The better to sheathe the walls inside a wooden house. Finishing a wooden house inside: photos of design options and step-by-step do-it-yourself interior decoration of a house with wood options

Today, the construction of wooden houses, and especially houses from rounded logs and wild logs, is again at the peak of popularity. And even despite the rather high cost and long construction period, such houses can be seen more and more often outside the city. If earlier wooden houses were built practically without any decoration, today, thanks to the development of technologies and the emergence of new materials, the decoration of a log house is becoming the norm. The interior and exterior of the log house is being finished, while everyone decides for himself how the house will look after that. Will the natural appeal of wood be preserved or the logs will be completely hidden under artificial materials.

Features of finishing a log house

Decorating a log house has a number of features, many of which are often overlooked when decorating a log house with your own hands. Such miscalculations can ultimately lead to dampness of the wood and its rotting, the appearance of fungi, mold. To finish the walls of a log house correctly, the following requirements must be met.

Firstly, all finishing work is done after the house has shrunk... In this case, it is necessary to take into account which log the house is from. If made of cylindrical, then its shrinkage will be less due to preliminary drying. For a wild felling, the shrinkage period and force will be greater due to the natural moisture content of the wood. A newly built house is left unfinished for at least a year. During this time, the logs will sit down, and it will be possible to more accurately measure and further install windows, doors, as well as decorate the walls of the log house.

Secondly, it is extremely important when finishing to create the correct heat and vapor barrier. For proper vapor barrier, you must adhere to one simple rule - the vapor transmission capacity of each subsequent finishing layer towards the street should be higher than that of the previous one. The result of violation of this rule will be the appearance of mold, mildew and rotting of logs, and in addition, constant dampness in the house. A thermal insulation layer for the walls of the house may be required only in the case of finishing an old, already a little dilapidated house. A house made of new timber with a diameter of 26 cm has the same thermal conductivity as a house with one and a half meter thick brick walls. It will be better to correctly insulate floors, floors and roofs.

Third, for decorating a log house choose natural materials... Despite the fact that modern building materials have a number of undeniable advantages, it is much better if the decoration of the walls of a log house is made of the same natural materials. The result will surpass any expectations, since natural materials are much better combined with each other than a combination of artificial and natural.

Finally, the following should be noted. Try to preserve and highlight the natural beauty of your home, rather than lining the walls with MDF or drywall sheets. Thus, turning a country house made of natural wood into the same gray apartment as in the city. The option of wall cladding can be justified only in one case, when the house made of wood is old and the tree has darkened and lost its warm natural color.

Interior decoration of a log house

Wooden houses, and especially log houses, due to the natural color of the wood, have a beautiful interior, which is desirable to preserve. Therefore, when planning the interior decoration of a log house, it is necessary to carefully consider every detail. What the interior will be like is discussed and planned at the stage of creating a house project. During the interior decoration, it is enough just to bring everything to life. The finishing of a log house begins after the arrangement of water supply and sewerage.

Ceiling

We start the interior decoration of the house from the ceiling. This is dictated by the fact that during finishing it is possible to stain or damage the surface of walls and floors, and redoing is more difficult than doing it again. Ceiling finishing works are somewhat more difficult in comparison with walls and floors due to the inconvenience of applying and fixing materials. But with a certain skill, everything can be done in the shortest possible time.

The ceiling in a log house is made of beams and planks. It is from this that you will have to build on when finishing it. In a way, this makes the task quite easy. In the space between the beams, you can lay insulation, electrical wiring, and on top of the beams themselves, fix sheets of gypsum board, plywood, sheathe with clapboard or make a stretch ceiling, or simply sand the tree and cover it with transparent varnish. Consider the options for finishing the ceiling, most organically combined with log walls. This is a lining of the ceiling with clapboard, veneer panels and varnishing or painting.

