Vegetable garden according to mitlider tomatoes. Narrow beds according to the mitlider method. Fertilizing before planting vegetables according to the Meatlider

Many gardeners have heard of the method of growing in narrow and uniform beds that are built around the perimeter of the site. Some consider this option impractical, others too complicated and confusing. But those who decided to make beds according to Meatlider, note an increase in the yield of vegetables and berries already in the first season. The main thing is to follow the planting scheme, watering rules and strictly follow the recommended feeding system.

Mitlider beds - description and characteristics of technology

This technology is based on balanced nutrition, coupled with the organization of optimal and convenient conditions for various plants. They are planted in narrow, uniform beds with wider aisles between them. The standard sizes for most popular horticultural crops, including potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, and eggplants, are 10 cm wide, 45 cm high, and 105 centimeters per stroke.

In conditions greenhouse cultivation allow narrowing of these indicators up to 30 cm in width and 90 cm for aisles. Vegetables are planted in pairs, in a row, keeping the distance from the edge of the garden (10-15 cm) and between the rows (15-20 cm). The rest of the features depend on the behavior of specific crops, their root system, the degree of spreading of the bushes, the height of the stem, etc. Large crops, such as tomatoes, zucchini, squash or pumpkin, are placed when planting in one row, planting them along the edge of the garden they had room for proper growth and development.

Experts believe that the main feature and advantage of the mitlider method is uniform light distribution and improved moisture absorption after watering. In addition, such narrow mini-gardens accumulate more nutrients in the soil, which has a beneficial effect on all plants without exception.

Other features include:

  • Pure chemical composition of the fruit. Due to a special irrigation system, atmospheric precipitation does not accumulate on the beds, but immediately flows into organized wide passages, and some harmful substances, including strontium, lead or aluminum, are not deposited in the fruits.
  • Ease of caring for vegetables. Thanks to this system, all plant care is reduced to timely watering, top dressing and periodic loosening of the earth. The compact shape of the beds allows the fertilizers to be better absorbed and evenly distributed over the mini-plot, which contributes to the rapid development and improves the taste of ripe fruits.

But this technology is not suitable for all types of plots and horticultural crops, so Professor Mitlider identified some limitations that do not allow obtaining the desired effect.

Restrictions on the use of the method in the garden

The construction of narrow beds and the cultivation of vegetables in such a way alternative way inappropriate in lowlands or in areas with groundwater occurrence close to the surface. Due to precipitation and spring floods, a large amount of liquid stagnation is often formed on them, which negatively affects the narrow aisles and leads to decay of plant roots.

The location of the beds should be strictly horizontal, therefore, areas that are located on a slope and other relief terrain are not suitable for using this method, since in one part there will be a greater accumulation of water and nutrients, while the other will suffer from a shortage of them, which will lead to partial or serious loss of yield.

The method is not used in heavily shaded vegetable gardens with an uneven distribution of light, as well as in peat and clay soils... The best option is light loamy or sandy loam soil with a nearby water source. It is not recommended to organize such beds near highways or highways, the plants will absorb harmful substances from the polluted air with a vengeance. Minimum distance from such objects 100-150 meters.

Options for building beds according to Meatlider

The implementation of American technology in your garden is possible in two ways. Either they install special beds-boxes with sides, or they organize planting directly on the soil. In the first option, compact boxes of wood, polycarbonate or other suitable material are constructed, which are filled with a fertile substrate (the lower layer is natural soil, the upper layer is a nutritious soil mixture) and installed in open areas or in greenhouses.

The advantages of using this method of planting are:

  • No need to level the soil. You can place "wooden" beds on sandy, clayey and heavily eroded soils, the main thing is to properly prepare the garden substrate and choose a place to install the beds.
  • Improving winter hardiness of plants planted in small areas. The presence of walls additionally insulates garden crops during winter cold and autumn frosts. They also serve as a barrier against the penetration of some weeds and garden pests.

Open beds are placed exclusively on flat surfaces, on spacious, well-lit and ventilated areas with fertile soil. In this case, the sides are made from soil, and vegetables should grow at the same level.

The principle of care according to the Mitlider method does not depend on the chosen option. The first method is preferable for greenhouses and small vegetable gardens, in the fields or large plots using the "earthen" option.

DIY gardening

Before applying the method of growing in beds from Professor Mitlider, 4 main factors are taken into account:

  • selection of a suitable and optimal site;
  • determination of a specific method of planting vegetables;
  • development of plant placement schemes;
  • correct soil preparation.

The first stage has already been mentioned above, the best place for planting various vegetable crops is a well-lit and ventilated area with a flat surface. The most important thing is to minimize the risk of flooding or stagnant water.

The choice of the arrangement method also depends on the conditions of a particular area. If there is no need to level the plot, and the soil meets all the requirements of fertility, then natural ridges are made with a width of 40–45 centimeters and an optimal length of 7–9 meters.

It is easier to achieve a horizontal surface using boxes, they are also most preferable when building beds on depleted soil, since it is easy to add required amount nutrient substrate. The direction of the beds plays an important role, the recommendations state that it is best to form them from east to west, but in more severe climatic conditions, it is permissible to organize plantings from north to south.

When choosing a direction, take into account the characteristics of the plants that they plan to plant. Tall species are sown from north to south, the distance between large-fruited crops (cabbage, eggplants, etc.) should be 30–35 cm. Between small root crops (onions, garlic, beets, carrots) - 5–10 cm staggered.

When constructing a wooden or plastic box the last layer of soil should be a pre-prepared nutrient mixture, the components of which depend on the characteristics of the grown plants, but universal options are prepared from sand with peat and turf land in equal proportions, coniferous sawdust, perlite or fine-grained sand are also added to them. When using a completely artificial substrate, it is necessary to properly and correctly prepare complex starter fertilizers.

Do-it-yourself box construction using technology

To independently make boxes of suitable size, the following materials are required:

  • short boards (45 cm) for transverse sides;
  • long options for organizing the main walls of the box;
  • bars for supports with a section of 5x5 cm;
  • agrofibre and marking rope;
  • level, tape measure, fasteners and equipment (screws, nails, screwdriver);
  • antiseptic for wood preservation.

The first step is to mark the area with a rope, which is pulled between the wedges. The latter are installed in the corners, pre-measuring the required distances with a tape measure (45 cm wide and 1 m per passage) and leveling them along the same height.

Now all fit together wooden planks and support bars and fix them on the sides with self-tapping screws or other fasteners. Then align to building level, there should not be any transverse or longitudinal slopes. At the final stage, a layer of fertile soil is poured into the boxes, and mixed on top nutrient substrate or completely fill the container with "artificial" soil mixture, if the land on the site does not meet the requirements.

The resulting beds are fertilized with mineral pre-sowing complexes, but they do not use organic matter in the form of compost, mullein or bird droppings... Layer options may vary, the main thing is to combine fertile land, geotextile and useful substrate.

Cooking a narrow version of the Meathlider bed

To build an ordinary garden bed with your own hands, you will need all the same materials except the boards, plus garden tools- pitchfork, shovel and rake. Work begins with cleaning and preparing the site. All weeds are removed, the root residues of previous garden crops are uprooted with a pitchfork, the entire area is carefully dug up.

