Olympic champion Rio Ramonov: I want to forget about the fight for a while and be with my family

The champion of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 65 kg Soslan Ramonov in an interview with the special correspondent of the "R-Sport" agency Oleg Bogatov spoke about his wife and daughter, sympathy for gymnasts, love for his native land and Ossetian pies, called football player Messi is a player from God and expressed hope for the revival of football in the republic.

Soslan, once again I congratulate you on your victory and want to say thank you for the holiday that you presented to all of Russia. The question is still about the same struggle, but from a slightly different angle - what helps you to prepare for tournaments?

- Before fights, I usually look through photographs of people close to me: daughters, wives, relatives. This calms me down well and gives only positive emotions. Photos distract me from the struggle, do not allow me to think about the negative and create a good mood.

Your daughter is quite small, isn't it?

-Yes, she will soon be eleven months old. Little, funny like that, runs, crawls.

What did you call her, and what is the name of your spouse?

- Daughter Aminka, and wife Christina.

You didn’t have a wedding so long ago, didn’t you?

- Recently, in 2014.

Is Kristina also from Ossetia?

- Yes, she is from Vladikavkaz.

How did you meet? Do you spend all the time at training camps and competitions, when did you manage?

-She is also an athlete, and we met at the Sports Palace.

And in what form?

-She did rhythmic gymnastics. This is a terrible sport: it does not bring any benefit to a person, but only suffering - now everything hurts her. People, one might say, become disabled.

You probably can't watch rhythmic gymnastics competitions?

-When I attend the team's training camp at the training base in Novogorsk, I see girls gymnasts. And after all, they practically do not eat anything, withstanding the weight. It's a pity, because they are destroying their body. It is very difficult, but we have very strong and strong-willed gymnasts. Both in artistic gymnastics and in rhythmic gymnastics - all the girls are just great.

What other sports do you follow besides wrestling?

-I love sports in all its forms, and I myself am engaged in all kinds of mobile: volleyball, basketball, I love to play football. Football is very popular in Ossetia.

Of course, everyone knows that Ossetia is a football republic. Surely you are well acquainted with the guys from Alania, who played and are playing for her?

- Yes, of course, and I also have football friends. Batik Khadartsev is a good guy, Serder Serderov, who now plays for another club.

Is he now, if I'm not mistaken, playing in Bulgaria, in the Slavia club, which is coached by Alexander Tarkhanov?

-Yes, that's right. He is a pupil of CSKA, we are well acquainted with him from the time when we were together at the CSKA boarding school. They then trained next to us.

Are you texting or calling him?

-I'm sorry, but very rare. We have a little free time, and once again I do not want to distract him from his affairs. Therefore, we mostly communicate only when we meet.

Soslan, the victory at the Olympics is a landmark milestone, to which you have been walking for at least four years. In fact, there is much more. Now what are your goals in life, because for now you can forget about the next Olympics?

- For a while, you can generally forget about freestyle wrestling. I want to relax at home with my family. Because we can't be at home often, we spend a lot of time at training camps. I will rest, and then with fresh energy I will prepare for the new Olympic cycle for the Games in Tokyo.

When do you plan to return to the carpet?

- I will decide based on how I feel. By the end of the year, I think, I will already begin to slowly prepare and perform. And now I just want to relax for a month or two.

But now you will not be given a rest at all - solemn meetings, celebrations, awards will begin.

- These chores are pleasant and useful, these are positive and joyful moments for me.

I have no doubt that many people, and not only friends and fans, congratulate you with calls and SMS. Do you have time to answer?

- After the victory, I practically did not go to social networks for two days. And I don't have time to answer all the congratulations. And with your help, I want to apologize to everyone to whom I did not have time to answer. I want to thank everyone for their support, for kind words, for being rooted and worried about me and our team.

Many coaches have complaints about athletes who spend a lot of time on social networks. Do they not distract you from the competition or, on the contrary, help you somehow distract yourself from what is happening around?

- They can take the necessary time, probably only from those who have head problems. And I am not sick with social networks - so that I can go and spend the whole day in them. I can go in for a while, scroll through, see new messages and that's it. And it happens that I don't appear there at all for the whole day. I don’t suffer from such a disease, I don’t have such problems.

You were not born in Ossetia?

- How to say. I was born in South Ossetia, in Tskhinvali, and then my family moved to Vladikavkaz sometime in 1997. To be honest, I don't remember the time very well, I was very young.

You are not the first Olympic champion from South Ossetia, are you?

