Make yourself from the remains of drywall. Secrets and nuances. Useful use of leftover and scrap boards

If it's time for renovation and creative ideas, then beautiful and original plasterboard products will help to make a modern stylish interior in the house. This material can be used both for the construction of cabinets and shelves of various designs, and for the creation of purely decorative elements.

First you need to decide:

  • how the room will be zoned,
  • in what style the interior will be decorated,
  • how much space can be allocated for a plasterboard structure,
  • what its function will be (only aesthetic or useful too).

It is convenient to hide communications on the ceiling or in the wall behind drywall:

  • heating pipes,
  • electric wires,
  • ventilation ducts.

General rules for working with drywall

When working with drywall, keep in mind that:

  • Plasterboard sheets are mounted on a metal frame, consisting of two types of profiles: guides and rack. The horizontal parts of the structure are made from the guide profiles, rack-mountable ones are vertically inserted into them, designed for the load (60 cm apart from each other). Drywall is attached to them with special self-tapping screws with a countersunk head. The metal parts of the frame are fastened together with self-tapping screws for metal 14-16 mm.
  • Anchor nails are required to attach the frame to concrete or brick walls. From tools: drill, screwdriver, metal scissors, wallpaper knife, building level, tape measure, hangers for an uneven wall.
  • When developing a sketch, you need to think over the scheme of the lattice of the metal frame, which will take into account not only the main profile lines, but also the jumpers on the racks and long horizontal sections, which will give it rigidity. After that, you need to decide how to cut drywall with the least number of joints and taking into account the attachment to the frame along the perimeter of each sheet.
  • Guide profiles are attached along the marking lines on the floor, ceiling and wall. If you need to make a curvilinear shape, the profile stiffeners are cut in several places at the required distance with metal scissors, after which its back is bent. To get an angle, an incision is also made, and the profile is folded and fastened at this point. It turns out to be stronger than when joining two separate elements.
  • When the frame is completely ready, it is sheathed with plasterboard with its own hands. After careful measurements, every detail is cut out with a jigsaw or an ordinary wallpaper knife. First, cut a layer of cardboard on one side, then break the board along the cut line, and then cut the cardboard from the back side along the break line. Another way of cutting drywall is that after attaching it to the metal frame, the excess is cut off. Self-tapping screws are screwed into drywall every 10-15 cm so that the caps are sunk into the sheet. Drywall is a relatively fragile material. Do not drop the sheets or put too much pressure on the screwdriver. Before finishing, the joints of sheets and self-tapping screws are putty and sanded.

Complex constructions

These are structures, the calculation and installation of which require more time, labor and skills during implementation. They use angles not only 90 degrees, curved contours, asymmetry, many details.

Ideas for intricate decorative elements of the interior can be seen in the photo gallery.

Structurally complex can be:

  • shelves and niches,
  • partitions,
  • arches and columns,
  • dropped ceilings,
  • false fireplaces and various boxes.

Complex structures require the development of a more detailed sketch, it is necessary to provide for additional jumpers that reinforce the frame, and the connection of communications, if necessary.

How to combine beauty with functionality?

You can make an arch, a decorative partition, a niche in the wall and much more from drywall with your own hands. Using the example of a column and a false fireplace, you can determine for yourself the level of complexity of creating certain structures with your own hands.

Columns

These interior elements help to divide the space of the room into separate zones, so they are more suitable for large rooms. But even in a small room or in the corridor, you can install a half-column. It is easy to hide wires and pipes in the column box; shelves and lighting fixtures can be built into it. Part of the column can be, for example, an aquarium or a cat's house. The column can have any shape, because drywall is easy to process. If the sheet needs to be bent, then it is moistened. After drying, the shape is retained. With a large diameter of the column, wooden restraints or pipe sections with the same radius are used to shape the shape. In the case of bending sheets to a small diameter, a needle roller is used, it is carried out over the entire surface of the drywall, on which holes remain, and the sheet bends well after it is moistened. If communications will pass through the column, the work on laying them must be completed before attaching the drywall. Electric wires are placed in special non-combustible insulation.

