  2. Microfiber. It has increased resistance to moisture, practicality - slightly susceptible to pollution. The kitchen corner, upholstered with it, will not need restoration for a long time.
  3. Leatherette. Easy to clean, does not absorb water, can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

As a filler, you can use foam rubber (a budget solution) or polyurethane foam - it costs more, but retains its shape better.

2 pieces are cut out of foam rubber. Thick foam rubber can be cut evenly using nichrome thread, material less than 5 cm thick is cut with a knife.

For the back, a piece is cut, the length of which is equal to the length of the chipboard sheet, and the width is made 4 cm larger. Fix it so that the 2 ends are covered with foam rubber. Glue is used for fixing.

For the seat, cut out a workpiece equal in length to the seat, and 2 cm wider in width. Fastened so that the front end is closed.

Fastening foam rubber

Then the upholstery fabric is cut. You will also need 2 parts - for the back and the seat. They need to be cut in such a way as to completely wrap the upper sides of the chipboard together with the foam rubber, with a few centimeters of fabric left from each edge, which is attached to the chipboard with a stapler. The staples are driven in every 2 cm.

First, they fix 1 long side, then, pulling the fabric slightly, nail the opposite side, then go to the side ones, straightening the material.

Materials and tools

To make a corner sofa, you need a furniture board or plywood with a thickness of at least 18 mm. In addition to them, you need to prepare:

  • upholstery fabric;
  • jigsaw;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • foam rubber;
  • nichrome thread;
  • drill and drill set;
  • plastic thrust bearings;
  • metal furniture corner;
  • water-based paint;
  • brush, cuvette;
  • primer.

Cutting out parts and assembling the frame

Procedure:

  1. Using the drawings, they transfer the parts to the furniture board, saw them using a jigsaw. It is important to hold the blade so that it forms a right angle.
  2. The base of the sofa is assembled: first, the bottom is screwed to the front, then the back wall.
  3. A transverse bar is installed in the central part of the workpiece. It should form a right angle with the front and back sides. The bar will serve as additional support for the seat so that it does not sag under the weight of the seated person.
  4. After installing the sidewalls.
  5. The second sofa is made in the same way.
  6. Using self-tapping screws, both bases are connected to each other to make a corner sofa.
  7. The backs are screwed to each workpiece, at the junction on the back side, they are first fixed with confirmations, and then a metal corner is installed. Before screwing in the screws, first mark the location of the fasteners and drill holes using a drill with a diameter of 0.5 mm less than the diameter of the screw.

Before completely assembling the kitchen corner, installing the seat cover on the base, the workpiece is painted.

Unpainted frame

Frame decoration

Furniture board or plywood can be painted, stained or varnished. Before proceeding, the corner is covered with an antiseptic primer - it will protect the tree from rotting, and will also improve adhesion. All parts are carefully primed on both sides and then left to dry completely. Separately apply a primer to the seats that are not yet fixed to the frame.

If you decide to paint the corner, then it is better to take a water-based paint, such as acrylic. It is resistant to contact with water, retains brightness for a long time, does not wear out.

Painted corner

Assembly

When the paint has dried, they begin to collect the corner. The seats are connected to the frame with hinges.

Upholstery

Instead of the usual upholstery for this model of a kitchen sofa, you can use soft pillows.

For this:

  1. Foam rubber with a thickness of 8 cm is cut into 2 parts, the dimensions must match the parameters of the seat covers.
  2. Covers for foam rubber are sewn from fabric.
  3. Put them on the blanks.

A soft corner made of a furniture board for the kitchen is almost ready - it remains to put pillows on the backs or cover them with fabric.

Corner from boards

An easy-to-assemble kitchen corner can be made from ordinary wooden planks.

Kitchen corner from boards

You will need:

  • boards 100 * 40 mm;
  • stapler;
  • foam rubber;
  • jigsaw;
  • roulette;
  • dowels;
  • drill, crown nozzle with a diameter of 1.5 cm;
  • construction glue;
  • sandpaper;
  • batting;
  • upholstery material;
  • varnish, paint brush;
  • pencil.

