How to install imitation timber. Do-it-yourself installation of timber imitation: instructions, technology and recommendations. Preparation of cladding material

House cladding with imitation timber can be used for wall cladding from the most different materials, both external and internal, including for winter caracas houses.

The structure, faced with an imitation of timber from the outside, looks like a solid wooden house, built from a real solid bar with a flat surface and rounded edges.

What is imitation timber

Imitation of timber (false timber) is a facing material in the form wood panels similar to lining, but wider and thicker. To fasten adjacent boards during the installation process, a groove-tenon system is used. The thickness of the panels is most often from 1.6 to 3.6 cm with a width of 10-20 cm and a length of 200 to 600 cm in half a meter increments. But other dimensions can also be found.

This material can be used to sheathe walls from:

  • Wood
  • Bricks
  • Beams
  • Foam blocks
  • Gas blocks
  • Cinder blocks
  • Monolithic concrete

Mounting

Having the skills of repair and construction works, you can mount the imitation yourself, provided that all the technologies for cladding the house with an imitation of a bar are observed. It is recommended that the facing material be cured for about a week in the atmospheric environment where it will be installed. This is necessary so that the moisture content of the panels is equal to that of the local environment.

Installation steps for external wall cladding:

  1. Fastening the vapor barrier
  2. Installation of the lathing
  3. Insulation laying
  4. Fastening of wind and moisture protection
  5. Installing a counter grill
  6. Cladding installation
  7. Veneer processing

Vapor barrier

For vapor barrier, you can use glassine, waterproofing or other similar material. The sheets are stacked with an overlap of 10-15 cm. The rolls are attached to the top of the wall. To do this, you can use aluminum tape or another acceptable method.

It is not scary if the material does not fit snugly against the walls - later it will be pressed against the lathing structure. To ensure the integrity of the insulation, breaks and joints are glued with tape.

Lathing

The lathing is made from a dry bar. It is preliminarily recommended to treat the bars with bioprotective and fire retardants. The thickness of the bar is selected for the thickness of the insulation material, but not less than 3 cm. Any material can be taken for insulation. Check in advance with styrofoam, etc.

The lathing beams are fixed at a distance of no more than one meter from one another, so that the trims of the false beam lie flat. The size of the gap between the beams is selected depending on the width of the insulating sheets. The elements of the lathing are installed strictly vertically in level.

The bars are attached:

  • Or with frame dowels - to concrete, foam concrete, brick
  • Either with screws, nails - to the tree

Insulation

Insulation is installed between the elements of the sheathing. It can be fixed in the following ways:

  • Special dowels-nails for thermal insulation
  • Knitting wire
  • Nylon twine

Waterproof membrane

The wind-moisture-proof membrane protects the insulation from street moisture. Isospan or other material with similar properties can be used. Sheets are glued with an overlap with double-sided tape and attached to the crate with staples using furniture stapler... The joints are glued aluminum tape.

And if you are just dreaming about your big and cozy house, then we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the houses of the chalet from the bar. Find out all the benefits of such structures.

Imitation of a bar - interior decoration

For interior decoration, the insulation can be omitted.

Bars for lathing can be used with a small thickness. They are installed at a distance of 60-70 cm. You can also use a galvanized profile, which is used for mounting drywall.

Imitation of a bar can also be mounted on the ceiling. For this you need to use thin strips. At the same time, it is recommended to paint them before installation in place - this will reduce the labor intensity of the work.

In principle, indoors, if the base is flat, you can do without the lathing and save the internal space. But with the help of the crate you can:

  • Hide communication wires
  • Achieve some warming of the room due to the air layer between the wall and the cladding

Do not paint a false beam in a heated room immediately after installation. You need to wait 3-4 weeks. After the panels dry, small cracks may form in them, which will damage the varnish or paint.

If the imitation of a bar is mounted in compliance with all the requirements of technology, it will provide an excellent appearance of the lined surface and will last for many years.

Video on how to clad a house with imitation of timber

The popularity of timber imitation as a finishing material is increasing every year - the desire of developers to give the house a presentable appearance for relatively little money is reflected. At the same time, the cost of cladding is only half the cost. And if you do not think to independently carry out the installation of the imitation, you should be ready to pay for the work of third-party specialists, which will negatively affect the condition of your wallet. This article will be useful for those who are ready to fix the imitation of timber with their own hands, as well as for people who plan to order the services of finishers and just want to be aware of what work will be carried out in this case and how much they cost approximately.

About the installation of imitation of a bar outside and inside

When decorating walls with imitation of timber, it should be borne in mind that this finishing material is of natural origin, therefore it:

  • susceptible to mold and rodent attacks. Treatment with antiseptics is required;
  • constantly changes humidity depending on the equilibrium value (hence the change in size is possible). Painting required;
  • combustible material. Need a flame retardant treatment

Below we will consider the main stages of installation of the simulation when exterior decoration... In the next article, we will talk in more detail about how to decorate with imitation of a bar inside the house.

