Relocation and installation of sockets and switches features. How to make or move sockets in the kitchen during or after renovation. How to move an outlet to a higher mark

Today, a power outage even for a couple of hours can knock out of the established rhythm of life, and the comfort and quality of life in a private house or apartment of a panel high-rise building depends on the convenient location of electrical appliances. At the same time, the transfer of outlets may be necessary during repairs, the purchase of more powerful equipment, the appearance of pets and small children.

To move an outlet with your own hands, you do not need to have the skills of a professional electrician and have special tools. If desired, everything is feasible, simple and affordable. The main thing is to adhere to safety rules when carrying out this kind of work in order to protect yourself from a possible accident, accident.

Preparatory stage. Materials and tools

Before you start transferring the outlet with your own hands, you need to prepare, taking into account some of the features:

  • draw up an approximate diagram of the future location of the power point so that further actions are rational, without unnecessary noise and dust;
  • in order to protect yourself from an accident, and your neighbors from an accident in the power grid, relying on the diagram, select that section of the wall for laying new wiring where there are definitely no hidden wires;
  • indicate the approximate amount of work, then prepare the tool, materials, select the device that is suitable for the requirements.

The task of finding a wiring diagram for apartments in panel houses is simplified by the fact that all the diagrams are standard. You can either independently search the Internet for detailed information about them, or ask an electrician from the staff of the management company. If you plan to move the point in a private house, the wiring diagram of which is unknown, then contact the master with a device to determine hidden wires.

Do-it-yourself transfer of the socket is carried out using the following tools: a punch with an additional crown, chisel, hammer, pliers, screwdriver, probe. First you need to stock up on materials - 2 boxes for installation and distribution of wires, clamps for fastening, electrical tape, plaster. Use gloves for work.

When planning the transfer of outlets in a panel house, it is advisable to stock up on VVGng cable, purchasing it with a margin according to the scheme. Please note that the requirements of GOST and NBP allow wiring to be laid exclusively vertically or horizontally at a distance of more than 20 cm from the ceiling. Laying diagonally is strictly prohibited. The choice of a device depends on the purpose for which it was originally intended. Today, only euro sockets with grounding are installed, for example, from the manufacturers Simon, ABB.

We connect correctly

Regardless of how you will carry out the transfer of the outlet in the room, it is important to connect the wires correctly. The most popular option is twisting, which requires:

  • remove 20-30 mm of insulation from the edge of the wires, carefully clean the exposed veins with fine-grained sandpaper;
  • carefully twist the stripped veins together, without breaking the integrity, without bends or creases;
  • solder the twisting place with lead-tin solder with rosin, it is better not to use acid fluxes for such work;
  • carefully wrap with electrical tape.

To connect a copper core to an aluminum one, the twisting method will have to be abandoned. Here you can use the threaded connection: also strip the wires at the ends of the wiring, carefully bend them and fix them on a galvanized steel washer.

We transfer the device to an adjacent wall

When deciding how to properly move the outlet, you need to understand which method will be optimal:

  • lengthening with a train;
  • lengthening by adding a new one, similar in section;
  • creation of a parallel dedicated line.

The last option is to pull a new wire from the junction box and is considered the most reliable and safe. Such a do-it-yourself transfer of the outlet allows you to bring a separate point to any wall of the apartment, but it requires significant material and time costs. The work is carried out sequentially:

