Do-it-yourself garden furniture from logs. How to make a sturdy log table with your own hands. Fantasies on the topic: how to make a table of logs with the least amount of time, effort and money

Since this is furniture from waste, for obvious reasons, the most painstaking work is the selection process of the material, which will need to be combined not only in size, but also in color and surface texture. Also, in the process of assembling log furniture with your own hands, quite a lot of time is spent on performing operations to connect parts (structural elements). You will learn more about the production process below using the example of making the back of a homemade bed from logs.

§ How wood is selected. Important point!

Trees exist wherever a person lives, unless, of course, it is a desert or steppe. There will always be some plant maintenance firms, energy companies, farms, construction sites clearing land for plantings, and, of course, landfills. Also, do not forget about the forest washed ashore. In order for log furniture to be of high quality and durable, you should carefully choose wood. It is not necessary to take timber with traces of damage by woodworms; the whole bark should be peeled off on the spot, since various insects can live in it, the appearance of which in the workshop is undesirable.

After the selection of the base material, the production of structural particles, for example, the back log cabin bed takes only a couple of hours. First you need to cut out the racks, horizontal strapping, as well as the balusters of the bed headboards. After that, with a metal brush, you need to remove all dirt, as well as roughness from the surface of the workpieces. Then the balusters and strappings are equipped with spikes cut on a special tool. The electric planer must be fixed on a loop so that it hangs over the part itself. The part is clamped on the lathe bed. The length of the spikes of the strapping should be 5 cm, and the spikes of the balusters - 4 cm.

After that, with a two-handed electric drill with a Forstner drill, you need to drill sockets for spikes in the legs and harnesses. The peculiarity of this operation is that, unlike bars and boards, which have one or another standard size, all logs are different and the nests in them must be selected one at a time, carefully fitting them to the mating parts each time.

Final assembly of the product. Dry assembly, gluing log furniture, as well as the installation of clamps, are similar to ordinary carpentry operations. Although there is one caveat. After smearing the nests with catalyzed gap-filling glue (mostly casein glue with transverse intermolecular bonds is used) and assembling the structure, take the back by the horizontal straps and hit the back strongly with the leg on the floor. Only after this operation can we assume that the spikes are firmly seated and take hold of the clamps.

Particular attention needs to be paid finishing log furniture. Wood is sanded with an abrasive of 80 microns, cedar is sometimes sanded with an abrasive of 120 microns, and maple butcher logs, as well as sawn beams from recycled materials, get 220 micrometer emery. Wood stain is not pickled and thus retains its natural warmth and reliability. For even more furniture durability from waste, logs are covered with several (mostly two) layers of polyurethane. On chairs and tables made from sawn beams, as well as maple butcher logs, a couple of layers of teak oil are applied with intermediate polishing of each of the layers, wax (paraffin) "briwoks" and then rubbed with a leather circle to a perfect shine.

There are enough firms and individual craftsmen on the market who are engaged in the manufacture of such furniture. It is eco-friendly, practical and very beautiful, looks great in any interior. It can be bought from a ready-made sample or ordered according to your own preference. Approximate prices: chairs and armchairs made of logs - from $100, cabinets and chests of drawers - from $110, log beds - from $280, tables with benches - from $220. The cost depends on the type of wood used, its quality, the amount of consumable materials, the amount of work and the complexity of the design. Therefore, the price can vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer.

In addition to furniture, you can also make your own house from waste. The trend towards the maximum use of woodworking waste is especially relevant in our time. After all, this applies to natural materials and natural resources that are reproduced for a long time.

It is rare that someone buys logs initially in order to make a table. Usually, the material remains from other construction, for example, baths or gazebos. Therefore, a country table made of logs is always original, because its dimensions and design are dictated by the quantity and type of remaining raw materials, and it looks different in each area.

It is not difficult to make a table from logs, both simple and rounded, with your own hands.

But, before you get started, you need to make sure that you have everything you need at hand. Here's what you'll need:

  • stain, impregnation for wood;
  • plane;
  • epoxy adhesive;
  • drill;
  • axe;
  • hammer;
  • nails and screws;
  • sandpaper, the largest;
  • reinforcement, in the form of rods, about 15-20 cm in length;
  • saw, both simple and chainsaw;
  • bit;
  • brushes;
  • varnish for wood surfaces.