For sound insulation of internal processes in pipes, mineral wool or isover is used.

Fireplaces (false fireplaces)

A real wood-burning fireplace in a modern interior very successfully replaces a false plasterboard fireplace, which you can make yourself. It helps to enjoy the warmth of the hearth without the problems of fire hazard and gas disposal. A false fireplace is a drywall box that only outwardly repeats the look of a real fireplace. You can decorate its firebox by placing candles on the floor, you can put a container with live fire without smoke on fuel from a mixture of alcohol and gasoline - a biofireplace. Often, an electric fireplace insert is built into the box of a false fireplace with an imitation of a flame and the possibility of heating the room.

  • The fireplace can be wall-mounted or corner. A wood-burning fireplace as a source of heating should be located in the center of the wall or in a corner, and the firebox should be turned to the center of the room for better circulation of warm air. If an electric fireplace with a heating function is built into a drywall box, then it will be logical to adhere to the same rule and build the box without blocking the ventilation holes, having connected the electrical outlet in advance.
  • The size of a real fireplace corresponds to the size of the room. Its correct operation depends on this: no smoke, sufficient heat transfer. The size of a false fireplace is not limited by anything, it can be a tiny hearth - a zoning assistant, or it can take the entire wall, install a mantelpiece, build a box that imitates a chimney and surround such a fireplace with plasterboard niches and lighting.
  • In terms of style, there is a lot to think about here. The surrounding furniture and wallpaper dictate the choice of colors, finishes, and the shape of the fireplace. The depth of the firebox depends on its subsequent decoration. Its decoration can be anything you like, depending on the idea of the master, his forces and means.
  • Taking into account the finishing material, you need to choose the type of drywall: in the case of finishing with decorative tiles using tile glue, you should use a moisture-resistant drywall (green). The tile can also be glued to liquid nails. It is necessary to remember the laboriousness and complexity of such finishing in the absence of experience with this material. Decorative tiles or artificial stone will have to be cut on a stone cutting machine with water supply or a grinder with a good stone disc (metal will last much longer and cuts faster).
  • A false fireplace can be plastered and painted. When applying putty, it is not difficult to give it texture using a special spatula. You can partially or completely cover the fireplace with wallpaper, paint it with acrylic paints, decorate it with retro prints using decoupage technique, scrapbooking elements or decorate it in a fashionable shabby chic style, which corresponds to the very popular French Provence fireplace style. Such popular styles as: "Baroque", "Chalet" or classic, can be easily and very effectively implemented using polyurethane in the decoration, reminiscent of plaster moldings, also executed in different styles, smooth or embossed, with ornaments. With the help of all kinds of polyurethane moldings, platbands, cornices, rosettes, it is possible to create a real work of art. Polyurethane parts can not only be painted, but also covered with gold foil imitating precious metals.

After appearing on the construction market, drywall quickly gained popularity, this is due to the fact that it is easy to work with it and you do not have to be a professional for this. This material can also be used for interior decoration, or you can make drywall furniture.

Drywall can be used for interior decoration, or you can make drywall furniture.

This building material bends well, therefore it can be used to create a wave or semicircle on the ceiling, as well as the head of a bed or wardrobe. Consider what can be done from this building material.

Using drywall, you can make an outrigger cornice yourself.

From the specified material, you can make not only furniture, but also interior items, for example, a cornice. Using drywall, you can make an outrigger cornice yourself, you can install a backlight in it, and your window will look attractive and unique. In order to fix the specified structure on the ceiling, you must first make a metal frame.

An option may arise when you plan to install such a cornice in advance, in this case you just need to create a structure from a metal profile and sheathe it with gypsum board sheets.

If you already have a ceiling, and you decide to install a plasterboard cornice, then to attach the frame to the gypsum board sheets, you need to use special fasteners (butterflies), they allow you to securely fix the hinged structure.

GKL shelves

To carry out the work you will need:

  • an impact drill or better a hammer drill;
  • scissors for working with metal;
  • screwdriver;
  • utility knife or hacksaw for cutting drywall;
  • measuring instruments: plumb line, level, tape measure.

Drywall shelves can be either hinged or in the thickness of the wall.

