Wooden flower shelves. We make shelves for flowers with our own hands. What do you need to know? Benefits of creating a masterpiece yourself

The cozy atmosphere in the house depends on even the smallest details. Everything should be in harmony: curtains, furniture, and various interior paraphernalia. Thanks to indoor flowers, you can also create a good atmosphere, but you need to place the pots with them correctly. Beautiful floor and hanging shelves for flowers with your own hands will not only decorate the interior of the room, but also allow you to rationally place any compositions.

Let's pay attention to the step-by-step instructions and find out how to make a do-it-yourself flower shelf. The product described below has a stepped structure, which will allow flowers in pots to receive an equal amount of light. A homemade shelf is an opportunity to intelligently use the available space with minimal financial investment.

The made rack for flowers has the following parameters:

  • 508 mm width;
  • 518 mm depth;
  • 456 mm height;
  • weight - 4.5 kg.

White oak, cypress, pine or mahogany are used to make a shelf for flowers made of wood. The assembly is carried out with stainless steel screws, the size of which is 4.5x38 mm.

Preparation of parts

We cut out the rear and front supports (A and B) according to the dimensions shown in the figures. At the ends of the front legs, we make bevels at an angle of 25 °. At the bottom of the legs, we mark the roundings with a radius of 20 mm, cut them out (you can use a jigsaw or a band saw) and grind them along the contour lines.

On the supports (B), which will be located at the back, mark the centers of the holes for mounting. The centers of the holes for mounting are transferred to the front supports (A) from the rear legs (B) - this is already when assembling the stack. On the outer edges of all legs, fillets must be milled, the radius of which should be 3 mm. After that, we grind the supports using 150 grit sandpaper.

Note! Having made a bookcase for flowers according to the specified parameters and based on the given drawings, in the future it will be possible, for example, to make shelves on the wall with your own hands. Wall-mounted shelves also add flavor to the living space. They can be done with backlighting, which will additionally decorate the room.

According to the specified dimensions, we cut out the following parts for the shelf:

  • side supports for the bottom shelf (C) - 19x51x492 - 2 pcs. ;
  • side supports for the middle shelf (D) - 19x51x337 - 2 pcs. ;
  • side supports for the top shelf (E) - 19x102x159 - 2 pcs. ;
  • bottom and middle crossbars (F), which will be located at the back - 19x51x406 - 1 pc. ;
  • the top bar (G) to be installed at the back - 19x102x406 - 4 pcs.

We draw roundings, the radius of which is 20 mm, at the bottom at the front corners of the lower and middle side supports. We do the same on the upper side supports, only here we make the roundings with a radius of 50 mm. Drawings are offered to help in the manufacture of flower shelves from wood and from scrap materials. We grind all the rounded curves along the contour, and then we grind all the other parts of the wooden shelf to a smooth state.

On the crossbars F and G. Which will be located at the back, we mark, based on the figure, the centers of the holes for the subsequent attachment of the side supports to them.

According to the indicated dimensions, we cut out long (H) and short (I) strips of the product. Along the edges, corners and ends of the ribs of the shelf strips, we mill the fillets, the radius of which is 3 mm. After that, mark the centers of the auxiliary holes on the strips.

Note! On long and short strips, the holes are located in the same way, and on one rear plate for the top shelf, they are placed slightly differently.

Assembling the shelves

Step 1. Lay out the lower side supports (C) and the crossbar (F) in accordance with the drawing. Through the rear crossbar into the side supports, we drill the mounting holes (the markings were applied earlier) and screw in them stainless steel screws 4.5x38 mm in size with a countersunk head.

Step 2. To fix the shelf strips H and I, insert between the side supports C a spacer, the length of which is 368 mm. We fix the rectangularity of the assembly by means of a carpenter's square, pressing it with clamps. To place the inner long bar on the upper edges of the side supports, we put marks, retreating 378 mm from the rear end of the part. Align the trailing edge of the long plank using the marks until the end overhangs are the same. Now we drill the mounting holes and fix the bar with screws. Install the second long plank in front of the first one, based on the drawing and using spacers, the thickness of which is 6 mm. After that, we fix two short ones behind the long slats.

Step 3. We connect the middle side supports D to the crossbar F using short and long shelf strips, according to the principle described in steps 1 and 2. But in this case there will be a slight difference: the alignment marks on the middle side supports must be placed at a distance of 225 mm from the rear ends of the parts. After that we connect:

  • upper side supports (E);
  • top rear crossbar (G);
  • three long shelf strips (H).

Check the previously marked upper back bar for correct orientation and then fix it on the same level with the back edge of the upper cross bar. We fix all the other planks of the floor shelf, leaving a distance of 6 mm between them.

Assembling the product

To install the rear legs (B), mark on their front edges the position where the lower and middle shelves will be located (see the very first drawing). We fix the rear leg with a clamp on the workbench with the marked edge up. At an angle of 90 °, we press the lower, middle and upper shelves to the leg with the help of clamps. In this case, you need to align the lower edges of the lower and middle side supports (C and D) with the marks on the leg, focusing on the photo below. Drill the mounting holes through the leg into each shelf and screw the screws into them. After that we fix the other back leg.