Mordant, or some kind of impregnation is necessary, because their use will etch bugs, larvae, fungus from the tree and, in the future, prevent decay.

The preparatory process, as a result of which a log table will appear on the site, includes two main stages:

  • the very first thing is to clearly imagine the future design and calculate whether there is enough building material for its implementation, for which you need to make a drawing;
  • the second is the processing of logs, sawing them into pieces of the desired length and shape, cleaning from the bark, if necessary, and obligatory impregnation on all sides with a special agent.

Mounting

The assembly of the table, both from rounded logs and from ordinary logs, primarily depends on what kind of furniture they are planning to make. But, in any case, there are several main points that are the same for both complex designs and for very elementary simple tables.

  • Drilling holes for reinforcing bars - in the log that serves as the basis for future furniture, that is, in the lowest one, the holes should not be through. There will be enough depth of half the thickness of the part, but in all the following elements they should be through.
  • All holes should be 30 cm apart, this is the most optimal distance that will ensure the strength of the entire structure.
  • All drilled holes must be tightly filled with epoxy so that the rods do not dangle in them.
  • The places where the parts are attached to each other should be well aligned, and not too deep, ideally within 5-6 cm, this will prevent possible cracks during further use of the furniture.

How to make your own table?

A log table made by oneself will serve for a very long time and will become a real reason to sit on a warm summer evening in nature, drink tea, talk, or vice versa, enjoy peace and quiet.

The type of logs from which it can be made is not of fundamental importance, but it is much easier to design from round logs than from saw cuts covered with bark. However, this is a matter of taste and individual vision of your own garden interior, although ensembles of a bath, gazebo, dog house, well, house and garden table made in the same style and from the same material look very impressive.

Making such a table from logs with your own hands is very simple. All work will be as follows:

  • Decide on the size, based on the available materials and taking into account the place where the furniture will be located.
  • Make the most detailed drawing indicating the dimensions, for which you need to make all the necessary measurements. This will greatly simplify the work itself.
  • Choose logs for the legs, make cuts of the length determined by the project, cut out the angles with an inclination on those parts on which they are provided, give the saw cuts the chosen decorative shape and work with stain.

Important: at this stage, when processing parts, they should be numbered, as well as the numbering of each log should be on the drawing. This approach will greatly simplify and speed up the assembly.

  • Saw along the logs intended for the countertop and the supporting bar, also impregnate them with some kind of agent, and carefully sand the details of the future surface.

  • On all the details, cut out and align the places of future fasteners. For convenience, they can be marked with a marker directly on the material.
  • Prepare rebar or threaded rods. Each leg will have two metal rods, slightly longer than the height of the structure itself.
  • Drill holes for reinforcing fasteners, the diameter of which should not be much wider than the rods themselves, and the lower parts cannot be drilled through.
  • Pour glue into the lower grooves, insert the rods and leave everything to dry. After the glue has dried, you need to try to shake the reinforcement to make sure that the fasteners are tight. Next, you should gradually string the remaining parts, allowing the glue to dry.
  • While the structure dries and is assembled, you can prepare everything you need for the countertop.
  • Parts determined under the surface can be nailed, they can also be fixed on the reinforcement, if a decent piece of it remains on top. When choosing the method of mounting the “face” of the table using self-tapping screws or nails, the protruding pins of the rods must be cut off.
  • You can additionally fasten the details of the tabletop from below with slats.
  • In conclusion, the finished own table must be varnished.

The countertop deserves special attention. Its appearance depends solely on the imagination of the master and can be absolutely anything, not only in form, but also in content. For example, you can use fragments of ceramic tiles and lay out a mosaic. Fight tiles are sold for mere pennies in any major hardware store. However, in addition to tiles, you can use any materials.

For example, to make a decorative panel from everything that comes to hand, and close the resulting picture with glass, be sure to fix it at the junction with the tree with glue.

Or lay out a picture of dry leaves, closed on top with a glass panel for countertops. There are no restrictions in the design of the front of the table, except, perhaps, practical expediency and the availability of free time for creativity.

There is nothing difficult in how to make a table with your own hands, for this you only need your own desire and quite a bit of patience and effort.

Of course, garden furniture can be made with your own hands not only from logs, but also from almost everything that comes to hand. But, made from the materials left after construction on the site, the table will solve the problem of recycling scraps and, with the correct study of all the details, will last for decades, while being permanently permanently in the garden.