The main stages of work

  • Achieving the equilibrium moisture content of the finishing material. Initially, imitation of a bar is characterized by a low moisture content: from 8 to 14%. In conditions of high air humidity, it will gain moisture (swell slightly, increasing in size). If you immediately start fixing the dry imitation, later problems in the form of cracks, turned out boards, etc. are possible. Therefore, it is advisable to leave the material unpacked for a week in the conditions in which it will be used: under a canopy on the street (for exterior decoration) or inside the house (for the inside).
  • During the time while the finishing material is gaining the required moisture, the crate should be mounted. The lathing is a planed bars, vertically attached to the wall surface with nails, screws or dowels at a certain distance, which depends on the thickness of the imitation. So, when finishing the facade with imitation of a bar (thickness from 45 to 21 mm), this distance varies from 400 to 600 mm. When working indoors, you can limit yourself to a large distance - 800 mm. The thickness of the lathing bars depends on the thickness of the insulation (for outdoor use), which is placed between them.
  • We insulate the wall with the chosen one thermal insulation material. Furniture stapler fasten to the crate windproof membrane(vapor-permeable material).
  • On the the final stage strictly horizontally we mount an imitation of a bar on the crate.

We repeat: we have described only the sequence of work, they will be described in more detail in separate articles.

Fastening imitation timber - how and how?

There are several ways to attach an imitation of a bar, which differ in both labor intensity and cost, and the aesthetics of the result. The most simple solutions imply fastening with nails from the front of the board. More complex and interesting options provide for installation in a groove, spike or in the front part, made "in a secret", when fasteners are invisible. In some cases, you can use the so-called clamps to attach the imitation of a bar.

Fastening imitation timber with nails

The cheapest and easiest way is to nail the imitation from the front with ordinary construction nails: one fastener to each batten of the lathing. Should the nails be galvanized, and their length should not be less than the thickness of the finish +? the thickness of the lathing bar. The solution is unaesthetic (the hats are striking) and will not fully achieve the effect of imitation of a bar.

Finishing nails (also galvanized) can be used. They are distinguished from construction nails by miniature caps, which are completely recessed in the wood during installation. Such fasteners are hammered into the spike or groove of the board at an angle of 45 degrees. Screw nails are also suitable for these purposes, which guarantee the protection of fasteners from extrusion during the modification process. linear dimensions materials.

Fasteners for imitation of timber - self-tapping screws and screws

For high-quality installation imitation, it is recommended to use galvanized universal screws and self-tapping screws, which provide secret mount... Fastening is carried out in a tenon at an angle of 45 degrees or in the front part with preliminary drilling of holes for plugs. After fastening with screws or self-tapping screws, the latter are covered with glue, sealed with wooden corks and sanded.

An alternative solution is to use the so-called Spax screws or fasteners for solid floors. You can read about their advantages on the sellers' websites. We only note that they are more expensive than ordinary self-tapping screws, but it is worth it if an imitation of an extra timber is used for finishing.

Kleimers for installation of imitation of a bar

For internal works you can use the so-called clamps for fixing imitation timber. They are stamped steel products that are mounted on the lathing. Finishing board at the same time it is simply "hung" on the clamps. Manufacturers position such fasteners as simple and reliable, but in fact, it turns out that their use is expensive and not always ineffective - this is evidenced by reviews on imitation of timber and recommendations of people who independently dealt with the issue of its installation.

The cost of installation of imitation timber

If you decide to entrust the installation of an imitation of a timber to third-party workers, then it should be borne in mind that in this case the price for the work is usually the same as the price of the materials used. With approximate data on prices for separate stages installation works you can see the table below.

Simulated timber is a thin board made from solid wood species. This product is characterized by low cost, long-term use and environmental friendliness.

The structures are supplied with special grooves and grooves, which greatly facilitate the process of their installation. That is why every owner of private housing who opted for this type facade decoration, knows how to fix imitation timber.

An imitation of a bar is considered to be a panel that is processed in such a way that in appearance it does not differ from a natural one. facing material... The trapezoidal nature of the base allows them to imitate the timber.

This option for finishing the building is made from coniferous and deciduous wood. The properties of the raised beam are close to the lining, however, it is much more massive, and its front side is processed in a more thorough way.

Boards imitating timber have the following positive aspects:

  1. Resistant to decay, climatic changes and insect influences.
  2. High coefficient of thermal insulation.
  3. Light weight, reducing the load on the facade surface.
  4. No cracking throughout the entire service life.
  5. The presence of grooves that facilitate the removal of condensate through the rear side of the panel.

Preparatory work preceding the installation of a false beam

Initially, the material contains about 14 percent moisture. In bad weather conditions, ensuring high humidity air, it may increase slightly, absorbing additional amount of water.

Fastening an imitation of a bar immediately after purchase may entail its further cracking and deformation, therefore, for a simulated product, it is useful to have an initial weekly stay in the conditions in which it will be used in the future. In other words, the boards must be unpacked and left under the open sky for 7 days.

It is advisable to spend this period of time on the manufacture of the lathing. These are strong beams that are attached to the walls of the building in an upright position with nails or screws. The distance between the elements is in the range from 40 to 60 centimeters.