Then the soil is leveled with a rake, making its surface as flat as possible. Now, using a tape measure, measurements are taken and pegs are driven in at the corners. It is not recommended to save space by narrowing the aisles. The established 95-105 cm is observed so that the plants receive enough sunlight and do not shade each other as they grow.

To control the uniform height, a tight rope is pulled, then bulk sides are made and the inner section is leveled with a rake.

The level is visually checked, there should be no height differences, otherwise water will accumulate in them and the effectiveness of the method will significantly drop.

Additionally, they make a frame under winter shelter, for this, plastic arcs are installed on both sides, onto which it is then easy to pull and fasten suitable material... If all points of the instructions are followed, proceed to the preparation of seeds and the corresponding starting dressings.

Features of watering when using the method

Vegetable growing in narrow beds and small areas proceeds normally only with constant and complex irrigation of the plants planted in them. The peculiarities of the mitlider technology are in compliance with the conditions discussed below.

Root hydration. Watering is carried out only in this way, since additional irrigation of the green part of the plant and sprinkling of the soil contribute to the formation of a favorable environment for various diseases and pests.

Water should only fall on narrow beds, and the passages are left dry, for this, side wooden or earthen boards are built.

Daily summer watering. In the warm season, the soil is frequently and abundantly moistened. If it is not possible to do this constantly, then a high-quality automatic drip irrigation system is installed. The liquid should be clean, warm, with a minimum content of calcium salts and magnesium.

Watering the beds in the morning, afternoon or evening, but with the onset of August, evening approaches are stopped so as not to provoke the appearance powdery mildew, especially in some vegetable crops.

The whole process of feeding garden crops in mitlider beds is reduced to a combination of two nutrient mixtures. They are formulated with a balance of plant nutrients and trace elements, including phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen and iron. These layouts have been proven over time in various climates and are used in all countries where this planting method is used.

The first option is designed to equalize acidity and improve the calcium composition of the soil. It includes dolomite flour, boric acid or sodium borate, chalk or hydrated lime, which are introduced during the period seedbed preparation... Before using these fertilizers, the acid factor of the soil is determined as accurately as possible, for which a special device or folk remedies are used.

During the period of active vegetation of plants, mineral complexes and mixtures are used, for which superphosphate (100-110 g), carbamide (200 g), nitrophoska (420 g), potassium magnesium (270 g), boric or molybdic acid, 2 and 3 g, respectively, are combined ...

Plant feeding is carried out in three mandatory stages. For planting, 2 parts of the first mixture and 1 part of the second composition are introduced into the soil. The soil is watered abundantly at the root and the beds are dug up. Next, surface fertilization is carried out at a frequency of 1 time per week during the introduction of the liquid. Enough 60-70 grams of a mixture of the mineral complex for one standard bed.

If necessary, add additional nutrients for a separate crop, especially if it appearance indicates a lack of one of the important elements. It can be copper or zinc sulfate, manganese sulfate, etc. As practice shows, for normal productivity of popular vegetables (potatoes, beets, onions, tomatoes), it is enough to comply with the above rules and composition, as well as timely and correct watering.

The Meatlider method is a whole system of principles for working with soil, lighting, irrigation and fertilization. Applying this alternative and in many ways non-standard technology, every detail should be calculated. It is better to start with one small bed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the method and the feasibility of its application in your garden or vegetable garden.

Every gardener dreams of a good harvest at the end of the season. But not everyone succeeds. Someone complains about the weather conditions, someone about bad soil, and someone simply does not have enough time. What would you say if you found out that there is one simple, but very effective method growing vegetables at no extra cost? If you want to get two or even three crops in one season without straining your back when weeding under the scorching rays of the sun, if you are limited in the amount of water, if you have a small garden plot, then Meatlider's technology will help you solve all these numerous problems.

Farming by Meathlider

Meatlider's technology differs from other methods of growing vegetables on your own plot in a special way of plant nutrition.

Plant, getting everything you need minerals, growing rapidly, it develops a powerful root system... Such a plant calmly tolerates any weather changes, which our country is so rich in. At the end of the season, thanks to the application, you will receive an unprecedented harvest of vegetables.

Meatlider technology is ideal for beginners in gardening, as it does not require special skills and knowledge. Also this technology can be successfully applied on the most depleted soils.

The main requirement for the creation is as follows: the width of the bed should not exceed 450 mm, the length can be any, it depends only on the size of your site. Ridges can be made either from soil or from wooden boxes without a bottom.

Soil beds

Before equipping earth ridges along the Mitlider, it is necessary to dig up the prepared place and mark the passages between the ridges. They can be quite wide - up to 1 meter wide, but if you have small plot, the passages can be smaller, but not narrower than 600 mm. Clean the dug-up soil for the ridges from the roots. The more thoroughly you do this early in the season, the less time you will have to spend weeding.

Prepare a mixture of sand with fine sawdust and pour on top of the prepared narrow ridge. The height of the added mixture must be at least 200 mm.

Benefits of using soil ridges:

  1. Preparatory work is kept to a minimum.
  2. Even a beginner can handle this job.
  3. Minimum material costs.
  4. The technology is applicable to any climate and any soil.

Ridges-boxes from improvised means

The use of bed-boxes is more convenient, since the sides of the ridges are preserved. However, you can use old lumber that is not suitable for construction. In these bottomless boxes, you can grow your crop both on completely artificial soil and on two-layer soil: the first is the soil itself, the second is artificial ground... It is important to keep one condition: the width of the ridges should not exceed 450 mm.

Having made such beds once, you will use them for several years, simply adding artificial soil at the beginning of spring when it subsides.

Meathlider technology is successfully used not only outdoors, but also in greenhouses.

Benefits of using bed-boxes:

  1. Ease of manufacture.
  2. Under a layer of sand and sawdust, the soil retains the necessary moisture, which is very important for the good growth of the root system of plants.
  3. Any, even the most depleted or acidified earth is used.
  4. Due to the rapid warming up of artificial soil in the spring and the preservation of heat in the fall, the agricultural season increases.
  5. The weed problem is reduced significantly.

The basis of the method is mineral feeding

As mineral dressings, mainly mixtures consisting of borax (or boric acid) and dolomite flour... This mixture No. 1 is prepared in the proportions:

5000 g flour + 40 g borax (boric acid).

Mix No. 2 includes micro and macro elements. For example, you can use the following composition:

6000 g nitrophoska + 1000 g urea + 1000 g potassium sulfate + 1000 g magnesium sulfate + 15 g boric acid (or 25 g borax) + 15 g molybdic acid or 20 g ammonium sodium molybdate.

The prepared ridges are fertilized with these mixtures before sowing, then mineral mixture No. 2 is used for dressing.

Before sowing, mixture No. 1 should be applied to the soil in a ratio of 100 g per 1 running m if the soil is light and soft. If you have loamy, clayey or acidic soil, the ratio should be 200 g per 1 running meter. Fertilizers are sprinkled in a continuous strip in the middle of the ridge.

Mixture No. 2 is applied in the same ratio for any soil and is 50 g per 1 running meter.

Top dressing during the growth and development of plants is done every week with a mixture of No. 2. It is recommended to use 30-40 g of the mineral mixture for each running meter. In this case, one important rule must be adhered to: the maximum dose (40 g) is used with good growth and development of plants. The minimum dose (25-30 g) - if the weather conditions are unfavorable, if there is not enough sun on the site or if you have sandy or sandy loam soils.