Sawing parts and making the frame

The corner is made, guided by the parameters of the kitchen. All parts are visible in the diagram, so detailed drawings are not required.

Frame diagram

If you still need a diagram, you can watch a video on how to build a template yourself.

Having chosen the optimal depth and length, the boards are cut into pieces of the required size.

You will need:

  • 3 racks;
  • 2 legs;
  • 3 cross members of equal length for a long sofa;
  • 5 identical crossbars for short;
  • 4 identical bars for the sides of both sofas (2 on each side);
  • 2 cross pieces for a long sofa.

After the elements that make up the corner are cut, they are carefully sanded using sandpaper. Start with coarse, then apply medium.

Holes for dowels are marked. Each frame element must be connected to the other using 2 dowels. Drill holes for them using a drill with a crown.

The holes are coated with wood glue, the dowels are inserted, the parts are tightly fitted to each other using a hammer. It is important to ensure that there is a right angle between the elements, distortions must not be allowed.

Each inner corner of the structure is strengthened by screwing a metal corner to the boards.

Coating with varnish or stain

The wooden base is covered with 2 layers of varnish or stain. If the latter is used, after the frame has dried, it must be sanded again, since the pile on the wood rises from the stain, and there is a risk of planting a splinter.

Assembly

Assembling and painting the frame

A metal corner is fixed on each lower crossbar from the inside at the same level - it will hold the bottom of the box.

Securing furniture corners

2 blanks for the bottom are cut out of chipboard. Lay them on the frame.

Bottom of boxes

Cut out 2 front strips for the box, 2 side ones. Fix them from the inside of the frame, so that the lower end is in contact with the bottom. They are fixed on screws to the boards.

Saw out 2 seat covers. Their dimensions should be 2 cm larger than the width and length of the boxes, so that when closed they are securely held on the frame.

Sheathing

Before you completely assemble the corner for the kitchen, the covers are sheathed. First, foam rubber is glued to the base, then wrapped with batting, securing it with a stapler, and then sheathed with furniture fabric.

Cloth upholstery

The final step is to install the seat. Both blanks are attached to the rear crossbar of the frame with hinges.

A corner sofa for the kitchen from ordinary boards is ready.

Kitchenette renovation and restoration

If the kitchen corner, assembled by your own hands, began to look unsightly, it can be restored, returning its original appearance. The method depends on which part of the furniture needs updating - frame or upholstery.

Frame

The front parts of the frame, made of wood or plywood, can be painted, varnished, stained.

For this you need:

  1. Dismantle fabric upholstered items.
  2. Remove old coating, if present. Residual paint can be removed with sandpaper.
  3. Cover fittings or other parts of the frame, which should not get paint, with masking tape.
  4. Using a cuvette and a brush, carefully cover the kitchen corner with 1-2 coats of varnish, stain or paint.

Replacement of upholstery

Replacing faded, stained or torn upholstery is straightforward. It is not required to completely disassemble the corner for the kitchen - you need to remove the seats of the sofas from the hinges, and dismantle the backs.

After removing the fabric, pulling out the staples, tear off the foam rubber from the strips. Cut parts of the required size from foam rubber and fabric (imitation leather, velor, microfiber, etc.), taking into account the size of the wooden elements. Then re-upholstery, proceeding in the same way as when making furniture.

Replacing foam rubber and upholstery on the sofa: before and after

Attach to the finished frames slats made of wood. They will support the mattress.

... Armrests

First from the sheet Chipboard, the thickness of which is 2.5 cm, cut out the side walls of the sofa. The dimensions are shown in the photo.

Then, according to the same dimensions, the frame is knocked down, to which the sawn wall is attached.

On the sides of the box, holes are drilled with a drill with a diameter of 10 mm.

Fix on top of the lamellas non-woven... They lay on it foam sheets, which are about six centimeters thick. To ensure that the sheet is correctly positioned on the frame and does not cover the transformation mechanism, pieces are cut out in the corners.

