But Zabolotsky is an ugly girl. The lyrics are an ugly girl. The trough in which Romulus and Remus floated and the millstone on which Christ floated the Gospel miracle of "walking of Christ by the sea"

Nikolay Zabolotsky

UGLY GIRL (1955)

Among other children playing
She resembles a frog.
The thin shirt is tucked into underpants
Rings reddish curls
They are scattered, the mouth is long, the teeth are crooked,
Facial features are sharp and ugly.
To two little boys, her peers,
Fathers bought a bike.
Today the boys are in no hurry for dinner
They drive around the yard, forgetting about it,
She follows them on the trail.
Someone else's joy is just like your own,
It torments her and breaks out of her heart,
And the girl rejoices and laughs
Embraced by the happiness of being.

No shadow of envy, no intention of evil
Doesn't know this creature yet.
Everything is so immensely new to her,
So everything that is dead is alive for others!
And I don’t want to think, watching
What will be the day when she sobbing
He will see with horror that among friends
She's just a poor little fool!
I want to believe that the heart is not a toy,
It’s hardly possible to break it suddenly!
I want to believe that this flame is pure,
Which burns deep inside her
All alone will hurt his pain
And he will melt the heaviest stone!
And may her traits be bad
And she has nothing to seduce the imagination -
Infant Grace of the Soul
Already shines in any of its movement.
And if so, then what is beauty
And why do people deify her?
A vessel in which there is emptiness
Or a fire flickering in a vessel?

UGLY GIRL (1955)

Among the other playing children
It resembles a frog.
Dressed in shorts, thin shirt,
Ringlets of reddish curls
Scattered, long, mouth, teeth crooked,
Facial features are sharp and ugly.
Two little boys, her peers,
Fathers bought the bike.
Today boys, not hurrying to lunch,
Chase around the yard, forgetting about it,
She "s running around behind them on the trail.
Someone else "s joy as your own,
Afflict it and get out of my heart torn,
And the girl rejoices and laughs
Jubilation of life.

No shadow of envy or malice thin
Does not know this creature.
Her everything so immeasurably new,
So vividly all that other dead!
And I don "t want to think while watching
That will be a day when she, sobbing,
Will see with horror that in the midst of friends
She "s just a poor and ugly!
I would like to believe that the heart is not a toy
To break it is hardly possible suddenly!
I would like to believe that this pure flame,
In the depths of her burning,
All the pain you overcome your one
And protopic the grave stone!
And let her bad traits
And there is nothing to entice her imagination, -
Infant grace in the soul
Already present in any movement.
And if so, what is beauty
And why idolize her people?
A vessel she, in which emptiness,
Or fire flickering in a vessel?

What is emptiness? From the household point of view, there is no problem in determining the void. We always easily see if the room is empty, whether the dishes are empty. An empty place is where there is nothing. Moreover, it was often understood as a place where there is nothing important, significant. For instance,

N. A. Zabolotsky "Ugly Girl"

The poem was created by N. Zabolotsky in 1955. Conventionally, we can distinguish the descriptive part and reasoning in it. First, we, together with the lyrical hero, observe the domestic scene taking place in the courtyard. Two boys on new bicycles ride around the yard, forgetting about their ugly peer, who runs after them everywhere. The description of the girl’s appearance is given in detail: disheveled hair, a long mouth, crooked teeth, sharp and ugly features. The author compares her with a frog. Even the charm of childhood does not smooth out these features at all, and in youth it will not be at all attractive (“there is nothing to seduce the imagination”). The lyrical hero anticipates those troubles, those tears and the bitterness of disappointment that await the girl in the future. Insecurity can develop in her, and she will forever remain only a gray shadow among her beautiful friends. But against the background of an uncomplicated description of her appearance, the beauty of her soul stands out especially clearly. It is open for the joy of existence. She lacks feelings of envy and revenge, she is able to share someone else's joy, to experience it as her own: "Someone else's joy is the same as her own tormenting her and out of her heart breaks ...". The heroine is so innocent before this world, open to the knowledge of all that is beautiful, life “rejoices and laughs” in her. She is ready to learn it again and again, to see something new. She is so alive among others, real. Despite the fact that the lack of external beauty dooms the girl to loneliness, the lyrical hero believes that her inner hidden power will cope with all future disappointments and does not disappear in her no matter what: “I want to believe that this flame is pure, which in the depths of it it burns, one alone will get over her pain and melt the heaviest stone! ”This picture in the courtyard leads the lyrical hero to reflect on what beauty really is, in what form it is present in people. He is trying to figure out why we neglect this very "grace of the soul" and idolize the ideal appearance. The question by which the poem ends is rhetorical; it also contains the answer. For the lyrical hero, beauty is not only the outer shell. It is necessary not only to contemplate, but also to comprehend its truth. Real beauty is that light that illuminates our soul and warms with its warmth.

Analysis of the poem "Ugly Girl" by Zabolotsky

The theme of differences between external and internal beauty is raised in the works of poets of different times, and perhaps it will sound for a long time. In his poem “Ugly Girl” Nikolai Zabolotsky describes the appearance of the main character without using metaphors and hyperbolas - he writes what he sees: “facial features are sharp and ugly”, “mouth is long, teeth are crooked”. This is a simple little girl in a leaky shirt, different from her peers in appearance, which the average person would call bad, ugly and repulsive.

But in contrast to the external ugliness, the author of the work subtly observes her character, her inner beauty, the same fire that burns inside the vessel and that which is true beauty. Zabolotsky notes that someone else’s joy for the girl is just like her own, she still does not divide, as adults, into her and someone else’s everything that surrounds her. She is pure in her childish naivety, and with her work the author as if asks the reader to pay attention to the beauty inside, and not what is outside.

Reflecting on what awaits the girl in the future, the author bitterly observes that over time, as a child grows up, the poor child will understand that among her peers she is just a “poor ugly girl” whom they will joke or make friends out of pity. It is highlighted that more attention is paid to appearances, and not to the soul and heart, that in the modern world, even to the author, what is much more appreciated from the outside than what is inside. Nevertheless, the poet hopes that even other people's ridicule will not defile a pure soul, and that a dirty world will not fill the heart with vices and envy. He argues on the topic of what still is beauty - an empty vessel, or fire, flickering in the vessel.

A portrait of a child is not created by Zabolotsky with the help of metaphorical descriptions; the author resorts to clear epithets: “thin shirt”, “rings of curls”, etc. However, reflecting on the topic of feelings, and then the future of an ugly girl, metaphors begin to appear - “embraced by the happiness of being”, “... joy just as it is, it languishes and breaks out of the heart”, “infant grace of the soul”.

The poem can be attributed to the elegy genre, since its author discusses one of the eternal philosophical questions - what is true beauty. The prevailing mood of the work is sad. The size of the poem is a five-foot iambic. Different types of rhyme are presented - parallel, circular, cross. There are both female and male rhymes.
