The sea in Sardinia is one of the cleanest in the whole country, which is why there are so many golden beaches and cozy coves where you can hide from prying eyes and enjoy the privacy.

The island of Capri is revered by travelers all over the world for its pleasant and mild climate with a minimum of rainy days, as well as for its unique nature, combining endless beaches, framed by rocks and cave grottoes. It is located very close to Sorrento, half an hour drive from Naples and other Italian cities - Pompeii, Amalfi and Positano.

Also, from Capri it is quite close to the island of Ischia - another picturesque place in the Tyrrhenian Sea, famous for its medicinal radon geysers and healing hot springs in the Sorgetto Bay, where people swim all year round... Most of the hotels in Ischia have their own thermal springs very beneficial to health.

Rest on the lakes

In this country, you can delightfully relax not only on the beaches, but also on the beautiful lakes in the north. They are of glacial origin and total area about 37 km². The average depth of these reservoirs is 400 meters.

One of the most popular reservoirs is Lake Como, as well as Maggiore and Garda. Here you will have the opportunity not only to relax your soul, but to get real pleasure from the natural beauty of Italy.

If you wish, you can always book and redeem a special tour, which will include many excursions in Italy and trips to different cities of the country. The advantage of such a trip will be that visits to museums and attractions will already be planned, which means that you will not have to stand in long queues.

Usually travelers want to see Rome, Venice and Florence first, and then Naples, Bari, Padua, San Marino, Pisa, Siena and other cities. A visit to these places can be combined with a beach holiday.

Ski tours

Italy is one of the best countries to visit in winter and ski. There is a huge selection of ski resorts and resorts with thermal waters.

In particular, the town of Bormio is known for its warm springs and beautiful mountain slopes with a length of 60 kilometers, the height of which varies from 1200 to 3000 meters.

The highest peaks of Italy are in the Val D'Aosta region. These are Monte Rosa with a height of 4632 meters and Mont Blanc with its 4807 meters. The length of mountain trails is over 70 km. There is a single ski pass that connects Monte Rosa, Courmayeur and Cervinia with French and Swiss slopes, so skiers don't have to pay multiple times. Another famous resort for lovers of winter skiing is Val di Susa in the Piedmont region, somewhat reminiscent of the French Alps.

Climate

Italy is a very diverse country, not only in terms of culture and leisure activities, but also in terms of natural conditions. The capital of Italy is characterized by a Mediterranean subtropical climate. Precipitation prevails here in winter, and summers are rather hot and dry.

Northern Italy has hot summers and rather cool winters. The south of the country is known for the hot sirocco winds that blow from March to September. They bring with them very dry, warm air and heat up to 35 ° C. Spring is especially beautiful here, when the weather is not so hot yet.

The islands of Italy have hot summers with warm winters and occasional rainfall. This does not apply to the Alps, whose peaks are covered with snow almost all year round.

In general, the Italian climate is perfect for recreation 12 months a year, since not only a beach and sea type of recreation is practiced here, but also skiing, as well as health and wellness.

Visa

To travel to this hospitable country, it is enough to issue a Category C visa, which gives the right to stay in the Schengen countries for up to 90 days. For those who have relatives and friends living in Italy, it will be much easier to get a special visa "by invitation".

In Italian catering establishments, it is customary to leave a tip for good service, although often they are already included in the bill. If you want to dine on a budget, sit down not at the table, but at the bar counter - then you can not give tea. Do not be surprised if the invoice contains the line "tavola" - this is payment for bread, water and a tablecloth.

By the way, when choosing a cafe or restaurant, be guided by the number of locals - if there are many well-dressed Italians in the establishment, it means that the food is good here, and prices may be below average.

In tourist places in Italy, it is better not to keep your bag and wallet with you. Beware of pickpockets and motorbike thieves. There is almost no street theft in the north, but you need to be careful in the south.

As for siesta, most shops close from 2 to 4 pm, and sometimes from 1 to 5 pm. Small shops and the private sector can set their own break times - this is normal in Italy.

