Making a dressing table with your own hands is not easy, but it is quite possible if you start by building a simpler design. Today we'll show you how to do it.

DIY dressing table - preparation and materials

Before starting the manufacture of a product, you need to complete a certain action plan: carry out preparatory work and purchase the necessary material and other components. Let's take a look at each of these steps in order.

Preparatory work

Without preparatory work, you are unlikely to be able to build a beautiful, stable and durable structure. Below are instructions that fit absolutely any dressing table. So let's take a look at it:

  • We carefully think over the location of the structure and its compliance with the overall picture of the interior.

Important! It is desirable that the table be made in calm colors that would please the immediate hostess.

  • We create a drawing of a dressing table with dimensions. We indicate on the sketch the desired length, width, depth, height, size and number of shelves. In the case of furniture with a built-in mirror, write on paper and its parameters. If the table will have additional lighting, then we mark the location of the future lamps with a description of the method of their attachment. Such drawings can be done independently or you can take ready-made schemes from the Internet.

Important! We pay special attention to cabinets and shelves, because their size and number directly depend on the dimensions of the product and on your wishes. It is important to take into account all the nuances here: where do you put cosmetics, first aid kit, books and other necessary things. If you have a lot, then add open side shelves to the design.

  • Choosing a mirror, if available. According to its parameters, we will select the mounts that will hold it.

Important! It is advisable to dwell on a mirror with thick walls so that you do not worry about its integrity and safety.

  • The material that you choose for the manufacture of the frame of the dressing table must be well sanded, the edges must be processed with high quality, and then closed with plastic corners.

Materials and tools

Structurally, it is not so difficult to make a simple dressing table. For example, you can make a small chest of drawers, and attach the mirror parallel to the wall. All that is needed are the storage boxes.

The list of materials to choose from for the manufacture of the frame, side walls, bottom and shelves of this product:

  • Chipboard or chipboard sheets 16 mm thick. These are the most common materials in furniture production. They have a number of advantages: they are inexpensive, lightweight and can be easily processed at home.
  • MDF sheets. It is considered expensive due to its high quality, efficiency and durability.
  • Wood. Only those craftsmen who have experience in carpentry are taken for such material. The wood is easy to work with, but a milling machine is needed to cut the parts.
  • Plywood or fiberboard. Used for the manufacture of drawer bottoms and furniture backs.

Required fasteners:

  • Confirmates measuring 5x70 mm.
  • Self-tapping screws 4x16 mm and 4x25 mm in size.
  • Metal furniture corners.
  • Roller guides for free movement of drawers.
  • Hardware for doors and drawers.
  • Adhesive plastic edging.

Instruments:

  • Drill or screwdriver with a set of attachments.
  • Jigsaw for cutting sheets of chipboard, chipboard, MDF.
  • Drills with a diameter of 5 and 8 mm.
  • Building corner.
  • Roulette.
  • Screwdriver for tightening confirmations.
  • Sandpaper of varying grain size.

Additional accessories and parts:

  • The mirror is the correct size.
  • Plastic inserts for sashes (for glass - glass).
  • LED Strip Light.
  • Decorative panels.

DIY makeup table without a mirror

This is the easiest option and is ideal for a beginner. So, here is a detailed master class for making such a small chest of drawers for accessories:

  • We put ready-made sketches of details of our future product on chipboard sheets.

Important! You can easily cut sheets at almost any hardware store for a small fee. So you will be sure of the quality of the specialists' work. If, nevertheless, you do not have this opportunity, then cut the material into parts using an electric jigsaw.

  • We clean the ends of each part with sandpaper: first with a coarse grain, and then with a fine one.

Important! Do not be upset at the sight of chips on the edge of the sheets, since at the end of all the work, any flaws will be hidden by the end tape.

