DIY wooden lampshade for a bath. Lamp for the bath - factory and homemade products. Lighting technology

The topic of baths has been raised more than once, and all because it is in such a place that a person can truly rest, relax and improve their health. When equipping your bath, you will need to take care of high-quality lighting. Below we will tell you how to make a lamp for a sauna and a bath with your own hands.

Baths are visited by many people, regardless of wealth, status and health. Many of them dream of having their own steam room. Moreover, a skilled owner will not only invest in such a complex of funds, he will not hire expensive designers and craftsmen, but he will be able to do most of the work himself. That is, we can say with confidence that such a structure as a bathhouse can be made and equipped with your own hands, and even more so, you can hang bath lamps, and you do not have to be an electrician.

Bath lamps

To begin with, before taking on the work of creating lamps for the bath with your own hands, you should understand a number of nuances that can later affect the correctness of the work.

By and large, all of them can be described in three points:

  • You need to have experience in connecting electric lamps, in particular lamps for baths and saunas.
  • You will need to choose luminaires with a sufficient level of protection that will not be afraid of high temperatures and excessive humidity.
  • Next, you will need to make original lampshades, decorative screens and other decorations to create a design, for example, a plafond for a bath, and also combine them with the general atmosphere in the bath as a whole.

Due to the vastness of all the topics, everyone can get information on the first point from the literature on the rules for working with electric current in conditions of excessive humidity. The second point will be considered briefly below, and the third will be considered in as much detail as possible.

Organization of lighting in the bath

During the creation of a technical project, it is worthwhile to devote enough time to the development of an electrical diagram of the arrangement of lamps for a Russian bath, switches and sockets (for more details: ""). The priority, of course, is the location of the lamps.

Almost all bath rooms are similar to rooms in a house or apartment, and everyone should know how the lighting will be organized in them. The lighting in the room or bathroom will match that of the washroom and break room. Separately, it is only worth discussing the steam room - the principles of lighting in the bath in the steam room will be somewhat different.

The lighting system in a steam room or a Russian bath must meet a number of criteria.

The basic conditions are as follows:

  • a lamp for a steam room sauna should emit a soft light so that a person in a relaxed state does not squint and feel comfortable;
  • the lighting in the steam room is chosen dim, leaving a slight twilight and allowing you to relax, since it is not customary to engage in any cosmetic procedures in the steam room;
  • in the steam room, it is better not to use overhead lighting, since the maximum air temperature is fixed precisely under the ceiling - it is optimal to place heat-resistant lamps for the sauna on the central or lower levels;
  • in order to avoid injuries due to damage and failure of lighting devices, they must be protected with a protective screen or grill, which will prevent direct contact with electricity in high humidity conditions, and also prevent you from being cut by fragments if the lamp accidentally breaks;
  • it will be useful to have lamps in the bathhouse made of wood, installed additionally near a font or a barrel of water, at the doorway, as well as above the shelves.

Adhering to these conditions, you can be sure that all people in the steam room are guaranteed to enjoy the steam room and not get any injuries in the process.

Sauna lamps with moisture protection

To purchase really high-quality waterproof lamps for a bath, you should pay attention to a number of significant indicators.

It is very important to keep track of:

  • So that the degree of protection of devices against moisture and coarse particles according to the international classification corresponds to values of IP 54 and more; such data, as a rule, indicate on the body or packaging of the luminaires.
  • That the sauna lamp you have chosen is heat-resistant, that is, it is able to withstand high temperatures. As a rule, in different types of saunas the air temperature can fluctuate from 60 to 120 ºС, therefore it is better to choose the most protected electrical appliance. For example, in a Russian steam room, the temperature can reach 100 ºС, in Turkish baths, the heat resistance of the lamp must correspond to 150 ºС, and in the case of ceiling lamps, you need to pay attention to devices that can withstand 200-300 ºС. In addition, it is very important that the body of the heat-resistant sauna lamp is securely sealed with silicone or rubber to prevent moisture from entering the interior of the appliance. It is optimal to choose equipment with LED or energy-saving lamps, which heat up much less than conventional incandescent bulbs.

DIY lamp making

In this section, we will look at how to make a sauna lamp with your own hands. True, in this case, it is more about decorating an already finished industrial product than about assembling a complete circuit of an electrical appliance.

In particular, we will tell you how to make decorative grilles, protective screens or openwork lampshades. As for the luminaires themselves, there can be various options - from fluorescent or LED to fiber optic. The choice depends only on the preferences and financial capabilities of the owner of the bathhouse, however, if we talk about the price, then fiber optic devices belong to the highest price category.

Decorating the lamp with a wooden lattice

Considering the interior of any self-built bathhouse, we can confidently say that various wooden elements are very actively used in them, and not only the design of the walls or floor, but also the decor. In particular, if in the steam room all the walls, ceiling and even the floor are made of some kind of wood, then it would be quite appropriate to place lighting decorated with wooden details in it.

