Step 1: Materials used

At first I cut Phaneur by the desired size. One billet was 2 cm thick, and the second 3 cm.

Step 2: Device Mechanism

In a local metal store, I purchased a metal rod with a diameter of 2 cm and a rod with a thread M 27, as well as a pair of washers and nuts. In addition, I purchased a flat billet with a thickness of 4 mm and a 6 cm wide. These are all metal components that we need.

Take wooden oak bars and use them as guides. For a carving rod, I welded two nuts to a flat billet and attached it under the table with screws (see photo).

On the outer sponge, I decided to add a flat blank, which I mentioned earlier. This will provide additional stability for the entire design.

It is very important that all elements are located on the same line, otherwise the vice will not work.

I also welded the puck to the rod with a carvings. This is necessary so that the outer sponge is also moved by turning the rod. Without this, the sponge will remain in place, and move only manually.

Step 3: Processing on the lathe

For the rotating head, I glued several billets from cherry and oak. Then the required shape came on the lathe. The result obtained turned out to be quite acceptable. Next, with the help of the bit, I made a deepening under the nut. On the drilling machine, I drilled a hole with a diameter of 2 cm for the handle. The hole turned out a bit at an angle ...

Also on the outer sponge, I drilled holes with a depth of 3 cm for stops on a joinery. That is why I used for the outer sponge Phaneur thickness 3 cm. But a single row of stops on the joinery workbench will not benefit, so we still need to add other holes on this table. I will do it when I approach the final stage. I just have to take into account the mechanical part below.

Step 4: Ending

You can make a vice with your own hands from girlfriend. For this, screws with a thread of 20 mm and a length of 150 mm are used. They can be removed from the sports corner. The carving of such screws is designed for significant loads.
