History of origin

The floribunda family was obtained by crossing hybrid-polyanthus roses with hybrid tea and other garden groups. "Floibunda" literally means "profusely blooming".

The variety itself, Mona Lisa, is quite new since it was discovered in 2007 by the French company Meilland International.

Differences from other species

Mona Lisa roses differ from other varieties in their amazing winter hardiness, disease resistance and long flowering.

Bloom

Roses bloom from June to October, each flower is collected in an inflorescence, one peduncle can have up to 5 flowers at a time.

Care before and after

In order for flowers to delight you with their wondrous flowering as long as possible, you need:

  • regular and abundant watering;
  • seasonal feeding (alternation of mineral impurities and organic matter);
  • loosening and mulching the soil;
  • pruning.

In early spring, you can add peat and manure to the soil, so the bush will receive additional nutrition.

With the onset of winter, roses need protection. Despite their unpretentiousness, they need to be covered:

  • cut the bushes in half;
  • remove the remaining leaves;
  • to huddle the earth;
  • cover with oak leaves, spruce branches.

Your snow cover is ready.

What if it doesn't bloom?

Everyone may be faced with the fact that this profusely flowering variety has ceased to delight with its buds. This indicates improper care. The reasons may be:

  • defeat by fungal diseases that inhibit the development of flowers;
  • unsuitable soil (soil acidity should be 6-7 pH);
  • severe frosts (the plant must be prepared in advance for winter).

Attention! Keep the flowerbed where roses grow clean, treat the soil from grass that prevents moisture from entering.

Use in landscape design

There is a place for these beautiful flowers in any garden. A rose can become the basis of a flower garden, transform a mixborder, be used in a group or single planting. The plant will do for anyone landscape style.

Step by step care instructions

A place

The health of a rose largely depends on the planting site.... It is necessary to find a lighted place where the plant can be in the shade in the midday heat, this will help to avoid burns near the petals. Also, roses will be comfortable in a corner where there is no constant drying draft.

Time

Floribundas love the warmer months. The best option- from mid-April to late May. However, if you decide to plant flowers in the fall, then you should start by mid-September, because before the onset of frost they will have time to take root. The deadline for planting is mid to late October.

What should be the soil?

Breathable soil is great for rose bushes. where the plant will be provided enough moisture and air.

To make heavy clayey chernozem light, peat, compote, sand or humus should be added to them.

If the soil is too light, then it is necessary to add clay soil with addition turf land, compost or humus. Favorable soil reaction is slightly acidic. The optimum depth of groundwater is at least 100 cm.

Landing

We list known methods landing.

Growing from seeds

It is very important to purchase quality seeds... They are planted in the ground in compliance with the care regimen. This is not to say that such a planting will give one hundred percent pecking, usually several shoots are obtained from a pack.

Important! At home, this method is ineffective, since it is difficult to preserve the species characteristics of roses.

Saplings

How to choose a seedling? The seedling should have three ripe lignified shoots with intact bark and developed root system with many thin roots. The diameter of the root collar should be the same below and above the inoculation site and should not exceed 5-8 mm.

  • The first way... Landing is carried out together. Pour the prepared mixture into a hole, then lower the seedling into it to a depth of 8 cm. The second person spreads the roots and fills them with soil mixture, compacting with his hands. After that, the seedling is watered until moisture is completely absorbed and covered with earth, leaving until spring. When planting, try not to damage the bark on the neck and skeletal roots.
  • Second way... A bucket of water with a tablet of heteroauxin or sodium humate is poured into the pit. Hold the seedling with one hand, lowering it to the center of the pit, slowly fall asleep with the other potting soil... Compact the soil periodically and shake the plant. Watering is not needed in this case. If the ground has subsided, slightly raise the seedling by adding soil and hilling it by 15 cm. After the seedlings need to be shaded, this will take 10-12 days.

Temperature

Rose Mona Lisa tolerates Russian winter well, its frost resistance allows it to tolerate low temperatures down to -29⁰C.

Watering

Any plant needs water... Keep in mind that water consumption is not the same during different growth phases. During the period of intensive development (budding, the appearance of leaves) and after the first flowering, the rose (new shoots) really needs watering. Do not water the flowers in the heat, spray, without getting on the leaves, the settled water from the watering can without a nozzle to the base of the bush.