If you decide to make furniture with your own hands from drywall, then most often they opt for creating shelves. They can be both hinged and located in the thickness of the wall. Regardless of the type of shelves, their basis is a frame made of metal guides.

The disadvantage of gypsum sheets is that it is not very durable, therefore, when creating a frame for furniture, one must take into account the weight of the items that will be on the shelf. To strengthen the structure, a more durable frame must be made. Drywall is not a universal building material, and if you need to make, for example, a stand for an aquarium, then it is better to choose wood or stone, an acrylic plate is better for the countertop.

A bathroom cabinet can be made from the specified building material, but moisture-resistant sheets must be used. A bathtub or shower stall should not be adjacent to it, and there should be a good hood in the room itself so that excess moisture does not accumulate.

How to make doorways from gypsum plasterboard? If you have mastered the manufacture of furniture such as a shelf, then you can move on to more time-consuming projects, for example, the construction of various intra-apartment buildings.

Most often, people make a drywall portal at the site of the old passage. Many owners prefer to have an original arch instead of a regular doorway.

In order to make an arch, you must:

The "skeleton" of the arch is made of a metal profile.

  • remove the old door and its frame;
  • clean the walls from dirt;
  • fix the profile in the upper part of the opening with self-tapping screws;
  • measure and cut two side panels;
  • fix the resulting panels on the profiles;
  • bending the drywall sheet in order to close the void between the side panels;
  • the resulting joints and sheets are covered with a reinforcing mesh and putty, after which they are sanded.

GKL sheets can be bent quite strongly, so that not only arches, but also ovals, columns, and other complex shapes can be made of them.

During the renovation, many have a desire to create something unusual in the interior of their apartment. Plasterboard products will perfectly help to cope with this task. They can be attached to profiles along with the rest plasterboard sheets, which will allow you to create almost any design, you can even turn the house into a shaped castle. Plasterboard sheets are very easy to cut and generally easy to process, so it's not difficult to create drywall products with your own hands. We are talking about both complex plasterboard structures, which have long become a familiar element of renovation, and purely design solutions and figured decorations.

What is this article about

Repair planning

The first thing to decide on is the zoning of the room. Think about where you could add an extra divider to divide a large room into two smaller ones. You can also carry out the reverse operation, to unite rooms by demolishing the wall. In this case, drywall structures are not involved, but the sounding needs to be planned to the smallest detail.

Immediately decide in what style your apartment will be decorated, what decorative elements you are going to use. It would not hurt to decide on the design finish, as it is necessary that it goes well with all designs.

It is very important to plan clearly how much space you can allocate to accommodate the drywall structure. Without making this decision in advance, you may incorrectly create a drawing that needs to be drawn up before installation.

Think about whether you need a purely aesthetic design, or you want to combine the beautiful with the useful.

It is worth considering that plasterboard structures are attached directly to the wall, so it is necessary to provide for possible rearrangements of furniture in the future. But you shouldn't worry about communication. All wires, pipes and other systems can be very easily hidden under drywall.

Rules for working with the material

To create any drywall construction, whether it is useful or just beautiful, you need to know the general rules that apply to any work related to the installation of drywall sheets.

To attach plasterboard sheets to the wall, you must first mount the frame, which is created from rack and rail metal profiles. Guide profiles are the horizontal base of the frame, and the post ones are attached to them to hold the load. To attach drywall sheets to the frame, you will need special self-tapping screws with a countersunk head. The profiles themselves are attached to each other with special self-tapping screws for metal.

Sometimes drywall products have to be. To perform this procedure, you will need special dowel-nails.

When you develop a sketch, you will need to mark on it all the important indicators of the metal frame. Think over the layout of the lattice. On the diagram, not only the main profile lines should be marked, but also the transverse jumpers, which give the frame rigidity. After the lattice of the frame has been thought out, you need to think about how to cut the cardboard so as to get the least number of joints.

Attach the guide profiles of the metal frame, focusing on the markings on the floor, walls and on the ceiling. Sometimes a situation arises when you need to create a curved profile shape. For example, if you are making an arch in the opening. Take a profile and use metal scissors to make several cuts along the line. After that, the rigid profile can be bent and the result will be much more reliable than when joining two elements.

