How to make a concrete lamp. Do-it-yourself spectacular loft-style lamp. Step-by-step master class with photos Concrete plant pots

Glass, concrete and LEDs in this product are combined to create a modern, original and stylish lighting element that will be a great addition to the interior. Details of the manufacturing process in the given master class.

Materials (edit)
To make an LED lamp with your own hands, prepare:
LED garland;
a cylindrical glass vase 26.5 cm high;
PVC pipe;
concrete mix;
miter saw;
thermal gun and hot glue sticks;
cling film;
electrical tape;
hacksaw;
stationery knife;
drill;
grinder;
plastic bottle;
foamed adhesive tape;
nail;
a piece of plywood or wood plank.

Step 1. Cut a piece about 13 cm high from the PVC pipe. This will be the mold for the concrete base of your lamp. Adjust its height yourself. The pipe diameter for this project will depend on the diameter of the vase you have taken. There is no need to process the PVC part, it will become the outer wall of the concrete base mold.

Step 2. A cylindrical luminaire base with an empty recess inside is to be made of concrete. To make it, you need a small plastic bottle, which must be cut in height about 2 - 3 cm lower than the outer part of the mold.

Step 3. At the top of the concrete base of the lamp, there should be a small rim on which the vase will be mounted. To make it, glue foam tape on the inside of a piece of prepared PVC pipe.

Step 4. Cover the bottom of the form with cling film and fix it with electrical tape.

Step 5. Dissolve the concrete mix with water in the ratio indicated by the mix manufacturer.

Step 6. Place the prepared part of the pipe on a piece of plywood. Place an upside-down, cut and empty plastic bottle right in the center of it.

Step 7. Gradually start pouring concrete mortar into the mold. Periodically knock on the wall of the PVC pipe with a rubber hammer so that the parts of the mortar settle to the bottom and do not rise. As the material is poured, the plastic bottle may be pushed upward. Take a nail and lower it to the bottom.

Step 8. Take a grinder and use it to create vibrations to shrink the concrete mortar. Continue to hold the bottle with your nail during this process.

Step 9. Leave the entire structure to dry completely. This process can take several days.

Step 10. The resulting concrete base for the lamp you need to get out of the mold. To remove the concrete from the bottom side, gently tap it with a hammer.

It will be easy to remove the mold if you have previously oiled it. If you poured concrete into an unprepared mold, make two small cuts on it with a hacksaw or saw, and remove the PVC part.

Step 11. Sand the resulting workpiece with sandpaper or a sander using the 60 grit attachment.

Step 12. Drill a hole at the top to accommodate a wire that is connected to a plug or other power source. On the bottom side, make a small groove for the wire. This will keep the lamp base stable on a flat surface.

Step 13. Thread the wire through the prepared hole and fix it using hot glue.

Step 14. Connect the LED string to the wire. Place it carefully in the vase. To do this, pre-wind the product on any cylindrical object. Cover the concrete base with a makeshift glass jar.

Among lovers of DIY crafts, concrete has become a fairly popular material due to its low cost and ease of use. Concrete lamps are very heavy and cold, but this fact does not affect the versatility of such devices, they will perfectly fit into any interior design. To this end, designers create various forms of cement, decorate and paint them in an original way, giving it such shades as gold, silver or copper.

It is worth noting that concrete lamps made by the hands of designers are highly rated, so not everyone has the opportunity to acquire such a luxurious product. To save your money, you can create this light source with your own hands.

Concrete light fixture using package

Before proceeding with the manufacture of this type of lamps, it is necessary to prepare the following materials:

  • milk carton. An important condition is that the packaging should not allow moisture to pass through, otherwise the concrete will lose its strength. The larger the luminaire is planned, the larger the package should be chosen;
  • a plastic bottle into which the light source should then be placed;
  • dry mix for concrete.

The first step is to get rid of the folding edges of the package and place a plastic bottle in it. Next, you need to drill holes in the resulting structure. To facilitate this process, it is recommended to pre-make holes in these places using a nail or screwdriver. Then you should fix the bottle with a bolt, passing it through the drilled holes and securing it.

To preserve the moisture resistance of the packaging, the joints must be treated with a sealant. Thus, we get the base where the concrete will be poured. The dry mixture is diluted with water according to the rules described in the instructions for it. The main thing here is to prevent excess fluid.

The consistency of the finished solution should be similar to shortcrust pastry. Therefore, the water should be poured in gradually, while each particle of the mixture should become wet. After preparation, the concrete should be laid in the previously made mold, pressing it tightly enough, thereby eliminating the formation of empty spaces. For complete de-airing of the product, the bag must be thoroughly shaken.

