Designer products made of wood and epoxy resin. A frozen miracle with their own hands: Learning to make decorations from epoxy resin. What to do if it is decided to make a table from epoxy resin alone: \u200b\u200bdetailed instructions

Epoxy resin is a substance known to everyone, someone at least a little familiar with the household. The material appeared on the market in the past century and has long won the sympathy of masters.

Resin is an absolutely universal substance and is used in many areas of construction, repair and household.

Modern science does not stand still and "epoxy" receives new compositions and, accordingly, new opportunities for use. However, one thing remains unchanged - the substance is never used in its pure form, it is combined with a hardener, which makes it very reliable.

There are many variations in the market, manufacturers make everything to make customers to choose the composition and volume of the substance.

Composition of resin

The resin itself is a synthetic production connection, which is efficiently used only in combination with a hardener, which contributes to the completion of the polymerization process of the substance.

Such a process is determining in terms of what properties and characteristics are the material. For this reason, it is possible to say with full confidence that the resin is not used as an independent substance.

In the course of combining different compositions with various hardeners, substances that have a variety of properties can appear.

For example, some may even be hard metal, and some on the contrary soft and consistency can resemble rubber or something like that.

Hardening "Epoxy" can occur in a fairly wide range of temperatures from -10 ° C to 200 ° C. In many respects, it depends on the type of hardener. At the same time, the finished material can be divided into 2 types of solidification - cold and hot.

Epoxy resin (glue) of cold curing is more often used in domestic purposes, or in production, where thermal impact is unacceptable.

Hot curing can be used when creating products for which the loads of various kinds are characterized, including temperature and mechanical.

This is performed in order for the polymerization of the substance a more dense crystal lattice, which will increase the solidness of the substance.

The hardener for the resin is used depending on the required proportions and the substances contained. The process of polymerization under the influence of a hardener is finite and cannot be reversible under the influence of various solvents or water.

It is important to remember that the finished material is a polymer, which determines the need to comply with the loyalty of proportions to obtain it.

In case of violation of the amount of resin or hardener, the finished product will lose properties and may be subject to exposure to the external environment, such as:

  • Moisture;
  • Temperature;
  • Chemical substances.

You should not forget that only the temperature and type of the hardening component itself affect the speed of the curing process.

Opinions that it is possible to achieve the final result due to the number of hardener - erroneously.

The accelerator of the polymerization process is the temperature. It turns out to increase the reaction temperature by only 10 ° C can accelerate solidification several times, depending on the type of substances.

This allows you to develop compounds that can work at a very different temperatures, while the polymerization process can be held in a variety of conditions.

The use of resin

Since the epoxy resin began to be actively used, its scope remained the same.

Only the compositions and properties of components and finished materials have changed. Resin is used in many industrial sectors, such as:

  • Electronics;
  • Electrical engineering;
  • Aviation;
  • Automotive production;
  • Mechanical engineering;
  • Shipbuilding;
  • Fiberglass production.

In these engineering and technical industries, "epoxica" is used as impregnation for fiberglass and glass blocks, as well as for connecting different elements.

Floor coatings - resin can have insulating properties. It is used in the construction of pools or basements.

Production of straight-color products - moisture resistance and strength, allows the use of resin in the finishing materials.

Table of epoxy resin: advantages and disadvantages

The choice in favor of the tables from the epoxy is made due to their undeniable advantages. Such products:

  • exclusive;
  • may have a variety of design;
  • allow the use of a variety of materials as decor;
  • adjust the formation of a decorative layer of various colors. At the same time, it can remain transparent. If desired, a phosphoresis paint can be added to the composition of the poured resin;
  • possess high mechanical properties;
  • do not deform;
  • can be operated in rooms with an elevated level;
  • well hold the form;
  • allow cleaning chemicals.

The disadvantages should be attributed a high price. Buy the table due to a slight amount is not possible. The formation of each product is carried out using a large amount of resin, which helps to increase the cost. It is also worth noting high requirements for compliance with manufacturing technology. A minor retreat can provoke air bubbles.