  1. Check if the electricity is turned off on the panel, if not, then de-energize the room.
  2. Open the junction box from which the cable of the point intended for installation is powered, disconnect the wire, dismantle the old device, wiring.
  3. Fill the hole remaining after the dismantled line with stucco.
  4. In accordance with the developed scheme for transferring the socket in the apartment, lay a new strobe. The size of the new groove is calculated depending on the diameter of the wire, taking into account the layer of finishing material 15-20 mm thick. Before punching a strobe with a puncher, it is advisable to mark the wall.
  5. After the groove is ready, lay a wire along it.
  6. At the site of the future device, punch a hole for the installation of a mounting box with a diameter of 60 mm and a depth of 50 mm with a perforator with a special nozzle. Coat the nest made with alabaster or stucco, install the box, wait until the solution dries.
  7. To fix the cable in the groove, dowel-clamps are used, fixing them every 50 cm.
  8. When laying the cores, the end must be brought into the junction box, connected to a new wire by soldering, and fixed on top with electrical tape. It is not recommended to twist the wires, although it is easier and faster, as it can lead to overheating, short circuit.
  9. Pull the other end to the new back box and fix. For a more reliable connection between the wires and the connectors, the cores can be wrapped around the set bolt.
  10. Fill the groove with the new wiring with concrete.

Transfer by lengthening the wiring

It is convenient to create a separate line when the room is in a state of repair, and you can drill the walls with a perforator without fear. If the question is how to move the outlet to another place or install it next to the old one, then you can get by with lengthening the wiring. The peculiarity of this option is that the wire must be pulled through the old outlet in the panel house, picking up a cable of the same cross-section.

The order of work:

  1. De-energize the apartment, using an indicator screwdriver, make sure that there is no current at the terminals.
  2. Remove the cover from the old socket in the apartment, pull the back box out of the hole.
  3. Using a hammer drill, grind a groove from the socket to the installation site of the new device.
  4. Extend the wires, connecting them together by soldering or twisting, fix them at the junction with electrical tape. Additionally, the cable can be hidden in a heat-shrinkable tube for greater reliability.
  5. In place of the old socket, mount a junction box, hiding the connected wires here.
  6. Install the socket, fixing the end of the wiring in the same way as when laying a new line.

Loop as a transfer option

If you need a quick and easy transfer of sockets in a panel house, then you can limit yourself to using a loop. This method consists in the fact that the new device is connected not from a junction box, but from an existing point. It allows you to leave both devices working at the same time, but it is considered the most dangerous, not suitable for powering powerful equipment, such as a washing machine, electric stove, heater. An increased load on the network while using powerful electrical appliances at the same time may cause a short circuit.

An electric cable with a cross section of 2.5 mm2 is used as a loop. A hole in the wall for such a wire can not be channeled, but limited to moving the outlet in a panel house in an open way, hiding it in a cable channel.

When the electric point is connected incorrectly

While relocating power points is not a difficult task, the first attempt may not always be successful. The following symptoms indicate errors:

  • the device heats up during use, sparks;
  • there is no power supply, and devices connected to the network refuse to work;
  • the device does not fit into the socket, for example, it risks falling out with the plug when disconnected.

To eliminate the risk of short circuit, fire or electric shock if any malfunction is detected, the defective product should be turned off, then the entire network should be checked.

How to move an optical outlet

The purpose of optical devices is to connect fiber-optic wires when laying sound, computer networks. Such work is within the competence of employees of specialized companies, but sometimes the question arises of how to move the outlet in the room on your own - during repairs, redevelopment or due to a line break.

Before moving the optical point to a new location, it is also necessary to develop a layout scheme, determine the optimal one, and take into account which devices are planning to be connected. Further work algorithm is as follows:

  • if necessary, dismantle the old point;
  • in accordance with the diagram, mark the place of installation of the new point;
  • lengthen the fiber optic cable, replace the patch cord;
  • lay the wiring to the installation site - in the cable duct, under the skirting board or in the groove;
  • install a new optical outlet;
  • weld electrical wiring with patch cords, securing the junction with a fiber optic sleeve;
  • neatly hide the excess wire in the box;
  • connect devices, check the signal level.

Any owner can handle the transfer of a power point or an entire block of outlets. It is enough just to be patient and not deviate from the instructions, taking into account the safety rules.

