Equipment for clearing snow by hand. A do-it-yourself snowblower is quite real. Rotary snow blower manufacturing

With the onset of winter, the demand for snow removal equipment for the home increases markedly. Removable devices that can be used in conjunction with mini tractors and walk-behind tractors are especially appreciated. Some do-it-yourselfers also display their snow removal equipment for sale on various sites, stock exchanges and message boards. Let's talk about how to make a snow blower for a walk-behind tractor on your own.

  • to study the device and principle of operation of known machines for mechanized snow removal;
  • decide on the type of snow plow attachment for the walk-behind tractor, which you can make with your own hands;
  • find working drawings or develop them yourself;
  • work out the technology and procedure for performing work;
  • purchase or prepare a tool for the manufacture of parts and assemblies;
  • collect materials and components for the future snow blower.

DIY snowblower tools

Any work can only be done with a tool, so it is advisable to have:

  • electric drill - without it, it is impossible to make holes of a given diameter in the right places;
  • riveter - will help to create strong permanent joints in sheet material;
  • electric welding machine - required for welding the frame, as well as individual units;
  • angle grinder - will be used for cutting steel blanks, as well as for cleaning welded joints;
  • scissors for metal;
  • measuring tool - used to mark and control the parameters of parts, as well as the entire snow blower (usually a caliper, tape measure and ruler are enough);
  • hand tools for fixing parts and temporary fasteners - will allow you to work efficiently and with minimal effort;
  • slipway - even the simplest one, made of wooden blocks, will help simplify the assembly process, the design of the snow blower has a spatial structure that needs to be assembled, fixing individual parts and assemblies in different places.

Types of devices for mechanized snow removal

Mechanical home-made snow blowers are equipped with internal combustion engines. Most often they are mounted (trailed attachments), they are mounted to walk-behind tractors or tractors, including mini tractors. They are distinguished by their low weight and uncomplicated device.

According to the principle of operation, snowblowers are divided into:

  • auger-rotor devices having two types of active organs: auger or augers, which move snow to the rotor inlet, and the rotor itself, which throws snow in the right direction;
  • dump grader or bulldozer type - operate on the principle of mechanical movement of the snow mass, more often such devices are used on self-propelled vehicles;
  • dump shovel used in conjunction with walk-behind tractors to shift snow in a confined space;
  • air-ventilating installations - are applicable only on freshly fallen snow, they are very small in size and extremely simple device, snow removal occurs due to the created air flow.

The most widely used are rotary auger snow blowers. They cope well with snow cover of various sizes. Sometimes there are problems with caked snow, so in expensive installations there is also an auxiliary shaft with spikes that destroy the compacted snow. In some devices, the augers are equipped with additional removable toothed nozzles, they cut a dense mass of snow.

Features of the Air Rotary Snow Blower

The simplest snow thrower is based on air-rotor action. Usually this is a box that can be moved on small skis in the snow. There is a rotor inside. The drive to the rotor is carried out from a stand-alone engine or from the power take-off shaft of the walk-behind tractor.

The receiving part of the box is made so that, when moving forward, the snow flows onto the rotor blades. Further, the mass is ejected by rotating blades through the nozzle located above. Its deflector can be directed in any direction. Therefore, the snow is thrown to the left or right, where required in a particular case.

The peculiarity of the device is that, in addition to snow, a fairly powerful air flow is formed. Therefore, a snow-air mixture forms at the exit, which can fly up to 5-6 m. This is enough to clear the passages.

The disadvantages of air-ventilation snow blowers include a relatively narrow grip, as well as the impossibility of snow removal in the presence of a caked mass. When clearing passages immediately after snow falls, a snow thrower of this type has a fairly high performance. DIYers quite often take a similar design as a basis. The main thing is to create a high rotor speed.

Shovel blade - the simplest snow blower

In some cases, it is not necessary to have a complex unit of a walk-behind tractor and a support on wheels, equipped with a bulldozer shovel. It is enough to have a mechanical assistant, which will move a mass of snow over a short distance.

A special shovel is attached to the walk-behind tractor, and then only due to the tractive effort created by the walk-behind tractor, the snowball is shifted to the side. Using reverse gear shifting, the snow blower moves back. The area is cleared of snow by successive movements forward and backward.