The infection with fungal diseases of wet leaves increases at night.

With the onset of autumn, you should refrain from watering... The need for moisture arises if the soil is not moistened by precipitation.

Top dressing

For feeding, combined and organic fertilizers... Please note that floribunda reacts to salts in the soil solution, refrain from large doses of fertilizers.

Before planting roses, the soil should be fertilized with cow dung.... It is tucked in upper layer, applying about kg per 1m2 on light soil, about half of this value - on heavy soil.

Do not let the roots come into contact with fresh manure, this will have a detrimental effect on the seedling.

Fertilizers are applied from the second year, doing this every spring and summer.

Weeding

Regular weeding will keep the plant from rotting roots.

Mulching

Cover the soil before mulching special material(foliage, peat, hay or old manure). For proper care use mulch or flooring. Spread an 8-centimeter (8 cm) layer of mulch between the flower bushes after pruning and treating the beds.

Loosening

Rose bushes need loose soil to grow and develop. where moisture, air and heat penetrate. Loosening will help save water for irrigation and fertilization. Processing is carried out at a depth of no more than 10 cm.

Pruning

First year

  • Autumn... Shorten stems, prune diseased roots before planting.
  • Spring... Shorten the main shoots by 3-5 lengths from the base of the bush.
  • Autumn... Pinch off the main stems, flowering shoots and trim off non-lignified shoots.

Second

  • Spring... April-March. Trim off any dead stems and overlapping shoots.
  • Autumn... September October. Pinch off flowering shoots and main stems. Cut off non-flowering shoots. Subsequent years.
  • Spring... It is necessary to remove dead parts of flowers, weak stems and shoots that grow inward. The thickened middle of the bush should be rid of old stems.

Use a sharp pruner or garden var.

Transfer

Cuttings are suitable for this. The algorithm is simple:

  1. cut woody shoots;
  2. remove thorns and leaves;
  3. treat the sections with special preparations;
  4. set the cuttings halfway into the pits;
  5. stick to an interval of 20-30 cm;
  6. cover with foil until rooting;
  7. water, ventilate the seedlings and loosen the soil.

Hide young shoots for the winter, only after that the bushes can be planted in a new place.

Preparing for winter

Before sheltering, cut the roses and spud the ground at the base of the bush.... Build a frame of greenhouse arcs, slats, profile or wire, it should be 20-30 cm above the plants. Insulation is laid on it, a film is stretched from above, side air vents remain.

Roses calmly tolerate light frosts, so you should not rush into shelter.

Types and methods of reproduction

Cuttings

We cut the cuttings up to about 10 cm long, up to 0.7 cm thick, remove the leaves and thorns. Place them in a phytohormone for better rooting. The hole should be more than 10 cm, with one straight side, where the cutting will lean. Recommended planting distance 15-20 cm... Then we cover this system with a film and periodically remove it for maintenance (airing, watering, etc.). Do not forget to remove weeds, they will hinder the growth of flowers.

Cuttings are prepared from young, strong bushes.

Budding

The method is quite complex, subject to professionals. To the donor, wild rosehip, a scion is grafted, they are tied to each other for a month, so as not to disrupt growth. Slices are covered with garden pitch... After two weeks, we check the kidney, if it is green and swollen, everything is fine, otherwise the result is unsuccessful.

Diseases and pests

The most famous pests: spider mites, rose-colored aphids or sawflies. Spider mite and the rosin sawfly are exterminated by DDT, Isophene or Akrex. Aphids can be removed by hand or with the help of Rogor, etc.

  • Rust... Orange-red spots on the leaves are treated with zinc preparations.
  • Black spot... Black spots on the leaves that are interconnected. You can use an infusion of mullein, if this does not help, then process it with Kaptan.
  • Powdery mildew... Reddish-brown spots that are covered with bloom. It should be treated with mullein infusion or use insecticides Benlat, Karatan.

Eliminate soil acidification near the planting area to protect the plant from this disease.

Amazing properties, easy care and stunning looks will impress any nature lover. This rose is suitable for both a novice gardener and a true professional in their field. Thanks to its flowering, Mona Lisa will delight you for more than one year.

