Transfer the image to the tree using PVA. An easy way to transfer an image to a tree. Preparation, components and tools

Wood elements in the interior make it more elegant and attractive. This decor can be made by hand. The most simple option will become a wooden plank with a pattern, which is applied to the surface in accordance with a certain technique. To make a product correctly and beautifully, you need to know exactly how to transfer a drawing to a tree in several ways.

How can you decorate a tree through a drawing

There are several techniques in which a drawing can be projected onto a wooden surface. In each situation, it is worth knowing exactly how to transfer a drawing to a tree:

  • Burning out with a special device. The drawing is clear and embossed. Outlines are noticeably limited, you can create a drop shadow effect or drop shadow.
  • Decoupage is the most popular and simple technique creating a drawing. As a result, the image can turn out in color or black and white, the drawing can be of any complexity.
  • For wood carving, a sketch is needed, which is projected onto the surface in several ways: using carbon paper, redrawing, relief copying using sharp tools.

You can partially combine several techniques in one job. This is possible provided that the person has an artistic talent that will help to abstractly present the result of the work.

Wood surface preparation

Before transferring the drawing to the tree at home, it is worth preparing the surface correctly. From quality wooden base both the process of work and the result depend. The service life is also directly determined by the quality of the preparation of the tree.

Training wooden surface:

  1. Select correct tree... It is best to work with pressed sheets of plywood, chipboard and other analogs, but also natural material quite suitable.
  2. Decide on the parameters and shape of the wooden base. Get rid of excess parts immediately, sand the edges.
  3. The surface itself should be smooth and level. For this it is worth using grinder, a hard-to-reach places process with sandpaper or a file.
  4. Only then a sketch of the image itself is prepared for transfer.

Thus, preparation consists of three simple steps that even a child can do.

on wood

In order for the burning procedure to be carried out quickly and efficiently, it is necessary that the drawing on the surface of the tree be as accurate and high-quality as possible. Several methods are used to transfer an image to a surface. The most popular option is carbon copy transfer.

How to transfer a drawing to a wood for burning using a carbon copy:

  1. You need to take a sheet of carbon paper. It is advisable to use paper that has been used more than once.
  2. Place the carbon paper with the colored side against the wooden surface. Lay out a sheet with a drawing on top and secure the structure with tape or electrical tape.
  3. With a graphite pencil, trace the lines of the image. You need to work carefully, limiting the interaction of hands with paper as much as possible.
  4. After finishing the stroke of the lines, remove the layers of paper. The drawing for burning is ready.

This method is very reliable, but requires special care in execution. In the process of translation, traces of carbon paper may remain, which are almost impossible to clean from the surface of the tree.

Drawing without carbon copy

In order to find out how to transfer a drawing to a tree without a carbon copy, you can use several methods. Each differs in a set of tools and materials, but simple in the sense of implementation.

Image transfer methods:

  1. Graphite print. Take a simple pencil with a soft point and trace the contours of the drawing on the paper. Rotate the image to the wooden base and press quickly without shifting. In order for the graphite to print with high quality, you can run it over the paper with a hard roller or a plastic strip.
  2. Thermal transfer. First you need to pick up the image taken on the right device. With the help of thermal action, a photocopy or printout made on a powder printer is printed. Attach the back to the wooden base and heat the paper with an iron.
  3. Reprint with white spirit. The picture must be printed on a laser printer or copier. Attach the sheet with a pattern to the tree and wipe with white spirit. It is worth applying a little product on a cotton pad so that the paper does not sour.

There are other options, but the principle of implementation is much more complicated and requires more time and money.

Preparing wood for carving

To form an image on a board or plywood, you need to know just a few basic rules. If the work is done incorrectly, then the threading process can be significantly complicated.

How to transfer a drawing to a wood for carving in order to comply with all the rules:

  1. Apply a mesh on the surface of the transparent paper. The size of the cage will depend on the required size of the picture.
  2. If you need to create an ornament, then put part of the image on tracing paper and fold the sheet in half. Draw a pencil around the image on the other half of the tracing paper.
  3. The symmetry of the picture can be given by using a carbon copy.

The method of transferring an ornament or image can be used from the above options. The main thing is to lay the sheet with the applied ornament so that the direction of the pattern coincides with the arrangement of the fibers.

Decoupage technique - a simple way to transfer an image

Often, more than just manufacturing is required interesting decorations for an interior with a picture on a tree, but also a more practical application of technology. Knowing how to transfer a drawing to a tree, you can restore old furniture, do wooden element design.

