This can also affect the perception of the design of the house, even if the finish was deliberately chosen for other reasons (at least a feature near Moscow). Therefore, I will devote part of today's analysis to this topic.

Various types of wood are used for decoration: oak, apple, walnut, pine, birch, exotic species. It can be given the appearance of zebrano, wenge, rosewood, bleached oak, and, if desired, painted. You probably know that by choosing a pine tree, you also choose its texture - along with knots and possible eyes. This will have to be taken into account in the further interior design.

Everything is important in wood finishing: from the species and texture to the color, size and shape of the panels. That being said, you don't have to stick to one thing.

Here is a vivid example of combining different textures, colors and shapes of wood:

The tree can be processed in different ways: covered with wood stain, varnish, decorative protective coating, painted, artificially aged, you can make a type-setting drawing with it or use carving ...

I'll start simple.

Rustic or suburban interior:

The texture of the wood can determine the style. So, if all the walls (and, possibly, the ceiling) are finished with classic clapboard, I propose to forget the standard dacha interior design solution - "I blinded it from what was" (in other words, from the unnecessary brought in the apartment).

Wood is a self-sufficient background that should not be overloaded. It can be shaded with: Natural materials (leather, wicker furniture, stone), supplemented with homogeneous textiles (similar texture) and diluted with something bright (floral prints, bright colors).

Izba:

The logs look brutal and noble. Massive wooden furniture, wrought iron furniture and accessories will look good in such an interior.

Aged tree:

A tree that looks old takes on nobility. Chips and cracks can be forgiven him.

Bleached wood:

A few years ago, the whitewashed wood craze passed. It looks really great.
For such an interior, you can pick up furniture and accessories in a classic style.

Painted wood:

If you are tired of the color of wood, you can paint it the same way as wood furniture.

Such an interior can be decorated in a country style.

Modern interior:

Smooth, neatly matched boards can be a great backdrop for a modern interior. I would say that such an interior needs more space.

Light furniture, both white, cream, and gray and even light green, will look perfect.

Zoning

Wooden walls can be distinguished by painting part of the walls.

Wooden walls go well with stone and brick:

COLOR SOLUTIONS

When choosing the color of furniture and textiles, you will have to take into account the shade of wood that you have chosen. I recommend choosing natural shades. A few combinations that I find the most successful are below.

White, creamy, creamy. The light interior looks lighter and calmer. And even the animal skin does not look intimidating here:

RED

Red is a strong color. And at the same time, its shades are suitable for most shades of wood.

If the interior, where a lot of red is used, will not please many ...

then the interiors where accents are placed in this color are liked by the majority:

Green is also a very natural color. The most natural will be the use of ornamental plants:

Green can also be chosen as an accent color, when the rest of the interior is in a calm color scheme:

And combine with red:

Gray, blue-black, gray-blue - natural shades of stone:

Choose a style and make your apartment or house complete and individual.

Wood on the floor has become familiar to us; it is difficult to imagine a modern interior without parquet. And what about the walls? They are often decorated with wallpaper or painted, but there are other, more original ways of decorating. For example, wall cladding with wooden planks or panels. What does it look like and in which room is a wooden accent on the wall appropriate?

Second Life

Old parquet flooring, planks from household boxes, materials left over from the manufacture of furniture - all this will come in handy for unusual wall decor. Moreover, such boards can be repainted, stained, sanded and left untreated. This will save on finishing and find use for boards that are idle.

A drop of comfort

Why clap the walls with wooden planks, how does the interior benefit from this? First of all, it is an environmentally friendly type of finish that does not cause allergies. The next aspect is aesthetics, and it is difficult to disagree with this, because the tree always looks stylish, beautiful and presentable. In addition, this type of decoration will significantly increase the degree of comfort in the interior, make it more lively and warm.

Wood as an accent

The accent on one wall is a fashionable feature that has been actively practiced by designers in recent years. Why did this technique win love and recognition? Everything is very simple! It allows you to divert attention from the flaws of the room, and concentrate it on any area. For example, in the living room this is the place where the sofa is, and in the bedroom - at the head of the bed.

Tribute to style

Of course, wood wall cladding will look appropriate in certain styles. It is unlikely that a high-tech room can be decorated with such boards, here they will look simply ridiculous. But in an ecological style, a Scandinavian space, cozy Provence, shabby chic or rustic rooms, wooden walls will fit more than harmoniously. For delicate Provence and shabby chic, options painted white or specially aged are suitable, boards of natural colors will look good in eco and Scandinavian style, and rough textured boards will be appropriate for rustic ones.

Planed board, due to its parameters such as ideal surface smoothness, correct geometry, low humidity, it is often used in interior decoration and construction

The most common areas of finishing include:

  • exterior finishing of buildings
  • interior decoration of premises

External finishing

1. Building

Wood is gaining ground in construction and decoration. A fairly popular way of building houses is to use rounded logs or timber... For those who do not need construction, but want to improve the house, an excellent solution would be the use of facing materials, one of which can be called a planed board.

Using a planed board for cladding a building is a reliable way to hide existing flaws, hide communications, and revet a house after insulation.

2. Floors

Planed board suitable for arranging floors on verandas, in a bathhouse, summer kitchen, gazebo.

For this type of finish, you can use a material of a natural moisture level, since the operating conditions provide for the effect of moisture on the wood.

When installing the floor, it should be borne in mind that it has a considerable load. Therefore, you should take a responsible approach to the choice of the thickness of the board. And also take into account the distance between the base bars - lags.

Interior decoration

1. Floors

Plank is one of the most popular materials for flooring. Wood creates a certain interior, helps to retain heat in the room, and serves as a natural humidifier. The use of a planed board as a floor covering guarantees a flat surface.

Thanks to the wide selection of wood stains, varnishes, waxes offered on the modern market, you can always choose a harmonious color scheme for various interiors.

2. Ceilings

Wooden ceilings create the atmosphere of a country house.

The use of a planed board in a continuous ceiling finish will allow you to hide surface irregularities, hide communications, and mount built-in lamps. And also allows you to immediately get a finished surface that does not require further finishing.

If the height of the room does not allow to equip a completely wooden ceiling or the design project does not provide for this, a planed board is also used as decorative elements.

3. Walls

As a rule, the walls are not completely sheathed with wood. Either one or two walls are decorated, or a partial finish is applied. So, for example, decorating a wall up to half - in the form of a wall panel - will add solidity to a study or office space.

The planed board used for interior decoration of premises must correspond to a certain level of humidity - within 6-10%.

Thanks to the wide variety of wood textures, wood stains and varnishes, various ideas can be embodied in the design of the room.

4. Interior decoration of rooms with high humidity (kitchens, baths, saunas)

Due to the special operating conditions of wood in rooms with high humidity or with fluctuations in humidity, there are no strict requirements for dryness. It is sufficient to provide the necessary ventilation clearances. For saunas, it is recommended to use linden or aspen wood. These rocks dry well and do not emit tar. Various functional elements of a room - benches, doors, etc. can be made from planed boards.