How to make a supporting design for countertops: Highlights

The frame can be made of metal either tree. When performing work, wooden tables with epoxy resin are sufficiently popular, since in this case it is not necessary to use the welding machine to connect separate items. The form and size of the reference design are selected taking into account the dimensions and the form of the future table top.

Attention!If the table is without a reference surface, this item can be skipped.

How to properly prepare a form for fill: a sequence of actions

The base of the countertop can consist of separate elements go to represent a solid canvas. In the latter case, the fill of the composition will be carried out exclusively at the corners and in the existing openings with the formation of the characteristic figure. Works are performed in the following sequence:

Illustration Description of action

Depending on the selected option, a form for fill is formed. The edges of the inner surface of the form cover with a dense film so that the frozen composition is well behind the base of the form.

We establish the prepared formwork on the basis. We place the decorative elements inside. Degrease the contour all the joints, whose tightness should be ensured before the fill.
We glue with adhesive all mating surfaces, carefully controlling the quality of the compound being formed. For this purpose it is worth using silicone sealant.

How to prepare an epoxy resin for pouring countertops: Observe the instruction

To prepare the composition you should mix both components. It is very important to observe the proportion recommended by the manufacturer and mix everything thoroughly so that the resin has a suitable consistency. It is worth calculating in advance which amount of resin will need.

Tip!When using special mixers for making a solution, work on small revolutions to prevent the resin saturation with air bubbles.

How to pour an epoxy resin table top: process features

If the thickness of the formable layer is less than 5 cm, the composition can be pouring in one time. For thinner products, two layers are required. The second should be poured after 1-2 days after the fill of the first, but before the first layer fully solids. To eliminate the formation of voids in the corners of the future product, they should be mixed in advance by the prepared solution.

Attention!To form a fine trickle, you can use a thin stick, which is omitted in the form in the process of filling the resin.

We remove all bubbles that rose to the surface. We cover the finished tabletop to eliminate the random hit of foreign objects. We expect to completely dry the composition.

We offer to watch a video in which it is described how to fill with an epoxy resin countertop:

Finish processing is worth exposing all surfaces of the table top. Do not use a coarse sandpaper, as it will be difficult to polish the surface. It should work at low speed to prevent the countertops overheating.

Tip!In the processing zone during polishing, pour water to ensure timely heat removal and prevent the circles.

Useful recommendations for working with epoxy resin and safety

When making tables made of wood and epoxy resin, it should be remembered that:

  • in the conditions of high humidity, the composition is hard hard. The likelihood of the formation of bubbles on the surface is significantly increased;
  • increase polymerization rate by increasing the air temperature in the room. It is not recommended to produce direct heating: the formed coating may be brightened.

Attention!Epoxy resin toxic, and therefore the fill of the composition should be performed in a well-ventilated room.

To ensure your own safety should also:

  • perform the fill of the composition in gloves and special clothing;
  • when grinding the finished surface, work in protective glasses and respirators;
  • if you get a drop drops on the skin, it should be removed immediately with water and soap or denatured alcohol.

How to care for the epoxy resin table: Useful Tips

For an epoxy countertop as long as possible preserved its presentable appearance and strength characteristics, it is necessary to maintain it properly. It is advisable to use dry soft cloth for care. Preferred wool and flannel. Strong pollution can be removed using a wet cloth, and then the surface should be wiped out dry. The remaining droplets of water can provoke the appearance of spots.

Attention!The use of compositions containing alcohol or acetone is unacceptable.

The drop in heavy items should be avoided on the surface of the table of liquid glass. Hot mugs and plates are better to put on a special stand.

It often happens that even a strong table surface has acquired an unsightly appearance. Or you want to make some kind of highlights in standard factory furniture after the repairs made. For masters, preferring creative solutions, there is a wonderful way out: an epoxy resin countertop made by hand. At the same time, such a countertop perfectly fit into the interior of any room: the main thing is to choose the right decorative details and arrange accents.

