MK: do-it-yourself children's play wigwam. How to make a wigwam for children with your own hands: a step-by-step photo with a detailed description of the process We sew figvam

All kids love secluded corners. Only in solitude can you give free rein to your imagination and go on a fascinating journey through imaginary worlds. This is why children often construct homemade houses from pillows, blankets and other improvised means. But if you want your child to feel like a brave traveler or the hero of his favorite fairy tale, give him a hut. Moreover, it is quite easy to make a hut for children with your own hands, but the child will be able to fill his leisure time with exciting games. Today "House of Dreams" will share with its readers ideas for building children's huts, which can be installed both in the children's room and on the street.

We make a hut for children on our own - some interesting ideas

1. Sheet and rope

To make a hut, it is enough to stretch a rope between the trees, throw a sheet over it and secure its edges with wooden pegs or other suitable means... To make the child comfortable, lay soft, blankets or on the ground. And even if there is nothing supernatural in such a "building", a child's fantasy can fill it with an exciting story. A homemade hut for children on the street will give a lot interesting games and, moreover, it will save babies from overheating of the sun.

When choosing a place for a hut, give preference to darkened and level areas.

2. A tent made of gymnastic hoop and fabric

An ordinary gymnastic hoop can be an excellent base for a baby hut. It is enough to sew a long fabric to the hoop and hang it in a horizontal position, for example, to a tree branch at such a height that the edges of the fabric reach the ground. Alternatively, you can simply throw a large piece of thick fabric over the hoop, build a tapered roof and secure the frame at a convenient level. Then, to hang the hut, you only need a reliable strap or tape.

3. A hut made of branches

Probably every child dreams of travel around the world, dangerous adventures and exciting journeys. You can help a child fulfill his cherished dream without leaving his own suburban area... Since brave travelers prefer to sleep not in a warm bed, but in a hut made of tree branches, made with their own hands, the baby will surely be delighted with such a gift.

But how to do children's hut from branches? There are some interesting options:

  • Firstly, you can build a hut from flexible and long branches left after pruning trees and. First, collect as many branches as possible and select the largest specimens. In the place of the future hut, draw a circle and dig in the branches around its circumference, tilting them so that they create a conical frame. Install only two branches at a fairly wide distance from each other, because they will serve as the entrance to the future hut. Make sure the branches are set firmly and refill them with the remaining material. It's okay if the walls of the hut are "shining through" - being in such a house, the baby will still feel like, at least, Robinson Crusoe.
  • Secondly, you can make a "live" hut, decorating it with foliage and plants. If you are not in a hurry to build a wonderful house, plant it around the perimeter of the frame climbing plants, for example, grapes, bindweed, etc., which, as they grow, will beautifully braid the walls of the hut. If you want to give your child a holiday “here and now”, just cover the frame of the hut with branches with greenery.

4. Hut wigwam in the nursery and on the street

The wigwam hut is a traditional Indian home. This structure has a conical shape and sturdy construction... Previously, the Indians built their homes using thick branches, which were then covered with thick canvas. We can also make a children's hut on the principle of a wigwam. To do this, you need to pick up 5-7 flexible but strong rods, and then set them in the form of a polyhedron or semicircle. The tops of the twigs should be connected in such a way that they are aligned like flowers in a bouquet, overlapping each other. At the junction, the twigs must be secured with a strong rope or a piece of fabric.

If you are setting up the wigwam outdoors, dig in the base of the twigs a little into the ground. If the wigwam will be indoors, tie the transverse rods at the bottom of the structure, which will secure the structure.

After that, decorate the wigwam with a cloth. Most often, triangles are formed between the adjacent twigs of the hut, so you just need to cut out pieces of fabric in this shape and sew them around the frame. However, it is much more beautiful if the wigwam hut is decorated with a specially sewn cover, for the creation of which you will need to carefully measure the height of the frame and the width of each of its parts.

