Useful things in the garage with your own hands. Do-it-yourself garage accessories: all the most useful. Video homemade machines and fixtures for the home workshop

The garage is the holy of holies for any car enthusiast. Almost every man who is the proud owner of a garage spends perhaps more time in it than at home with his family. Car enthusiasts and masters of their craft use this kind of premises for work, repair of cars or other equipment, the production of furniture or various useful things for the home, as well as just friendly gatherings with friends. To make your garage as comfortable and functional as possible, men are ready for anything. In this article we will give some interesting ideas on how to make it yourself and thereby simplify your leisure time in it.

To get started you need. In order to properly equip the garage and rationally use all of its rather small space, you can use the following garage homemade products:

  • Shelving or stands along the entire length of the wall;
  • Shelves (closed or open type);
  • Tables with cabinets;
  • Overall drawers or shelves for storing large items;
  • Hooks and hooks for hanging objects;
  • Secret drawers or shelves;
  • lockable drawers;
  • Metal frames for storing spare wheels and replacement tires;
  • Steel meshes;
  • Inspection pit for car repair;
  • Cellar or cellar for storage of vegetables and conservation.

And now let's look at how to make some of the listed crafts in the garage with your own hands.

Shelves

Such convenient devices as shelves can, of course, be made of wooden boards and metal fasteners. And you can use the life hacks of other motorists - make shelves for storing nails, screws, bolts and nuts from plastic bottles:

  • If you need open holders for all sorts of small things, then you need to cut the base of a plastic jar or small bottle in half, without touching the threads. Then the thread must be screwed into the lid of the container and the outer side of the lid must be glued or screwed to the wall so that the cut-off part of the bottle looks up. As a result, the remaining part of the container will serve as a kind of holder for various kinds of stuff.
  • The same small parts and materials can be stored in closed plastic containers. To do this, it is only necessary to glue or screw their lids to the shelves from below so that the can is in a vertical position. When you need to take something from the container, it will be enough just to unscrew it from the lid.
  • In general, any home or building material can act as a shelf in the garage. So, for example, a piece of sewer pipe or a cardboard cylinder, mounted on a wall or under the ceiling, can be used as a great place to store long items. And the halves of plastic plates screwed to the wall will serve as convenient pockets for discs for the grinder.

Shelving

In order to store tools, things and various accessories of the owner of the garage, it is advisable to equip it with a large and durable rack. This kind of homemade in the garage can be done in several ways:

  • The most reliable is a rack made of metal and wood. Steel rails provide a solid base and support for wooden shelves. Shelves made of steel will be even stronger and more durable.
  • You can also make a rack with your own hands in the garage completely out of wood. To do this, you need a medium and thick board (19cm). It is necessary to cut supports for the rack from the middle board, and to make shelves from the thick board. It is necessary to fix all the details of the structure with screws, and open its surface with oil varnish.
  • The most budget homemade garage racks can be made from 50x100 timber, 50x25 boards and plywood. The timber in this structure will act as legs, boards - transverse guides, and plywood - shelves.

Attention! It is not necessary to place on a do-it-yourself rack tools and things whose total weight exceeds 500 kg. This kind of useful home-made for the garage is designed to withstand a mass of up to 200 kg.

boxes

One of the "Kulibins" became the author of such an invention as boxes in the form of cut plastic canisters. If you carefully cut off the side wall of the canister and put it on the shelf with the opposite side, then such a container can easily turn into a drawer with a handle.

Frame for storing winter tires and wheels. Such a frame can be equipped with metal corners. The corners must be connected to each other with any metal-roll product. If a suspension frame for wheels is planned, then two triangles must first be built from the corners, which will subsequently be connected by two more corners. The connecting corners will act as wheel holders, so the distance between them should be such that the wheels do not fall into it, but only sag a little. If it was planned to make a standing rack for wheels, then a rectangular frame is simply made from the corners.

Other homemade

Here are a few more homemade things that you can build in the garage with your own hands:

Let's hope that thanks to the photos in the article, useful tips and instructions, you can easily build homemade crafts with your own hands for a garage or other utility room.

