Stone wool is able to endure low and high temperatures ranging from -60 to +400 degrees. This indicates that this insulation copes well with high humidity conditions.

Work options

Soundproofing material can form the basis of various ceiling systems, for example, mineral wool can be installed in the hollow space of the suspension system. The canvases fit perfectly between the frame elements. But if you decide to use foam, then it is not recommended to use glue to fasten it, since the plates have a weight under which the material can move away from the base over time and cause even more noise. Glass wool can also be used, but it is worth remembering that this material must be well protected, since its elements can pose a danger to human health. In connection with this requirement, installation work using glass wool can be accompanied by more impressive labor costs. When using GKL as a finishing coating, special attention should be paid to joining the sheets, since sound penetrates perfectly through the cracks.

Soundproofing materials for walls

If you decide to get rid of the noise in the room in a complex way, by sealing the walls as well, you can choose soundproofing systems, which are abbreviated as ZIPS. They perform several functions at once. By installing them, you will prepare the surface of the walls for subsequent finishing. This material has an insulating layer and GKL. Several sound insulators are assembled in the panel, namely: gypsum fiber and mineral wool, the latter is sometimes replaced by glass wool. The thickness and combination of internal components may be different. The weight is 18.5 kg, while the dimensions of one canvas are 1500x500 mm. The thickness can vary between 40-130 mm. The described soundproofing materials can be fastened by means of structural units.

Among the natural noise absorbers, one can single out ISOPLAAT boards, which are based on fibers softwood. The canvas size is 2700x1200 mm, while the thickness can be equivalent to 10-25 mm. The weight is very small and limited to 4 kg.

After installing such a material, you do not have to prepare the wall for finishing. It is recommended to mount the described boards with glue. They perfectly pass air, which does not create the effect of a thermos in the room.

Alternative options for soundproofing walls

Considering soundproofing materials for walls, one can single out ISOTEX panels, they are based on exclusively natural components of coniferous trees, they are distinguished by excellent flexibility and elasticity. If you choose just this way of dealing with noise, then you have to work with canvases whose dimensions are limited to 2700x580 mm. With a thickness of 12-25 mm, the insulation has a weight of 1.2 kg, which ensures ease of installation. Such soundproofing materials for an apartment look great and do not imply the need for wall decoration after their installation, since their outer side has a decor in the form of vinyl wallpaper or linen fabric. Installation consists in connecting the plates with a lock, and if necessary, cutting, you can use a construction knife.

EcoZvukoIzol panels have gained quite high popularity among private craftsmen, this is due to the fact that this material is environmentally friendly, as it is based on seven-layer cardboard and quartz sand. The canvases are somewhat heavier than those described above: their weight is 10.5 kg, dimensions - 1200x450 mm. But working with them is easy, despite the impressive weight. If necessary, adjust the panel to size, you can use a hacksaw, and at the time of fastening, you must also use an adhesive composition designed for drywall.

If you are looking for soundproofing materials for an apartment, then you can also consider wall panels, which are known as KRAFT. They have environmentally friendly wood-fiber elements, which are pasted over with wax paper on the outside, while corrugated cardboard on the inside. Their weight is 5.5 kg, which facilitates the installation process, but the dimensions are 2700x580 mm, which implies the need to enlist the help of another person before starting work. The canvas is quite simple to glue, and after the composition dries, you can begin the decorative finish.

The cost of wall materials

The listed soundproof materials for walls have a lot of advantages, sometimes it makes it difficult to make a choice. Perhaps the price will affect this. If we compare the above materials, then ZIPS costs 1300 rubles / m 2. But "EcoZvukoIzol" will cost less - 900 rubles / m 2. Polyethylene foam for floor

Considering the soundproofing properties of materials, it is worth paying attention to polyethylene foam. It is also customary to lay it under the finish coating, for example, under the laminate. You can choose one of several varieties of this material. So, polyethylene with chemically bound molecules and cross-linked polyethylene have more impressive soundproofing characteristics compared to non-crosslinked polyethylene. Laying this material involves mandatory waterproofing, since when exposed to moisture, it can become moldy. It is advisable to lay it with a certain gap, since under mechanical loads the material loses up to 2/3 of its thickness, which causes a decrease in sound-absorbing properties.

"Shumanet" for the floor

Considering the types of sound-proofing materials, you will surely come across the Schumanet sound insulator. It is a composite substrate based on a multicomponent material. It contains three layers, the first of which is polyethylene, which protects against water, the second is polystyrene granules, while the third is a film that allows the penetration of moisture particles into polystyrene foam. After it is displayed around the perimeter of the room through the ventilation slots. The life of the material is about twenty years. It should be mounted by rolling, adhesive compositions are not used.

