Finishing board for walls - types of material and installation features. How is wall cladding done? Decorative board for wall decoration

When arranging private houses and their decoration, many owners prefer only environmentally friendly material. The most popular type of wall cladding in a residential building is the facade decoration with a board or other products based on natural wood.

This choice is due not only to environmental friendliness, but physical properties, since the tree always has a beautiful appearance, is resistant to mechanical stress, retains heat and makes it possible to partially replace individual planks in case of damage.

The main characteristics that always play in favor of the tree are:

  • high strength;
  • high thermal insulation;
  • soundproofing;
  • ease of use;
  • combination with other types of materials.

Of course, the price of this natural product is an order of magnitude higher than artificial analogs, but if you wall the walls with your own hands without the involvement of specialists, and using inexpensive types of wood products, then its cost is fully justified.

The lining can have a convenient fastening, which significantly reduces the installation time.

Variety of materials

Today, a huge number of different products made of wood or based on wood are presented on the construction markets, but the most popular are materials such as:

  • lining;
  • board with imitation of a bar;
  • block house;
  • siding panels;
  • unedged board.

Lining

Lining is a board for wall decoration, which is often made of solid wood, characterized by a high degree of strength, speed and ease of installation of the product on a prepared surface.

Note!
This material is easily replaceable in case of damage, and allows designers to use various tinting agents, apply different varnishes and paints.
The main advantage of this material is its low specific weight, which makes it possible to use these finishing boards in any building conditions.

The lining is mounted on a pre-prepared crate, the resulting space can be filled with insulation or laid communication systems. The material has different physical properties, is made from different types of wood and can be used for both exterior and interior decoration.

Board imitating timber

Imitation Timber is an outdoor board that, when assembled, creates an imitation of a solid timber and gives the structure more solidity. The material also has a high degree of strength, is resistant to mechanical damage and, when treated with special protective equipment, acquires resistance to destructive environmental factors.

The material for is similar to lining and installation takes place according to the same principle. Each board has “tenon” and “groove” locks on the longitudinal edges, which greatly facilitates the installation process. This finishing board under the timber is installed on a wooden lathing on top of the insulation.

Block house

Block-House is another representative of the decorative board, which is designed to imitate a frame made of perfectly smooth rounded logs. The product is available in various thicknesses and widths of the rounded contour, which allows the product to be used both from the outside of the house and for interior decoration.

This exterior board is usually made from pine woods such as spruce or angora pine to give the wall a more realistic and natural finish. Also, the Block House can be made from larch, aspen, cedar or birch while preserving the natural color of wood and patterns.

For your information!
The material is conventionally divided into two types ("A" and "B") according to the type of external texture.
The material of group "A" has a perfectly smooth surface, suitable for indoor use.
The material of group "B" has a rougher processing, the external relief is close to a real timber and is used for outdoor decorations.

Planken

This is a small decorative board intended for decoration of small architectural forms and individual areas inside the premises. It can also be used for external facades, revealing individual parts of the building to distinguish them favorably from the overall picture.

Planken is made in the form of a regular board with beveled edges along the edges of the product. The material itself can have various colors and textures, chamfers can also have sharp or rounded shapes.

Of the features of the material, it can be noted resistance to moisture, since it is made mainly of larch and is saturated with a large amount of natural resins. When installing the plank, a small gap is left between the boards, since under the influence of temperature and moisture, the plank tends to expand.

Wood based siding

Which can be made from various natural and synthetic materials. In this case, we are talking about panels made from wood chips under high pressure.

Products can have different sizes, colors and textures, imitating all kinds of wood. The material has high strength, is intended for outdoor use with the possibility of laying insulation, resistant to moisture and sunlight.

When purchasing siding, its standard package usually includes the necessary fasteners, instructions for installing the panel and additional elements to hide the seams and cuts. Siding panels, like any other outdoor finishing board, are installed on a pre-prepared crate.

Unedged board

An unedged board is a board with raw edges. Decorating the walls with an unedged board gives the building a specific style and with a good design layout, the effect is very beautiful with a pronounced personality.

Usually this material is used for the manufacture of lathing for the installation of another decorative tree, but recently it has begun to be used for facing facades in country houses.

In most cases, trimming of facades with an unedged board is carried out on non-residential outbuildings, garages or gazebos. With careful adjustment of the boards to each other, one gets the impression that the entire structure is made of wood and this effect is often used by landscape designers.