As soon as you finish making the frame, you can immediately start with your own sheathing. plasterboard sheets. Take measurements and check the drawing. After that, you can start cutting out the desired drywall forms. This material is very easy to cut, so you can use a regular jigsaw or even a wallpaper knife.

Complex plasterboard structures

Complex plasterboard structures will require a lot of time, skill, and more detailed sketches. To create a truly complex intricate design, knowledge of geometry and drawing will not interfere.

Complex structures can be found in different types of plasterboard products, such as suspended ceilings or niches.

The apartment can surprise with intricate arches, columns and partitions.

To create complex plasterboard structures, you need to draw up a more complex and detailed sketch, since in planning the frame, you need to provide additional jumpers that are needed to hold the weight of individual additional elements. And also, it will not be superfluous to think over the wiring of communication lines in advance, since in complex structures it may be more difficult to hide them, depending on the situation.

Create a drywall column

A column is not only a beautiful and elegant interior solution for a room, but also a useful structure that will allow you to divide one large room into several zones. Of course, it is possible to successfully insert such a miracle into a small room, but nevertheless, columns are much more suitable for large halls. The column box is a very useful and practical thing. You can hide various communications in it, attach some shelves or even lamps. Many even manage to mount an aquarium or a house for a pet into the column.

As mentioned earlier, drywall sheets are very easy to process, so the column can take any shape you want. To bend a drywall sheet, simply moisten it with water. It becomes flexible enough from moisture, and when it dries, the form will firmly adhere to the sheet. If the column has a large diameter, then a variety of wooden restraints can be used to shape it, or a metal pipe of a suitable diameter. If you plan to carry out communications right inside the column, then you need to do this even before you start plasterboarding. And the wires should generally be placed in a special corrugated pipe for the sake of safety.

If you run a pipe in a column, then it will not hurt to create additional sound insulation, because it is not very pleasant when the murmur of water comes from such an elegant product. To create sound insulation, it is enough to use mineral wool, placing it between the frame profiles.

Creating a false fireplace

Such a wonderful element of the interior as a fireplace is now being successfully replaced by fake fireplaces, which are made of plasterboard. This design is practical in terms of fire and gas safety, so you don't have to worry about your life and health. A false fireplace is a plasterboard box, which resembles a fireplace only in its appearance, in fact, there is no source of open fire on the wood and is not close.

A false fireplace can be wall or corner. A regular fireplace should be in the center of a wall or in a corner, and it also needs to ensure proper air circulation. A decorative false fireplace is a freer and less picky option, but if you plan to build a heating element into it, you will have to follow the same rules as with a natural fireplace.

Unlike a real fireplace, this design is absolutely unlimited in size. It can be customized to suit any need, made small enough to save space, or create a large and beautiful wall-to-wall structure with a bunch of small additions.

Decide what material you will use to decorate the fireplace. If you will be using tiles, it is better to choose green drywall sheets to create the structure. This type of drywall is different from the usual one. It has the same properties, but additionally retains resistance to moisture. You can glue decorative tiles with liquid nails. It is important to know that finishing the fireplace will take more effort than in the case of walls, especially if you use natural stone, which is quite difficult to cut without special tools and proper work experience.

There is another option - the fireplace can be simply putty and painted, or pasted over with wallpaper. Using a trowel, you prepare the plasterboard surface for finishing by applying an even layer of plaster to the fireplace. You can also use acrylic paints and paint a variety of designs on the fireplace if you have a talent for an artist.

Plasterboard constructions occupy a special place in modern interiors, as they are an original addition to any setting. From this material, you can make both simple and complex models, ranging from pieces of furniture to partitions and ceilings. Drywall is simple and versatile in work, so it is quite possible to create unique elements from it with your own hands, without having certain skills for this. In addition, the material is presented in various types, which makes it possible to use it indoors, regardless of their temperature regime and humidity level.