In addition to those listed, in order to combat noise, extruded polystyrene foam is used, which acts as the most dense variety of foam. It is practically like wood, does not absorb moisture at all, it is easy to work with it during the laying process, in addition, it is easy to cut it using a knife. It will last for about half a century. Considering soundproofing materials for walls or floors, you can choose it.

Speaking of the above, the most impressive degree of sound absorption is provided by the Shumanet-100 gaskets. At 3mm thick, they can reduce noise levels by as much as 23 decibels, while if you want even more impressive results, you can use 5mm material, the sound will be reduced by 27 decibels. The basis of the described gaskets is fiberglass, which has a special weave. If the manufacturer used staple weave, the noise would be reduced by 42 decibels. If you decide to lay these gaskets, then along the perimeter of the walls it is necessary to provide a gap, the width of which is 1 cm, which will be necessary to remove moisture.

Universal noise absorbers

When choosing soundproof materials for the ceiling, floor and walls, fiberboard can also be distinguished. It can be used in premises of any purpose. Sound waves, which are produced both by sources inside the house and outside it, propagate to all structures fixed to each other. The main parameters that determine the soundproofing properties of materials are Ib - the index of insulation from airborne noise, as well as Iy - the index of the reduced level of impact noise under the ceiling. In European countries, another designation of the parameters Ib and Iy is adopted - Rw and Ln, w, respectively. Indices Iv and Iy can be recalculated in Rw and Ln, w according to the formulas: Rw - Iv + 2 (dB), Ln, w - Iy - 7 (dB).

In the modern construction industry, the most popular and common are the following types of soundproof materials, according to the generally accepted classification:

  • Mineral wool;
  • Styrofoam;
  • Viscoelastic membranes;

Mineral wool One of the most common materials today is mineral wool. It perfectly absorbs sounds - moreover, both shock and air origin. These characteristics allow it to remain the most popular material for these purposes. For work, special plates or mats are used, made on the basis of acoustic mineral wool.

Such products are distinguished by high sound insulation rates, which are achieved due to the special arrangement of the fibers. The structure creates open air cavities that perfectly dampen sound vibrations. As a result, mineral wool is characterized by excellent sound insulation properties, while being characterized by low dynamic stiffness. A very important indicator of the effectiveness of sound insulation is the sound absorption coefficient ap, which depends on whether the wool is glued to the surface or separated from it by air space, whether there is facing materials. In addition, the sound absorption coefficient ap depends on the thickness of the material. As a rule, it is in the range from 0.75 to 1.

Expanded polystyrene is the second most popular material for these purposes. However, it is only capable of absorbing percussive sounds, and in order for it to obtain optimal sound insulation properties, it must be slightly pressed down so that the structure is compressed. But, despite this, the material is extremely common. Due to such specific parameters, expanded polystyrene is used mainly to provide insulation for ceilings - floors and ceilings. If laid on the floor, it can be perfectly compressed by pouring a concrete screed 3-6 cm thick.

Reinforcement of the screed makes it possible to protect it from cracking as a result of movements on a deformed base - under the influence of such a load, the height of the material decreases by 2-4 mm, the granules are compressed, providing excellent suppression of impact noise in the range of 25-33 dB.

It is necessary to lay the material on a flat base, close to each other. The seams are displaced by half the length of the slab, and the seams on the edge are usually made from the same material. Before pouring the screed, a separating layer of film material or roofing felt is laid on the expanded polystyrene base. For soundproofing, plates of small thickness - up to 4 cm are perfect.

membranes. With regard to viscoelastic membranes, they also seem to be a very convenient material for soundproofing. They are used, as a rule, to increase the protection of frame walls from extraneous sounds. However, viscoelastic membranes are also manufactured for:

  • walls;
  • ceilings;
  • floors;
  • roofing;
  • engineering communications.

They are high-density synthetic soundproofing materials made of polymers, without the use of bituminous resins and rubber. Differ in high rates of elasticity, flexibility, durability, durability and fire resistance. They are also used as vibration-damping middle layers to increase the sound insulation of frame walls and prevent the occurrence of resonant effects. A viscoelastic membrane is glued onto gypsum boards from the inside of the supporting frame. The use of such materials makes it possible to increase protection against extraneous sounds by 25-32 dB.

Polyurethane. For sound insulation of individual parts of the apartment - bathroom, toilet, kitchen, living room and others, polyurethane is also often used. As a rule, foamed polymers are used in studio rooms, as the easiest way to provide sound insulation for walls, ceilings and partitions between neighboring apartments or rooms.

