The Samsung GT-B2710 Xcover is IP67 rated for ultra-reliable sealing for the harshest environments. You can drop it out of your pocket so that it flies a couple of flights up the stairs, calmly put it in a bag with tools, put it in a muddy puddle, freeze it in the refrigerator and nothing happens to it. Nothing at all. But it is better to see once than read or hear a hundred times, so for the sake of completeness, watch the videos made by testers from the Mobile-review website: once , two , three... I don't know about you, but I was impressed. It is difficult to imagine what would become of an ordinary telephone or communicator after such experiments. My tests were more humane, I limited myself to bathing the phone in a glass of water:
The phone does not experience any discomfort from being in an alien element. The screen is on, the device is working, you can even call it. It's a pity that you can't answer the call with your voice underwater.
The appearance of the phone is a bit angular, and I personally associate it with a tank or an armored personnel carrier. The body is made of solid polyurethane, there are also plastic covers on the sides, this allows the phone to withstand drops even from great heights. H4 hardness tempered glass protects the screen from scratches. A large ring is made in the upper part of the case for attaching a carbine. The surface of the case is made of special materials, so the phone is pleasant to hold in the hand and does not slip. The buttons are large and convex, easy to press without even taking off your gloves. The backlighting of the keys is very pleasant white, bright and even, well visible both in the dark and in bright light. The phone will probably be large in size and weight for a woman's hand. But in a man's palm it lies like a glove, and in case of emergency situations it can be used as an insert in a fist, since the weight and strength allow it.
The battery cover is secured with a screw, which must be turned with a coin or screwdriver. There is a rubber seal along the edge of the lid, this makes the case tight. Under the battery there is a slot for a SIM card and a slot for a microSD card, cards with a capacity of up to 32 gigabytes are supported. I immediately set myself an 8 gigabyte card, that's enough for me.
On the side of the case there is a universal socket for connecting a charger, headphones or a data cable. It is also closed with a sealed lid, which does not allow liquid to pass inside. Unfortunately, the data cable is not included in the package, so if you buy this phone, you better take care of the accessories right away.
A very bright LED flashlight is built into the top of the phone. To turn it on, you need to press the button on the side of the case for a few seconds. There is enough light from a flashlight to illuminate a dark room or entrance. The flashlight can be activated even if the key lock is turned on on the phone. Some people like it, some don't. This arrangement suits me, since time is not wasted on unlocking the phone.
The phone has a 1300 mAh high-capacity battery, the time for full charging from the mains is about 2 hours, from USB it is a little longer. For my needs, that is, a couple of hours of games on the road, several calls, a dozen SMS a day, the phone charge is enough for about a week. I don't listen to music on my phone, I rarely use additional resource-intensive options such as a GPS-navigator. In general, the phone is very well packed with options. There is a calculator, pedometer, compass, alarm clock, programs for working with mail and the Internet, a planner, FM radio, GPS navigator and much more. The navigation is well thought out, although somewhat unusual after Sony Ericsson. The phone remembers which function you used the last time, and the next time you enter the menu, it will highlight it. The rest is just a matter of habit, but I fully adapted to the new phone after a couple of days of active use. The ringtone volume is adjustable; at maximum volume it is well audible even with a high level of external noise. The vibrating alert is average, you probably won't feel it in a bag, but no problem in your pocket. Also, the phone seems to use some kind of noise reduction system, you can talk, for example, in a subway car, and the interlocutor will hear you clearly.