Attach the rear leg to the shelves

Now let the almost finished shelf for indoor flowers lie on the back side. At this time we will be assembling the rest of the structure.

Clamp the front leg (A), pressing its front edge to the trailing edges of the inner long strips (H) of the lower and middle shelf. In this case, the upper end bevel is adjusted along the lower side of the upper shelf slats, based on the photo. Align the carpentry square with the centers of the mounting holes on the rear legs (B). Departing 16 mm from the front and rear edges, mark the centers for the holes on the front leg. We drill the mounting holes and screw the screws into them. Repeat the procedure to secure the second front leg.

We grind all the places that require such a procedure and remove dust from the product. After that, we apply a protective coating. If the decision was made to make flower shelves that will be located outdoors, the protective covering must meet these goals.

We transfer the finished product of our labor to the place of its installation and place flower pots on the shelves. Now the flowers will enjoy the sunlight and pamper the eyes of the people around them.

Work examples

Quite often, men make gifts to women, and often these are flowers, various jewelry, clothing and other beautiful things. Just what to give to a real mistress? Few men guess that a woman will be happy with flowers in pots and will be no less pleased if you make shelves for flowers with your own hands.

This is quite a handy thing for any home that is rich in flowers. Read the article and just know how you can independently create shelves for flowers and your own home with your own hands, and it is not necessary to have a special education for this and generally be a master in this matter. It is enough just to buy the necessary material and calculate everything correctly, and then the matter is done quickly and easily.

Perhaps you already have a piece of plywood in your workshop, and if not, then just buy it at a hardware store and it’s not so expensive. You can create a shelf for beautiful flowers from a small piece of plywood and just please your beloved soul mate. Even ordinary and simply inexpensive plywood is able to hold flower pots, a certain thickness of such a product is quite convenient, both for these pots with flowers and for different flower vases. Consider also the originality of the design and you can safely turn this material not just into a convenient shelf, but also into a stylish design solution.

Instruments:

  • A sheet of paper is strictly emery;
  • Construction tape;
  • Drill with a special handy nozzle for creating holes for fastening pipes;
  • Electric jigsaw;
  • Varnish for wood to choose from or paint;
  • Pipes can be galvanized or nickel-plated to take a small diameter here "calculation of two pipes on one shelf";
  • The plywood sheet itself is of exactly this size, and so that all the elements necessary here can also be cut.

Manufacturing process

First, you should think about the place where the new shelf for flowers with your own hands on the wall will be located, the place itself and the required dimensions of the product should be carefully evaluated. Think over and choose the size of the product that is most acceptable in a given place.

After you have prepared all the necessary tools from the previous list, you can already start creating a drawing on the plywood itself. All drawings of the shelves should be immediately applied to the sheet and rechecked all dimensions. In order for the new rack to easily fit into your room interior, you should slightly modify the design. You can always leave aside boring and straight strict lines and come up with some interesting wavy, curved lines for a new product. They look quite effective.

After sketching out the real dimensions on the plywood, you can pick up a jigsaw and start cutting out each shelf. It is important to follow all the lines and cut carefully and without errors, so that each shelf has excellent external data, you should not rush at this stage. Follow all the contours of the elements and everything will work out.

After the shelves have been successfully cut, it is worthwhile to double-check all the sizes and evaluate how beautifully you were able to cope with such a task. If you wish, at this stage, you can immediately remake some shelf, that is, cut it out again if the dimensions do not converge and in general, if it was not cut out as neatly as you would like it to be. The holes required for the current installation of pipes should be applied on the uppermost workpiece.

Already cut workpieces can be stacked on top of each other and simply drilled into the marked pipe holes. It is important to respect the diameter of the holes created so that they are no larger and no smaller than the pipes themselves.

You can safely take on the processing of plywood blanks. They should be cleaned with prepared sandpaper. It is worth paying special attention to the end parts of each detail.

Working with color involves covering each part after thoroughly washing down with paint coatings. You can take anyone to your taste. It can be any kind of wood varnish or paint. It is better to cover in several layers. This procedure is important to obtain a smoother surface. We fix it on the wall.

It remains only to check the finished structure for the necessary strength and you can delight the hostess with your creative ideas.

If you are wondering how to make a shelf for flowers with your own hands using wooden shelves, then see detailed instructions using the example of a model of three shelves.

There is a small rule: creating shelves made of wood should be no more than 60 cm in length, no more than 23 in width and preferably no higher than 70 cm.

Manufacturing process:

Stock up on slats with a small thickness. We cut out further 18 thin blanks, since each individual shelf will consist of a certain number of elements. The length of each element is 6 cm. Colored shelving racks are easy to create from the bars.

To create such bars, you can take dimensions of 20 by 20 mm and they are cut every 70 cm in the number of 4 pieces.

It is now worth cutting out the elements for such a future design, approximately 23 cm in length.

This can be done from the cut bars remaining in the work.

Next, you need to put the shelves on top of each other, install two racks and create marks for places among the future of the same mounts. Now, an equally important point in determining the places between the shelves themselves. After all, it is planned to install pots on the shelves themselves and the sizes of the height of flowers are always different, so you should carefully consider how comfortable the height will be and at what distance to create such shelves from each other.