Panels. V Lately Sandwich panels began to gain great popularity in the market of soundproof materials. They can be completely different in length and composition; they are used, as a rule, for soundproofing single-layer partitions. Today, more and more often, to create additional protection of single-layer partitions (for example, brick walls) from sound waves, they began to use ready-made soundproofing systems. These are sandwich panels of different thicknesses, which consist of a combination of materials of different densities and structural characteristics. The advantages of their use include the absence of the need to install a metal frame - they are attached directly to the walls.

One of the most popular options is a combination of a dense layer (gypsum fiber sheet) and a light layer (mineral wool) - the thickness and structure of the materials may vary. They are mounted using vibration-isolating materials through special units made by the manufacturer. The thickness of such panels can be from 40 to 150 mm, and is selected based on the thickness of the supporting partition. The increase in the sound insulation index depends on the density and can range from 10 to 20 dB.

It is also possible to use triplex panels in the form of durable multilayer cellulose frames with mineral fillers, in which specially selected mineralogical compositions are used. They are mounted to the walls with dowels (possibly also to the crate), and also laid on the floor, replacing floating floor systems and cement screeds. Each of the carcass layers has its own indicators of multiple reflection and scattering of sound waves, which makes it possible to achieve a reduction in airborne noise of up to 37 dB with a material thickness of 10 mm.

Cork. Natural cork materials have been used for a long time to create high-quality sound insulation of premises, however, thanks to the development modern technologies, the sound-absorbing qualities of cork flooring are constantly improving. And, if previously a technical cork with a grain size of 5-8 mm was used, today it is made with better sound insulation indicators, which are provided by smaller sizes - 1-3 mm, but the air voids here are 3 times larger.

Ecowool. Cellulose insulation based on ecowool is also excellently used as a soundproofing material - at the same time, they can be used for different types of noise and different rooms. The material is obtained in the process of processing secondary raw materials - waste paper. It consists of 80% recycled cellulose, 15% antiseptics, and 5% fire retardant. It is used not only for insulation, but also for suppression of airborne noise:

  • on floors that separate unused attics;
  • filling frame walls and partitions.

The soundproofing characteristics of ecowool are due to the structural features of the material - there are a large number of fibers separated by air space. It is blown with the help of special equipment and, depending on the place of application, is laid in layers of different densities.

Foam glass. The material has high technical and operational characteristics - high strength, resistance to aggressive chemical compounds, fire safety, ease of processing, thanks to which the material has gained immense popularity in European countries. Foam glass plates are very easy to cut - they can be mounted both outside (lay as a middle layer of an insulating "pie") and indoors. In addition, they can serve for the construction of light internal partitions. A 10 cm thick slab provides protection against sound insulation up to 30 dB.

Rubber. Rubber-based soundproofing materials are excellent for absorbing impact types of noise. Very often used for industrial premises, however residential buildings can also be isolated with their help. They are made from recycled rubber (sometimes with the addition of cork).

Very often they are used as sound insulation under household appliances, the operation of which is accompanied by the appearance of vibration waves (washing and dishwashers). They can also be used directly under floor coverings, under floating screed or concrete slabs, as well as under hard floor elements on a wooden base.

Manufacturers offer materials for various types of flooring: parquet, parquet boards, laminates, carpets, linoleums and even ceramic tiles. During installation, it is necessary to control that there are no gaps left - all layers must be tightly fixed to each other, otherwise acoustic bridges will appear on the seams, which worsen the design parameters. Allows you to reduce impact noise up to 15-33 dB.

Substrates. The peculiarity of underlays for flooring is that they suppress shock, but not airborne noise. However, they will be indispensable for laying under laminate and parquet, especially if the construction of these floor coverings does not include a layer of sound absorber. Helps to prevent the appearance of dull noises, which are accompanied by walking on the floor, and which are heard in the rooms below. Substrates for sound insulation can be presented in the form of:

  • Elastic mats made of 4 mm thick polyethylene foam, which level the unevenness of the bases, prevent the spread of impact noise and the occurrence of sound bridges;
  • Fibreboard made from pressed wood fibres. They are light and porous, they are an even and elastic basis for floor coverings;
  • Cork mats that are compressible and elastic, do not absorb water and do not age;
  • Corrugated cardboard, which perfectly suppresses noise and does not let water vapor through, while not shrinking;
  • Tuplex mats, which are approximately 3 mm thick, are a two-layer polyethylene film heterogeneous composition, separated by a layer of polystyrene foam granules, which are recessed in glue. Great for laying under wooden or panel floors. They are distinguished by high noise suppression capabilities - 17 dB. This material has moisture-proof properties, so when laying it, the use of a vapor barrier is not required.
  • Polyurethane foam mats, depending on the type of which can be used for laying under elastic coatings on glue, linoleum, as well as under glued and free-standing rubber or carpet materials. They can also be laid on load-bearing floor structures, on seamless, puttied plank floors, PVC coatings, on stone and ceramic tile floors, varnished parquet floors. The thickness of the mats is 2.5 mm, and the noise suppression capabilities are 17-19 dB. Polyurethane foam mats improve sound insulation by 23 dB.