Moving an outlet or switch to a different location means removing it and installing it at a distance. Most often they are lowered below. By old standards, the installation height was about 100 cm, and now it is about 30 cm. In addition, the question of how to move the outlet may be associated with the emergence of new technology to create more comfortable living conditions. The work can be done with your own hands by a person who knows the basics of electrical engineering and how to hold a puncher. The transfer is usually done over a short distance.

Moving the socket in the apartment

Incorrect relocation of the outlet can cause the following malfunctions:

  • heat;
  • lack of voltage;
  • poor anchorage;
  • sparking contacts.

Consistent and correct execution of operations will avoid installation errors.

Preparatory work

In preparation, first of all, a diagram is drawn up, the location of the sockets or switches is selected, and the location of the cable is determined. To do this, you need to find out how the hidden wiring is laid. If it was done according to standard projects, then you can find the wires using a special device. Then the amount of work is estimated, and the right tool is selected, if the work is done by hand:

  • puncher;
  • screwdriver, pliers, hammer, chisel, probe.

The following materials are needed:

  • mounting box;
  • cable (VVGng recommended);
  • power socket;
  • dowel clamp, plaster or alabaster, electrical tape.

When choosing a socket, it is necessary to correctly determine which type is needed. Currently, grounded sockets are used. When transferring them, it is necessary to provide for the laying of a ground wire.

Cable routing for the socket

For those who want to lay the cable for sockets and switches with their own hands, there are several possible options. The main one is the laying of new wiring.

Scheme of laying a new cable to the installation site of the outlet

New branch from junction box boxes

  1. disconnecting the power cable in the box;
  2. dismantling the old socket;
  3. routing the new cable to the new installation location.

Extension of the supply wire

This option is the most common, although it is not recommended to use it. If it is absolutely necessary, the wiring is pulled through the old socket to the new outlet. The connection to the additional wire is made in the old junction box, or a new junction box is installed instead. It will not be quite according to the rules, but you can do it. The box should be closed with a lid, with the ability to provide access to it.

It is forbidden to twist wires made of different materials!

If possible, it is better to completely replace the supply wire by laying a new one along the old furrow. If the wiring is done in pipes, the replacement is even easier.

In the apartment, from time to time, you have to rearrange the furniture, while it is necessary to change the location of the sockets. Old sockets can be left disconnected, but they can be reliably masked. In the future, they can be useful for a new permutation.

Adding a new outlet to an old one

In this version, you do not need to remove the old socket and put a junction box in its place. The figure below shows a daisy chain connection when there are two sockets on the same power line. There may be more of them, as far as the cross-section of the supply cable will allow. Sometimes you can simply install a double outlet instead of a single. Connection to light switch sockets is not permitted.

Connection of sockets with a loop

The daisy chain connection is only suitable for low-power energy consumers: portable light sources, irons, TV, vacuum cleaner. For washing machine, boiler, electric stove and pumps, connection is required through a junction box or a separate cable from the circuit breaker of the power panel.

Power outlets

Outlets for heavy loads, for example, electric stoves, require special treatment. They need to be checked more often and replaced if the contacts are burnt or other defects.

The maximum amperage of the device should be 25 A or 32 A. You may need a larger outlet. It is installed outside or wall-mounted.

Relocation of the socket. Video

You can learn about how to independently carry out the transfer of the outlet to another place from the video below.

Moving sockets and switches to a new place should be done in accordance with all the rules. With a phased installation, the work can be done by hand. It is important that the rearrangement complies with electrical safety regulations.

The comfortable use of electrical appliances depends to a large extent on the convenience of the location of the outlets. Often there are situations when, when changing the interior solution, the old layout of the sockets is no longer suitable. The solution to the problem is to move the outlets to a new location.

