How to stick vinyl sticker

Important!
Before applying the sticker, make sure that the selected surface is clean, dry, free of traces of grease, dust and other contaminants that may interfere with normal adhesion. We strongly recommend degreasing the surface. To do this, you can use a household degreaser or glass cleaner. A soapy solution is also suitable. Just wipe the surface where the decal is applied. Wipe dry after degreasing.
Sticking the sticker should be at a temperature environment not lower than +15 degrees. If the selected surface is car glass, then warm up the car interior and glass.

How does the sticker work?

The sticker consists of three parts:

1. Installation tape. Transparent, has a weak adhesive layer directed down to the sticker. Serves for transferring the decal to the decorated surface, then removed.

2. Vinyl sticker. Placed with a permanent adhesive down to the substrate.

3. Substrate. It is an opaque layer and serves as a protection for the adhesive surface of the sticker.

You will need the following tools to apply the sticker:
Scissors;
Plastic card or small plastic ruler or soft squeegee for smoothing;
Sticky tape or masking tape to fix the sticker.

How to stick the car sticker:

Step 4:
Peel off the masking tape previously applied around the edges, and carefully and slowly begin to peel off the remaining lower part backing (opaque layer) from the inside of the sticker. Gradually pull the backing down, making sure that all the elements of the image remain on the mounting film. Be sure to simultaneously smooth the lower part of the sticker, freed from the backing, from top to bottom to the surface to be decorated with a squeegee or plastic card. If suddenly some fragment of the image has not moved away from the substrate, glue it again to the mounting film, iron it and try again. You can first completely separate the lower part of the backing, not allowing the sticker to come into contact with the surface, and only then smooth it.

Ready! Now the sticker will decorate your interior or car, giving it a unique and original look.

Instructions for applying full color stickers:

Follow steps 1-2 to secure the decal to the surface. Glue the upper part of the sticker to the surface, following step 3. Then remove the masking tape previously pasted around the edges, and carefully begin to separate the remaining lower part of the backing from the inside of the sticker along the way, smoothing the sticker to the decorated surface from the middle to the bottom with a squeegee or plastic card. That's all!

Decal can be applied to uneven surface complex shape, for this, you need to smooth the sticker under the hot air flow of a household hair dryer, so heat shrinkage will occur and the sticker will take the shape of the surface.

Our detailed instructions will help you to stick the sticker correctly on the area to be decorated. Follow the instructions step by step, and you will easily cope with interior decoration.

You will need tools to apply the sticker:

  • Scissors;
  • Squeegee;
  • Pencil;
  • Ruler or tape measure;
  • Masking tape.

  • The surface on which you plan to apply the sticker must be prepared - wipe the area of application with a clean cloth. If there are lint, threads or dust particles left on the surface, it may turn out to be ugly and it will be impossible to correct the situation.

    Apply the decal to the surface with the opaque side (backing) and secure it with small pieces of masking tape. Check if the sticker is evenly placed on the surface. If so, mark with a pencil.

    Before applying the sticker to the surface, place the sticker on a flat surface and smooth the application in all directions with a squeegee. This will improve the adhesion between the applique and the film.

    If your picture is small, then you can remove the backing completely: neatly and slowly. Pull on the backing gradually, making sure that all the elements remain on the mounting film. If any fragment of the image has not moved away from the substrate, glue it again to the mounting tape, iron it and try again. If the sticker is large, then fix the corner on the wall with mounting tape top edge, and then remove the backing. Press the installation tape against the wall as the backing peels off. Large stickers are best glued together.

    Place the sticker on the surface according to the marks you left. Before removing the mounting film from the front side of the sticker, carefully iron all the elements of the image with a squeegee from the middle to the edges. Pay special attention to the small pieces of the applique.

    Start removing the mounting film from the sticker: to do this, remove the masking tape and pull the film down, parallel to the surface (you should not pull on yourself).

    Ready!
    If an element of the picture remains on the mounting tape, do not despair. Just press the film back down to the surface, iron it with a squeegee and try again.