Watering and maintenance does not take long

The initial watering of the beds according to the Meatlider method before planting should be the most generous, since the feeding is done dry. Make sure the mineral fertilizer is dissolved in the water.

In the future, when watering plants in the garden, make sure that moisture gets on the soil, and not on the plant itself. This is important, otherwise there is a high probability of the appearance of fungal diseases.

The technology of growing vegetables according to Meatlider allows watering at any time, without adhering to the obligatory rule: morning-evening. Thanks to the top layer of sand and sawdust, the natural soil retains moisture for a long time, and the plants do not suffer from drought, even on particularly hot days.

Important! In no case should you loosen the ridges! Loosening leads to severe damage to the root system of plants. It is enough to pull out those weeds that have appeared from time to time. you will be surprised and pleased with the small amount of weeds.

Advantages and disadvantages

At summer cottages and household plots less space is allocated for the beds, and more and more space is freed up for relaxation (gazebos, mini-pools, barbecue, etc.). Because of this, many summer residents and gardeners have to puzzle over how to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, peppers on the remaining hundred square meters, and even plant potatoes.

The Mitlider method in the Russian version allows you to completely abandon the annual digging of the entire garden. In the spring, the ridges are simply loosened before sowing or planting seedlings, and in the fall they are decorated with a hoe.

The artificial soil created in the boxes (a twenty-centimeter mixture of sawdust, sand, lime and mineral fertilizers) ensures that the soil under it always remains soft and moist, and prevents the growth of weeds. The roots quickly pass through the first layer and grow well in natural soil.

  • The Meatlider in the Russian version requires a decent amount of fertilizer for repeated feeding, and sometimes the installation of an irrigation system, which is not affordable for everyone.
  • A bountiful harvest, fast plant growth, no weeds - this is a gardener's dream, quite achievable thanks to modern technologies vegetable growing. • First, you need to pour a hill of fertile soil 40-50 cm high along the entire length into the center of the marked garden bed evenly. Further, starting from the middle, we rake the embankment in different directions to the marked edge. We get earthen sides and a depression in the center, which must be leveled to 30-35 cm. Only this narrow strip of land is dug up and processed. The boards are necessary to water the plants as efficiently as possible and retain nutrients at the roots.
  • , Between the ridges there are wide passages of one meter. If the site is too small, a passage of 0.6 m will be enough - do not make less, otherwise the potato bushes will create shadows for each other, and it will be inconvenient to take care of them. If there is a slope in the garden, it is recommended to make the ridges in several levels so that they are horizontal. This will ensure more efficient watering and maintenance of the plants and will give the best results. If the slope is too steep, boxes-ridges with a depth of 20 cm should be made and filled with artificially prepared soil mixture (sawdust, perlite, sphagnum moss, sand, pine bark - two or three of the listed components, without using land).

How to make Meatlider beds?

To cut weeds in the aisles, they are cultivated with a hoe or hiller. Plant residues can be accumulated to form compost, which is laid out in the beds in the fall.

The artificial soil of the top layer does not need organic fertilizers and is used annually. Thanks to the action of microorganisms, it gradually turns into compost, improves, and is enriched with humus. Humus retains nutrients from the feed, preventing them from being washed out.

Good lighting is extremely important, as shading reduces the yield by 3-4 times. Vegetables will become nitrate and will be poorly stored. For self-purification from nitrates through photosynthesis, plants need light and abundant watering.

Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Jacob R. Meatlider, having studied the problems and diseases of plants in many countries of the world, based on 55 years of experience in gardening, has developed universal cultivation methods. This approach allows you to get a bountiful harvest on any type of soil with a minimum of effort, regardless of climatic conditions, seasonality and many other conditions. How can you implement the Mitlider method in the Russian version?

Contains a large amount of nutrients, moisture reserve

The advantages of narrow beds

I have become firmly convinced that it is organic matter that can reveal all the possibilities of plants, saving time and energy. Only on good compost can one see and evaluate the quality of Western and domestic varieties: most of them are created for organic soil. I am sure: we cannot get away from organic matter. All in all, business: learning how to compost and also arrange stationary beds - once for many years.

Meatlider method

  • Bed boxes are bottomless frames that can be made from cement, logs, saws and other materials. The Meatlider method in Russian does not exclude the use of old railway sleepers. They do not harm the plants, since the creosote used for their treatment many years ago is no longer toxic.
  • Protection from adverse weather conditions, strong wind. The boxes will save the plants from prolonged downpours and flooding, and will cool the roots in the heat. Such beds can be temporarily covered with a covering material or film.
  • In most cases, narrow soil ridges are used on unprotected ground, and boxes-ridges are used in greenhouses and greenhouses. According to Meatlider, the classic length of the ridge should be 9 m, width - 45 cm, 105 cm should fall on the aisles, in total - 150 cm. A sanitary zone (1 m wide) is left along the perimeter along the fence. It is not recommended to make passages less than 105 cm, as the plants will shade each other and the space for their growth will be limited.
  • When applying the method, planning the future of the garden is extremely important: drawing up a plan, a calendar for sowing and care, marking, which only a few Russian gardeners do. Why is it important? Planning allows you to more efficiently use the available areas, get strong seedlings and take into account many conditions for plant development. For example, choose such an orientation for the beds, which provides the maximum illumination of the plants with morning and evening rays.

  • Vegetable growing on narrow ridges was developed by J. Meatlider in the 70s of the last century and brought by the author to Russia in 1989.
  • Jacob Meatlider is a supporter of the use of mineral and organic fertilizers, but he does not recommend clean manure for preparing the soil for sowing. A mixture of fertile soil with compost and organic waste humus is considered ideal for vegetable crops. What is perfect recipe composition for the soil before planting?

Fertilizer mixtures

We plant seedlings or crops in 2 rows. Row spacings should not be less than 25 cm wide. This ensures the perfect geometry of the garden and the convenience of plant maintenance. Crops with such a planting ripen at the same time, which allows farmers to use the garden more than once a season.

After marking, dig up the beds (do not touch the aisles), at the same time adding pre-sowing fertilizer to the soil, and make bumpers of the ground 10 cm high. The bumpers will make it easier for you to water the beds, help save water and fight weeds. Between the sides in the beds there should be Smooth surface at least 30 cm wide. Mark two rows of holes on the surface in a checkerboard pattern with a distance of about 30 cm between holes in a row and a hole depth of 8-10 cm. Add 1 tablespoon to each hole. vermicompost, put potatoes on top and level the hole.

- potatoes from 150 sq.m. according to this method, it yields a harvest of up to 700 kg, which is quite enough to provide a family of 4 with supplies for the whole winter.

Before planting the seedlings, the boxes are filled with artificial soil, applied year after year, but by no means natural. A mixture can be prepared from 2-3 materials listed below:

The growing season lengthens as the artificial soil warms up faster.

Russian fertilizers against mitlider chemicals

But the dimensions are adjusted taking into account the area of the site and other conditions, so the Mitlider method in the Russian version is quite feasible. For example, if the greenhouse is illuminated by direct sunlight in the morning, evening and during the day, the size of the aisles can be narrowed down to 90 cm. If there is not enough space, the length of the beds and the width of the aisles can be reduced to 75 - 60 cm. The width depends on the variety. Tall tomatoes can be grown in boxes 30 cm wide in one row. For spreading plants (zucchini, pumpkins, watermelons), beds and aisles in classic mitlider sizes will be required.