When moving forward, the snow shovel goes down; when moving back, it is lifted up. With a low snow cover, the efficiency of this working body is quite high.

Snow blower device

The mounted auger snow blower has a metal body with a shaft inside. On the shaft there are auger blades made of steel sheet of complex shape. The shaft is mounted in bearings, which allows it to rotate.

The rotor is visible inside. A swivel pipe is located above the rotor. It can be turned in any direction. There is a hitch for hitching the auger snow blower, inside which the power take-off shaft (PTO) of the walk-behind tractor is located.

The torque is transferred to the actuators. When the auger shaft rotates and moves forward, the snow is captured by the blades and moves from the periphery to its center. The snow mass, moving along the augers, collapses, its structure changes, so it will be easy to throw it aside.

From the auger pick-up mechanism, snow flows onto the rotor blades. Here, its translational movement is converted into rotational movement. It receives tangential acceleration and is thrown out through the nozzle in a given direction: to the right or to the left in the direction of the snow blower. Here the operator guides the deflector so that the removed snow does not interfere with the work.

Making a rotary snow blower for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands

For the independent manufacture of a mounted home-made auger snow blower (auger rotor), you need to think over the placement of the main elements of the equipment, and also tie the dimensions to the existing walk-behind tractor. Therefore, first of all, a layout diagram of the device is created.

It is important to develop a mechanism for transmitting torque from the power take-off shaft to the executive elements of the snow blower.

Necessary materials

To make a rotary-type snow blower, you need to purchase:

  • roofing galvanized sheet, it will be used for the manufacture of screw and rotor bodies, as well as a branch pipe for ejection of snow with a deflector;
  • equal angle 40 or 50 mm, it will be used for the manufacture of the frame;
  • a sheet of steel with a thickness of 2 mm, from which the blades of the auger and rotor will be cut;
  • a profile pipe will be needed for the manufacture of brackets;
  • bearing housings and the bearings themselves for installing the shaft;
  • a pipe or circle with an outer diameter of 30 millimeters or more will be used as shafts;
  • pulleys, sprockets and other transmission elements;
  • hardware for creating detachable connections.

Making a homemade auger-rotary snow blower

An approximate procedure for manufacturing a mounted auger rotor for snow removal:

  1. Parts of the auger body are cut from the roofing sheet. They are bent over a suitable cylinder. The frame of the auger body is welded from a rolled angle or profile pipe. The body and frame are connected into a single unit.
  2. Auger details. For this, segments are cut out of sheet steel, and then blades are formed from them. The auger shaft must be adjusted to fit the bearings, therefore, on a lathe, the surface is machined to fit the mounting size of the supports, as well as the transmission elements. The blades are welded to the shaft, forming an auger, converging towards the center.

  1. The bearing housings and the bearings themselves are installed. The auger element of the snowblower is being assembled.
  2. The body of the snow removal rotor is cut from the roofing sheet. Using suitable objects, the final shaping of the rotor housing is carried out.
  3. Rotor details. The rotor blades are cut from sheet steel. The rotor shaft is adjusted to fit the bearings and transmission elements. Blades are welded to the rotor shaft.
  4. Balancing is mandatory, since the rotor rotates at a fairly high speed.
  5. The frame of the rotor body is welded from a corner or a profile pipe. The bearing housings and the bearings themselves are installed. Assembly: the rotor assembly is assembled.
  6. A homemade frame is made, on which the rotor and auger assembly will be placed.
  7. The working body of the machine is being assembled. Transmission elements are mounted.
  8. Brackets for connecting the working body with the walk-behind tractor are fitted.
  9. Bench tests are carried out, according to the results of which defects and shortcomings are determined. After eliminating the shortcomings, the tests of the auger-rotary type snowblower under operating conditions are started.

It remains to use the manufactured rotary snow blower for the walk-behind tractor for its intended purpose.

Winter is undoubtedly a magical time, especially in good weather - a fluffy snow carpet covers the ground, glitters in the sun and ... interferes with walking. In order not to be walled up in high snowdrifts and not to spend the whole day trying to overcome the snow with a shovel, and snowblowers were created. In this article, you will find the information you need to help you build your own snow blower.

