How to stretch fabric on the ceiling in an apartment. DIY fabric stretch ceiling without punctures. Installation of fabric stretch ceilings

Reading time ≈ 3 minutes

At the stage of finishing the ceiling, you need to focus on finding the best one for you from the many options. This choice may well be a handmade fabric ceiling. This modern alternative has many advantages that justify its popularity.

How practical can a fabric ceiling be?

This question worries many. To understand the difference and the main advantages, you need to know the main thing about it:

  • it withstands temperature well;
  • satisfactory strength;
  • simple installation that requires a minimum of time (see video);
  • and, of course, a superb appearance.

Types of fabric ceiling installation

This is an important point to be careful with. After all, when choosing fabric stretch ceilings, you need to provide that you will need to install them yourself. Therefore, you need to realistically assess your capabilities. For example, a U-shaped profile is mounted much faster and easier than a clip-on one. It all depends on desire, abilities, talents.

If you decide on a simple option, then you will need:

  1. Shtapik;
  2. Wedge;
  3. Decorative insert.

We must not forget that this particular type, although easy to install, is not as strong and durable as clip-on.

If your choice has settled on the second type of profile, keep in mind that the structure and system are different. In the photo materials, you can see the main differences between the two installation systems.

Let's go directly to work

First of all, we proceed to the first task - we determine the horizontal level. For this we use any type of special meter (laser / water level).

The next step is to measure the corners of the room in order to accurately install our clip profile system.

We fix the baguette and stretch the fabric according to the principle: from a fixed angle to the sides. Now we proceed with the installation of the second opposite corner. In this way, you should have two base points already anchored, which is essentially half the job.

Next, one by one and slowly, we fix the fabric cloth between the insert and the profile. Thus, we stretch the fabric base over the entire ceiling area. Your activity can be considered completed, the only thing that will remain is to fix the decorative elements, install fixtures for lighting. The practical part of our task can be considered completed.

Arrangement of the ceiling area is a rather extensive topic that is included in the concept of repair. Today, the development of technology pleases millions of people with the availability of original ideas that allow them to solve individual design problems on their own. And at the same time, by the way, to save money, and at the same time to get moral satisfaction from the creative process.

Few will have to dispute the fact that it is high time to give up whitewashing-painting (at least, if we are not talking about closets, entrances of houses or outbuildings). This means that new methods should replace the "grandmother's" methods. And they are. These are stretch ceiling structures.

At about the same time, PVC stretch ceilings and fabric ceilings impregnated with a polyurethane compound entered the market. What are their fundamental differences, pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages? Let's compare.

The elasticity of PVC film is definitely a plus. Some users have already encountered the legendary water bubble that forms when the room is flooded from above (a call-in team arrives and releases the accumulated water, after which the ceiling takes its previous shape). Fabric ceilings do not have this dignity.

But on the other hand, unlike PVC, fabric stretch ceilings can be repainted many times with water-based paint. The weave of the polyester thread is such that layer by layer painting is carried out without any visible imperfections: the ceiling fabric looks like new.

There is another important advantage of fabric ceilings. To install them, you do not need to heat the room with heat guns to a temperature of + 60 ... + 70 ° C. This means that your decoration (decor and wallpaper), furniture, and other household items will not be affected. Agree, an important "detail", especially when you consider that in some apartments and offices quite a lot of money was spent on furniture and finishing materials.

The fabric ceiling structure can easily be placed in rooms where there is little or no heating. Polyvinyl chloride clearly does not agree to such conditions - give it a temperature of + 18 ... + 20 ° C, not lower! In a cool atmosphere, it simply deforms and deteriorates irreversibly. As for fabric ceilings, they can easily withstand the temperature range of -40 ... + 80 ° C without compromising their performance.

Fabric ceilings are durable, practical, highly fireproof and functional. In addition, manufacturers offer a fairly wide range of designs (color, pattern). In stores, ceiling fabric is sold in rolls of 5 m wide. It is easy to calculate the required footage and buy as much as you need without waste.

And, finally, the most important advantage: it is easy to install a stretch ceiling made of fabric by yourself, without resorting to the services of a professional team. This, if you work together or three, will take a maximum of 2-3 hours.

