Where to start restoring an old house. The main stages of repairing a wooden house Renovation of old walls in a private house

This is how it looked before the renovation ... Wooden rotten frames, closed from the outside with a double film, from the cold and wind ... On the left is an old veranda with a sagging porch canopy ...

For those who have to make repairs in their home, it seems ...

These were the windows and sills.

They began to put the house in order from the foundation.

One by one, we open the corners of the house, remove the rotten logs of the crowns with a chainsaw, put the formwork, put large stones and rubble, lay the reinforcement so that its ends remain open (for later fastening it to the pouring foundation), wrap the log of the crown with roofing paper and fill it with concrete. ready-made curbstone.

And so all four corners of the house and its middle, along the perimeter. In total - 8 pedestals. The process is time-consuming, difficult, but the result is worth it ... When the curbstones were finished, we made a heap around the entire perimeter. The continuation of the outdoor work was postponed until the following summer. And we took up the interior renovation of the house ...

This is a large room and let's start with it. Before the renovation, it looked like this:

This is its right corner ... and this, in the photo below, is the left corner. While writing a thread, I'll stick to these two angles ...

First, all layers of the old wallpaper were completely torn off. The windows were still old, but we were already waiting for the masters to install plastic windows.

The old stove was dismantled ... and the stove-maker put down a new one.

AND THE RESULT DIDN'T MAKE YOURSELF WAIT LONG ... I decided to close one window completely and make one big one - there will be a dining room.

After installing the windows, the men began to dismantle the old floor, level the logs and put brick cabinets under them ...

Then the floors were laid with old boards (they will serve for a very long time, since they are thick and dry), and in places where there were rotten ones, they were replaced with new boards.

I installed a metal-profile frame for the walls and ceiling ... my mistake was that first you need to make the ceiling, and then the walls, and not vice versa. I found the technique for performing these works on the Internet, I will not dwell on it in detail. if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer that I know ...

It is much more difficult to fix the frame on the ceiling, the neck hurts ...

When the metal frame is completely ready, you can sew gypsum boards to it, preferably in a checkerboard pattern, we start from the ceiling! Do not forget to scatter the electrical wiring and hide it in the gafrochannel, behind the profile, and install the distributor boxes in a place convenient for you.

In this photo you can see wooden blocks, I screwed them on for the subsequent fixing of bookshelves. Exactly the same, only thinner, I fix them under the ceiling above the windows (for attaching cornices).

When all the walls and the ceiling are sheathed with gypsum board, we putty and level all the joints between the sheets and the places where the screws are screwed in with such a composition with a spatula ...

At the corners and seams, we lay a reinforced mesh for the strength of the joints, and after everything is dry, we sand it, apply a primer to the walls and ceiling.

And now the most interesting moment is wallpapering. I took vinyl white on the ceiling and with delicate roses on the walls ...

When the wallpaper is dry, I agree

invited a team of craftsmen to finish their work in this room on the windows (slopes and window sills).

After that, I glued the ceiling plinth, hung the shelves on the wall, put my flowers on the windowsills, which the guys from the company had already installed for us ...

The carpenter helped put the interior door, only then I found out that it was standing upside down ... (what a difference!) If only it functioned normally ...

I pasted the doorways with a white corner on a liquid nail. On the right side, the stove is new, heats all the rooms at once.

The firebox itself is in the bathroom ...

I put a substrate on the rough floor, then fiberboard and linoleum. Then she fastened the floor plinths with self-tapping screws and voila, beauty !!!

That's about this big room ...

Some of you wanted to see in more detail about the concrete pedestals, so I added details ... So, the window layer was inserted, the house was sheathed with flat slate from the outside, and a mound was made around the house, until next summer ...

Now let's move on to outdoor work, after the cold winter and spring ... next summer.

When all the pedestals are ready, gradually, opening each side of the house from the blockage, we remove the rotten logs of the lower crown, dry them with waterproofing,

we install the formwork, lay the reinforcement, connecting it to the ends of the reinforcement of the corner pedestals and fill it with concrete ...

We do this together with a man, under my strict guidance ...

DIY roofing installation

After a certain time after laying the roofing material, it will need to be repaired or completely replaced.

How long this will happen depends on the operating conditions of the roof, its durability, as well as the degree of mechanical and other damage.