Pharmacies and shops are closed on Sunday and museums are closed on Monday.

• You can buy cigarettes in Italy only from specialized tobacco kiosks, since the state here has a monopoly on the sale of tobacco products. Smoking in taxis and public transport is prohibited, as is the case in most cultural and entertainment venues.
• Municipal beaches with free admission prevail in Italy, but you have to pay for a sun lounger (5 to 10 euros) as they are rented from private entrepreneurs. Although 5 meters from the edge of the sea, you can sunbathe for free on towels.
• Going to Italy, take your best things, because the locals not only themselves are an example of style, but also often evaluate “by clothes”. It is better to take a mini-iron with you - the hotel may not have it.
• When shopping, remember that Italian garments are usually exactly one size smaller than Russian ones. And with shoes, the opposite is true - shoes can be one size larger than ours.
• In a conversation with an Italian, in no case exalt this or that region over others, if you do not know where your interlocutor is from. Local residents are very sensitive to the issue of a small homeland.
• In Italy, not only long-distance calls are paid, but also calls within the city - remember this when talking on the phone at the hotel. It will be cheaper to buy a local SIM card or use a payphone.
• If you plan to stay in the country for a long time, in order to save money, you can rent an apartment or rent a studio at a cheaper price.
• One final tip: before you fly to Italy, read the reviews of tourists about the city you have chosen.

Like most other tourists, having visited only one city in Italy (in my case it was Rome), I mentally put a tick in front of this country - I checked myself, so to speak. Imagine my surprise when I arrived in the north of the country, and a year later - in its south. It was then that I realized that two different parts of Italy are like two separate worlds. They differ in everything - architecture, geographical features, culture and traditions, the character of people, their attitude towards tourists, even the types of pizza, after all.

Until the first half of the 19th century, on the territory of present-day Italy, there were many different states that were not related to each other, although their inhabitants spoke similar languages. Most of them were in a state of socio-economic decline, which made the population extremely dissatisfied. In the 30s, a revolutionary organization called Young Italy was created, which advocated the creation of a unified country and its national independence. It reached its ultimate goal in the early 70s, when Rome became the capital of the unified state. This movement is called the beautiful word risorgimento (in Italian it means "rebirth").

Today Italy is divided into 20 regions, which, in turn, consist of several provinces. Of these twenty five have a special autonomous status and at least one more, in addition to Italian, an official language. You can move around freely both by car and by public transport; the railway system, which connects the whole country from north to south, is especially convenient in use. Before proceeding with the description of each part, I note that all regions, even the smallest, are worth visiting.

Valle d'Aosta

I will start, perhaps, with the northernmost, and probably the most “non-Italian” region of the country. He is one of the five that I talked about in the previous paragraph. Being on the border with France, Vallee-d’ has adopted a lot from his neighbor, including the language - French is recognized as the official here, there are also several dialects. The administrative center is a wonderful city, which many call "alpine Rome" because of the well-preserved ancient buildings.

The region itself, surrounded by the highest mountains in Europe (Mont Blanc, Gran Paradiso, Monte Rosa and Matterhorn, each with a height of more than 4000 m), is famous for its premium ski resorts, the total length of which exceeds 1000 km. A six-day lift pass costs more than 300 EUR, and the slopes are dominated by red ones.

There are also many castles in the region, the most famous of which is called Fenis (Castello di Fenis). In this majestic medieval building with several towers and a double defensive wall, you can mentally travel back to the era of the knights thanks to its slightly mystical atmosphere.

For the region's gastronomic delights, be sure to try the Fontina cheese, which has been made in the area's small cheese dairies since the 13th century. In terms of wines, the most popular are Fumin, Muscat blanc di Chambave and Petite Arvine, which are produced in high alpine vineyards.

Piedmont

The region is famous for its many lakes. The largest are Maggiore, Garda, Iseo. If you are in these parts, be sure to devote a day to at least one lake - such beauty cannot be missed. Active guests will appreciate the many hiking and cycling trails, tennis courts and golf courses.