Each shelf consists of six small shelf parts. The shelves can be easily attached from the end side using ordinary studs of the required length. It is most convenient to take nails with a length of about 2.5 cm for such a case. After such an installation is successfully completed, it is worth processing all uneven edges with an emery sheet.

During the installation of the shelves, it is worth positioning the product so conveniently that the master can easily hammer in these nails and at the same time hold the current rack.

After the product is ready, you can give it a shine using varnish or simply paint it with paint. In order for the surfaces to be even and smooth, it is worth processing carefully and in several layers.

Also, a do-it-yourself floor shelf for flowers in production will always be simple and convenient to use, moreover, it can be easily installed in one place and then, if desired, simply moved in the desired direction.

Such an elegant shelf is held together only with the help of special metal racks. They can be welded using a special jumper. Such a shelf will become not only convenient, but also an unrivaled durable item for storing flowers in your own home.

In the case when the plans are to mount such a shelf directly to the wall, it is worth additionally purchasing special metal rods with a cross-section of one cm.

If you plan to install the shelf just on the floor, it is worth preparing special corners.

We also analyze the place where the finished structure will be located and begin to come up with a drawing and just what dimensions the finished work will be.

With the help of welded rods for this type of shelf, it is worth connecting metal structures. This will help create additional support and the highest load capacity.

It is also worth using the metal strapping method for 4 tiers of the product at once. To match the interior, it is worth applying paint directly to the welded finished elements.

Next, along the length of the shelves, cut wood strips with dimensions of 25 by 15. The size is required 60 cm. With the help of wooden bars, it is worth connecting such elements only after they are evenly laid on a flat surface. It is worth laying them out strictly in parallel, so that in the end the design is quite flat. Use the bars for joining with dimensions equal to about 20 cm.

Now it remains just to attach the finished assembled shelf, using self-tapping screws of a special length, to the wall. You should only take into account such a simple rule that the current distance between two marks for fastening should not be less than 50 cm.In order for the metal frame to be strictly parallel to the floor, you should also use a special device called a level in the current work.

Finally, it is worth painting the shelves. For this purpose, you can apply different kinds of paints or simply use a special wood coating in the form of a finished varnish of paint material.

There are many more types of flower shelves that you can make yourself at home. The most convenient is the shelf for flowers on the windowsill with your own hands, its installation is no more difficult than an ordinary shelf, but using such a shelf is simply a pleasure for the hostess.

It's no secret that many gardeners, and just plant lovers, want to arrange a noble greenhouse at home. Of course, there is not enough home space for this. However, it is quite possible to create a flower rack on your own.

As a rule, the following materials can be used for the manufacture of a rack:

  • glass;
  • wood;
  • metals;
  • plastic;
  • drywall.

The look of the glass shelving unit is simply superb. This option takes into account the thickness of the glass and the factor of skill in handling it. You will have to cut it out with your own hands, change its shapes and sizes. If this task is beyond your power, then contact the professionals in glass workshops.

In practice, household flower racks are not made specifically from any one material, but from material combinations... Usually everything that is found at hand comes into play. A key factor here is what tools are available to the “maker” of the rack and what materials have been chosen for this.

Plywood shelving

If you have a sheet of plywood at your disposal, then you have the opportunity to build an inexpensive but practical shelving option. Plywood is a material of good strength and does not require large expenditures. And working with him is not particularly difficult. It can take only a few hours to work with him, about 5-7 hours. During this time, you can create an original flower shelf. An electric jigsaw will be an excellent assistant in this task. It makes sense that you should be good at handling it. Since it is necessary to cut smooth lines along the working material.

In addition to one sheet of plywood and the specified jigsaw, you will need:

  1. two pipes treated with nickel,
  2. 4 fasteners (pair per shelf),
  3. tool for attaching fasteners,
  4. high-quality varnish or paint,
  5. electric drill,
  6. fine-grained sandpaper,
  7. roulette.

The work should adhere to a certain technology and algorithm:

  1. Decide on the parameters of the shelves. Study the size of the area where the shelves will be located.
  2. Focusing on these parameters, you create an image of the shelves conceived on a plywood sheet. You can give them the simplest configuration. These are rectangular versions with rounded corners. You can make all kinds of waves of different depths. The number and depth of waves depends on your skill.
  3. Having made the necessary markings and images, you can start cutting.
  4. The panels lie on top of each other, the distance is fixed where the hole for the specified pipe will be concentrated. It is imperative to achieve complete coincidence of points.
  5. The working material is carefully sanded with sandpaper. Here, special attention must be paid to the end sides.
  6. Lacquer the shelves. Multiple layers recommended. You choose the colors and tones yourself, depending on your design ideas.
  7. A pipe should be passed through the holes created. It is attached to each shelf. The key point at this stage is the observance of strict parallelism of the shelves in relation to each other and their perpendicularity to these pipes.
  8. The shelves are wall-mounted. This operation can be carried out using special brackets. They attach to the back of the shelves from the bottom and top and to the wall. Here it is necessary to make markings on the wall without mistakes. A drill is used to create the holes. Further, self-tapping screws will be inserted into the holes. The dimensions and strength of the fixing tool determine the shelf stability. After all, it will soon be filled with heavy flower pots.

Approximate rack design.

Used metal racks - a fairly light interior option.