Technical requirements for the movement of outlets

Reinstalling outlets is not a difficult job. However, any intervention in the electrical system must meet a number of requirements, primarily related to safety:

  1. The outlet is connected only using a VVGng power cable with a cross section of at least 1.5 square millimeters.
  2. According to the conditions of NBP and GOST, it is allowed to lay the cable only vertically or horizontally. Perpendicular, diagonal lines, crossing of wires are not allowed. If the cable is laid horizontally, it is necessary to retreat 200 millimeters from the ceiling and 100 millimeters from the eaves and beams. The vertical lines should be 100 millimeters away from doors and windows, and the corners of rooms.
  3. The sockets are installed at a height of 50-80 centimeters from the floor. Do not place devices closer than 50 centimeters from batteries, steel pipes and gas stoves.
  4. Connections and branches of wires are passed through special boxes or housings of mounting devices.

Before moving the outlets to another place, you need to understand the structure of the junction box, from which the old electrical point is powered. The determining factor is also the metal from which the conductors of old cables are made.

To make the installation easier, it is recommended to draw up a diagram in advance. Planning makes it possible to foresee the most suitable way of installing the socket. According to the scheme, it is possible to install a site where there is no hidden wiring. Ultimately, it is the presence of the scheme that minimizes the cost of financial and labor resources.

Transfer methods

There are two ways in which electrical outlets are transferred without disturbing the finishing material of the walls:

  1. By creating a loop. The method involves the implementation of a jumper from the old electrical point to the new connection section.
  2. By lengthening the wire. Extension of the line in the strobe is supposed.

If the new section is further than the previous one, it is better to perform a full replacement of the entire line. To do this, lay a separate cable near the nearby electrical box. However, laying a new wire involves a full-scale repair intervention.

The loopback option is not the most reliable when it comes to installing three or more power points. If even one section or socket is damaged, the entire circuit will fail, since it is organized in series. In addition, according to the terms of the Electrical Installation Rules, it is impossible to use a loop circuit for organizing power supply of large household appliances (microwave ovens, electric stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, etc.).

It should also be borne in mind that the combination of a pair of sockets with one loop means a sequential transfer of the load from one device to another. As a result, if multiple devices are connected to the jumper-connected sockets, there may not be enough voltage for their operation.

Note! Taking on any electrical work is worth having at least basic knowledge in this matter. A method that worked in one room will not always work in another room. Without reliable knowledge, it will not be easy to determine the reasons for what is happening.

Below we will tell you about the ways to transfer the outlet in more detail.

Shortening the wire

This method is rarely used. Shortening is used when it is possible to move the socket along the electrical wire located at the bottom. For this purpose, remove the old socket, and carefully remove the wire from the wall. After that, remove excess wire and install a new outlet.

An example of shortening is a situation when a cable comes down from the ceiling, and the outlet is 20 centimeters from the floor. Install the new device at a height of 50 cm.

Sequencing:

  1. Remove the socket and socket.
  2. Get the wire out of the groove to the required height.
  3. Drill a hole for a new socket.
  4. Lay the cable into the socket.
  5. Fill up an unnecessary hole for the old socket and grooves.
  6. Install a new socket.

Ways to lengthen the wire

If the room is to be rearranged and there is no socket for household appliances, the wire should be extended. In this case, you will have to gouge the wall from the old electrical outlet to the new one.

The work is done as follows:

  1. Remove the old socket and socket.
  2. Drill a hole for a new socket and cut a groove for it.
  3. Install a new socket, and put a box for twists in place of the old socket.
  4. Extend the cable and pull it to a new point.
  5. Cover the grooves with cement or plaster mortar and mount the socket.

Sometimes the hole for the old socket is completely sealed with mortar. This is wrong, since it is the wire connection sections that usually fail in the electrical circuit. It is recommended to provide an additional box, which, if necessary, can be easily opened without disturbing the finish.

Creating a loop

Rearrangements in an apartment or house are usually performed more than once. And perhaps the old connection point will come in handy in the future, so it is not necessary to dismantle it. However, the socket must be installed in the new location. This method of organizing connections is used quite often. However, it should be understood that the more twists there are from the electric meter to the device, the higher the likelihood of a line failure. It is for this reason that it is undesirable to connect powerful consumers to such lines.