In some cases, trimming with an unedged board is carried out even without cleaning it from tree bark; this is done solely for the purpose of giving the structure a unique style and a certain aged look. Before using this product for outdoor applications, be sure to pre-treat it with certain moisture and UV protection agents.

Benefits of wood trim

Finishing the facades of a building with natural wood or materials based on it has a number of significant advantages, such as:

  • use in different climatic zones;
  • the ability to create structural elements of any complexity;
  • ecological purity and naturalness of the material;
  • ease of installation, without any special skills;
  • long service life with the possibility of repair and partial replacement;
  • the possibility of installing additional insulating layers on the walls of the building;
  • the possibility of a large reconstruction of the facade without damaging the base of the building;
  • relatively low cost;
  • many options for color and texture solutions.

Disadvantages of wood trim

Like any other type of material, boarding walls with a board also has its drawbacks:

  • with a large amount of moisture, a sharp deterioration in the physical qualities of the material is observed;
  • without special treatment, the wood supports combustion;
  • the presence of knots, resin pockets, cracks and other natural wood components;
  • the need for periodic maintenance and renewal of protective or paint layers;
  • the development of the fungus without pretreatment with antiseptics.

Conclusion

High-quality processing of wood before its direct use will give the tree new physical properties and avoid the manifestation of some of its disadvantages listed above. In general, the use of this natural material always plays into the hands in decorative terms, successfully combining with other types of materials, creating a feeling of comfort, coziness and giving the house a chic presentable look.

Wood paneling for interior decoration is considered a very stylish option. This is due to the aesthetics and environmental friendliness of the material. There are a large number of available options for decorating walls with your own hands made of wood, which the proposed article will tell about.

Wood is a fairly common building material, which, in addition to durability, has an attractive appearance.

More budgetary panels are made from:

  • Boards.
  • Bars.
  • Classic lining (see Clapboard cladding: correct work).

In their manufacture, a wide variety of wood is taken.

It can be:

  • Pine bars.
  • Oak logs.
  • Walnut trunks.
  • Birch trees.
  • Apple trees.
  • Some exotic breeds.

Before sheathing the walls with wood, from a wide variety and sufficient abundance of materials, you can choose those that will satisfy the owner in terms of such indicators as:

  • Practicality.
  • Ecological cleanliness.
  • Ease of maintenance.
  • Ease of installation.
  • Small price.
  • Compliance, when decorating a room, specifically to the chosen style.

Wood-clad walls allow:

  • Decorate the interior beautifully and stylishly (see Wall decoration design, interior ideas).
  • Provide a moisture exchange process.
  • Create a rather pleasant microclimate in the room.

Each type of wood finish has its own advantages and some disadvantages.

Tip: Before sheathing the walls with wood, you need to choose the right material, taking into account many factors, starting with the texture and ending with the shape and size of the panels.

Wall cladding with boards

The construction market offers a wide variety of boards of various types.

They may be:

  • Deck.
  • Facade.
  • Parquet.

The latter type is preferred by homeowners for several reasons:

  • Ease of manufacture... Various types of trees are used for its production:
  1. from beech, maple, ash, larch;
  2. to fruit trees - pears, cherries and cherries.
  • A wide variety of shades makes it possible to choose the desired option for any interior... Wood can be purchased in a light shade, or material can be found in a fairly dark color.
  • All mentioned types of wood are of high quality species. with excellent performance characteristics.
  • As a finishing material, parquet boards for walls look great in the interior.
  • Affordable cost material allows you to arrange a large room without too much financial cost.
  • Using special stains and wax impregnations, you can additionally "decorate" the wood. This will extend the service life of the coating and change the interior for the better.

Correct cladding of surfaces with boards made of solid wood will allow you to get a very effective interior, which will be the envy of all your friends. Special impregnations made from oils and wax will give the boards a velvet-like appearance, as in the photo.

In addition, on the surface of the boards, such compositions create a film that will repel water, which will prevent mold and mildew from appearing on the material.

Using the block house

Such a coating is a type of finishing board that can:

  • Simulate a bar or log.
  • Create the effect of a wooden blockhouse.

It is made by sawing a log using the scheme: "square in a circle", while from the log you can get:

  • Flat boards.
  • Bar.

And from its outer part - blanks for obtaining a blockhouse (see Finishing an internal block with a house: rules for performing work). This results in a waste-free production. Their cross-section imitates a rounded log, allowing you to create a real "rural" interior in the room.

