There are many books in the world, and not all of them are well written. However, most authors choose the same eternal theme, which is called love, as the basis of the plot. How many platitudes were written on this score! And every year the number of trivial little books grows exponentially. However, there are authors who bring something new, exciting, completely different from what is today called romance to this concept. Their novels tell about the relationship between a man and a woman, about the love between mother and daughter, about narcissism. Moreover, each story is both unique and painfully familiar.

1. “Young Adam” - Alexander Trokki

"Young Adam" was written by Scottish writer Alexander Trocchi, who can be considered a hipster movement. The novel itself was filmed, with starring Hollywood stars such as Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton starring.

The narrative is not without extremes and sensuality, passions. The book is a thriller novel, deeply pessimistic, describing the history of modern Adam, who not only tastes the forbidden fruits, but also does not pay for it. Instead, others suffer, because we live in modern times, not biblical. He does not need to be afraid of punishment - let others be afraid of her. There will be no happy ending.

2. “Expanding the space of struggle” - Michelle Huelbeck

Michelle Welbeck is the rare case when a popular writer of popular novels can also be a deep writer who carefully studies the topic before taking up the pen. This Frenchman is world famous and worldwide scandalous. His last book, “Submission,” caused a stir in the European community and split it into two irreconcilable sides.

But the earlier Welbeck was no less good. “Expanding the space of struggle” is a novel about sex, about its influence on the mind of a young man and, of course, about love. The main character is easy to try on yourself because of his absolute grayness. He works as a programmer in one of the many computer companies, he is thirty years old, and he makes good money. The book is about an ordinary person in the modern world and the liberal model through which this world passes.

3. "Morel's invention" - Adolfo Boy Casares

Morel's Invention is a book by a Latin American writer, a good friend of Borges, among other things. He doesn't have many books, he wrote reluctantly. But he still created several novels. “Morel's Invention” is a novel that tells of unbridled loneliness, devoid of any meaning. The hero drives himself into a prison, which, although it looks like a paradise island, is still a prison.

He falls in love with the image of a girl whom he sees at the same time on one hill. But he cannot get closer to her - he is afraid. The girl, meanwhile, does not notice him. Perhaps, on purpose, perhaps, he really does not see a groomed man of a savage appearance. Casares shows the internal conflicts of the protagonist and his attempts to get mutual sympathy from the girl, and all this happens against the backdrop of island landscapes.

4. “The story of the body stealer” - Anne Rice

Once upon a time, vampire novels were quite respected genre literature. But it seems that the good vampire books stopped at Anne Rice, who came up with the very story from which they shot The Interview with the Vampire. One of the most colorful characters was the vampire Lestat, who was not central - the character of Brad Pitt drew all attention to himself. And it seemed unfair.

However, not everything is so bad. Lestat de Lioncourt is the protagonist of many other Rice books, including The Story of a Body Thief. The narration is conducted on behalf of the protagonist, as is customary with this author. Lestat at the very beginning of the book falls into a severe depression: he no longer wants to be a vampire. It seems awful to him, but he really wants to become a man, to be alive in the full sense of the word. And, to his happiness, such an opportunity arises. He becomes a man, a mortal man who can have ordinary sex, love, show feelings. But everything goes awry, because being a person is not so simple. Good mysticism, not without humor. The book has sex, lust, and narcissism, and, of course, the essence of man, described from the side.

5. “The Door to December” - Dean Kunz

Dean Kunz is perhaps one of the top ten American horror writers. Critics praise him, and every new book sells faster than bullet speed.

“Door to December”, even if it’s not a film about love between a man and a woman, but this is a film about love for the family. Old feuds are immediately forgotten, the problems that turn to a family therapist, too, when something mysterious threatens the life of the child. There are three main characters in this story: Detective Dan Haldane, courageous mother Laura McCaffee and her nine-year-old daughter Melanie. Of course, there is a fourth character who has nothing to do with humanity - it's just “it”, which is dangerous, which kills and which cannot be negotiated. The Trinity is simply trying to survive, while at the same time cementing family ties. Dean Kunz is actually a very family writer.