    Tips for applying a large sticker
    If your drawing consists of several large elements, then glue each of the elements separately. The elements must be in contact with each other, therefore upper layer should go to the bottom by 1-2 millimeters.
    A large sticker will be divided into several parts for easy application. All parts are numbered in the order of application to the surface. Begin gluing large parts, then small ones.
    When mounting a large sticker on glass or a similar surface, moisten the decoration area before applying the sticker. Please note - this recommendation applies only to large size stickers. In the case of installing large elements, distortions or bubbles may form. It is much easier to eliminate defects on a wet surface than on a dry one. It is enough to displace the skew with your hands and smooth out the bubbles with a squeegee.
    If you cannot remove bubbles from the sticker surface, pierce the middle with a needle and gently smooth the surface with a squeegee. The wrinkle formed on the sticker surface can be removed using a hair dryer. Heat the part of the sticker where the crease appears with hot air and smooth it with a squeegee from the beginning to the edge of the sticker.
    After the sticker is glued to the surface, do not peel it off or try to reapply it. It won't stick just as well!

    A sticker on the windshield can be not only an element of car decor, but also important information for all road users. For example, it can report that a novice driver is driving, or that there are children in the cabin. The organization's logo will tell you that the car belongs to it. If you can properly attach the sticker, it will long time will adhere firmly to the glass surface.

    What are car stickers?

    The most popular and common type is vinyl. You can buy a sticker with a ready-made image, there is also an opportunity to order the inscription that you need. It will be made using offset printing. The vinyl layer on which the design is applied is located between two others: the upper one, which protects the image, and the lower one, which protects the image. adhesive composition from drying out.

    There are glowing car stickers. They have a special design: miniature LEDs are located between the layers of films. These stickers connect to the power and control units of the machine. You can ask different modes glow. For example, images with the words "busy" or "free" are great for taxi workers.

    The process of pasting stickers on the windshield

    The easiest way is to attach a vinyl sticker to the glass. But when working with any of them, you need to spend preliminary preparation glass. First, it should be thoroughly rinsed, and secondly, wipe dry. To clean the surface, it is recommended to use specially designed auto chemical products.

    Then they look for the optimal location of the sticker and measure the distance from its ends to the boundaries of the windshield using a tape measure. Next, take masking tape and fix the sticker on the four sides in the right place. Now you need to carefully expose one side of the sticker, freeing it from the lower protective one. After one part of the image is attached, it is ironed rubber spatula or with a dry cloth towards the center. Gradually remove the remnants of the protective film and at the same time press the sticker against the glass with a spatula, squeezing the air out from under it.

    When the image is completely fixed on the windshield, it is carefully ironed again with a rag and the upper protective film is removed. Installation of glowing stickers is more complicated, as it provides for the output of wires. But if everything is done in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, then there will be no difficulties in the work.

    Instructions for SMALL stickers !!!
    Step 1. First, check the surface: it must be clean, dry, smooth. To do this, gently wipe the surface to be pasted with a dry, clean cloth. Check that there are no threads or lint left that could damage the adhesive surface stickers. Plastic, glass and metal surfaces before applying the sticker, we recommend washing with detergent and then wipe dry.

    Step 2. Unfold the sticker. A mounting film is glued on top of the applique. Smooth all the elements of the sticker to the mounting film well - the mounting film is intended for transferring the sticker, but not for permanent storage, therefore, let us allow the decoration film to leave the mounting film.

    Step 3. Peel the backing away from the release foil and pull it down. Be careful that all the elements remain on the mounting tape. If some small elements remain on the substrate, they should be pressed immediately against the mounting foil. After removing every 10-15 cm of backing, smooth the sticker to the surface with a squeegee or plastic card, moving from top to bottom. When the backing is completely removed, iron the entire surface of the decal with a squeegee or plastic card. Make sure that there are no air bubbles under the applique. If the bubbles cannot be smoothed out, then they can be pierced with a thin needle and then smoothed out with a squeegee or plastic card.

    Step 4. Carefully start peeling off the film. Pull it to the right or left side, not towards you, making sure that the applique stays on the surface and not on the mounting tape. If unevenness appears on the sticker, they can be pressed to the surface by heating the sticker with a hair dryer.

    Attention!
    Stickers are designed for one-time adhesion.

    Instructions for BIG stickers !!!
    First you need to wash and clean the place where the sticker will be located from chemical contamination.

    1. The temperature in the place where you are going to stick the sticker (indoors or outdoors) must be at least 5 degrees Celsius. Small stickers (for example on the hood), on flat surfaces, can be glued at lower temperatures.

    2. First, decide where you want to stick the vinyl decal. Determine where the top corners of the decal will be so that the decal adheres to the car evenly. It is advisable to mark the points on the car and on the sticker with something waterproof, so that when gluing, you can align the marks and avoid uneven gluing.