Ceiling clapboard is made quite simply. This is facilitated by the fact that wooden beams are used in the floors of the house, to which the lining will be attached. The lining strips relative to the walls of the room can be installed both diagonally and directly, or by combining these two methods. The strips themselves are fastened with nails or self-tapping screws, which are placed in the sweep in the grooves of the strips. And also with the help of clamps, which is much more convenient. We start creating a ceiling from lining with laying and fixing insulating materials, if any, and laying electrical wiring. Then we proceed to fastening the strips. It should be noted that when installing the lining, it is required to leave a small ventilation gap of 5 mm near the walls. On the first plank, carefully cut the thorn, set it in place and fix it in one of the above ways. We install all subsequent planks with a spike in the groove of the previous one, finish it carefully with a mallet and fix it in place. At the end, we grind the surface and open it with varnish.

They are one of the most expensive finishing options. The ceiling trimmed by them will look impressive, showing by its appearance the wealth and good taste of the owners. Installation of panels is not particularly difficult due to the thorn-groove fastening. In fact, their installation resembles the installation of lining. The difference lies in the need to create a frame to which the panels will be attached, but this is only if there is a need to hide the floor beams. Alternatively, such panels can be placed between the beams.

The most simple and at the same time attractive will look transparent ceiling... Of course, surface preparation will take a lot of effort. Since you will have to carefully grind and varnish every centimeter, but as a result you can always admire the natural beauty of wood. To speed up the grinding process, you will have to use a special tool and several types of sandpaper of different grain sizes. Initially, sanding is carried out with coarse-grained sandpaper, and at the end - with fine-grain paper. This is done in order to first remove the peeled pieces of wood, and at the end to make the surface of the wood smooth, without any roughness.

Important! After sanding, the surface of the wood must be impregnated with protective compounds - fire retardants and antiseptics. This applies not only to the ceiling, but to all parts of the house.

Another unpopular, but at the same time an excellent option for finishing the ceiling is its painting... Only one clarification needs to be made. Paints must have high vapor permeability, that is, "breathe". Therefore, any acrylic, silicone and similar paints cannot be used. The best option would be to use lime and water-based paints, or it can be a simple whitewash.

Walls

The next after finishing the ceiling will be the finishing of the walls. As has been noted more than once, the log house has its own atmosphere and the wall decoration must be approached in a special way. The best option would be grinding and covering the walls with special compounds and caulking with a decorative rope. Simply put, preserving and emphasizing the natural beauty of wood. But in some cases, the log house is covered with plasterboard, MDF, tiles and other similar materials.

Grinding and caulking the walls carried out both inside and outside the house. For grinding, a special tool and several types of sandpaper are used. If you have to do such work yourself for the first time, then it will not be superfluous to practice on the workpiece and then move on to the main work. Then the surface of the wood is treated with special compounds that allow you to preserve the natural color of the wood and protect it from negative factors.

Caulking the joints of the logs is a mandatory type of work, but using decorative materials you can make the walls of the house more attractive. To complete the work, you will need a special tool - a caulk and a hammer. If you have already performed such work when building a house, then decorating with caulking will not cause any special problems. Otherwise, you have to practice a little.

Sheathing a log house with plasterboard, MDF and wall panels are used to hide electrical wiring or create a flat surface for tiles or other cladding material. And also to protect the walls from the logs from the negative effects of moisture. Such a finish is advisable in the kitchen, bathroom or toilet. For living quarters, living rooms, corridors and hallways, it will be better to preserve the natural beauty of the tree, in extreme cases it can be sheathed with clapboard. Before sheathing a log house with sheets of drywall, MDF or wall panels, it is necessary to create a reliable frame to which the sheets will be attached. For these purposes, you can use either wooden slats or a metal profile. The vertical slats of the frame are installed in increments of 600 mm. The transverse planks are placed so that in one row the plank is at the level of 75 cm from the floor, and in the next row it is 75 cm below the ceiling. This is done so that the fixed sheets are staggered. The frame itself is attached at the points of contact with the logs using self-tapping screws. Further work consists in sheathing with sheets, which, if necessary, are trimmed and attached to the frame using self-tapping screws. The final finishing of the walls sheathed in this way can be done with tiles, wallpaper, decorative plaster or otherwise.