After use, all tools must be washed immediately, otherwise the concrete mixture will set, which will make its removal almost impossible. After two days (so much is required for the concrete to harden), the package should be disposed of, and the bolt should be unscrewed. To add originality to the concrete luminaire, it is recommended to make additional holes in it. This will help diffuse the light output. A light source is placed in a plastic bottle, which is then connected to a switch. The finished device can be placed either on the wall or suspended from the ceiling.

Lighting device with bottle application

Pendant lamps made of concrete are no less popular. This device is easily made by yourself. For this purpose, materials such as a sand-cement mixture are used, which contains gravel, water, a network source, an electric cord, self-tapping screws (designed for working with wood), a pair of plastic bottles (differing in size), a lamp holder, as well as additional accessories : knife, drill, threaded tube. The bottles should be prepared first. To do this, you need to cut off their bottom and drill holes for the threaded tube.

The lamp holder is fixed with nuts and self-tapping screws on both sides, due to which the base for the lamp is considered to be prepared. The next step involves the preparation of a cement-sand mixture, after which it is necessary to fill the base (using a spoon) for the lamp with it, pressing down a little. This concrete placement method helps to remove excess air and also ensures an even distribution of the cement.

When the concrete hardens, the plastic is removed with a knife along with self-tapping screws. The uneven surface of the concrete must be sanded with a grit size 120. The last step is to connect the cord to the light bulb and to the voltage source. Taking into account the weight of the concrete product, you should make sure that the fastening is strong.

Concrete garden light

Such products fit perfectly into the general appearance of the garden plots. In addition to their main function of lighting, they serve as a decorative element. Following the recommendations described below, it is quite possible to make these lamps with your own hands. First you need to make the formwork. The material for it is a sheet of plywood, whose thickness is 12 mm.

When creating a form, you should ensure that it can be easily parsed. It is advisable to varnish the details of the base, which will then help to detach it from solid concrete intact. Multiple varnishing will give the finished product a shine and shine. The wiring of the concrete luminaire can be arranged using foam plastic or corrugated pipe. The most optimal is the first option, due to which the mass of the luminaire is significantly reduced, and the costs of concrete are reduced.

Glue is used to secure the foam. In addition, another advantage is the ease with which the material can be removed. If there are fragments left that are difficult to get rid of, it is recommended to use acetone, which completely dissolves the foam. The next step is to create the formwork inside the product. For this purpose, it is possible to use both plywood and cardboard.

The main thing is that their walls have a thickness of at least 25 mm. Also, this formwork should be made in the form of a trapezoid, which will ensure ease of removal. Foam grooves for wiring are laid in the openings. As a cement mixture, it is allowed to use both ready-made and self-made.

When choosing the second option, cement M-500 is used in combination with sand (ratio of one to three). The additive can be gravel or granite chips (one part). By diluting the mixture, it is necessary to achieve the consistency of a shortcrust pastry. In the next step, concrete is laid in the formwork. First of all, it is recommended to fill in hard-to-reach places, and then the rest of the space.

In order for the mixture to lay down more densely, a vibration sander should be used. A product filled with a concrete mixture should be covered with plastic wrap for at least three days. This will eliminate the possibility of water leakage from the concrete, as well as give it strength. After the mixture has hardened, the formwork is removed, the lamp is sanded, and the lamp is installed.

Such material as concrete today is used not only for construction purposes, but also for interior decoration, representing an original and stylish decoration element. The main advantage of the above-described concrete lamps is not only an unusual design, but also the ease of self-production. In addition to lamps, due to the ability of this material to take various forms, various vases, tables and chairs, flower pots are created.

Recently, concrete has become a popular and fashionable addition to the interior. As an element of decor, it entered the design with the loft style in the 50s of the last century. Today, concrete can be used to make tables, dishes, chairs, furniture fronts, sinks and much more. In this article, we will show you how to make a do-it-yourself concrete table lamp.

What is concrete?

Concrete is an environmentally friendly product that can be recycled and reused. The recipe for making concrete is quite simple. All you need is cement, gravel, sand and water. The exact ratio of all components of the solution is very important, since the strength of future products depends on this. The main component of the concrete mix is cement. When choosing its brand, it is necessary to determine the level of load and the impact of external destructive factors.

Pay attention to the water that you will add to the concrete mix. If it contains components that violate the structure of concrete, it is better to refuse it. River or lake water is ideal. Speaking about the ratio of proportions, you can see them on the back of the package. Remember that such a ratio is rather arbitrary, therefore, without precise calculations, an unexpected result may turn out.

DIY loft-style concrete lamps at home

To create a DIY concrete lamp at home, it is best to use decorative concrete. The composition of such concrete contains natural ingredients, so it is safe for health. In addition, decorative concrete allows you to simulate various coatings: wood, stone, decorative tiles, brick and much more.

Regardless of which concrete you are using, it is recommended that you sift it before mixing. It is important to use a construction mask that will protect the respiratory tract from harmful dust.