Advantages and disadvantages of camegrounds from epoxy resin

Epoxy resin is a unique material using the properties of which, you can create real masterpieces, from miniature decorations to the finishing of large surfaces, such as countertops and even the floors.

Pouring from epoxy is a two-component material consisting of a resin and hardener. One of the most remarkable properties of the fill is the preservation of the original volume after drying. It covers the surfaces with a uniform transparent layer without forming cracks or bulges. Therefore, using epoxy resin, you can any surface, whatever complex configuration, it is neither, to transform into a real work of art.

It can be covered with surfaces with a pre-pattern or ornament, as well as with small-dimensional decorative elements spread over surfaces. At the same time, the table surface will be an interesting 3D image made by an individual project.

The countertop covered with epoxy resin, in addition to spectacular species, acquires a number of advantages in operation in front of a regular wooden or plastic surface:

  • The coating during drying does not give a shrinkage and acquires a perfectly smooth surface;
  • It has good resistance to mechanical damage - dents from shocks, cuts or chips;
  • Excellent moisture resistance, which is important for kitchen surfaces;
  • It is not afraid of the aggressive impact of most cleaning chemicals;
  • Not subject to destruction under the influence of ultraviolet rays;
  • Does not need the use of expensive household chemicals for care.

The main disadvantages that have epoxy resin for filling countertops include:

  • With a sharp decrease in temperature appearance in the depths of the "white flakes";
  • Under the influence of high temperatures, it may be isolated during evaporation toxin;
  • When cooking, the fill need accuracy in proportions to obtain the desired result;
  • The need for strict compliance with precautions during operation.

In order to remove the flakes that appeared during the hypudition from the table surface, it is possible to warm it up to 50-60 degrees. And avoid evaporation of harmful substances with epoxy surface, if you cover it with a layer of protective transparent varnish, for example - yacht.

Types Coppers from epoxy resin

Epoxy resin countertops can be several types:
  • Fully from epoxy, without a reference surface;
  • Coated epoxy resin bases of wood, chipboard or other material;
  • Combined - alternating wooden fragments and resin.

Countertop without a reference surface, only from epoxy resin, can be performed for an elegant magazine or coffee table, which is not expected to give a large load. It will look original if they pour the epoxy resin beautifully laid out in the form of an ornament from dried flowers or any other materials. You can also add multi-colored or monochrome glitter to transparent fill.

In the second case, epoxy resin for pouring countertops serves as a decorating and protective layer for the base from another material. As the basis, an old table top can be used, a wooden array or a panel surface, a multiplex.

The base can be of any form - a rounded or flattened lines and with angles. The main thing is to create for the base of the sides necessary for the pouring of the height, so that after frozen the table top had smooth and smooth side surfaces.

As a wooden basis, you can take an array with a natural structure, or artificially decorated with its carvings, milling, marketer. In addition, the old countertop can after careful cleaning from the old paint and polish, paint and decorate with small pebbles, coins, drunks, even buttons.

We make yourself a countertop

Since the cameground from epoxy can be done with the basis of or without it, then consider both options - everyone has its own characteristics.

The countertop, made only from epoxy resin without the base, looks very effectively due to its transparency and splashes of decorative elements. With certain skills, such a countertop can be made with the most intricate outlines and the original 3D pattern in the array of frozen resin.

Make a transparent worktop using glass as a shape:

  • the desired size and shape of the glass is thoroughly cleaned, dried and degreased with acetone;
  • before the fill, the surface of the glass is rubbed with wax mastic, which is polished after frosting;
  • aluminum corners are used as portors for shapes, the inner surface of which is treated with a paraffin-turpentine mixture - this will make it easily remove the frozen countertop from the form;
  • corners are attached to the bottom surface of the glass with the help of window dressing.

Another option is also possible when the table top is completely made from epoxy resin, then inserted into the frame from the material that is suitable for the style of the material.

In order for the fill to froze properly, there should be 2-3 days. Prior to that, you can not remove the tabletop from the form.