Important! When cladding the walls of the house, very often insulation and vapor barrier are placed in the free space. This has dire consequences for log walls. Therefore, it is better to leave an air gap, and lay the vapor barrier layer from the outside.

Separately, it should be highlighted painting the walls... As with the ceiling, you can use natural paints - lime and water-based paints. This will allow the walls of the house to "breathe" and keep them from mold and mildew. The only drawback is that after a while you will have to update the places of paint chips, since the house will sit down for a while.

Floor

The completion of the interior decoration of the log house is the creation of the floor and the installation of the floor covering. For the most part, the floor has already been created. Floor beams, sub-floor and joists were laid at the stage of building the house. It remains only to bring what has been started to the end. The construction of the floor of a log house is known in advance, so there will be no particular difficulties when choosing a floor covering. In such houses, a wooden floor is created on logs, which means that the topcoat can be parquet, solid board, carpet, linoleum, vinyl.

Which of the following will be installed depends on the choice of the owners and the purpose of the premises. In any case, you will have to do some work to create the floor. Firstly, this is the creation of the lower sub-floor, laying the waterproofing layer and insulation in the space between the logs. Secondly, laying the sub-floor boards. And only after that you can start creating the topcoat. If a floor will be solid board, then it can be laid directly on the subfloor boards. The process of flooring itself is carried out as follows. A spike is cut off at the first board, then it is laid against the wall. Several 2.5 cm thick spacers are installed between the wall and the board, which are removed after the floor boards have been laid. We fix the board itself with self-tapping screws in a secret, under which we drill holes in advance. We lay the subsequent boards with a thorn in the groove of the previous one. For reliable fastening, we finish off with a mallet along the entire length and then fix it with a self-tapping screw to the logs. In this case, it is necessary to remember about the 2.5 cm gap between the boards and the wall, in the future it will act as a ventilation hole.

After laying the boards, their surface polished and opened with varnish... We install a plinth around the perimeter of the room.

Parquet laying is somewhat similar to laying a massive board - similarity in the thorn-groove system. The difference is that this work is very painstaking and time-consuming, and an absolutely flat surface is required under the parquet, and the planks themselves can be laid on glue. To create a parquet floor, we first set up a finishing backing made of moisture-resistant plywood over the sub-floor. We lay the plywood sheets apart and fix them with self-tapping screws. Further work will include laying and fixing parquet planks. Finally, the surface is sanded and varnished.

Laying floor coverings such as linoleum and carpet is not particularly difficult. The main thing when creating them is to provide a flat surface. This can be done, as is the case with parquet, using plywood sheets.

The finishing works of the log house, in addition to the interior, include the facade of the building. In this case, the walls and basement are finished. If everything is quite simple with the plinth, you can plaster it, overlay it with clinker tiles or decorative stone. Then the walls of a log house will require a special approach.

The simplest option for such a house is grinding logs, decorative caulk and coating the surface with special compounds that preserve the natural color of the wood and protect the logs. But quite often, especially with old log houses, this is difficult to do. therefore sheathed the log house with siding, clapboard, make a simple curtain facade with metal or plastic panels.

As already noted, in order to keep the logs from rot, fungus and mold, they are treated with special substances. In addition, the rule of vapor barrier must be observed. With the first condition, everything is simple, but the second must be taken into account when sheathing a log house with siding, creating a curtain facade or sheathing with other materials.

Before sheathing a log house with siding, you will have to take care of ventilation and vapor barrier of the walls of the house. To do this, we fill the walls with distance strips that will provide ventilation. We take the strips with a thickness of 10 - 15 mm and install them in 50 cm increments, use self-tapping screws as fasteners. Now, on top of the spacers, we lay a layer of vapor barrier, which we fix with thin wooden slats.

The next stage is wall insulation of a log house... But here we must turn to the performance characteristics of wood, namely thermal conductivity. As a result, it may turn out that the layer of insulation will be completely out of place.