-No, Vadim Bogiev used to be the winner of the Olympics. By the way, Vadim is also a pupil of my personal trainer, the head coach of CSKA in wrestling Anatoly Khazbievich Margiev. And it is interesting that in 1996 Vadim became the Olympic champion in my own weight category. And after his victory, the Russian national team did not have an Olympic champion in this weight. 20 years have passed, and again my coach Anatoly Khazbievich prepared a person who was born in South Ossetia and returned the gold medal to our Russia in this weight category.

When you first started training, who were the fighters you looked up to and wanted to be like?

- I think that we should not be equal to anyone. Unless only for the titles that they won. And equalizing and imitating someone is not very good, because everyone has their own path. Every athlete has its pros and cons, everyone has their own head on their shoulders, everyone thinks differently, and there are no similar fighters. We must strive only to become, if we talk about imitation, to become a two-time or three-time Olympic champion, like our great athletes and wrestlers.

But are there any techniques that you took from other wrestlers?

- I cannot answer your question. Because I don't think the way I do my moves is similar to what other wrestlers do. And vice versa. But I really like the fight shown by Besik Kudukhov, who, unfortunately, died tragically (in a car accident in December 2013). I like how Makhach Murtuzaliev fought (bronze medalist of the 2004 Olympic Games, two-time world champion). We have a lot of athletes who performed very beautifully, and those who still wrestle just as beautifully.

Your victory in Rio de Janeiro to some extent and a victory for Besik, who never managed to reach Olympic gold?

- Yes, he played twice at the Olympic Games, and he could not get to the highest step of the podium (Kudukhov is a bronze medalist of the Beijing Games (in weight up to 55 kg) and a silver medalist at the London Olympics (up to 60 kg I dedicate all my victories to him, and I am glad that I managed to get gold for him. The first gold.

Soslan, what are your hobbies in your free time, although I understand that there is not much of it and everything is given to the family.

- When I am at home in Vladikavkaz during the pauses between training camps, I very often go out of town. We have beautiful mountains, like all the surrounding wildlife, and fresh air. I strongly advise you to come to us in Ossetia. I get away from the bustle of the city, where it is a little freer, where it is easy to breathe, where the wind is blowing, where there are beautiful mountains around.

And, probably, by all means prepare a barbecue?

- And what about without him (laughs)? What Caucasian resident doesn't like barbecue? This is, in my opinion, also in our blood.

What dishes do you prefer? Indeed, on the one hand, Ossetian cuisine is very tasty and inviting, but on the other, you constantly have to keep your weight.

- Yes, with weight this can be a big problem. When I start to lose weight, my appetite kicks in. After all, our Ossetian pies are so tasty that sometimes a person does not hold back and goes into them headlong (with a smile). Ossetian cuisine is really delicious and I love many dishes. And since I am an omnivorous person, then, one might say, I really love almost everything.

Can you get out to football?

- To be honest, I don't want to go to the matches of the Russian championship often. But I really like foreign football, I like to watch Spanish and English football. And I have been a fan of Barcelona for a long time.

And why exactly for Barcelona?

- Probably due to the fact that in 2003 or 2004 Ronaldinho joined the team, to whom I was very sympathetic. Because in 2002 at the World Cup, when he played for the first time, I liked his football, and his smile, and his openness and cheerfulness. And since then I have been rooting for him, and since he played for Barcelona, I also liked this team. And I still like it, because the great Lionel Messi plays for her, for whom I am very much rooting. And I am impressed by the game performed by the whole team, I wish them only new victories.

Messi is now number one in world football?

- Well, what about? There is no such footballer anymore. I don't think it will appear in the next hundred years.

Who will you put in second place?

- Ronaldo is good, he is, of course, a very strong and technical footballer. But I like the player who is more and more based on improvisation. And Ronaldo acts like a robot - all his movements are the same, he doesn't show anything new. And I love improvisation when everything is done spontaneously. And this is a gift from God.

What is happening now with the main team of the republic - will the former glory of the champion of Russia "Alania" be revived?

Hope and wait. Our republic now lacks big football (Spartak-Vladikavkaz plays in the South zone of the second division), because we have very good traditions. All our fans are waiting for the team to play in the Premier League again and play with the best clubs in the country.

Who is more popular in the republic - football players or wrestlers?

- I do not even know. Most likely footballers. But the fighters are also respected, and now I think that the whole city and the whole of Ossetia know about my victory in Rio de Janeiro.