The main advantages of a blockhouse:

  • Durability.
  • High strength.
  • Excellent thermal insulation.
  • Excellent sound insulation.
  • Easy installation.
  • No deformation after a long service life, over thirty years.
  • High rate of fire safety.
  • Impregnation with antiseptics and special fire retardants, does not allow damage to the material by fungi and insects.
  • The lowest cost is for a blockhouse - made of spruce or pine, which also emit resin, which helps to increase strength and create waterproofing.
  • When using cedar, it is ensured in the room that the optimal level of moisture is maintained and a healthy microclimate is created.
  • Larch products increase strength and moisture resistance.

Blockhouses can be:

  • Wide, up to 230 millimeters.
  • Narrow, up to 90 millimeters.

Tip: Interior decoration should be made of narrow elements, which allows you to reduce the loss of space after finishing the room.

To make the walls decorated with wood look even more impressive, artificial aging can be performed. In this case, the most commonly used method of "brushing", or the processing of the material with a wire brush.

With this wood processing:

  • They are removed from the surface of the fiber, this creates an original relief.
  • The material is painted.
  • Without letting the paint dry, it is removed.

Lining features

The most economical way of finishing, when using decorative facing boards or lining.

For its manufacture, the following can be used:

  • Pine.
  • Linden.
  • Aspen.
  • Alder.
  • Larch.
  • Cedar.

With this finish, the walls acquire:

  • Sufficient durability.
  • High strength.
  • Resistance to mechanical stress.
  • Good soundproofing.

Besides:

  • The material is easy to assemble.
  • Has a low cost.
  • Clapboard can be used to update the interior: the walls are painted or tinted several times.

Disadvantages of panels:

  • Danger of infection by insects and fungi.
  • They do not tolerate moisture and temperature extremes.

Using euro lining

Such material is a classic lining with its advantages, the only difference is that the material is manufactured according to European quality standards.

The main difference between the panels is the presence of longitudinal grooves, which are intended for ventilation.

This allows:

  • Provide protection against condensation.
  • Reduce stresses in the wood itself.

The lining is made with deeper connecting grooves, which significantly reduces the likelihood of crevices.

The material has several categories:

  • "A" - high, there are no knots on the surface.
  • "B" - medium, the presence of knots on the surface is allowed.
  • "C" - low, used very rarely for finishing work.

Features of natural wood wallpaper

Wooden wallpaper is an alternative to real wood wall decoration. The basis of the material is roll paper, which is covered with a special wood veneer, for which valuable types of wood are used, with a thickness of 0.1 - 0.6 millimeters.

The features of wooden wallpaper are:

  • The ability to perform installation on radial surfaces, which cannot be done with the previous types of materials.
  • They must be carefully coated with varnish, oil or wax in order to increase their favorable appearance for a long time.
  • Discoloration from exposure to sunlight.
  • Swelling from water hitting the surface.
  • They are easily infested with pests and fungi.
  • Fairly high fire hazard.

The gluing of wooden wallpaper on the walls differs little from the technology of covering ordinary wallpaper - only the result. The end result is as if we are decorating the walls with wood.

Features of wall decoration with saw cut

Quite unusual, recently, a popular option for decorating a home is to decorate the walls with a saw cut. At the same time, a small thickness cross-section of the trunk is used as the main decorative element. It is very simple to decorate the walls with a frame in the room.

When performing the process:

  • The dimensions of the cross-cut area are determined.

Tip: Do not be zealous at the same time, using an unusual type of wall covering on a large scale will only ruin the interior. Optimally - when one wall is framed, it is better at the head of the bed.

Work instructions:

  • The wall surface is being prepared.
  • It is dyed in a calm color.
  • Using special high-quality glue, logs are laid.
  • They can be recorded:
  1. close to each other;
  2. the design of an interesting fragmentary drawing.

Choosing options for finishing wood ceilings and walls, everyone should be guided by their tastes and material capabilities.

How to decorate walls with panels

The most popular type of surface decoration with panels is a herringbone pattern.

To apply it you will need:

  • Protractor.
  • Convenient hacksaw.
  • Double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Sheathing.
  • Pencil.

Finishing steps include:

  • Calculation of the structure.
  • Area markings.
  • Trimming planks.
  • Fastening elements.