Between the lathing bars, materials are laid, intended for house insulation. Then the process of installing the membrane is carried out, which performs the function of protecting from the wind.

Types of fastening pseudo-timber to the facade surface

First of all, the boards are treated with a special antiseptic, which will significantly extend their operational period. After that, the installation process begins, based on a bottom-up movement, 15 cm from the bottom of the façade.

Do-it-yourself installation of imitation of a bar can be carried out in one of three ways:

  1. Fastening panels with nails. This technology is the simplest and cheapest. It involves the use of galvanized nails, which are driven into the boards through the spikes. However, this often contributes to a violation of attractiveness. appearance cladding and deformation of the product as a result of hammer blows.
  2. The use of screws and self-tapping screws. For successful installation of a material that imitates natural timber, self-tapping screws and screws are attached to the tenon at an angle that is equal to 45 degrees. Another variation is drilling holes in the face of the panel. All openings are subsequently filled with adhesive and isolated from prying eyes by using wooden plugs.
  3. Operation of kleimers. This method is based on assembly using stamped products made of steel. Installable brackets connect the panels to the guide rails by means of conventional hanging. Despite the simplicity, this type of fastening is not popular, since it does not guarantee 100% reliability.

Stages of installation of structures

Do-it-yourself imitation of a bar is mounted quite easily. It can be carried out without the help of professional builders. To do this, you just need to follow this algorithm:

  1. With the help of the water level, the line corresponding to the location of the first board is beaten off.
  2. The first plank is connected from above and below.
  3. All subsequent structures are fastened using the “tongue-and-groove” technology and are fixed only at the top.
  4. A board placed at the top of the facade in order to obtain the right size, sawn with a jigsaw.
  5. The panel installed in the corner of the building is cut at a 45-degree angle.
  6. The alignment of the joints is carried out on a vertical rail.

Strict adherence to the listed actions will allow even an amateur to understand how to properly fix an imitation of a bar.

Plastic panels that were used in the decoration of office premises and houses are a thing of the past, giving way to environmentally friendly finishing materials from natural wood... Today, when decorating houses, imitation of a bar is often used, since this material allows you to create an exquisite interior, giving the facades an attractive appearance.

Material features

front side

backside

Imitation of a bar outwardly resembles a lining, however, the panels are installed horizontally, and the elements are made of conifers wood. Among the advantages of this material are:

  • minimal thermal conductivity - such a sheathing acts as an additional insulation;
  • versatility - imitation of timber is suitable for finishing brick, stone houses, buildings made of monolithic concrete and foam blocks;
  • excellent sound insulation performance;
  • ease of installation - when installing panels, no specific construction tools or special expensive equipment.

The material has decorative properties, allowing you to give the building the effect of an antique wooden buildings or a modern sophisticated look. Material suitable for interior decoration rooms, perfectly matching different styles: loft, country, Scandinavian.

Preparing for installation

Before starting work, it is necessary to allow the material to acclimatize, for which it is kept for 5-6 days indoors. You also need to check the availability of fittings and components, prepare tools: an impact drill, building level, dowels, wooden beams.

For the manufacture of lathing you will need wooden blocks, the section of which will correspond to the thickness of the insulation layer. Each panel must be treated with a special antiseptic.

Installation of the lathing begins from the corner of the house. The step of the lathing is selected taking into account the width of the timber and the size of the insulation. To fix the crate on brick wall, you need to attach a bar to the wall, drill a through hole, drive in a dowel and screw on the crate. To Work with wooden walls much easier. The lathing on such walls is usually fixed with self-tapping screws, which are selected depending on the thickness of the timber.

The lathing should be mounted strictly vertically with a given step, which must be calculated in such a way that all the extreme elements of the timber are located at the corners of the wall. Insulation is laid between the elements of the crate. It can be fastened different ways: with dowel nails, nylon twine or knitting wire.

Methods for fixing imitation of timber

The entire list of fasteners for simulating a bursa can be found here. And in this section we will tell you about the features of fastening each of them. The imitation of a bar is attached to the crate with the help of:

  • fasteners Nails DUET fasade, DUET 70, WAVE
  • clamps;
  • self-tapping screws.

Mounting on self-tapping screws

1. On one or several boards on the back side, we apply the markings corresponding to the center of the log

2. Place the corner piece on the first board and fix it with self-tapping screws. Next, place standard element and also fix it with self-tapping screws

3. We place the board on the rags, fix the corner and the usual element with self-tapping screws

4. On all subsequent boards, apply a couple of ordinary elements, placing them to the left and to the right of the applied markings

5. Along the lags, we start the board under the spike of the previous one, tapping if necessary. We fix the board with two self-tapping screws

6. Installation of all subsequent boards is similar. The last board fixed in the same way as the first corner element

Treatment

Before installing the imitation of a bar, the panels must be processed. For this, the boards are sanded, after which they are applied antiseptic and then a primer. When applying paints and varnishes on water based the surface of the panel will dry quickly and acquire the desired shade. It is recommended to cover it in two layers, the second time it is necessary to apply the paint after the first layer is well dry.