To make a soft roller on the edge of the seat, a strip of 2 cm thick and 20 wide prorolon is glued there. Another sheet of foam rubber is glued on top, the thickness of which is 4 cm. The edge is folded down under the seat.

Perform similar actions with the back. Then, tailored-to-size covers are pulled over the back and seat.

To make soft armrests, a roller is made on them from foam rubber... Foam rubber is used with a thickness of 4cm. The width of the strip is at first 15 cm, and towards the middle it decreases to 5 cm.

Foam rubber with a thickness of 2 cm is fixed on top.

Such foam rubber is glued to the inner side of the armrest at a distance of 32 cm from the bottom edge.

After gluing, the reverse part of the foam sheet is fixed over the existing material. The excess is cut off.

The front side of the armrest has protruding edges that need to be tucked up.

Finished parts are covered with fabric and nailed to them accessories.

It remains only to assemble the sofa with your own hands completely.

The need to make a sofa for the kitchen with your own hands may arise if there are no suitable models on the market, or the size of the room does not fit standard furniture. You can call a specialist to take measurements and make a custom-made sofa, but this will require large financial costs. In order to save money, it is best to make it yourself.

Deciding on the design and construction

Before you make a sofa for the kitchen with your own hands, you need to decide on the design:

  1. A straight sofa is a simple piece of furniture with a solid frame, partial or full upholstery. It can be with or without armrests, include niches under the seat and additional shelves. Straight folding upholstered furniture is popular, which allows you to organize extra beds at any time.
  2. More often they use a sofa for the kitchen, which has an angular design. It saves space, as it implies installation in the most unclaimed places in the room.

The choice of a sofa design for the kitchen is based on the interior of the room and the tastes of the owners. You can create a bench with ready-made legs made of wood or metal, or include them in the drawing of the side faces, or you can exclude the legs and thereby get a niche under the seat deeper.

The upholstery methods themselves differ in design. A sofa with soft inserts will be cheaper. Fully upholstered furniture looks much cozier and richer.

Features of kitchen corner sofas

The main feature of the corner kitchen sofa is the L-shape. It consists of 3 parts: short, longer and connecting in the form of a quarter of a circle. There are sofas that consist of 2, 4 or more non-fixed parts (modular). They are additionally equipped with ottomans and tables.

Corner sofas differ in functionality depending on the optional equipment. They are equipped with hidden storage under the seat, open shelves in the armrests and backrests, drawers and even a berth.

Often the backs of the corners are only slightly tilted to take up as little space as possible near the wall. If the footage of the room allows, you should consider how to make the corner sofa more luxurious. You can equip it with curved soft armrests and backrest, increase the depth of the sofa seat.

Sofa with sleeper

Kitchen sofas are primarily designed for seating. The depth of such a product does not exceed 50 cm. This is not enough to lie down. To solve this problem, manufacturers provide straight and corner kitchen sofas with a transformation function or hide the sleeping place inside the furniture.

The main distinguishing characteristic is the transformation mechanism:

  • Roll-out is the simplest. Allows you to roll out the lower block of the sofa and expand the soft area.
  • The book is the most common mechanism with a reclining sofa back.
  • Dolphin - a berth is created by pulling out the lower sofa block.
  • The accordion is the most compact sofa. Does not require additional space behind the back. Unfolding consists of two stages: extending the seat and placing it in the formed backrest niche.
  • Click-gag is an improved book. Allows you to additionally lower the side parts, so the finished product can be much less than the standard.

When choosing the design of a corner sofa for a kitchen with a sleeping place, special attention should be paid to the quality of the sliding mechanisms, the strength of the fasteners, the absence of visible defects, otherwise the furniture will not last long.

If the creation of a kitchen sofa implies a berth, the best option would be a folding bed built-in inside (folding meralat mechanism).

Custom size sofa for kitchen

A radical redevelopment of the apartment can lead to the fact that the dinette offered by the manufacturers does not fit in the kitchen. In such cases, it is advisable to order according to individual sizes, but such a purchase can hit the family budget hard.