The designs are different, the result is the same

Most of the machines sold in stores consist of an engine, auger snow pick-up (screw blades at the front), and a rotor assembly (an impeller at the back of the mechanism).

Through the gearbox, the motor rotates the auger, breaking the crust, and rakes the crushed snow to the rotor blades, which push the snow through the outlet pipe to a distance of up to 3 meters. This design is called a two-stage design, since both the raking auger and the rotor ejecting the snow work in it.

These are quite powerful machines, so those who assemble a home-made snow blower often simplify them: some have blades on the auger, which themselves throw snow, albeit not as well as the rotor. Or they do it differently, leaving one throwing rotor in the structure, and the snow comes to it thanks to the efforts of a person who rakes it with a bucket. So that you have a lot to choose from, we have collected both options, which have already managed to prove themselves from the best side more than once, and besides, they are quite simple to upgrade, based on what parts you have in stock.

What to build a homemade snow blower from?

If you are determined to assemble a snow blower with your own hands, first you need to choose a power unit for it. It can be a gasoline or electric engine, or maybe a ready-made device, for example, a walk-behind tractor. Note that the optimal engine speed is up to 1500 rpm.

The frame will require small diameter steel pipes or a steel angle.

If you are looking to assemble a two-stage snow blower, you will most likely need a gearbox. The easiest way is to purchase it on the Internet with delivery.

Choosing and collecting

To make a rotary snow blower is best guided by drawings from the good old magazine "Modelist-Constructor". It describes the design of the "Blizzard" snowplow, which can be assembled even by a schoolboy.

The rotary home-made snow blower is structurally similar to the "Blizzard". True, professionals advise installing more than two blades - this makes the unit more stable.

To assemble it, you need a gas or electric motor, 2mm sheet steel for the rotor and blades on it, as well as sheets of thinner steel or aluminum for the snowplow body.

In this design, the engine rotates a shaft through a chain drive, at the end of which a rotor is fixed. The shaft is secured through two pairs of bearings to avoid misalignment. Many craftsmen use direct drive from an electric motor, but this can lead to overheating and rebooting of the latter.

Homemade snow blower with auger

To assemble a similar unit, you need to go through several steps in sequence:
1. A frame is made from pipes of a suitable diameter or angles. Most drawings indicate dimensions of 50 x 70 centimeters. You should choose them based on the size of the motor, as well as the fact that the bucket is suggested to be made in the size of 50 x 30.

2. The auger is made from a suitable pipe, in the center of which is a blade 270 mm long and 120 mm wide from 2-3 mm steel, and the screws are made from dense rubber (conveyor belt) or the same steel. It should be noted that the steel version is preferable. To make the screws as shown, they need to be cut from a sheet of steel, welded and folded back by hand using the pattern below.

Pattern for two half-discs (spiral turns).

3. If you choose an auger from a conveyor belt, then you will need about one and a half meters 1 cm thick. 4 rings are cut from it, in the same way as in the pattern above.
4. For the manufacture of the auger, you can purchase a 1.5 m conveyor belt 10 mm thick, in order to cut out four rings with a diameter of 28 cm from it. You can cut it with two screws screwed into the board, rotating it in a circle, or with a jigsaw.
5. The bearings in which the shaft will rotate must be closed; additionally, it is better to close them with a rubber plug, otherwise they will quickly jam.
6. The sides of the bucket can be made from 10-15 mm plywood, it is better to fix them to the frame to maintain rigidity.

7. If in this design you want to use an electric motor - protect it from snow, if a walk-behind tractor - immediately think about what adapters you will need to purchase to connect to it.

Homemade snow blower for walk-behind tractor. Please note: the body is made entirely of steel.

Electrical wires must be thick enough to withstand the load from the motor and must also be insulated so as not to become brittle in the cold.

You can use these principles in your own design, since life still makes its own adjustments, and handmade units come out unique. Making a snow blower with your own hands is not difficult, and as a result, you can get a good device for relatively little money. Happy design!