By the way, the wooden grill made by you will bear not only a decorative, but also a purely practical load - to protect the lamp from accidental damage. A lattice made of wood will allow you to make the lighting more subdued and diffused, will cast beautiful shadows and highlights on all surfaces, will help you relax and detach yourself from the rest of the world. As a material for decoration, you can use the leftovers and scraps after facing the walls and ceiling in the steam room, then all the interior elements will be in the same color scheme and texture.

Nevertheless, if you wish to supplement the steam room with specific aromas, we recommend using larch or cedar wood for the manufacture of gratings. In addition, such a tree is also very durable.

Examples of lighting fixtures with wooden lattices can be found in the photos attached to this material.

The structure of the luminaire grille assumes the presence of such structural elements as a frame and small slats attached to it from above and below.

When manufacturing parts, it is worth considering the following nuances:

  • the shape of the frame will be different depending on the placement and shape of the luminaire itself; so, a wall lamp can be equipped with a semicircular or rectangular frame, and if the device is located in a corner, the base is made in the form of a triangle or a trapezoid;
  • based on the size of the luminaire, the length of the lath is selected; all sharp corners are carefully ground and rounded to give the finished product a more perfect, finished look, as well as to ensure safe operation;
  • you can connect all the details of the structure with metal self-tapping screws, however, they need to be fastened from the inside of the lattice so that no steel elements are visible from the outside; this will ensure safety, since self-tapping screws can become very hot during the operation of the bath and burn the skin.

In general, we can say that slats are made on the basis of what result you want to get. If you want to get a strict lattice, take rectangular planks of the required width and connect them in rows in parallel or cross them with the letter "X". If you want to get a more elegant product, the slats can be made curly.

Simple convex or concave bends in the center (you can combine them, creating a kind of semicircular lattice) can be made by any person who has even the initial knowledge acquired in school. And if a person also has a sufficiently developed imagination, then it is a sin not to fulfill the bars of the lattices in the form of figures of living beings.

We make several such gratings, and we can assume that the lamp is ready for the steam room with our own hands.

Diffusion screen as decorative luminaire protection

The decorative grille belongs to one of the finishes of the lighting fixtures in question.

For diffuser screens, as a rule, one of the following materials is used:

  • wood or bark;
  • strong and, at the same time, thin fabric (silk will do);
  • clay or ceramics;
  • plastic;
  • glass;
  • paper or cardboard.

In this case, nevertheless, the most acceptable material will be wood.

The choice fell on this material due to the following requirements:

  • high hardness, because the screen should not only look beautiful, but also protect from impacts;
  • possessing a low heat capacity, that is, the material should not overheat so as not to cause burns;
  • be easy to handle with your own hands.

A number of other materials can be used to arrange elements of wooden lattices, or be part of lamps in other bath rooms, for example, rest rooms.

It is quite easy to build a screen for a luminaire, the manipulations are not very different from those when creating a lattice. You just need to attach a straight or curved wooden plate or a bark plate with carved patterns to the base instead of slats.

Any shape of the holes can be made. Most often they are made in the form of African masks, images of the sun, a fire, various colors and all kinds of silhouettes. Fortunately, on the Internet you can find a pattern for every taste, you just need to print it and transfer it to a template.

It should be noted that the simplest type of screen can be a shelf or its back. Instead of a LED lamp, you can purchase a waterproof LED strip and glue it behind the back board. As a result, we get a gentle light directed in the desired direction.

Above, we have considered two simplest options for manual decoration of lamps for a bath. They will definitely be enough to make the pair unique, so that friends and family will definitely be delighted with your talent. In any case, everyone can relax to the fullest in such a pleasant atmosphere!

The range of lighting fixtures on the modern market is huge and constantly expanding. But not all luminaires are suitable for certain conditions and premises.

The article will discuss how to choose the most durable and suitable devices for lighting a steam room in a bath.

Requirements

Lighting devices are primarily used for their direct purpose - to add light to the room. But in the case of a steam room, they should be selected according to a number of criteria.

First of all, it is an aesthetic component. The lighting in the bath should be conducive to relaxation, not irritating the eyes, and causing pleasant and comfortable sensations. The second important point is safety, since in the steam rooms there are rather difficult operating conditions, the lamps must withstand them.

What do you need to consider?

There are few factors that must be taken into account when choosing lamps:

  • High humidity... In some steam rooms the moisture level is over 90%. Not every device can cope with such an indicator.
  • Sharp temperature fluctuations... In many cases, the bathhouse is located on the street and is a separate building. Therefore, if you heat it in winter, then the temperature difference can be from -40 degrees and below and up to +120 and above.
  • Prolonged exposure to hot air... The bath is heated to high temperatures and can be in this state for hours.