In order to reduce spending on an additional piece of furniture, the owners make a decision. If you approach the matter with intelligence and patience, creating an original sofa does not take much time and effort.

With storage box

When making a corner sofa with your own hands, do not neglect the opportunity to provide it with additional storage space for rarely used kitchen utensils.

For this purpose, a special cavity is allocated in the body of the future corner, into which a sliding mechanism is built in and a spacious drawer is attached. Attaching the seat to wide curtains makes it possible to lift it and access the inner spaces of the sofa parts.

Drawings and diagrams

The work begins with the creation (having previously familiarized yourself with the kitchen corners presented by the manufacturers) a furniture project in a single copy, you need to analyze how the butt end, the parts with upholstery, the shape of the finished product will look like.

The most critical part of designing a kitchen sofa:

  • correctly determine the location;
  • take measurements;
  • based on the data obtained, create drawings and assembly diagrams.

The proposed ready-made options differ from the required dimensions, so the drawing will have to be drawn from start to finish, taking the existing ones as a basis:

  1. The width of the walls near which the corner will stand (the width of both parts is taken as a basis minus 40-50 cm, depending on the depth of the seat). Calculations are needed to compensate for the dimensions of the connecting part.
  2. The height of the seat and backrest is determined if it is necessary to deviate from the standard dimensions.
  3. The front lower part of the body is attached at an angle for a comfortable leg position. It will be slightly larger than the back panel. This also needs to be taken into account.
  4. Depending on the thickness of the material used, the width of the main parts of the angle decreases.

Based on the data obtained, the size of each individual piece is calculated, the amount of material and accessories required. An exact drawing of each individual element is drawn.

The diagram in the future will help you figure out how to make a sofa in the kitchen with your own hands, tell you the position of the parts, attachment points, and determine the procedure.

Necessary materials

The choice of material depends on the model of the bench, financial capabilities and the appearance of the finished product. The most reliable wooden sofas will cost more, and wood processing will require additional effort and skill. Therefore, you should consider the materials for the manufacture of the budget version of the corner. This will require:

  • Wooden beams for creating a frame and auxiliary lintels.
  • Laminated chipboard or plywood sheets with a minimum thickness of 16 mm.
  • Fiberboard for hiding the edges of the sheathing and making the bottom of the box.
  • Lifting or roller mechanisms (if necessary).
  • Filler for soft parts (foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, holofiber).
  • Upholstery material.
  • Self-tapping screws, nails, screws and steel corners, staples for a construction stapler, glue.

Upholstery selection

The upholstery material should not only be pleasant to the touch, but also have a beautiful appearance. The main characteristics of fabrics in the kitchen: do not absorb moisture and odors, have a high degree of retention of their original shape and are easy to clean. The upholstery of the kitchen sofa must fully comply with all these requirements.

The most reliable and luxurious material is leather, but its price is appropriate. Of the more common budget options, there is a conditional rating of fabric for upholstery:

  1. Cotton is a natural fabric. It is susceptible to sun fading and is highly deformed.
  2. Velor looks nice, but wipes off quickly.
  3. Jacquard is a dense fabric. Virtually unaffected by ultraviolet radiation and mechanical damage.
  4. Microfiber is a durable Teflon-impregnated fabric.
  5. Chenille is a textured fabric made of fluffy threads. Easy to clean.
  6. Tapestry is a natural woven material with a high degree of wear resistance.

It is customary to upholster with a single piece of fabric, but lovers of needlework when creating a sofa with their own hands can make it unique by using material made in the patchwork style (patchwork upholstery) from pieces of different colors and textures.

Required tools

It is necessary to prepare a standard set of tools:

  • Ruler, tape measure, pencil, construction knife and scissors.
  • A hand saw for wood or an electric jigsaw for cutting blanks and pieces of timber.
  • Grinding machine for processing wood cuts. To avoid sanding, you can hide the edges under hardware or upholstery.
  • Electric drill with drills of different diameters and screwdriver.
  • Furniture stapler.

