Before starting the implementation of the wooden box project, it is required to collect all the tools and equipment in one place.

We need a machine for processing wood, there must be a jointer and a circular saw. Otherwise, we buy the strips we need in the store - size and thickness. You will not be able to do without a pencil, tape measure, building angle and hammer.

We will use the machine for raw wooden blanks, which we will make from a board of 2.5 x 25 x 150 cm.

Pop instructions for making a wooden box

We take a circular saw and cut it into the wooden elements we need in size, we get cut pieces. First, we cut along the edges, then we put it on a width of 20 cm and cut it completely.

In the process of work, be sure to wear special protective glasses. It is better if you have a good partner holding the boards to be sawn.

Having installed the carriage at an angle of 90 degrees, we cut the board into 5 segments, 4 of which are 20 cm, and another 24 cm.

Set the values of the planer parameters at a height of 1 mm and process each of the blanks from all sides to get rough versions of the board. For finishing work, the height value should be set at 0.5 mm. The thickness of the finished boards should be 2 cm. We will get boards 2 x 20 x 20 cm.

It is not required to polish the workpieces to a shine, the box will be used to store vegetables and fruits. Tool boxes are made according to the same principle.

We cut the remaining blanks to a width of 4.5 cm, taking into account the direction of the fibers. If you want to make the box ventilated, there will be 3 more blanks in stock.

Assembling a wooden box

The whole assembly process is very simple, no tricks or hidden mysteries. We take the most common nails 5 by 0.15 cm. Why thin nails? So that the structure is tightly fastened and the boards do not crack.

First, we nail the upper and lower planks from the end, then place the remaining wooden blanks. From the bottom we screw the strips 24 cm long to the wooden base, use 35 mm self-tapping screws.

You can optimize the space in your cellar with a rack and convenient small drawers. This will allow you not to litter the floor space, and in the smallest underground place the maximum amount of vegetables and pickles. To begin with, put together a rack, purchase dried boards for it, it is best if they are pre-processed with a plane. The ideal rack width is 50-60 cm. First, assemble a rack box, for this, assemble a rectangle of boards, pin a burs in the corners, and also outline the location of the shelves with several horizontal bars. timber 1.5 by 1.5 cm or 2 by 2;
slats;
hammer and nails or screwdriver and self-tapping screws;
saw for adjusting the size of the tree;
carpentry corner.

Depending on the purpose, boxes for vegetables can have different sizes. Most often, high options are made for potatoes with a side size of 80 by 60 cm, a side height from 80 to 100 cm.For carrots and other root crops, boxes are made with a small height - 40-50 cm.

The principle of making boxes:

First, assemble the frame of the future box - for this, cut the bars to the desired size. With dimensions 80 × 60, you will need 4 bars with a length of 80 centimeters, the same amount for 60. You will need 4 more bars with a length equal to the height of the box.
Connect the bars together to get a volumetric frame. Use nails or screws to connect.
Now it remains only to calculate the number of rails with which you have to sew the bottom and 4 sidewalls. They are packed horizontally onto the case, with small ventilation gaps - about 2-3 centimeters. For potatoes, you can make a box with large gaps - about 4-5 centimeters.

Experienced craftsmen recommend first sewing the bottom, and then creating the sidewalls, first long and then short. So you definitely can't go wrong with the size. When cutting and installing slats, be sure to use a building angle. If you often use the box, store tomatoes or fruits with thin skin in it, then you should cover the caps with putty - they will not stick out and interfere with you.

The described model can be taken as the basis for a more complex box that will fit for storing tools, workpieces and other purposes. When sewing the sidewalls, place the boards at a distance of 2-3 mm from each other (this gap is necessary as the tree expands and contracts). For easy storage, such a box should be equipped with a lid. For it, make a rectangle of bars so that it can fit inside the top of the box, for example, make it 77 by 57 cm. Fill the slats on top with a technical gap of 2-3 mm. After completing this stage, you just need to screw the handles to the resulting lid.

Portable container

Putting together a handy box for flowers, pickling cabbage or rooting cuttings is a little more difficult, but the basic principles of work will remain the same. Choose the lumber carefully for making a portable container. You will need to have:

6 boards 15 × 75 × 2 cm;
1 rail 75 x 4.6 x 2 cm;
4 boards 31x15x2 cm;
2 bars 25 × 5 × 3 cm;
3 bars 80 × 3 × 1 cm;
4 bars 30 × 5 × 3 cm.

You will also need to have several types of fasteners:

decorative furniture carnations - 10 pcs .;
nails 60 × 3 - 20 pcs.;
nails - 50 × 2.5 - 28 pcs.

In this case, a piece of covering material or polyethylene can be used as a cover (you need to nail this material only if you will use a container for growing seedlings). The use of this box is usually damp, so be sure to cover all of the lumber (prior to assembly) with an antiseptic.

Make a shield out of two short planks. Assemble it on perpendicular bars, which fill in at a distance of 3 cm from each edge.
Connect the shields with two longitudinal strips so that they form the letter "P". The bars should be facing outward.
Align the structure and loop it with 2 more planks.
Fill in the bottom - its structure consists of 2 boards and a strip located at a distance of 3 mm. Drill drainage holes in the boards every 4-5 cm. If you will pickle cabbage in a container, you do not need to drill holes.
The bars are now positioned vertically - they are the basis for the handles, fill in one horizontal segment in the middle.

The remaining slats are needed to make the cover. One of them must be fixed along with the material on the edge of the box. Wrap the two remaining slats with polyethylene and secure the material with furniture studs. On the one hand, the material will be securely attached to the box, and on the other, there is a load on it, which allows you to stretch the film. Now you just have to fill the soil into the box and start sowing or placing the cuttings.

For the manufacture of the box, we will prepare materials and fasteners:
- wooden plank 5x50x400 mm, pcs - 8;
- wooden plank 5x50x490 mm, pcs - 12;
- wooden block of triangular section 50x50x199 mm, pcs - 4;
- metal construction staples for a stapler ("P" shape, 0.75mm thick, 11.4mm wide, 14mm high).

We start assembling from the side plates.

The side plates, using a staple pistol, are nailed with staples to wooden bars of a triangular cross-section. Nailed planks along the contour should protrude 5 mm beyond the ends of the triangular bars.

We put six boards on the bottom of the box at a distance of 18 mm from each other.

Along the edges of the laid planks, we lay two transverse planks, nail the longitudinal planks to the transverse ones and get the bottom of the box.

We nail the bottom of the box from below to the ends of the triangular bars and to the lower boards along the perimeter.

At a distance of 18 mm from each other, we nail the rest of the boards to the triangular bars.

Our box is ready.

Manufactured boxes stack well with each other and on top of each other. At the same time, an air space is preserved between the boxes, which creates good ventilation for our vegetables and fruits.
