Vacation on Tuscany beaches - the best coves, beaches and recreation areas. The charm of Tuscany resorts: sea, entertainment, a fairy tale in reality

It's hard to know what is more popular in Tuscany - beautiful beaches or first-class wines. In any case, this is one of the most famous tourist areas in Europe, where monuments of ancient history are organically inscribed in picturesque landscapes. The resorts of the Tuscan Riviera or Versilia are considered prestigious and expensive, offering, above all, an individual vacation for wealthy tourists. Luxurious hotels, lush vegetation, many discos, bars and restaurants. People come here not only to relax, but also to join the "high society". The proximity of Versilia to the sights of Tuscany and such an artistic center as Florence make the resort even more significant.

How to get there and transport

In Tuscany, as indeed elsewhere in Italy, there is a well-developed network of bus and railways... But those who have their own vehicles will still get a special pleasure. The landscapes of Tuscany have long become world famous: vineyards, abbeys, pine trees and cypresses are replaced by sunflowers and poppies. All roads have good coverage, even in the wilderness you will not find a broken track. Hence the advice: of course, on the highways to move faster and, at times, more comfortable, but all the beauty of Tuscany can be seen only on ordinary highways.

The main resorts of the Tuscan Riviera

Italians themselves, who come here from other provinces, usually rest on the northern coast of Tuscany. In the resorts from Viareggio to Marina di Carrara there are well-maintained crowded beaches, differing from each other only in the color of sun loungers and umbrellas.

The Maremma region is a state-protected nature reserve. On its territory are, perhaps, the most uncrowded beaches in Italy. Access is limited, especially during the season, and many are open only a few days a week.

Punta Ala is one of the most elite seaside resorts Tyrrhenian Sea. It owes its fame to the local yacht club. Follonica is attractive for lovers of a relaxing seaside holiday. The clean sand and sloping coastline are ideal for families with children.

Castiglione della Pescaya is a modern resort that has grown on the site of an ancient fishing village. It has a well-equipped beach, well-developed infrastructure and popular water sports. In addition, horseback riding or cycling is possible in the surrounding dunes and pine forests.

Previously, Monte Argentario was a rocky island covered with dense Mediterranean vegetation. Today it is connected to the ground by two sandy isthmuses, between which there is a lagoon, protected by the International Fund. wildlife... The largest city on the island is Porto Santo Stefano, located on wide terraces that slope down to a picturesque bay. Another famous resort is Porto Ercole. Small beaches are also hidden among the high coastal cliffs of the island, some of which can only be reached by boat.

The beaches in Tuscany are quite spacious and sandy. On the entire coast, they are public and are leased from special cooperatives. Guests pay entry and use umbrellas, sun loungers, sun loungers, showers, changing cabins, and can also sit in any of the many bars.

From the harbors of Porto Santo Stefano, boats depart regularly to the islets of Giglio and Giannutri. These resorts primarily attract divers, although Giglio also has a few small sandy beaches. There are only two beaches on the island of Giannutri, but there are numerous grottoes along the coast.

Tuscan Riviera

The Versilia region in northern Tuscany is known for its 20 km of sandy beaches. Local resorts are considered prestigious and expensive, offering, first of all, an individual vacation for wealthy tourists.

The center of cultural and social life is Viareggio, which stretches along the fashionable promenade with boutiques, bars and restaurants. Lido di Camaiore is good for its democracy and simplicity. And on Forte dei Marmi, which amazes with its silence and elegance, most of all Italian celebrities rest.

Tuscany Accommodation

Local hotels are distinguished by their sophisticated style, cost and elegance. Most of them are located at some distance from the sea along the embankment. There are options for sea recreation with accommodation in villas, estates or castles.

A popular type of accommodation in Tuscany today is agritourism. Tourists stop at a farm or farm, where, in addition to a pool, air conditioning, silence and beautiful views, they are treated to their own olive oil, cheese and wine. In between culinary delights, agritourists can travel to Siena, Florence or the sea.

Discos (the largest are La Bussola in Viareggio and La Capannina dei Franceschi), nightclubs, disco bars. Every February, Viareggio hosts a carnival on a scale equal to that of Venice.

  • Where to stay: for sightseeing purposes it is most convenient - in Florence or Siena. To combine a seaside holiday with a tour of the "Tuscan riches", you can choose the prestigious Viareggio, family Follonica, green

Sea, beaches and resort life in Tuscany

One of the most frequently asked questions, to which I have been answering recently - "help me decide on the choice of a resort in Tuscany, so that the sea is clean, the beaches are sandy and free, and in the evenings it is not boring ..." with small variations on the theme of rest with children or in a youth company - finally then it took shape in a single article, which, I hope, will be useful to many.

Another reason for writing it, oddly enough it may seem, is the absolute impossibility of giving an unambiguous answer to this question in all parameters of the "search" for a beach holiday. The fact is that the coast of Tuscany is very different, each with its own characteristics and its own "Pros and Cons", which I tried to present more or less clearly.

The most famous resorts on the northern coast of Tuscany or Versilia (Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore, Marina di Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi) have long established themselves as prestigious places for summer holidays in Italy thanks to a well-developed infrastructure with a wide selection of hotels for every taste, expensive or traditional restaurants, cafes, evening cocktail bars. It is pleasant to walk here in the evenings - all the suburbs of Viareggio are connected by one wide promenade "Passeggio", here are the best discos in Tuscany, shops and boutiques of all famous brands. From here, excursions to the main cities of Tuscany are conveniently planned.