To implement such ideas, the decoupage technique is used. The principle of such work is simple and does not require special skills, availability unusual materials or tools.

How to transfer a drawing to a tree using PVA glue using the simplest algorithm:

  1. The prepared surface must be coated with PVA glue. The layer should not be too thick. The strokes must be made even and uniform.
  2. Place the drawing on the surface of the wood and gently straighten it paper web... You need to expel air and position the edges of the cellulose base.
  3. On top, once again smear the image with a thin layer of PVA. Wait until everything is dry and duplicate the layer again.

Further processing is selected in accordance with the preferences of the "creator".

Additional finishing

After the drawing has been transferred to the tree and the secondary surface treatment has been performed, it is worth considering options for further surface treatment.

There are several options:

  1. Cover with varnish.
  2. Paint.
  3. Prime.
  4. Leave the product untreated.
  5. Laminate.

Additional decoration includes the manufacture of a stand, frame, pendants for finished product... Here you can show your imagination and skills.

Drawing technology

The method is based on thermal transfer of toner and is quite often used for manufacturing printed circuit boards at home.
We will use this method to apply the pattern to the plywood. So let's get started.
First, we need to prepare a drawing and paper.

Drawing

You can download it on our website among the crafts you like, or read how to prepare a drawing yourself in the next article.

Paper

We will need glossy paper, the main quality of which will be a low toner retention coefficient. For example, it might be paper from a glossy magazine, but I personally use a backing paper for the labels. If nothing of the above recommended is at hand, then you can take ordinary paper, this technology will also work.

Printing a drawing

When printing, do not forget that the image will be mirrored, so you need to prepare your layout in advance by "flipping it horizontally". This can be done programmatically or select the appropriate setting in the printer settings, provided that your printer supports this function.

Also, in the settings, you should enable high-quality printing - this will give large quantity toner on the sheet and, as a result, faster transfer of the image onto plywood.

Transfer picture

To transfer the picture, place the printed layout with toner down on the plywood, and slowly smooth out reverse side iron. It takes about one minute to transfer an A4 size drawing.

Iron

You can use a regular iron as a transfer fuser. If you decide to take an iron, which is also used in everyday life, then take care of its safety - use a paper and cloth pad to avoid the formation of carbon deposits on its surface.

As for me, I use an iron for covering aircraft models, it is quite convenient, since you can set the required temperature on it - 190 degrees. The surface of the iron has long been accustomed to various experiments, so I do not use a pad.

Alternatively, to transfer the drawing, you can use construction hair dryer and a roller.

Removing paper

After evenly smoothing the layout with an iron, before removing the paper layer, you should wait a while, allowing the transferred toner to cool down.

When the paper is removed, you should check the lines of the drawing, how successfully they were transferred and, if necessary, add the missing elements with a pencil.
At this stage, the stage of transferring the drawing to plywood is completed.

Conclusion

This technology has one drawback, in pursuit of saving time, the development of a number of important human qualities is missed, such as:
concentration of attention, patience, perseverance, concentration, accuracy, slowness, thoroughness.
For this reason, for beginners, school-age children, I would recommend first trying traditional ways drawing a drawing on plywood:
Carbon-copy translation or template production.

Nothing brings together and makes spending an evening more exciting than creativity, craft and handicrafts. Once it was a stimulus for progress, invention, knowledge of the world. Yes, just a means to survival. When a person got tired of running after prey with a stick and a stone hammer, he came up with a bow and made it with his own hands, now he can hunt from cover, from a distance. Today, in the 21st century, when everything has already been done and thought up for you, there is little space left for creativity and handicrafts. Handmade has become a hobby, entertainment and pleasant pastime.

Handmade or DIY.

How can you transfer the image to a piece of wood and get a lot of pleasure from the process? Your kids will definitely love it! There is a simple way that I will explain. We need:

Preparation, components and tools.

A piece of plank, plywood, or any wooden surface. This is the foundation. Sandpaper or as in my case an abrasive sponge (grit 100+) for finishing surface to which we will transfer. Brush, wallpaper roller, if you have, but you can also without it, sharp knife, the picture itself or a photograph printed on a conventional laser printer. If this is a portrait, or the correct perspective is important, we mirror it in any graphic editor... You can use Picmonkey or usual PaintWe print, choose best quality print. And the main ingredient of our venture Foto transfer potch you can choose any company, I chose this one, due to the availability in the nearest store (245 rubles) and acrylic varnish (140 rubles) to your taste, glossy or matte.Transfer⋅ it is a kind of composition that sticks a thin layer of paper to the surface, forming a protection and makes this layer transparent, which is then protected with varnish.