Work order

There is a simple order of steps that must be performed sequentially one after the other, without running ahead and not mixing one with the other. If you want to get a high-quality result as soon as possible, follow the recommendations.

We prepare a baguette, self-tapping screws, a decorative plug in advance

A baguette is a fastening profile for mounting the frame around the perimeter of the room. The ceiling fabric will hold on to the frame. Material: wood strip, metal corner or plastic strip. Both a purchased version and a home-made product will do (many men are fond of carpentry work, so they often have everything they need at their disposal). The optimal dimensions are 40x50 or 50x50 cm.

The decorative cap acts as a border that is visible from the outside. It is stuffed after stretching the fabric at the point where it joins the walls. The function is the same as the skirting board, which covers the edge of the glued wallpaper strips at the bottom of the walls.

Self-tapping screws or screws are needed in order to ensure a point-like attachment of the fabric to the walls. Holes are drilled in advance, where factory-made plastic bushings or homemade wooden plugs are placed. It is easy to drive self-tapping screws into them with a screwdriver. With a large area, it is certainly better to use a self-tapping screw, but in a 5-meter "Khrushchev" kitchen, you can do it manually, using an ordinary screwdriver.

We calculate the area of the canvas

As mentioned above, no special wisdom is required to stretch fabric ceilings. No heat warming is needed to stretch the canvas. All you need to know is how to correctly calculate the area. We offer a simple, time-tested formula: (room width + 15 cm) x (room length + 15 cm) = fabric area in square meters.

It is easiest to work when the ceiling is strictly square or rectangular. But sometimes there are projections on the ceilings, the room may have bay windows, columns, decorative niches, ceiling embrasures, windows and other "non-format". Also remember to cut small holes where the electrical wiring for the pendant lights and chandeliers will be.

In these areas, you need to carefully measure and cut the fabric accordingly. If possible, it will go without seams. However, on large areas, sometimes it is necessary to mount complex seam structures - this is not a problem, only you will need a little more time and more attention in order not to make a mistake with the cut.

Don't forget about lighting devices

In places where lighting devices are removed from the ceiling, it is necessary to install a thermal insulating gasket. It has a round slot through which the electrical wire will pass. The gasket provides fire safety.

Plastic inserts are installed before the tension of the common web starts.

Checking the set of tools for work

Once again, we carefully check the list of required tools:

  • water or laser level;
  • electric percussion drill or hammer drill;
  • screwdriver (screwdriver);
  • hammer;
  • scissors;
  • roulette;
  • grinder or hacksaw (for metal or wood - depending on the material of the baguette);
  • construction knife.

Now let's act

Step 1. Using a level, outline the line for attaching the baguette. The appearance of the future ceiling in a stretched form will depend on the accuracy at this stage. Determine the height in such a way that the fabric is as close as possible to the "native" building ceiling, unless you want, for some reason, to visually lower the height of the room. Although this also happens (in the case of complex structures consisting of several levels).

Step 2. Fill a baguette around the perimeter of the room.

Step 3. Temporarily remove the chandeliers and lamps.

Step 4. Pull on the pre-cut ceiling fabric.

Step 5. Through the holes in the thermal insulating rings, pull out the electrical wires from the ceiling lights. Install chandeliers and lamps in their places, fix carefully.

Step 6. Carefully nail a decorative plug on the entire frame.

Step 7. Install a decorative cover in the places of bay windows, ceiling embrasures, windows, etc. (If there are any). Sometimes on the sloped ceilings of private houses or summer cottages there are windows that have special frames - they need to be removed before stretching the fabric ceiling, and then put back at the end of the work.

Stretch fabric ceilings do not require special maintenance. They are unpretentious, and at the same time they are ready to please you for many years. In production, the technology of knitted weaving is used. This means that the elasticity is sufficient for the fabric to "breathe". But painting in a different color is quite real. Use water-based paint. It fits well, no cracks or sagging remains on the surface.