Mountings on which sound insulation is installed deserve special attention. As a rule, for these purposes it is necessary to mount plasterboard frame structures on walls and ceilings. However, the presence of a rigid fixation between the protected surfaces and the metal frame in the form of standard metal hangers and brackets leads to the fact that even with the use of gaskets, the noise is transmitted to the cladding and then to the premises.

To solve this problem, it is necessary to use special soundproof fasteners that are strong enough, but at the same time plastic, and also have soundproofing characteristics in a wide frequency range. Fasteners have a large number of varieties, they differ in scope, design features and the type of elastic element used.

However, sound insulation can be not only continuous - there is also local insulation. In addition, very often there is protection not from external sound waves, but vice versa - it is necessary to protect neighboring rooms from sounds, in such cases acoustic insulation is performed.

Local soundproofing

Since childhood, everyone has known "spy" ways to listen to neighbors through sockets. Typically, these elements are different apartments they are made through, and the builders not only do not equip them with soundproofing, but do not even put up partitions. In such cases, you can simply call an electrician or fix the problem yourself, following the rules and safety precautions when working with electricity.

To do this, it is necessary to de-energize the socket, remove it and then remove the mounting box. The hole must be sealed with cement or mounting putty, after drying which you can mount the outlet in place. This method allows you to eliminate another source of local noise penetration - junction boxes. As a rule, they are located in the walls or under the ceiling, hidden under wallpaper or other finishing material. They are very easy to find by simply tapping the wall, although in this case it is best to use the services of professionals, since there are a large number of electrical cables.

Another source of local noise can be plumbing, heating and sewage risers. Their soundproofing should be carried out at the construction stage - sleeves of a larger size than required are inserted into the ceilings, and the space between them is filled with non-combustible soundproofing material. From above it is sealed with a special plastic sealant (how to choose it, read the material about sealants). However, in practice, the situation is completely opposite - the pipes are simply passed through the floors, and the gaps are sealed with simple cement, which not only conducts sound waves perfectly, but cracks and collapses over time.

To eliminate this drawback, it is necessary to clear the old cement as deep as possible, wrap the pipe with soundproofing material, cement the dismantled section of the floor, and seal the joints themselves.

The last point of local sound insulation is the elimination of deep cracks between partitions and walls. To create barriers to sound waves, you can fill the joints with gypsum plaster, cement, or plastic sealant.

Acoustic isolation

Most modern premises providing a comfortable acoustic environment is one of the main functional requirements (for example, for cinemas, concert halls, multipurpose and conference halls, office premises and others).

The acoustic characteristics of the premises significantly affect the nature of the sound reproduction in them. That is why structures that are intended, for example, for lectures and concerts, must have different acoustic parameters.

One of the main criteria that characterize the acoustic qualities of rooms is the reverberation index (RT60). At their high values, the perception of sounds is distorted, speech intelligibility indicators decrease, at very small values, the effects of “lifelessness” of the premises, “dryness” of the reproduced sound effects appear. In most cases, modern acoustic materials and constructions make it possible to ensure optimal reverberation rates (or adjust them), which provide high sound absorption rates in rooms.

To ensure optimal sound absorption, the greatest attention should be paid to the ceiling space. Therefore, "acoustic" ceilings have been made for quite a long time, which absorb sounds. In large buildings, where the ceiling space alone is not enough to improve acoustics, it is also recommended to use special sound-absorbing wall panels.

The technical and operational characteristics of ceiling and wall sound-absorbing panels include: acoustic and hygienic parameters, moisture resistance, fire-technical parameters, impact resistance, lighting characteristics and duration of operation. To date, there are a large number of materials that are suitable for solving not one technological problem, but a whole range of requirements, for example, to provide the necessary acoustic parameters in rooms with high humidity- in the pools. The choice of materials for ceilings or walls depends on various parameters: the functionality of the premises, their volumes, the cost of materials, design features and others, as well as on which frequency range needs to be corrected.