And now about the main thing, about the sea... Sandy beaches Apuan Riviera unusually wide, sandy bottom - shallow ( which is not very pleasant for fans of long swims, but just pleases parents with kids). The sea water is clean enough ( as far as it is generally applicable to any sandy bottom), as evidenced by the "Blue Flags of Quality" awarded only to environmentally friendly resorts in Italy. However, absolutely all local beaches are urban ( especially in Viareggio) and paid, often with 15-20 rows of tightly standing umbrellas. In Versilia, there are practically no hotels with their own beaches, there are no free beaches within walking distance from hotels, therefore, among all other expenses for recreation, you need to take into account additional payments for beach places. Thanks to constant charter flights to Pisa (from May to September) the main offers from large Russian Tour Operators are here, so there are always a lot of Russian tourists in Versilia.

Resorts of southern Tuscany ( coast of Livorno, Grosseto and Pisa) unlike Versilia, they are more democratic and less pretentious! Small resort towns and villages also have a developed infrastructure, designed mainly for Italian family tourism. The sea here is very clean, with wide sandy beaches and a convenient entry for children. Almost all hotels (3 * and 4 *) and even aparthotels in this part of the Tuscan coast have their own beaches and swimming pools, which alternate with free ("Wild") beaches accessible to everyone.

Riviera Etruscans especially convenient for day trips and excursions to all the cities of Tuscany, even if you do not plan to rent a car. However, in the evenings there is not as much entertainment as in Versilia. Fans of evening promenades overlooking the sea will not be able to "walk along the embankment", since there are no embankments in these towns either. All resort life is concentrated on one main street ( meters 500) with pizzerias, ice cream parlors and small shops for basic necessities. Recently, many people choose these places precisely because of the tranquility and ease of rest, and most importantly, because of the special, favorable microclimate of pine parks that stretch along the entire coast!

A few words about the towns themselves. Marina di Castagneto Carducci, Marina di Bibbona, Cecina Mare- quiet resort places, where mainly Italian families with children rest (there are several playgrounds, an amusement park "Cavallino matto" and a large water park). The towns are convenient for short excursions to Pisa, Volterra, Lucca, for gastronomic excursions in medieval towns and even for visiting the thermal baths.

San Vincenzo is by far the most popular resort coast of Livorno. It also has its own little "promenade" ( imagine one main street (800 meters) with a dozen different boutiques, cafes and restaurants, quite nice and calm, with resort houses of 2-3 floors), where in the evenings in the summer all vacationers pour out. In July and August, there are many activities for the entertainment of tourists, such as "white nights", fairs with tastings or open-air concerts. The newest yacht port Marina San Vincenzo, like all yacht ports on the coast, is traditionally a favorite place for evening walks and entertainment: aperitifs at sunset, dinners overlooking the yachts, evening cocktails with music.

Personally, I like the coast of Tuscany Castiglioncello- a small town near Livorno, was once the famous Dolce Vita resort of the 60s. True, here all the entertainment of tourists is concentrated on one main square, or in the nearest yacht port. But Castiglioncello does not feel like a provincial resort, perhaps because of the Italians themselves, who spend their holidays here or come for the weekend. The town still remains such a "fashionable place", where on Saturdays, colorful and quite cute "bikers" from all over Italy invariably gather, and theater festivals and concerts are held in the local Castle in spring and summer. Beginning in May, it is always quite lively in the evenings, with good restaurants and nice bars. They come here and just walk along the Promenade-embankment along the sea or in a pine park, where there is also a small playground. The main disadvantage of Castiglioncello is the beaches, of which there are not so many. Tiny beaches in coves, with a few exceptions for the paid ones with loose sand, rocky and pebbled bottom, which especially attracts lovers pure water and snorkeling.

Prestigious resorts on south coast of Tuscany are considered Punta Ala and Castiglione della Pescaya... IN Punta ala However, apart from a luxurious yacht port with expensive yachts and expensive villas hidden in the green of pine parks, there is also nothing. Main street with two or three boutiques along the pier with yachts 100 m! Unlike him in Castiglione della Pescaia very nice historic center-castle, the harbor promenade and the main street with restaurants, bars and boutiques are always lively in the evenings. In these places, perhaps the cleanest sea in Tuscany with beaches of fine light sand. But the recently appeared in the proposals of our MOT Marina di Grosseto may seem even more "democratic" than the already mentioned towns of Livorno ( by the way, it is positioned as an inexpensive vacation at sea in Tuscany).

The main disadvantages of these places are, oddly enough, the infrastructure. These resorts cannot boast of an abundance of hotels, there are very few good 3 * or 4 * hotels ( exception - three 5 * hotels in Punta Ale). In addition, it is quite difficult to get out of here on your own (without a car) on excursions around the cities of Tuscany. Still remains on the sidelines Punta Ala, hardly accessible in every sense to a wide range of tourists ( it is almost impossible to spend a vacation here without a car) and steadfastly holding the bar of a true VIP resort of Tuscany, a resort for the elite, which provides an excellent opportunity to isolate yourself from the outside world during your vacation!