The lamps have a number of technical characteristics, according to which it will be easier to choose them for use in the steam room.

The main characteristic for couples is the degree of IP protection. It is marked with two numbers.

The first figure shows how much the luminaire is protected from various kinds of particles and mechanical influences. The number 5 indicates that the protection from external contacts and dust is complete. The second number indicates moisture resistance. Waterproof luminaires from small splashes spreading from any side are designated by the number 4.

By the level of exposure to temperature it is worth opting for devices that can withstand temperatures from 130 degrees... Consider the installation location of the luminaire. The closer it is to the ceiling, the more heat it must withstand.

And you also need to provide sufficient illumination. It will depend on the number of devices, and on their location, and on power. Recommended wattage ratings may vary for different types of lamps.

Incandescent lamps should not be installed if their power is more than 60 watts. They get very hot during operation and can cause a fire.

Another important selection criterion is the color of the lighting. The most favorable will be the usual yellow light.... It is comfortable for the eyes, creates an atmosphere of comfort and peace. White is colder, more disturbing. You can also choose colored lighting, but you should not use it as the main one.... Bright hues can be annoying and distracting when taking a steam bath.

There are varieties of luminaires for which you can adjust the direction of the light. It is convenient in steam rooms, unexpected and effective. You can customize the lighting to suit your specific conditions.

And also a practical solution would be to install a controlled lighting system, when some of the devices can be turned off and on as needed.

When choosing the type of lighting, you need to think about how the entire system will look.

To do this, do not forget to take into account the following parameters:

  • room dimensions;
  • is it possible to provide electrical wiring;
  • the maximum number of lamps for each device;
  • functions of the room - a separate steam room, combined with a shower, wet or dry steam room; these conditions will affect the degree of humidity;
  • angles of the light flux of devices.

As a result of studying all of the above, it may seem that the number of factors is too large, and is it not easier to choose the lamp you like in the store. But compliance with these conditions will allow you to create a comfortable, beautiful, unusual and safe interior that will serve you for a long time.

How to arrange?

First of all, it must be remembered that no matter how protected the luminaire is from high temperatures, it should not be placed directly near the stove. This is an additional risk for the safety of the premises and your health.

Installing lighting fixtures in a steam room requires a special approach.

Their layout should take into account important features:

  • It is better not to set a clearly directed light, especially towards the area where the vacationers will sit. This will cause great discomfort. The scattered rays will soften the environment and will not irritate the eyes.
  • Ceiling lights will be exposed to maximum temperature exposure, so be prepared to change them quite often, even if they are high-quality heat-resistant products.

  • All devices must be equipped with protective screens or grilles. This will protect others in the event of flying debris.
  • The ceramic base of the luminaire is less susceptible to heat and is less likely to burn if accidentally touched.
  • Consideration should be given to sufficient illumination in places of increased use. In the case of a steam room, this is an entrance, shelves on which guests sit, stones or a stove, where heating takes place.
  • Additional lighting of important functional areas (shelves, doors, heater).

There are various options for installing luminaires. If you decide to mount them above the shelves, consider the height at which they will be installed so that users do not touch them with their body or touch them with their head.

The best option for installation would be a corner... It is unlikely that someone will sit there, so the device will not interfere. If, by the design of the bath, you need to place lighting as close to the ceiling as possible, install the devices horizontally on the walls at the point where they are connected to it.

In Finnish saunas, emphasis should be placed on high temperatures. A Russian bath assumes high humidity. Therefore, the materials of the body and lamp for both types will be different.

Types and features

It is necessary to consider what types of lamps there are in order to choose the option that suits you:

  • Halogen lamps... This type is becoming more and more in demand due to its many advantages. The lamps have their own reflectors. The power is low (about 30 W), but the products can withstand high temperatures. This is due, among other things, to their own design. The temperature inside the lamp reaches 400 degrees. The structure is thought out in such a way as to protect the lamp as much as possible from moisture penetration and other influences. The light turns out to be natural, comfortable for humans. Safety of use is also explained by the standard voltage required for operation. There are multi-colored species, but they are not widely represented in the market.
  • Fluorescent lamps quite easy to use. It is worth choosing products without an electromagnetic choke. A significant advantage of such lamps is the ability to adjust the brightness of the light. This adds ease of use and expands design possibilities. There are energy saving varieties for economical consumption. It is important to take into account the peculiarity of fluorescent lighting - it does not tolerate frost. And if your bathhouse is located outdoors in a region with cold winters, it is better to refuse to use them.