There are other nuances regarding the organization of the loop:

  1. The wires are usually clamped with socket terminals. Separate twists are also acceptable, but in this case there is a problem of excessive waste of space and time.
  2. It is advisable to choose the wire for the new outlet of the same section as for the old one.

The loopback method has one safety advantage: it is designed not just to move the old outlet up or down, but to organize a new point near the old one.

The disadvantage of the loopback system is the horizontal cable routing. By itself, this approach meets technical regulations, but traditional branching involves vertical wiring. In this regard, forgetting about this feature of the loops, home craftsmen will damage the wire in the future.

Selection of materials

The loopback method is also good in that it requires a minimum amount of materials and tools.

A list of everything you need is given below:

  • wire of a suitable section;
  • plastic socket box;
  • hammer drill equipped with a 70 mm crown;
  • indicator screwdriver;
  • a hammer;
  • pliers;
  • flat screwdriver.

Note! It is not at all necessary to place the wire in the strobe. You can lay the wiring in an open way by hiding it in the cable duct.

The socket is selected based on the wall material. If you plan to work with concrete or brick, plastic devices are purchased. For wood and drywall, modifications with spacers are used.

Laying a new line

Making a niche and installing a socket box

Before moving the hidden socket to another area, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. They consist in making a groove for laying a line.

First, the working field is marked, and then a hole is drilled with a crown. If the crowns are not available, you can use a hammer drill with a hammer drill or a grinder. After making the holes, work with a chisel and hammer to remove excess wall material.

When the niche is ready, a "glass" is placed in it. On the back of the glass, a cable is introduced from the junction box.

The socket box is fixed with a plaster solution (if we are talking about a concrete wall). When the mixture sets, the socket is cleaned of gypsum fragments. The inner walls of the device are wiped with pieces of cloth. In walls made of plasterboard or wood, the socket box is installed in a pre-made "glass", and then the product is fixed with side struts (paws).

Connecting a new point

Having picked up the cable of the required length to power the new point, one of its ends is directed to the terminal blocks of the old outlet. The other end is brought to the contacts of the new point. Zero, phase and ground are connected in parallel directly at the contacts of the socket.

To avoid short circuits, each strand of the wire has a separate plastic sheath. When connecting, the insulation must be removed. A crossover knife will help in this task, which allows you to remove the insulating layer without damaging the cores. You need to be very careful to clean the cores from the braid. Since if they are damaged, an emergency situation will soon arise.

When working with a PE conductor, one should take into account the fact that, according to the Electrical Installation Code, it is necessary to maintain its integrity. This requirement is due to the fact that if the earthing switch on one of the outlets breaks, all other devices in the circuit will become ungrounded.

When neutral, phase and grounding wires are connected, it is necessary to fix the working part of the device in the junction box. You should also install a decorative panel.

Connection options

If a wire needs to be lengthened, there are several ways to connect it to another wire. The choice of a particular option depends on the material from which the cores are made, as well as their cross-section and the number of conductors.

Connection with screw terminal blocks

This method is one of the most reliable and has been used for many decades when organizing lines even at industrial facilities. Transitional terminal blocks can be used in two versions, one with spring terminals and the other with terminal blocks.

The spring terminals are equipped with a lever mechanism. The use of spring terminals is permissible for both aluminum and copper wires.

There are numerous terminal block models on the market. Low-quality products are often found. Therefore, when buying, you should pay attention to the quality of the product, its ability to firmly press the cable and resist mechanical pressure when the screws are tightly tightened.

There are disposable pads on sale (they cannot be restored) and reusable spring wagons (multiple disconnection of the contact is possible). It is recommended to choose the pads based on the fact that the diameter of the inlet is the same as the cross-section of the cores. Unlike spring terminals, it is undesirable to use pads for connecting aluminum wires, since this metal is very fragile and can deform during tightening.