What kind of roof repair is needed

Roof replacement may involve complete or partial reconstruction of the roof. This depends on what condition the material is in and how badly it is damaged. Sometimes the purpose of such measures is to replace the existing coating with a new one with higher strength characteristics.

For example, instead of conventional slate, bituminous tiles are often installed, which have a higher level of environmental friendliness and improved operational characteristics.

How to repair or completely replace a tile roof

Currently, they are trying to make country houses reliable and capital, because they often live not only in summer, but also in winter. This assumes the use of reliable and high quality materials for roof finishing, with a good durability.

Ceramic tiles are one of the common solutions in this case. Replacing the roof on an old house involves examining the surface of the covering to identify damaged elements.

If any were found, they are changed.

Ceramic tiles have a good level of strength. The lifespan of this material is practically on par with the copper roof.

Individual tiles can be damaged, but not easy to do. It takes a very hard blow with a heavy object to split the tiles in two. In practice, this happens when a tree falls on the roof: it is clear that this does not happen every day.

Sometimes, in a strong wind, individual tiles can fall off the spot: replacing the roofing in this case comes down to installing new elements instead.

Interior decoration of a wooden house

This involves dismantling a small area, with an inspection of the sheathing and rafter structure below.

A complete replacement of the old roof with a new one is carried out only if there is significant damage to the roofing system.

After the restoration work, the removed shingles can be put back if they have retained their integrity. This completes the replacement of the roof on the old house with your own hands.

Replacing corrugated roofing in an old house

Profiled sheets equipped with polymer protection are able to effectively withstand various aggressive influences.

They can be damaged under the following circumstances:

  • In case of strong impacts, when heavy objects (large branches or tree trunks) fall onto the roof.
  • Due to improper styling.
  • If it is allowed to walk over the surface of the roofing sheets without following proper maintenance guidelines.

The consequence of such influences on profiled sheets is the appearance of dents, holes, damage to the protective layer on them, which provokes the occurrence of corrosion.

In such cases, it is necessary to replace the roof, replacing the damaged sheets with new ones.

The first step is to audit the nature of the damage. This will make it possible to determine how to replace the roof on the house, to see the scale of the necessary repairs: will it be a local replacement of damaged sections of the roof, or its complete reconstruction. If it is necessary to carry out capital work to completely replace the roofing, you need to carefully inspect the entire rafter structure, thermal insulation and waterproofing.

The fact is that these systems are often also damaged during breakouts in the profiled sheet.

Next, it is determined what exactly the dacha will be covered with after dismantling the worn out lining. Often, instead of profiled sheets, metal tiles are laid, which is distinguished by external attractiveness, low cost and ease of installation. It will be necessary to calculate the selected coating and prepare the rafter structure for its installation.

Changing soft tiles to steel sheets

Asphalt shingles are characterized by good strength, so it is not easy to damage their surface. However, after the expiration date, it will need to be replaced. In cases where there is a desire to make the new roof more rigid and durable, profile steel sheets are used.

Replacing the old roof in this case has the following procedure:

  1. Revision of the roof of a country house.

It is important to determine if it can support the weight of the new material or if it needs to be changed as well.

  2. The same procedure is carried out in relation to the supporting structures and the battens on which the shingles were laid.
  3. Checking the diagonal measurements of the old roof. Sometimes it is necessary to repair the truss structure.
  4. Determination of the scale of the necessary repairs.

This will make it possible to calculate the required material for replacing the roof of the roof.

DIY roofing installation

Sometimes, when the old roofing is well preserved, it is used as a substrate for new installation.

For this, wooden slats are mounted above the surface of the soft tiles, opposite the rafters. They will serve as the basis for a new lathing for metal sheets. The metal profile is laid with an overlap, with movement from the lower edge of the roof. The presence of additional elements is required - a profile seal, strips, valleys, gutters.

Replacing an old roof with a new one is not an easy task, although outwardly everything looks very simple. It is imperative that you first give a correct assessment of the condition of the old roof and rafter system.

This will make it possible to accurately determine the scope of reconstruction work and the procedure for their implementation.

Our site will help you make repairs in the house with your own hands of any complexity. Bring your wildest ideas to life or take interesting and creative ideas on our website. Here you can find a lot of useful information about construction, finishing, various works on the site and design.

Usually, repairs start unexpectedly. Moreover, both for us and for our wallet. Therefore, we often strive to save money and make repairs in the house ourselves.