  • The Mitlider system in the Russian version can be realized through cultivation on narrow soil ridges, in boxes-ridges and in a suspended state on vertical supports. On narrow beds, plants are planted in one or two rows (opposite or staggered), taking into account the characteristics of crop growth. First, earthen sides are formed along the edges of the bed to retain water. Then the seedlings are planted on the inside of the sides. In boxes-ridges, a two-layer soil is created: artificial soil is poured onto natural soil and planted in the same way.
  • Part 99 - We plant ornamental plants. Kalina Buldenezh
  • No stagnant water
  • But blind copying of techniques and advice, even the best, will lead nowhere. There must be a creative approach to understanding the biological laws of the culture itself, and the processes occurring during its cultivation. Meatlider has one drawback (this is my opinion) when using mineral fertilizers, the taste of the fruit is unnatural. To fix this, instead of mineral dressings, I use humus, ash, manure, herbal infusion, etc. (I am a supporter of organic fertilizers). I am for a clean ecological product.

Meatlider method in Russian. Transformation

At the end of summer, on a 10 m2 plot of land, we lay out straw 10-15 cm thick, then a layer of manure - 15-20 cm, then a layer of peat 15-20 cm.On top, everything is sprinkled with phosphate rock with lime (1: 1) and more times it is poured with manure 15-20 cm. Cover all this with a thin layer of earth and leave until spring.

  1. Fences for Meathlider beds are best made of slate: the material is easy to find and it is easy to cut pieces of the desired size from it
  2. Planting potatoes according to Meathlider means careful maintenance of the ridges with top dressing, watering and weed control. You will need to make sure that the soil under the potatoes does not dry out, and that each plant gets the same amount of water and feeding.
  3. The Meatlider method is not only suitable for open ground, but also successfully used in greenhouses, greenhouses and even in boxes on the windowsill or on the balcony. Narrow beds, cleanliness, neatness and neatness are the main differences of this common method. And most importantly, there is a continuous process of vegetables ripening in the beds: seedlings rise in one bed, fruit ovaries are formed in the second, the harvest takes place in the third, and in the fourth, the plants are harvested and the soil is prepared for the next batch of seeds.
  4. Sawdust, fine as dust.

How to fill the boxes-ridges?

When growing vegetables according to Meathlider, it is recommended to use two types of mixtures for fertilization:

Why is it recommended to leave wide aisles between the beds? To make it convenient to water (there is a place for accumulators, barrels for water), to fight pests, weeds, diseases, to harvest in a timely manner. Plants are clearly visible and are not damaged when walking along the aisles. Optimal watering allows the leaves and stems to grow well. Wide walkways provide space for plants to spread out and get more light.

  • In addition, the doctor considered it very important to properly feed and feed plants with mixtures of simple mineral fertilizers. In order to prevent plant burns, top dressing is placed 8-10 cm from the plant stem. The strength and health of plants significantly affect the quality of the soil. Strong seedlings actively enrich the soil with root secretions, which make up up to 20% of the plant mass.
  • Part 100 - Trigonella or Mushroom Herb
  • Does not require hilling,
  • But one should not perceive mineral fertilizer as a poison. The only thing is to keep the dose. It is better not to feed the plant than to overfeed it.
  • During germination and ripening, vegetables especially need enhanced nutrition. Top dressing on narrow ridges should be done weekly. For vegetables and greens grown according to the Meatlider method, the following composition of fertilizers is required: potassium and phosphorus in equal proportions, nitrogen, molybdenum, magnesium and zinc. Finished fertilizers are used at the rate of 60 grams per 1 m of the ridge.
  • The advantages of a Meathlider soil bed are obvious:
  • Top dressing should be applied

  • - Mix 1. Lime fertilizer (boron and calcium) applied before planting. It is consumed for one running meter of the mitlider's bed: 100 g (light soil) or 200 g (heavy soil). Light soils include sandy, heavy - clay and peat.

Meatlider's method in Russian version. Reviews

How to apply the method of Dr. Mitlider in the Russian version for an inclined site? In a vegetable garden with a strong slope, it is recommended to make horizontal terraces with boxes-ridges. To calculate everything accurately, you will need a drawing of a site with future ridges.

Sprinkler irrigation, which only promotes weed growth, is not used. Only the ridges are watered. The seedlings are irrigated at the soil level, which prevents the development of mold on the leaves and saves water.

Meatlider method for growing a high yield of potatoes

Does not require weeding - if the bed is mulched

For which I am especially grateful to J. Meatlider - for the development of narrow beds. Although Meatlider does not recommend placing the box on narrow beds, I did put together boxes. Nature itself told me this. In the spring, many suburban areas are flooded, the water does not have time to drain, there is water in the passages. We have the same problem in late August and early September - it rains day and night. And in the middle of summer, the rain can pour 2 - 3 days, or it can fill the whole garden in half an hour.The main advantage of these beds is their constant quality, over the years, with proper care and proper fertilization, beds according to the Meatlider method will give you an excellent harvest Neat and clean vegetable garden;

First, as soon as the shoots sprout, then - when the shoots grow up to 15 cm, the last time - before the budding of the potatoes. It is not necessary to huddle the bushes.

Advantages of the Meatlider method:

Peat.

  • - Mixture 2. Mineral mixture for regular feeding once a week (potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen, magnesium, molybdenum, boron). It is consumed in 60 gr. by 1 m.
  • For tall plants, vertical trellises can be used, and the beds with them are best placed from west to east to provide access to the sun for each plant in the morning. The doctor also recommended placing greenhouses and greenhouses in the direction from west to east. For low-growing plants, the orientation of the ridges is not particularly important, but they must be planted on the south side of the high ones so that they are not shaded.
  • Studying the timing of planting each crop, taking into account regional characteristics and frosts.

Part 1 - How to make tall beds Does not require digging, only loosening by 7 - 10 cm. Therefore, raising the bed 15-25 cm above the path solves this problem. The width of the ridge is 60 - 100 cm, the length is arbitrary. The gap between the beds is 60 - 80 cm. It only seems that the earth in the aisles is walking without benefit. It is the passages that work, and how!

It is not for nothing that Mitlider's method is so fond of Russian agronomists. Convenient and efficient beds provide several times more vegetable yield than conventional soil gardens. It is definitely worth trying this method, and you will see how your heavy garden work... Create narrow beds using the Meatlider method and get the most out of your farming experience and, of course, a rich harvest. Good luck!

How to plant potatoes according to Meathlider

Maximum effect from watering and fertilization;

Video about growing potatoes according to the Meatlider method From one narrow bed over the summer, you can harvest different vegetables several times; Styrofoam balls. For nutrition and health of soils can be used organic fertilizers... At the same time, it is important to remember that organic matter must warm up well, overheat, turn into compost, then, under the influence of heat, weed seeds will become unviable. In addition to weeds, non-rotten fertilizers can cause plant diseases and increase the number of pests. The microflora living in the compost suppresses the causative agents of such diseases and improves the properties of the soil. Clearing the area for the ridges, marking is carried out in the fall, and soil preparation, loosening, digging - only before planting, which allows you to reduce the growth of weeds.