For a true car enthusiast, a garage is a second home. And then the first. Therefore, everyone tries to take its arrangement and equipment seriously. The functionality of each square centimeter of area is also very important. This will allow you to work in a spacious room, and tools and spare parts will be stacked and arranged correctly and in perfect order. As for the arrangement in the domestic plan, we will not talk today, but today we will try to save on equipment.

What should be in the garage

In principle, there is no such device that could not be bought. True, not everyone has the opportunity to spend tidy sums on the purchase of Bosch equipment, by the way, it is useful to look through catalogs with Bosch equipment or Intertool, or Interskol. The young but frisky company Johnsway and Ombra, repainted from green to brown, have great experience and opportunities in this regard.

The catalogs contain a sea of excellent working equipment, fixtures and universal pullers, mandrels for all occasions and, of course, tools that are difficult to look at without a stingy male tear. But the cost in the catalogs is unreasonably high, as for a private trader. Service stations, of course, are in more favorable conditions, they earn money with equipment and God himself ordered them to have a better tool. Otherwise, such a master is worthless.

Garage Craftsman Wish List

Still, it’s worth making an approximate list of what should be in the workshop, and choose from it yourself. Here's what everyone would like to see:

  1. Lathe, small, but with a minimum set of functions. Naturally, it will not work completely on your own if you do not have a solid and accurate bed. The price from a Chinese manufacturer will be at least 23-28 thousand rubles. It is dangerous to buy domestic ones - many factories simply assemble equipment from Chinese components.
  2. Drilling machine. Useful when you need to perform precise drilling or minimal milling work. You can make it, and they are inexpensive. A drill stand costs 3,000 rubles if you buy a ready-made one, and a fully functional drill costs 20-30 thousand.
  3. A hydraulic press is an indispensable thing if you have to deal with shrinkage or pressing out of bushings, sleeves, bearings. It is built on the basis of a hydraulic jack.
  4. Emery. Necessary thing. Refuel the tool, sharpen the drill, fit the part to size, sharpen a spatula or knife, a universal device, so it’s better to buy a quality sharpener, which can cost 3-4 thousand, depending on the options. And options can be quite useful. For example, a flexible sleeve for turning a sharpener into a full-fledged drill for grinding or manual milling.
  5. Racks, shelves, boxes for storing tools and accessories.

This should be an approximate set of additional equipment, not counting welding, two or three angle grinders and two or three drills and screwdrivers of different capacities.

Homemade fixtures

An elementary frame for a grinder can become a universal home-made machine. Applications - mass, made from anything, up to a solid wooden frame. it will be useful in cases where it is necessary to process a small part carefully and with two hands, without clamping the part in a vise. Of course, this design has limitations, but as a small grinder or cut-off machine, it will work for five.

We do not indicate the dimensions, the designs and sizes of the grinders are different. The photos show the essence of the device, and it is not difficult to assemble it. It is worth working on fixing the grinder to the frame - so that it is quickly and securely fixed and quickly removed. Such a device is especially valuable for angle grinders with adjustable speed.

As a base, we use a chipboard sheet of suitable size, which is hinged, as in this design, or on latches, you can use a screw mount.

The drawing of a small lathe, which is presented, can be useful to those who occasionally have to deal with turning work, and it makes no sense to buy a desktop one. This project will certainly not satisfy those who need high precision and high spindle speeds, but for minimal turning work it will do. Instead of the spindle from the M10 bolt shown in the drawing, use a finished spindle or drill chuck.

Designed for processing wooden and plastic parts, the diameter of the part is up to 50 mm, and the length is up to 200, but can be revised if necessary. If we take it as a basis, then replacing the wooden base with any metal-roll, we get a kind of desktop machine for turning metal.

Various trifles are often folded in plastic buckets and boxes in the form of a kind of assortment. Therefore, finding the right small tool, drill or nut is quite problematic. For storing small things, jars of mustard, mayonnaise and other products with a metal or plastic lid that is firmly attached to the jar are perfect.