Textile stretch ceiling or seamless, is a fabric made of polyester yarn in knitted weaving, evenly impregnated with a mixture based on polyurethane, then dried and calendered. The ceiling sheet is produced in rolls of 5 meters wide and it is convenient because this size of the sheet makes it possible to install without seams and joints, thanks to which stretch fabric ceilings have become popular. Do-it-yourself installation of stretch fabric ceilings does not require individual adjustment to the configuration of the room, you just need to purchase the required footage and, without further processing the fabric, fix it in the mounting profile.

Installation of seamless stretch ceilings

Advantages and disadvantages

The installation of fabric stretch ceilings is notable for its convenience, since seamless ceilings are not afraid of a drop in temperature and, in terms of their strength characteristics, are close to traditional finishing.

Textured fabric with no need for priming.

Textile stretch ceilings have a number of advantages:

  • Smooth surface;
  • resistance to temperature extremes (-40 0 С + 80 0 С);
  • quick and easy installation process;
  • long service life;
  • high functionality;
  • high fire safety;
  • moisture resistance.

Well-executed in its appearance resembles a high-quality plastered one, which is its main advantage.

Attention! It is necessary to use luminaires with a maximum power of 50 W to avoid heating and deformation of the ceiling. This does not apply to energy saving and LED lamps.

The disadvantage of fabric ceilings is that it is easy to damage them with a sharp object, but if we consider the fact that everything must be treated with care, then the disadvantage exhausts its significance.

Types of fastening for seamless ceilings

Installation of stretch ceilings takes place without additional heating of the room, since the ceiling material does not expand when heated - they are installed quite simply and quickly.

To do this, you need to mount a baguette, which is of two types:

  • U-shaped profile;
  • clip-on.

U-shaped - wedge, used with glazing beads or wedges and a decorative insert. Such a system does not require accurate measurements, is fast in execution and relatively cheap, but when using it, it is possible to displace the lighting fixtures, since the canvas does not have clearly defined boundaries, the deformation of the canvas, which will not be subject to reinstallation.

Also, the wedge method gives a short warranty period, as a result of which it has become unpopular.

The clip method is most widely used in fastening textile ceilings.... Using clip fasteners, not without the help of a friend, of course, you can do it yourself, without a specialist, since this method is quite simple and does not take much time, and will also significantly reduce costs.

The clip fastening is made of durable plastic and is designed in such a way that no additional decors are required. This method is the main and most widespread method for fastening fabric ceilings, it is also easy and fast.

Using the clip method, the results will be much better than with the wedge (glazing) method, and your ceiling will also last much longer.

In the pictures below, you can see the differences between the two types of fastening.

When installing fabric stretch ceilings with your own hands, you can also watch the video. Relying on the advice of experienced professionals, you will be able to achieve the perfection of the premises and acquire the skills in carrying out repairs.

Installation steps

In order for the installation of a textile stretch ceiling to take place without surprises, the following sequence must be observed:

  • determine the horizontal level of the future ceiling (using a laser or water level);
  • measure the corners of the room for smooth joining of the profile;
  • install a baguette;
  • proceed with fasteners;
  • decor;
  • installation of lighting devices.

Installation of a profile is one of the most important stages in the installation of a stretch ceiling, which is responsible for the durability of the structure.

After fixing the baguette, we stretch the canvas, also sequentially, to get a good result, as can be seen in the diagram:

When securing textiles, a sequence is also needed:

  • sequential fixing of the corners of the ceiling;
  • fixing the ceiling to the center of the wall;
  • fastening in the center of each intermediate section;
  • decoration with a decorative overlay.

The result of successive actions will be a flat, correctly fixed ceiling in the fastening baguette.

To help those who first decided to carry out repairs on their own - there is a video on the page. The DIY installation process is simple, but requires accuracy and careful preparation.

Before starting the installation of the fabric ceiling, it is necessary to complete all dusty work, prepare the base well, because the service life of the coating and its appearance will depend on this, as well as determine the level of lighting fixtures and purchase them in advance.

After the installation is completed, it remains only to hide the ceiling mount with decor and mount the lighting fixture. Installation of chandeliers and other lighting fixtures is carried out by fixing a plastic ring in the center of the ceiling so that its center coincides with the fixing point of the lighting fixture, and the size of the ring was such that the decor of the chandelier would overlap it.

After gluing the ring, you need to make a hole in the center and attach the chandelier. Your ceiling is ready! Our congratulations!

