But when choosing fasteners, you need to take into account the possible load on the bench. The assembly should start from the frame, or rather from the legs, of which there will be two or three pairs, depending on the length of the bench and if it is designed for two persons (meter), then the third pair is not needed. I would like to draw your attention to the stiffness of the legs.

Usually these are two vertical boards or two beams - one to the top of the back, and the other to the bottom of the bench. There are also two jumpers: the lower one connects the posts in the middle of the short riser, and the upper one forms the basis for fastening the boards to the seat. In order for such an assembly to never loosen, gussets should be screwed under the lower and / or under the upper jumper - these are triangles from the same profile from which the frame is made.

Of course, for a 50 mm board this is too much load, but for a half of a log, where the radius is 100-150 mm, it is not at all difficult to withstand such a weight.

The legs, in the direct sense of the word, do not have to be assembled and installed here - their function will be performed by two logs installed on bricks (foundation) in a horizontal position. To prevent such stands from rolling, you need to make the bottom flat, as shown in the drawing above, by cutting off part of the log with a chainsaw. In this case, it will be necessary to calculate these supports so that they lie strictly horizontally and are on the same level with each other. Grooves are made on the workpiece for the bench, into which the rounded supports will then sit - this is also shown in the drawing.

Note. If you do not find logs thick enough to make the final seat height 40-50 cm, then you can attach thinner ones to the thick log supports. In the end, it can turn out to be even more attractive.

Now let's talk about the back - it can be straight or inclined, it all depends on how you install the stop profiles - strictly vertically or at a slope. In the first case, two round logs of ø80-100 mm are suitable as thrust profiles - they will need to be screwed to the horizontally lying logs that function as legs and to a half of the log, that is, to the seat. To create rigidity of the structure, the lower parts of these racks are cut lengthwise to the height of the bench. For fixing, it is best to use not ordinary long self-tapping screws, but anchor bolts, for example, for an anchor with a section of 10 mm, they drill mounting holes ø6 mm, or for a section of 12-14 mm, a hole will be needed with ø8-10 mm.

For an inclined back, a 40 × 70 or 50 × 100 mm board or ø100-120 mm round timber is used as racks. If it is still a round timber, then in the places of abutment to the supports (legs) and to the bench, you need to make cuts to create a plane for rigidity. But when using a 40 × 70 mm board, you can even select the grooves in the horizontally lying logs with a milling cutter in order to hammer in these stops. The groove must be coated with wood glue or PVA, and the board must be screwed to the bench.

The back, both on strictly vertical and inclined stops, is fixed according to the same principle as the seat - they select the landing grooves in the half of the log, and, having coated them with glue, screw them with self-tapping screws. At the end of the assembly, the structure is treated with an antiseptic and / or moisture-repellent paints and varnishes such as alkyd-urethane varnishes. Making benches: six easy projects

You will never go wrong by choosing a tree for work - a soft, pliable in processing and at the same time durable material that can serve for more than a dozen years. From wood, you can create elements of various shapes and sizes, curly inserts, volumetric and miniature details.

Project # 1 - a simple bench with a back

If you have difficulty drawing up a sketch, you can use a ready-made drawing of a garden bench.

The advantage of this option is the simplicity of the preparation of parts and the speed of assembly. For work, you will need thick bars for support (3 large and 3 smaller), bars or boards for the seat and back.

This model is portable - it can always be rearranged to another, more convenient place. To ensure that it always stands level and does not sway, when installing the supports, it is necessary to monitor the exact location of the parts - even a slight discrepancy will cause the product to skew.

At the end of the work - and this applies to any wood product located on the street - all wooden parts must be treated with a special impregnation against mold or varnished, also containing protective components. Treated wood does not lend itself to moisture, lasts longer and looks like new for a long time.

Project no. 2 - bench in classic style

This option is more solid than the previous one. A bench with a rectangular seat and the same back looks great against the background of a house built of any material - wood, brick, stone.

For a change, you can change the color, choose a shade that is closer to country buildings. The back of such a bench is a real find for those who like to dream up and embody their ideas in wood. Straight vertical bars can be replaced with criss-cross bars.

Several people can easily fit on such a bench.

The top horizontal bar would look good if covered with delicate carvings or colored ornamentation. Armrests and legs can also be curly - but it all depends on the desire and skill of the master. To make such a bench for a summer residence, it will take only a few evenings, and you can enjoy your vacation on it for more than one year.

Project number 3 - a table with benches

The family garden set consists of a comfortable table and two fixed benches.