The same rack, side view.

Wood version

The width of the intended rack is as follows: 22 centimeters, length - from sixty and more, height - 70 cm. Only three shelves will be arranged here.

List of required materials:

  • long two-meter wooden planks, their parameters: 3.5 x 0.5 cm, their required number - 6 pieces,
  • two wooden planks of the same length, but with parameters 2 x2,
  • nails 25 and 40.

Can't do without:

  • saws,
  • hammer,
  • roulette.

From thinner slats, you need to create the shelves themselves. The other pieces of planks will be routed to create the shelving racks.

In your work, adhere to the following scheme:

  1. On thin material, segments of 60 centimeters are marked. They are sawn off. As a result, 18 planks are formed.
  2. Similar operations are performed with other planks. Only the segments will come out there by 70 cm in length. They should also be cut. Four racks are formed.
  3. From the remnants of thicker planks, you need to cut two beams. Their given length is 23 cm.
  4. Two racks are placed on the floor. Their positions are parallel. The racks indicate the places of the intended installation of the shelves. Meticulousness is needed here. The distance between each shelf is determined by the height of the flowers that they plan to deliver in the future.
  5. Laying of a thin board follows, we take 6 pieces. Mount them “collectively” at the end faces. A beam (23-24 cm in length) and fasteners are involved here. Three shelves should form. The end sections are carefully processed with sandpaper.
  6. The whole structure is assembled. It is better to work here as a duet. For example, you are holding the racks with shelves and the assistant is holding the entire rack using 40 nails.
  7. The created rack is varnished or painted.
  8. An approximate result in the photo below:

Wooden shelving options:

Floor stand-ladder made of quality sawn timber.

Simple, but light and roomy rack with sections for things.

Solid mobile seedling structure.

Easy to manufacture rack.

The photo shows the usual mobile shelving for warehouses, but this design is perfect for flowers as well.

Old furniture, for example, a chest of drawers with removed doors, can be successfully used as a source of material for the shelving.

Ambitious in form, but simple in terms of the materials used, the rack. The lumber for such a rack does not have to be "fresh".

Shelving in the form of a window frame, in this case suspended.

Another simple seedling rack, with pendant lamps that are mounted so they can be easily stowed away.

A rack with inclined shelves-steps - this option has its advantages: from the possibility of creating a green wall to saving space. Suitable in poorly lit places.

Pallet rack. It is enough to take the finished pallet, process its surface and fix the shelves in any convenient place, because the side racks and the base are already there. An important point - such a rack will not be stable enough, you will have to solve the problem with its fastening to the wall or ceiling.

A green room with full-length shelves.

The original rack is not made of lumber, but of uncylinded logs.

Light shelving, shown in the title photo, from a different angle.

Rack-honeycomb from old furniture.

Large wooden shelving

The racks are made of planed timber 5 * 5, the sides are made of aspen, the shelves are made of plywood 18 mm. The rack is designed for different things (there is room for a wardrobe), but the value of this video is that the author talks about design and mistakes during work - it can be useful when creating your own rack for flowers from lumber and plywood.

Metallic option

This option will be characterized by long service life, since its racks are metal... The structure is wall-mounted. For its welding, metal rods are used. Their diameter is 7-10 mm. Instead, you can use a corner. The second layout will be useful if the placement of the structure turns out to be on the floor. The design parameters are determined by personal wishes and the availability of shelf space. If the parameters of the bases on the sides are 90 x 20 cm, then four shelves can be arranged in the rack. Their distance is 30 cm. This will allow placing flowers of different heights. To concentrate tall flowers, the top of the rack is suitable.

During welding, the following are created:

  • fastening to the upper sections of the inner edge of this structure,
  • crossbars for the location of each shelf.

Further, strips (5-6 mm in length) are cut from the bars (their parameters are 25 x 15 mm). There should be 20 strips. They lie face down. Their arrangement to each other is parallel. They are knocked down by other planks (20 cm).

Then the welded structure is attached to the wall. If the wall is solid (concrete, brick, etc.), standard screws become the fasteners. Here it is required to correctly determine the installation points of the bases for the shelves being created. Their correct plane is parallel. Otherwise, the even arrangement of the shelves on the crossbars will not work. Distance between fasteners: 50 - 55 cm. Shelves are placed on the supports. The entire structure is covered with paint. These shelves can be varnished and the metal parts can be painted.

Example. Feature - the shelves are made from cuts of a wooden board:

Purchased metal shelving.

Another version of an industrial rack that you can make yourself, if you have the skills to work with metal.

A light rack with rings for pots can replace a full-fledged rack if there is not a lot of space in the apartment.

Any storage rack can be adapted to match flowers.

Window rack, metal gutters are used as shelves. Sufficiently lightweight design, convenient for growing plants-lovers of high humidity.

Affordable - made of plastic window sills

Quite a well-known shelving option. Here in the work, the necessary components are as follows:

  • plastic window sills, length - 390 cm,
  • 3 nickel plated pipes,
  • 6 flanges,
  • 2 brackets.