5. Gable hut

By making simple design of several wooden slats, you can create a beautiful gable hut or tent hut. The most important thing in this structure is to choose the right fabric. If you are setting up a tent in the yard, it is best to use a tent fabric that will not fade from the sun or deform due to high humidity... If the structure will be in the child's room, cotton or any other natural material.

Room huts

If you are not confident in your abilities or just do not want to waste time making a homemade hut, you can purchase finished structure... For example, the Swedish brand IKEA produces beautiful and easy-to-play huts. Such structures are suitable not only for games, but also for. In addition, the branded hut will certainly become the main decoration of the children's room.

As a hut, you can also use a stylized awning or a roof on the bed. This accessory will not only give your kid a world of exciting games, but also provide him with a sound and restful sleep.

Children love all kinds of houses and secluded places where you can play with friends or read interesting books. An excellent solution is a wigwam that you can buy or sew yourself. There are simple options for the original houses and more complex ones that require certain knowledge and sewing skills. How to sew a wigwam?

First, you need to master the technology and learn more about how to make a wigwam for children. This will require special tools and materials.

For the frame, you should prepare:

  • 6 bars, the length of which is about two meters, and the thickness is from 3 to 4 cm. You can also choose bamboo sticks;
  • Rope of extra strength;
  • drill and drill;
  • good elastic band.

To make an awning you will need:

  • a cut of natural fabric (linen or cotton) with a length of up to three meters and a width of 1.3-1.5 meters. The material must be dense;
  • 6 strips of fabric. You can take ribbons, ribbons or cords up to 30 cm long;
  • threads to match the fabric and a needle;
  • for trimming the edges, you can take self-adhesive tape or threads and a sewing machine;
  • to make a door, you will need a lace or such accessories - rivets and buttons. Small diameter eyelets.

You will also need a pencil and pins. Step-by-step instruction includes the following steps.

Step 1

A wireframe element is made. It can be done in a number of ways.

All the bars are gathered together and tied with an elastic band. In this case, you need to retreat from the top by 10-25 cm. The poles are widely spaced on the sides. The wigwam diagram clearly demonstrates how this can be done. The elements must be at the same distance. In this case, a wider space must be left for the door. The frame must be firmly installed.

There is another way. A through hole is drilled in each stick with a drill. In this case, you need to retreat 10-25 cm from top edge... Then the poles are linked together. Then the elements are spread apart to form a cone. The top should be wrapped with rope.

Step 2

Then you need to make a wigwam canopy. To do this, you need to clarify the size of the wigwam. The fabric is laid out on the floor in the form of a square with sides of 1.5 meters. The fold line should be on the left side of the square. The square is connected diagonally. In this case, you need to add two opposite corners to make a triangle.

Step 3

Cutting in progress. The markup is drawn first. In this case, an arc is drawn from the fold line to one of the sides. Then a second arc is drawn with a diameter of about 8 cm. Cutting is carried out according to the marking. The fabric can then be spread out on the floor. In this case, you should get an awning in the form of a rainbow.

Step 4

The frame is wrapped in fabric with the wrong side out. The ends need to be fastened with pins. The fabric must be marked where it touches the beams at a height of 22-25 cm from the floor.

Step 5

The material is removed from the frame part. In place of the markings, pieces of twine or tape are sewn.

Step 6

All tissue sections must be carefully processed. For this, the edges are folded twice and sewn by hand or on a sewing machine. You can also glue them with a special tape.

Step 7

At the end of sewing, you need to think about how the edges of the awning will be fastened. You can use eyelets that lace up. Buttons, ribbons, or even buttons will do.

Step 8

The wigwam is covered with an awning. Its top should be fastened, and the doors should be tucked back. They are fastened with ribbons or Velcro. A blanket or rug is covered inside, you can put beautiful pillows... You can put flags on sticks, and decorate the canvas with tassels, LED garland and pom-poms.

Such an unusual hut can be placed in the yard or on the playground, and brought into the house at night. If the awning gets dirty, it can be easily washed.

How to make a wigwam exclusive?