But the photo and video cameras in the phone are very simple. There is no autofocus, the resolution is only 2 megapixels, although images are obtained up to 1600x1200 pixels. Video is even worse, only 128x160 pixels. So the camera is only for an emergency. However, a camera is intended for photographs, and a video camera is used for video recording. Among the undocumented features, the phone has the ability to take screenshots from the screen. To do this, press and hold the center joystick, then press the "*" (asterisk) key. The phone comes with detailed instructions in Russian, and all the software will have to be downloaded from the Internet. For some reason, the Samsung office recommends using Samsung PC Studio, but in practice I was unable to configure it to work with this device, PC Studio simply did not see the connected phone. But in the instructions, I found a mention of the Samsung Kies program, which docked with the Samsung GT-B2710 from a half-kick. To interact with a computer via a USB cable, select the "Samsung Kies" mode in the connection settings menu, and then connect the phone to the USB cable. With Samsung Kies, you can easily manage your contact list, add audio files, pictures and videos, download photos, and install applications.
After the purchase, several pre-installed demo versions of toys were found in the phone. It seems that their authors naively assumed that users would run headlong to unlock their loot. - Fly OD1(in two colors - black and green, and IP54 protection class);

Therefore, this review will be devoted to a detailed comparison of the previous rugged phone from Samsung - B2710- and new - C3350... First of all, the review will be of interest to those who already have B2710(they will find out what to expect or not to expect from a new phone), and for those who, on the contrary, do not have a previous phone and are going to buy a new one - C3350(for them - a detailed description of the phone and its capabilities).
In general, this review, with the same success, could be published on the phone page B2710 but I have already dedicated two admiring review (s) to it and therefore decided to post it here on the phone page C3350, especially since I have not yet talked about him. If someone is interested in knowing how the numbers indicating the protection class of phones (IP54 / 67 and others) are decoded and which manufacturers of such phones are so fond of bragging about, then you can follow this link - there is detailed information! Also note that these figures only speak of protection against dust and water, but not in any way about protection of the case in case of falls! In this case, you need to look at the case itself, if it has large dimensions and various overlays made of different materials - it means that it is well protected! So far there are no special criteria and numbers by which it would be possible to determine how strongly the case itself is protected, therefore each manufacturer makes them as he sees fit.
Story
Well, first things first, and to begin with, a small excursion into history. In 2008, Samsung decided to meet users halfway and release its first secure phone, and in order not to risk it (since this was their first such experience), it was decided to take a proven budget model as a basis (according to one information she became C140, and on the other - C170) and turn its body into a protected one. This is how the first protected Samsung phone saw the light (or rolled off the assembly line) - M110... And although it had the highest protection class at that time - IP54 (good protection against dust and sand, but weak against water - by the way, modern Fly OD1 has exactly the same!), some professional reviewers of mobile technology considered its protection rather weak and called it - "pseudo-protection" (or "parody of protection"). But this circumstance in no way prevented the company from selling it in Europe in large quantities (apparently, the shortage of such phones at that time affected), which was a complete surprise for the company itself, since they didn't believe in this idea from the very beginning!
It was produced in two colors (black and green) and had the following parameters: size - 109x48x17.9 mm, weight - 95 g, screen diagonal - 1.52 inches, battery - 1000 mAh, bluetooth version 1.2 (now it is already old, slow version), radio, camera - 0.3 megapixel with a flash that could work as a weak flashlight, there was also a strap with a carabiner in the kit. The starting price of the phone in our country was too high (a common thing for devices from Samsung!) And amounted to about 4000 rubles.
Inspired by the sales of its first "secure" phone, the Samsung company in the same 2008 releases its next similar phone - B2700... It had 3 colors (gray, blue and red) and the following technical characteristics: dimensions 115x52x18 mm, weight - 107 g, screen diagonal - 1.9 "and resolution - 176x220, internal memory - 30 MB plus a slot for memory cards (up to 8 GB), a 2 megapixel camera, a 1300 mAh battery, as well as a radio, a pedometer, a compass, an altimeter and a flashlight (absolutely useful functions for a hike and even necessary for a secure phone!), And included a strap with a carabiner, a headset and a device for removing the back cover.The protection class remains the same - IP54, but the body of the device has become stronger and more protected, withstanding serious falls!