Over time, the same interior of a room gets boring, there is a desire to change the design and make it not only beautiful and stylish, but also unusual, causing surprise and admiration. One of the possible ways of such an extraordinary change in the familiar interior is to decorate the ceiling, the most expressive and interesting option of which is to decorate the ceiling from fabric with your own hands.

Traditional types of ceiling decoration, from ancient whitewashing, painting it with enamels, wallpapering and ending with modern stretch and suspended ceilings, have already become familiar and do not cause much interest. Currently, there are a lot of different design solutions for finishing the ceiling with modern materials with a wide variety of colors, stylish designs and an interesting shape. The latest trend in ceiling decoration is the multi-level backlit ceiling. Stretch ceilings are also very popular.

Fabric stretch ceilings

Stretch ceiling has established itself as the most optimal option for finishing the ceiling, the result of which is the achievement of a stylish cozy interior. The main advantage of this type of finishing is a fairly reasonable price for the entire scope of work, ease and speed of installation. Not the least role is played by the absence of the need to clean the surface and prepare for the installation of the ceiling. Therefore, the room remains clean during the installation process, there is no dust and dirt, as when dismantling the ceiling and cleaning it from whitewash or wallpaper. In addition to all this, the building materials market offers a huge selection of textures and colors for stretch ceilings. If you want to change the design of the room, it is possible to easily remove the existing stretch fabric, replacing it with another desired one. The advantages of this type of ceiling finish include the following:

  1. easy care for it, it washes well and does not accumulate dust
  2. the absence of cracks on it with possible deformation or shrinkage of the house
  3. not afraid of moisture, flooding from the upper floors by neighbors
  4. does not emit extraneous odors, absolutely environmentally friendly
  5. completely fireproof, since non-combustible materials are used in its production
  6. preservation of the shade when exposed to sunlight
  7. durability and practicality

One of the types of stretch ceiling is a fabric ceiling, which today has become one of the new trends in fashionable design solutions for ceiling decoration. Finishing the ceiling with fabric can radically change the decoration of a room.

The fabric ceiling is a porous base impregnated with a polystyrene composition. As a result, the material is very durable, and the ceiling itself looks beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. Such stretch ceilings do not have seams, since the canvas can be up to 5 meters wide and there is no need to use welding. Complete absence of seams and gives an aesthetic appearance to the upper surface of the room.

The material can be both natural fabric and fiberglass or artificial. When using fiberglass, ceilings become more durable as a result of increased performance properties, which are able to experience and withstand exposure to all temperatures, both low and high.

In general, the installation of a stretch ceiling on a fabric base is no different from the installation of its PVC analogue, therefore, about the details of its installation.

Advantages of fabric ceilings

The fabric material is environmentally friendly and has different density and weight, is able to resist various types of bacteria, deterioration, mold. These properties allow it to be used in many types of buildings, up to street structures. High-quality fabrics allow you to expand the possibilities of designers, look great in almost all places in quality:

  • suspended ceilings in sports facilities - swimming pools, health centers, recreation centers
  • false ceilings in commercial buildings - supermarkets, shops, restaurants, nightclubs, beauty salons
  • finishing of ceilings in industrial buildings; at airports, train stations
  • sun-protection ceilings in car dealerships, game complexes, entertainment centers

The use of fabric for finishing the ceiling is due to the following properties:

  1. light weight and material flexibility
  2. the ability to apply images to it using photo printing
  3. the possibility of the necessary ventilation
  4. the possibility of fixing light devices in the fabric itself, as well as their installation above it

Applying various techniques of decorating art, you can achieve interesting and stunning effects - to express the play of light and shade in the numerous folds of the drapery, to emphasize it favorably. Using the difference in textures, various types of draperies, you can create an unusual and unique design of the ceiling, which brings a special flavor to the decoration of the room. The use of leather and beautiful materials for curtains will also be a good design.

DIY fabric ceiling decoration

The unusual and the new are always interesting. Human fantasy is truly limitless. Imagine a room with amazing red-burgundy roses on the white ceiling, you just can't take your eyes off! And it is quite easy to build such beauty; it will take 2-3 meters to decorate the ceiling with fabric, depending on the size of the ceiling of the room, high-quality fabric, for example, a German curtain.