Work technology:

  • On a piece of paper, a diagram of the final appearance of the wall is drawn up. At the same time, attention is paid to the accuracy of the measurements.
  • A straight vertical line is drawn strictly in the center of the wall with a simple pencil, which will be the border for laying the panels.
  • Panels are being prepared. At the same time, they are cut at an angle of 90 ° so that one edge of them becomes oblique:
  1. one part of the boards is cut from the side of the right corner;
  2. the second is from the left side.
  • Take double-sided adhesive tape and attach to the panels. At the same time, there should be three longitudinal strips of tape on each plank.
  • The middle elements are attached. The planks are applied at oblique corners, guided by the drawn line. It is necessary to avoid the presence of gaps between them.
  • Panels are fixed to the wall. For this, the protective film is removed from the elements, and the strips are tightly pressed against the surface.
  • The entire wall is glued in the same way.

Wood is a material that makes it easy to embody any creative ideas. Is it possible to glue the walls with wood, which materials are better to use, the technology for their finishing will be shown in the video in this article.

Even one wooden wall in the room can revive it and set a pleasant mood for the entire interior. In most interiors, such a wall will be called an accent wall. In some styles that imitate a rustic atmosphere, it will not be superfluous to make all four walls wooden. There is only one catch: if you are making repairs in an apartment, then the wooden walls are not initially foreseen in it - they will have to be created with the help of finishing. In this article, we'll look at ways to do this, varying in cost and complexity.

Pallet boards

What you need: pallets, sandpaper, stain, nails, antiseptic, tools.

Price: very low - only the price of consumables, pallets can be found for free.

Whom to entrust: easy to do yourself.

Cross cuts

The wall, decorated with round cuts of wood of different sizes, looks very original. They can be glued directly onto a wall or onto a panel, such as plywood, and mounted on the wall already.

The whole apartment cannot be decorated like that, since the process is laborious, and washing such a wall is a dubious pleasure. The technique is rather decorative and will go for an accent wall or even for a small section of it.

What you need: branches collected in the forest, saw, wood impregnation, glue.

Price: very low - the cost of impregnation and glue.

Whom to entrust: easy to do yourself, you can even glue with children.

Option: if you like a wall made of small "squares" or textured blocks of different sizes, use beams and boards instead of branches.

Laminate

The same laminate that is placed on the floor can be laid on the walls. This is not a natural wood, but the difference is not very noticeable, and the price is significantly lower. The laminate is assembled into a joint and can only be held on the wall with glue or liquid nails, but for reliability, you can attach it to a metal frame - this installation option will be more difficult and slightly more expensive.

Manufacturers have taken care of a large selection of finishing materials for interior and exterior decoration of the house. Finishing wood products have a large selection of color palette, texture, shape, allowing you to fulfill any design solution.

Before making a choice, remember that the walls of the house take up a large area, in contrast to the flooring. Therefore, it is very important to carry out high-quality and beautiful finishes, which will emphasize the style of the room and give it a special personality.

Natural wood has been used for room cladding since ancient times. This is due to the fact that the material not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but also does not harm health, since the wood does not contain components hazardous to the human body. Wood wall decoration can be used in any room, from the kitchen to the balcony, using different design options.

In addition to natural wood, wood imitation is effectively used. For these purposes, there are different materials, for example, siding and wallpaper - they are painted in the color of wood.

Variety of finishes

Various types of products can be used as interior decoration with wood, for example, deck, facade and parquet ... Of all the species that exist they prefer to perform cladding with such options:

There is a sufficient choice of other wood on the market: block house, gusvarblok, lining.

Wood is considered a material of universal significance and can be used in various directions. Many people note that when decorating the walls with natural wood, the house becomes comfortable and beautiful. Manufacturers are constantly improving the quality and performing additional impregnation and processing of the material, after which such products become more resistant to decay, abrasion, therefore, their service life increases significantly.

The width of ordinary decorative strips is about 3 cm.Expensive options are those products whose width does not exceed 2 cm, and the length is 12 cm.Basically, not too hard species are taken for wall decoration with wood, for example, poplar, alder, linden and aspen. Ash, oak and maple are preferred from expensive species. In general, wooden materials have the following advantages:

  • increased sound insulation;
  • ease of installation;
  • high service life;
  • many design solutions;
  • high environmental friendliness of the material.

Working with wood is convenient. You don't have to spend a lot of time on the inner lining of the room. There is one more plus - there are no requirements for preliminary work on leveling the surface of the walls, in other words, all small irregularities and roughness can be left. Natural wood is a guarantee that the house will become environmentally friendly. Even if impregnated products are used, they will not have any negative impact on health.