In Russia, this variety, from the "Romance" series, is not widespread. Bred, or rather opened by Meilland in 2007, receives only positive reviews rose growers. Despite the fact that the variety is relatively new, it does not leave a potential buyer indifferent, thanks to the beautiful dense double flowers of the old form and the beautiful shape of the bush (height about 80 cm, width about 50 cm), rich glossy dark green foliage, excellent disease resistance and frost, excellent repair, abundant flowering, self-purification and resistance to rain. Also, rose growers who grow this variety note that its flowers droop on the bushes only at the end of flowering. Mona Lisa buds are densely double, of medium size, reaching a diameter of 6 to 8 cm, practically odorless. Color from dark red to crimson. A very worthy variety, very similar in characteristics to the Red Leonardo Da Vinci.

Reviews from Rosebuck.

The rose was planted this year. Even in extreme heat it bloomed and grew very well. Beautiful, healthy foliage, did not hurt anything. The flower is very full, lasts a long time. An excellent rose.

Rose wintered well, once again I want to praise her. The rain does not hold 2 drops, but all 3. (as described)

The rose has grown over the summer from a small bush to the size of a satellite dish! Bloomed all summer, flowers are not afraid of anything. From diseases - powdery mildew from September on the tips of young shoots.

A wonderful rose. Planted the first year. Favorite. A flower of noble form. There are roses that are disheveled, and this one is a lady. Petal to petal, bright saturated color, does not fade in full sun, lasts up to 2 weeks on a bush, keeps rain well. Blooms profusely, foliage is not visible behind the flowers.

Just smart! Highly beautiful colour, and keeps flowers amazingly long! Aging flowers do not look bad, the bush is constantly in bloom until late autumn! Has undergone 2 transplants and blooms beautifully. A hardy and highly decorative variety!

Wonderful rose! It grows and blooms continuously in the company of Larissa and Jean Cocteau. All support each other and look in complete harmony in the color company. I wintered without any problems. The bush is beautifully shaped, about 70 cm high. The foliage is healthy, in ch.p. not seen.

The rose is my best purchase this year. The bush has grown to H80cm, curly, all in flowers. There are no breaks in flowering at all, the smallest flowers on the bush are 5 pieces. Flowers do not react to rain or constant sun. Didn't hurt at all. (N. Novgorod, sand, full sun)

Hint for assessing the variety of roses (click to see)

The decorativeness of flowering and the beauty of a flower

This is a complex, purely subjective assessment, reflecting exclusively the personal preferences of a gardener - a rose grower. After all, both a lush, thick-doubled beauty and a simple shy woman with five leaves can "hook" and "fall in love" with the same success. The assessment includes the general attitude towards the color of the rose, the constitution and quality of the flower, the abundance and continuity of the flowering.
★ very low. Completely dissatisfied with the appearance of the flower and the nature of the flowering (looseness, nondescript, weak rapid flowering)
★★ low. Not satisfied with the appearance of the flower and the nature of the flowering (the flower is not impressive, there are few of them, the flowering duration is normal)
★★★ average. Satisfied with the appearance of the flower and the nature of the flowering, but expected more, although the flower and flowering are normal

Gave standard rose... Mona Lisa, red, stem height 80 cm, there is a support in the pot, to which the stem is attached. I would like advice on landing.
I understand that the support needs to be removed, the stem should be planted at an angle of 45 g, the support should be placed vertically on the other side of the bump (by the way, how? The roots will not be damaged when you insert it) ...
Is it correct or not? Please help with advice!

I'll tell you about my method of planting boles. I think that this method is the most acceptable, because it removes the problem of annual injury to the root, rather than sticking and pulling out a support stick every time in spring and autumn. I invented this combination back in the spring of last year.
Took metal-plastic pipe 1 meter long, matched to it in diameter aluminum tube to enter the first one with little effort (so one does not dangle into the other). When planting, metal-plastic is driven into the ground by about 70 cm, respectively, a permanent base sticks out on the surface for an aluminum removable insert-holder of the stem. Very comfortably.

Does it matter how to plant relative to the cardinal points. If like fruit seedlings, then with a lump to the south (and then bend to the south for the winter). Or is it all the same?

It is necessary to take into account when planting only that moment - WHERE will you lay your bole in the fall. So that it does not work on the path or, when laying, suddenly do not rest the top of the pink trunk against the cherry or apple tree.

We get a vertical support and an inclined stem for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, attach the stem to the support, thereby bringing it to a vertical position.

Yes, I did the same.