Homemade snow removal equipment has been very popular among summer residents and rural residents for many years. And this is not surprising, because every owner of a summer cottage is faced with the problem of snow removal in winter.

Of course, this can be done manually, armed with a shovel, but it will take a lot of time and physical effort.

Another option is to purchase a dedicated snow blower if available. But if there is no place in the plans for an extra purchase, then a self-made snow blower with the help of an old tool with an engine, which is probably stale in every garage, can help out. How to do this will be discussed in this article.

Did you know? The first auger snow blowers were invented in Canada. For the first time such a machine was patented by Robert Harris, a resident of Dalhousie (New Brunswick) in 1870. Harris called his car the "Railway screw snow excavator" and used it to clear snow from the railway tracks.

Auger snow blower - what is it

In order to properly make a homemade snow blower with your own hands, you must first understand the design of its main mechanisms. Any snow blower consists of one main working element - it is an auger which is located inside a welded metal body. The auger is a rod (shaft), along the longitudinal axis of which there is a solid spiral surface. The shaft rotates on bearings and thus drives the spiral profile.

The principle of operation of the auger snow blower

According to the method of clearing snow, snowplow machines are divided into one-stage (auger) and two-stage (auger).

How a single stage auger machine works

The principle of operation of a single-stage, or auger, snow blower is that raking, crushing and dropping snow occurs only due to the rotation of the auger. Moreover, there is a serrated and smooth working edge of the auger: smooth - for removing loose snow; toothed - for hard, icy snow crust.

Auger machines, as a rule, are lighter than auger rotor machines and can only be non-self-propelled. These are the so-called shovels on wheels that need to be pushed forward, which causes them to shovel the snow and throw it aside. The snow plow auger is driven by an electric or gasoline engine (two-stroke or four-stroke). The good thing about such cars is that they are quite easy to operate, compact and inexpensive.

Working principle of a two-stage machine

A two-stage, or auger-rotor, snow blower is arranged a little differently. The first stage of its design provides for shoveling snow with an auger; the second stage - ejection through the chute is carried out using a special rotor - a dump impeller.

The auger in such models of rotary snow blowers is arranged according to the standard principle of a screw shaft, with a smooth or serrated edge. The augers can be metal steel or rubber, rubber-plastic, steel-reinforced, depending on whether it is a manual snow blower or a self-propelled one.

The impeller of a snow blower for two-stage auger-rotor machines has from three to six blades and can also be made of different materials, depending on the intensity of the work that it will have to perform. It can be either plastic (for simple models) or metal (for a wider area of work).

DIY snow blower - where to start

For self-manufacture of a snowblower with your own hands, you must first decide on the type of device, based on your specific needs. It is possible to assemble both one-stage and two-stage models. If you live in places where heavy snowfall is rare, then a screw machine will suffice. For those who live in a region with harsh, "generous" winters, a two-stage auger snow blower is required.

Choice of engine: electric or gasoline

According to the engine type, snowblowers are electric and gasoline. Electrically powered machines are designed to work close to home and away from electrical outlets. The peculiarities of electric powered snow blowers are that they are more economical to operate, but less maneuverable. Petrol engines on snow blowers are considered more versatile, however, their price and maintenance costs are correspondingly higher. Therefore, the choice will again depend on the specific amount of tasks the snow thrower needs to carry out.

Important! If you have chosen the option of a home-made electric snow blower, then it is worth considering that a standard household electrical wire becomes brittle and loses its elasticity at sub-zero temperatures. Therefore, it is recommended to use cords of the PGVKV, KG-KhL, SiHF-J or SiHF-O type.

Installing the engine or using a walk-behind tractor

The stage of choosing an engine can be skipped if you have decided to design a snow blower on a walk-behind tractor: this role will be played by the unit itself.

If the car will be with a gasoline engine, then an internal combustion engine should be used, which can be taken from an old walk-behind tractor or lawn mower. An operating power of 6.5 l / s will be sufficient. The design provides for the installation of the engine on a quick-release platform in order to facilitate its maintenance and repair if necessary. It is also recommended to manually start the engine motor, since installing the generator and battery will significantly increase the weight of the machine, which will make it less maneuverable and difficult to drive.