Nowadays, furniture manufacturers use a fairly wide range of various materials, which significantly expands the choice of furniture designs. Glass, plastic, metal furniture for residential premises wins the love of the consumer. But there is still a high demand for naturalness, environmental friendliness and naturalness, that is, for wooden interior items. This is what log furniture is, which is very popular lately.

Today, like centuries ago, people are trying to choose the most reliable, safe and beautiful furniture for living quarters. Many new synthetic materials, decorative techniques and specific mechanisms have been invented that are used in furniture production. But natural wood is also highly valued. Most often, such species as oak, beech, walnut, birch, pine, alder, acacia, cherry, mahogany are used to create furniture.

Log furniture is considered an elite acquisition, because it has a large number of positive qualities:

  • high aesthetics - wooden surfaces have a luxurious look, unique texture and pattern. With their help, designers create truly "royal" interiors in ordinary city apartments and country houses. Wood goes well with many other materials: glass, metal, stone. We also note that the color schemes of natural wood are very diverse, which allows you to choose an option for any style of interior;
  • ecological cleanliness, naturalness, pleasant aroma. Logs do not contain unsafe substances in their composition, so wooden interior items are not capable of provoking the development of allergic reactions, poisoning and other health problems in humans or pets. Species such as pine, spruce, fir have a positive effect on people with diseases of the respiratory system;
  • durability - natural wood demonstrates high strength, resistance to many negative environmental factors, therefore it serves for a long time without changing performance;
  • easy care - solid wood is undemanding in care, so it retains its original beauty for a long time. And if during the operation a scratch or chip appeared on the surface of the cabinet, it can be restored without much hassle;
  • versatility - wooden log furniture is relevant in almost any premise. The living room will look simply chic, the bedroom will be filled with comfort, and the nursery will be as safe and practical as possible with such decor.

There are also disadvantages to timber furniture, which is important to be aware of when choosing such interior items for a bedroom, living room or children's room. We describe them in detail below:

  • the ability to crack under the influence of high humidity in the room. Even with a good surface treatment of wood, it will remain sensitive to moisture. If there is no optimal humidity in the room, then the furniture may shrink or swell;
  • excessively high cost of wooden products. Often this fact scares off the buyer, forcing him to choose a more affordable analogue. In fairness, we add that the technology for the production of interior items from timber is complex, which is why they are expensive for buyers;
  • high weight - log furniture is not suitable for old houses with frame floors;
  • specific qualities - different types of wood cause different tactile sensations, associative thoughts in a person. For example, the natural smell of pine can scare one person away and attract another person.

Product types

Log furniture is very relevant for many purpose-built premises. In its manufacture, different types of wood are used, therefore, operational parameters may appear different.

Conventionally, experts divide all wood species used in the production of log interior items into two types:

  • solid wood: maple, oak, ash, walnut. Such breeds are relevant for the manufacture of furniture that experiences the highest load during operation. For example, bed frame, dining table top;
  • from soft wood: poplar, willow, pine, spruce, chestnut. These types of wood are used for the manufacture of decorative elements in the design of log furniture. For example, facades, carved decorations.

We also note that furniture made from solid logs will be more reliable, durable, expensive than options from glued beams.

The appearance of log furniture may also be different, which is a consequence of the use of different compositions to give the object a high resistance to impact:

  • painted - for decorating wooden furniture, various kinds of coloring compositions are used, which can completely cover the natural pattern of wood or slightly shade it. This determines the external aesthetics of the subject in the end;
  • varnished (matte, glossy). Gloss effect lacquer allows you to add clarity and brightness to the wood pattern. Such surfaces are perfect for classic interiors. And matte wax gives the surface a special charm that is relevant for country, Provence and other areas of residential decor.

Where is it most commonly used

The use of logs made of rounded logs is relevant in many stylistic directions in the decor of residential premises, as it can be successfully combined with other materials, with many color shades in the decoration of walls, ceilings, and floors. But most often, such decor items can be found in rooms with decor in the following styles.