Preparing the ceiling for fabric finishing

For gluing fabric and constructing a fabric ceiling, you must adhere to the following steps:

  • Plaster well and level the surface to achieve perfect surface smoothness.
  • Stretch tight, like a canvas on a stretcher. As a result, the existing irregularities can be hidden.

To complete these steps, you first need to clean the surface of the ceiling from any dirt, remove all cracks, crevices, seal them with putty and dry them. After that, sand with sandpaper, remove roughness.
There should not be any stains that can show through the fabric; they should be covered with a layer of nitro enamel or covered with a thin aluminum foil.
If there is oil paint on the surface, it should first be washed with water, to which soda has been added, and then thoroughly dry the surface. Then clean with sandpaper.

Ceiling installation: method 1

To install the fabric, you need to prepare a profile, one of its best types is aluminum, it is more durable and reliable. We fix the fabric in the middle in the profile, while leaving a margin - 5-6 centimeters of the fabric should protrude beyond the edges of the profile. With a small step we tighten the fabric, trying to align it as much as possible. The movement should start from the middle of the room to its corners, the direction of movement of the canvas should be in both directions. In the direction of travel, we fix the canvas in the baguette, at the end we fix it in the corners of the profile.

If there are folds on the fabric, you can easily remove them using a construction hairdryer. Warm up these places with smooth circular movements, while holding the hairdryer at a distance of 20 cm from the canvas, set the temperature to 180 degrees. After the installation is complete, we remove the pieces protruding from the edges of the profile, after which it remains only to install the decorative plugs.

Ceiling installation: method 2

Another interesting option for building a fabric stretch ceiling with your own hands is the following method. Prepare beams from wood with a cross-section of each corner 2x3, any construction workshop can quickly make them. Order the length of the timber by 50 centimeters more than is necessary according to measurements, since the corners of them are subsequently filed. Use Penatex to treat the beams and obtain the desired shade. You will also need Velcro (available at sewing stores) and 8 metal corners.

We are constructing a frame that will be suspended from the ceiling. We attach the hard side of the tape with a special stapler to the part of the bar that protrudes, having previously glued it to liquid nails. The back of the tape must be sewn along the perimeter to the front of the curtain.

The finished frame will be under the lamp, if it is not transparent, it is necessary to provide a high-power lamp, a flat 6-lamp will do. When choosing a thin or transparent fabric, normal lighting is sufficient.

It remains only to hang the resulting structure from the ceiling. It will look unusual if you use chains and hang the frame from the ceiling on them, and you can fix it to the ceiling using pipe holders. After screwing the hooks into the frame and installing it, the stretch ceiling is ready and looks just a real feast for the eyes! This design is very reliable and practical. In the event of distortions along the walls, an important point in the process of installing the frame on the chains is to adjust the suspension to the chain link in order to achieve parallelism in all corners.

A great convenience is the ability to easily remove the structure from the ceiling by removing one side of the chain from a pair of hooks. By lowering the frame from the ceiling, you can quickly and easily remove the fabric from the frame for washing when it gets dirty or replacing the fabric with another. You just need to remove the fabric from the Velcro. Fabric ceiling decoration can be used both in small rooms and in large rooms.

When preparing several options for fabric, the interior of the room can be changed very often. The drapery of the ceiling with a fabric looks very attractive and impressive, and most importantly, it is unique!

Stretch ceilings first appeared in Europe in the second half of the 20th century.

Since the end of the 90s, this technology has been applied in the countries of the former USSR. Since then, every year they have won the preferences of consumers and are a worthy alternative to decorating the ceiling space.

Why choose these ceilings?

Such consumer confidence in stretch ceilings is quite justified - after all, the latter have numerous advantages.