Is it worth using the Meatlider methods on your site? To answer this question, let us consider all their advantages and disadvantages in the conditions of Russian reality.

Part 2 - Maslov Tomatoes

Success depends on proper care

You can plant early, as the beds in spring heats up faster than an ordinary vegetable container is a high bed, the walls of which are made of bricks, logs, beams, boards, stone, slate ... The beds are stretched from north to south. The passages between them can be covered with sand, sawdust, roofing felt, etc. I preferred the lawn, which I cut once a month with a trimmer. I covered some passages with sawdust. The beauty of the garden leaves no one indifferent. There are no weeds, the site is clean and beautiful.At the request of many of my friends, I will tell you how I grow vegetables. In this way, many summer residents are already planting. I will try to explain to you. I work therefore on country cottage area I can only go on weekends. At the same time, you need to rest after a week of work, eat a barbecue, take a steam bath, and do a little work on the ground. Currently, there are several problems in gardening: Soil fertility is declining. The earth becomes dense, depleted and gray in color. A drop in fertility leads to a decrease in the harvest.

Amicable ripening of the crop;

By choosing to grow potatoes according to the Meatlider method, you will ensure yourself a guaranteed yield, because it is a win-win method that combines the best methods of hydroponics (growing without soil) and vegetable growing on natural soil. The narrow ridges provide plants with optimal access to the nutrients in the soil and allow the economical use of water. On any type of soil, with the choice of any variety of potatoes, you can achieve high yields with a minimum of financial costs.

How to make beds according to the Meatlider method: narrow beds in the Russian way

Plants give amicable shoots and ripen almost simultaneously;

Garden beds created using Mitlider technology

Perlite.

The Meatlider method in the Russian version is most often the use of manure. Well-rotted compost or manure humus is brought in in the spring for digging and in preparation for planting. Application of top dressing for 0.5-1 buckets per 1 m. The ridge can be combined with filling the earth with mixtures 1 and 2. When applying more buckets (up to three), it is recommended to refuse to fill the soil with the second mixture.

Vegetable growing on narrow ridges gives results on any soil, including depleted soil. The Meatlider method in the Russian version is not so difficult to apply. Making such beds is simple and easy even for beginners, they do not require much preparatory work. The beds using this method are inexpensive. The preparation of soil rows does not require any expenses at all, and boxes-ridges are a minimum (it is not necessary to use expensive materials, you can use old slate, uncracked boards, etc.). To create soil rows, unlike box-beds, you do not need additional materials, therefore, Meatlider is becoming more and more popular in Russia.

Advantages of the method

Narrow beds in a large area

In narrow beds, it is easy to do crop rotation. Where you planted onions last year, this year you can plant carrots or cabbage. The beds are all the same width.

  • Box - the box is filled with organic matter. Plant residues (grass, straw, foliage) are put down, then compost or manure, or spill with herbal infusions and the like; the top layer is filled with earth from the aisles. Thus, the box is filled in. The use of mineral fertilizers and pesticides leads to contamination of soil, water, air and food, which leads to human diseases.
  • Convenience of processing the beds. Working in the garden is very time consuming. Efforts are not always justified and we, in despair, mentally promise ourselves not to mess with the beds anymore, but to buy vegetables in the markets. However, disappointment quickly comes with the quality of the collective farm harvests, and we are again ready to "plow" in our own vegetable garden. Today we will talk about a method that will allow you to get the maximum yield from the beds with minimal effort. Meet the Meatlider beds.
  • Narrow beds provide higher yields than regular beds and take up less space. Pumice.

Many Russian gardeners use the method of narrow ridges, but they often refuse mineral dressings (mixtures 1 and 2). This is due to the fact that the active use of fertilizers without appropriate knowledge in crop production does not always give the desired result. The method of Dr. Mitlider in the Russian version often involves the use of humus, compost, green infusion of herbs, solution with manure, ash, etc. What are the advantages of natural dressing, what are the disadvantages associated with the use of mitlider mixtures?

On simple ridges from the soil, it is necessary to periodically apply well-decomposed organic fertilizers to form humus, and only mineral supplements will be required in the boxes during the preparatory period.

  • Cons of the method
  • Part 16 - The smallest cucumbers: a jar of mayonnaise fits up to 120 fruits
  • The yield increases by 100% or more.
  • Each bed is 2 rows of vegetables, planted along the edges in a checkerboard pattern between the vegetables. In this geometry, a huge reserve of productivity is hidden, it has long been noticed: the extreme plant develops almost twice as well as those in the middle - they have much more light and space for growth. And here - all the plants are extreme. A wide row spacing is needed in order to give them light and space. A small area of organic matter gives more than a large area of soil. Anyone who has worked on narrow ridges for at least one season is convinced of the enormous possibilities of this method and simply cannot return to traditional technology... Working on the ridges, a person experiences joy not only from a good harvest, but also from the very process of growing vegetables.

Traditional agricultural techniques used by most gardeners are very laborious. And this reduces interest in gardening among young people.

It is a pleasure to take care of narrow beds, and if at the same time you remember that soon they will give an excellent harvest, then you will take up a hoe and a watering can every day

Ridges with wooden sides according to the Meatlider method

Judging by the fact that the American D. Meatlider is so eager to facilitate human labor, he definitely has Russian roots. A creative approach to agriculture allowed the scientist to develop a unique methodology for creating beds and become an honorary UN expert on agricultural issues.

When wood ridges are good

  • Narrow beds on one hundred square meters will occupy only a third of the area, and the harvest will give
  • Sphagnum moss.
  • The use of mineral fertilizers affects the taste of the fruit, many gardeners do not like this. And thanks to the replacement of mineral dressings with natural organic fertilizers, you can get an environmentally friendly harvest.
  • Benefits for plants

It allows you to get a good harvest of any plant in a small area, regardless of the climate and the initial state of the soil.

Part 17 - Growing Tomatoes in Containers

Tubers, root crops are clean with no visible signs of disease

The beauty of the vegetable garden, which looks more like a park, leaves no one indifferent. There are no weeds, the site is clean and beautiful.

#1. Fertilizing the soil before planting

Nevertheless, all these problems can be easily solved if Natural is used instead of traditional farming. Such agricultural technology not only preserves, it also restores soil fertility. The consequence is an increase in the yield of horticultural crops. Mineral fertilizers are not used, which preserves the purity of Nature and preserves human health. A number of gardening operations in natural agricultural technology are used less frequently than in traditional ones. And some are completely absent from it. All this reduces the labor intensity of land cultivation and plant care.

The harvest from the beds is very impressive, which is why domestic gardeners liked this method so much.

# 2. Top dressing during crop growth

Not only do the beds made according to the Meatlider method give an amazing harvest, they also look very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing on the site.

Igor Lyadov's amazing vegetable garden or vegetable growing on narrow ridges by J. Meatlider

It is better not to feed the plants with fertilizers than to overfeed, since an excess of nitrates will harm health.

Ground rows
Suitable for vegetable growing both in the open field and in greenhouses.

Part 18 - Igor Lyadov's amazing garden

Beautiful and easy to use.

In two rows in a checkerboard pattern, I plant cabbage, eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, etc.