  • Fiber optic devices they are very durable, withstand the most stringent requirements, but it is necessary to strictly follow the recommendations for their installation for fire safety. Devices in the form of a bundle can operate at temperatures up to 200 degrees. The diffused stream of light and placement everywhere give a lot of room for design imagination.
  • LED lights- a real fetish for decorators. But in the case of a steam room, they have somewhat limited application. LEDs under normal conditions serve many times longer than conventional lamps, but at high temperatures they quickly fail. If you do decide to install them in a steam room, place them close to the floor (under or behind shelves). The lighting can be quite bright and in any color. The LED strip must be glued to non-flammable and environmentally friendly substrates using safe formulations.

Which ones cannot be bet?

When entering a lighting store, you need to immediately understand which devices for installation in a steam room are not suitable at all. These are ordinary incandescent bulbs. They are quite fragile and are almost guaranteed to explode when hit by water droplets.

It makes no sense to choose gas-discharge products. Their high power is unjustified in low light conditions.

Lattice decoration

Most of the saunas located on personal plots, however, like saunas inside country houses, are trimmed with wood - most often clapboard made of various types of wood. In this case, I would like to supplement the interior with natural elements in order to maintain the integrity of the picture. Therefore, decorating lamps with wooden lattices has not only practical but also aesthetic value.

In practical terms, the grille protects the space from splinters if the lamp is damaged. The exterior, on the other hand, complements the peaceful and cozy atmosphere. Light streaming through individual cells loses its annoying brightness and scatters softly and everywhere, creating interesting shadows and reflections.

On the market for specialized products for the bath, you can find many beautiful and extraordinary options for gratings. But if you wish, you can do them yourself.

The material for a decorative element can be a wide variety of wood. If you like a mono-interior, then the base can be of the same type of wood as the lining of the rest of the bath surfaces. Most often, linden is chosen for these purposes.... Linden wood has a pleasant light shade, is very durable, exudes a pleasant smell and has healing properties.

But if you are a fan of aromatherapy, you should pay attention to products from coniferous crops (larch or cedar). They are not suitable for walls and ceilings, as they release resins when heated, and a small lattice will emit a specific aroma that has a beneficial effect on the nervous system. The product will serve you for many years.

The main elements of the lattice are a frame base and a lath grid attached to it in several places, depending on the type.

When planning a structure, you should pay attention to some features:

  • It is necessary to take into account the shape and appearance of the lighting device itself. It should fit with a margin under the grill and be conveniently attached.
  • The installation location significantly affects the design of the protection. If the lamp is located on the wall, then the shape of the lattice can be any: rectangular, semicircular, ornamental. If you install lighting in corners, then the protection can be triangular or have another convenient number of edges.
  • The lengths of the slats are selected according to the parameters of the luminaires.

  • If the product has sharp corners, roughness and irregularities, they must be sanded and smoothed. These manipulations carry not only a decorative component, but also increase the safety of operation - they reduce the risk of injury or getting a splinter.
  • The fasteners must be hidden. In this case, you can also use metal products to fasten the elements. If the heads of the hardware are on the outer surface of the lattice, there is a risk that vacationers can burn themselves on them during the washing process.
  • The shape of the slats depends mainly on your preference. Rectangular elements are used for simple and austere products. They can be arranged in parallel rows. Products with various bends are suitable for curly intricate lattices. But it will be harder for a novice master to work with them. The end result, though, is a unique design element.

In order to embody the most daring decorative ideas, you can build a diffusing screen... It performs the same function as the grille, but the design possibilities are much greater.

The material for the execution of the product can serve not only wood. The bark, natural fabrics, ceramics, plastic, and types of glass cope excellently with protective functions. The most short-lived type of coating will be cardboard or paper.

A lampshade for a lamp in a steam room is necessary in order to fit into the interior decoration of the bath and to protect the lamp from accidental blows. It will also help the light to diffuse gently, creating a relaxing atmosphere in the steam room.

Without special carpentry skills, you can make for yourself a lampshade for a lamp in a steam room yourself. The main thing is to choose the right wood material, preferably linden, aspen, cedar or larch. And decide on the size of the lampshade by making a template from cardboard.

TOOL:
1. Drawing accessories;
2. Board (preference for linden, aspen, cedar or larch);
3. Electric jigsaw;
4. Drills (1mm, 12mm);
5. Electric drill;
6. Woodworking machine with circular saw;
7. Grinding machine;
8. Sandpaper;
9. Screws, screwdriver, small nails;
10. Clamp.

First step:
First, I prepared two boards, and then I drew on one board the shape of the frame by eye, about 270 mm long.

Second step:
We drank the first workpiece along the contour, marked this workpiece and drank the second workpiece.

Third step:
Marked places for drilling holes on one workpiece.

Fourth step:
I put the blanks on top of each other and clamped them with clamps to the workbench, and drilled through holes with a diameter of 12 mm.

Fifth step:
The workpieces were sanded on a grinding machine and finished with sandpaper.