Preparation of the backrest frame made of timber and plywood

Considering the creation of a sofa for the kitchen, as an example, you can take a straight two-seater bench with plywood sides and a built-in storage box. After the side parts are cut out using the patterns, the timber is cut into pieces in accordance with the dimensions in the drawing, step-by-step instructions will help in assembling the frame:

  1. Alternately between the armrests in the designated places, 5 bars are attached: 2 in the lower part at a distance of 15-20 centimeters from the floor - this is the base of the frame and the future bottom of the box, 1 - in the upper part of the back, 2 bars fixed at the same level just below the location of the future seats will serve as a basis for it.
  2. The frame is strengthened with inserts located across the main ones in the middle. One connects the upper and lower rear bars (back), the other is fixed between the front ribs of the frame. Another piece, screwed horizontally, reinforces the base and bottom of the drawer.

All connections are made with self-tapping screws. You get a detail that looks like a garden bench without wooden lintels.

Assembling the sofa for the kitchen

When the frame of the future sofa is ready, proceed to its final assembly:

  • Plywood blanks are screwed in turn, which will become the front and back walls of the built-in drawer. Fasteners are placed in 15 cm increments.
  • A fiberboard sheet is fixed to the bottom of the box along the entire perimeter. In this case, it is better to use a construction stapler.
  • The back, previously upholstered with fabric, is screwed to the transverse bar in the upper part. At the bottom - they are fixed with self-tapping screws screwed to the left and right into the side parts.
  • The seat upholstered in the selected material is attached by means of a lifting mechanism. First, the curtains are screwed to the rear edge. Then the free part is fixed to the back of the box.

The back of the sofa is sewn up with a fiberboard blank attached to the upper and lower longitudinal bars.

When creating a kitchen corner, first, the frame of both halves of the back is made of timber and plywood, then they are fastened with a connecting part. At the end, soft components are installed.

Kitchen sofa upholstery

Sheathing the sofa yourself is quite simple. The work is carried out in several stages:

  1. With the help of a painting knife, blanks are cut out of foam rubber exactly to the size of the seat and back, and they are fixed in place with special glue. Do not fix the foam rubber with a stapler - this will break the flat surface and damage the material.
  2. The fabric is laid face down on a flat surface. At the top in the center, place an inverted piece of furniture intended for processing. Fabric blanks must be larger than the base to compensate for filler heights and material folds.
  3. Pressing and slightly pulling the upholstery, the edges are fixed with staples using a furniture stapler. If the surface is flat, without distortions and folds, fix it around the entire perimeter.
  4. To hide the uneven edges of the fabric, a fiberboard panel is screwed onto the surface.

If the kitchen sofa is fully covered, a thin synthetic winterizer is used instead of foam rubber on the side parts.

The last stage is decorating

Once the furniture is ready and in place, it's time to tackle additional decor. The sofa is covered with cushions in the color of the curtains or walls. To protect the upholstery, you can sew a cover with ties or elastic bands that will cover the entire sofa. This cape can be removed and washed at any time.

What do you do with old furniture?

Upholstered kitchen corners are the most popular pieces of furniture used to furnish a kitchen space or dining area. They are quite functional, while not taking up too much space, which is important for small rooms. In addition, the design of such a piece of furniture is quite simple, so anyone who knows how to hold a hammer, screwdriver and drill in their hands can make a sofa for the kitchen with their own hands. And so that during the manufacturing process you do not have any difficulties, our specialists will reveal to you in detail all the subtleties and nuances of this process.

Features of kitchen corner sofas

A corner kitchen sofa is the best solution for furnishing a kitchen with a small area. The main advantage of this design is that it is equipped with special storage areas for various items, which are located directly under the seat. In addition, if you approach the design of the kitchen space correctly, you can immediately get a work area and a dining room at the same time.

The process of making such a corner is quite simple. However, it consists of several stages. Below we will tell you in detail about each of them.

Stage 1. Preparatory work

The very first thing you need when planning and designing is to decide on the parameters of the future product.