At the same time, there is no need to pay workers or any firms for the work done. In addition, it is much more pleasant to do everything yourself in your beloved house or apartment. As they say, put your soul into making your home beautiful, warm and cozy.

It is very good if the renovation is carefully planned. But it happens that some kind of breakdown in the house can serve as its beginning.

Or maybe just a good mood. It happens! A spontaneous decision leads to intense work over the course of several months. But it's worth it, isn't it?

Not everyone is able to make repairs on their own in their home and not everyone can do it. This has its advantages and disadvantages. Firstly, there is an opportunity to be creative, to decorate the interior in your home to your taste and color. Make it the way you "see" it yourself. At the same time, you can brag to your friends how you did everything well and beautifully.

Secondly, you can choose the necessary building materials yourself.

Hired workers usually do not care what to buy and for how much. Or, even worse - they can earn money on you by winding up the price of building materials.

If the balance "price - quality" is correctly observed, then this can be a good additional saving.

On the other hand, you will have to set aside enough free time to renovate your house or apartment so that it does not take too long. This is often the biggest problem. As popular wisdom says: “The repair cannot be completed. It can only be temporarily suspended. "

You can devote a couple of hours every day after work. But it would be more practical to take a vacation to devote himself entirely to the repair work.

Besides, there are some things you need to be able to do. If you don't have experience yet, a constructive plan to improve your home and a positive attitude can turn into a headache and cause a lot of problems.

To prevent this from happening, the simplest thing is to invite an experienced person to help you. If you do not have such a person, then you will have to make repairs in the house yourself. Start by planning the activities your home needs to keep it cozy and comfortable. In it, in detail, point by point, write down what exactly you want to do, indicating the time for which you want to do it, as well as what you need to buy for each operation.

After making your plan, look in books or on the Internet for what to do at any given stage.

Indeed, in this matter, there are many nuances that you need to know. Otherwise, it will not work to make high-quality repairs with your own hands.

We create an original interior of a house in a village

You may not get exactly what you wanted, or, even worse, you will have to redo everything.

Repair can be roughly divided into two types: cosmetic and major. It is advisable to carry out cosmetic repairs in the apartment at least once every two years. It includes surface work that does not require large capital investments. Sometimes it is enough to simply re-glue the wallpaper, or repaint the walls, update panels, change tiles, etc.

It is advisable to carry out major repairs in the house every 8-10 years.

More serious events are held here. Such as replacing the flooring, changing the heating system, electrical wiring, eliminating defects on the walls, replacing plumbing, etc.

Good luck to you!

How to make an inexpensive renovation: a few secrets

Repair is a difficult, long, and most importantly, costly business, which is often the reason for our indecision in actions. How to make inexpensive repairs yourself in a country house?

We have been saving up money for several years in order to finally start repairing the cottage.

And what if your home is in a terrible state, and you simply do not have the strength to live in such conditions, and you have not yet accumulated a sufficient amount?

In fact, there is an alternative option, and you can make repairs, practically without wasting your budget, which will be discussed in our article.

Introductory points: professional help is needed here

It will be hard to save only at the stage of laying electrical wiring, especially if it is old or weak.

In this case, you need to call the DEZ electrician. Wiring is something that you should not save your budget on, however, you can handle the installation of sockets on your own.

When, what and where to get everything you need

Let's try to figure out how to make an inexpensive renovation in an apartment. Let's start with what tools

You should better use when repairing.

The easiest way is to rent the necessary tools, as it will be expensive and problematic to buy. If rented, the costs will be small.

When is it worth repairing? Autumn is considered the best time for renovation. Preferably the beginning or the middle of the wonderful time of the year. Why very much?

At this time, the weather is still warm, but not very hot, if necessary, you can safely open the windows.

And before winter, as a rule, prices for building materials fall, thus you also save on repairs due to discounts.

Sales are held in the construction market, allowing you to pay less for finishing materials. The fact is that such discounts appear, since materials have a certain expiration date.

When it almost reaches its limit, sellers give discounts on them to sell them before it's too late. You win, because before the expiration date you will have time to use the necessary material, and this will also benefit the seller.

Replacement and trash

Now let's talk about plumbing.

If your plumbing is still suitable for use and looks decent, then you can just clean it well, and then start painting. However, no one is safe from cracks and holes.