In my opinion, it is more important to return to nature and forget the postulate that the soil should be stuffed with fertilizers, torn with shovels and sprinkled with pesticides. Natural farming is, first of all, gentle tillage, protecting it from temperature extremes, returning nutrients that the land has generously given to the plants.
Box ridges can be described as wooden boxes with artificial soil, standing on the ground. The sizes of such beds can be either narrow (up to 35 cm) or wide (120-150 cm).

The essence of the Meatlider method of the garden bed is the cultivation of densely planted vegetables in narrow open ridges. There are two types of beds along the Meathlider: earthen shaped rows and box beds with wooden sides. Both methods are good, but for widespread farming, the open method is more often chosen, and for small household beds, the onboard method is chosen. Consider both options, and you will choose the one you need for yourself.
Than on a weave sown in the usual way. Consequently, you will not only get 15% more vegetables, but you will also need to cultivate a third less land. A high yield is ensured by regular irrigation, balanced feeding and good light provided by narrow rows with wide aisles.

Crushed, shredded coconut or walnut shells.
In order for the minerals to dissolve and be absorbed, abundant watering and sunny weather are required, which is not always compatible with the weather conditions of some regions. In addition, it is important to know that abundant watering on some days is useful, and on others it is harmful to plants, while the periods of their development must be taken into account. For each crop, its own method of irrigation is suitable: for some - sprinkling, and for others in dry weather - under the root.

Ridge boxes

Plants become healthier and stronger, the yield increases several times.

Part 19 - Greens are so different
Takes up a minimum of space, does not create dirt and clutter.

In four or three rows, I plant onions, garlic, beets, salads, radishes, carrots, etc.
Every spring, when we come to our summer cottage, we sow or plant vegetables in our beds. The size of the beds is from 1.4 meters to 2 meters wide, the paths between them are from 20 cm to 40 cm maximum. This is called the traditional way of planting vegetables in the garden. The plant in such beds, especially in the middle, often gets sick, is subject to decay, from this they develop poorly, the vegetables are small, they are not stored for a long time. But for pests, a weakened plant and good nutrition, and offspring can be laid near it. To weed, to process such beds is one torment.

Box beds are especially beneficial in places where the soil is often flooded and plant roots rot (lowlands);

Video on the topic of the article:
Video about the Meatlider method

Styrofoam in granules (heat-insulating foam).
In the presence of manure humus (not fresh manure, but thoroughly rotted manure compost), you can abandon the method of fertilizing according to the Meatlider.
Earthen bumpers (8-10 cm high) along the edges of the ridges contribute to the formation of a favorable microclimate for seedlings.
Time, labor and weeding and maintenance costs are minimal.

Part 20 - Black radish
It is very convenient to make a shelter with plastic arches, which are sold in seed stores. We put 2 pegs on both sides of the bed and put an arc on them. The distance between the arcs is about a meter. Depending on the length of the bed, you set the required number of arcs. Covering material or film can be used over the arcs until the threat of frost has passed.
Disadvantages Requires material costs in the first year for the construction of the garden. This tiny flaw makes the container inaccessible to most summer residents.
But on such a bed, I saw one positive side... The extreme plants, relative to those located in the middle, looked more worthy. The larger ones are not susceptible to disease and are convenient to weed, thin out, etc.
It is also good to place wooden ridges on soils unsuitable for growing vegetables (sand, stones, clay, salt marshes, etc.);
To create narrow beds along the Meathlider, we will consider step-by-step work... The first thing to determine is the place for the garden, then mark it wooden beams and you can proceed to the garden bed itself.

The potato planting area should be flat and well lit during the day. Dig up the ground thoroughly, freeing it of weeds and rhizomes so that not a single root is hidden from your eyes. Now you can start marking by driving in pegs about 40 cm high in the four corners of the beds and pulling ropes between the pegs.
Many gardeners confirm the high efficiency of the narrow bed method in Russian conditions, especially when growing vegetables. It is very convenient to treat them from weeds, to huddle them. They make it easy to allocate space for certain vegetables, taking into account the yield of the last season. The Mitlider method in the Russian version, reviews of which are mostly positive, has a low labor intensity, saves time, effort, and is indispensable for the elderly.
Mastering the Meatlider method in the vastness of Russia, our gardeners made their own adjustments to it:
During watering, the sides retain water and fertilizers along with it. Fertilizers do not burn the plants, as they accumulate in the middle of the ridge and inhibit the growth of weeds.
Substantial water savings.
Part 21 - My Favorite Daikon
It is this system of narrow beds that allows me to get constantly high yields, independent of the vagaries of the weather and the conditions of the site itself.
Benefits
I also thought about one more factor. A single tree along the alleys within the city, no one feeds it, the foliage that it throws off and then they try to remove it for appearance and beauty. Although this foliage could serve as a tree feeding. So how does this tree exist and where does it get its nourishment? In recent years, scientists have found that about 60% of the plant takes its food from the air. It's interesting, of course.
Ready soil - a guarantee of the absence of diseases, pests and weeds;
The layout of the beds according to the mitlider method is quite simple: the sides for the beds are made of any materials, including ordinary earth. The row spacing should be in the area of one meter, and the width of the bed itself should be in the area of half a meter

Standard narrow ridges have
Gardening according to Meathlider allows you to create almost ideal conditions for farming; protect plants from any adverse weather conditions: heavy rains, strong winds and high summer temperatures; get rich harvests on depleted or problem soil. The method of Dr. Meatlider in Russia has been used for a long time and deservedly won an army of fans.

Many cut the aisles, leaving the width of the beds unchanged. Here, everything is determined by the type and variety of the planted crop. Passages of 45-50 cm are suitable for onions, dill, radishes, carrots, beets, etc. For cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, zucchini and others (depending on the variety), wider passages from 65 to 100 cm are left.

Most families in Russia need to grow vegetables and fruits with their own hands. Land plots are owned by the absolute majority of Russian families, both living in rural areas and urban citizens. At the same time, it is worth noting that citizens living within the city have much less land than those who live permanently outside the city. And the average area for one family rarely exceeds the standard 6 acres. This raises the question of how it is possible in such seemingly meager areas to seriously hope for successful cultivation vegetables in such an amount, which would be quite enough for the whole family, until the next harvest next year. And even try to leave a place for flower beds on the territory, fruit trees and berry bushes... Mitlider vegetable growing, which has become very popular in Russia, can help solve such complex problems.

The main requirements for the area allocated for planting vegetables are as follows: good lighting, a source of water for timely irrigation, the chemical composition of the soil, avoidance of flooding the site.

The cultivation of potatoes and vegetables has become a traditional occupation of the townspeople since the 1930s, when, by order of the CCP, 1,500,000 plots were assigned to individual orchard workers. At the same time, it was determined that for one eater, as they were then called, 3 acres of fertile or 5 acres of bad, poor land was intended. Therefore, a garden for a working family consisting of 4 people was intended for a plot of 12.5 or up to 25 acres of land.

The history of the introduction of innovations in Russia

The layout of the beds along the Meathlider.