Therefore, it is necessary to plan the amount of materials and the assembly sequence, taking into account the following parameters:

  • Product height - 85 centimeters;
  • Back height - 30 centimeters;
  • The length of the large sofa is 120 centimeters;
  • Small sofa length - 90 centimeters;
  • Sidewall width - 45 centimeters;
  • The corner area of the seat is 45x45 centimeters;
  • Seat height - 40 centimeters.

Important! Please note that these parameters are not final. When making a calculation, you should also focus on the number of family members. The most important thing is not to go beyond 120 centimeters for a small module and 150 centimeters for a large one.

Required tools and materials

You can make a kitchen corner sofa with your own hands from chipboard, but it is best for these purposes to purchase a joiner's board made of pine with dimensions of 2100x900x30 centimeters.

In addition, you will also need:

  • Beam 1.5x1.5 and 3x3 - 120 centimeters;
  • Bar 2.5x2.5 - 360 centimeters;
  • A bar with a section of 4x4 - 13.5 centimeters;
  • Board with a section of 20x350 - 100 centimeters;
  • Plywood sheet 1.2x45x255 centimeters;
  • Rail 2x6 -210 centimeters;
  • Foam rubber with a thickness of at least 5 centimeters;
  • Piano hinges;
  • Plugs for self-tapping screws;
  • Metal corners;
  • Joiner's glue;
  • Confirmates;
  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Hacksaw;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Fraser;
  • Roulette;
  • Level;
  • Stapler;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Scissors.

Stage 2. Installation of the main part

In order to make the installation of the main part of the kitchen sofa with your own hands, you need to follow the following algorithm of actions:

  • Cut 2 sidewalls measuring 45x37 centimeters. The seat and back will be further attached to them.

Important! The main load is borne by the sidewalls of the product, therefore, it is best to make them from a joiner's board, the thickness of which should be at least 3 centimeters. Also, in the manufacture of sidewalls, you need to carefully approach the choice of their shape, since the future appearance of the finished product completely depends on this.

  • Place the sides of the sofa on a 4x4 block with a length of 45 centimeters.
  • Fasten another similar block flush to the sidewall.
  • Make boxes for the seats. To do this, take 2 boards measuring 15x2.5x120 centimeters and 2 trimming dimensions 15x2.5x30 centimeters. They will act as side walls of the structure. Cover the bottom of the box with plywood, which must first be inserted into the grooves. Secure the parts from the front side with self-tapping screws. Close the holes with a profile strip or plugs.

Important! The length of the self-tapping screws must be at least 6-7 centimeters.

  • Connect the sidewalls using horizontal bars for the backrest for this purpose, and then fix them to 4 vertical posts. Screw a sheet of plywood onto the uprights. It will serve as the basis for the foam rubber.

Important! Vertical racks are cut from a bar measuring 2.5x7x26 centimeters.

  • Assemble the seat frame from 2 longitudinal bars and 4 cross bars. Insert the longitudinal bars into the ends through the sidewalls and fix them using self-tapping screws. The cross bars must be connected using the longitudinal tenon method.

Important! The transverse elements should be made in the size of 4x7x16 centimeters, and the longitudinal ones - 4x7x120 centimeters.

  • At the end of the assembly of the frame, screw the previously cut sheet of plywood to the strapping with screws.
  • Using the piano hinges, attach the seat cover to the rear railing. Screw the backrest to the bar.

Step 3. Attach small modules and corner block

Make a small sofa in the same way as you made a large one. The difference in this case is only in the longitudinal bars, the length of which should be about 90 centimeters. The assembly of the corner joint must begin with the manufacture of the seat itself, the dimensions of which should be 45x45 centimeters.

Important! The front and rear corners of the cover must be cut off.

Screw the finished seat to the sides of adjacent sofas, using self-tapping screws for this purpose. You need to fix the seat on a beam, the cross-section of which is at least 3x3 centimeters.

  1. Tapered the edge, then select the edges that are at a 45 degree angle.
  2. Fasten them with the Euro screws from the back to the end of the seat.
  3. Install additional frame-shaped backrests on both sides of the rack.
  4. Sew them up with a sheet of plywood and screw them to the sidewalls with self-tapping screws.