Room design direction Characteristic
Country Country is distinguished by the naturalness of materials, so log tables, chairs, beds, cabinets will perfectly fit into the premises of this style.
Provence Provence requires conciseness of forms, simplicity of color shades and naturalness of the materials used, which, by the way, corresponds to furniture made of rounded timber.
Loft The loft style is unusual and simple, practical and resists everything overly pompous and expensive. However, it is log furniture that is successfully combined with glass, brick, plaster, which are so often used in such interiors.
Classic With proper processing, natural wood furniture acquires a strict, conservative look, which is very important for classic living rooms and bedrooms.

No less relevant is log furniture for a garden house, gazebos in a summer cottage or a park. But leaving it for a long time in the open air is not worth it, as precipitation will affect the quality of the surface in a negative way.

You can complement the beauty of timber furniture with decorative elements made of natural rattan, glass or metal, leather.

Nuances of choice

Log furniture has a number of advantages. However, this rule applies only to those pieces of furniture that are made strictly according to technology using high-quality fittings and fasteners. Savings on components or protective coatings for logs can adversely affect the durability of structures, reduce their resistance to the negative influence of external factors. Therefore, you need to choose such interior items carefully, without haste, weighing all the pros and cons.

We describe the main factors that cannot be ignored when choosing wooden furniture:

  • cost - the process of creating furniture from logs is quite complex, painstaking and does not tolerate haste. Only if this condition is met, it can be argued that a log bed will serve for several decades in a row. That is why interior items of this kind cannot be cheap. A low price should alert the buyer, make him carefully examine the design for defects, familiarize himself with the accompanying documentation for the product (quality certificate, passport, assembly instructions, maintenance instructions);
  • dimensions - log interior items often have impressive dimensions, so they should not be selected for narrow spaces with poor lighting. In small rooms, they will look overly cumbersome and burden the space. And for large spaces, such furniture is just a godsend;
  • aesthetics of the surface - on the logs used in the manufacturing process of the furniture structure, there should be no knots, chips of the layer in the mass of the tree, and annual rings should be located as close as possible. These factors will indicate the high quality of the material used. If the bed still has such shortcomings, the price for it should be significantly reduced.

Taking into account these factors, it is possible to choose successful models of tables, chairs, beds or cabinets made of logs and profiled logs for a home or summer cottage.

Summer residents and owners of private houses know firsthand how great it is to enjoy the singing of birds, the chirping of crickets or just a conversation with family and friends at a wonderful table in a cozy gazebo in the fresh air. And what could be more soothing and inviting than a romantic dinner with a loved one or just a cup of tea alone in this atmosphere?!..

However, unfortunately, not all owners of such potentially peaceful gazebos and places to relax can boast of a comfortable and durable table that harmoniously complements the necessary environment: someone simply does not have the desire and time to buy it, and someone is limited in money, therefore, he does not even think about acquiring a good table. But there is always a way!

Do you still have logs from the gazebo? Then the issue is resolved! Make a table out of logs with your own hands.

So let's get ready.

Necessary materials and tools.

  1. Log, 30 cm in diameter. By the way, if it is an oak, then a table made of it will serve you for about a century.
  2. Impregnation for wood (you can also use stain) - is needed to preserve the tree and prevent it from rotting.
  3. Saw with an axe.
  4. Chisel and hammer.
  5. Chainsaw.
  6. Lacquer for wood processing (at the end of the work).

The process of making a table from logs with your own hands.

  • First of all, you should consider what exactly you want to see in your house, plot or gazebo. It is better to draw a sketch of the future table.
  • Due to the fact that only your own strength is not enough to cut the logs along, find a sawmill and arrange to cut them there.
  • Start processing logs. To do this, it is necessary to saw (preferably use a chainsaw) logs into pieces of the required length.
  • Next, clean the tree from the bark with a chisel or an ax and a hammer. This will prevent rotting and keep it looking nice. However, refrain from working with a hammer alone, otherwise you will leave a large number of unnecessary notches on the tree, over which you will then have to “sweat” quite a lot, “killing” a lot of time for this.
  • If necessary, process the logs with a planer.
  • Take the logs to the sawmill for sawing.
  • It's time to assemble the table.

Assembly of a table from logs.

The technology for assembling a table from logs with your own hands is quite simple:

  1. put the logs parallel to each other in a place prepared in advance for the table;
  2. cut semicircular grooves in the center of the top of each log so that the log can lie in this recess;
  3. connect the structure with nails or screws;
  4. make the top of the tabletop from logs sawn at the sawmill, flat side up, putting them into the already prepared recesses;
  5. process and impregnate the finished table.