The man fixes the ceiling in the hall

Among them it is worth noting:

  • quick installation and cleanliness of work - a minimum of dust and dirt during installation, plus there is no need to move furniture to install the structure;
  • reliability of the structure - the ceiling does not crack and does not deform over time;
  • stretch ceilings "eat up" the small height of the room - about 5 cm versus 10-15 cm of suspended ceilings, which is especially important in the premises of the Soviet era;
  • moisture resistance - the materials from which such ceilings are made are not afraid of moisture. This is the only type of ceiling for which flooding by neighbors from above or a leaky roof is not at all terrible. Water can be drained or pumped out of the ceiling space without any problems, and your repair is saved;
  • durability - the material does not fade in the sun, and the ceiling will retain its original appearance for a long time. The warranty period for stretch ceilings starts from 10 years;
  • fire safety - the material from which stretch ceilings are made is not flammable;
  • versatility - this ceiling looks great in different types of rooms with different types of fixtures. You can always choose an acceptable option for a glamorous living room and for a strict executive office, for a high-tech house and for a classic-style apartment. It will perfectly show itself both in ordinary residential and office premises, and in rooms with high humidity (bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, etc.);
  • aesthetic appeal;
  • variety of textures and colors;
  • these ceilings do not absorb odors and do not smell themselves;
  • these ceilings are environmentally friendly, even if they are made of artificial materials - they do not emit harmful substances during operation;
  • ease of care - because the ceiling does not accumulate static electricity, it does not attract dust and is very easy to clean.

Of course, weighing all the pros and cons of installing stretch ceilings, you should also remember that they also have disadvantages. It:

  • rather high price in comparison with other types of ceilings;
  • these ceilings are afraid of damage from sharp objects and abrasive cleaning agents;
  • installation of some types of stretch ceilings is quite complicated and requires special skills and the availability of special expensive equipment;
  • some types of stretch ceilings are not suitable for unheated rooms.

Meticulous to note. Disadvantages regarding installation and fear of frost apply only to PVC (polyvinyl chloride) ceilings. Also, quite often you can come across "authoritative" arguments that stretch ceilings begin to sag some time after installation ( read more here-). If the material for such ceilings is chosen correctly, and the installation technology is strictly observed, then the risk of such a problem is reduced to almost zero.

The main advantages of this type of ceiling

There are two types of stretch ceilings - PVC ceilings and. And if the installation of PVC ceilings for non-professionals is extremely difficult, then do-it-yourself fabric stretch ceilings is a reality. Fabric ceilings occupy about a third of the stretch ceiling market, in comparison with their PVC counterparts, they have the following advantages:

  1. fabric stretch ceiling can be installed in almost any room without joining strips - the width of the material reaches 5 m;
  2. frost resistance - you can install a fabric ceiling in an unheated room;
  3. ease of installation - this type of ceiling can be mounted independently; installation requires a standard set of tools that every master has.

Of the disadvantages of fabric ceilings, it should be noted:

  1. higher price compared to PVC ceilings;
  2. a small variety of textures and colors - fabric ceilings have only a matte rough surface and a limited range of colors. You can put an image on them, but this will further raise their price.

The choice of material for work

Installation of fabric. Better to do it together

For the manufacture of fabric stretch ceilings, it is recommended to use two types of materials. The first is special knitted weaving fabrics made of synthetic materials, as a rule, these materials are offered by companies that sell and install stretch ceilings. The second type is a rough unpainted coarse calico, you can buy it in a fabric store, in the market, etc.

Special fabrics will cost you much more, but installing the ceiling will bring you a minimum of hassle. In almost all installation options, you will get a seamless ceiling, on which, if you wish, the manufacturer will pre-apply a drawing of any complexity. Coarse calico fabric will cost you much less, but you will have to tinker a lot with its preparation - pre-sew strips to fit the room, process the connecting seams. After installing the ceiling, the coarse calico will need to be primed and painted with special interior paints that are suitable for application to fabrics. In addition, rooms with high humidity are not suitable for such ceilings, because wet processing them will not only be difficult, but can also damage the appearance of the ceilings.

Before we consider what tools are needed for the job and how to install such a ceiling, we would like to recommend that you read these materials:

  1. About the comparison of this ceiling with PVC stretch ceilings (the advantages and disadvantages of both types are considered);
  2. (everything is also considered in sufficient detail).

What materials and tools are required for installation?

So, to make a fabric ceiling, you need the following tools:

  • construction stapler;
  • drill or perforator - depending on the material from which the walls are made;
  • set of drills;
  • special wallpaper spatula (fins);
  • construction knife;
  • scissors;
  • laser or water level.