If you decide to insulate the house, then we create a sheathing frame for siding panels, between which we lay insulation, and on top of a wind shield. For the frame, we use wooden blocks equal in thickness to the thickness of the insulation, and using self-tapping screws we fix them on the previously installed strips.

It remains to mount the siding panel in place. We carry out all work from the bottom up. First, we install the initial profile, fix it with nails or self-tapping screws. Further work will be similar to the assembly of the constructor, since the subsequent panels are inserted into the previous one and fixed to the crate. It is necessary to pay special attention to corners, door and window openings. For them, siding of a certain shape is used, and you should remember this during installation.

The interior and exterior decoration of a log house is a matter that must be approached with great care. And the point is not even that some types of finishing work are complicated, but that wood itself is a beautiful finishing material. And the main task when decorating a house from a log is, if possible, to preserve and emphasize the natural beauty of the tree.

The eco-style interior made of wood and other natural materials is undoubtedly one of the most demanded today. This is not only a tribute to fashion, but also the understanding that it is the most healthy and close to nature way of organizing a room.

Sheathing of floors, walls, as well as other elements of the interior space with natural wood finishing materials is designed to make the room attractive, insulate and protect it from excessive moisture.

When finishing with natural wood inside the house, between the crate and the finishing surface, a multilayer structure with heat-insulating and sound-insulating qualities is usually placed.

Benefits of wood trim

Provided it grows in ecologically clean areas, wood is one of the cleanest materials for finishing the interior space of a home.

Coziness and comfort in the house

Wood can be used for any surfaces inside the house and serve as a material for:

  • walls;
  • floor;
  • ceiling;
  • flights of stairs;
  • overlappings;
  • door structures;
  • window frames;
  • decorative elements.

Wood trim is able to create a special healthy microclimate in a dwelling, in which all life processes proceed normally: you sleep well, work, breathe. Unlike artificial materials that emit harmful vapors, wood does not cause headaches, as well as a feeling of chronic fatigue and is able to neutralize the harmful effects of other materials.

Wood reduces dampness in the room, prevents the development of broncho-pulmonary diseases, as well as the appearance of mold and other consequences of excessive moisture.

Choosing a tree for interior decoration

Before you start finishing work, you should decide on the choice of wood species. First you need to decide whether it will be softwood or hardwood. Here, the criterion will be the operating conditions and the requirements for resistance to wear. For rooms with excessive humidity (baths, bathrooms, saunas), coniferous wood should be chosen. Well-ventilated ordinary rooms can be decorated with hardwood (alder, oak, linden).

It is necessary to choose the right material for work

Lining

Clapboard means a collective concept that unites all finishing materials equipped with a locking system. Fastening is carried out by means of a thorn in a groove and can be "in butt" or "overlapped".

The peculiarity of the use of this material is its exceptional ease of installation, which allows you to complete the work on the interior decoration of the house in a short time. Having information about the area and shape of the room that is planned to be sheathed, you can accurately calculate the required amount of lining.

The material has practicality, versatility and high decorative properties, thanks to which it can be perfectly combined with any design direction. Clapboard cladding can be carried out in the vertical and horizontal direction.

Lining with proper care and attitude can last for a very long time. Its popularity only grows over time, not yielding to more modern finishing materials. In its production, carefully dried wood, both smooth and untreated, is used.

Lining advantages:

Practical and versatile material
  • naturalness;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • nice smell;
  • unique appearance;
  • hygroscopicity;
  • ease of installation;
  • availability;
  • durability;
  • thermal insulation and sound insulation.

Disadvantages:

  • the possibility of deformation;
  • sensitivity to temperature extremes;
  • swelling from moisture.

The quality of production of euro lining is strictly controlled at all its stages. For its manufacture, raw materials of the highest grade are used, obtained from coniferous wood, often grown specifically for this purpose. Euro lining is divided into 1-3 classes in terms of quality and meets all accepted European standards.