To organize easy access, you will have to sort through everything, separate the cutlets from the flies, the bolts by 10 from the nuts by 6 and sort everything into jars. Covers are screwed to shelves or any horizontal surface, and now it will not be difficult to find the necessary fasteners.

For horizontal storage of loose fasteners, magnetic containers can be used. Convenient thing. Fasteners will not crumble, always in sight, and containers can be arranged as space requires. The main thing is to fix a thin magnetic tape in the right place, and glue large metal washers to the bottom of the containers themselves.

More creative ideas that come to mind inventive craftsmen regarding the organization and storage of tools and fixtures, we have shown in the photo. Use your imagination and reinvent the wheel. And your garage will be the perfect place for a comfortable repair of your favorite car.

When creating, almost any owner strives to do something with his own hands, whether it be shelves for parts, a workbench, a gate, ventilation or heating. We will talk about this in this article, namely, how to create all these same garage homemade products.

Do-it-yourself lifting gates are much better and more efficient than ordinary gates on the wings.

After all, everyone knows how much trouble these doors cause in the winter, when ice accumulates on them, and a lot of snow on the platform outside the gate. All this gives a lot of difficulties when leaving the car from the garage.

Therefore, such homemade products in the garage, such as lifting gates on one leaf, will be very convenient. The gates are equipped with a special device, thanks to which they rise. It is not necessary to apply great efforts when lifting, since the total weight of the gate is compensated by 2 cylindrical springs.

Work is carried out thanks to a system of levers with springs and rollers that open along the guides. It is thanks to this system that the sash is raised. In this case, the compensating springs are turned outward, and the upper one goes inward (rolling back along the guides).

Construction details: gate frame, opening mechanism, lifting leaf. The assembly mechanism is easy and convenient.

The gate box is assembled quite simply with the help of 2 vertical bars and 1 horizontal one. Vertical bars have a length of 2300 mm and a section of 120x80 mm. Horizontal bars have a length of 2750 mm and exactly the same section. They are connected to each other thanks to squares and metal plates. In the opening, the box is fastened with metal pins having a diameter of 10x200 mm. The lower ends of the box posts are deepened by 20 mm into the concrete base.

The sash is made of a plank shield (which is sheathed with sheet steel on the outside), a corner and a frame with ribs. The shield is attached to the frame with furniture bolts with metal strips. The frame is made of rolled steel and has dimensions of 2500 × 2100 mm.

Gate mechanism

When lifting, the upper part of the door moves under the ceiling along the guide rails. The rails consist of steel angles, having a length of 2100 mm and a size of 40 x40 x 4 mm.

The fully fabricated rail is attached at one end to a steel plate for further attachment to the vertically positioned racks of the box. At a distance of 120-150 mm, a section of the channel is attached to the other end of the guides. The guides must be located strictly horizontally. This is achieved by placing a washer between the beam and the channel.

The gate lift is adjusted by means of a spring-tensioned screw. It is important to ensure that the sash is always in a fixed position. The gates are closed with special locks, which are located in the corners of the gate leaf. A handle is provided at the bottom and in the middle, having a height of approximately 20 mm.

In addition to garage doors, garage homemade products are also all kinds of shelves for storing tools. They can be either large, mounted in the far wall of the garage, or small, located on the sides of the room.

Do-it-yourself garage shelves

The simplest and most elementary shelves can be made using cables, which are sold in various hardware stores. They have high strength for hundreds and thousands of kilograms. Sold in a variety of sizes and diameters. Each shelf is held on 4 such cables.

The next detail that is necessary in the manufacture of shelves is a piece of metal or plastic tube. It is necessary to determine the distance between the shelves of the rack. They are fastened with special bushings with a locking bolt. The bolt is screwed into a threaded hole. As a result, the shelf rests on all 4 bushings (on each side).

Such shelves are highly mobile and light, both in terms of weight and in terms of changing the width. You can change the width to whatever you want at any time. However, it is worth remembering that they require good and durable ceilings.