Operations plan:

  1. The designated window sill is sawn into 130 cm segments.
  2. Three holes are created in these lines at an equal distance. Two are obtained on the flanks at the rear, and one at the front, strictly in the center.
  3. The pipe is cut to the required height. The structure is mounted with flanges and screws.
  4. The lower flange of the pipe is connected to the floor with the same flanges at three points. Brackets must be put on the upper flank of the two wall pipes. Method of their installation: to the wall with screws.

Example:

Window sill panel rack

Window sill rack options

It is convenient to mount shelves of various designs in the window opening:

Backlit

Backlighting and its installation is a vast topic, so we will consider it separately. Below are sample options that are easy to make at home with your own hands.

Point directional light.

Adjustable hanging lighting. It is convenient for accompanying the full cycle of plant growth, from seedlings to adults.

Classic wooden shelving unit with lighting.

Lightweight wood construction with comfortable hanging lamps.

Glass option

This design is comfortable in that you can arrange a backlight from above. So the light will hit all the shelves. For work you will need:

  • glasses: 6 pieces,
  • wooden slats: 2 pieces.

The glass must be tempered. Its minimum thickness is 5 mm... The parameter of the groove for glass mounting is determined from the thickness of the vertical slats. This also affects the strength of the installation. If the shelves reach 20 cm in thickness, then the grooves should be 10 cm, and the minimum thickness of the slats is 20 cm.

Since the mass of flower pots turns out to be impressive, there is a lot of pressure on the entire rack. Therefore, castling can be carried out: one glass shelf leaves the rack, its place is taken by a wooden counterpart.

Drywall version

When working with drywall, you can arrange niches in the wall and create ordinary shelves. In both layouts, a skeleton is created. He gets off with this material. It turns out a good, designer, but weak result in terms of operation.

Such material deteriorates from moisture. And the ingress of water on it is difficult to exclude. After all, flowers are often watered. They need moisture. And here there is such a compromise - glass shelves are attached to the frame.

On this structure, you can organize the backlight. The result will be impressive.

If you intend to place the rack on the balcony, then the indicators of this room are important here: humidity, temperature, illumination, etc. On their basis, the material for the shelving is selected. For example, if the loggia has weak insulation, chipboard racks cannot be placed there... This material will begin to deform and the rack may fall apart. And if the balcony is characterized by high humidity, all rack elements must be covered with protective paint. The optimal solution for the manufacture of a rack for a balcony is metal. This is a good solution if you want to place many different colors and therefore heavy pots on the rack. If there are flowers and containers for them, it will be a little to erect a structure with chipboard.

After choosing a working material, draw up a drawing. Decide on the amount of material. Organize these tools and materials:

  • wooden beams, section: 50 x 50,
  • level,
  • drill,
  • fasteners: self-tapping screws (no longer than the thickness of the plate), dowels, metal corners (4-8 pieces for each shelf)
  • hinges when the rack is closed,
  • shelf material

You can use plywood. Its thickness is determined by the masses of items that will be on such a shelf.

Work process.

  1. Layout of the zone on the balcony. If the rack fills the entire wall, beams are mounted on the ceiling and floor. The fasteners here are dowels. The bars are identical to the parameters of the intended shelves (depth and width). The arrangement of the beams to each other is parallel. The highest load is obtained on the middle shelf. Therefore, this shelf must have strong stability.
  2. Slabs of material (chipboard, plywood) are cut out for the shelf. Their size is the same as in the project.
  3. They are screwed to the rack frame. This is where the jigsaw comes in handy.
  4. During installation, a constant check of the position of the plates is necessary. We need a level.
  5. Fasteners are screwed to immobility conditions.

If you intend to make all the elements of the rack from metal. Then the following are suitable for assembly: frames, traverses, lintels and metal shelves. All components are secured with anchor bolts.

From scrap materials

The rack does not have to be monolithic. It is quite possible to assemble it from separate elements without a single attachment, like a constructor, and disassemble it at any time. In the photo below, the rack is arranged between the walls, which serve as a support, the racks are construction, rather heavy and therefore stable,. The shelves can be made from any material. The only type of work in this case is the adjustment of the shelves to the length of the wall. But if the length is sufficient, cutting the material may not even be necessary.

Hollow claydite-concrete blocks.

Simple hanging structure

The video is in English, but everything is quite clear and simple.

That happy day when you first brought the very first plant from your future rich collection to your home is long gone. And now dozens of flowering and decorative deciduous plants are placed on window sills, on bookshelves, on tables, in loggia niches or next to the walls of the balcony. Such a "green kingdom" looks, frankly, not at all aesthetically pleasing, and all sorts of diseases and pests instantly spread among the plants, which are closely adjacent to each other.

If you are thinking about the question of how to organize all this lush and blooming vegetation, how to make a cozy green corner without overloading the limited space of the room, then be sure to check out the useful tips and materials on this page. Here you will find photos with interesting models of stands, floor racks, hanging shelves for indoor plants. And video lessons and seven step-by-step master classes (with a photo of each stage of work) will help you make stylish flower stands and floor stands with whatnots with your own hands.

If your collection of indoor plants is constantly growing, then you should pay attention to the practical flower stands, which you can easily do with your own hands from various materials at hand. There are a large number of models of floor stands for flowers, hanging racks with convenient niches for vertical gardening, hanging shelves, with which you can organize space both in a spacious and in a small room (including on the balcony).