Sixth step:
On a woodworking machine, with a circular saw, I cut square billets 15 * 15mm with a length of 350 mm.

Seventh step:
On a grinding machine, on one side, on the workpieces, I made a rounding for insertion into the drill chuck, and on the other side I made a chamfer.

Eighth step:
A special, homemade device for making round sticks with a diameter of 12.5 mm, clamped it in a vice.

Ninth step:

He took the prepared sticks and, with the help of a drill, passed them through the device.

Tenth step:
Then I sanded the round sticks with sandpaper.

Eleventh step:
Sawed sticks 300 mm long.

Twelfth step:
Assembling finished workpieces:
I passed the sticks, pre-lubricating the ends with PVA glue into the holes.

Then, fixing them with small studs, pre-drilling holes with a diameter of 1 mm for them, so that a crack does not occur in the product. And twisted the screws as shown in the photographs.

Thirteenth step:
Made four holders for fixing the lampshade on the wall.

Fourteenth step:
I covered the finished lampshade with a special varnish for saunas.

The bathhouse, even in modern conditions, is in great demand, because it is there that a person can truly relax, improve health and rest. Given such a large number of its positive qualities, many people with different financial wealth, status, physical conditions dream of having a real bath complex at home. Naturally, its size, design and cost depend directly exclusively on the owner. If a person has a well-developed imagination, he will be able to ennoble his bathhouse on his own. This article will discuss how to make a lamp in the bath with your own hands.

Features of self-creation of bath lamps

Before getting down to work, you need to consider the main points that are directly related to the creation of such useful devices. Now we will talk about the main directions in which this topic is developing. What questions do household craftsmen have more often?

According to the experience of specialists, they are divided into three blocks:

  1. Connecting lamps with your own hands. Here, of course, certain knowledge in the field of electrical engineering will not be superfluous. There are some rules for working with electricity in conditions of high humidity and temperature, which must be understood and followed.
  2. The choice of the safest lighting devices for the bath. Make sure they are not afraid of high temperature, humidity. Making the wrong choice can lead to serious problems.
  3. Production of decorative screens, original lampshades, decorations for the decoration of individual rooms. It must be remembered that the lamps are installed not only in the dressing room, but also in the steam room.

What should be the lighting system in the bath?

Even at the stage of developing a technical design for a bath, a special diagram should be drawn up, which will clearly indicate the location of sockets, switches and lamps. Naturally, we will touch on the last point regarding lighting devices. It is very important to determine where and how to place them, what to pay maximum attention to when drawing up a diagram. When deciding to make a lamp for a bath with your own hands, you need to dwell on the rules of lighting in a steam room in more detail.

Here are the basic requirements that such devices must meet:

  • Lighting should be soft, not directional, because no one will be pleased if the light hits the eyes.
  • Excessively bright light does not allow you to relax normally, because the steam room is not a place for manicure, shaving or applying makeup.
  • Lamps should be positioned so that they are not strongly affected by high temperatures. It is better to place them on middle or lower levels, as it is too hot under the ceiling.
  • Each luminaire must be protected by a grate or a screen so that in the event of accidental damage, fragments do not fall on people relaxing in the steam room. In addition, in a saturated, humid steam room, there is a high probability of electric shock.
  • In addition to the main lighting, specific places should also be highlighted - a doorway, a font, shelves, a place for the location of containers with water.

If you comply with all these requirements, then your home steam room will become the most comfortable place where people will not bump into each other, be afraid of getting hurt.

Waterproof lighting devices for the steam room

If you are going to make a lamp for a bath with your own hands from wood, first of all, figure out some of the little things that will undoubtedly help you make the right choice and create exactly what you need.

This information includes the following:

  • The level of protection of an electrical appliance from moisture and solid particles, which, as a rule, are indicated on the case or packaging of the devices. It is the combination of several letters that indicates the degree of protection the lamps have.
  • Thermal stability of materials, of which the body is made. Here, the temperature of the steam room is taken into account, which can range from 60 to 120 degrees. You should focus on the highest indicator.

Important! The body of the lighting device must be sealed, equipped with a rubber or silicone seal that does not allow moisture to penetrate inside. It is recommended to choose LED or fluorescent lamps for luminaires, since they do not get very hot when burning compared to ordinary incandescent lamps.

Homemade lamps for the steam room

Of course, it is better not to complicate your work and not make the device from scratch, so let's stop at making decorative grilles, unique lampshades and screens. Everyone decides for himself whether it will be fluorescent, fiber optic or LED devices. The main role is played by the cost of the limiter.

Wooden luminaire with decorative grille

Many baths, built with their own hands, are distinguished by an incredibly beautiful and unique interior, decorated mostly with wood. Of course, rooms lined with clapboard, with floor trays and shelves made of poplar or linden, are more appropriate to equip with wooden lamps.