Peculiarities

Drywall is considered a unique building material, which is produced in the form of sheets. Due to its special structure and flexibility, it can be applied to any surface, decorating the interior of rooms with interesting design ideas. The most popular plasterboard structures are suspended ceilings and arches. Since the material is lightweight, it does not need additional surface reinforcement and is quickly assembled. To make curly parts from it, it is enough to first draw the diagrams, cut the elements along them and fix everything.

The main feature of drywall is that it easily changes shape when it gets wet. Thanks to this quality, it can be used not only for the implementation of any ideas in the interior, but also for leveling surfaces.

If we consider the advantages and disadvantages of drywall structures, then it is worth noting that they have many advantages:

  • create even coatings, at the end of the finish, the material acts as an ideal base for painting, ceramic tiles and wallpaper;
  • allows you to make parts of various shapes;

  • high air permeability and environmental friendliness;
  • good sound and heat insulation;
  • fire resistance and strength;
  • affordable price.

Despite the positive characteristics, drywall has one drawback - it is fragility. Therefore, it is not recommended to install it on walls that are exposed to mechanical stress.

Kinds

Plasterboard structures are boxes sheathed with sheets and decorated with decorative cladding. They are used for interior design, the result is a beautiful interior, and the rooms are filled with home comfort. Plasterboard compositions can be complex, simple, curved, even and enclosing.

Depending on the scope of their use, the following types of structures are distinguished.

  • Ceilings. In order to level the ceiling tiles, simple single-level systems are installed. If you need to decorate the room in an original way, then choose multi-level ceilings, consisting of many curly inserts, lighting and stretch fabric.

  • Walls. From drywall sheets, you can perform as a simple finish and hide all surface defects, or you can apply decor and create chic partitions for zoning a room. In addition, "full-fledged" walls are also constructed from this material, which help to separate one room from another.
  • Arches. Recently, decorative arches have been very popular, which, unlike ordinary interior openings, can have a trapezoidal, rounded and rectangular shape. Arches in the form of an ellipse look beautiful, as well as installed in a semicircle

  • Furniture. Plasterboard is often used to make bookshelves, shelves and special niches in the walls. In addition, it is also possible to create a bar counter, wardrobe and a small wall for the hallway or living room. Furniture made from such material turns out to be not only stylish, but also multifunctional. At the same time, for rooms with high humidity, it is recommended to use moisture-resistant sheets, from which you can build shelves in the kitchen for storing things or a niche for appliances.
  • Decorative boxes. They are installed to hide cables and various communications. Plasterboard ideally aligns window and door slopes or close the ventilation system.
  • Decor. Since this building material is easy to finish, it is often used for the manufacture of columns, false fireplaces and geometric niches.

Dimensions (edit)

Usually drywall sheets are produced in a standard size of 2500 * 1200 * 12.5 mm. In addition, many manufacturers produce sheets 1.2 m wide and 2 to 3.6 m long. The thickness of drywall can also vary from 6.5 to 12.5 mm. In order to choose the right material, you need to know not only its dimensions, but also take into account the type of surface that is planned to be covered with it. So, for example, to create parts of a complex structure, it is recommended to purchase an arched drywall, its thickness does not exceed 6.5 mm, thanks to which the product is able to bend to any radius.

In the case when it is necessary to build partitions, niches or align walls, then it is better to give preference to wall plasterboard, the thickness of which is 12.5 mm. As for the installation of ceiling structures, ceiling plasterboard with a thickness of 8 to 9.5 mm is ideal for them. Outwardly, it does not differ in any way from ordinary material, but it has a small weight.

Colors

Plasterboard is produced in a wide range, it is considered one of the most demanded materials in construction. Each type of product differs not only in its size, but also in properties and technical indicators. Going to buy drywall, you need to pay attention to the fact that it is sold in various colors, which indicate the properties and scope of the material. It should be noted that the color scheme does not affect the appearance of the finish.

