Tile combinations in the bathroom. Fashionable options for laying tiles in the bathroom with design photos and diagrams. What is meant by the design of tiles in the bathroom

A place where you rest in mind and body, where you gain strength in the evening after the last day and find vigor before the start of the day to come.

Some of us spend so much time in the bathroom that we might question the truth about half our lives spent sleeping. And all this time we see not only plumbing, walls and our reflection in the mirror. Wouldn't you like to receive not only benefit, but also aesthetic pleasure, opening the door to the bathroom?

Bathroom tile design: a large selection

You can make the interior more interesting with. A variety of color options, shapes, textures and manufacturers can significantly complicate the purchase. The choice depends on many factors, the most significant of which we will consider in this article.

Design of tiles in a bathroom with a shower: types and features

Regardless of the size of the house or apartment, the format of the bathroom can be different. Someone prefers classic bath procedures with the opportunity to take a bath with foam and aromatic oils. Someone likes a dynamic version of the shower cabin with minimal investment of time and attention. The presence of a shower stall dictates slightly different rules when planning design solutions.

In order to choose the right tiles for the shower, you need to think over the design of the cabin.

1. Harmony of design

If the cabin has sharp geometric lines and the bathroom is small, then restrained tones and soft lighting would be a good option, which can smooth out visual design flaws.

2. Choice of color

The optimal color will be in two combined colors of a close range, one of which should be a little lighter. For small bathrooms, the use of bright and contrasting colors is not recommended.

3. Suitable tiles

The finish used for the cladding inside the shower stall may not be fundamentally different from the one you decide to use in the rest of the bathroom, but it will help to make the interior of the bathroom more interesting if it is in a different shade.

4. Mosaic for edging

The combination of not only colors and shades, but also different textures will enrich the bathroom interior. Using mosaics to frame various elements of the room, you can achieve the desired accents.

5. Lighting

Lighting can be used to enrich any interior. Plus, beautiful lamps can also be an additional decoration.

Tile design in the bathroom in Khrushchev: 4 life hacks

Apartments in Khrushchevs are small, and bathrooms are cramped, so interior solutions require special care and ingenuity.

When planning the future design in such conditions, we are faced with a lot of restrictions - from the compact placement of the necessary plumbing and equipment, and ending with surface finishing. But even in such conditions, it is possible to create a functional and stylish interior.

Tiles of different sizes will make the design more interesting

One of the successful solutions would be to use tiles and in the design. This will favorably emphasize certain areas and corners to bring a sense of order to the interior.

Bright inserts will come in handy

For these purposes, bright inserts from tiles of a different type, the use of various geometric patterns when laying (for example, rhombuses or squares), horizontal and vertical stripes of other colors and shades are also well suited.

Part of the walls can decorate the drawing

Another good move in the design can be the use of inserts with pictures and images in the form of flowers, abstract elements, etc. Be sure to take into account that with such an interior solution, you first need to select the elements with a pattern and only then select the background on which they are will be posted. Otherwise, you run the risk of facing a lot of unpleasant surprises, and the sizes of the combined elements seem to be the least of the problems.

A large mirror will visually increase the space

In the bathroom, a mirror is a must. Symmetrically located lamps on both sides will be an additional decoration.

Many of the above photos of bathrooms, which are very modest in size, prove that limited space is far from a reason to give up.

Tile for a small bathroom: which one to choose

If you decided to combine a bath with a toilet and wondered how to arrange all this space, then return to the beginning of our conversation and remember the stylistic combination. You should not visually separate the toilet area, it is better to give preference to a utilitarian approach and make this room as functional as possible by adding space. Using small tiles will make the interior softer and more balanced, and you can avoid the bulky feeling of the overwhelming walls.

If you decide not to combine the toilet and the bathroom, you should arrange them in a single stylistic solution, or rather, make the toilet a logical continuation of the bath. Although options when these two spaces do not cause any associations about the relationship, they also have a right to exist, but with good taste and a sense of style, compliance with any rules turns into a convention.

In other words, bathroom and toilet tile designs may vary in color. Here, we also allow both a single style in restrained colors and contrasting elements.

Earlier, we have already touched on some aspects of the improvement of modest bathrooms and toilets. And returning to the topic of mosaic, it is worth noting that its variety on the market today can surprise anyone. In addition to size and colors, it has another significant advantage - this type of tile is suitable for finishing not only flat surfaces, but can be easily applied on convex, concave, arched, asymmetrical and other irregularities that you want to bring into your home. ...

Mosaic tiles in a small bathroom can be combined with other options that are much larger in size. If you choose the right colors, then large tiles will be an excellent addition to the general pattern of walls and floors, and will not visually hide the area of the room.