Stranding with welding

This method of connecting wires was used everywhere in the past - including when working with aluminum wiring. At the moment, twisting with welding is also used, but it is no longer so relevant, since simpler methods have appeared. The main disadvantage of this technique is the need for special equipment and an experienced welder.

Fixation with plastic caps

In this case, the wiring is connected using PPE (connecting insulating clamps). Plastic caps are made of fireproof material, which excludes fire due to a short circuit in the area where the conductors are connected.

It is convenient to use the caps. They are made in different colors for zero, phase and ground.

The only drawback of the caps is the large number of counterfeits when the product is equipped with a weak internal spring.

Soldering twist

Soldering wiring is considered the best quality option. However, this kind of work requires skill with a soldering iron. If you follow all the technological nuances, the twisting will retain its performance characteristics for decades.

Instructions for creating a twist with solder:

  1. Strip the ends of the cable to provide the required contact area of the side surfaces. It is necessary to leave only the pure metal from which the veins are made. The length of the stripped area is 8-10 centimeters.
  2. Grasp the wire with pliers on both sides and create a tight twist. It is important not to overdo it by tightening the wires, as the wire may break.
  3. Solder the twisted wires with solder with rosin. Important note: acidic fluxes are unacceptable as they will corrode the metal in the future.

Note! Some do-it-yourselfers want to speed up the cooling of the bonded wires after being immersed in cold water. It is categorically impossible to do this, since due to a sharp temperature drop, the metal surface is covered with microcracks, which reduces the quality of the bow.

Terminal blocks Wago

The design of these terminal blocks makes it possible to carry out electrical work efficiently and as quickly as possible. Contact quality is ensured by an internal spring system. Wago terminal blocks have received a European quality certificate and are the preferred method of connecting wires from foreign electricians.

Wago terminal blocks do their job well with network overloads. However, these devices also have a drawback: the contact area does not allow heat transfer well, removing energy through their structure. As a result, if the loads are higher than permissible, heat is transferred to the wires, and this leads to a fire in the insulation. Thus, the use of Wago terminal blocks is permissible only in combination with an automatic machine, which avoids overloads in the local network.

When carrying out electrical work, special attention should be paid to such nuances:

  1. All actions with the wiring are performed only when the line is de-energized. Since the use of electrical tools is necessary, it is better to provide for a temporary input for them with a separate machine. It is recommended that you check the wiring with a probe to ensure there is no current.
  2. Before moving the outlet to another location, locate the old lines so as not to damage the wires when gating the channels.
  3. In panel buildings, it is not allowed to chisel load-bearing structures. In reality, this rule is often violated. If such work is still carried out, it is very important to prevent damage to the reinforcement in the slabs. It is better to refuse from chasing at all and give preference to laying wires under a screed, plaster or drywall sheets.
  4. When the wires are brought into the junction box, an assembly margin of 10-15 centimeters must be taken into account. If you ignore this question, in the future (if necessary changes in the wiring) you will need to build even a high-quality wire, and this will again force you to gut the wall.
  5. Do not create direct contacts between copper and aluminum wires.

If you adhere to these simple rules, it is quite possible to transfer the outlet with your own hands. It is important not to forget about safety measures and try to do the job as efficiently as possible, because not only comfort, but also the safety of residents depends on this.

In order to move the outlet to another place in a panel or brick house, you do not need to be an experienced electrician and have a special tool. There are several simple methods that will allow you to carry out the transfer without destroying the wall decoration - without strobing and dust. You can also make a complete replacement of the line from the junction box, if the new installation site of the product is much further than it was. Next, we will look at simple instructions for electrical work, visual video tutorials and, of course, mistakes that should not be made!

Method # 1 - Using a loop

Probably the most unsafe of all options, because in this case, a jumper is created from the old electrical "point" to the new connection point. As a result, you do not just move the outlet down or up, you just create another one next to it.