Gray drywall is usually chosen for the installation of interior partitions and for leveling the walls., it is made of cardboard and gypsum with a thickness of 12.5 mm. It is considered the cheapest option for facing surfaces in rooms with normal humidity and temperature conditions. Green sheets are characterized by a high level of moisture resistance, therefore they are recommended for installation in rooms where the air humidity exceeds 70%. Red and pink drywall is highly resistant to fire, it is used for cladding ventilation systems and fireplace structures. The presence of a yellow color on the surface of the material means that it can be used for cladding facades and foundations that are constantly exposed to the negative effects of moisture, sunlight and drafts.

Style and design

Various designs are made from drywall sheets, which act not only as an original interior decoration, but also allow you to divide or combine several zones in a room. Recently, arches can be found in many apartments; they are a stylish transition between rooms and, unlike ordinary doorways, harmoniously fit into all design styles. In order for such a structure to get a complete look, it is additionally decorated with wallpaper or masonry.

There are also many design options for drywall niches. Their design can be of different depths, sizes and shapes. Various decorations in the form of figurines, flowers, vases and toys will help to give aesthetics to the niches. In addition, their finishing provides for the installation of lighting and colored glasses. In the kitchen and bathroom, the walls sheathed with plasterboard are usually finished with ceramic tiles or materials with imitation of stone and bricks.

How to choose and do it yourself

Before placing plasterboard structures in a renovated room, you need to draw up an accurate diagram indicating the size and location of the parts.

Collecting elements with your own hands is not difficult, but it is advisable to do this, adhering to certain rules, the following step-by-step instructions will help in this.

  • The first step is to determine the center of the room and mark the guides. Then the profiles are attached to the places indicated according to the diagram. For the installation of the arches, the profiles are additionally reinforced with racks, observing a step of 20-30 cm.
  • At the second stage, the upper guides of the structure are fixed.

  • The next step in the installation is considered to be working with sheets of drywall, from which the necessary structural details are prepared. Before bending the material, it must be moistened with water, this will allow you to get the maximum radius of the figure.
  • The final stage. The protruding material residues are cut off with a knife and the resulting part is putty. In order for the structure to acquire a flat and smooth surface, it must also be treated with a primer and all seams must be carefully sealed with putty.

Depending on the type of room, various design ideas are used in the form of installing a false ceiling, niche or partitions. Using drywall, the interior can be decorated in the following rooms:

For the living room

In the event that the room has high ceilings, then multi-level suspended structures will look perfect in it, which can be decorated with various colored inserts and artistic painting. In a small drywall room, it is recommended to arrange a niche for a TV, into which you can also build an aquarium. Plasterboard shelves, which can be installed near the sofa and equipped with lamps, also look unusual in the living room.

To the bedroom

This room requires a special approach to design, so simple shapes and clear lines should be present in its interior. In the bedroom, drywall will look original not only on the ceiling, but also on the wall. It is good for them to decorate the head of the bed, creating a false wall and decorating it with profiles under a wooden beam. You can also make stylish bedside shelves and bedside tables from drywall sheets; with bright illumination, they will create a romantic atmosphere in the room.

In bathroom

For cladding surfaces in the bathroom, only moisture-resistant material must be used. Plasterboard structures in this room can be different. If the room is small, then it is possible to install a suspension system of a simple design in it or sheathe only half of the ceiling and the sink with it. At the same time, ceiling structures with LED lighting look gorgeous.

For the hallway

The interior of this room can be originally complemented by any plasterboard construction, the choice of which largely depends on the area of the room. As a rule, arched structures are installed in the hallways, which allow you to create a modern design. In addition, such rooms often have multilevel ceilings and false walls made of plasterboard.

To the kitchen

Since a lot of steam is released in the kitchen during cooking, it must be finished with moisture-resistant plasterboard sheets. It can be used to build partitions or make corner cabinets. Well suited for the kitchen and a plasterboard structure such as an arch.

Required tools and accessories

Plasterboard decorative parts are an original decoration of any interior, but in order to install them, it is necessary to choose the right not only material, but also the appropriate tools. For strong fastening of the structure, it is placed on a frame, for the manufacture of which a cutter 0270 and metal U-shaped profiles with a length of 3 to 6 meters are used. In addition, to create the frame, guides and support profiles are also required, thanks to which you can form the desired angle of the metal structure under the gypsum board.