To make the design original and unique, you can apply different design ideas... When choosing a fabric, you should give preference to two options at once, which will be beautifully combined with each other. Houses with removable covers that can be removed and cleaned are especially convenient.

The frame can be made from a different number of sticks. It depends on the future configuration of the product.

The design can be supplemented with checkboxes or play with the color composition. The black and white solution looks unusual. The option for princesses can be made not only in pink, but also in yellow or lilac colors... The option with garlands looks magical. To create a product in a marine style, it is worth choosing the appropriate textiles.

Children need adequate space. And also - in adventure and magic. So they need a wigwam!

This is the case when fashion came to terms with a dream. Because, firstly, everyone dreams of a hut in childhood (and a wigwam is essentially a hut), and almost everyone made it out of everything that came to hand - bedspreads, chairs, curtains, pillows. Because, secondly, the wigwam is very fashionable. In any interior catalog, on YouTube and in social networks, pictures of cute wigwams are flashing.

Everyone dreams of a wigwam in childhood

So, childhood dreams coincided with my mother's (father's) idea of fashionable interior and it was decided to buy a wigwam for the child. There are a lot of offers - from needlewomen, from fashion stores, from design workshops. Inexpensive or insanely expensive, rustic, bohemian, glamorous ... Stop! No need to rush shopping.

Because thirdly: you can make a children's wigwam with your own hands! A great way to spend time together and usefully, to prove to the child that parents are just wizards, and he himself is a designer and owner of the best wigwam in the world.

It is easy to make a wigwam for children with your own hands

Let's not forget that the wigwam is an Indian dwelling made of animal skins, linen, sticks and ropes. Leaving aside the skins of buffaloes, as an exotic material, we stock up on linen, curtains or bright bedspreads ... the size of about a long sheet. You will also need structural details and a tool:

  • The canvas is approximately 1.5 mx 2.5 m.
  • Rope (or strong braid) - 1-2 m.
  • Sticks 1.2-1.7 m long - 3 pieces.
  • Pencil.
  • Scissors.
  • Drill.
  • Glue (it is convenient to use a glue gun).
  • Threads and a needle.

Materials for the wigwam

Important! The structure should be stable, and the sticks should be light and without sharp ends (because the wigwam will still fall periodically, and it should not harm its owner).

Sticks should be lightweight and free of sharp ends.

A gap should be left in the upper part so that the smoke of a fire escaping from it, on which the meat of a wild goat was fried, and during the day the sun glare played on the walls of the tent. If your child is not keen on stories about Indians, tell him about the starry sky, a piece of which can be admired on a cool evening. Or just explain that you need ventilation - it all depends on the imagination of children and adults.

Collect the wigwam with the whole family

A masterpiece must be created together. This is fundamentally important. Because only joint work, with a crush and smearing with glue, truly unites the family and falls in love with the wigwam, which will be made for children by their own hands.

Installing the frame

First you need a frame. It should not move apart, so it is required to fix the angle of inclination of the poles.

Measure from the upper end of the sticks 20 cm, put a cross with a pencil.

Drill a hole on each stick at the mark.

Pull the cord (rope, tape) through all the holes.

Pull the cord through the holes

Make the frame look like a regular pyramid.

Tighten the rope one knot and wrap it around the intersection of the sticks very tightly, in several turns. Dad's superpower will come in handy. All this time, mom and children must keep the legs of the wigwam in the right position- otherwise a rigid structure will not work.

Wrap the rope around the intersection of the sticks

Important: especially inventive parents glue the contact points of the sticks with glue.

You can leave the frame alone for 10-20 minutes so that the glue dries and dad rested.

Apply glue to the contact points of the sticks

The next step is to stretch the skin onto the frame. How to do it? Usually the most the best solution turns out to be the simplest.

So, the starting position: the frame is ready and stands in such a way that it has two sides and one frontal one, on which there will be an entrance.

Wigwam cover without sewing

The first way of covering - it couldn't be simpler:

Bend the canvas to a width at which it hangs down to the floor on the sides at the bottom, and at the top it does not reach the line of the crosshairs of the sticks by 10-15 cm.