You ask:

“Who may be interested in the topic of how to make garden furniture with your own hands?”

You probably don't know the story about the labor teacher.

He was able to make a fortune in three years.

The theme of all his classes was garden furniture with his own hands. He taught children how to make it, and then sold their creations.

So why don't you repeat Trudovik's success? All you need is to learn how to make garden furniture with your own hands, and then teach a couple more friends and sell your products. You know how highly valued manual labor is today.

The question remains:

"How to master the manufacture of garden furniture with your own hands?"

Since the labor teacher already known to us is now resting in the Bahamas, we decided to teach you this one ourselves.

  • how to make a garden set with benches
  • how to make a garden set with chairs
  • what tools and materials will be required for this
  • how to make a table and chairs from stumps if you need homemade furniture for a summer residence, but do not want to buy it and spend a lot of effort on making it
  • tips, thanks to which the manufacture of country furniture with your own hands will pass without errors and easily

And the best part is that you can do all this, even if you don’t have blueprints for summer cottage furniture.

True, it would be easier with them, but that's okay.

We note right away that here we only talk about how wooden country furniture is made with our own hands, because it is precisely such a product that is in the greatest demand.

Do-it-yourself furniture for a summer residence - we make a set with benches

What tools do you need

  • tape measure, pencil and square
  • wooden spacer 60-120 mm wide
  • drill and drills
  • electric saw and hacksaw
  • hammer and nails
  • sandpaper and wood glue

What materials do you need

  • cedar wood boards measuring 60x120, 2.4 meters long - 22 pieces.
  • cedar boards measuring 60x180 and 2.4 meters long - 2 pcs.
  • stainless steel bolts 5 cm long.
  • full-length threaded bolts with a diameter of 0.8 cm and a length of 3.5 cm - 18 pcs.
  • full-length threaded bolts with a diameter of 0.8 cm and a length of 14 cm - 18 pcs.
  • washers with a diameter of 0.8 cm - 64 pcs.
  • sealant and paint optional

The number of materials was calculated from the fact that the length of the table and benches will be 2.4 meters. If you want furniture of other sizes, then calculate the amount of material yourself.

We make a countertop

The table top will have a length equal to the length of the cedar board, and a width equal to the total width of all boards.

Glue the boards with wood glue.

And when the glue dries, install five supports: two on each edge where the legs will be, and one in the middle.

Attach the supports through the top of the table with screws.

Making legs

Since our legs will cross, you need to determine the length of the legs so that in the end the table has the height you need and is comfortable for you.

To do this, it would be nice to draw up drawings of country furniture.

The legs will touch in the middle, so carefully and accurately cut the grooves in the center of each. A hacksaw will help you with this.

After that, make holes in the legs: where they will touch each other and where they will be attached to the supports.

Using bolts and washers, we fix the legs to the tabletop.

So that the table does not loosen and is more stable ...

Install stiffeners.

Attach one end to the legs where they touch, and the other end to the central beam. For fastening, again use bolts.

We make benches

Benches are made on the same principle as the table. Only the boards will be smaller (the width of the benches should be less than the width of the table) and the legs will be shorter.

Do-it-yourself cottage furniture - we make a set with chairs

Here you will definitely need to first prepare the drawings of garden furniture.

Because if the table can be made according to the principle described above, then it will be difficult with chairs without a drawing.

You already know how to make a table, so let's immediately start describing how to make chairs.

  1. To do this, make two side rails measuring 53x13x86 cm and attach them with screws to the rear bottom rail measuring 28x11x59 cm.

    Do-it-yourself garden furniture for summer cottages - photos of successful homemade products

    Attach the base to the resulting frame.

  2. Attach the 53x11x52 cm front legs to the outside of the side rails.
  3. And in order for the back of the chair to turn out a little at an angle, the upper part of the rear legs should be slightly narrowed.

    To do this, cut off the upper part at an angle of 60-65 degrees. After that, also attach them to the side rails.

  4. Attach the top rear rail measuring 28x11x59 cm to the upper ends of the rear legs.
  5. Mark the center on the bottom and top back rail and attach a 20x8x90 cm backboard to it.

    After that, fasten the same boards along the edges so that the distance between all the boards of the back is the same.