Recently, several friends did not think twice about the eternal, namely, about books. We rarely began to read them (and I am no exception). But 20 years ago, the book was a mandatory attribute of a bedside table. And I’m not talking about the centenary past.

An adaptation of the erotic novel " 50 shades of grey»Became one of the most sensational events of this winter. The modern public is clearly "hungry" for shocking and sexual revelation. However, few people know that the best examples of an erotic novel were written back in the Victorian era, and their authors spoke about sex and BDSM much more frankly.

The Ukrainian underground scene of the second half of the 90s is strongly associated with such directions as paganmetal, blackmetal and its radical branch NSBM. Many of the projects that arose in those years exist to this day, having managed to gain popularity by now, but, despite this, retaining a radical message in combination with national flavor. Against the backdrop of such monsters as Nokturnal Mortum, Lucifugum or Dub Buk, you involuntarily forget that it was Ukraine that became the birthplace of one of the most diverse and original collectives of the post-Soviet dark scene. This is a group of "Bumblebees", now based in Moscow.

At the turn of the zero years of the XXI century and the dashing 90s for the fragile ears of a young admirer of the radical underground scene, KTR's collections “Punk Revolution” were a real window to the big world. The Internet at that time was still considered a luxury, and Troitsky and his comrades, taking advantage of the complete lack of understanding of the canon of punk music among the target audience, turned most of the compilation into a musical ideological mess.

It would seem that such a thing could be invented to stand out against the backdrop of this colorful obscurantism - it doesn’t matter, for better or for worse - but even then the project attracted the attention, supplementing the usual punk rock with strict industrial rhythms atypical for this direction, sometimes turning into gloomy semi-acoustics. As for the lyrics, there was no rude protest, no mundane dirty household, no abstract philosophy characteristic of the work of the notorious Az, nor, moreover, politics. Instead, there were gloomy mystical images, in some places interspersed with the directly Letovian surrealism of the late 80s.

Another visiting card of Bumblebees from the very beginning were the features of vocals. Actually, there were two voices in the group, and if you can still find analogues for the male component, which is assigned a secondary role, then Lolie's vocals combine rudeness and at the same time some kind of infernal femininity, causing associations with succubus stuck in the transformation stage.

All this was back in 1999, and the history of the group "Bumblebees" began a year before, in the Ukrainian city of Rivne. This, however, does not mean at all that for the founders Alexander Shmelev and Lolya Zasedateleva this was the first project, but it was just as Bumblebees that they gained recognition and fame.

Contrary to someone’s expectations, the name of the group does not have a mystical connotation or anything like that. Alexander Shmelev had the nickname “Bumblebee” long before the founding of the collective, and after Lolya joined him, the newly made family was simply called “bumblebees”. Session musicians came and went, and this crazy couple remained and remains inseparable.

In Ukraine, the first albums of Bumblebees were recorded. This happened, by the way, at the Kiev studio Moon Records, which released around the same years semi-official editions of rare albums of Civil Defense and Communism on cassettes with no printing. From the very beginning, Bumblebees actively used the keyboard section, but no, no, and typically punk shocking gouging slipped through, and the dirty guitar sound very much resembled the same Letov period of the 80s.

The Moscow stage of the work of Bumblebees began a year later, when their recordings caught the eye of Spider. Hard Rock Corporation not only released their albums, simultaneously including Bumblebee songs in almost all the collections published by the corporation, but also gave Bumblebees an opportunity to express themselves to the Moscow public from the stage.

Collaboration with the Hard Rock Corporation had a double effect for the group. On the one hand, it was Spider who discovered Bumblebees for a much wider audience than when the group was based in Rivne.

On the other hand, Sergey Evgenievich Troitsky had been playing with politics long and tightly for a long time, involving in the process those teams that he took under wing. One way or another, participation in events under the slogan “Skinheads are coming” has created a very definite reputation among the so-called “right” punks for Bumblebees. Despite the fact that in those years, Russian punk culture began to join the overseas at an accelerated pace, so that the exclamations of “Nazi punx, fuck off” to the group flew constantly.