A year later, in March 2009, Samsung releases its next secure phone - B2100, which again had 3 colors (red, dark gray and green), and its characteristics were as follows: dimensions 113x48.9x17.4 mm, weight 103 g, screen diagonal - 1.77 "and resolution - 120x160, battery - 1000 mAh , camera - 1.3 megapixels, and a flashlight.In general, it became slightly smaller in size and lighter than the previous model, but at the same time, it was inferior in all other parameters, except for the protection class, which it already had quite decent - IP57 , that is, it was protected from water as well as modern "rugged" phones!
Then it was the turn of the phone E2370 released in 2010 (that is, also, a year later). Its screen parameters were the same as those of the previous model, the dimensions of the steel case were 112x49x19 mm, and the weight was 117 g, the camera resolution was reduced to a mocking 0.3 megapixel (as in the very first protected phone of the company!), The built-in memory became only 9 MB (but, as before, it was possible to use memory cards), of the functions necessary for protected phones, only a flashlight remained, and the protection class decreased and became the same as that of the very first protected phone ( M110) and at B2700(released 2 years ago) - IP54!
In general, it would be a complete failure, if not for one circumstance - it had the most record battery among all protected phones - 2000 mAh, thanks to which it, in the first place, became famous (even now, many phones cannot boast of such a battery! ), it allowed him to be in standby mode for up to 1600 hours (according to other sources - 1040 hours) and work up to 22 hours in talk mode! And it is precisely because of such a powerful battery that the phone weighs more than all other Samsung rugged phones ever!
In the same 2010, Samsung released (the starting price in our country is about 4,790 rubles) another secure phone - it was a brutal handsome B2710, which had 2 colors (black and red) and surpassed in functionality all the previous rugged phones of the company, and even now many multimedia phones do not have the same capabilities that it had at that time (although usually rugged phones are made less functional than "simple "mid-range phones) !!!
Its technical characteristics were as follows: dimensions - 120.7x53x17.9 mm, weight - 115 g, the screen diagonal increased to 2.0 inches, and the resolution became - 240x320 (i.e. the screen became larger than on all previous protected phones of the company ), the battery is 1300 mAh, which allowed talking up to 14.5 hours (according to other sources, up to 19 hours!), and in standby mode it could last up to 600 hours, the camera became 2 megapixel (also more than on all previous phones !), the internal memory became - 34 MB and there was support for memory cards up to 32 GB (according to other sources - up to 16 GB, but usually, as practice shows, the manufacturer greatly underestimates this figure), a compass, a pedometer, a flashlight appeared again (yes one that you will not find on any other phone anymore !!!), radio with the ability to record (and immediately into the main music format - MP3), as well as navigation appeared - GPS and GPS + (or a-GPS)!
It had the highest protection class at that time - IP67 (now some protected phones from Sonim already have an IP68 protection class, but in reality 67 is quite enough!). This means that it is completely protected from dust / sand and can be immersed in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes, and it can also withstand extreme temperatures - which has been tested in practice by extreme users! Although these figures are, of course, underestimated and are only the guarantee that Samsung can confidently give that nothing bad will happen to the phone in such conditions and it will remain fully functional in the future!
I remember reading one review by the lucky owner of this phone, who told how he drowned this phone in a river whose depth was not at all a meter (recommended by the manufacturer), and he lay there not 30 minutes, but a day or even two, during which he looking for him at the bottom. As a result, he found him and they were very happy to meet each other again, especially the phone ☺, which continued to delight its owner with trouble-free work, was especially happy! Another user reported that he generally dived with this phone in the sea, to a depth of 15 meters - and the phone did not care! It makes no sense to list all the amazing records of this phone, many of us have seen them on the Internet, seen what it is really capable of. But, naturally, you should not repeat such experiments (especially since others have already done them for you!), Of course, if you want him to continue to please you! But when some force majeure situation happens, he will definitely not let you down! Yes, Samsung has come a long way, especially considering their very first "rugged" phone!