In order not to drill holes in the frozen resin for fastening the legs, refer to it in advance, by running out the place of future mounts and strengthening small cuts into the form of a diameter of the required diameter. After frozen, the segments are removed, and the attachments for the legs are screwed into their place.

A table top on a wooden basis is simpler, since the resin for tabletops is poured on the already prepared surface. At the same time, as in the case of a glass form, sides are made along the edges of the table top - they may be subsequently removed. And you can apply the option when wooden sides are part of the table top, and the resulting "bath" is poured by a resin.

The process of fill with epoxy resin is not so complex, but requires accuracy when working

Table tops look very beautiful, where wooden pieces alternate with transparent inserts. To do this, you can also use glass as the basis on which wooden fragments are laid out, and the distances between them are poured with epoxy fill.

If you plan to use the old board as the basis, then work should be carried out in two stages: first in the board, there are some deepening cavities and cracks, which are then poured with a tinted liquid epoxy resin. After the first layer is frozen, the entire table-top is poured, while the recesses covered earlier are beautifully highlighted on the transparent surface.

After the work on the pouring is over, it is necessary to protect the surface at the time of frozen from moisture, dust and insects - they can significantly spoil all the work. To do this, over the tabletop should be pulled by polyethylene, reinforced on a pre-prepared framework.

After complete crystallization of the material, the surface is polished and covered with a protective varnish.

Rules for operation with epoxy resin

There are several rules that need to be strictly observed when working with epoxy resin:

  • old surfaces before the fill required to carefully clean from old paint, varnish, degrease and polish;
  • if this is a new board, it is necessary before work thoroughly dry and polish sandpaper;
  • when preparing an epoxy fill with a hardener, you must first measure the required number of resin, and then add a hardener into it, strictly observing the proportion and order of mixing components;
  • it is necessary to stir the fill very carefully, but without sharp movements, avoiding the formation of air bubbles;
  • all work must be carried out in a ventilated room;
  • since the resin is difficult to be removed from the surfaces, the floor is better noted with polyethylene or paper;
  • to work with epoxy, you should remove the hair under the cap and wear a cotton costume - any vile or hair that fell on a flooded surface will spoil it;
  • you should not work on the fill of the countertops in a room with high humidity or not breathing, the air temperature should be at least + 22 ° C;
  • it is impossible to accelerate the process of crystallization of epoxy with the help of a constructional hair dryer - it boils at temperatures above 60 ° C, forming numerous bubbles.

The fill of the tree should be uniform and neat

Conclusion

Not even having experience in carpentry art, a person is completely able to make a countertop from epoxy resin.

The main condition for success is a clear adherence of the instructions for the preparation of fill, compliance with the safety rules and the procedure for performing work. Fantasize, create - and enjoy the results of your work!

Photo examples

Today I will show one of the most frequent epoxy resin applications - fill cracks on the blanks.

Indeed, in most cases, due to cracks, we immediately take such a material. For further work it is not used. On the example of such a cracking trimming of a pine timber, Master-Samelkin will demonstrate how this problem can be corrected.

Moreover, it is not easy to correct, but even give the future product more interesting and uniqueness.

Let's start.

To work, we will need:
1. Pine timber with a crack;
2. Bulgarian (it is better to use a chain saw);
3. Disk for a grinder;
4. Epoxy resin;
5. Koler;
6. Glue for wood;
7. Scotch;
8. Tung oil;
9. Lathe;
10. primer oil;
11. Emery paper;
12. Rule and pencil.

First you need to decide on the size of the future products.

The master measured the desired value, marks and cuts a piece of timber. With this part of the pine will continue to work further.
To achieve a more interesting effect, cracks on this bar, it is necessary to expand a little in chaotic order. Then hesitate from the darkened layer of wood, which under the resin usually looks not very cool. The author firmly fixes the wooden billet in the vice and begins to slowly give it additional "flaws".

Accordingly, such an operation is done on both sides of the bar.

To dormit the new and expanding the cracks already available on the bar, the master uses the Bulgarian. In general, for such a processing of cracks, probably, a chain saw would come better. In principle, it is possible to work with a tree like a sculptor with plaster. But if you do not have such a tool (as in the author), then you have to be content with a three-gone disk on the Bulgarian. In general, it turned out not bad.