Having allocated space to create a green corner, we will use each square meter to compactly place all the pots with plants. Stands can be placed on the floor, in which sturdy metal stands are completed with wide shelves for flowers at different levels. Hanging shelves with long shelves made of wood on the wall will look harmonious next to the floor stands, and at the junction there are wooden corner shelves, which can be mounted or put stands with corner shelves for flowers.

On the windowsill
you can also place quite a lot of miniature plants if you make light and compact racks with your own hands, reinforcing plexiglass shelves along the width of the window sill on thin (but durable) metal racks. Next to the window, you can put a beautiful floor stand for flowers made of wood in the form of an elegant ladder, on which the shelves will be located at the same level vertically or move forward.

Shelves on a multi-level rack, it can be placed at different heights in a separate niche, and the shelves themselves can be made different in length and width. On the lower, large and forward-facing shelves, you can put pots with large plants (Benjamin's ficus, Dracaena Marginata, azalea or fuchsia in the form of a tree), on medium and slightly forward shelves, you can place plants with falling leaves (chlorophytum, zygocactus, asparagus, miniature fern ), and on the upper shelves small flowers will look interesting (uzambara violets, potted hyacinths, phalaenopsis orchid or dendrobium) ampelous forms with beautiful flowers on long shoots (campanula bell, home petunias, hoya wax ivy). Such floor stands for flowers can be easily made with your own hands (including from an old staircase, from a wooden stepladder, from a tool rack, from pallets).

- in the photo: floor stands, metal and wooden racks, shelves with shelves on the windowsill

Also, metal racks for household utensils, kitchen shelves, old book shelves can be slightly modernized with your own hands and turned into excellent stands for your flowers. Keep in mind that floor stands should not be fragile, loose, and hold the shelves securely. And for a wall hanging shelf, you need to install reliable fasteners and wide wooden shelves.

7 MASTER CLASSES FOR MAKING STANDS AND SUSPENDED STRUCTURES FOR FLOWERS:

Indoor flower lovers always face a problem: where to put the next pot with ficus or pelargonium. Placing plants on cabinets is inconvenient, making tables with trays and pots is impractical, and only a few begonias or orchids are placed on the windowsill. Shelves for flowers come to the rescue, which can be easily hung on a free section of the wall. We will try to understand the classification of flower shelves and study three interesting master classes on their manufacture.

If we consider a stand for plants not just as a convenient device, but as a certain element of interior design, then it can be used to emphasize the style, make the room more comfortable, or even completely change the usual atmosphere of the kitchen or living room. Wooden details of wall products are perfectly combined with furniture sets made of natural oak or linden, and brackets and hangers made of metal - with fittings for wardrobes and dressers.

An interesting solution for a country-style interior

Shelves or coasters with chrome elements placed in the kitchen are in perfect harmony with the sanitary ware and cutlery. A compact shelf with blooming violets, installed on the windowsill, will give a modern kitchen, overflowing with technical devices, a more cozy and habitable look.

In terms of color and design, the flower stand can completely repeat the items of the furniture set, however, in some cases, products of an unusual shape, with additional decorations and trimmings, look more elegant. Edging made of light lace, several mother-of-pearl beads, light aged gilding - and an ordinary wooden product turns into an exclusive designer touch.

An elegant element of the interior of the room

Racks for indoor plants may well replace a partition, the installation of which is relevant in studio apartments or rooms divided into several zones. An example of a spacious hall is a loft-style apartment, where bare brick or concrete walls can be refreshed with neat compositions of fresh flowers.

Flower stand designs

In addition to the traditional wall shelves for indoor plants, which are processed boards on two hinges, there are many easy-to-place and unusual-shaped stands. The photo shows traditional types: single shelves, multi-tiered wall options and racks that are installed on the floor.

Compact shelves for one plant

Small stands, attached to the wall at a height convenient for watering plants, are somewhat reminiscent of flowerpots. Especially similar in design are those that are suspended on colored thick cords or ropes. A small shelf is easier to make and decorate with your own hands than a multi-tiered structure. A square piece of wood can be painted to match the wallpaper or, on the contrary, highlighted with a bright color.

Unusual solutions for one flower

For a compact and mobile product, it is easier to find a place in the apartment. If you wish, you can always change it: move it from the door to the window or from the bedroom to the kitchen. Depending on the height of the plant, which gradually increases in size, the shelf is lowered down. The shoots of ampelous crops, on the contrary, stretch down and to the sides, so sometimes the mount has to be moved up. In addition to the walls, miniature shelves are fixed on the slopes of windows, in niches, on beams.

Tiered shelves

The main advantage of structures consisting of two, three or more "floors" is their large capacity. On elongated boards, located one above the other or in a checkerboard pattern, you can arrange a dozen pots with cacti or Tradescantia. Buildings can be drastically different if you choose the right material. Rough, deliberately untreated boards create a heavy structure, while glass looks airy and light.

Flowers and souvenirs seem to float in the air

Combined sets consisting of elements of different lengths look unusual. On short and long shelves for flowers, pots of different color and shape, or, if the style requires it, glass vessels, are placed in a chaotic manner. Compositions of this kind are in themselves a decor, so it is better to place them on a free wall.