For those shelves that will be attached to the walls, you can use a wire about 4-6 mm thick, which is sold in any store that sells metal in coils or cut. A kind of "herringbone" is made along the width of the interceiling space. Accordingly, two identical "Christmas trees" are needed to mount the shelves. For one side and the other.

It is best to make these Christmas trees at the same time (for greater symmetry). You can use the shelf itself as a template. If you create these Christmas tree pendants with some margin, then in the future it is possible to remove or insert additional shelves. Mounting to the wall is carried out thanks to self-tapping screws, brackets or capercaillie.

Perhaps, at first glance, the fragility of this design may seem, but this is not entirely true. In fact, they are very strong and durable. None of its elements can be changed from such a triangle. The angles and lengths of the sides are quite strong and, moreover, elastic.

Making a workbench

In the garage, in addition to various auto-related work, many also perform locksmith, carpentry and other repair work. That's what a workbench with a vise is for. Of course, it is much easier to use an industrial workbench, but a workbench is also used.

The sizes of workbenches and workbenches can be completely different. The height should correspond and have to the convenience of the work performed. The best height is considered when the worker makes it at the level of the center of the palms of the lowered hand.

Making a workbench with your own hands is quite simple. In this case, smooth boards having a thickness of 4-5 centimeters are used. The boards are connected to each other in width. The main components of the workbench are considered to be a recess with a wedge, an emphasis, holes with pegs.

The emphasis is needed to hold materials during the work performed (planing). It is fixed with screws or nails at some distance from the edge on the left side of the table. It looks like a wooden plank about 10-12 centimeters wide, about 20 centimeters long and about 2 centimeters thick. The boards rest against the emphasis with their ends when planing.

The recess is necessary in order to clamp materials in a vertical position. In this case, all materials are attached thanks to the wedge.

Holes with pegs serve for the necessary stop when planing boards with a planer, cross-cutting material and some other processes. At a certain distance from the rear edge, holes are drilled along the entire length of the workbench. The pegs inserted into them are stops, so it is important that they are of small height. Ideally, for products of different heights, you need to have pegs of different sizes.

Directly the workbench table is mounted on 4 legs, which are connected to each other by bars. After it is covered with drying oil to prevent drying out.

Room heater

Do-it-yourself homemade products for the garage are not only all kinds of fixtures for equipment and repairs. It can also be devices for heating and ventilation. Consider an example of equipping a garage with a special stove, which is essential in the winter season.

It is known how often in winter it is necessary to warm up the transmission, and sometimes the antifreeze (in severe frosts). The situation is greatly facilitated when a special heating stove is used, which consumes not so much fuel and at the same time maintains the engine temperature at the desired level.

The principle of operation of such a stove is based on the flow of chemical processes. Heat is released not due to fuel combustion, but due to the fact that on the surface of the heating element, fuel vapors are oxidized by air oxygen.

Stove scheme

The stove consists of a burner, a fuel tank, a cloth or asbestos wick. A heating element is placed in the burner in the form of two metal meshes and a frame impregnated with a catalyst. The wick supplies fuel from the tank to the burner itself. The upper part of this wick opens evenly under the mesh, and the lower part must be on the bottom of the tank.

When pouring fuel into the tank, care must be taken that it does not spill out into the outer part. Fuel should only be inside for safety reasons. After filling the fuel tank, wipe it thoroughly with a dry cloth.

The heater is started at a distance of 25 meters from the machine. It is ignited according to the following principle. First, 50-100 ml of fuel is poured onto the grid of the heating element. Next, it is lit with a match. After the flame goes out, the fuel vapor is sucked from the tank to the heated surface. In the presence of a catalyst under the action of oxygen, they begin to oxidize. The temperature gradually rises and flameless combustion begins.

Often hot spots spread gradually, with a corresponding increase in temperature. Flameless combustion does not immediately cover the entire working area of the burner. If you do not stop this process, then it will continue until all the fuel runs out.