Preparation for the pouring of the resin.
During the sealing of the workpiece that the master is usually produced by means of thin MDF, it is better to initially glue the tape so that glue with MDF does not get into the cavity of the fill. The author sticks on a piece of MDF on both sides of the bar. Then he tightens all this case for stronger bonding.

That's what happened after drying the glue.

Epoxy resin is extremely fluid, so it is necessary to approach the seal process with all seriousness.
Subtleties at the fill itself are quite a bit. Since the resin volume is completely small, so it is not particularly worried about the conditions. However, if the micropulings are not needed in the casting, which in any case will be distinguished by the pores of the wood, it is possible that all this is a good thing about to grind the thin layer of the same resin, and retain this layer for several hours.

The process of mixing and scrolling the resin Artline Crystal, in general, the same as in most epoxy resins. It is worth only to remember the proportions and comply with the manufacturer's recommendations. The proportions are as follows: 2 parts of the resin per part of the hardener (2: 1). The author uses weights to more accurately determine the required amount of each component of epoxy glue.

Next, add the kel and thoroughly mix the resin.

Fill.
This billet will have to fill in two navigations, since only after hardening the first casting it will be possible to turn the blank and pour epoxy from the reverse side.

Of course, it is possible to use various options for tinting from different sides of the product, or it is possible to refuse it from it, because the resin is very transparent after the frozen and it can also be a kind of pishka product. But still, with the addition of bright colors, pretty banal wood, still becomes much more and more interesting. So the field for experiments is completely endless.

It is very profitable to apply a rich pine structure to the string of such products, it is very profitable, for it can be found quite large in size monolithic blanks, which is very valued at different points. Almost on any sawmill, you can order a ram of any section, dissolve it on the workpiece and leave them to crack to acceptable humidity. After that, all this is foul and put into work. Thus, the raw materials can be saved very cool. Of course, it is advisable to find a good tree without fungus and other flaws. Then it will become excellent material for work and creativity. Unfortunately, in the middle of Russia, there are quite serious problems with this. The whole building forest is very poor quality, but still some elements can always be beat, and vice versa, wood flaws to issue pros, for some kind of high in products. Again, you can remove all these flaws in the same way and also pour the resin, for example.

Now we will process the preparation of tung oil.

In the end, we get this:

Now we will make another plate.

The resin in the turkey is like a putty in the joinery, just the decoration is. The only thing, of course, the use of epoxy resin is already becoming purely decorative. That is, there is from the same cups, plates, dishes and other resin applications are no longer worth it. Although I, honestly, I can not imagine how it could be used for its intended purpose. For me it is clear that it is a purely decor. But nevertheless, sometimes people ask about it and accounted for everyone.

I also want to recall that while working with a resin, during sharpening, or grinding these products, a lot of dust stands out, which is pretty light. It can stand long enough in the air, so using respiratory protection means is simply necessary. Although the respiration should be protected in principle, if any work with the tree, but also to clean the cleaning of all these sawdust and dust is preferably, of course every time after work.

The author did not rebuild the first billet from the inside, because he made a small procee for a cartridge as a habit of a cartridge, which for the soft breed of wood could lead to the loss of the workpiece at the sharpening. Therefore, in time sprouts of the second blank, the master has already used Lunet. And not so much to center the workpiece, as for pressing it to the cartridge.

The form of the product here turned out to be just profitable, and the rubber wheels of the Lune did not give the workpiece to fly the cartridge, because it is necessary to fix the blank from the pine, as a result of the same softness of this breed of wood.

Again, with Lunetic you can work much faster, removing more material in one pass. Of course, after dismantling a luna, the outer surface of the workpiece will need to be slightly sublipped, because, no matter how cool, the wheels leave a certain mark from it. But this is not the worst, compared to what without him. The workpiece can be simply losing, or cracks the same ledge.