The material is manufactured in accordance with European standards

This material differs from ordinary lining by precisely calibrated dimensions, as well as by the presence of a special furrow that provides ventilation and moisture removal. This design feature improves durability and prevents deformation and swelling of the cladding when used in a humid environment. Excellent material quality enables assembly with the smallest tolerances. Thanks to this, the result of the work has a high decorative effect.

In industrial conditions, the surface of the lining is covered with a special composition that frees the owners of the house from the need for additional processing with paints and varnishes.

The difference between euro lining and ordinary lining:

  • significantly smoother surface;
  • strict adherence to quality standards;
  • the minimum level of humidity (12% versus 15-28% for the lining);
  • plastic packaging;
  • the presence of a special protective coating;
  • larger spike size;
  • the presence of a groove at the joint;
  • more ventilation grooves.

Floor board

There are two types: solid board and glued. The first option is made from a solid massif, and the other from spliced pieces. In addition, the floor board is divided into grooved (having spikes and grooves) and non-grooved.

Wooden floorboard options

There is a regular board and euro board. The latter is manufactured according to a special technology on the latest equipment from high-quality raw materials in compliance with European standards. Such a board is quite expensive, but it is of high quality. It has a smooth surface, perfect shape, low humidity and is completely free from defects (holes, knots, blue). The massive Euro plank is equipped with ventilation slots to avoid deformation due to load distribution, eliminate the risk of mold fungi, and increase the service life.

Pros and cons of regular solid floorboards

The material is environmentally friendly and easy to install

Benefits:

  • naturalness;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • speed and ease of installation;
  • durability;
  • the beauty of the material;
  • low thermal conductivity, sound insulation;
  • healthy microclimate at home.

Disadvantages:

  • resin pockets are sometimes present;
  • knots that reduce the quality of the board.

Also, one of the most important advantages of such a board is the possibility of its multiple restoration. It can be sanded up to 15 times, which extends its service life to at least 100 years.

To make the floor board last as long as possible, you should choose a suitable substrate and follow simple rules for caring for it.

This material looks very noble in large rooms with good natural light.

Wooden block house

This material is used for interior and exterior decoration of premises. It is practical, convenient, easy to clean, and looks very decorative. All these qualities, as well as the environmental friendliness and affordable price of the material, make it popular among consumers. A high degree of wood drying excludes deformation, premature deterioration and cracking of the material. Treatment with antiseptics and fire retardants prolongs its full use.

For the manufacture of a block house, wood of various species is used, but the most used types are larch and pine.... A block house made of linden, birch or cedar looks very decorative.

Affordable and sustainable material

Various unattractive surfaces, such as concrete or brick, look more than worthy after finishing work using a block house. The feeling of a solid facade is created due to the fact that its individual elements in the corners are joined by special corners.

A block house made of larch wood has a beneficial effect on the nervous, as well as the cardiovascular system and respiratory organs, due to the release of volatile substances - phytoncides - by larch wood. This property completely overcomes the inconvenience when processing this hard, resinous material.

Imitation of a bar will favorably highlight the most comfortable areas

This product is a spectacular material for interior decoration that allows you to change the space of the house without drastic measures.

The material is not subject to deformation

Imitation of a bar is made using a special technology. First, it is dried for 8-12 weeks using special chambers until the moisture almost completely evaporates and the pests are destroyed. Then the finished boards are sorted and cut. Panels made in this way are not subject to deformation, cracking, and also perfectly retain their original shape.

Thanks to the thorn-groove system, it is quite possible to assemble the canvas from individual elements with your own hands without special qualifications.

The cost of the product depends on the class and type of wood. The most popular materials are pine and spruce. They have a low price, and in some technical characteristics they even surpass more expensive species, for example, the same larch.

Imitation of a bar, like all natural wooden products, has a low thermal conductivity and perfectly conserves heat in the room. If necessary, you can make additional thermal insulation of the building using layers of insulation placed between the finishing coating and the wall of the house.

Installation of wooden blocks

The variety of types of finishing materials allows you to create your own unique home design, and the richness of colors will help you to choose it for almost any type of interior.