Thinking over the project of the future bathroom, it is necessary to remember that the tile for the walls differs not only from the one that you choose for the floor, but also from the one that you will use in the toilet. If you are dealing with a separate bathroom, then the design of the tile in the toilet becomes a decisive factor in choosing it, since there are not many requirements for the design characteristics. And in the bathroom, more often than not, there is high humidity, so the floor finish must prevent slipping.

But there is a rule that is relevant for wall cladding in the entire bathroom: the tiles for them must be of optimal weight, so that even in an aggressive environment (frequent use of chemically active detergents and cleaning agents against a background of high humidity), she does not want to suddenly fall off at the most unexpected moment.

How to combine tiles in a small bathroom?

If it has a rectangular rather than square shape, then you have the opportunity to independently decide which type of styling to choose - horizontal or vertical. The first option is designed to visually expand the area of the room, and the second (vertical stacking) seems to stretch the space up and, with low ceilings, helps to reduce the feeling of confined space. As a supplement, you can use the corresponding guide from tiles of a different, but similar shade.

For horizontal installation, this guide should be positioned around the perimeter of the room (horizontally). And, as you already guessed, for vertical styling, adding a vertical line will make more sense and effect.

Design by Ekaterina Vladimirova

These options for laying tiles in the bathroom can also be combined: with a horizontal option, it is quite appropriate to use vertical elements similar in shade or inserts with a pattern, and vice versa. Adding accent to the corners of the room, using ornamental tiles, and placing it at eye level will help diversify these methods.

A special layout of tiles in the bathroom will also help to add individuality to the interior, which can give even a standard finish an original look. In addition to the usual option, in which the seams are continuous along the entire perimeter of laying, there is also an option when the tiles are laid diagonally.

Or by the type of brickwork.

These layout options are more complex and time consuming to execute, and a lot of training and experience will be required for accurate and high-quality execution. But with the correct use of these recommendations, the bathroom will delight for many years.

Tiles are the ideal material for decorating a bathroom. It is durable, moisture resistant and easy to clean. With the help of it, you can create original ideas in the interior and hide the imperfections of the room. If you are unsure how to turn a bathroom into a cozy, trendy room, use the examples and tips in this article.

Bathroom design ideas

Replacing the tile in the bathroom is not the most budgetary item for renovation work. Therefore, this is done not so often, but especially carefully. In shape, the tile is most often square or rectangular, and there are many options that differ in size and texture. The standard installation method is a combination of a light bottom and a dark top, separated by a border.

Advice! Try to choose "off-the-shelf products", then you do not have to select different elements separately.

When choosing color combinations, do not forget that bright colors (orange, red, yellow) charge with energy and vigor, and cold ones (green, blue, lilac), on the contrary, soothe.

Combination of tiles and wood finishes

If you want to make a bright bathroom, play with contrast, try to combine yellow and sky blue, red and black, green and gray.

For small baths, it is better to purchase tiles in cold blue and gray tones, measuring 30 x 20, and lay them horizontally. In order not to create the effect of a "well", you cannot lay out the entire wall with a single-color tile. Try, the remaining distance (20-30 cm) to the ceiling, paint with water-based paint or lay out to the level of the bathroom - dark tiles, and light above.

Attention! In rooms with a small area, you cannot use embossed tiles.

If you want to visually increase the height of the ceilings, you must:

  • lay the tiles vertically;
  • use bright friezes;
  • decorative panels, borders, to be laid not below eye level.

An interesting finish for a small bathroom

The classic combination of white and black will never lose its popularity. It will look very impressive if the black tiles are matte and the white glossy.

Tile laying schemes

Methods of laying out and tiling with tiles in the bathroom

Starting renovation in the bathroom, you need to decide how you will lay out the tiles, what area you will cover with it. There are three options for tiling the wall with tiles:

  1. Tiling the entire room.
  2. Facing with tiles to a certain level. Those. the bottom will be tiled, and the top with another coating (wallpaper, water-based paint, plastic panels).
  3. Allocation of tiles to certain functional areas: washbasin, bath, washing machine.

Laying tiles only on the floor

There are many more laying patterns:

  • seam to seam- that is, the tiles are laid in a row, one after another, both horizontally and vertically. In this way, square and rectangular tiles are laid out, and to give aesthetics they are decorated with beautiful borders. You can combine tiles in two different colors. This seam-in-seam technique is called a checkerboard.
  • "Brick layout" or "in a bandage". For this method, rectangular tiles of different shades, laid horizontally, are suitable. In appearance, such a scheme resembles the laying of bricks, i.e. the lower row of tiles is laid with a shift of half a tile, in relation to the upper one. Do not choose tiles in two contrasting colors, this will create an uneven floor effect.

Brick layout

  • diagonal scheme. The tiles are laid at an angle to form a rhombus, but seam to seam in relation to each other.