There is also one of the largest and oldest national parks in the country - "Stelvio" (Parco nazionale dello Stelvio). It is characterized by a wide variety of flora and fauna, so do not be surprised if a predatory golden eagle flies over you while walking, and several young deer emerge from the forest.

Due to the large number of lakes, it is famous for its dishes made from freshwater fish, and it is also the birthplace of mascarpone cheese, which is used to make many desserts. When in Milan, be sure to order risotto alla milanese, and, of course, do not forget the sparkling wine Franciacorta, the so-called Italian champagne, which is produced near the city.

Trentino-Alto Adige

A feature of this region is its division into two parts - southern Italian-speaking Trentino (in honor of the capital - the city of Trento) and northern Alto Adige (aka Südtirol), where, like in neighboring Austria, German is spoken. Earlier, Trentino - Alto Adige was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which also had a tremendous impact on its development.

This region is especially loved by fans today. winter species sports - ski resorts are located in the heart of Südtirol, among the massifs of the Dolomites. There are many tracks, so they are suitable for both beginners and pros, their quality is at the highest level, and the prices are much more pleasant than in the French part of the country. In particular, a 6-day ski pass costs around 160 EUR. In addition, the region is recognized as a world center for mountaineering, so if you have always wanted to try this extreme sport, you are on your way here.

As for winemaking, the southern part is famous for this (as it should be - Italians are more wine lovers than Germans), the most popular brands are Vino Santo and Trentodoc. The northern part specializes in growing apples and all kinds of dishes made from them, mainly desserts.

Veneto

Probably one of the most popular parts of the country among Russian tourists. The capital of the region is unique and romantic Venice, which you can read about. Also worth a visit is Verona, where, according to Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet lived.

In addition to romantic and cozy cities, it is famous for its good beaches. I can vouch for Caorle - a typical fishing village with a beautiful square and port, which is worth visiting at dawn when boats return from the sea with their catch.

If you want to get away from the crowds of tourists, go to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In summer, it is incredibly beautiful, calm and, importantly, cool, and at the beginning of winter the ski season opens.

In addition to fine wines (the best in the region are Leonildo Pieropan, Amarone della Valpolicella and Bardolino Classico), it is worth trying the famous grape vodka. In local non-touristy restaurants, you will not find the usual pasta, pizza and lasagne - the cuisine is different from the average Italian. I advise you to try fresh seafood and Venetian liver (fegato alla veneziana), which is prepared according to a special recipe with onions and red wine.

Friuli Venezia Giulia

This is a small region that has everything at once: beautiful architecture, snow-capped slopes, beaches, and opportunities for agritourism. The administrative capital is magical Trieste, which during the prosperity of Austria-Hungary was an important political and cultural center, and today is famous for a mixture of Eastern and Western Europe.

In my opinion, it is worth going here in spring to admire the unique architecture of Trieste and visit the famous Cantine Aperte festival, which means “open wine cellars” in Italian. On it you can taste a variety of wines, as well as get advice from expert sommeliers and find out the answers to all your questions.

Speaking of winemaking: Friuli Venezia Giulia is famous for its white wines, so every tourist should try the local Pinot Grigio. In the restaurants, look out for seafood and prosciutto San Daniele, the region's gastronomic pride.

Emilia-Romagna

This is perhaps the most promoted region of the Adriatic Riviera, since Rimini is located here - the most popular resort among Russian tourists. The administrative capital is the city with the oldest European university and magnificent architecture.

In addition to the bustling tourist Rimini, there are many calm cities with clean beaches - for example, San Mauro Mare. Sports car fans will be delighted with museums dedicated to such automotive giants as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, Maserati.

Moreover, this is one of the main gastronomic centers of Italy - it is here that traditional Italian lasagna, the famous Bolognese sauce, sparkling Lambrusco wine, Parma ham and delicious Parmesan cheese appeared.