An excerpt characterizing Ramonov, Soslan Ludvikovich

Pierre woke up late on September 3rd. His head ached, the dress in which he slept without undressing, weighed down his body, and in his soul there was a vague consciousness of something shameful, committed the day before; it was shameful yesterday's conversation with Captain Rambal.
The clock showed eleven, but it seemed especially cloudy outside. Pierre got up, rubbed his eyes and, seeing the pistol with a cut-out stock, which Gerasim put back on the writing table, Pierre remembered where he was and what he had to do on that particular day.
“Am I too late? Thought Pierre. "No, he will probably make his entry into Moscow no earlier than twelve." Pierre did not allow himself to reflect on what lay ahead, but he was in a hurry to act as soon as possible.
Straightening his dress, Pierre took a pistol in his hands and was getting ready to go. But then for the first time the thought came to him of how, not in his hand, along the street to carry this weapon to him. Even under a wide caftan it was difficult to hide a large pistol. It was impossible to place it inconspicuously neither under the belt nor under the arm. In addition, the pistol was unloaded, and Pierre did not have time to load it. “All the same, a dagger,” Pierre said to himself, although he more than once, discussing the fulfillment of his intention, decided with himself that the student's main mistake in 1809 was that he wanted to kill Napoleon with a dagger. But, as if Pierre's main goal was not to carry out the intended business, but to show himself that he does not renounce his intention and does everything to fulfill it, Pierre hastily took the one he had bought from the Sukharev Tower along with a pistol a blunt jagged dagger in a green sheath and tucked under his vest.
Girdling his caftan and pulling on his cap, Pierre, trying not to make noise and not meet the captain, walked down the corridor and went out into the street.
The fire, which he had gazed at so indifferently the night before, had grown considerably overnight. Moscow was already burning from different directions. Burning at the same time Karetny Ryad, Zamoskvorechye, Gostiny Dvor, Povarskaya, barges on the Moscow River and the wood market near Dorogomilovsky Bridge.
Pierre's path lay through the lanes to Povarskaya and from there to the Arbat, to Nikolai Yavlenny, in whose imagination he had long ago determined the place where his work was to be done. Most of the houses had gates and shutters locked. The streets and alleys were deserted. The air smelled of smoke and smoke. Occasionally we met Russians with restlessly timid faces and Frenchmen with a non-urban, camp-like air walking along the middle of the streets. Both of them looked at Pierre in surprise. In addition to his great height and thickness, besides a strange gloomily concentrated and suffering expression on his face and the whole figure, the Russians looked closely at Pierre, because they did not understand what class this person could belong to. The French, on the other hand, followed him with surprise with their eyes, especially because Pierre, disgusted with all other Russians, who looked frightened or curious at the French, did not pay any attention to them. At the gate of one house, three Frenchmen, who were interpreting something to the Russian people who did not understand them, stopped Pierre, asking if he knew French.
Pierre shook his head and walked on. In another lane, a sentry standing at the green box shouted at him, and Pierre, only at the repeated threatening cry and the sound of the gun taken by the sentry in his hand, realized that he had to go around the other side of the street. He did not hear or see anything around him. He, like something terrible and alien to him, with haste and horror carried within himself his intention, fearing - taught by the experience of the previous night - to somehow lose it. But Pierre was not destined to convey his mood intact to the place where he was going. In addition, even if he had not been delayed by anything on the way, his intention could not have been fulfilled already because Napoleon had traveled more than four hours ago from Dorogomilovsky suburb through the Arbat to the Kremlin and was now sitting in the most gloomy mood in the tsar's office. of the Kremlin Palace and gave detailed, detailed orders on measures that should have been taken immediately to extinguish the fire, prevent looting and calm the inhabitants. But Pierre did not know this; he, completely absorbed in what was ahead, was tormented, as people who stubbornly undertake an impossible task are tormented - not because of difficulties, but because of the alienation of the matter with their nature; he was tormented by the fear that he would weaken at the decisive moment and, as a result, lose respect for himself.
Although he did not see or hear anything around him, he knew the way by instinct and was not mistaken by the alleys that led him to Povarskaya.

"SY" continues to present to your attention the victorious path to Rio, the statistics of performances in the entire cycle, as well as the biography of all the conquerors of Olympus in freestyle wrestling. Story # 2 - Olympic champion in the weight category of 65 kg Soslan Ramonov.