Important! The wooden decorative grille will perfectly fit into the decoration of the steam room and will protect the device from accidental damage, the light will be able to diffuse gently, while creating a relaxing atmosphere of coziness.

The decorative grille includes the following elements:

  • Top and bottom bases.
  • Slats attached to the body.

Create a luminaire according to the scheme:

  • Frame. This part may differ in shape, it all depends on where you want to place the device. If it is a wall light, then give it a semicircular or rectangular shape. If it is located in the corner, then its shape should be close to trapezoidal or triangular.
  • Reiki. Calculate the length of the slats for each grill - it all depends on the dimensions of the device behind it. If you want to get a strict lattice, then take wide rectangular planks and connect them in parallel rows or cross them with the letter X.

Important! For lovers of everything elegant, curly slats are suitable. Round off all sharp edges, carefully grind the surface to give the grate an elegant look.

  • Attach the strips to the frame with self-tapping screws from the inside so that they are hidden from the outside. The fact is that too high a temperature instantly heats up metal parts, and if you accidentally touch them, you can get a severe burn.

By analogy, create several lattices, and your do-it-yourself sauna lamps from wood are ready.

Diffusion screen for luminaire protection

The grille is considered the simplest option for finishing lighting devices, but, fortunately, not the only one. Another great option is a dedicated diffusion screen.

To make it yourself, prepare the following materials:

  • Bark "birch bark" or tree.
  • Thin but strong enough fabric.
  • Clay.
  • Plastic.
  • Paper.
  • Glass.

When creating a lamp in a steam room with your own hands, it is better to choose a tree for making a screen, because compliance with such requirements plays an incredibly important role here:

  • Sufficient level of hardness. The screen should not only decorate, but also protect the lamp from accidental impacts.
  • Low level of heat capacity. This element should not be very hot, otherwise it will be difficult to avoid burns.
  • Ease of processing. You yourself can shape the screen to the desired shape.

You will need to follow these steps to create a screen.

During the creation of a technical project, it is worthwhile to devote enough time to the development of an electrical diagram of the arrangement of lamps for a Russian bath, switches and sockets (for more details: “Electricity in a bath - advice on wiring with your own hands”). The priority, of course, is the location of the lamps.

Almost all bath rooms are similar to rooms in a house or apartment, and everyone should know how the lighting will be organized in them. The lighting in the room or bathroom will match that of the washroom and break room. Separately, it is only worth discussing the steam room - the principles of lighting in it will be somewhat different.

The lighting system in a steam room or a Russian bath must meet a number of criteria.

The basic conditions are as follows:

  • a lamp for a steam room sauna should emit a soft light so that a person in a relaxed state does not squint and feel comfortable;
  • the lighting in the steam room is chosen dim, leaving a slight twilight and allowing you to relax, since it is not customary to engage in any cosmetic procedures in the steam room;
  • in the steam room, it is better not to use overhead lighting, since the maximum air temperature is fixed precisely under the ceiling - it is optimal to place heat-resistant lamps for the sauna on the central or lower levels;
  • in order to avoid injuries due to damage and failure of lighting devices, they must be protected with a protective screen or grill, which will prevent direct contact with electricity in high humidity conditions, and also prevent you from being cut by fragments if the lamp accidentally breaks;

  • the shape of the frame will be different depending on the placement and shape of the luminaire itself; so, a wall lamp can be equipped with a semicircular or rectangular frame, and if the device is located in a corner, the base is made in the form of a triangle or a trapezoid;
  • based on the size of the luminaire, the length of the lath is selected; all sharp corners are carefully ground and rounded to give the finished product a more perfect, finished look, as well as to ensure safe operation;

  • wood or bark;
  • strong and, at the same time, thin fabric (silk will do);
  • clay or ceramics;
  • plastic;
  • glass;
  • paper or cardboard.

In this case, nevertheless, the most acceptable material will be wood.

The choice fell on this material due to the following requirements:

  • high hardness, because the screen should not only look beautiful, but also protect from impacts;
  • possessing a low heat capacity, that is, the material should not overheat so as not to cause burns;

Bath and sauna lamps - how to choose the right one?

Despite the fact that each bath, as a rule, has windows, there is not always enough light falling from them to steam with sufficient comfort. For example, if you decide to go to the bathhouse in the evening, when the sun has already set over the horizon, or in gloomy weather, when the sky is covered with clouds. In addition, windows are often not placed in the steam room at all.

Luminaire requirements

Since the luminaires will have to work in an environment with high temperature and humidity, special requirements are imposed on them. This is especially true of the class of moisture protection of the lighting device. You can't just hang up any light bulb. It is imperative to make sure that the lamp is suitable for use in a bath or sauna.

