The Church Slavonic Dictionary is the most complete reference book on the language and the only one in which the modern spelling norm is given. In addition, the dictionary includes the vocabulary of Old Russian manuscripts of the 11th-17th centuries, marked with special signs. The Russian-Church Slavonic Dictionary is the first reference book for translation from the Russian language.

The title of a dictionary entry is written in modern Church Slavonic graphics with all diacritical marks (bie). For nouns, the genitive form is indicated (adamant, -а), for adjectives - feminine and neuter (ѓгнчій, -а, -е), for verbs - the infinitive and present tense forms. Then the transcription is given without diacritics, so that the user can find any word by searching (Ctrl + F) by typing the word in the modern Cyrillic alphabet (ґдwнаJ, -S [adonai]).

The most important proper names are also included in the dictionary: ґвраамъ, -а [abraham] noun m. own. I tv.

For biblical vocabulary, the corresponding Greek original is given: ґgiasma, -ы [hagiasma] noun f. II tv.ἁγίασμα. After the interpretation, a context of use is given with a translation and an indication of the source:

This concise dictionary is a textbook for better comprehension of Church Slavonic texts in the liturgical books of the Russian Orthodox Church. It contains the words of the Church Slavonic language:

1) available in liturgical books;

2) incomprehensible for those who poorly know the Church Slavonic language;

3) preserved in modern Russian, but with a different stress or meaning. The dictionary is not intended to explain specific theological or religious concepts.

For example, the word is not considered Proskomidia but the word is explained Proskomisati... Similarly, the word Felonne has a definition not because it means the sacred vestment of the presbyter, but because it is found in the liturgical book "Apostle" (2 Tim. 4, 13). Words are given in modern Russian spelling and are arranged in the order of the Russian alphabet.