Tuscany

The region of vineyards, endless green fields, the birthplace of many great artists, cities with incredible cathedrals - all this is she,. Its capital is the famous Florence, which one cannot help but fall in love with (you will find out why).

Here, just half an hour away by train, is where you should stop for a while to take a photo with a falling tower on your palm (don't laugh - this is a must do). Not far away is the city, whose symbols are the Chianti wine and the Pali horse racing (il Palio).

Here you can also relax by the sea - the largest port of Tuscany is located in Livorno, and nearby there are many small towns that are perfect for a relaxing family vacation. I cannot fail to mention the island of Elba, where Napoleon was once exiled. Huge ferries leave from Piombino every day and offer amazing views as you approach your destination. It is worth spending a day on the island - beautiful landscapes and luxurious villas will remain in your memory for a long time.

Frankly, having arrived in Rome for a week, on the last day I wanted something different - either because of the heat, or because of an overdose of architectural works of art, and we began to think about where to go. There were three options - the thermal resort of Fiuggi, the Circeo National Park, the coastal resort of Gaeta. We chose the third and did not lose at all! Leaving the train, we breathed in the fresh sea air and, probably, immediately fell in love with this cozy city, not spoiled by tourist attention. In addition to a very good beach holiday, the region is famous for its Monte Orlando park. Be sure to go up there. You can wander there for a couple of hours, enjoying the views of the coast.

Hungry, sit down in a restaurant and order, of course, the carbonara spaghetti, which first appeared in Lazio. Also worth trying are the so-called telephone wires (Suppli al telefono) - delicious rice balls stuffed with mozzarella. For white wines, try white Frascati and Marino, for reds I highly recommend Aprilia.

Molise

This small region is not at all popular with tourists, but in vain - coming here, you will feel like a pioneer - the local beaches and parks are so unexplored. It seems that time has stopped here - all the main highways connecting the south and north bypass Molise. Instead, there are a lot of "tratturi" - ancient roads that many years ago were actively used by shepherds.

Almost everything reminds of history here: many archaeological sites, medieval abbeys, ancient castles, one of which - Monforte - is located in the administrative capital of Campobasso. Are you interested? Drive to the village of Isernia, where settlements (one of the first in Europe) appeared about 700 thousand years ago. As for gastronomic delights, while on the coast, pay attention to seafood dishes. There are several pasta factories in the region - a paradise for pasta lovers. As for alcoholic drinks, locals strongly advise to try milk liqueur and cherry liqueur.

Campania

You can spend several months in this region and not have time to explore it completely, but you can stay here for just an hour and fall in love once and for all. It is here that the Amalfi coast is located, where it is absolutely impossible to find at least one ugly place - which is worth only one villa Rufolo in Ravello.

There are many hiking trails, such as the Trail of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei). Walking along it and admiring the opening views, I really thought that this is something divine, and that all this is not in reality - it is so beautiful there.

The famous Pompeii and the Vesuvius volcano, the only active volcano in Europe, as well as the administrative capital of the region, are also located here. Behind him has established the fame of a very dirty and unsafe city, but many forgive him for the most delicious pizza in the world.

Besides Neapolitan pizza, Campania is home to my favorite cheese, mozzarella. They grow lemons, which are then used to create limoncello - a sour, but very tasty liqueur. From wines, I advise you to try the red semi-sweet Falerno.

Puglia

Apulia is, so to speak, a heel, if you imagine Italy as a boot. The region is famous for its clean beaches, which are not yet popular with tourists. Particularly beautiful, it seems to me, is the area near the capes of Castrignano del Capo and Santa Maria di Leuca. The coast is indented by wild cliffs and dotted with grottoes of azure water, and when you first see it, it seems like an eternity can be spent here.

The administrative capital is the cozy city of Bari, which is compared to Paris itself. This is a very popular pilgrimage site for Christians, since it is here that the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker are located.