Diagonal tile laying pattern

  • modular way. For this scheme, you will need tiles of 3 different sizes. Before laying tiles in this way, lay out all the elements on the floor to see the finished drawing, and then transfer them to the wall.

Modular laying method

  • ornamental way. In this case, a certain pattern is laid out from the tiles, for example, a color composition in the center of a plain background.

Ornamental styling method

  • patchwork scheme... For this method, you will need multi-colored tiles that do not repeat with each other in the pattern and do not have a common theme.

  • curb floor... As a rule, for this method, they choose a bright floor tile or mosaic, while part of it goes onto the wall, by 1-2 rows. The rest of the wall is covered with plain tiles in pastel colors.

Curb floor

Attention! This scheme allows you to visually increase the space, but at the same time visually reduces the height of the ceilings.

How to choose bathroom tiles in different styles

The choice of tiles will depend on the choice of the style of the bathroom. The following main directions of design can be distinguished:

  • ... Choose ceramic tiles in pastel soothing colors that imitate marble, complement them with ornate friezes and frescoes.

Classic bathroom

  • Minimalism. This style provides for the rejection of all that is superfluous. Use a combination of no more than 2-3 colors in the interior. For example: brown floors, beige walls and white plumbing. In such a design, borders or stucco moldings do not look appropriate.
  • Country style. The main rule of this trend is the use of tiles that imitate natural materials. For walls, you can buy tiles for stone, and for the floor. The interior should be dominated by brown, green, beige colors.
  • Modern style. The tiles you choose should create a spacious effect and add light to the room. To do this, use light shades, simple lines in patterns, a minimum of decorative elements. You can play with contrast using light walls and dark floors.

Modern bathroom

  • For style, use pastel colors: blue, lilac, coral, cream. You can make a partial division of the wall: first, a medium-sized tile of light colors, and above - wooden panels. Plain tile slabs, decorate with floral borders.
  • High tech. The characteristic difference for this style is the monochrome wall covering and lack of decoration. Basic colors: white, black, beige, brown, silver.

Mosaic in the bathroom

A distinctive feature of tiles is the ability to create colorful panels on the entire wall. Most often, a floral or floral ornament is used for the bathroom. Mosaics create "accent walls" - for example, lay out an original geometric pattern or a colored panel on the side where the bathtub is installed.

Mosaic in the bathroom

It is not necessary to use a mosaic for laying out drawings; lay out the wall with mosaics of different shades: blue, turquoise or green in a chaotic manner. Even a narrow strip of multi-colored pieces will create an unusual and bright look, as well as increase the height of the room.

Using our advice, you can create your own unique design or make it easier for yourself when choosing a ready-made option. As a result, you will get a cozy room that will be beautiful and fashionable, and by choosing the right tiles and installation method, you can hide the room's imperfections and emphasize your own style.

How to lay tiles: video

Laying tiles in the bathroom: photo

Most often, the bathroom is tiled. This material is durable, hygienic and easy to clean. But the cost of such repairs is considerable, therefore they are trying to arrange everything so that the bathroom looks the best way over a long period of time. To solve this problem, they carefully choose a collection, select colors, and a layout method. About what options for laying tiles in the bathroom exist, how they are perceived - in the article.

General principles and rules

Everyone knows that light walls visually make the room more spacious. Nobody is going to argue with this, and this fact is taken into account when choosing options for laying tiles in the bathroom. But there are a few more interesting points, the knowledge of which will help to avoid mistakes when drawing up a layout and choosing a tile color, its location, grout color.

Vertical and horizontal layout

Recently, rectangular tiles are more often laid on the walls. In this case, the first thing to be determined with is to place the tiles horizontally or vertically on the walls. It is believed that the horizontal layout visually makes the room wider, and the vertical one - taller. In fact, on colored, bright tiles, the seams between which are filled with grout of the same or similar color, the difference is very small (in the photo there are a couple of pictures below). In this case, the direction of styling has almost no effect on perception. In this case, you can choose the options for laying tiles in the bathroom based only on your preferences.

This effect is more pronounced when using light tiles with a contrasting grout (top pictures). In this case, the gaze "slides" along the seams, creating the desired visual changes. In this case, the vertical or horizontal layout really affects our perception.

Guide strips

To expand the room or raise the ceiling, when choosing a layout, make vertical or horizontal "guides". These are stripes of tiles of a different color, along which the eye glides. These stripes alter the visual perception of the size of the room.

A lighter horizontal strip, which runs along the perimeter of the room approximately in the middle of the height, visually significantly expands the space. If you add a dark stripe to light walls, no effect is observed. Rather, the room will look at its "own" volume, since the dark stripe neutralizes the visual increase in space due to light colors in the decoration.

If necessary, make the ceiling visually higher; with a vertical layout, you can lay out a strip of lighter tiles on one of the walls (preferably opposite the entrance). Even with bright or dark tiles and grouting to match, the ceiling will "rise". If, on this wall, you use a tile of a lighter tone, and even with a contrasting grout and a vertical strip of tiles with an ornament, the effect will be even more pronounced (in the picture below on the right).