In order to make the heating element, long-fiber asbestos is used. Within one hour, it is impregnated with a catalyst from a solution of platinum chloride or a cobalt-chromium solution. For 100 g of asbestos, 1000 cubic centimeters of solution are needed. The resulting mass is dried, pulled and calcined. The result is a dark and loose asbestos mixture. It is evenly scattered through wire meshes. And for a burner with an approximate surface of 10 dm², the catalyst consumption is about 300 g.

Rules for operating the heater

Keep oil, dirt and water out of the work surface. Compliance with simple technology in the production of the heating element and proper operation will ensure the operation of the device for many years.

Most car owners spend at least two hours a day caring for their car, and even more on weekends. If we talk about something major, for example, engine repair, then we can talk about several days. For this reason, it is extremely important that the environment in the garage is as comfortable as possible for work.

Arranging a garage is not as easy as it seems, because in addition to spare parts and tools, it usually stores everything that does not fit in the apartment. Moreover, any repair is pollution, which sooner or later turns the garage into a very unattractive place. In a word, even during construction, you need to think about how the garage will look in the future, how best to combine a workshop and a miniature warehouse in it.

First you need to decide on the main tasks. First of all, the garage should always be clean, so you need to use non-staining and easy-to-clean materials for finishing. It is also required to draw up a layout of the location of tools and equipment in advance, that is, determine where the racks, shelves, workbench, etc. will be located.

Stage 1. Interior decoration

In this regard, a number of requirements are imposed on finishing materials. Materials must be:

  • non-combustible;
  • resistant to mechanical damage;
  • able to withstand exposure to aggressive chemical environments;
  • pollution resistant.

Moreover, they should be easy to clean and not absorb odors. Obviously, not all materials have similar qualities. Those that still possess them include plaster, wall paneling and ceramic tiles. Each option has its strengths and weaknesses, let's get acquainted with them.

1. Plaster

Ideal if you want to hide uneven walls. Plaster will effectively hide all existing defects and ennoble the interior of the garage.

Note! The plaster must be covered with a layer of facade paint, otherwise the surface will begin to crack and crumble.

2. Lining

Lining is used mainly in the northern regions of the country, since it is very convenient to place thermal insulation material between it and the profiles. In this case, it is better to use a facade profile, made of polyvinyl chloride - it is fireproof and waterproof.

The only drawback of lining is low strength - after a strong impact, the panels are deformed and need to be changed.

A more laborious and costly option. It requires a preliminary calculation of the strength of the walls, because the tile weighs quite a lot.

At the same time, ceramics do not burn, are easy to clean and are characterized by increased strength. If the garage will be sold in ten years, then it is better to decorate it with ceramics. Expensive, of course, but for a long time.

Stage 2. Observation hole

To repair the machine, it is desirable to equip a viewing hole. Even the smallest breakdown becomes a serious test if it is impossible to reach it without a viewing hole. In such cases, you have to go to the service station and pay a considerable amount for repairs.

In a word, the arrangement of a viewing hole will soon pay off. Below is the sequence of actions.

Step 1. First, the dimensions of the future pit are determined and marking is carried out. At the same time, a balance must be struck - firstly, the pit must be spacious enough, and secondly, its width must be such that there are no problems when entering the garage.

The required width is 0.7 m, it will allow you to feel comfortable during repairs and at the same time leave enough space for parking maneuvers.

Note! When marking, you need to leave a margin of about 20-25 cm for the wall thickness.

With regards to depth, it depends on its own height, but again it is better to make it a little deeper than required - it is much easier to equip additional flooring than to redo the floor when deepening.

Step 2. Upon completion of the markup, you can start earthworks. The most difficult thing is to dig a hole, because more than 9 cubic meters of soil will have to be removed.

Step 3. The floor is leveled and covered with a 25 cm "cushion" of crushed stone. It is noted where the niches for the tools will be located.

Step 4 Walls can be poured with concrete or overlaid with bricks. Concrete is more reliable, so it will be considered.