It was in the KTR period that the epoch-making thing “Skinhead Muscovites” was recorded, which became one of the anthems of young fighters for the dominance of the Aryan race, while simultaneously causing tons of hatred among anti-fascist punks. What the musicians themselves thought then, is not known for certain, but now they confidently claim that it was a delicate banter. However, it is enough to listen to this track once, while in your right mind, to believe them.

It is difficult to say how everything would turn out if in 2002 the group had not left the Heavy Rock Corporation in order to begin to conquer the brains and ears of the Russian public on their own. This event was preceded by the release of the first Bumblebee CD called “The Hangover”. At its core, it was a collection that incorporated the best things of the KTR period of the group's existence. The shaved-headed Moskvichiks were not there, but the compilation included tracks that really enriched the repertoire of the collective, the texts of which the group also owes cooperation with Spider. We are talking about things that were originally recorded for the collections of “Songs of the Party Member” to the verses of the scandalous writer Oleg “Gastello” Abramov, such as “Clown” and “Skeletons”. There is not a drop of politics here, but there is lyrics, hopelessness and, of course, horror:

At exactly 5.30 in the morning, Moscow was sleeping in a sticky coma

And the shadow fell when trains entered the earth from the tunnels.

The card is blue, the card is red,

Exactly at 5.30 in the morning the skeletons of the train.

One way or another, the first 5 years of the collective’s existence turned out to be extremely fruitful, since at that time more than 15 releases were released, not counting participation in compilations. The stage following this can be considered to some extent the second birth of the group. The point here is not only and not so much that our couple once again updated the rest of the line-up - yes, now Bumblebee albums began to be released on CDs with labels such as Mystery or Moroz Records, but with the departure of KTR their concert audience has seriously decreased. As a result, a difficult period came in the life of Bumblebee and Les, when Alexander was forced to earn a living as a dishwasher and a loader, and Lyolya traded on the notorious Gorbushka.

Nevertheless, it was in this difficult segment that the work of Bumblebees rapidly evolved. There was no trace of dirty punk themes in both music and lyrics, where the mat almost completely disappeared, and the style in which the Bumblebees began to play was described only as industrial folk. The texts began to pay more attention to feelings and dark aesthetics; we can say that creativity has become more romantic. The demonic essence of a woman, embodied before that only in Lyos's characteristic vocals, is now reflected in a series of songs, which for five years have invariably been included in each of the collective's albums. Having taken the start from the track “Woman Bird”, a folk semi-acoustic ballad from the album “Ice”, it ended with the track “Woman at the wheel” from the “Fuel” record of 2010. Between them were a shadow, a butterfly, a bat, and even a dramaturgy.

Around the same time, the first car appeared in the life of a cheerful couple, and since they were always not fools to travel, the attitude to it was somewhat different than just a tin on wheels. One way or another, at this time a new stable image appeared in their songs, first embodied in the tracks “Naprolom” and “Black Volga”:

You warm me

You warm me

The iron coziness of my car.

I know that it’s not in vain

I know that it’s not in vain

We strive with you to the dream of the summit.

Past cities and faraway lands

Leaving a trace of inflamed wheels, legs

On the bones of love of unhealed wounds

Where the last crossroads in life awaits.

Then the stage image of Bumblebees gets its current gothic-aristocratic appearance. Albums are recorded one at a time, maximum two per year, but their quality is incomparably higher than the first creations of the collective. To a large extent, this was facilitated by the temporary return to the keyboard player Rostislav Shcherbatko, known as Ross and who played as a part of Bumblebees back in 1998. Being a professional pianist, this man made a significant contribution to the high quality of the music performed by the collective, which remained after his final departure.

A new period of creativity of Bumblebees begins in 2009. The crisis that struck a year earlier was not only a blow to the well-being of most citizens of the Russian Federation - in culture and modern art this burning topic has found rich expression. Bumblebees didn’t stand aside, who recorded at the very beginning of 2009 a truly anti-crisis disc “Moscow Pleasure Fair” (abbreviated as МЯУ), which is a caustic mockery of a consumer society that has suffered a severe bummer:

There is a crisis in the world, a crisis in the world ... prosaic revenge!