Border

Another way to make the room taller is to place decorative border tiles closer to the ceiling. Being high, they attract attention, while the room appears taller. The border does not have to be done around the perimeter. It is enough to make one wall of a different light shade, place a border at the top. Moreover, this contrasting wall can be darker or lighter.

All these techniques are easy to implement, but they help to correctly lay out the tiles. To visualize what you get, you can use special programs.

Examples of tile layout

In addition to the above examples of layouts, there are tile laying options that can be considered classics, others, on the contrary, have appeared quite recently and, although they often go against many recommendations, they look very good.

Darker bottom

This technique belongs to the classics: the lower third of the wall is made in a darker color, the upper one - a few tones lighter. This method of laying ceramic tiles, to put it mildly, is not at the peak of popularity. It was popular about a decade ago. But there are several tricks that give the classics a modern sound.

With this method of laying tiles, the room seems spacious, since most of the walls are decorated in light shades. In this case, the tiles on the floor are chosen in the same color as the tiles on the lower part of the wall. If you cannot find exactly the same one, they are looking for a very close one in texture and color. In its "pure" form, this method of laying tiles does not look very modern.

To make this bathroom tile look more modern, you can add vertical or horizontal stripes that break up the monotonous decor. Many collections offer not only darker and lighter tile options, but also decor of different sizes, from which stripes of different widths are formed.

More often they combine not two, but three types of tiles: two monochromatic and a decor that combines both primary colors. Decorative elements can be of different widths. Then you can make strips or columns of different widths from them. So that the upper part is not so monotonous and boring, thin stripes of the same color as the lower part of the wall are added, and a vegetable or floral border is added at the bottom.

Most factories produce collections in which there are two basic tile colors - darker and lighter - and a set of decorative elements. Such collections are usually not cheap, but it is easier to compose a competent composition from them, and they are suitable in size, so there will be no problems with styling and fitting.

Accent wall

If the division of the walls by height does not appeal to you, but the monochromatic design inspires discouragement, you can consider the option with an accent wall. Most often, it is decorated with tiles of the same color, but in a different shade - several tones lighter or darker than the main one.

In this case, not one wall is trimmed with brown tiles, but it also enters a part of the neighboring one. This technique is suitable for narrow long rooms - it visually makes the room look more like a square.

The accent wall does not need to be the same size tiles. One wall trimmed with mosaics or small-format tiles looks great.

The mosaic looks great both on its own and in combination with tiles of different formats - square, rectangular, large and medium. It is used for finishing curved surfaces - due to its structure, it fits even columns with a small radius.

Floral motives

Recent trends in design have led to the fact that most of the bathroom tiles are made in solid colors. Many collections are distinguished by an interesting texture, but they are made in the form of monochromatic fragments. Not everyone likes this design - the interior turns out to be too "cold". You can add fantasy with tiles with flowers or butterflies, floral or geometric motifs.

But with this type of decor you have to be careful: it is too easy to "overdo it", especially in a small volume. But even a few single fragments do not look good either. So it is advisable to work with floral decor in programs that give a three-dimensional picture - it will be easier to imagine what you actually get.

Laying tiles on the floor

In addition, in order to choose the options for laying tiles on the walls in the bathroom, you need to decide how to decorate the floor.

When using a square tile, it is usually laid in the form of a checkerboard (checker pattern), a 1/2 tile offset method can be used. There are two directions of installation - parallel to the walls and diagonally.

If a rectangular tile is selected, there are more layout options - with an offset (deck, braid, herringbone).

There are also options for combining rectangular and square tiles - a labyrinth, if methods using fragments of different sizes.

It makes sense to implement all more or less complex schemes in large rooms - here unusual compositions can be appreciated at their true worth. In small bathrooms, the simplest schemes are most often chosen - usually only a few tiles fit, so there is simply no point in complicating the work.

More options

In the bathroom, decorative tiles are often used as the most practical, economical, inexpensive material with a huge selection of colors, textures and shapes. It can be used both on the floor and for wall decoration. With the help of this finishing material, you can create any design, depending on the style that you want to implement.

Today, there is a layout of tiles in the bathroom in a large number of different options. Experienced craftsmen know many ways. But most often 3-4 are used. In the article, we will figure out what are the ways to lay out tiles in the bathroom, what are their advantages and weaknesses, what design they allow for.