    3. Without peeling off any backing, attach the decal to the machine and see how it lays down and fits to the surface. Measure everything so that there are no overlaps later.

    4. Remove the sticker. Separate the bottom protective paper layer from the image with the mounting film.

    5. Pre-treat the entire surface, where the sticker is glued to the machine, and the sticker itself (on the adhesive side) with water from a sprayer. This will make it possible, after you attach the sticker to the car, to move it, adjust the placement and easily expel any air bubbles from under the film. DO NOT WATER THE PAPER BASE OF THE STICKER, OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE PROBLEMS WITH THE REMOVAL OF THE STICKER FROM THE SUBSTRATE!

    6. With the decal on the machine, roll it evenly with a rubber trowel or something with a sharp angle, from the middle to the edges. Make sure that the sticker is not puckered or wrinkled.

    Important! If your surface is uneven, with transitions, do not try to roll the entire sticker at once. Roll the central part of the decal, which runs flat, leaving the edges unrolled. Roll the rest later, from the middle of the sticker to the edges, pulling and heating the sticker with a hairdryer, preventing bubbles and folds from forming.
    Important! When rolling, if a wrinkle has formed, you can gently peel back the rolled part and roll it in again, heat the sticker with a heat gun and smooth out the wrinkle.

    In this example, I will describe 2 main methods for gluing small applique stickers. At the bottom of the page, I will post a video showing all the methods of gluing all types of stickers. In 10 minutes you will learn everything there is to know. I recommend watching the video once to keep up to date. This might be useful to you. So, in the example you see 2 application stickers. One of them is mirrored.

    We will separate the first sticker from the backing and glue it immediately. This method is suitable for small stickers. Pry off the corner of the sticker to grab the mounting film and separate it together with the applique from the backing. The surface to be applied must already be dry and clean.

    The mounting film has a weak adhesive layer so that it can be easily removed from the surface, leaving an application. In this case, such glue is rolled up to remove the application from the substrate. We shoot the whole thing.

    Then we choose a place for gluing and, slightly stretching, we apply it to the surface. The tension is necessary for the sticker to lay down without waves or bubbles. This is the most important point gluing. At this point, you can use water. Usually, large stickers are glued to the water when the surface is not even. With this size, there is no need for water.

    Then press the sticker evenly from the center to the edges. For this, it is convenient to use a squeegee with a felt layer (as in the photo) or plastic card wrapped in cloth. The fabric helps the squeegee to slide and will not damage the top ink layer when applying the printed label. Printed stickers can only be glued with cloth, hard objects will damage the surface.

    On such glass, it is very clearly visible where the sticker has already been glued (gray), and where it has not yet been glued ( White color). While the applique is covered with the mounting sticker, press it down as hard as possible. Then you need to take the film by the corner and start removing it. Do not hurry. Make sure the applique stays on the surface. At low temperatures and high humidity the applique sticks less well and may remain on the mounting layer. In this case, it is necessary to press down the sticker even more and, if possible, warm it up with a hairdryer to 30 - 40 degrees. Press hard again and try to remove mounting layer... It should be easy to remove and not a single edge of the appliqué should follow the mounting layer.

    We glue the next sticker in a different way. Separate only a part of the mounting layer, and bend the edge of the substrate inward. The free edge of the mounting layer will hold the decal. You can peel off other corners or use tape to secure and position the sticker.

    If the sticker is positioned the way we want, separate all other corners (or tape) and start pulling out the backing. At the same time, we roll out the released sticker.

    Pull the entire backing out to the end, evenly pressing the sticker to the surface.

    Smooth and press well. Remove the mounting layer.

    The final look of our stickers. Because one of them is glued from the inside of the glass in a mirror image, it turned out as needed. Why glue the sticker mirrored? That she was inside the cabin and not exposed to any influences. In the photo, the sticker glued from the inside looks whiter, but with this use in a car, the effect is the opposite. The fact is that auto glass has its own transparency and is often slightly tinted. Because of this, the sticker will gray... It will also stick to the heating line and can damage them when removed. We do not recommend gluing stickers from the inside.

    I also recommend watching a video about all types of stickers. I showed on it all the main methods of gluing. We also have instructions for each sticker. Therefore, do not worry - you will definitely glue everything yourself like a pro!)