  • We prime the ends twice to give greater strength to the edge. The Moment glue is well suited for this. We put on a soft edging on the tabletop, and then we glue the ends with a special melamine edge, which we apply to the edge and iron it with an iron.
  • We assemble the frame of our table: table top, side walls, legs, back wall. We drill holes for attaching all elements to each other. We fix the details with confirmations, check the corners using the building level. After we are convinced of the correct assembly of the structure, we tighten the confirmation with a suitable wrench.
  • We duplicate the side walls and support legs of our product with metal corners.
  • Now we collect boxes. We drill all the side parts into the plane, and the front and back parts into the end. We assemble the table for confirmations, check the build quality, and then tighten the fasteners with a screwdriver. We fix the plywood bottom with small nails.
  • We fix one roller guide to the side screws, and its second counterpart to the walls of the cabinet. We put the box in the established guides.
  • Since our table is with doors, we need a Forstner drill with a diameter of 35 mm to install the hinges. We make holes for the hinges with a depth of 12.5 mm. We fix the hinges with strong screws. We fix the hinges to the sash with ordinary self-tapping screws.
  • We drill holes for handles on the front of the drawers and doors of the product, and then fasten the fittings tightly.

Assembling a dressing table with a mirror

This method is a little more complicated than the previous chest of drawers without a mirror, but it is also quite possible to make it. Let's take a look at two main methods of making it.

First method:

  1. We cut out the back wall not from fiberboard sheet, but from laminated chipboard with a prepared base for the future mirror. It can be used as a functional device or as a decorative frame of various shapes.
  2. We fix the purchased mirror in the frame using plastic holders. For these purposes, you can use "liquid nails" or double-sided tape.

Second method:

  1. Cut out the desired shape for the mirror from the plywood sheets. It can be rectangular, square, round or curly.
  2. We fix the mirror with “liquid nails” to the cut out canvas.
  3. We fasten the still separate part to the back wall of the base of the previously made dressing table. We carry out this work with self-tapping screws, screwing them as much as possible to the upper part with a mirror.

DIY dressing table with mirror and lighting

In the dresser for accessories, recessed lighting can perform one of two functions - practical or decorative. For the latter option, you will need an LED strip, preferably colored. It is placed along the edge of the table, along the supporting legs or at the bottom of the furniture.

Important! It is very simple to install such lighting: the places of its possible cutting and joining are marked on the tape. Do not forget that the tape is powered by an electrical outlet, the voltage of which must be at least 12 W. This will create a slightly dimmed light on the coffee table.

Backlit cabinet making technique:

  1. We assemble the main frame according to the dimensions of our mirror from wooden boards 20 mm thick and 90 mm wide. We connect all the parts together with joiner's glue. Saw down the ends at an angle of 45 degrees. We fix the structure in the corners with metal corners.
  2. We drill holes in the frame that are needed to install the bulb holders. We glue the outer frame from the thinnest slats. It is she who will hide the wires of our backlight.
  3. We fix the furniture corners to the base, then we put a mirror on them. We connect the cartridges parallel to each other.
  4. We paint the product in the desired color. We are waiting for complete drying.
  5. We take out the power cord through one made hole.
  6. Now we screw the bulbs into the sockets and check the operation of the lighting.
  7. Now you know how to make a dressing table with your own hands. According to the instructions above, this is not so difficult to accomplish, especially since you can start with a simpler model, and then improve it.

Special furniture for cosmetics is an optional element, but still necessary for every woman. Sometimes it's just a shelf under the mirror, but it is also a kind of mini-makeup table. If there is no opportunity or desire to buy a finished product in a store, you need to assemble a dressing table with your own hands. The design of this piece of furniture is simple. This is the most common table, even not necessarily with a mirror that can be simply mounted on the wall. Only built-in drawers will complicate the work.

First, you need to determine the location of the product, develop a project, taking into account the required dimensions of the dressing table, and draw a diagram. Note the number and size of drawers and shelves, their attachment points. In this case, in the middle, you need to leave enough free legroom. To make a stylish dressing table, you can get creative and add some original elements to the sketch. Then, according to the drawing, calculate the amount of necessary materials, fasteners and accessories that will need to be purchased in a specialized store.