Pros of using tiles in the bathroom

Why do most bathroom owners prefer to decorate these rooms with ceramic tiles:

  • The material is very practical. Horizontal and vertical tiles are moisture resistant, serve for a long time, and are easy to clean.
  • A large selection of colors, sizes, textures allows you to experiment with design, finding the right combination of shades, to implement any decor ideas, even in a small bathroom. For example, the design with black and white tiles in the form of a chess board is very popular.
  • The many options for the layout of the tiles make it possible to combine different colors, thus achieving the individuality of the room, making it an original, author's work. There is an individual layout scheme for each bathroom interior.

Variants

What are the most popular layouts of tile and ceramic material in the bathroom on the floor and walls today:

Standard no offset

This is the most popular layout plan. In Soviet times, all bathrooms in new buildings were decorated in this way, therefore, for many, this layout causes an instinctive visual rejection. Her example in that performance can be observed to this day in the apartments of the elderly. However, if it is carried out using large tiles, then the standard layout without displacement looks quite stylish and original.

Diamond laying

Or diagonal. Also a very common layout. Peculiarities:

  • Creates a very interesting visual effect, looks stylish. With its help, the most original and stylish designs are obtained. Gives the room depth, design - sharpness.
  • A rather laborious option, therefore, only an experienced master finisher can carry out such a layout. Requires careful calculations and neat cutting of the material. In terms of labor costs, it is comparable to laying a mosaic.

Wall panel

This scheme is a classic of the genre, when the lower third of the wall is laid out with dark tiles, and the upper two-thirds are lighter. The junction of tiles of different colors is usually still decorated with a contrasting border to match, it is also possible from a mosaic. Often this method of decorating bathrooms can be seen, as an example, in various public institutions. These methods can be used for your own bathroom, but it gives the bathroom a little rigor and formality.

Features and rules:

  • This layout design makes the room lower while expanding it. The floor plan should be carefully examined.
  • In this case, the floor can either coincide with the walls, or be completely contrasting with them. Each design is interesting in its own way.
  • In some variations, you can see a combination of a light bottom and a dark top. However, such a tile layout in the bathroom lowers the level of the ceiling, therefore it is suitable for narrow and high rooms. And in most of our standard apartments, small and not too high bathrooms are still more common.
  • The border on the walls of the bathroom can be made either as a narrow strip or as a fairly wide independent section, tiled in several rows. In addition, there may well be several of these strips, especially if they are narrow. Just do not forget that each of them will make the room lower a little more.

With border

In this version of the layout, the tiles that are laid out on the floor continue on the wall. But not completely on the entire wall, but 2-3 rows above the floor. Above, it is desirable to make a tile of a different shade, most often lighter. Such a layout plan will make the design of the room lower and wider.

Fragments with emphasis

A very popular layout plan today. But such options for laying out tiles in the bathroom are only suitable for a decent-sized room. In a small room, contrasting accents can create a visual imbalance that looks disharmonious.

  • If you decide to choose such a bathroom tile layout project, then you should know that you do not need to focus on more than 2-3 parts of the bathroom. A perfect example of a layout when accents are made in the washbasin, heated towel rail and shower areas. Or in another similar version.
  • If you do not want to increase the height of the ceiling, then you should not start the accent section directly from the floor, but it is better to do it at some distance. It is also not necessary in this case to bring the accent to the ceiling.
  • You can make accents using mosaics.
  • On the floor, this layout plan does not apply. Accents made on the floor look ridiculous and inappropriate.

Equality of colors

In this case, several colors are taken - contrasting or similar, usually 2-3 shades and they are used to decorate the bathroom walls. In this case, the colors should not be mixed. One wall is laid out in one color, the second in another, etc. It is imperative to choose a harmonious combination of colors. Peculiarities:

  • Thus, you can visually clearly divide the functional areas in the bathroom. For example, highlight the area near the washbasin in red, and trim the area near the shower room with black tiles. In this case, the layout can be both horizontal and vertical.
  • In this case, the floors are finished with tiles of the same colors, but at the same time they can be mixed. For example, it would be great to use a checkerboard layout for the floor.
  • This design does not look good in a small bathroom, as it will visually make the room narrow and small.

One of the most popular finishing materials for bathrooms and toilet rooms today is ceramic tiles.

The optimal combination of practicality and aesthetics was to the taste of most connoisseurs of comfort and home coziness.

With the help of a competent combination of colors and elements of tiled decor, any bathroom can be made stylish, original and visually more spacious.

Ceramic tiles will help hide certain imperfections in the room and contribute to complete relaxation after a weekday.

Methods for finishing with ceramic tiles

Before choosing a tile layout option, you should evaluate the area of the bathroom, the height of the ceiling and the presence of deficiencies that it is desirable to correct.

Among the existing cladding methods, the following are worth highlighting:

Following the example of a wall panel. This is a traditional layout that illusoryly expands the space and lowers the ceiling.

The bottom line is as follows: first, dark tiles are laid out from the floor, about 1/3 of the wall height, then the cladding continues with a lighter shade.

