On September 1, 1930 in the town of Lodeynoye Pole, Leningrad Region, the Traction and Operational Technical School of Railway Transport opened its doors to students, which is part of the Educational Combine of the Murmansk Railway. In 1934, the first graduation of 67 specialists of the steam locomotive economy took place.
On May 1, 1935, there was a division of the Educational Combine Art. Lodeynoye Pole at the FZU school and the Lodeynoye Pole Mechanical College. In the first years of the existence of the technical school, the training of specialists was carried out in two specialties - "Locomotive economy" and "Wagon economy".
In 1959, the leadership of the Ministry of Railways and the Oktyabrskaya Railway made a decision to transfer the Lodeynopolsk Technical School of Railway Transport to Petrozavodsk, the capital of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (now the Republic of Karelia). On July 15, 1993, by the instruction of the Ministry of Railways No. 6-554U, the technical school was transformed into a railway transport college.