As for additional fasteners, they include suspensions, screws and dowels. Structures are sheathed using sheets of SP 55 101 2000. Since the details of the structure must be of the correct size, they are cut with a knife. Also, for work with drywall, you will need a tape measure, a level, a needle roller and a ruler.

In order for the repair of the premises at the end of the finishing work to please with a high-quality result, the plastering of surfaces with plasterboard must be carried out correctly. This also applies to the installation of plasterboard structures.

If the interior design is done by hand, you must follow the following recommendations.

  • It is necessary to use drywall for finishing, which has a flat surface. If microcracks are visible on the sheets, then such material is considered unsuitable for work.
  • Installation should be carried out in a room with a temperature of at least + 10C.
  • It is necessary to cut the sheets with a respirator and glasses.

If you are making repairs in an apartment using drywall, you may be asking yourself: how else can you use this versatile and easy-to-use material? With its help, it is easy to embody a variety of design ideas and add a touch of originality to the interior. From sheets of plasterboard and even from their scraps, you can make interesting cabinets, shelves, a coffee table, window and door slopes, pipe boxes. Plasterboard columns can become an exclusive decoration of your bedroom, and a dressing room made of this material can complement it in a functional sense.

How to make a dressing room in the bedroom

A drywall wardrobe that can be placed in the bedroom will help not only create a harmonious design, but also save space and time, since all wardrobe items will be located in easily accessible places. And if it is made by hand, money will also be saved.

You can also think about making a plasterboard suspended ceiling inside the dressing room with your own hands. If you want to have natural light in this isolated part of the bedroom, make sure that the walls have openings.

You may also need dowels (if you will be installing the profile on concrete bases). Required tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • metal shears for profile cutting;
  • plumb line;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • level.

Sequence of work

During installation, a certain sequence of actions must be observed:

  • Marking the places where profiles are attached to surfaces. You can start it from the ceiling, where the guide profile will be installed. Then, using a plumb line, you need to transfer the markings to the floor, where the lower guide profile will be located.
  • Installation of guide profiles to the floor and to the ceiling. If the surface is concrete, use dowels (6 x 48 mm).
  • Installation of rack profiles. They should be located at a distance of 60 cm from each other. During installation, the rack profiles are attached to the walls and to the ceiling by means of straight hangers. In the place where the doorway will be located, you need to fix a horizontal profile, the length of which will be 10 cm longer than the width of the opening.
  • Reinforcement with timber beams of profiles that carry a large load. For example, these are profiles bordering the dressing room door and those adjacent to the wall.
  • The "skeleton" of the profiles is completed by transverse elements. These short horizontal lines are installed every 60 cm.

To equip the lighting in the dressing room before sheathing the plasterboard structure, you need to take care of the electricity supply.

  • desired configuration. In doing so, follow the wise dictum: "Measure seven times, cut once" to avoid wasting money.
  • Installation of prepared sheets to a metal frame using self-tapping screws.
  • Puttying of corners, holes with screws and joints of sheets.
  • Surface priming.
  • Finishing finish. From the inside, the dressing room can be pasted over with wallpaper or painted, from the outside - use a material that will be in harmony with the decor of the room.

The best option for doors for a dressing room is a sliding design.

Columns made of plasterboard

Columns of various configurations and sizes can be made from drywall with your own hands, which will not only become a highlight of the bedroom interior, but can also perform many useful functions:

  • divide the room into zones;
  • mask risers, pipes;
  • serve as a stand for the necessary items and a source of additional lighting.

Columns of various configurations and sizes can be made by hand. They can be either rectangular, with niches, or round, semicircular or polyhedral.

The principle of work when creating structures from drywall of this type will be the same as for a dressing room, starting with markings and ending with plasterboard cladding and puttying. However, there are several nuances to consider:

  • If a rectangular column is installed in the middle of the room, 4 vertical posts will be required, if against the wall - 2.
  • You need to align the corners of the columns using a special perforated corner.
  • You can decorate drywall structures with decorative plaster, paint, wallpaper, decorative stone, mosaics.
  • To give the column a complete look, skirting boards are installed along its perimeter from above and below.