  6. Make 53x7x16.5 cm armrest supports and 53x13x71 cm armrests.
  7. Attach the supports to the side of the front legs, and put the armrests on top.

    The other end of the armrest is attached to the side of the rear legs.

And in order for the furniture for a summer house or garden to last as long as possible, sand it, paint it (although if you like the natural color, you can skip this point) and varnish it.

How to make a table and chairs from stumps

If a tree has ceased to bear fruit, and you cut it down, and now the stump spoils the appearance of the garden, do not rush to uproot it and throw out the tree trunk - these are excellent materials for country furniture.

Find some unwanted boards or buy them.

Attach them with glue. And then screw it to the stump.

The trunk will become the material for the seat. Cut it into several logs of the desired height. And dig the logs into the ground.

Now your garden furniture is ready.

And to:

  • do not knead the dirt after rain, sprinkle gravel in this area
  • it was possible to spend time outside, even when it rains, make a hole in the middle of the table where you will install a beach umbrella
  • no tar has come out of your finished furniture, mix water with acetone (1 part acetone to 4 parts water) or acetone and caustic soda (1 part baking soda to 5 parts acetone) and treat all logs and stumps.

And finally...

Tips to help you during the manufacture of country furniture

  1. If you use dowels for fastening, then you can make parallel holes for them using the stop from the pieces of the bar.

    Then, when you drill the second hole, the dowel inserted into the first one will press firmly against the bar.

  2. If you lean the same bar against the workpiece horizontally, then you can drill holes between which there should be a right angle.
  3. If you need to chamfer the edges of round workpieces, then do it like this: fasten two guide bars to the base plate in front of the end grinding wheel.
  4. If you want the seat to be tilted towards the back, then stick wedge pads on top of the side rails.

    The pads should be of such thickness that the front edge is about 2 centimeters higher.

  5. All bolt heads must be sunk into the wood.

    So you will not be scratched or injured when you use the furniture. And all surfaces must be well sanded so as not to catch a splinter.

  6. So that the wood does not rot and fungus does not form on it, treat it with an antiseptic, and then apply several layers of drying oil.
  7. To the legs, in the part where they are in contact with the ground, nail pieces of tin or duralumin. Then they will not rot due to moisture.

That's all. With the information received here, you can definitely assemble furniture for a summer residence with your own hands without any problems.

Benches, tables, couches and other furniture made of logs look much more appropriate near a summer house or a suburban house than the same plastic counterparts. This is an environmentally friendly material that emphasizes the originality of the design and the good taste of the owners. In addition, you can even create them yourself, finding a kind of outlet in such a useful hobby.

A log is an environmentally friendly material, so it makes excellent furniture for a summer residence.

Various wooden furniture

To create such furniture, it is not necessary to immediately buy material. Sometimes it is enough to look around and choose drying trees on the site, which can no longer be rejuvenated by sawing branches and top dressing. When we cut them down, we get a mass of wood, which can be used to create, for example, a bench from logs.

For this, a base is selected, which will be processed. Having outlined the cut points with an electric saw, we cut the log in half and build a back and a seat from both parts. For their fastening, strong branches peeled from the bark are used, in which holes are drilled with a drill and a steel rod is inserted.

So that the metal does not move freely in the resulting space and the bench does not loosen, the most ordinary PVA glue is used to work with wood. It must be poured into the recess and a rod inserted there, allowing the structure to dry out. To make the bench last longer, before assembly, all parts must be carefully sanded, removed from all damage, splits and cavities filled with special grout.

If the owner does not have steel bars at his disposal, and it is difficult to purchase them, you can also use ordinary nails by removing their hats. A prerequisite for the creation of furniture: the treatment of all parts with impregnation, which subsequently excludes rotting, mold formation, colonization of bug colonies. After assembly, when the furniture is already firmly installed, the surfaces are covered with layers of varnish, which will give a well-groomed look and protect from bad weather.

The back, which the bench is equipped with, can also be decorated using not boards for connecting, but 2-3 forged intricately bent rods, which are not so difficult or expensive to buy. No less impressive will look additions from the vine, which is very easy to work with. It is durable, it can be used to create a high back or armrests if the log is not big enough.

If the owner has coniferous logs at his disposal, he needs to take care to get rid of the resin, which, especially on hot days, will actively stand out, staining clothes.