What do you need to make a loft lamp with your own hands?

Concrete is perfect for creative ideas. Despite the coldness of the material, such products bring coziness, warmth and complement any interior style. Also concrete can be combined with other materials. When making a concrete lamp, you can give any color using special dyes for concrete.

The main advantage of concrete is naturalness and environmental friendliness. You can easily make it yourself, without using any special materials, tools and accessories.

How to make a table lamp with your own hands? You will need:

  • durable cement-sand mixture;
  • drill;
  • cord;
  • lamp holder;
  • threaded tube;
  • two plastic bottles of different sizes;
  • self-tapping screws for wood.

The first thing to do is prepare the bottles. To do this, cut off the bottom and drill holes in the bottle caps. The size of the hole must be such that a threaded tube can be inserted. Then insert the tube into the holes obtained and fix its position with the nuts. Screw the resulting structure onto the bottles. Use self-tapping screws to stabilize the bottles. In this way, a form is prepared for a concrete lamp.

Now you can start mixing the concrete. The main thing is not to overdo it with water. The mixture should be like cookie dough. Stir it thoroughly so that every grain of the mixture is moist. Remember that all concrete work must be done with gloves, as concrete dries the skin a lot, and concrete dust is not removed from the lungs.

Lay out the resulting concrete. Use a large spoon to fill the mold. Shake and squeeze the bottle a little after each spoon to make sure the mixture is evenly distributed. Shake well at the end. This will help remove excess bubbles.

Do not forget to wash immediately the dishes in which you mixed the concrete. Otherwise, it will quickly set, and it will be extremely difficult to remove it.

After a couple of days, as soon as the concrete hardens, you can cut off the plastic bottles with a knife and remove the screws. Since the concrete will have a rough shape, it is best to sand its surface with 120 grit sandpaper.

The last step is to connect the cord through a metal tube to the socket and switch. Make sure the lamp is well secured and the mountings can support the significant weight of the concrete.

Ordinary concrete, which has an unsightly gray color, is not particularly beautiful. Therefore, it is recommended to use decorative concrete - a material that combines low cost of components, ease of manufacture, aesthetic appearance and increased strength.

Concrete color

The concrete structure does not have to be gray and dull. Thanks to modern technologies, mineral pigments and metal oxides, you can give concrete products any shade. The dyes are durable and will not lose their tone during use.

The color of the concrete can be changed by various methods. You can apply a layer of paint to an already finished product or add coloring additives even at the stage of mixing the components.

DIY loft table lamp

You can also make a concrete lamp using milk or juice cartons. The manufacturing principle is the same: fill the mold with concrete and leave room for the cartridge. After a couple of days, remove the packaging and have a chic decoration for your home.

Concrete lamps are creative, fashionable and durable. Interestingly, if you already have cement, such a man-made product will cost you much less than a store-bought lamp. Do not be afraid to dream, fantasize and bring your ideas to life!

A concrete lamp is a stylish loft accessory that will make an apartment unique, especially if it is made by hand. Today, various well-known design brands offer interesting solutions for pendant lights made of concrete. But such items are usually too expensive or difficult to deliver. Therefore, we suggest that you make such a loft pendant lamp out of concrete with your own hands. All you need for this: two plastic bottles (one large, the other smaller), a liquid mixture of cement with sand and water, a small metal tube with an external thread, four wood screws and an electric wire connected to a socket and a light bulb. In fact, there is nothing difficult in making a concrete lamp with your own hands. So let's get started.

Step 1. Drill holes in the caps of both plastic bottles with a diameter equal to that of the metal tube.

Step 2. Cut the large plastic bottle in half using a utility knife and scissors. This will be the main shape, the so-called "matrix" for our concrete lamp.

Step 3. Pass the metal tube through both bottle caps. Use the nuts to secure the bottles onto the tube.

Step 4. Fix the plastic bottles together using wood screws.

Step 5. Prepare a liquid concrete mixture of the desired consistency.

Step 6. Then pour the prepared cement mixture into the resulting mold from two plastic bottles.

Step 7. After the concrete has hardened, unscrew the fixing screws and remove the excess parts of the plastic mold. Sharp corners can be sanded with sandpaper if desired.

Step 8. Insert the electrical cord into the hole in the metal tube that is fixed to the concrete base.

Step 9. Connect one end of the cord to the bulb holder and the other to the electrical plug.

Everything. Our stylish concrete lamp is ready.

We also attach a video with a detailed description of the process of making a luminaire from concrete in English. If you wish, you can experiment with different shapes of plastic bottles and the composition of the concrete mixture.

It turns out that the well-known concrete is not so prosaic as to be a sign of extremely dirty construction projects. This is a very artistic material, from which interesting crafts are obtained in skilled hands.