Business perishes, business perishes ... But there is always money for vodka!

However, this does not mean that all the images in their songs have become so down to earth. There was a place on the disc and gloomy philosophy, and abstract mysticism. The track “Zoya” stands out separately, where, under the synthesized sounds of the organ, Bumblebees set out their version of the once-sensational story about “stone Zoya”, a girl who decided to dance with the icon of St. Nicholas and cruelly paid for it.

The next disc of the collective was released in 2010. The Mechanical Ballerina album was notable for a number of reasons. In terms of topics, he continued the line set at MNU, but the problem of a consumer society that turns people into soulless mannequins is considered much more globally:

Soon there will be no subcultures,

At the moment of the apocalypse, except one.

A subculture called "people",

People, go, go! People, hoi!

The gods drew our eyes

We are not people - we are living masks,

We don’t need not love, not affection,

It would take us longer so that the paint does not wear off

We are china dolls

And don't say anything

Just if you are with us too

Pret? So when!

Most of the things on the record were originally intended for the next side project of Bumblebee and Les under the name U.L.A. I must say that this is not the first attempt by Bumblebees to create a parallel project.

Back in 2001, together with the musicians of the Tetrider group, Bumblebees created the Shreds project, in the framework of which the album “Drawings on the Soul” was released. Later, together with Alan Waters, they recorded in 2003 the disk “Stop Humanity”, which is already being released as part of the “AntiVirus” formation, and the album “Eight Women on the Rainbow” in 2005 in the column “artist” reads: “Bumblebees & Alan Waters. " By the way, on the last of the listed disks for the first time involved a live violin.

There was also the “Button” album of 2006, which was recorded as the solo album of Bumblebee and Les, and here is the only release of U.L.A. Sky Against has never been officially published. Nevertheless, this side project turned out to be the richest in terms of the use of exotic instruments by Bumblebees. From the first things live bagpipes attract attention, evoking associations with the indefatigable Germans of Tanzwut. In addition, the album found the use of a flute, which, however, can hardly surprise a connoisseur of heavy music, seasoned with folk, and even a harp and dombra. The last instrument appeared at Bumblebees after a trip to Kazakhstan and was used to record one of the most noteworthy tracks on the album, called "Ael Aua". The lyrics for the song are inspired by Kazakh legends and traditions, and a very worthy clip was shot on the thing itself.

It must be said that Bumblebee videos have been shot for a long time and regularly. As if in contrast to the teams complaining about how expensive and laborious this is, initially the group used only available means to create a video sequence. Sometimes the clips were created in Flash cartoons or filmed on an amateur camera, then to be included on the first CDs as a free bonus. This approach, in which the group was not afraid to practice and gain experience, paid off, because for several years now any new clip of Bumblebees has always been of interest.

The period "Socialism" and anti-glamor ends at the end of 2010 with the disc "Fuel". At the same time, it became a real hymn to desperate travelers who are not afraid to go “only on signs along a deserted highway” towards adventures.

The “Paranoid Rehabilitation Workshop” that followed in some places returns the listener during the dirty-shocking images typical of the Rivne and KTR periods of the group’s work. After such a reboot, two more discs have been recorded to date - Theater of Freaks (2012) and A Pair of Corpses (2013), but it’s hard to talk about emerging trends at the new stage of creativity. Perhaps the answer to this question will be given by the next albums of Bumblebees, but so far it remains only to wait and build guesses.

Long ago become Moscow, the group "Bumblebees" was and remains atypical for the underground scene, an example of the fact that enthusiasm and creative fecundity do not always go away with age. Both Bumblebee and Les have already exceeded 40, but this crazy couple continues to do what they love and delight their fans with both fresh records and regular live performances, many of which are colorful shows.

In conclusion, it remains only to quote from one of the tracks from the plate “Theater of Freaks”, which, in fact, is a good metaphor for the creative position of this original collective with an unusual history:

People

Forget the years

Die on weekdays

Past concerns.

They laugh and silently melt.

Hyena, dance, hyena, sing!

Siren, kiss your lips in hellish syrup.

Skeletons wake up underground

And the tattoo on the pope will come to life by itself.