For wet rooms, such as a bathroom, a bathhouse or a sauna, it is recommended to purchase lamps with a marking of at least IP44 (protection against drops and splashes). Even better if you buy a luminaire with IP65 protection, which guarantees complete protection from dust and water jets.

In addition to moisture protection, the luminaire must have sufficient thermal stability to ensure reliable operation in the ambient temperature range from 20 to 130 degrees.

Types of lamps for a bath

Despite the large number of commercially available lighting fixtures, not all of them are suitable for a bath or sauna.

The best choices for bath lighting will be LED lamps, fiber optic lamps, halogen lamps, as well as the usual fluorescent lamps.

Let's take a closer look at their pros and cons.

In terms of price-quality ratio, it is difficult to find more economical and durable lamps comparable to LED lamps in terms of their resource, luminous flux and minimum voltage value used for their operation.

LED lamps, installed hidden behind various screens and spoilers, are able to add a touch of surrealism to the interior, and a wide range of color palette of light sources makes them clear leaders in comparison with any other types of fixtures.

Fluorescent lamps familiar to us are also installed quite often. Today it is one of the most popular types of light sources in baths and saunas. Moreover, they can be connected via a dimmer, which provides the ability to smoothly control the luminous flux created by fluorescent lamps.

Another modern type of lighting fixtures are fiber optic fixtures.

Fiber optic luminaires are not afraid of high temperature and humidity, and different lens shapes can create different lighting effects.

Laying fiber optics in special niches allows you to create amazing interior solutions using decorative lighting, and built into the ceiling, such lamps can create the effect of a starry sky:

Halogen lamps for a bath

Halogen lamps have a high heating temperature during operation. Therefore, they can be used in rooms with high temperatures, without fear that they will fail. The temperature inside the lamps themselves can reach 400 degrees.

Despite the low power consumption, halogen lamps have a high luminous flux generated, providing an excellent ratio of the cost of electricity consumed to the amount of light produced.

Installation of lamps in the bath

Despite the high degree of protection against possible splashes, lamps in the bath are often installed behind a wooden fence, which protects them from possible damage.

Bath light manufacturers

There are many different products on the market today, offered by numerous manufacturers of lighting fixtures from around the world, but some of them have already gained popularity.

Bath and sauna lamps - how to choose the right one?

Read on to find out how to choose the right lamps for your bath! The degree of moisture protection, types, manufacturers. Photo and video.

Bath lamps: characteristics, decoration options, lighting

Operating conditions

It is very difficult to find good lamps due to the special conditions of their use:

  • frequent temperature changes;
  • high humidity;
  • heat.

In this regard, not any lighting fixtures are suitable, but only waterproof lamps with high tightness. At the same time, any owner of a bath or sauna wants them at the same time to be aesthetically attractive and to decorate the premises, and not just illuminate them.

Requirements for lighting devices for baths and saunas

When the question arises about buying lamps for baths, you should be guided by the following characteristics:

  • resistance to moisture and high degree of protection (IP from 54);
  • resistance to high temperature and its drops (heat resistance up to 150, and if the lighting is ceiling, then up to 300);
  • good lighting ability;
  • the ability to adjust the degree of lighting.

Some luminaire options also allow you to achieve interesting decorative effects by changing the color of the lighting and its various programs (blinking, fading and turning on, etc.). This makes the lamps in the steam room a wonderful decor element. Especially if they have an attractive design.

What you need to consider when buying lamps for the bath

As with any other room, when choosing and placing lamps in a bath or sauna (both in the steam room and in the relaxation room), the following must be taken into account:

  • the size of the room;
  • the possibility of conducting electrical wiring;
  • the number of lamps in the lighting fixture;
  • the maximum possible power of lamps for the luminaire;
  • light reflectance;
  • luminous flux angle of the luminaire;
  • the light temperature of the lamp used.

Thus, it is not enough just to go and choose any lamp or sconce you like and a lamp for them, when it comes to the bath. It is necessary to think over and create a layout scheme and, in accordance with this scheme, select suitable lighting devices so that the lighting in the bath is sufficient for a pleasant pastime.

Lighting arrangement diagram

The lighting in the bath must be competent so that there are no shaded spaces and the pastime is comfortable for all participants at any stage.

The same rules apply as for any other room in your house to create the layout of the fixtures in the break room. But if you choose lamps for a steam room and their location, then the following must be considered:

  • bright directional light on vacationers is unacceptable. He should be absent-minded and pleasant;
  • do not forget about the excessively high temperature under the ceiling of the steam room. Even special equipment will not work for a long time in such conditions;
  • lighting lamps should be covered with a special screen or grilles to prevent fragments from falling on vacationers in case they break;
  • additional lighting of important functional areas (shelves, doors, heater).