The countertop can also be bought ready-made.

The assembly is carried out starting from the body: table top, side posts or legs and back wall. Then collect each box separately. Roller guides are attached to the finished body and boxes are inserted. All side cuts must be trimmed with piping and a special edge. After that, you can supplement your table with various accessories and elements: a mirror, LED strip, decorative inserts for doors, etc. Now you can install the finished furniture in the chosen place.

In order to get an excellent result when making a dressing table with your own hands, careful execution and accurate adherence to the project are necessary. Various elements, especially for a simple model, are not difficult to make, but neatness and patience are required when leveling and finishing the edges. And then a self-made original product will decorate the interior of your favorite room for a long time.

A pier glass is a small cabinet with a mirror designed for storing cosmetics and other items.

Try to make a dressing table with a mirror with your own hands. Today you can buy almost everything for making it, and if your plan succeeds, then you will give your life partner not just an original piece of furniture, but real happiness.

Materials for making

Perhaps this is your first time taking on the construction of a dressing table with a mirror and have no idea how all sorts of dressing tables are made. The simple and compact design will fit even in the smallest room.

For manufacturing you will need:

  • chipboard plates with a thickness of at least 16 mm;
  • plywood or radioboard;
  • fittings (handles, furniture awnings, drawer guides);
  • melamine or PVC tape;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • confirmations;
  • plastic plugs;
  • mirror;
  • glue or 2-sided tape.

By the way, the table top of the dressing table can be made of chipboard of greater thickness. You can also assemble a thicker slab by joining 2 16mm panels together. The configuration of the wall to which the mirror will be mounted depends on its shape. You can cut a mirror from an old product you have, order it from a specialized workshop, or buy it ready-made in a store.

The list of tools is short. Prepare:

  • pencil;
  • tape measure or long ruler;
  • awl;
  • square;
  • jigsaw or circular;
  • drill screwdriver;
  • key for tightening confirmations.

For cutting chipboard, use a jigsaw with a special saw.

Mark the slabs according to the dimensions indicated in the drawing and cut the chipboard into the necessary fragments. Care must be taken when cutting laminated chipboard as it can chip at the edges. Use a special saw blade for sawing, or a suitable jigsaw file. There is an opinion that it will not be possible to avoid chips when cutting slabs at home, but this is not the case. They need to be cut with a tool with well-sharpened working surfaces, set at maximum speed, without stopping cutting in the middle of the material being processed. You can seal the cutting line with transparent tape before sawing.

After sawing, the ends of the chipboard are pasted over with melamine tape. It adheres tightly to the edges after ironing with a hot iron. The excess tape is cut off with a clerical knife.

Possible chips will be hidden by a U-shaped facing tape, which is planted on the edges with glue.

The assembly of the double table top is carried out with the help of glue and self-tapping screws screwed into it from below (for self-tapping screws and confirmations, holes must be pre-drilled). After connection, the ends of the table top are closed with tape.

Assembly of dressing table and installation of a mirror

Mark the locations of the fasteners. Before drilling the holes, wrap the laminated surface of the chipboard with an awl. After drilling, countersink the holes for the caps of the confirmations. For fasteners, 5 mm holes are prepared, and countersinking is carried out with an 8 mm drill. Cut the back divider out of fiberboard or plywood. Assemble the table in draft. Check how correctly the structure is assembled. Using a tape measure, once again determine the dimensions of the future drawers, doors and shelves.

Make drawers, door, and bedside shelf. Their front walls can be covered with MDF facade panels. Guide runners are attached to the drawers and sides of the table with self-tapping screws. It is necessary to drill 2 blind holes in the door for the furniture hinges. The diameter of each hole is 3.5 cm. A corresponding bit is inserted into the drill chuck, and a stop is installed so that the drilling depth does not exceed 12.5 mm. The hinges are fastened with short self-tapping screws.