And now, again, a year later (in October 2011) Samsung distinguished itself again and released a new secure phone - C3350, - thereby preventing everyone from enjoying the previous phone! It had, unlike all the previous ones, only one color (officially - "gray steel") and at the start of sales it cost about the same as the previous phone, but I managed to save a lot - having ordered it from the online store " Ozone"! I was one of the first to purchase this phone, because believed that it would be better than before, and judging by its characteristics, it turned out that way: dimensions - 122x53x17.9 mm, weight - 110 g, screen resolution remained the same - 240x320, but the diagonal increased to 2.2 ", camera and the battery also remained the same - 2 megapixels and 1300 mAh, respectively, although the operating time increased (which is strange with an enlarged screen, it can somehow improve energy saving) and now it could work up to 19 hours of talk time and up to 1000 hours in standby mode, the internal memory also increased - up to 50 MB (plus, of course, a memory card up to 32 GB), the radio began to work without headphones!
But the main thing is that the protection class remained the same - IP67, so all those fantastic protection features that the previous phone had were extended to this one too!
If you look at the technical specifications, you will notice that the new phone surpasses the previous one in almost all respects, I was even surprised myself while I was listing them! But if you work with them a little, you will see a completely different picture, not so rosy! This is the kind of comparison we are going to do now!
Minuses
I'll do it the other way around and first tell you about its cons, in order to end the story on an optimistic note! The bundle of both phones turned out to be completely the same (one to one, they even "forgot" to put the USB cable for connecting to a PC!), Except for the instructions, which the previous phone had in the form of a thick book of small sizes (with a detailed description of color pictures), while the new phone is just a folded sheet, which is usually put to budget phones (up to 1000 rubles) - not such an instruction should have a phone costing almost 5 thousand rubles!
The box has also become much smaller, more like the one that had E2370- although this circumstance cannot be considered a minus, saving paper (and, consequently, saving our forests) can only be welcomed!
But if you pay attention to the dimensions and the same inscriptions on the phone boxes E2370 and C3350("Xcover" and "Xcover 2" respectively), then we can assume that the model C3350 is a direct continuation of the model E2370, then a lot falls into place and a lot can be explained, for example, why C3350 turned out worse than B2710 but better than E2370! It was just necessary to swap the time of release of phones B2710 and C3350, then everything would become logical and each new phone would become better than the previous one!
The first time when I just got my first secure phone - Samsung B2710, its size made a shocking impression, especially against the background of my beloved ultra-thin - Nokia 5310(my review about it), but then I quickly got used to it, and now it lies very comfortably in my hand, I don't even want to let it go!
The new model, although it has become a little lighter in weight, looks larger in width and because of this it lies uncomfortably in the hand, as if it does not fit in it! But what is most interesting is that the dimensions of both phones completely coincide (only the new phone is taller in height, and then only by 2 mm) !!! I didn't even believe this information specified in the technical specifications, and measured both phones - indeed, the numbers turned out to be correct and both phones have exactly the same dimensions, even surprising! Apparently, due to the increased diagonal of the screen, as well as the case painted in a certain way for metal, an optical illusion is created and C3350 looks wider and thinner, which in turn affects the perception of his weight in the hand - he feels heavier, although in fact - he is even lighter than the previous one by 5 g!
The keyboard has also become less comfortable, especially the entire center key (on the two previous phones, the keyboards were much better, with high split keys!). And as the ad to the phone said B2710- "you can type SMS even with gloves!"
Conclusion
Well, that's all I wanted to tell you about these phones! Read, reflect, choose! Although you don't really have to choose, since B2710 has long been discontinued and it is practically impossible to find it in stores (only in some little-known and dubious online stores, although I even saw it in the well-known SotMarket, but now it costs even more than it cost 2 years ago in the very the beginning of sales, the store justifies its status - "one of the most expensive stores in the network"!), another option is to purchase it "from hand" from a good friend.
Samsung B2710 is the best phone among all rugged phones ever released !!! But if I didn’t have it and there would be nothing to compare with, then I would probably be happy with the functionality and protection C3350!