The advantage of this method is that as a result you will have a new outlet and at the same time you will be able to leave the old one. In addition, the cost of materials for moving the outlet yourself is minimized.

However, you will get much more disadvantages:

  1. The loop connection is very unreliable and is highly discouraged by the rules of the PUE.
  2. The wire from point to point will be laid horizontally, which is also extremely dangerous (we are used to branching to switches and other accessories only vertically). Due to your forgetfulness, you can accidentally run into an electric shock if, for example, you decide to drill a hole in the wall. To prevent this from happening, we recommend that you do it before moving the outlet.
  3. The current load on the products will increase, because two points will be connected to each other by a single loop. If you connect powerful electrical appliances (for example, an electric stove and a microwave oven) to both sockets, the wiring may fail and, as a result, a short circuit.

You can clearly see the process of connecting the loop in this video instruction:

Using a jumper

By the way, a loop connection can have another significant advantage - the wire does not have to be laid in the wall. You can independently move the outlet in an open way, using. Also, in this case, it is more preferable to use an overhead model of the product, which will allow the transfer to another place without cutting the concrete wall! This option is most often used in order to beautifully transfer the outlet to the cabinet in the kitchen or to the balcony.

Method number 2 - Extension of the wire

The second way to independently move the outlet in the apartment is to simply extend the electrical line to a new strobe. In this case, you will have to destroy the wall, but still this option is more correct than the first one.

The technology looks like this:

This is how you can carry out a simple transfer of a power outlet with a gating to another wall or even to the floor (sometimes this option is also used). We draw your attention to the fact that it is necessary to lengthen the conductor with a cable of exactly the same section and metal of manufacture. If you do not know what the diameter of the old cores is, we recommend that you read the instructions for.

Video tutorial on cable extension

A simpler situation may also arise - the outlet needs to be moved closer to the junction box and the wire will not have to be extended, but shortened. In this case, everything is simpler - we create a new line, shorten the line and carry out the installation of the product.

The main mistake that electricians can make when using this method is that the connection of an elongated wire is laid in the old socket of the socket box and covered with alabaster. It is strictly forbidden to do so, because in this case, access to the connectors will be closed, although they fail more often than a whole section of the power grid!

Method number 3 - Output of a new line

Well, the safest and most reliable method of transferring an electrical outlet is to add a wire from a junction box. In this case, you will have to spend more time and effort, but, as we said, it will be right! In addition, the new branch of the wire will allow you to transfer the product even to the opposite wall.

So, first you will need to turn off the electricity in the house, and then dismantle the old line along with the outlet. The stroba is covered with mortar and a new one is created instead, leading from one wall to another or even to another room through the wall (at your discretion). Then the cable is laid in the created recess, led to a new socket, where it is connected to the core.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated, the only problem is that you will have to destroy the wall decoration yourself, which is not particularly logical after a major overhaul. So we have listed all the most popular methods. We hope that now you know how to move the outlet to another place with your own hands!

Often, due to rearranging furniture, purchasing new electrical equipment or changing the interior design, it is necessary to install an outlet in a new location in the apartment.

Sometimes it is required to change the location of the outlet in height, to protect young children from electric shock, or to comply with the so-called "European standard". Regardless of the distance of the outlet transfer, it will be necessary to carry out a complex of electrical work.

In order not to spend money on the services of a professional electrician, you can move the outlet or switch yourself, and this article will tell you how to do this correctly.

Updating electrical equipment

The word "transfer" can be understood literally: to dismantle the old socket or switch, and install in a new place. Practice shows that long-used electrical equipment, upon visual inspection, turn out to be of little use for further use, so when you transfer the outlet, it is worth updating it.

very old socket Couldn't withstand the loads

It must be remembered that the power supply must be carried out via a three-wire system with the obligatory use of a PE grounding wire, for which a special contact is provided in the connection plug connectors.