The junction of dark and light tiles is decorated with a ceramic border. The floors can be the same color as the bottom of the wall, or darker.

An example can be used as an interpretation of this option, when a dark tile is laid out on top, and a light one on the bottom.

Sometimes contrasting tiles are laid not from the floor, but closer to the middle of the wall height, but this method is only suitable for rooms with high ceilings.

Layout with horizontal lines. A method in which contrasting stripes are laid out on a light background. They can be narrow - from decorative elements, or wide - from several tiles.

Illusory, these lines make the room more voluminous and create a sense of coherence.

Facing with vertical lines. This option visually narrows the bathroom, but gives the impression of higher ceilings. Like horizontal stripes, stripes can be narrow and wide, singular or plural.

In modern design, multilevel lines are increasingly common.

Floor curb. An elementary version of the layout, in which the tiles from the floor, "come" on the wall by about 1 - 2 pieces in height. Visually, this example increases the volume a little, but takes the height.

Accent elements. One of the most popular layout methods. The bottom line is that on a general, usually light, background, attention is focused on bright elements in certain functional areas.

It can be a tile of a contrasting color, or with a decorative pattern, or a ceramic panel. But you should not get carried away with accents, even in the most spacious bathroom it is not recommended to use more than 3 fragments.

Equal use of several colors. In this version, tiles of different colors are not mixed, and each color decorates a certain area. In this case, it is allowed to decorate the floors with several mixed colors used (for example, like a checkerboard).

Kaleidoscope style cladding. Especially suitable for creative people. The tiles in this version are used in different colors, which alternate in an arbitrary or specific order.

"Spray". The general background is formed from a monochromatic, usually light, tiles, then randomly arranged tiles of a contrasting color are added. The method is only suitable for spacious bathrooms.

Laying out geometric shapes or patterns with ceramic tiles. This option is not recommended for use in cramped rooms.

A combination of several options at the same time. For example, the wall panel method and accent elements or tiered vertical stripes work well. The more spacious the room, the more combinations you can apply.

Special attention should be paid to the "screen" for the bathroom. It should be decorated in the same style as the whole room, or become an accent element.

The most important thing is that the resulting cladding result makes the room more comfortable, stylish and eye-catching.

Photo ideas for the layout of tiles in the bathroom

November 2016

In every house, the bathroom is a room for hygiene procedures. And for many, it is also a place where you can be alone with yourself, arrange relaxation or spa treatments. That is why the design in it should be, first of all, comfortable, as well as simple and sophisticated.

Bathroom tiles are not new. At the same time, with the help of this material, you can decorate the room in a very bold and original way, and completely without sacrificing square meters. Everyone can be convinced of this by looking at the photo of the bathroom decoration with tiles.

Benefits of tile

Bathroom finishes require care and attention. Compared to the repair of other rooms in your house, the repair of the hygiene room should be done so that it is beautiful, cozy and comfortable, and all the nuances and subtleties should be thought out, since in such a room, as a rule:

  • high humidity levels;
  • higher temperatures;
  • various cleaning and abrasive detergents are used.

In such a room, a specific microclimate reigns and there is a considerable likelihood for the multiplication of fungi and bacteria, which are very harmful to the human body! This is especially true for small children, who, as a rule, are very fond of nibbling or licking some surfaces.

You can avoid "troubles". To do this, it is necessary to think over the design of the bathroom design with tiles so that it does not deteriorate over time, as well as constantly (regularly) maintain the cleanliness of the hygiene room.

It can be concluded that the material for finishing the bathroom should definitely have some qualities, namely:

  • resistant to high levels of humidity.
  • resistant to regular temperature changes.
  • hygienic.
  • safe from an environmental point of view.
  • easy enough to wash and clean.

Today there are a large number of ceramic tile manufacturers. Each of them offers a very wide range of finishing materials for both the ceiling and the walls of the bathroom. Also, you can choose wallpaper with a high degree of moisture resistance, or maybe plastic panels, drywall or special plaster for decorating the ceiling and walls.

But for the decoration of bathrooms, it is the tiles that have won the trust of most people. This material has been used for more than a dozen years!

Features of bathroom tiles

  • Price. Due to the fact that the material is produced on huge production areas and in a very wide assortment, everyone will be able to choose for themselves exactly the option that suits them best or suits the price. Even with a limited amount of money for the purchase of material, you will find exactly what you need, in an excellent price-quality ratio.
  • The tile is a hypoallergenic material, completely non-toxic. During the production process, the material lends itself to burning. It is at this moment that any toxins or allergens are destroyed. Therefore, you can rest assured that even with prolonged contact with the material, there will be no allergic reactions.
  • In addition, when a tile is produced, no harmful substances are released from it, since it is an ecological material. Accordingly, no environmental pollution occurs either.
  • The finishing material is produced under the influence of high temperatures. Of course, any microflora is simply killed during production. Accordingly, if there are tiles on the floor and walls in the bathroom, there will be the lowest chance for the growth of bacteria and fungi, in comparison with other finishing materials.