Since then, the area of the allotments has not changed. The volumes of the harvested crops have not changed either. After all, the old method is still widespread: wide raised beds, narrow paths, liming once in decades, fertilizing with ash, compost and manure, not out of necessity, but only when the opportunity arises. Sometimes all fertilization work consisted of throwing only a handful of ash and compost into the ground, which did not contain anything other than vegetation that had rotted over the last summer season. All this does not lead to an increase in soil fertility, but to the degradation of soil qualities.

Statistics from the 80s and 90s show that up to 1 kg of humus flew away annually from each plot of Russian landowners to nowhere. Since then, few people have begun to competently maintain their lands, but only continued to squeeze all the strength and juices out of the available square meters of soil. AND traditional methods Russian agronomists relied only on the fact that a large, rich harvest can be grown only on a huge plot of land - up to 50 acres.

The latest innovations in the cultivation of vegetables and potatoes allow for good yields.

The most popular method was growing vegetables according to the mitlider, which came to Russia 11 years ago.

The scheme of the sizes of the beds.

This period turned out to be enough to now talk not about empty theoretical inventions, but about real facts that indicate that for 1 consumer of vegetables and potatoes it will be enough to allocate only 40 m² of land to feed themselves during the calendar year. This means that for a family of 4 people, 1.5 acres will be quite enough. And this result was achieved by those gardeners and gardeners who used in the very first year of the transition to planting in narrow ridges, while there was no dependence of volumes harvested from the original qualities of the soil or external conditions that were observed throughout the summer cottage season.

Thousands of gardeners from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok heard about the innovative cultivation of vegetables on narrow ridges and expressed a desire to learn all its features.

Narrow ridges are a reliable way to achieve high yields

The layout of the beds according to Meatlider.

The horticultural technology known as the Meatlider method involves growing vegetables in simple, narrow ridges with high productivity. It is not yet possible to find any other way of providing the family with vegetables from one small piece of land on which the whole family works. The method of planting on narrow ridges is rapidly gaining popularity among enthusiastic growers who are not afraid to try something new. According to rough estimates, in the summer of 1999, in central Russia alone, tens of thousands of Russian farmers began to grow vegetables on narrow ridges. These results prompted, from a scientific point of view, to try to determine the secret of the popularity of Meatlider vegetable growing among Russians. And in this regard, it was necessary to identify all the positive features inherent in the Meatlider method.

The elements that make up the narrow bed method:

  • the beds should have a standard width of 45 cm, and intermediate paths between them are organized 2 times wider than the ridges themselves;
  • the beds are on the same level with the paths and are separated by clay fences;
  • the surface of the ridges should be strictly horizontal;
  • most vegetable crops are planted on ridges in 2 rows, and especially large options in 1 row;
  • to grow each crop, you need to know at what distance in a row they should be planted, how many times they need to be fed during the growing season;
  • during the period of digging the ridges, it is necessary to make special mixtures containing unique fertilizers, a complex of which can be purchased at any garden store;
  • top dressing consists in the fact that a mixture of fertilizers in a dry form is poured into the ground, right between 2 rows of sown plants. The dry mixture dissolves gradually, with the help of subsequent watering;
  • the soil in the beds is not recommended to be loosened and watered, only as needed, while trying to avoid drying out the top layer;
  • weeds with such a planting are easily and quickly destroyed by mechanical means.

Back to the table of contents

Positive features of the Meatlider method of growing vegetables

First of all, the immediate results are noted. Everyone who planted plants got rich harvests of vegetables High Quality already in the first season, without the use of herbicides and weeding the garden.

Secondly, it became possible to attract a vegetable grower to obtain a high productivity of a vegetable garden on a minimal area. So, from the territory of the vegetable garden located in the backyard, a family of 4-5 people will receive a sufficient amount of the crop. In addition to traditional crops that have long been grown in the non-black earth, amateur growers began to grow exotic exhibits on narrow ridges. For example, sweet corn, leeks, various cabbage crops (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, Savoyard and Chinese cabbage), chard, spices and even medicinal herbs.

The third plus is that all these, at first glance, fabulous achievements of a vegetable grower are quite realistic to get with a minimum investment of time and physical strength. The technology is so simple and the instructions are so clear and easy to follow that there is no fuss or waste of time. The most laborious operations, according to the Meatlider method, are called digging a garden and parallel removal of the roots of perennial weeds, plus the breakdown of narrow ridges. At the same time, the beds are never recommended to change places with paths, which, by the way, are never dug up. Vegetable growing on narrow ridges is called labor-saving technology, which is why it is especially attractive for modern gardeners and gardeners.

Basics of the Meatlider method

Plant nutrition table according to Meathlider.

The use of this technology even for the most inexperienced gardeners ensures successful work. The only condition is the careful implementation of the recommendations, which are simple and clear, so there is nowhere to get confused. Having suffered a little in the first season, you will get a rich harvest, and in the future - free from weeds and surprisingly clean and beautiful vegetable garden... Vegetable crops will not only give a rich harvest, they will also be sweet, juicy, aromatic, rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals, pectin and have an attractive appearance. Moreover, vegetables planted according to the Meatlider method are perfectly preserved until the next harvest. In 1989, when this method was first introduced in Russia, scientists took several vegetables and analyzed them for the presence of nitrates. The result turned out to be negative, which serves as further evidence of the environmental friendliness of growing vegetables according to new system- in narrow beds.

At first glance, it may seem unlikely that such a set of a few very simple steps will lead to such outstanding results. Some of the techniques suggested by Meatlider may seem incredibly strange.

What you need to know when choosing a site?

The main requirements for the area allocated for planting vegetables are as follows:

  • this place should be well lit;
  • there must be a source of water for timely irrigation;
  • under no circumstances should the site be flooded;
  • soil chemistry, location and climatic conditions may vary, but the above requirements cannot be violated.

There will be no harvest without sunshine

The dimensions of the Mitlider greenhouse.

You can get the maximum yield with the lowest material costs for fertilization if you place the beds in a place constantly illuminated by the sun. The more shade, the more money you have to spend on buying fertilizers. After all, nothing replaces fertilizers better than natural solar lighting... Most sun-loving vegetables, such as tomatoes and squash, experience stress even with minor light losses, resulting in an increase in leaf mass. A further reduction in daylight hours will lead to large crop losses and, accordingly, to a decrease in the quality of planted vegetables. But that's not all. A crop that does not receive enough sunlight will look weakened and become easy prey for all kinds of pests and disease-causing microbes. When plants are planted in highly shaded areas, they can be completely destroyed by pests, in which case no chemical protection will help them.

If your garden or vegetable garden is unevenly lit, then try to plant vegetables in the brightest place. It can be determined in early spring: it will be where the snow melts most quickly. If fruit or ornamental plants are unevenly located in the garden, then it is not advised to make vegetable beds between them. It would be more correct to completely reform the garden plot.

Drought is the enemy of all living things

Scheme of air exchange in the Mitlider greenhouse.

Vegetables require a lot of moisture at all times, which indicates the need for water on site for irrigation. Without a reliable source of moisture, no garden can function normally, and its productivity will be significantly reduced. This is also indicated by the fact that the total mass of vegetables is 75-96% water. The volume of the crop determines the amount of organic matter that is produced in the process of photosynthesis. This process can only occur when the plant receives a sufficient amount of water and sunlight. In the case of a reduction in watering, photosynthesis slows down, and then can completely stop. This irreversible process usually begins much earlier than the moment when the first signs of wilting of the plant are visible to your eye.