Even if there is an old electrical wiring in the wall, you should purchase a socket, preferably a double, installed in one mounting socket, of a new standard, with the expectation of future repairs to the home electrical network.

Required mounting accessory

If the old electrical product is in a satisfactory condition, then there should be no problems with its dismantling and reinstallation, which cannot be said about the socket box - a mounting box into which sockets and switches of a hidden installation type are installed.

It is almost impossible to gouge a reinforced socket out of the wall without damaging it. Therefore, you cannot do without buying a new socket, suitable for a resettable switch or outlet.

Different types of socket boxes

The socket is installed in a hole drilled with a special drill-crown in the wall. It will be a waste of money to buy an expensive tool for a single installation, so you need to borrow a crown and a punch drill from a friend.

Drill bit for socket

If such an opportunity is not foreseen, then you need to make a deepening for the socket using other methods and tools.

You can punch a hole for the socket using this tool

Preparation for the necessary wiring

The most correct option would be to lay the wiring from the nearest junction box to the new socket. For laying electrical wiring of a hidden type of installation, one cannot do without chipping the wall - tricks of a technological groove (shtraba) with a depth sufficient to hide the cable under the plane of the wall surface.

This process is carried out using a specialized scraper tool, which has a dust collector or a branch pipe for connecting a vacuum cleaner.

cutter

If you cannot borrow a cutter, then the cut can be cut using a grinder equipped with a special circular saw designed for cutting concrete.

Less accurate will be the method of hollowing out the punches using a perforator or hand chisel. The task is simplified if you need to move the outlet or switch in height - after dismantling the old wiring, there will be a groove suitable for installing a new cable.

If it is necessary to move the outlet lower, then it will be necessary to do much less work on gouging the stem.

Laying the wiring from the old socket

Since it is very time consuming and dusty to do the punches in a wall (especially a concrete one), there is another solution to the problem of minimizing the amount of this work, which consists in laying a cable from the installation site of the old outlet to a new socket.

Regulatory documents do not prohibit the horizontal laying of electrical wiring, therefore, if you need to shift to the side, you will need to do a much smaller section of the pipe.

The main thing in this case is to avoid oblique or diagonal laying, and to make bends of the furrow only at right angles. Very often, if the quality of the cable in the wall is satisfactory, or for some reason it is not possible to make the striker all the way to the box, the new cable is connected in the old socket, turning it in this way into junction box.

Two ways to connect and use an old socket as a junction box

In this case, the main thing is to provide access to it, like to any other junction box in the apartment.

It is forbidden to cover the wire connection tightly with plaster.

If, for aesthetic reasons, the box lid on the wall is unacceptable, then you can mount it in such a way that it is neatly and discreetly covered with wallpaper, which will provide access in case of emergency.

Practical wiring

The length of the VVGng three-core cable, which will be required to move the outlet, depends on the chosen method of laying and connecting the new wiring.

Repositioning the socket correctly

When making a new shtraba, be sure to make sure that there are no hidden wiring or other communications on its way.

The entire process of transferring an outlet consists of the following steps:

  1. Turning off the power and dismantling the old outlet;
  2. Tricking the punishment according to the planned plan;
  3. Drilling a recess for the socket with its subsequent fixation in the hole made using alabaster solution;
  4. Laying the electrical wiring to the new socket, with its fixation in the striker;
  5. Connection of wires in the junction box;
  6. Installation in a socket box and connection of a new outlet;
  7. Wall sealing and redecoration.

Outcomes

In the above text, a lot of attention is paid to preparatory work, in solving which the answer to the question of how to move the outlet will be the task of connecting the wires in the box and the terminals of the equipment installed in the fixed socket box.

In addition, it must be added that need to photograph passing a new line, so as not to damage the wiring in the future during various works.

Obviously, laying a new cable along a different path, the old wiring, to minimize damage, should be left in the wall forever, but in this case it must be disconnected in the junction box.