Of the materials you will need:

  1. coarse calico - in an amount equal to the manufacture of a cloth of the size of the room plus 20 cm on each side;
  2. wooden blocks (glazing beads) measuring 40x50 or 50x50 mm - in an amount equal to the perimeter of the room;
  3. anchor - according to the number of wooden blocks. The size of the anchors and their type depend on the thickness and strength of the material from which the walls are made;
  4. assembly glue (shoe glue is best);
  5. tracing paper;
  6. glue for tracing paper;
  7. PVA glue;
  8. coarse calico primer;
  9. paint for dyeing coarse calico - most often they use acrylic or water-based paints;
  10. - in an amount equal to the perimeter of the room to cover the ceiling attachment point.

Meticulous to note. We deliberately do not mention in the article a sewing machine and a set of tools necessary for making a ceiling canvas. In the end, you do not have to master the passing professions of a cutter, seamstress-minder and ironer - specialized workshops are able to do such work for you quickly, efficiently and at a reasonable price.

Stage 1. We mark the ceilings

This stage is the most important of the entire scale of work, because the quality and correctness of the installation of the ceiling structure ultimately depends on the correct marking. To do this, make the first mark at a height of 4-5 cm from the ceiling (depending on what size bars you use) and project it onto all walls of the room. As a result, a horizontal line should be drawn on all walls of the room.

Advice. In order for the ceiling not to repeat the unevenness and slopes of the ceiling and walls in the room, you should project the first ceiling height mark on all walls of the room using a level.

Stage 2. We install glazing beads around the perimeter of the room

To install glazing beads, it is necessary to drill holes in the wall for the anchor. To do this, number all the shtapiki in the order of installation (apply the numbers with a marker). Then in each glazing bead drill a hole for attaching the anchor, attach all the bars in order to the line marked on the wall and transfer the marks to the wall through the drilled holes. Drill anchor holes in the walls. When using this technique, all the holes on the bars and walls will match. Install the selected type of anchors and fix the bars on them.

Useful information. In some sources, you can find the option of attaching glazing beads to a special wall profile for stretch ceilings. In this case, the glazing beads are not attached end-to-end, but after 7-10 cm. The method described in this article significantly reduces the cost of fastening technology and is widely used in the countries of the post-Soviet space.

Stage 3. Fixing the panel

At this stage, you will definitely need an assistant to fix the panel without distortions, and just supporting it will not hurt at all. For installation, use a construction stapler and assembly glue, Spread the glazing bead with glue, attach a cloth to it and press it with a fin in the corner of the junction of the bar with the wall. Pull the panel by the free part, holding the fin - the panel will stretch, then shoot it with a stapler. First, attach the canvas to the longest wall of the room - starting from the middle, move to the edges. After that, move to the opposite wall, making sure that no folds form on the fabric. Then attach the canvas to a narrow part of the room in the same way - from the middle to the edges. Cut off the excess edges of the attached panel.

Stage 4. Tracing paper queue

Tracing paper is needed in order to hide the connecting seams of the coarse calico cloth. If they are not processed, during painting, the paint in these places is not applied evenly, but hangs down in small bubbles, which, naturally, deprives the room of aesthetic appeal. Therefore, this stage of work is very responsible and requires special care.

First, we prepare a special glue. The recipe is simple - we cook the paste (best of all from flour) and add PVA glue to it in the amount of 30% of the paste mass. Then we dilute the mass with water to the thickness of kefir and filter. We apply glue both to the canvas and to the tracing paper, glue with an overlap of 3-5 cm. To prevent the edges of the tracing paper and overlaps from being visible, bend them so that they do not stick to each other and to the fabric. When the glue dries, carefully tear off the folded edges of the tracing paper so that the tracing paper becomes thinner at the tear-off point, and subsequently the seams will become invisible. If necessary, the seams can be carefully sanded with very fine sandpaper and PVA.

Stage 5. We bring beauty and gloss

After the PVA has dried, we prime the entire surface of the ceiling. After about 2 hours, you can already glue the baguette. Then we paint the ceiling with 2-3 layers of paint.