Interior decoration with wood is an excellent contribution to a healthy lifestyle, an opportunity to surround yourself with elements of an ethnic style created by nature itself.

Having built a house from wood, most likely, you wanted to do something natural and natural in its interior decoration. At the same time, do not forget about the beauty of the interior, which can be created from the most common materials, with certain knowledge.
Decorating the walls of a wooden house from the inside can be a truly exciting experience. In this article we will talk about how you can transform the appearance of your "fortress".

As in all works, this one should also adhere to a certain sequence.
A violation can significantly affect the appearance of the structure:

  • Before starting the installation of any material, it is necessary to pre-process the walls. Remember that wood is a material that resists moisture, mold and insects.
    Plus, assembling a house made of wood will not create perfect protection from cold and drafts.
  • All cracks are clogged with tow or moss, which will create an insulating barrier and reduce heat loss by up to 40%. If you plan to sheathe the walls and ceiling using frame structures, then this will allow you to mount additional layers of hydro, heat and vapor barrier.
  • If there is no frame, then you can perform the insulation treatment using mixtures, mastics and impregnations. Resistance to fungi and insects is achieved in a similar way, using special antiseptic solutions.
  • Such wood processing initially relieves you of the problem of the appearance of rodents, which is very important for a country house.
  • Many materials combine the listed properties at the same time. This saves you the trouble of doing the same work over and over.
  • All of the above measures will increase the service life of your repair, and the house as a whole, and create a favorable climate for its inhabitants.

Finishing materials

There is a great variety of materials on the market today. It will be very difficult for an inexperienced person to understand them, if not impossible.
Therefore, we will try to make the most detailed analysis of all common options:

  • One of the most affordable ways is to decorate the walls of a wooden house with plasterboard. This material enjoys unprecedented popularity today.
    It is unpretentious and easy to handle, strong and flexible at the same time. There are even moisture resistant and fireproof sheets (GKLVO).

  • Another advantage of using this material is that you get perfectly flat walls and ceilings. And all this for a very reasonable price.
    The average price of one square meter of drywall will cost you about 100 rubles (excluding the cost of the frame).
  • You may not have to spend money on a frame, since a wooden house has many wooden beams, or it may even be of a frame type, which will simplify the process of installing drywall as much as possible. In this case, the set of tools required for installation is also reduced.
    All you need is a screwdriver, a hacksaw and a regular utility knife.

  • It is also very important that when creating frames, you have the opportunity to hide all technical units, such as: elements of the heating system; ventilation, electrical wiring; water and sewer pipes; unnecessary floors that do not carry any aesthetic value.
  • Also, the free space under the main skin is well ventilated, which saves you from excess moisture. In addition, you can create niches, build in lighting fixtures, consumer electronics, and even an air conditioner.

Lining and plywood

Decorating the walls of a wooden house with plasterboard is a profitable and uncomplicated business, but there will always be people who will ask: “Where is the natural appearance? Where is the unity with nature?
We built an ordinary city house! "
In this case, natural materials will come to your aid:

  • One of the most common and beautiful options is clapboard wall decoration. Lining is a planed wooden panel with a comb-groove fastening system.
    The standard panel width is 96 mm, the length ranges from 2 to 6 meters.

  • The lining is of several types, differing from each other by the profile of the board, the thickness and width of the working surface. Let's note the most common ones.
  • Standard is a regular board with straight bevels (see photo above). Block house is a wider board made in the form of a rounded bar. Timber imitation - the name speaks for itself.
    This view is also wider than the standard one.
  • All lining is divided into four quality classes: "Extra", "A", "B" and "C". Best to Worst. Also pay attention to the type of wood.
    You can find additional information on the properties of each variety separately on our website.
  • Mounting the lining to a wooden base is also quite simple. From the tools you will need a screwdriver and an electric jigsaw.
    The board is fastened using a secret metal clasp, which is fixed with ordinary wood screws.
  • Decorating walls with plywood in a wooden house is another way to achieve great looks and functionality using materials made from wood.
  • Plywood may not be as environmentally friendly as lining, but its basic properties are not inferior to natural wood. Large areas can be sheathed with this material with ease.
  • The main thing to remember when choosing plywood is the same ubiquitous moisture. If you have not insulated the room from leaks and condensation, then be prepared for the appearance of dark spots and streaks, and over time, the plywood in these places will rot.
    Therefore, approach the issue of decoration wisely. Not only the appearance is important, but also the functionality of the room.