There is only a nuance in the fact that mold and mildew can form at the joints between the tiles. This is due to the fact that the walls in houses or apartments are not treated with anything. In order to avoid such formations in the future, it is worth using a special antifungal composition for laying the plates.

What is the advantage of tiles?

  • Tiled slabs are moisture resistant. In addition, they do not lose their original appearance even over the years (all the more, with proper care!), And if the joints are properly sealed when laying, then the chances will be zero for flooding their premises or, worse, neighbors from below.
  • Bathroom tiles are very easy to clean and clean. She is absolutely not afraid of cleaning and detergents. Thanks to the special coating on it, it is very easy to remove any dirt or grease stains. In addition, this material practically does not attract dust. That is why it is used for finishing work and in the kitchen.

  • If you correctly and efficiently lay the tiles, they will serve you for many decades! Most likely you will want to change it, for which there are such reasons as: tired or outdated design, boring, etc., rather than it will fail and become unusable.
  • This material is very durable. It performs a protective function against damage to the appearance, for example, during rearrangement and movement of furniture, from scratches and other small defects of mechanical impact.
  • Due to the high degree of strength, the tiles are able to withstand heavy loads (weight, pressure). For example, the same cast iron bath!
  • Also, the material is fireproof. After all, tiles are not flammable and can even prevent the spread of flame! Therefore, in the kitchen, such material is also very often used for finishing the apron.

In the event of a fire in an apartment, a tiled bathtub is the safest place!

Our 2016 collection of bathroom tiles will allow you to display real masterpieces of creative art, as well as make your old dream of arranging a comfortable and stylish hygiene room a reality.

If we compare the price range of different materials, it can be noted that tile is the most inexpensive material for bathroom design, compared to stone, glass and porcelain stoneware, which can also be used for a bathroom.

Ceramic tiles

Ceramic slabs are the cheapest and most common bathroom cladding material. She has a relatively low price level. It is made of clay and sand, and the upper part is covered with glaze, due to which the material takes on a variety of designs with textures, flowers or ornaments.

As a rule, such main types of ceramics are distinguished as:

  • Sprayed;
  • Matte;
  • Glossy.

In special catalogs, you can view a wide variety of photos of bathroom decoration with ceramic tiles.

You can pay attention that when creating designs, only one type of tiles is not always used. They can also be combined with each other, using two or three different types - this design will look great. The main thing is to choose an original color combination.

Porcelain stoneware

This type of tiles is very similar in composition to porcelain, but at the same time, it resembles a stone. The peculiarity of such a material is its inability to absorb moisture and liquid. Accordingly, he is absolutely not afraid of water ingress or temperature changes. It is for these reasons that it is often used for outdoor cladding.

In ceramic granite, the structure is very similar to that of stone. To a lesser extent, it is exposed to cracks, chips and mechanical damage. This is a great option for decorating the floor, since porcelain stoneware is a very durable material.

Stone tile

Such material is wonderful and, moreover, environmentally friendly and natural. Stone bathroom tiles 2016 are already much more affordable compared to the old days when they were a very expensive material.

Due to the fact that it has a peculiar structure, designers can create completely unique designs for bathroom cladding.

But it also has disadvantages. Namely, the stone is only to some extent able to withstand mechanical damage. And it can also become covered with very small cracks. Due to the fact that stone slabs are not subjected to such processing, for example, as tiled, the risk of the growth of fungi and bacteria in them is much greater.

Glass tile

If you are determined to create a futuristic style for your bathroom, then the ideal option for cladding a room is glass tiles. She can decorate not only walls, but also completely decorate the floor. The glass used for decoration can be transparent or colored, as well as glossy or frosted, smooth or textured.

With the help of glass tiles, you can make partitions in the bathroom, and quite stylish! Alternatively, you can also mask additional lighting with it.

But do not use such material to try to "hide" pipes, meters, valves, etc.

Choosing the size of the tiles

Even in spite of the fact that the color range of grout for sealing joints between laid tiles is presented in a fairly wide range, it will not be possible to make them completely invisible in any case, no matter how hard you try. And that is why the size of the tiles chosen for the finishing work of the bathroom is of great importance.

Standard tiles

This material has a size of 20 x 30 cm. Its best design is for large to medium sized bathrooms, since the frequency of seams will not show up too much. In addition, if you lay the tiles in a vertical or horizontal way, you can visually make the room wider, or make the ceilings higher.

Large slabs

If the size of one tile exceeds 25 x 40 cm, it is considered already large. Often, such slabs are used for laying floors, in more rare cases, on walls. If you prefer large plates, use them when you have a large bathroom. Or you can use it to decorate some elements. But only if it will be combined with smaller tiles.