Stage 4. Upholstery of the kitchen sofa

The final stage in making a sofa for the kitchen with your own hands is fabric upholstery. For these purposes, it is best to choose synthetic and hypoallergenic fabrics that are easy to care for and clean. The most commonly used fabrics for upholstering kitchen sofas are microfiber, velor, flock and jacquard.

Important! Today, the most demanded material for upholstery of a kitchen sofa is artificial or natural leather. It is characterized by high reliability, environmental friendliness and ease of maintenance.

The kitchen has long ceased to be just a cooking area. Now here they receive guests or relax after preparing complex recipes. Therefore, the presence of upholstered furniture is not considered something unusual, but on the contrary, it expands the visual and functional capabilities of the room. How to choose the right model, where to place it? In this article, we will try to answer these and other questions related to buying a sofa for the kitchen.

Straight sofas

A traditional version with a simple and convenient form. It may seem to someone that such a sofa is too bulky for the kitchen, but by choosing the right model, you can fit it into a space with any layout.

Two-three-seater furniture, endowed with small dimensions. Even in spacious rooms, it is recommended to choose compact views so that they do not take too much attention on themselves in the interior of the kitchen. To provide more seating, it is better to combine with several seats on both sides. Stationary sofas can be placed in any part or used for zoning.

A laconic version, created like an ordinary bench. He often lacks armrests, which only visually simplifies the design. The sofa can be designed in a minimalistic way or decorated with forged elements. The presence of upholstery and textiles eliminates the possible "street" image.

"Bench" is more suitable for the dining area, next to the table. Such an item does not look as bulky as standard sofas, and will fit well in a small kitchen. There are also types with drawers under the seats in which you can store kitchen utensils.

Such a model is usually part of a furniture set, forming a single monolith with a cabinet. Basically, it is a drawer structure with a seat mounted against a wall or window. A great option for modern kitchens that prioritize functionality.

In addition to the obvious practicality of the solution, the visual unity of the furniture allows you to create a holistic design that does not split the space into many details.

In small-sized rooms, an extra bed will never be superfluous, especially if it can be "disguised" as a cozy sofa in the kitchen. Collapsible models are often as comfortable to sleep as beds, but save space.

Unfortunately, it will not work to put such a structure next to a dining table, but it can become part of a recreation area - next to a bookcase or in front of a TV. Fits perfectly into a studio apartment.

In the kitchen space, it is far from always possible to find a free corner to place upholstered furniture there. But if there is such an opportunity, corner sofas will help transform the room and make the most of the possibilities of each square meter.

Such models can include storage or have a minimalistic design, like a bench. The optimal solution is a copy with three seats and drawers on the sides, which are convenient to use next to the table.

If the kitchen has a bay window, you can purchase a sofa that adjusts to its geometry. True, it is easier to make them to order than to look for goods with suitable dimensions.

Curved corner furniture is much less common. On the one hand, it takes up more space. On the other hand, it smoothes corners and makes the area visually "friendlier". But the most important thing is that such a solution looks out of the box, helping to diversify the design.

Where to place the sofa in the kitchen?

The location of the sofa depends on its purpose, furniture set and geometry of the kitchen. It is necessary to think over the layout so that the object does not interfere with free movement, but at the same time is in a place convenient for residents.

Straight models can be installed along a free wall or under windows, and corner models, respectively, can be placed in a corner. If the kitchen set includes an island countertop, a small sofa will look good on the side opposite to the work area. However, even a freestanding product will fit into a spacious interior and help with zoning.

With narrow geometry, it is recommended to arrange kitchen furniture along one wall, and a table and a compact sofa along the other. This solution is more profitable than chairs, which only split up the space, and can be used as storage facilities.

In a kitchen with a large area, the sofa does not have to be combined with the dining room, as it is suitable for the relaxation area. A very narrow room will not seem like a drawback if at the end along the walls you put two seats opposite each other - an image inspired by the romance of cafes or trains.