  • Take a look at the image above and you will understand that even a rough plywood finish with seams can complement the overall style and create an original appearance of the room.
  • In this room, all the advantages of timber frame construction are realized. We see many niches (see How to finish a niche in a wall and in a partition), shelving and shelves.
    Built-in lighting visually divides the space into zones, and favorably emphasizes each of them.
  • The far wall is finished with clapboard, and in its center there is a screen canvas for the projector. He himself nestled on a supporting beam, which is also decorated with plywood.
    The floor is sewn up with the same material, but the installation was done more carefully, without obvious seams.

Wooden house construction will always be popular. This is due to the unique properties of the material, both operational and aesthetic. But when doing construction work with your own hands, you need to take into account many nuances that will affect the durability of the walls and the entire building. One of the issues that needs to be resolved will be the interior decoration of a wooden house.

Finishing features

Decorating a wooden house, carried out from the inside with your own hands, should be done only after a thorough study of the technology and methods. It is better to sheathe the walls with materials that allow air to pass through well. You can also use materials that are completely sealed, but in this case, the walls of the house will stop breathing.
The same rule should be taken into account when decorating and insulating. If the wall cladding material does not allow air to pass through, a greenhouse effect is created in the room. In this case, a forced ventilation device is required to ensure a normal microclimate. Such events require additional financial investments.

Also, the interior decoration of a wooden building with your own hands should be made of relatively light materials. In this case, finishing work from the inside will not have a strong effect on the walls and foundations (the load on them will not significantly increase).

When to start

It is possible to finish a log house only after its active shrinkage is completed. If we are talking about an old house, then proceed without fear. If the walls have recently been folded, it is necessary to take into account the material from which they are built:

  • glued laminated timber - after 3-4 months;
  • ordinary timber and logs - at least after 1 year.

The exact rate of completion of shrinkage depends on the climatic conditions of the area. Air humidity and average temperature have a strong influence. It is allowed to start finishing the interior walls from timber and logs only after caulking them. DIY works are performed in two stages:

  • the first caulking of the walls must be carried out a few weeks after the assembly of the walls;
  • the second is done in 6-8 months.

To dig through the walls, you will need to prepare a sealing and heat-insulating material. Jute or tow is used as it. Moss can sometimes be used. It is necessary to carry out work simultaneously from the outside and from the inside. Caulking starts from the bottom. Having insulated the crown on one side, you must immediately go to the other side. Otherwise, the walls may be skewed.

After the completion of the insulation work, the building rises by several centimeters. Over time, the inter-lead material will be compacted, and the height will become the same. It is due to the tight fit of jute or tow to the logs (timber) that drafts are prevented, and thermal insulation indicators increase.

After the second caulking, it is necessary to periodically measure the height of the walls. If within a couple of months the measurement results do not change, the shrinkage process has stopped. In this case, you can start doing the finishing yourself.

Preparatory stage

Before starting work, you need to decide if it makes sense to clad the walls from the inside. If they are folded neatly, and the insulation between the joints does not stick out from the joints, the sheathing is not required. It will be cheaper and better to apply paints and varnishes.

If the walls are uneven, and the caulking seam is not attractive, you should think about finishing. Regardless of what materials are used, it is required to protect the wood from mold and mildew. For this, antiseptic compositions are used.

Flame retardants are used as an additional impregnation, they will increase the material's resistance to fire.

Finishing options

Decorating a wooden house with your own hands can be done in the following ways:

  • clapboard (various shapes);
  • wall panels;
  • drywall.