It is possible to construct a snow blower on an electric motor. In this case, it is worth remembering that this option significantly limits the radius of the machine. In addition, electric motors are afraid of moisture, so they require the installation of high-quality waterproofing.

How to make a snow blower with your own hands

A manual snow blower consists of the following mandatory elements: a wheel frame (a control handle is attached to it), an engine, a fuel tank (if the machine is with an internal combustion engine), a snow bucket or a blade with guides (skis) and a pipe for snow discharge. It is worth considering that the future snow blower is based on a lightweight and durable platform at the same time.

How to make a snow blower from a walk-behind tractor

In winter, the walk-behind tractor can be used for snow removal. The easiest way to assemble your snow blower is to use the factory-built snow blower attachment. However, skilled craftsmen advise not to spend too much on a factory nozzle, but to assemble a snowplow for a walk-behind tractor with your own hands from available materials and spare parts. There are three options for snow plow attachments to the walk-behind tractor.

First option - these are hard rotating brushes, which are well suited for recently fallen snow, as well as for those places where there is a possibility of damage to the decorative surface of the sites. Such brushes are mounted under the canopy of a rotating auger; the width of their capture reaches 1 m. You can also adjust the angle of capture in three directions: forward, left, right.

The second option of a snow thrower for a walk-behind tractor is this is a hanging shovel with knives, suitable for already accumulated snow. Such an attachment is attached to the towing device with a universal hitch. The bottom of the shovel is covered with rubber to prevent damage to the surface and the shovel itself. Such a snow blower works on the principle of a mini-bulldozer: it loosens a layer of snow, captures it and moves it to the dump. The capture width also reaches 1 m at a time.

However, the most effective snow plow attachment to the walk-behind tractor is rotary snow thrower... The main design elements of this nozzle are a conventional paddlewheel auger. As it rotates, it grabs the snow, which is moved upward with the help of the wheel. Passing through a special funnel, the snow is thrown far beyond the site. This is the most productive version of the nozzle, allowing you to capture a mass of snow up to 25 cm thick

Now we will consider step-by-step recommendations on how to make do-it-yourself snow-removing motoblocks with a rotary attachment. The design is a metal body with a screw shaft inside. You can use a ready-made screw shaft or make one yourself.

So, bearings No. 203 are used to rotate the auger shaft. The housings for the auger are made of aluminum and are attached to the sides of the snow blower with bolts that must be tightened with nuts. The drum in which the rotor is spinning can be made from a 20 liter aluminum boiler: it must be attached to the front wall of the body using rivets with a diameter of 4 mm.

The rotor for the snow blower is driven through a system of adapters by means of the rear power take-off shaft of the walk-behind tractor. If the snowplow attachment was purchased ready-made, then these adapters are included with it. If the nozzle is made by hand, you need to purchase them additionally.

You also need to make a twisting mechanism that would be transmitted from the walk-behind tractor to the snow blower. For this, the A-100 belt and the pulley intended for it are suitable. Thus, with the help of a V-belt connection, the torque is transmitted from the engine to the shaft of the walk-behind tractor, connected to the shaft of the snow plow.

Important! Only closed bearings should be chosen, it is necessary to exclude snow from entering them.

DIY snowblower: making auger and frame

Let us now consider how to make an auger, a frame, as well as additional accessories required for a self-assembled snow blower.

To do this, you need to prepare:

  • sheet metal or iron box for the manufacture of the auger and its body;
  • steel corner 50x50 mm for the frame - 2 pcs.;
  • plywood 10 mm thick for side parts;
  • metal tube for snow blower handle (0.5 inch diameter);
  • ¾ ”tube for auger shaft.
To make a screw shaft, the pipe is cut through. This is necessary to fix the 120 x 270 mm metal shovel, which is needed to push the snow. Also, the pipe, in addition to the shovel, must be equipped with four rubber rings, 28 cm in diameter, which are cut out of the rubber base with a jigsaw.

Since the auger will rotate in self-aligning bearings # 205, these also need to be placed on the pipe. A piece of plastic pipe with a diameter of 160 mm is suitable for throwing snow, which is fixed on a pipe of the same diameter and placed directly on the auger body.