Crop the picture by the right size... Try to touch the drawing less with your hands so as not to leave greasy prints. I took a portrait of Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov, mirrored it in the editor and printed it on a conventional laser printer. The veneer was well sanded, cleaned of dust.

We apply a transfer, not a lot and not a little, so that the layer is even.

Smooth and press, try to avoid bubbles. Carefully, trying not to move, glue the image down and try not to move. If there is a roller, roll it. I put a piece of plastic in and flattened it out. We are waiting for it to dry, it is recommended 12-24 hours. If you can't wait, dry with a hairdryer. Then the magic begins!

Pour water and let the paper get thoroughly wet, there is no need to be afraid, the main thing is not to rush and wait for the picture to appear.

Calmly and better hands, they just feel the surface and tell you how to proceed. We remove upper layer paper until the image appears, it appears to be imprinted on the wood, but be careful not to damage the layer of the image.

That's ready-made version, it remains to dry and varnish. if after drying there is a layer of paper and the picture is whitish, then the procedure can be repeated. There will not be an ideal state, but after you cover it with varnish, clarity will appear and thereby save the work from the effects of the external environment.

I want to add a couple of nuances when using colorful magazines. Apparently, temperature rather than pressure plays a role here in the first place. therefore, using heavier pages will increase the warm-up time. but the temperature lasts more evenly and the heated area lasts longer. thinner sheets have several drawbacks. 1 this laser printer jams thin paper SOLUTION to pass a thin sheet together with a thin sheet of a sheet of ordinary 80 ki
2. Thin paper warms up faster and therefore, in addition to your stencil, magazine drawing can also stick to the blank. DECISION it is necessary to control the translation of the stencil without overheating the sheet, or simply neglect if the drawing even got to the workpiece. in principle, it does not interfere in my case, because I use it for cutting. and then with subsequent sanding with sandpaper. if the cleanliness of the stencil is still necessary, then empirically select the temperature of the iron. Because the toner adhesion temperature is lower than the ink peel temperature.

Here's an example of overheating.

Here is an example of a more closely matched temperature

here is the media sheet from the top second photo. you can see how almost 100% of the stencil drawing was peeled off, but the magazine drawing was not damaged

With a minimum amount of material and time spent, you can make a memorable gift or retro-style decoration for your interior with your own hands. The wood will give the photo a special inner glow, and you will also get beautiful matte colors in the transferred frame. This is a step-by-step illustrated master class on creating real works of art with your own hands.

You learn to:
- Choose color images for transferring to the tree;
- Work with a gel medium (gel medium transfer - transfer gel, gel for transferring images; freely sold on the RuNet);
- Transfer any image to the surface;
- Competently complete the work on transferring the image to the surface.

1. Choose suitable starting materials.

The wooden base can be of any shape, but its surface must be perfectly smooth so that the image lies flat and without breaks in every sense. It is also preferable to use a light wood, since it is this wood that gives that "inner glow". Especially a light base is important for portraits so that the skin tone does not change for the worse.

As for the photo, it should be a printout exactly on a laser printer and from the very beginning a size equal to the size of the wooden transfer base. Therefore, after printing, it is good to cut off excess white paper from the frame so that it will be more convenient to work with it later. The picture should be high-contrast as standard (you can process the image in a graphics editor on a PC, if this is not the case). But a great retro effect is given on wood and shots are almost out of focus and with very soft shades of colors. See below for examples of suitable shots - from bottom to top and from right to left: high-contrast shot, but out of focus; the picture is out of focus and with soft tints; contrast shot in perfect focus. Wood will enhance the color rendition in any case.

Any transfer medium can be used, but the best image is given by a gel with a matte effect (marked "matt" on the package) and the most dense / thick consistency (marked "heavy" on the package).

Also you come in handy:
- unnecessary plastic roller,
- (or) a wide wooden stick (purchased at a pharmacy),
- a pair of medium-sized flat brushes for applying the composition (glue brushes),
- a soft sponge or dish sponge (new),
- water in a small bowl or low glass,
- paper towels / napkins / handkerchiefs / toilet paper or thin kitchen towels,
- a small amount of oil (any liquid from the kitchen).