For all materials, you will need to make a frame along the surface of the walls. It is best made from wood. Anchoring without a frame is also possible. But in this case, it is necessary to carefully align the base and eliminate all protruding elements. It is worth sheathing on the frame for the following reasons:

  • there is no need to level the base;
  • providing a gap for air circulation and drying the walls;
  • the ability to lay thermal insulation material;
  • you can hide the wiring.

The disadvantages of this method include the likelihood that insects or rodents will settle in the gap between the wall and the cladding. In this case, it will be quite difficult to get rid of unwanted guests.

Do-it-yourself wooden house cladding should be done with a small gap between the ceiling. It is necessary for leveling various deformations and shrinkage. The width is taken 2-4 cm. Close the space easily with a ceiling plinth.

Clapboard sheathing

Wall decoration in this case has the most diverse look.

The use of lining with decorative impregnation

You can use material of different widths, from different types of wood. Also, the types of lining are distinguished depending on the transverse profile:

  • standard;
  • blockhouse;
  • softline;
  • landhouse;
  • American;
  • etc..

Do-it-yourself fastening of the finish to the wall surface is performed in several ways:

  • on nails in the face (now it is used less and less due to aesthetic reasons);
  • on nails or screws at an angle;
  • on the clamps.

The last two methods are rather laborious. The fasteners are nailed so that there is no damage to the front surface of the lining. Instead of nails and screws, a construction stapler with staples is also used. In this case, staples with long legs and a narrow back are required. The fixing elements are made of stainless steel.

The lining is made of wood, therefore, just like the wall, it can shrink... It is better to buy kiln-dried material, but if this is not possible, the following points must be taken into account:

  • over time, the natural drying planks dry out, gaps appear between the finishing elements;
  • you can leave the surface as it is;
  • for aesthetic reasons, you can remove the lining and nail it again;
  • during the initial fixing, it is required to take into account that the cladding will have to be removed, it is important to choose what will be more convenient to work with: with nails or self-tapping screws.

When removing material from the base, care must be taken to prevent damage to the walls.

This option allows you to diversify the interior and give a unique appearance to the room. Such types of finishes are very fond of designers, the flight of imagination is practically unlimited.

With the help of wall panels, you can create an accent in the interior

Decorating a wooden house from wall panels with your own hands can be of different types:

  • wooden;
  • bamboo;
  • glass;
  • plastic;
  • leather.

Care must be taken when using glass. Such material is quite massive and can have a strong effect on the supporting structures of a building. It is not recommended to use with a small thickness of wall railing.

Fastening is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. The cladding can be attached either directly to the lathing or to a substrate fixed to the lathing. The methods are quite diverse depending on the material; before buying, it is worth examining the features of each separately. Drywall application

Decorating a wooden house made of plasterboard is common. Wall cladding can be done quite easily, but the following rules must be observed:

  • Drywall is not a durable material. It is quite easy to damage it if it bursts. For this reason, it is recommended to carry out the cladding 2-3 years after construction. In this case, the building must comply with the normal operating mode (heating must be turned on).
  • When installing the cladding within 1-2 years after construction, it is necessary to fasten the drywall to the floating frame. In this way, damage is avoided: the base and trim will move independently of each other.
  • To prevent or slow down the opening of cracks in problem areas, it is required to glue them with a reinforcing mesh. For work, a mesh is taken from a polymer material. The main places of reinforcement: joints, seams and corners.

Old wooden house

When working inside an old building, it is required to first assess the condition of the walls and take a set of protective measures. All suspicious areas on the walls are checked for strength. To do this, you can use a screwdriver, knife or chisel. Areas with the following features are recognized as suspicious:

  • darker than the main surface;
  • lighter than the main surface;
  • different texture;
  • differing density.

If the wood is crumbling, it is recommended to contact a specialist who, depending on the nature and scale of the damage, will prompt the further procedure. Even if there are no defects on the surface, it is required to treat the base with an antiseptic.