To make your own auger for a snow blower, you need:

  • cut 4 discs from the prepared iron;
  • cut the discs in half and bend each in a spiral;
  • weld four disk blanks in a spiral on a pipe, on one side and on the other;
  • put bearings on the ends of the pipe.
The frame of the snowplow can be made of steel corners 50x50 mm, welded to each other. The engine platform will subsequently be attached to this structure. From the bottom of the snowplow, it is necessary to adapt the skis, the basis of which is wooden beams. These bars must be equipped with plastic overlays, which are made from a box from electrical wiring.

The machine is now ready for use.

In order for a self-made snowblower to serve as a reliable assistant in the household as long as possible, you must adhere to some recommendations:

  • it will not be superfluous to add special safety bolts or bushings to the design of the machine in order to avoid the ingress of ice fragments or stones into the engine;
  • choose high-quality bearings, since they play an important role in the durability of the snow blower;
  • when choosing a drive, give preference to a belt drive, rather than a rigid one, since there is a possibility that constantly moving parts can jam when stones or ice hit;
  • a snowblower from a walk-behind tractor requires storage in a warm place in the winter. This will eliminate the need to waste time warming up the engine;
  • periodically change the oil for the gearbox, in the winter use a more liquid one, since at low temperatures it is subject to rapid thickening.

Motoblocks, used in almost every courtyard, are seasonal mechanisms. Plowing and sowing in spring, crop cultivation in summer, harvesting harvest in autumn. In winter, these useful devices stand idle, losing economic efficiency.

But it is enough to make one more device for the walk-behind tractor, and you will get a home-made snow blower.

Practically throughout Russia, snow removal is becoming a mandatory procedure outside of large cities. To mechanize this process with low financial costs, we will tell you how to build a snow blower with your own hands.

The principle of operation of the auger mechanism

To make the right snow blower, drawings or at least sketches are required.

Before you start developing your own project, you need to understand the structure of the snow removal mechanism. The chamber, in which the augers are installed, moves with its lower cut along solid ground, picking up snow into its cavity, like a bulldozer's knife.

A rotary screw structure is installed inside, which moves the snow towards the outlet. This part of the structure can be either in the middle or on one side of the camera. If the working width is 1 m or more, it is advisable to make a receiving hole in the middle in order to load the rotor more evenly.

In addition to the helical augers, the rotor is equipped with throwing blades, with the help of which the snow falls into the receiving opening. Further, a mechanism comes into play, pushing the snow through the bell in the desired direction, or immersing it into the body of a nearby vehicle.

DIY snow blower - types of structures

The main difference between auger snow blowers is not in the way of collecting snow, but in the possibility of movement.

  1. Passive constructions. The operator moves a mechanism of this type independently, the power plant drives only the rotor itself. This design is easy to manufacture, but you will have to make a lot of effort when clearing snow, especially if the cover is high and dense.

    The snow blower is equipped with a light, low-power motor, for example, from a chainsaw. Alternatively, an electric motor can be adapted if the cleaning area is located near the point of connection to electricity.

    Sometimes they hang such a snow blower on a walk-behind tractor. Only you will need a power take-off shaft to drive the auger mechanism. Then self-propelledness is provided by the walk-behind tractor itself, and part of the power goes to the drive for snow removal;

  2. Self-propelled structures. A self-made snow blower of this type is initially designed to be able to move independently. Either the drive of the drive wheels is installed on the frame, or a walk-behind tractor with its own wheels is integrated into the design.

    It is more difficult to create such a project, but it pays off with the ease of use and less effort that you spend when clearing snow;

  3. There are also plow-type snow blowers. For work, you only need to make a semicircular blade. However, this design has serious disadvantages.

First, a very powerful motor is required for such a cleaner, since during work, a lot of snow resistance acts on the blade.

Secondly, the quality of cleaning leaves much to be desired. On the edge of the cleared road, dense snowdrifts remain, which are more difficult to remove than virgin snow.

At the same time, the auger sweeper evenly scatters the loosened snow over a large area without creating dense piles.

How to make a screw snow blower with your own hands?