In sunny and too hot weather, many noticed how hard the plants feel: they lower and curl the leaves, thereby reducing their area so that as little water as possible evaporates from the surface. Moreover, even from a soil rich in minerals, a plant will not be able to take a sufficient amount of them if it does not regularly receive water.

Correct and moderately abundant watering together with good lighting able to give tremendous results in terms of fruitfulness.

Soil for narrow ridges

Gardeners do not have to worry about this, since almost any type of soil is suitable for narrow beds. Although you can name some options: for example, medium or light loam, the chemical composition of which can be called ideal. It is advisable to add sand to heavy clay soil. But this can also not be done, since over time, with an annual planting, the chemical composition of the soil will normalize by itself.

Sandy soil is less favorable. Planting vegetables according to the Meatlider method into it, you definitely will not be left without a crop. Over time, you can also try to improve it by adding clay, and try to maintain a constant level of humus. It is not customary to use manure and compost fertilizers on narrow ridges, but it is also impossible to leave the soil without organic matter. Peat soils are considered the worst option.

(19 estimates, average: 4,37 out of 5)

About mitlider beds experienced gardeners well heard. What about newbies or those who have never used this technology?

Jacob Meatlider has been studying the characteristics, problems and diseases of agricultural plants for 55 years in different countries the world. Which helped him develop his versatile methods of growing plants, regardless of the type of soil, climatic conditions and other factors. Thanks to this method, you can harvest a decent harvest of vegetables. while spending a minimum of effort and energy.

Pros and cons of the Mittlider vegetable garden

Pros:

  • a good harvest of any plant is obtained, which does not depend on the size of the site and the condition of the soil.
  • this method is ideal for both vegetable gardens and greenhouses and greenhouses.
  • the plants become healthier, which positively affects the quality of the crop.
  • material and physical costs are reduced to a minimum.
  • great savings in water resources.
  • wide passages always remain dry, which does not allow pests to safely penetrate into the ridges.

Minuses:

  • necessary a large number of light, since its absence can reduce the yield by 3-4 times.
  • this method may not be used in all areas. These include: lowlands, northern slopes and peat bogs.

But how to implement the Mittlider method in Russian with your own hands?

First you need to figure it out what is the essence of the beds according to the Meatlider method. So, let's begin: The whole secret of this method is that the plants receive everything they need for growth not from the depths of the earth, where moisture and nutrients may not be available, but from the inter-bed groove.

At this depth is the fertilizer prepared in the fall and water passes well, which must be supplied every day. Then the roots do not go deep into the earth, but are in the upper layer of the earth.

The Meathlider beds should be very close to each other, which leads to competition among the plants and minimizes the appearance of weeds.

Landing on the Meathlider has its own characteristics:

  • the first and very important point is planning both the vegetable garden and the calendar of sowing and care. This point is very important and cannot be ignored as it allows you to effectively divide the available area and take into account all the features of plant development. The entire plot is divided into regular beds, which are used for several seasons. It is very important that they warm up well, ventilate and retain moisture. Also no less important is the height of the soil mixture, which should not exceed 10-15 cm.
  • Russian beds can be used in several ways: growing on narrow ridges or in box beds. Growing in narrow beds is very popular, because with this method, physical effort is minimized and it is convenient to collect weeds on them. In the new season, it is easy to estimate the harvest from the previous year and adjust the beds for some plants. Most often, the length of the ridge is 4.5 cm or 9 cm, the width does not exceed 45 cm, and the passage between the beds is 90 cm. The second type of cultivation according to the Mitlider method is relevant for cold climates or stony soil. The meaning of this view is that special beds-boxes without a bottom and half covered with soil, and on the other artificial half, you can also use sawdust mixed with sand.
  • The third and no less important point is fertilization. Top dressing should be placed 8-10 cm from the stem to avoid scalding the plant.
  • The fourth and final feature is the study of the timing of planting and harvesting, taking into account the regional climate.

Have you decided to make mitlaid beds and don't know where to start?

For starters, it is important to think about fertilization for the future vegetable garden. In no case do not use fresh manure, as it will begin to rot and humus will form, which is not at all provided for the Meatlider vegetable garden.

The best option is to buy straw in the fall and spread it out on the beds, but so that its height does not exceed 15 cm and, also about 20 cm of manure and peat. We fill all this goodness on top with lime and phosphate rock, they should be mixed equally and cover the top with a small layer of earth. Over the winter, this mixture will overtake in the spring, you will get an excellent soil mixture for growing plants.

Now let's look at the main stages of the robots:

1) first you need to carefully dig up the soil and pull out all perennial weeds.

2) align the plot.

3) mark the ridges using a lath marker.

4) hammer in the stakes along the edges of the site and tighten them with a cord.

How to make do-it-yourself Meathlider beds?

Narrow soil beds are most often used on unprotected ground, and box beds in greenhouses and hotbeds. As we have already said, the optimal length of the ridge along the Meatlider is 9 m, the width is 45 cm, and the passage between them is at least 90 cm. But the size of the beds can be adjusted depending on various factors, including: climate, area of the site and other conditions.

For example, if a greenhouse or greenhouse is well lit during the day, then the size of the passage can be left 90 cm, if it is not well lit, it is better to increase the passage to 100-104 cm.The width can also be adjusted depending on the variety... So, tall vegetables (tomatoes) can be grown in beds 30 cm wide, and spreading plants (watermelons, pumpkins) are better with standard mitlaid parameters.

So why is it so important to leave wide aisles?

There are tons of answers to this question. That would be convenient to water the crop; collect it in a timely manner while walking around the garden, the harvest will not suffer; it is convenient to deal with weeds, moles, etc.

Narrow beds in Russian

The peculiarity of this technology is that an excellent harvest is obtained from any soil, even depleted soil. It will not be difficult to make such ridges. both sharks in this business, and beginners. This method is gaining more and more popularity in Russia, since additional materials are not required at all to create soil rows, unlike box beds.

This technology has great advantages:

1) such beds are much easier to handle than wide ones.

2) plants in narrow beds get much more light and room to grow.

3) the sides during irrigation retain water and fertilizers well, which will have a positive effect on the yield.

Fertilizer mixtures

When planting vegetables according to Meathlider, you must use 2 types of fertilizer mixture:

Mix No. 1: before planting vegetables lime fertilizers must be used. For 1 meter of such a bed, it is necessary to use 100 g of the mixture for light soil and 200 g for heavy soil. The light ones are sandy, the heavy ones are clay and peaty soils.

Mix number 2: once a week you need to use top dressing. Use in the amount of 60 grams per 1 meter.

Organic fertilizers can also be used. When using such fertilizers, it must be remembered that they should warm up well and turn into compost, and only then, under the influence of the sun, the weed seeds will become unviable. Non-rotting compost can cause disease in plants and increase the number of pests.

What do professional gardeners think about this method?

The Meatlider method in Russia is in great demand and unprecedented success. Most Russian gardeners give positive feedback to this method. Since thanks to the Meatlider method, you can create excellent conditions for vegetable growing: to get a good harvest not only from fertile soil, but also from problematic and depleted, protect plants from all adverse conditions... Also, when using this method, it will not be difficult to successfully distribute the available meters for certain vegetables and adjust these figures after the first harvest.