Locals are very fond of pasta, the most popular and unusual is orecchiette - small pasta with turnips. Such an unusual combination, as a rule, is not to everyone's taste, but this dish is worth trying. There is a city in the region where the best mussels in Italy are mined. I recommend Primitivo di Manduria for red wines, Locorotondo for whites.

Basilicata

This region is not at all spoiled by the attention of tourists, and therefore, in fact, it is beautiful. Semi-empty beaches with clear water attract those few travelers who still make it to the pearl of southern Italy with their pristineness and very inexpensive vacation prices.

The main pride of the region is, of course, the cleanest coastline. In addition to simple beaches, there are several very worthy resorts with thermal springs - for example, the Terme La Calda and the Terme Rapolla. I advise you to pay special attention to the small town of Maratea - it is here that the statue of Christ the Savior is located. Measuring 22 meters high, it is the second largest in the world after the statue in Rio. It is stupid to describe its grandeur and beauty of the landscapes opening from the mountain - you need to see it for yourself.

Basilicata has a lot of unusual culinary delights, such as giblets (gnummarieddi) or horseradish scrambled eggs (rafanata). Aglianico del Vulture is produced here, which is produced near the extinct volcano Vulture. It has a light berry flavor and, as a rule, is very popular with the fair sex.

Calabria

The hottest, southernmost region of the country. A favorite vacation spot for Italians themselves, and they should be trusted in this regard. I must say that in some cities there are many Russians - for example, in Scalea there is a whole company that sells real estate to our citizens. You should also be prepared for the fact that most of the local population does not speak English, so write down all the basic phrases in Italian in advance. However, in the capital - - you probably won't have such problems.

Be sure to visit Diamante. I was told that unlike all the other cities on the coast, it did not have any zest that would attract tourists. After long meetings, the authorities made a very beautiful embankment and invited artists to paint pictures on the walls of the city. It seems to me that it turned out very unusual and interesting.

What she is famous for in the field of gastronomy is, first of all, limoncello, which I already talked about a little higher. In local pastas, fileja pasta is most often used, and also delicious pecorino cheese is produced here.

Sardinia (Sardegna)

This island paradise is dearly loved by many people, whose names can be found on the Forbes list. On the northeastern coast of the Costa Smeralda are the villas of many, including Russian millionaires. However, do not think that a budget vacation is impossible here - the prices here are not too different from those in mainland Italy.

Sardinia has countless beaches and resorts to suit all tastes. For example, Porto Cervo is popular with people who like luxury vacations, Porto Rotondo is suitable for diving, and Baia is famous for its bustling nightlife and loud parties.

Most tourists come to the island for a beach holiday and completely forget about everything else. Don't make this mistake, go to the capital of the region - Cagliari. There, be sure to stroll through the historic center and climb the Bastion of St. Remy (Bastione di San Remy), which offers breathtaking views of the city and the sea.

Speaking of local delicacies, you can make a list of several dozen items, so it is extremely difficult to single out one thing. Perhaps this is pasta or risotto with bottarga - this is dried tuna roe, which all the locals go crazy with. Be sure to try Malvasia - this is a very delicate and light dessert wine.

Sicily

Famous for its mafia clans, the island in reality turns out to be not at all as scary as many describe it. Picturesque landscapes fall in love with thousands of tourists, and the active Etna volcano seems to challenge the most daring of them, offering to climb to the top.

The capital of the island - - many deservedly call an open-air museum that combines the incompatible. So, walking around the city, you will walk along typical Turkish streets, stumble upon Arab mosques and see ancient Roman architecture.

It's impossible to get bored in Sicily. In Syracuse you will find many ancient excavations, in Messina you will listen to the legends that have been wandering here since the time of Homer, and it is worth going to Catania at least to look at the city that is located at the foot of Etna and seems to have been reborn more than once.

As for Sicilian cuisine, it is said that here you should try the paste with cuttlefish ink, which makes it look somewhat exotic. From alcohol, the refined and strong Marsala, Moscato, Faro-di-Messina are held in high esteem.