Details Sep 1 16 - 17:09 Details

SOSLAN RAMONOV (RUSSIA). Weight - 65 kg. Age - 25 years old

The future Olympic champion was born on January 1, 1991 in the city of Tskhinvali, South Ossetia. At the competitions he plays for North Ossetia-Alania and the Moscow region. He is engaged in the CSKA sports club under the guidance of the honored coach of Russia Anatoly Margiev. At the youth level, Soslan twice won the European championships (2008, 2009), but at the youth level he did not shine with his loud victories. And among adults, Ramonov did not immediately become a leader. In 2012, the Ossetian wrestler first won the Russian championship in St. Petersburg (66 kg - 3rd place). Changing the wrestling rules in 2013 did him only good, as Soslan preached an attacking style of wrestling. The results were not long in coming. At the 2013 Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk, he became the second, losing in the final to the Dagestani Magomed Kurbanaliev (3: 7). But a year later, in Yakutsk, Soslan Ramonov won the title of Russian champion for the first time in his career and won the right to participate in the world championship in Tashkent, where he confidently took first place. However, the reigning champion of Russia and the world could not confirm his leadership at the 2015 national championship in Kaspiysk. In the gold final, Ramonov was defeated by the owner of the carpet, Ilyas Bekbulatov (4: 4+). Despite this defeat, it was decided to send Ramonov to the World Championship in Las Vegas. In the USA, Soslan finished third. In the semifinals, the favorite unexpectedly lost on the carcass to the Uzbek wrestler Ikhtior Navruzov, but nevertheless brought the Russian team an Olympic ticket.

Ramonov began the Olympic year with an impressive victory at the Alexander Medved 2016 Grand Prix in Minsk. In an exciting final, he defeated the reigning world champion Frank Chamiso from Italy (8: 7). Soslan won the pre-Olympic championship of Russia no less beautifully. And again it happened in Yakutsk. In the decisive battle, he was more than confidently defeated by Israil Kasumov from Krasnoyarsk (8: 3).

At the Olympics, Soslan Ramonov showed the best wrestling in terms of both quality and entertainment. With a whirlwind, he walked through Canadian Hayslan Antonio Veranes Garcia (7: 1), Cuban Alejandro Valdes Tobier (11: 3), Mongol Mandakhnaran Ganzorigu (6: 0) and in the semifinals ahead of schedule crushed his last year's offender Ichthyor Nauruzov from Uzbekistan (18: 7) ... In the final, the Russian put a bright point, defeating the 2012 Olympic champion from Azerbaijan Togrul Asgarov in two minutes (11: 0). The ratio of points on the Olympic Games is 53:11.

P.S. Many cried when the great fighter, a wonderful person with a radiant smile, Besik Kudukhov, died. It was a hard blow for all the freestyle wrestling fans. Besik took bronze and silver at the Olympics, but never became an Olympic champion. And what Soslan Ramonov did in Rio is considered by many to be fate. A friend, a fellow countryman, continued the path of the great son of Russia, Ossetia and climbed to the top of Olympus, taking revenge in the final from the offender Besik in London 2012 - Azerbaijani Togrul Askerov. Soslan not only won, but literally in two minutes swept the eminent opponent off the carpet. No wonder Ramonov dedicated this victory to the blessed memory of Besik ... Definitely, Soslan Ramonov is the best freestyle wrestler in Rio 2016.

Ossetian wrestler brought the last gold medal to the Russian national team Exiled Ramonov... The athlete fought in weight up to 65 kilograms with an opponent from Azerbaijan Torgul Askerov... Their fight ended with a score of 11: 0 in favor of the Russian. The 25-year-old wrestler already owns the titles of the champion of Russia in 2014 and 2016, as well as the champion of the world in 2014.

Pupil Anatoly Margieva representing the CSKA club, earlier in the semifinals, beautifully and skillfully defeated the Uzbek athlete Ikhtiyora Navruzova with a score of 18: 7. A year ago, Ramonov lost to him in the USA, but he simply could not afford to lose to Navruzov at the Olympics and not reach the end.

The fans' worries about the fact that in the final Soslan will fight with an athlete who at the last Olympics in London was stronger than our other outstanding athlete, who left untimely Besika Kudukhova were in vain. The fight was won almost in one go. A beautiful passage to the legs and, as a result, a lightning victory - this is the technique and attitude brought to automatism. And Ramonov was helped to bring himself to full combat readiness by his large and friendly family - before going on the carpet, the athlete leafed through the photos with people dear to him on the phone and the team spirit - the Russian national team, for obvious reasons, participated in the Olympic Games in a truncated composition, so each medal was really worth its weight in gold. Today Soslan had a double psychological load: he fought on the last day of the games in Rio de Janeiro and this was the last gold medal that his teammates and all the inhabitants of our country were expecting from him. The new Ossetian Olympian dedicated his victory to his friend Besik Kudukhov.