It is best to choose tiles that do not need to be cut.

Mosaic

It is also called fine tiles. Using such a material, it is very easy to make adjustments even if the surface of the walls or floors is not perfectly flat. But its disadvantage is that it can visually reduce the size of the room. For this reason, you can combine it with medium sized tiles.

Tile and house type

Let's consider the main types of houses and what kind of tiles you need to select for finishing work.

Khrushchev

As a rule, in houses of this type there is a combined bath and toilet, in which there is very little space (up to three square meters). For a small bathroom, it is best to choose a medium-sized tile. Also, choose it light and without patterns, especially large ones.

You can visually raise the ceilings in a small room by combining two tile colors: at the top - lighter, at the bottom - darker.

Panel house

As a rule, the bathroom is separate. In the washroom, you can use the same finishes as in the bathroom, and you can also create contrast. Here already - as you like it more. But as for the size of the slabs, it is advisable to choose the same for both rooms. In this case, they will be in harmony with each other!

Private house

If you had an individual plan for construction, it means that you yourself foresaw exactly what dimensions your bathroom and other premises will be. For hygiene procedures, the room can be arranged very comfortable, light and cozy. Here you can use large-sized tiles, and, at all, without causing any damage to the square meters of the room.

The bathroom floor is best made of porcelain stoneware tiles, since temperature changes can occur both inside and outside the room.

Small bathroom tiles

  • Decorating walls in a small room will be great with medium tiles. After all, it is completely bulky and will not ruffle with joints (and, in a large number of them), compared to "small" material. In this case, you can apply mosaic as well, but as separate elements of interior decoration.
  • Since the bathroom should be comfortable and cozy, do not use cold shades of finishing materials in it!
  • If the room is small, it is best to choose tiles in light warm colors. If you use dark colors, they will visually reduce an already small room. To make accents, you can choose small elements with pictures.
  • Raise the height of the ceilings visually. To do this, you need to lay the tiles in a vertical way. As for the floor, it is best to lay the material horizontally on it.
  • If you use embossed tiles, they can clutter up the space, so if the bathroom is small, install smooth glazed tiles. Matte tiles also look very original. In addition, there is less limescale visible on it, which appears over time from water. But again, such material will reduce the room.
It will help a lot to increase the space - mirror tiles for facing work.
  • It is best not to make niches with tiles. For them, use other methods and materials.

Choice of color scheme

The most important rule when choosing the color scheme of the slabs is the lighting of your bathroom. After all, the dimmer it is, the lighter the wall decoration should be.

White

Very classy. But for some people it is associated with a hospital, and therefore the bathroom can become completely uncomfortable. In addition, the white color is very easily soiled, it must be constantly monitored and regularly kept clean.

If we consider the interior design in white from the other side, then with the right furniture and bright original accents, your bathroom can become the most sophisticated!

Blue

Like blue, it is the color of water. Therefore, it is often used to decorate the interior of a hygiene room.

The original idea is to equip the bathroom in blue tones, with a nautical theme. For which some decorative design is required (even shells, fish, etc. will do). Of course, manufacturers of finishing materials always take this into account. Therefore, in each collection you can always find something suitable for your interior!

Green

This is a great analogue to blue or cyan. Green is a calm and measured color that gives harmony. If the decoration in plain green seems boring to you, you can hang a curtain in the bathroom, for example, with frogs. Then the interior will be much more mischievous and fun!

Other color options

Tiles in colors are often used. For example, if your hygiene room is decorated in purple shades, the tiles can be in violets or lavender. A very original combination of pistachio or peach with violet.

Yellow as well as orange add warmth to any bathroom. Even if there is a terrible frost outside, you definitely will not be able to freeze in a yellow or orange bathroom!

For young girls - a great option for a pink bathroom.

For confident and impetuous men, the design of the bathroom in black or red will be perfect.

DIY bathroom

If we consider such an option as hiring workers to lay tiles in the bathroom, then this pleasure is far from the cheapest.

But if you have a great desire, you can do everything by your own efforts. The main thing is to know and remember the main points:

  • The surface must be very thoroughly cleaned before laying the tiles.
  • The floor can be leveled. But it's best to make a very small corner in the center of the room. Since there is always a possibility of water leakage in the bathroom, and it is much easier to "remove" it from the center of the room than, for example, it is inconvenient to get behind the bathtub.
  • Prepare the adhesion solution (glue, etc.) strictly according to the instructions offered to it. And it must be applied in a very thin layer.
  • When laying the slabs, put plastic crosses between them. This is necessary for the same seams.
  • Start spreading the material from the corner opposite the front door.
  • If you first mark the wall, you can independently make a miscalculation of those places where it will be necessary to cut the slabs and lay out the very bottom row in pieces. But lay the upper rows with whole plates!
