These patterns are the hallmark of the works of art of Ancient Greece, taking their name from the Meander River (the modern name of Big Menderes), known for its frequent meanders. Clothes, amphorae, images in temples were decorated with a meander stripe, as they believed that a continuous, albeit broken line, symbolized eternity, an endless change of generations, the arrival of a new one in the place of the old, obsolete.

Meander in forging

Although the geometric shapes of the Greek style are not that complicated, there are many ways to use it in forging. Craftsmen of artistic forging, creating their unique products, skillfully and harmoniously combine elements of different thickness, intertwine straight and curved lines, connect a meander garland with leaves, shells, rosettes, and wreaths. The right angles of the ornament, made of a square section of 16x16mm and giving the lines additional rigidity, are connected to horizontal rods by means of balls with a diameter of 20 mm.

These balls soften the hard lines of the square and give them a little lightness. The lower part of the canvas is a simplified “crumbling” lattice, typical and popular in the 17th century. It consists of paired convex-concave rods with a section of 16x8 mm, forming a continuous belt from the left to the right rack. The connected rods form a series of diagonal lines and are connected to each other using round clamps with a diameter of 8 mm, twisted around the rods in 1.5 turns.

A huge number of small clamps add a characteristic zest to the outline of the canvas. And the final element of the whole composition are pompous racks made of a profile pipe 80x80mm and crowned with round balls. The sides of the posts are decorated with ornate leaves and a yoke strip.