Grilles for lamps in the steam room

If you want your lamps not only to illuminate the room well, but at the same time to be completely safe, fit into the interior and add zest to it, decorate them with gratings. You can make such a lattice yourself, using waste from wood, which was used to decorate the walls of the room. This will give you a truly coherent and harmonious picture. If there is no wood left or if you want to add pleasant, healed aromas in the steam room, then use larch or cedar boards. You can use pine wood, but only if there is not even an accidental contact between the grate and the resting person's skin.

Depending on the location of the lighting fixture, the shape of the lattice changes. Placed in the corner should have a trapezoidal or triangular shape, and for a wall one, a square or rectangle is best suited. The semicircular bend allows you to wrap around the lamp almost entirely, and not cover it only on one side. This will create a pleasant diffusing light throughout the room, adding warmth to the atmosphere.

For the lattice, you will need several wooden slats for the frame of the structure and thin slats for decorating it. All parts must be sanded, and connected only on the back side, so that vacationers do not even accidentally come into contact with the metal of the screws. Alternatively, the grill parts can be glued together, but the strength in this case will be lower and the period of maintenance-free operation is unlikely to please you. Self-tapping screws for fastening are the best option when creating a grill in a sauna with your own hands. In the photo below is another version of the original handmade lampshade.

Even the usual straight slats on the grill add mystery and softness to the atmosphere in the steam room, but if you know how to handle the tools, then you can create something more interesting and fanciful. It is enough just to add corners, smooth lines or cut out any figure in the rail, so that the lamp for the sauna and baths becomes an original decoration of the steam room.

What lamps to use in the bath?

Due to the good moisture resistance of special luminaires, there is no particular need to use special lamps. However, the desire of the owners of baths and saunas to make lighting in non-standard places required the creation of new lighting devices. Special moisture-resistant LEDs that can be placed even in a jacuzzi or pool made a splash!

Pros of using LEDs:

An additional advantage of using LED lighting is the ability to create lighting in different colors, which will make the steam room and the sauna relaxation room more exotic and interesting.

Original lighting for the steam room

In addition to standard lighting fixtures, you can use lighting that is easy to mount in sun loungers. Using LEDs, you can make it yourself or buy a ready-made waterproof LED strip.

Another option for interesting lighting for a steam room is optical fiber. Its only drawback compared to LED lighting is its higher cost. Otherwise, fiber is ideal for a steam room. It can be launched anywhere - from a wall or ceiling to the perimeter near the heater.

Bath lamps - types and how to do it yourself

In this article you will find detailed information about the options for lighting the bath, the requirements for lighting devices, options for decorating them and decorating them with lighting.

Bath lamps: features of choice

The bathhouse is considered a room with an increased risk of electric shock. To avoid trouble, luminaires must meet safety standards and function reliably under extreme conditions.

Appointment of lamps for the bath

Lamps for washing in a bath

There are three sections in the washing room, in which lamps of different protection classes are installed:

  • Zone 1 is located directly near the water - shower, pool, faucet, where there is a high risk that splashes will fall on the luminaire from all directions. In such places, install devices operating from 12 V, the protection class against moisture is at least 5 (IP 45, 46, 55, etc.).

In the sink, all appliances must be well protected from water, steam and condensation. Mount the luminaire on the ceiling so that splashes of water do not reach it. It is obligatory to have a plafond covering the contacts and the light bulb. Can be installed in wash fixtures similar to those in the bathroom of an apartment.

Lamps for dressing rooms and rest rooms in the bath

The rest room is also considered a room with high humidity, therefore the protection class of the lamp in the rest room in the bath is not less than 1. It is necessary to provide good light in the room, so install a chandelier for several sockets, light bulbs, two switches.

Lamps for a steam room in a bath

The body of the lamp for the steam room must withstand temperatures of at least 100 degrees, if installed on the walls, and 250 degrees, if attached to the ceiling. Cartridges and shades of products must be made of ceramics, porcelain and heat-resistant plastic. The body of such a luminaire is made sealed, with a silicone or rubber seal, so that water does not get inside. In addition, the lamps are produced with protective shades so as not to be injured by the fragments of an accidentally broken light bulb.

  1. It is forbidden to install devices near the stove. Even if they are heat-resistant, they are not designed for hot air from the heater.

Types of lamps for a bath

Not all lamps are suitable for installation in a bath, so their choice should be approached very responsibly:

  • Halogen lamps... In the hottest areas of the steam room, use 20-35W halogen lamps with their own reflector. They are not afraid of high temperatures (they can withstand up to 400 degrees), the contacts are protected from moisture, the voltage used is not dangerous for humans. Halogen lamps with a colored shade look beautiful.

Bath light manufacturers

Finnish companies Tylo and Harvia specialize in the production of waterproof lamps for baths. If possible, buy their products for steam rooms or saunas. They are expensive, but they stand out for their high quality and reliability.