2. Just before starting work, wipe your wood base several times with a clean, dry towel to remove any crumbs and dust.

3. Apply the transfer gel to the surface of the wood in a good layer: definitely not thin (a lot of wood should not be visible through the gel), but not very thick (the gel layer should not look like impenetrable icing on the cake either). Just squeeze out of the tube or transfer the gel with a spoon from the container onto the tree, and then spread it in a more or less even layer with a brush (or wooden stick, or a plastic card - whichever is more convenient for you). Do not forget to make sure that the layer is not thinner at the edges of the wood base than in the middle.

4. While the gel is still wet, place the image print side down on the gel. The photo can be cropped to a size slightly smaller (or much smaller) than the wood base, then you end up with a thin or wide wood frame around the image. Using your fingers, gently (so as not to move the photo by a millimeter, hold it with one hand, gently smooth it in all directions with the other), smooth the superimposed photo, slightly pressing it to the surface and removing air between the photo and the gel on the wood. It is important in no case to press so hard that the gel starts to squeeze out on the sides!

5. Smooth it with your fingers, take a plastic card (it is more convenient than a stick, since the edge of the first one gives more even pressure) and, again holding the picture with one hand, continue smoothing the white surface of the photo with the other edge of the card.

6. After that, set aside your workpiece until the gel is COMPLETELY dry overnight. Resist the temptation to pick up the photo and see what happens: you will surely ruin the job. If you work in the summer, you can also put the workpiece in the sun for a couple of hours (but not on the battery !!) and then check the degree of dryness, and this may (!) Be enough.

7. After the gel is FULLY dry, take a sponge, slightly dampen the edge of it in water (do not saturate with water, just moisten it) and start applying water directly to the back of the white photo on wood. Do this carefully in several passes (wetting the sponge several times), first blotting the picture with a sponge, and then, when there is already a lot of water on the paper, continuing to move in neat circular movements. That is why - so that the material does not immediately begin to wash off with spools of water - it is necessary to print the picture initially on special paper for photographs, and not on ordinary office paper. Make sure to work with the soft part of the sponge and not with a hard layer to wipe off. During the process, when squeezing the sponge, a whitish liquid will flow into the glass, and this is normal. The paper should be completely blotted from center to edge with no gaps.

8. Further, still continuing to wet the sponge from time to time, start to erase the wet paper from the image with spools. Make sure to work not only in one central area, but equally around the edges so that the paper does not rub off in one place, because you can start deleting your transferred image. Do not be especially afraid of this, rub with light pressure, and the paper will come off quickly, the main thing is not to rub one place with effort, as if you are rubbing a stain; in particular, do not rub where the paper is gone.

The paper should thus come off completely. If there are areas that don't want to rub, use your own moistened fingers as they are smoother and feel more pressure and progress.

Swipe the sponge without pressure on the picture to remove all the spools, even small ones, and then without pressure with wet fingers on the same surface to make sure by the texture that there is no more paper, even a thin layer.

Wipe the image with a clean, thin towel to remove paper dust and moisture.

At the end of this stage, moisten your fingers again and walk again several times, but almost completely without pressure, according to the image, since the paper hairs probably still remain: while the paper is wet, it is not visible, but when it dries, it becomes very noticeable if left in the image.

9. Dry the picture on the wood again with a thin towel. We set aside the tree with the image until it is completely dry from moisture.

10. As you can see in the picture below, even if you rubbed very carefully, after drying, some paper fibers still “show up” in the image. You can use water again and then dry the picture again. But here's another, more efficient shutdown technique.

With one finger, take just a couple of drops of oil and gently apply it to the picture in a circular motion. And as you work, you will see how these villi just disappear. You have achieved the result you need - take a thin towel (paper or cloth) and start wiping the oil from the picture with the tip.

11. If, during work, a small amount of gel has gone beyond the edges of the image on a wooden base, just gently wipe off the frozen lumps of gel with your fingers.

12. By by and large, the work is done. But now you can decorate the frame, for example, using a special decorative adhesive tape with a pattern - washi-tape (freely sold on the Russian Internet). Here the frame is presented in the form of abstraction, repeating and shading the colors of the image. It is also convenient to glue the side edges of a wooden base with it. You can also use acrylic paint instead of ribbons. It is also worth painting over the back of the tree with one color.