Following dignity of wood is the absorption of vapors. If there is high humidity in the house, then some of the water vapor will be eliminated, and after a while it will return. Thus, the room will maintain a normal microclimate. When choosing the right decoration and colors, there will be no difficulties, because there is a really wide range of different products on the market.

Criterias of choice

Before starting to mount the boards, it is advisable to look at the finished work with photographs and select the project of interest. If you don't like something, then you can create your own sketch of the future finish. When choosing a material, it is necessary adhere to the following nuances:

  • decide on the color of the material;
  • choose a type of wood suitable for the overall interior;
  • give preference to finishing products that are of high quality;
  • you should take into account the installation technology, since it is different for each type of planks.

To buy the required amount of material, it is recommended to carry out a calculation. If this is not possible for any reason, then you need to contact a specialist, otherwise, if the calculation is incorrect, there will be a surplus, which means that money will be wasted.

It happens that the owners of houses and apartments, when choosing such a decoration, do not attach importance to the shades of the products. With the right approach, the room can be visually expanded. It is preferable to choose several types of cladding with different toning.

Installation process

For all types of decorative boarding of walls, one process is followed, which is done in three steps. What does the step-by-step decoration of a room with wood look like:

  • preparatory work is being done with the material;
  • a frame is made on the walls;
  • sheathing with a decorative product is carried out.

After purchase, it is recommended to dry the material, but not artificially, but in natural conditions. The room where the finishing material is stored must be well ventilated. In order for the wood to dry properly, decorative boards should be laid in layers, but be sure to install lining between them. Then a void will form between the strips, and air circulation will accelerate. Conifers take a long time to dry, while larch takes a long time.

For the construction of the lathing in an apartment or house, you can use a metal profile or wooden square strips. The profile is superior to wood in that it has a long service life and ease of installation. The frame is always made across the sheathed material: if decorative boards are mounted in a vertical position, the lathing is done in a horizontal position. This design is attached regardless of the condition of the wall, so there is no need to level the surface. If wood is used for the frame, then the walls must be treated with special antifungal agents.

In those rooms where there is a high concentration of moisture, experts solve the problem by arranging mini-ventilation. It is enough to make a few small and inconspicuous holes in the casing, and the whole structure will be ventilated. It is important to choose a heater in advance. If mineral wool is used, then a distance of 50 cm is maintained between the bars. Insulation is performed by laying the wool in the cells. Assembly technology may vary. It all depends on the chosen finishing material:

  • by the joint method between two parts;
  • by installing the boards into special grooves.

In the first version, the fixing of the cladding boards is carried out using self-tapping screws. But symmetry should be observed. It is necessary to screw in the screws only along a cord or a marked line: this way they will add aesthetics to the appearance of the finish. Experts advise masking the caps of the self-tapping screws, therefore, they are screwed in so that shallow depressions are formed by a couple of millimeters. The pits are covered with putty, and paint is applied on top, identical to the colors of the boards.

In the second version, the assembly technology resembles the installation of parquet. Screws or nails are attached from the side of the planks to the extent that they go slightly deeper. In this case, you do not have to deal with the work of masking the hats, and the design will turn out to be one-piece.

Self-assembly features

Fiberboard panels covered with a special film are in great demand. This is due to the fact that with a flat surface of the wall, you will not have to build a crate. This lightweight material is mounted directly to the wall using adhesive tape. This method will greatly facilitate the work, especially if it is done by hand.

Figured assembly of wooden elements is considered the most difficult option. For example, if the owner is planning to make wall cladding, whose drawing will go like a herringbone, then to achieve the goal, the following tool and material will be required:

  • protractor;
  • sheathing boards;
  • a hacksaw with a fine tooth (for wood);
  • duct tape;
  • pencil.

When working on your own, you will have to face some nuances that are of particular importance. So, an accurate calculation is needed. When marking the walls, you should be extremely careful. Cutting boards, fixing wooden planks - a beginner in this kind of work will have to show great patience, especially if it is supposed to make a sheathing with a pattern. But you can cope on your own if you follow the following installation rules:

Finishing boards are versatile in use, so they can be used for different premises. To improve the interior, it is advisable to combine different shading of the strips. If you have even minimal skills in working with tools, the installation process will be greatly simplified and accelerated.