In this case, the plumbing must be updated. For such cases, there is a great way - to negotiate with landfill garbage collectors.

Do not be alarmed, you are not forced to take used plumbing. The fact is that often when entering expensive houses, people with money start major repairs and simply throw out new cast-iron or faience plumbing fixtures.

The landfill workers clean them well, send them to the warehouse, where you choose them, buying them twice (or maybe more) cheaper than the factory price.

The main thing is to come in person, and not try to negotiate by phone.

As for construction waste, in this case, the actual issue of its removal remains. This is quite an expensive pleasure.

To save money, you can buy used plastic sackcloth bags that cost a pittance.

Collect garbage and store it in basements, summer cottages, closets of your country house, after the repair is completed, take it out in a bucket to the nearest container or landfill.

Construction waste does not rot and can lie in bags for a long time.

Do it yourself

You will have to do various ancillary work, sew up, deal with lathing.

For such work, you need plywood and slats. There is waste (slab) after sawing wood that can be used instead of planed battens.

They are sold raw, so it is better to buy this croaker in early spring and dry it well until autumn, while the quality will not differ much from planed slats.

And now we offer you a lesson on how you can make waterproof plywood from waste packaging plywood from used containers.

Buy 2 PVA fillers (cheap). Then, in the premises of a country house, in which no one lives, spread a plastic film on the floor. In this case, there must be a certain temperature (at least 13 degrees).

We put a plywood sheet on the floor, pour a little putty into the center and smear it with a brush.

We put plastic on top of the plywood, then put a new sheet and putty in the same way, and so on. On top of a pile of plywood, which has been impregnated with PVA, it is necessary to put a heavier oppression, which we disperse over the area (something heavy, for example, a brick, an old piece of metal, etc.).

After 1 week, you need to do the same, turning each sheet over.

After another 2 weeks, you can already use flat waterproof plywood.

Successful coverage

To save money, it is beneficial to sheathe the walls and ceiling with laminate. More profitable for your budget will be the option of wall cladding to the waist, and glue the rest of the wall with non-woven wallpaper.

To save money when covering the floor, it is better to use marmoleum.

The interior of a private house before and after - 40 photo rooms

However, it should not be placed on floors in bathrooms and toilets. In this case, you need a tile. And the walls can be covered with laminate.

  • Which doors and windows are cheaper?

It is better to buy window frames in early spring during discounts and install in early summer so that the wood dries well. Install the windows yourself, the technology is simple even for a beginner.

But it is better to install the doors for an already experienced master.

Take the plywood made by you, about which we wrote above, and sheathe the two facades of the door with it, using assembly glue. Remove the door from its hinges, put it on a plastic mat - and under oppression.

Another topical issue in an economical repair option is design. You need to know what kind after renovation your country house will acquire.

Consult with relatives and friends, view photos in magazines or on the Internet of ready-made cottage designs.

Professionals, as a rule, are invited so that he can guess your desires, understand your tastes and be able to give practical advice, but this is no longer advice on how to make inexpensive repairs yourself.

For everyone, the ideal design is different. You need to decide for yourself what

You really want and what you think is comfortable for your stay. Sit down and calmly, slowly, but thoughtfully make the right decision for you.

The main / Exterior decoration / Repair of the external walls of an old house

Repairing a wooden house with your own hands is a fairly simple task, after completing which you will get a small oasis that hides you from the bustle of the city. Sounds tempting? then let's get started.

And to help such enthusiasts, we wrote this article, which reveals some of the nuances and gives advice on how to make a major overhaul of a wooden house.

The advantages of a wooden house

Let's start by identifying a number of advantages:

  • durability;
  • beautiful appearance;
  • good heat saving characteristics;
  • excellent ventilation;
  • maintaining constant humidity inside the house.

In addition, the materials used in the construction of such a house are natural and economical.

Reasons for the repair

  • Change of rotten log crowns.
  • Cracks that went horizontally along the main logs.
  • Required, which are located under the window openings.
  • Replacement of clearly damaged rafters.

Reconstruction of walls

Quite often, the replacement of logs is required, which perform the functions of the lower crown, floor beams and floor. When replacing the logs of the crown, the house does not have to be lifted, you can limit yourself to disassembling the top.

The procedure without disassembling the foundation will require lifting the house on jacks.