Throw it on the racks, while an overlap is formed above the entrance to the hut - it should not go onto the side walls, so the front of the canvas may need to be folded.

Throw the fabric over the racks

Mark the line of the upper edge of the fabric on the sticks with a pencil.

After trying on the canvas, move it down (there are a lot of people on the construction site, someone will support him).

Grease wooden sticks with glue from the line of marks 15-20 cm down.

Place the fabric along the upper marks, press it against the posts, smeared with glue, and let it dry.

Attach fabric to glue-coated uprights

To form an entrance - sew pieces of braid (ropes) to the edge of the canvas and in the area of the sticks so that you can open the entrance, or close in a children's wigwam, which you just managed to make with your own hands.

How to sew a stable tepee for kids

This method of wrapping is more difficult, but the wigwam will hold its shape better.

Measure the sides of the wall triangles.

Cut four pieces of fabric to these measurements, adding 7 cm on each side.

Cut to size triangle walls

Sew them together, leaving one side unstitched - this will be a rear door. In total, you will get 3 seams with large allowances - 6-7 cm on each side

Sew them together

Sew the allowances along the edge so that you get a drawstring into which the stick will be inserted.

Sew the drawstrings into which the pali will be inserted

Cut off the top edge by 10-15 centimeters - this will be the hole “under the ceiling” of the tent. Overcast edge - overcast or hem.

Pull the tent from below onto the sticks. Glue the top to the tree.

Pull the tent underneath onto the sticks

The entrance to the wigwam is covered with two canvases, which can be folded onto the racks or closed by closing the entrance.

A small improvement noticeably strengthens the structure: just on the side of the entrance, connect the two posts with a tape along the bottom (you need glue). It is necessary to fasten it to the sticks as close to the floor as possible so that the child does not stumble. What does it do? The racks will not be able to part in different directions.

Stable wigwam for children with their own hands

How to sew a wigwam mattress for children

We advise you not to engage in complex cut, but to sew a square mattress. You can use a large pillowcase. If you put a sheet of foam rubber 10-20 mm into it, then the frame will stand on top. If there is a pad of padding polyester in the pillowcase, the mattress will turn out to be soft and can be put inside the wigwam by tucking the corners.

The mattress will make the wigwam warm and cozy

A mattress is a must - it closes the space, it is warm and cozy. With him, a wigwam, sewn for a child with his own hands, turns into a house, a nest, a cave, a secret refuge - according to the circumstances.

How to decorate a new wigwam? First of all - a good choice of fabric. If it is not decorative enough, you can sew on or stick on strips of textiles, braids, fringes.

Decorate the edges of the wigwam with decorative tape

On the upper ends of the sticks, you can hang three multi-colored paper flags or put a bunch of feathers on the top.

Garlands of multi-colored light bulbs turn the wigwam into a magic tent, a dream and celebration come true.

Garlands will turn the wigwam into a magic tent

Sometimes a window is cut through the wall, but this is not necessary. In general, the process of decorating and improving the wigwam is endless - this is also long time the child will be engaged. Parents are left with one thing: not to interfere and sometimes help to implement new ideas.

You can cut a window in the wall

Wigwam in the interior of a children's room

In the children's room, the wigwam will become a place of solitude for the child. It doesn't matter if this room is for two children or for one, all the same, the kid needs a house proportionate to himself, and not to the world of adults. There, and with a shaggy bear, you can keep secret, and look at a book, and just fall asleep on a mattress.

The wigwam will become a place of solitude for the child

The wigwam fits into the classic Scandinavian interior as if it were a native - it goes well with the light aesthetics of minimalism. Even fabrics offered by Scandinavian designers come with appropriate prints: stylized Indian ornaments, snakes, corners, etc.

If the nursery for a boy is sustained in nautical style or ecological, then in the design of the wigwam you can use the colors of the safari, decorating it under a camping tent.