First of all, we make a snow plow in which the rotary auger will work. It should be barrel-shaped, with a receiving sector of at least 120 °.

It can be made from sheet steel 2 mm thick, or from aluminum sheets 3 mm thick. Corrugated aluminum used for off-road equipment is excellent. It is more rigid due to the molded pattern.

The most economical option is galvanized iron sheet. Given the low strength, it is better to make the sidewalls of plywood or PCB.

Now about the most important part of the mechanism - about the augers. They can be welded from sheet steel (or the same aluminum), or they can be cut from dense rubber, from an old conveyor used in granaries or in a mining department. If you can ask the tire shop for old tires, the sidewalls make excellent blades for the auger.

Making a rotor from sheet steel requires care and careful marking. Moreover, one hundred spiral must be cut absolutely symmetrically, the rotation step must be maintained along the entire length of the structure. Segments are welded using jigs, which can be made from a pair of vices.

Throwing blades are made of thicker metal, since they are subject to the load of throwing up already compacted snow.
The result should be the following design.

Important! When designing a rotary auger, do not confuse the direction of rotation and synchronize it with the throwing vanes. A properly assembled mechanism eliminates the need for an additional rotor in the outlet pipe. The force of the auger will be enough for a homemade snow blower to throw snow a sufficient distance.

The finished auger can be adapted to a walk-behind tractor, installed on wheels and moved independently. Or even clip to the frame in front of an SUV or pickup truck. The main thing is to ensure the supply of torque to the working shaft.

Power plant for auger snow blower

If you decide to assemble a snow blower with your own hands on the basis of a walk-behind tractor, the drive design lies on the surface. If you have a power take-off shaft, you simply bring the cardan, chain or belt drive onto the auger shaft, and come up with a clutch mechanism. There is no need to rotate the shaft idle.

If your walk-behind tractor is equipped only with a gearbox, it will be necessary to retract the belt or chain drive to the auger from the drive axle. The gear ratio of the pulleys or chain sprockets is selected in the direction of increasing the speed.

The auger works more efficiently at high speed, the worm principle only works on very dense snow. That is, the auger shaft should rotate 2-3 times faster than the wheel shaft.

If there is an additional rotor ejection mechanism on the outlet pipe, its speed should be even higher, since the volume of snow in the center of the auger is maximum, and it should be thrown out of the chamber as soon as possible.

If there is no need to clean driveways to your home and garage, the snow blower can be lightweight and compact. The width of the working area is no more than 50 cm. Such a design is not necessarily self-propelled, and it does not need a motor as powerful. For example - from a chainsaw.

We make a chamber with a screw in the same way as in the previous version. We select the appropriate materials and sizes only. Auger for one revolution in each chamber wing, secondary rotor on the outlet tube is not needed.

Such a snow blower can move on improvised skids installed along the edges of the chamber. Instead of a bar, a chain drive is supplied from the chainsaw to the rotor. The drive sprocket remains the same.

An additional clutch mechanism is not required, the regular clutch of the chainsaw copes with this task perfectly.

The only thing that should be taken care of is the weight distribution. Since the engine from the chainsaw is attached on one side (this cannot be done in the center, the feed blades interfere), the control handle must be shifted from the center towards the motor mount. Then it will be more convenient to work.

The outlet pipe is made of a plastic water conduit. A diameter of 120-150 mm is quite enough for such a volume of snow.

Such a compact snow blower will clear paths in your yard in a few minutes, and it will take less time to make one. And in the summer, the chainsaw is dismantled from the auger and used for its intended purpose.

All the details and secrets of making a snow blower from a chainsaw in this video. You don't even need a drawing, everything is clearly and in detail shown and explained.

DIY electric snow blower

If you have a conditionally free electric motor with a power of 1-3 kW, you can create a productive snow blower on its basis.

Important! The economy in this design works only when the length of the supply wire does not exceed 30 m. Given the aggressive operating conditions, the wire must be of high quality, and therefore expensive in terms of cost. A regular extension cord for a computer will not work.

Taking into account the design feature of the electric motor, the cleaning mechanism can be performed not by auger, but by a rotary one. The working nozzle is put directly on the motor shaft, the working speed is high.