Materials and upholstery

Due to the close proximity to the kitchen, increased requirements are put forward for the materials of the sofa. It is necessary to take into account temperature changes, high humidity, as well as the possibility of a drop of fat or food.

The most stylish and practical options for the frame are durable woods, which include beech, oak or cheaper pine. At the same time, a special varnish coating will protect their surface from the negative effects of the environment. But you can always choose a budget type, for example, chipboard. Just keep in mind that the service life of such an alternative is short - about five years.

As for upholstery, traditional leather has no rivals. It has aesthetics, a variety of colors, as well as practicality, does not absorb odors and is easy to clean. The same cannot be said about natural fabrics. Cotton, linen, silk modifications are not suitable for the kitchen, as they are difficult to clean. But the same textile is acceptable as a cover: it can be removed for washing or replaced, thereby inexpensively updating the design.

When it comes to visual design, you need to focus on the chosen style. We only note that the sofa can become a bright accent or merge with the space. Pillows in the kitchen are extremely rare, but their presence will only "revive" the atmosphere.

Style solutions

Even the smallest sofa is a noticeable part of the interior, so you need to responsibly approach its design, taking into account the patterns of style. This applies to decorative elements and design features of the model.

In a classic-style kitchen, subject composition plays a huge role, when the central object is chosen around which the interior is built. A stationary large sofa made of wood with a beautiful texture and carvings may well qualify for this role, if the area of the room is large enough. In this version, leather upholstery or textiles with a restrained pattern will look great.

For a more modern interpretation of the classics, you can stop at corner or combined options with storage places - here other items will help create the desired impression of the model.

The coating can have a natural texture or be painted white. The color scheme should reflect the overall palette of the room.

In such an interior, you can fit a model of any design: from a sofa with bends to standard compact specimens. The origin of the material is not important, its practical properties and beautiful texture are much more important.

Monochromatic textiles, in harmony with curtains or other part of the interior, will look more appropriate than a richly decorated fabric. It is recommended to choose natural light shades that will create the most comfortable atmosphere.

This trend is characterized by snowy colors, the dominance of natural coatings, minimalism, but at the same time - real comfort. Laconic sofas with leather upholstery will look very natural and light.

The people of the Nordic countries demonstrate their unique approach to creating objects, making them as practical, functional, and also accessible as possible. Models with built-in drawers of any geometry and a woolen blanket as a style accent will fit into this concept.

The industrial style loves the open-space concept, which assumes the absence of partitions between the main areas, maximum comfort and a large number of seats.

In such a multifunctional room, it would be quite appropriate to look at a large sofa next to the kitchen set, which serves as a resting place. It can also serve as a partition, dividing the kitchen and living room.

In order to maintain an authentic interpretation of the style, it is recommended to opt for a design with leather upholstery or purchase an antique. The presence of small traces of time will give the subject depth.

High-tech style requires appropriate solutions. Corner models with bends, benches or other options for unusual shapes will ideally fit into such an interior. In this case, the coating can be glossy, and the upholstery can be leather.

Since high-tech kitchens are often built on contrasting shades, you can choose a sofa in white, gray, brown or even black.

At first glance, it may seem that a sofa for a small kitchen is too bulky and absolutely unnecessary element that will only take away precious square meters. But in some situations, this is a more profitable purchase than a few chairs or armchairs. The following recommendations will help you choose the right model:

1. Corner views, although they save space, rarely find a free corner in small sizes. In this case, straight sofas along the wall are perfect.
2. Ideally, if you manage to put it under the window, since other objects will not fit here besides it.
3. Try to select options with the minimum amount of detail. A sofa without armrests and pillows will attract less attention. But the most optimal solution would be wall-mounted structures that do not form a gap.
4. With enough storage, it is better to stay on a sofa bench with free space under the seats.
5. A sofa in a small kitchen should not stand out in color. It is better if it merges with the wall, forming a monolithic volume with it.

A beautiful sofa in the kitchen is comfortable, cozy and aesthetically pleasing. The variety of assortment allows you to choose a model for any interior, even the smallest.