First, the floor is poured, a thickness of 7-8 cm will be enough. For reliability, you can pre-lay reinforcement. Next, a wooden formwork is being built, which will be gradually filled with mortar in 40 cm tiers. The upper edge is reinforced with a metal structure, lamps are installed.

Note! It is advisable to cover the concrete floor with a wooden ladder, because it will be much more pleasant to work on such a surface.

Stage 3. Shelving

For ease of use, each tool should have its own place. Shelves and racks can be bought ready-made, but they are quite expensive, and they do not always meet the needs of the car owner. Therefore, the rack is better to do it yourself. It seems difficult, but only at first.

Step 1. First, the dimensions are marked. Most "shop" racks are equipped with shelves 1 m wide. This is not enough for spare parts, so the width needs to be made larger.

You also need to leave a gap of at least 20 cm from the floor so that there are no difficulties with cleaning the floor. It is desirable to perforate all shelves - this will give two advantages at once:

Step 2. For the manufacture of the rack, a metal frame is used from a profiled pipe or a 30x30 corner. The parts are welded or bolted together, then the shelves are cut out. Usually, boards are taken for this, but moisture-resistant plywood is the best option - it costs more, but it will last a long time.

Stage 4. Shelves

Like shelving, shelves are best done on your own.

Step 1. First, the number of shelves, their dimensions and installation locations are determined.

Step 2. In accordance with the calculations, everything you need is prepared:

Step 3 Using the mounting level, the attachment points are determined. Next, holes are made, dowels are hammered into them.

Note! For reliable fastening, it is advisable to use dowels with hooks.

Step 4. With a certain step (in accordance with the holes made earlier), suspensions with lugs are fixed on the shelf. They can be nailed with ordinary nails. The assembled shelves are hung on dowels.

It is worth remembering that the hinged shelves should not be too long, otherwise they will break under the weight.

Stage 5. Garage workbench

The most convenient for the garage will be a workbench that combines shelving and a work surface. So the tools will always be at hand, which will significantly reduce the time spent on searching for one or another of them.

For the manufacture of a workbench, a metal frame is assembled, on which a wooden tabletop with shelves is installed. The tabletop is covered with sheet steel so as not to damage the structure during operation.

The workbench must be equipped with several sockets for electrical tools, as well as a fluorescent lamp, equipped with iron brackets for this.

Stage 6. Garage cellar

Often garages are equipped with cellars in which preservation is stored. This moment, as well as a viewing hole, must be thought out in advance.

Step 1. First, the old flooring is removed, after which all the pieces are removed, and the garage is cleared for digging a foundation pit.

Step 2. Next, earthworks are carried out. In this case, special attention should be paid to the type of soil, because if the soil is sandy, then with careless digging, the walls of the room can collapse. That is why it is desirable to use a variety of props made of wood and metal.

If the soil is clayey, then you can not be afraid of anything, because it is able to withstand any load.

Step 3. The bottom is covered with rubble and carefully rammed. Next, fittings are installed, the floor is poured with concrete mortar.

Step 4. The walls are built of bricks.

Step 5. The cellar is covered with a reinforced concrete slab, after which waterproofing is laid - bitumen or roofing material. For insulation, you can use any thermal insulation material.

Note! The cellar can be equipped even if the level of groundwater is high enough. To do this, a metal tank is welded throughout the pit. When the water level rises, the tank will rise, and in summer it will simply lie on the bottom.

Step 6. It remains only to take care of the ventilation of the cellar. To do this, steel pipes (2 pcs.) Are removed above the ground level, preferably on opposite walls of the structure. The supply pipe is located below, and the exhaust pipe, respectively, under the ceiling. Both pipes must be the same diameter.

A few words about ventilation in the garage

Such ventilation, it would seem, is not needed, but without it a lot of dust will accumulate in the garage, which negatively affects not only the body, but also the internal parts of the car. And exhaust gases are harmful to the body.

The simplest and most affordable option is natural ventilation. Two holes are equipped for it (the same as for the cellar). For maximum efficiency, the inlet and outlet pipes must be installed diagonally opposite each other.