Note! It is not recommended to raise the house too high; this should be done gradually in several steps. In doing so, we advise you to remove the window and door frames. Figure 1 shows how to position the crown logs correctly.

Figure 1. Arrangement of the crowns

  • 1) the first log of the crown;
  • 2) the second log of the crown;
  • 3–8) logs of the crowns of privates.

The diagram clearly shows that the first log should be located in the masonry adjacent to the foundation in almost half the diameter, the second log should be also or slightly smaller. The ends of these logs should not be in the masonry, otherwise they may start to rot.

The walls that are under the windows can be changed in two ways: the usual or with the setting of racks. The scheme for laying logs under the windows in the usual way is shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2. Scheme of replacing logs under the window in the usual way

Figure 3 shows a diagram of replacing logs under a window using racks. The racks connect the ends of the logs that have already become old. New parts of the logs are inserted, and it is advised to caulk the dilapidated places. After that, you can assemble the box.

Figure 3. Scheme of replacing logs under a window using stanchions

If you need to replace several crowns, you need to hang out part of the house. How to do this is shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4. Using struts and clamping when hanging a wall

  1. washer;
  2. bolt;
  3. squeeze;
  4. brace;
  5. bracket.

You can lower the house using levers or wedges.

Kitchen arrangement

Kitchen interier

The kitchen is an integral part of the house, requiring a special approach to reconstruction.

As a rule, a kitchen has two parts: a dining room and a working one. They can be connected to each other or be in different rooms.

Finishing

Renovation of a kitchen in a wooden house begins with finishing. For this, materials are selected that are suitable in color and texture to the design conceived in advance.

The ceilings can be painted or stretched, or they can even be decorated in country style by equipping them with decorative beams. It is better to leave the walls wooden and varnished.

A question of style

Such a house allows you to create a special style, this applies not only to furniture, but also to individual decorative elements.

Bathroom decoration

The bathroom floor must have good waterproofing. Floor tiles are considered the ideal coating. It can be laid out on a concrete screed or drywall.

Let's note the moment of waterproofing in the bathroom. It will not be able to fully function without high-quality waterproofing of the foundation. Bathroom waterproofing is carried out in a comprehensive manner and protects all surfaces of the room.

Ceiling decoration

In the photo, the restoration of the ceiling

Not only the most popular, but also a very beautiful material for finishing the ceiling is wood. This finish is natural, fits into the interior and creates its own special atmosphere in which harmony is felt.

New timber housing, hand-built from scratch - what more could you ask for? Unfortunately, many can only dream of such an option. Not everyone has such an opportunity: a high-quality tree has an appropriate cost, and there are no building skills.

Buying an old wooden house or a country house for many turns out to be much easier - this is a completely affordable option.

And as an inheritance from relatives, people often get old huts, often in a very neglected and even uninhabited state. Before you start using it, such housing must be put in order. It should be noted that often quite suitable wood is found under the old coating - although not new, but quite high quality. They knew how to build before.

Restoration of a country house

First of all, a thorough inspection of the house is required. It is advisable to start with it. If you immediately proceed directly to the restoration of the old village house, and later it turns out that problems with the foundation of the house interfere with its full use, then the work done will be in vain. If, during the examination, serious deficiencies are found in (partial destruction, overlapping corners, dampness,), then they must be eliminated.

This procedure cannot be carried out without jacks. With these devices, with great care, they are raised to a comfortable height. The base itself is getting better, insulated or filled in again - this is how the restoration of the foundation is carried out. Such manipulations are considered quite dangerous, so insurers and observers are needed for it.

Then the old log house returns to its place, and a new stage begins - its grinding. This will require a special machine equipped with attachments. With its help, it will be possible to process the most inaccessible areas. Hands and a simple emery cloth will not be enough for this manipulation. Grinding is carried out until a layer with a light color appears.

And the machine is universal: changing the attachment elements will allow you to use it not only for grinding, but also for sealing all kinds of defects, cracks and cracks.

Large defects located along the length of the crowns are repaired even before that. They are sealed with a mixture of sawdust and sawdust: the damaged areas are rubbed with a pre-prepared composition.

Instead of asbestos, you can take wood glue, or ordinary stucco. But such formulations are suitable for correcting minor flaws. If the defects are too large, and there are many of them, a log house will be needed. Otherwise, the inevitable dampness in the cracks will cause damage and rotting of the tree. The wood must be treated with all kinds of protective equipment.