Floor racks

Structures installed on the floor can hardly be called shelves. Rather, these are racks or shelves that can accommodate a fairly large number of indoor plants. Such structures are convenient for arranging crops of different types: climbing plants are installed in the upper part, flowering plants in the middle, and erect or lush ones below.

Rack-partition for pots

The racks differ in shape. The classic type is a kind of cabinet without doors, rectangular in shape and human-sized. There are models that look more like a ladder, and some look like a set of cubes stacked on top of each other.

In addition to shelving, there are floor stands for one or more plants, located separately at different levels. Most often these are metal hoops for pots or unusual design solutions. It is not surprising that flower racks are often made with their own hands, and not bought ready-made - you can independently make a truly beautiful and solid thing.

Material for the manufacture of products

The choice of material largely depends on the place where you plan to hang shelves or install whatnots. It is clear that in a high-tech room, a couple of raw boards on hemp ropes will look superfluous. Metal or glass products of simple geometric shapes are more suitable here. Judging by the photo, you can make wall shelves for flowers made of wood, glass, metal and plastic with your own hands. The main thing is that the design of the products matches the style of the room.

Wood (chipboard, plywood)

It is the most convenient material for work, which is easy to give any shape using a saw, planer, drill and other carpentry tools. Depending on the type, the wood can be dark or light, with a pronounced texture or barely noticeable natural pattern.

"Bicycle" for large plants

You can emphasize the naturalness of wood with the help of modern paints and varnishes: decorative and protective paints, varnishes, stains, impregnations, antiseptics. There are special solutions that allow you to give wooden shelves and flower racks an aged look.

Floor stand with bumpers

If you try, you can use simple tools and inexpensive materials to create a real masterpiece that resembles an antique collectible in style and finish.

Glass

Glass stands for indoor plants are rarely used, since the fragile material does not support the weight of heavy pots with soil. But if instead of standard ceramic containers you use miniature vessels or compositions that are light in weight, then it is quite possible to use a glass shelf.

It is advisable to use glass when it is necessary to visually increase the volume of the room or to preserve the maximum natural light. Transparent structures are installed on the windowsill - they do not block the sun's rays and look quite elegant.

Metal

Forged metal products look nobler than wall shelves made of plywood flowers, but they are also more expensive. There are few craftsmen who could make a beautiful thing with curved details with their own hands, so it is customary to buy ready-made coasters.

Arc-shaped window sill stand

There are two types of metal products: factory-made by stamping or hand-made. The former are sold in flower shops and have a low cost, while the latter are exclusive products that are made to order. Thanks to the fashion for forging, it is easy to find floral accessories of both types.

Plastic

Inexpensive material that is often used to decorate country or youth interiors. Plastic can be transparent, colored and even patterned. It is quite difficult to make a plastic shelf on your own, so it is better to purchase finished products.

Wall "cubes" made of durable transparent plastic

The main advantage of polymer products is their variety. In addition to standard flat shelves in stores, you can find products of an unusual shape, for example, in the form of large drops-pots, which are simply suspended from a vertical plane.

Places to place flower shelves and racks

The traditional place for placing large and small flower shelves and pots is on the walls, while stands for large pots are installed on the floor. City dwellers also love to decorate balconies and windows with flowering plants. The photo shows interesting solutions for different areas of your home.

Walls

I would like to note right away that not every design is suitable for hanging shelves. Solid reinforced concrete, brick and wooden walls are considered reliable supports. Plasterboard partitions are only good for attaching lightweight items.

Ideas for using roof rails

If you get creative, you can achieve incredible results in the design of ordinary stands and find other supports instead of a wall. However, sometimes the best solutions lie right on the surface, as in the following photo:

Pots on the rungs of the stairs

In addition to frontal products, use corner ones - if there is a shortage of free space, or suspended ones, which are attached directly to the ceiling. The Internet is a great resource with numerous photos for choosing shelves for flowers on the wall, so you can easily borrow ready-made ideas.

Window sills

Convenient horizontal planes of window sills are often considered as good places to place seedlings. This is correct, because it is in the area of the windows that the highest degree of solar illumination is achieved.

Glass window racks

To make the pots fit more, they came up with special multi-tiered stands, and so that self-made whatnots did not contrast with the cozy atmosphere of the rooms, they began to make them decorative. If you don't want to bother with making shelves or racks for flowers on the windowsill with your own hands, use the factory offers.

Floor

The materials for the manufacture of floor structures for houseplants are metal or wooden parts. If the stand resembles a table, then its surface is often made of glass, decorated with paints or even ceramic tiles.

Tables of various heights

Floor structures are designed for one or more large plants - monsters, ficuses, palms. A lonely yucca on a wrought iron stand looks much more elegant than just in a pot on the floor. Floor structures include all types of cabinets, bookcases and racks designed specifically for flowers.

Balcony

It is customary to decorate both open and glazed balconies. In the first case, it is much more convenient to fix the stands directly on the railing; maintenance is also easier.

Metal grate for balcony plants

If it is not possible to fix the shelves on the railing, they decorate the walls, and the pots are hung directly from the ceiling.

Three simple master classes for skilled hands

We offer three options for making flower shelves that you can do yourself. We recommend diversifying the creative process with your own ideas in order to make a truly exclusive thing as a result.