To neutralize resins, several compositions are used to choose from:

  • acetone and water in a ratio of 4 to 1;
  • acetone solution and caustic soda in a ratio of 20 to 4;
  • potash and soda ash in a ratio of 5 to 6.

The mixture is carefully rubbed into the bark-free wood several times and washed off. After that, the material is dried naturally or with a building hair dryer.

Unique log tables

For a set of log benches, tables are also created, which can be simple or more complex depending on the amount of material, free time and the skill of the owner. The most straightforward option for decorating a garden is a wide leg cut from a block of wood cut to the desired height. Since the lower part of the table will be in very close contact with the ground, improvised coasters are created from wood, pieces of plastic.

Such furniture can be created in a few hours, if you first take care of sanding and impregnation. It is important that all cuts are made evenly, without distortions - so the table will stand very firmly. For many, the problem is not the construction of the table itself, but how to choose the countertop.

After all, it needs a saw cut of a sufficiently large diameter. And here you can dream up using a large piece of durable glass, the back of an old wooden bed cut to size, a wooden wheel covered with glass.

If there are enough logs, but they are small, a do-it-yourself log table is built according to the principle of a log cabin. For the countertop, several pieces are sawn in half, which are fixed with transverse planks. Benches for them are also being built, resembling original armchairs rather than ordinary garden furniture.

You can decorate the space by complementing the ensemble with logs installed next to it.

Before you can make a beautiful table for a summer residence from logs, you will first need to complete a drawing, which will indicate the dimensions and details of the table.

Long logs are arranged horizontally, and short ones (30-40 cm long) - vertically. In the middle, holes can be hollowed out according to the size of flowerpots, round or elongated. It is important to plant flowers in a flowerpot, as simply poured clay and systematic watering of plants will lead to rotting of the wood. In order not to work too long with a hand tool, it is appropriate to use an electric saw in the initial stages, and then only a chisel or other tools.

An oblong table with log legs is even easier to create. But before that, you need to make a drawing indicating the dimensions of the parts. As crossbars that give stability to the table, you can nail not just wooden planks, but peeled processed curly tree branches. With such lacquered furniture, the garden will become very cozy and even unique. A similar table and benches are installed not only under the trees, but also in gazebos and on open terraces.

Outdoors on sunny days

With imagination and desire, you can create beautiful things on your own that make family vacations even more enjoyable. In addition to a bench and a table, you can build a durable swing and even a hammock. As blanks for the swing, you need to choose 6 pieces of strong logs, the height of which exceeds 2.5 meters. The radius of the logs should be at least 5-6 centimeters. The structure must withstand the weight of adults who will definitely try to swing.

For supports, three pieces of logs are used on both sides, arranged in a triangle, the upper part of which is fixed with self-tapping screws. The length of the vertical log and the crossbars is determined by the width of the bench, which, depending on the idea. can accommodate 1-3 people.

In order not to disturb the single composition, but also not to make the structure too heavy, several carefully polished cuts are used for the back and seat, connected in the same way as a regular bench. In conclusion, it remains only to decide on what the bench will be hung: on a metal chain or on a strong thick rope.

Garden furniture can be supplemented with an original hammock, which will require:

  • 2 small logs 1.2 m long and 3-5 cm in radius;
  • a piece of durable fabric 1.5 m by 2.5 m;
  • strong rope or colored linen cord;
  • round steel rivets.

First of all, wood is processed, which is carefully sanded. Multiple through holes are drilled in it at a distance of 2.5 cm. Then it must be treated with an antiseptic, varnished and left to dry completely. Next, work begins with the material, which, with the correct measurements, does not have to be sheathed with a sewing machine. It is enough to wrap the edges three times and often stuff steel rivets, which is original and fast enough. A rope is pulled through the transverse holes and a drilled dried crossbar, from the free ends of which very strong loops are created on both sides of the hammock. You can diversify the design by creating a kind of fringe from the remains of a rope tied in a knot in free holes with rivets on the sides.

A beautiful and very practical hammock can be hung from the beams of the gazebo, between trees or from log pegs buried in the ground for stability. In this case, part of the logs, buried in the ground to the maximum depth, is protected from possible decay by resin or several layers of roofing material. A small stand for a flowerpot with flowers, also created from a log saw cut, will help to complement the decoration.