Before and after the restoration of houses

The procedure is carried out before the caulking is started. It is advisable to process sealing materials with them. All seams between the logs are freed from the worn, crumbling seal, for which it is convenient to use a regular vacuum cleaner. After all, the old log cabins are conscientiously lawn. Instead of worn-out tow, a new, modern sealing material is selected.

The final stage of all work carried out- final.

Ignorant citizens are sure that this procedure consists in a simple application of a decorative coloring composition to the wood. This seems to be so, but in this case, not quite.

This means the application of different means - tinting, varnish, azure. The listed coatings do not hide the charming texture of natural wood.

But if the facade of the house is really old and dilapidated, then it will have to be revetted or covered with opaque paint, one way or another.

It is important to remember that the ends of the logs should not undergo any protective or decorative treatment. There are a kind of capillaries of the tree, with the help of which it "breathes". The processing process will seal them, the normal air circulation will be disrupted, and the log or timber will undergo a decay process.

As you can see, the restoration or reconstruction of a wooden house is not an overly complicated process. It’s not that hard work, and besides, it’s clearly creative. Here you can give free rein to imagination and fantasy, trying to improve and refine the old home. What would seem risky for the decoration of a new house can be safely used to restore the old one.

Ancient buildings: features of restoration

Cases of putting in order houses of high architectural value, or being monuments of antiquity, are not uncommon. Sometimes the restoration of private merchant houses and mansions is carried out. In such cases, a particularly careful and careful approach is required.

To complicate matters, such a building cannot be decorated with other modern materials. All work is carried out with care, because any negligence can cause irreversible consequences.

Over-sanding, for example, can thin out or ruin a unique wood pattern.

What specific features characterize the measures for the restoration of the old house:

  • The global restoration of an old house should be measured and consistent. There is no rush here. Construction materials and the necessary tools must be selected with great care;
  • Individual parts and elements, for example, elaborate columns or lace trims, can be ordered from professional craftsmen;
  • When restoring a house, it is good to be guided by old photos of the house being renovated. Maybe you can find the pictures you need from the old owners or in the family archives. If you wish, you can reproduce the building in its original appearance.

Otherwise, the transformation of an old log house is similar to the repair of an ordinary one. Logs and compactors must also be processed. Perhaps they need even more protective substances than simple dwellings.

Before and after restoration

Home restoration price

The cost of restoring a private house is made up of various factors. This is both the season and the remoteness of the building from the city limits. After all, if you hire craftsmen for work, then they need to somehow get to the workplace. In the cold season, this is more difficult to do.

A significant role in the cost of the restoration of a suburban building is played by its size, living area and the degree of neglect.

If the house stood for a long time without tenants and unattended, then the premises inside and the outer facade could come into complete disrepair. The craftsmen will have to make a lot of effort to return the building to a decent look and all the qualities necessary for a home.

The scale of the proposed work also affects the final cost of the restoration.

After all, it is one thing to repair individual elements of a small building, and quite another to overhaul with the reconstruction of a large two-story dwelling. Of course, minor restoration work will cost a lot less.

Any house, even the highest quality one, over time loses a fair amount of its attractiveness. Various defects may appear on its surface, which are perfectly visible to the naked eye. Individual elements of the structure wear out and can collapse, ceasing to fulfill their function, and look unsightly.

It is better not to wait for the moment when the home becomes completely unusable. Then it will be much more difficult and costly to repair it.

I never thought that I would renovate an old wooden house. And that I will like it. After all, the old house has one, but a very good plus, sedimentary processes in it are completed.
It so happened that the repairs had to be done in the winter, when at night it reached minus 35.
House of 1951, of 24 logs, in the eighties they already made repairs and plastered the walls from the inside. Good thing with the lime. This kept the log from rotting. But, great jarred, the difference between the lower and upper points on one wall is up to 25 centimeters. The walls are curved and concave. The drop on the ceiling is up to 35 centimeters. Instead of insulation, there is debris and old foliage on the roof. The floors are rotten, with cracks in the subfloor. The stoves, laid on the edge of the brick, are in disrepair.

Four months, four of us were renovating. We sorted out and insulated the floors, laying them on new logs, pulled the walls with new ceiling mats, arranged an internal frame in each room made of aged logs, built a bathroom out of nothing, etc., etc.

It was

And so it became