During the inner boring of the second billet, as planned, it was possible to get to the lower casting of the resin, which of course has already gave the product more logically finished look.

Also, continuing experiments, the author's second workpiece has already decided to cover with tinted oil, which also betres the pine structure even more expressiveness. The only thing that is found, the toned oil immediately showed all the small shocks of the grinding of the product. So with such coatings, you can always test your grinding quality.

In this article, you will see a step by step to see the use of technology that combines the use of innovative material (epoxy resin) and traditional (wood). This technology allows you to create truly incredible creations, and the tree can potentially be replaced by any other material (fabric, traffic jams, metal, etc.),

1) After you have chosen the wood that you like more (the thickness should be about 2-3 cm), polish the tree with the emery paper. The smaller the graininess (300-400), the greater the surface will be "closed", reducing the leakage of the resin. And thus will continue the more natural color of wood. If you use elastic paper for greater grain (60-80), the tree tone will be darker (depending on taste!).

2) Split a piece of wood into several parts, and then blow the wood surface with compressed air to remove dust and sawdust. If there is no such possibility, then just treat with a soft brush.

3) Let the tree dry in the sun (or in the cold season, put closer to the battery or heaters) within 24 - 48 hours. Wood should avoid contact with water at least 24 hours.

4) Now we are ready to create a masterpiece!

5) Prepare a wooden frame (table shape) 3-4 cm in height. It will serve only for protection and shape, and after will be deleted. Therefore, do not waste too much time (:

6) Take a nylon sheet or polyethylene for packaging and place it inside the frame so that the edges are as close as possible to the form. Since the resin does not stick to polyethylene, it will be easy to remove it from the mold after hardened. You can also use adhesive tape. The resin will have a nylon shape, so be accurate at this stage! Spread the materials on a completely even working surface, making sure that the nylon has no breaks (you can use the adhesive tape in this case).

7) Place pieces of wood inside the form, as you like more. You can also put the shape of stones, pieces of metal and so on.

8) Mix a certain amount of resin (a + b) (for example, 300 g) and brush carefully treat it from all sides. Then turn the wood (using gloves) and continue to process. Be careful to completely impregnate the most uneven parts (for example, Corra). This operation is needed for the "seal" of the tree to avoid the appearance of bubbles in the resin when the tree is immersed in it. Leave the treated wood in a finite for further fill position, and wait until the resin on the surface harms (at least 8 hours).

9) Prepare the rest of the resin, thoroughly mixing it in a large container. Give her to relax within 10-15 minutes.

10) Pour the resin evenly to the desired level. Use a hairdryer (or better, industrial hairdryer) to remove bubbles from the surface of the resin (when heated bubbles burst). After 24 hours, the table is ready to remove from the form!

Notes.

Nylon (cellophan) is the most economical solution. But if it is used, there is a chance that the surface of the table will be released irregular due to the inefficient tension of the nylon or simple folds. To then align the edges and the surface of the table, you can use sandpaper, grinding machine or saw. Once uneven parts are removed, the surface will become opaque. But do not worry! Just apply a thin layer of resin with a brush to bring the surface of its initial transparency.

If you want a completely perfect surface of the table, you will have to buy a form of plexiglas and use it as a basis where the resin is poured. In this case, the manufacturing process itself becomes faster.

Resin consumption. If you make a clean resin table (60x60x4), you need more than 10 kg of resin. But since half the volume of this table is occupied by wood, only about 6 kg is consumed.

What resin choose?
We advise you to carefully treat the selection of epoxy resin, as it depends on the quality of the resin how much your table from the tree and epoxy resin. The work is to be serious, and subsequently will be sorry for all the conditions spent, if the quality of the resin is not high enough and after a couple of weeks you will see scratches on a carefully polished surface. We are proud of our resins, which is why we can confidently recommend to you our transparent epoxy resin "multifunctional", produced in Italy, look at its main characteristics here:
By the way, all the tables of the Italian brand Bottega Maestra were made from our transparent epoxy resin of high quality, however, handsome ?? (www.bottega-maestra.com).