Ludvik Ramonov, the father of the Olympic champion, the acting head of North Ossetia congratulated his son on the victory Vyacheslav Bitarov... The head of the republic thanked him for bringing up a real champion, of whom the whole republic, the whole country is proud today.

- With interest and excitement I watched the fights of our athlete and felt pride in my native Ossetia and Russia, for our talented people. For Soslan Ramonov, this is a rise to the highest step of the pedestal, and for all our youth, it is an excellent incentive to strive only forward,- said Vyacheslav Bitarov.

His victory turned out to be a great joy and a holiday for the residents of the republic, everyone was once again convinced of the effectiveness and strength of the Ossetian school of free-style wrestling, Soslan Ramonov worthily joined the ranks of the great Ossetian athletes. Both in Tskhinval, where Soslan is from, and in Vladikavkaz, the people organized mass festivities and celebrations, celebrating the victory of their compatriot, who carried the Ossetian flag along with the Russian one in front of the stands in Brazil.

In total, the team of national teams in freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's wrestling brought 9 medals to the Russian treasury - 4 of them were gold.

On the last day of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, 25-year-old native of Tskhinvali, representing Russia, Soslan Ramonov was able to win the gold medal in freestyle wrestling in the category up to 65 kg. The rival of the athlete in the final match was with Azerbaijani Togrul Asgarov.

Literally half an hour before the final bout, the correspondent of "Komsomolskaya Pravda in the North Caucasus" contacted the athlete's coach, who said that they were only in the mood for gold.

It's too early to congratulate, not worth it. Reaching the final is only half the battle. The country needs gold, - said the coach Anatoly Margiev.

And Soslan did his best to have something to congratulate him on.

On one day, Soslan was able to defeat Canadian Haislan Garcia, Cuban Alejandro Valdes, Mongolian Mandakhnaran Ganzorigiin and Ikhtior Navruzov from Uzbekistan.

But when Soslan came to the first training session, he was sent home - too small. Two years later, the boy came to class again. For a long time they did not dare to pair the touching baby who, in addition to the uniform, carried his favorite toys with him, they were afraid that he would get injured. But heredity is not going anywhere - Soslan's dad Ludvik was professionally engaged in wrestling, uncle Stanislav worked as a coach, his older brother went to the section. From a shy boy, Soslan turned into a successful fighter and a real fighter. He was sent to the competition after three days of training. The future champion lost the first fight. But I was not disappointed, I did not give up. He began to take medal after medal, cup after cup. A few weeks before the Rio Olympics, Soslan posted a photo with all his numerous awards and wrote: "One medal is missing, the most important one!" Now Soslan's collection is complete.

According to the athlete's uncle Stanislav Ramonov, on the day of the fights, the bulk of their family was at the wedding.

A large TV was installed in the festive hall and everyone watched the fights together. When the fights began, all 1200 people stood up and prayed for Soslan, - said Stanislav Ramonov.

Soslan fought the final fight incredibly well and quickly. In just two minutes and five seconds, he was able to beat his opponent dry with a score of 11: 0.

The family congratulated the champion immediately after his victory in the final.

We watched the last fight at home with our whole big family. The entire name of the Ramonovs gathered. Now we are already laying huge tables, we will walk and have fun, celebrate and thank God that we have such a son - an Olympic champion, - said Stanislav Ramonov.

The wrestler's coach Anatoly Margiev admitted that he was satisfied with the result of his ward.

I am very proud that my student won. He's a real fellow. It is a pity for those of our guys who could not take the medal - Bilyal Makhova and Anzor Boltukaev. They are very strong athletes, - said Anatoly Khazbievich.

But most of all, the freestyle wrestling team regretted that Besik Kudukhov did not see this victory. The athlete, who was considered the main hope of the struggle, crashed in an accident in 2013.

I have always loved and respected Besik. He helped me in training, analyzed mistakes, advised what to expect from this or that opponent, - said Soslan Ramonov.

After the death of Besik, Ramonov promised that he would devote all his victories to him. So it was this time. Moreover, Soslan's rival in the final was the representative of Azerbaijan Togrulu Asgarov - it was to him that Besik lost in the final of the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