In a glamorous girl's bedroom, the wigwam can transform beyond recognition, turning into a delicate tent. For him and the fabric, you can pick up silk, and decorate with ruffles, and use all shades of pink. Why not? If you make a wigwam for a nursery with your own hands, then one that will take your child's spirit.

Playing with the child in a tent from a blanket and in houses under the table suggested to put something like a tent at home or small house... The options that can be found in various kinds of stores, ranging from chain children's stores to large furniture stores, were not evaluated positively. Or because of the price, or because of the goofy design, which is crammed with modern cartoon characters. Put up my father's camping, three-person tent in a room of 15 sq. meters also did not dare.

Having plowed through the Internet, we stumbled upon the option "make your own wigwam". After looking at a lot of pictures, we decided to focus on the model with four rods, i.e. on quadrangular pyramid... One diagram of a wigwam model from the magazine "Horizons of Technology for Children" (Poland) is circulating on the Internet. They took it as a basis. If you stumble upon it, we advise you to carefully study it first and calculate everything very accurately, since it is more indicative.

So, we need rods or sticks of the required length and fabric. As sticks, we chose cuttings for garden tools, which are sold in any chain store for summer cottages. The cuttings are 180 cm long and 2.5 cm (1 in) in diameter. We used the fabrics that were at hand. Unfortunately, or vice versa, fortunately, we did not have big piece fabric that the four sides of the tent could be cut from, so we used the trims and patches that we had from other projects. As it turned out in the process, the denser the fabric, the better. It is best to use a fabric for upholstering furniture. For the height we have chosen, you need about 3-4 meters of one and a half meter in width of the fabric. After all, you do not think that the child will sit back and look at the house admiring the delicate matter? The fabric must withstand stretching, sagging, falling objects, and so on. Or take a test drive - "what will happen if you hang on it?" ...

To be honest, initially we had a simple option - having bought a cheap fabric, we decided not to look to make it according to the proposed Polish scheme. However, the fabric was too stretched, the dimensions were not entirely correct. As a result of our hack, we got some kind of absurd something.

So, at first we decided to make a mat, which will serve as the "floor" of the wigwam. After evaluating the scale of the room, we settled on a 1.15 x 1.15 cm square rug. Loops (about 10 cm) were sewn to the corners of the rug, which, by analogy with tourist tents, could hold the supports of the future wigwam. Of course, you can do without this stage, especially if the tent needs to be made on hastily to have fun for a couple of hours.

After the carpet was sewn, we tried on the future frame of the wigwam - we put the rods and connected them at the desired height. While some hands were holding, others took off the dimensions of the required trapezoid - the side of the wigwam, of which it was necessary to make 4 pieces.

Our dimensions turned out to be as follows - the width of the trapezoid is 120 cm at the bottom, 17 cm at the top and the height is 120 cm. Based on the diagram, you can choose the dimensions for your wigwam. Thus, we need three solid trapezoids and one slit trapezoid for the passage.

Since we were limited in fabrics, we settled on a color version, which consisted of large weasels. Sketched out the diagram:

They decided to insert the sticks into a special pocket, which was sewn between the two sides of the wigwam, so it was possible to strictly adhere to the selected size of the sides of the trapezium and get rid of additional seams.

After the sides of the wigwam (trapezoid) and the pockets for the sticks have been prepared, it remains only to sew them neatly.

Then we insert the sticks, fix them in the rug and, after straightening the sides of the wigwam, connect them from above.

Here you can come up with several connection options - tie them up with a rope or a piece of tape, or drill holes in them through which you can put a strong rope and pull them off. We settled on the first, more simple version... Of course, in this case, with proper (strong!) Loads, the structure of the wigwam can be assembled - but this is not critical and gets better in one touch.

We threw pillows on the floor of the wigwam. Now you can play in it and spend time in comfort.

When folded, the wigwam does not take up much space; it can be easily folded and hidden in a closet or in a bed.

On the aliexpress website, I found a bunch of all sorts of cool things for the children's room. Since I decided to make it in such a rather nautical style, I needed to find elements of a nautical theme.