Universal shelf for room or terrace

If you want to decorate your home, porch or garden with a simple yet elegant stand, you don't have to look for the right model in the supermarket. It is enough to pick up several boards of suitable size and assemble a simple structure from them. A three-tiered do-it-yourself wooden bookcase for flowers with large drawer shelves is a great solution for amateur flower growers.

Shelf with drawers

First you need to purchase a set of boards. They can be ordered in the workshop or cut out by yourself. The dimensions of the parts can be taken from the provided diagram. This option is more suitable for a terrace or garden, but if you want to decorate a living room or hall with a similar rack, the dimensions can be reduced proportionally.

Shelf scheme

So, you will need:

  • boards for the bottoms of boxes - 6 pcs.;
  • short fixing parts for bottoms - 6 pcs .;
  • drawer wall elements - 6 long + 6 short;
  • 4 narrow blanks for sidewalls;
  • 6 crossbars of different lengths for the sidewalls.

From the side parts, using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, we collect two triangular-shaped figures - the sidewalls, on which the boxes must be attached.

Side detail

Next, we proceed to the assembly of boxes, there will be three of them. You can do more, but then you will have to increase the height of the whatnot, otherwise it will be difficult to take care of the flowers. We connect each pair of bottom boards using short perpendicular beams. Please note that a gap must be left between the boards (so that water can drain, but this is acceptable only for the garden version).

Drawer bottom

We attach the sides to the bottom with self-tapping screws from four walls - we get a box. It will take less time to assemble the two remaining crates.

Ready box

It remains to fix the boxes on the sidewalls. We start from the bottom. We install it on the lowest horizontal crossbeams and fasten with strong bolts. We do the same with the middle and top drawers.

Box installation

The result is a comfortable, roomy shelf stand for garden or indoor crops. Large flat boxes can be used to grow seedlings for the garden, low greenery or miniature flowers.

The perfect solution for the care of home and garden crops

Separately, I would like to say about the processing of wooden parts. It is better to apply a protective layer of antiseptic impregnation, stain, varnish or paint before assembly - on all parts without exception. We select the color of the decorative paint to match the surrounding interior. It is better to paint a shelf for a garden in a natural shade, and in two or three layers - for reliability.

Combined wood shelf

Wood is a soft and pliable material, easy to process, that even a woman can handle. With just one small board, you can create an elegant stand for three indoor plants. Its peculiarity lies in the installation of pots: they do not just line up in one row, but are inserted into special niches - holes. In the photo there is a neat shelf for flowers suitable for making with your own hands.

For work you will need:

  • a fragment of a small board (we select the dimensions ourselves according to the diameter of the pots);
  • two ready-made metal brackets;
  • a tool for processing wood (saw or drill with a nozzle, sandpaper);
  • a set of 3 identical pots;
  • several large beads;
  • varnish or paint for decoration;
  • glue;
  • screws;
  • pencil and square.

The choice of finishing material depends entirely on the style of the interior. It can be varnish that preserves the texture of wood, and a dark stain, or bright acrylic paint.

First of all, we cut out a piece of the board of the required length and cut out three holes. Try to make the distances between them the same. If no suitable tool is available, the board can be ordered from the workshop.

Plank with three identical holes

We grind the surface from all sides, not forgetting about the cuts and ends. We give the workpiece a beautiful look with the help of a pre-selected decorative composition.

Base painted with dark lacquer

We fix the side brackets on the base with holes. If you haven't found a pair of beautiful metal holders, you can get by with wooden props. Each bracket has holes on the top for fixing the shelf, on the side bar for fixing to the wall.

Finished wooden product on metal holders

The shelf is ready, it remains to prepare the pots. Let's make an elementary drainage system using ordinary beads. We glue the beads to the saucers, and then to the bottom of the pots - this way we will fix the saucers under the pots so that the water does not run down to the floor.

Life hack for drainage

The final touch - we arrange the flowers planted in pots in niches. The result is an elegant and original composition.

Shelf with convenient niches for pots

This pot holder can also be placed from the outside wall of the house to decorate the terrace or window with beautiful blooming flowers.

Original hanging rack on ropes

Often, unusual devices are used to fasten wooden surfaces to the wall, for example, thick hemp or synthetic ropes. Rough thick ropes are a wonderful decor item, and the room does not need to be decorated in a nautical or rustic style.

Convenient shelf for flowers and utensils

For assembly, you will need a simple set of tools and decorative material. The main parts are two pieces of strong rope and two (three or four) pieces of wood.

Materials and tools for assembly and decoration

To fix wooden blanks in the corners, you need to make holes with a drill. The diameter of the holes should be slightly less than the thickness of the rope.

Hole drilling process

Two pieces of rope are inserted in such a way that loops are formed from above - for hanging the shelves to the wall.

Connecting boards with ropes

The lower elements are fixed with large knots, the upper ones - with pins or glazing beads (small wooden pins).

Inserting glazing beads

It remains to drive in a strong hook or nail and hang the result of the work on the wall. There are a lot of ideas for decorating wall shelves on ropes. Perhaps in the process you will come up with a new original version.

Finished product options

Thick ropes can be replaced with bright cords, ribbons or chains - with each new fastening, the product will take on a different sound.