I put the whole thing in a basket, and oh, horror, there were such purchases that it’s even inconvenient to say. And I just looked at some pads, wooden seahorses, decorative fishing net and something else there - in general, as my husband would say, all unnecessary garbage. Of course, I didn't buy all this. But one more thing sunk into my soul that, well, I never got out of my head, namely a children's wigwam. This is a house that is placed in a children's room. The kids play in it, read, in general - the dream of my childhood.

After a good search, I found several VKontakte groups that sell wigwams for children. Bright, beautiful - just a symbol of comfort. In general, I fell in love. But the prices for those wigwams for children that I liked were frankly biting. If you take a wigwam of good bright colors and a soft mattress for it, it comes out about 10,000 rubles. I thought about it and decided that I could easily sew such a wigwam for children myself, make it with my own hands.

In the Metro store I bought 4 sticks, 180 cm high, they were well polished and had the desired height and was great for a kid's wigwam, and it's also 100% natural, besides!
Each stick cost me 200 rubles, in total all 4 sticks 800 rubles - not cheap for sticks, but "not a bitch, not a hitch."

Then it was necessary to buy cloth for a wigwam for children. The fabric was needed dense and preferably natural. I remembered that somehow my husband and I, passing by in IKEA, came across an assortment of different fabrics that were intended for interior solutions. And the fabric was dense, bright - just what you need.

On the website, I made an order, choosing a beautiful blue and white striped fabric for the bedspread with pillows and blue and white ethnic-style fabric for our children's wigwam.

There are 4 meters of striped fabric on the bedspread with pillows, but we are not talking about that now.

There are 7 meters of ethnic-style fabric on the wigwam.

In total, the materials for the wigwam, together with the sticks, cost me 3,530 rubles.

We cut out a wigwam for children on our own

To make a pattern, I made a wigwam out of sticks without fabric, so to speak, constructive, and measured its sides.
Then I drew a miniature pattern on paper.

This is my pattern, as you can see there is nothing complicated here.
Then we take cloth, crayon or pencil and draw a pattern on the fabric. Everything must be done carefully, since such a fabric allows you to cut and cut without any particular difficulties. For example, I was worn out with a fabric for a Roman shade made of bare synthetics in due time, and in comparison with it, it was a pleasure to cut a children's wigwam.

Having cut out 3 sides of our wigwam, we begin to cut the last frontal one.

In fact, everyone does it differently. Someone overlaps the floor-doors, stitching them to the upper part-triangle. I did it differently. I just took and cut the same triangle, only halved, and then sewed it with a curly stitch cross to a cross.

So what's important. My sticks have a round cut with a diameter of 5cm. Therefore, I made allowances for the covers for sticks of 5 cm + 2 cm for the seam, it turned out 7 cm.

We sew a wigwam for children:

  1. Bend the upper and lower edges of each triangle by two times and sew.
  2. We sew our triangles, the sides of the children's wigwam.

  1. We iron well.
  2. We retreat 5 cm (the size of the diameter of your sticks) and draw a line on the left along each seam for a cover under each stick, guiding our children's wigwam.

  1. We sew, folding the sides of the wigwam along the seam, so as to get a pocket for a stick. Pre-check if everything is measured correctly and whether the sticks will climb. They should not go in too tightly, but they should not dangle inside either. Should be moving forward tightly.

  1. We pass the sticks into the covers and put the wigwam, fix the structure at the top with ropes.
  2. Sew at the top, at a distance of 25-30 cm, the floors of the front side of the wigwam so that it is safe and beautiful.

I haven’t gotten around to the flags yet. You can make decorative flags from the remnants of fabric and put them on the ends of the wigwam sticks.
Well, it remains to sew a mattress from the remnants inside the wigwam.

And that's it!
Wigwams for children "came" to us from the USA, where various children's houses of all kinds and designs are very common. if you have a desire and sewing machine, then it should not be too difficult for you to sew a wigwam for children with your own hands, and this miracle of the sea will bring joy.
