Traction Turret


Difficulty: easy/medium.

The attractor turret is a little more difficult to implement. It consists of the turret itself with one snow golem inside and some kind of trap in front of it (lava lake, pit, etc.). It works like this: a mob enters the golem’s field of view, the golem attacks the target, but cannot push it away, the target moves towards the golem, but falls into the trap set.

  • skeletons have less time to react, which means golems have a longer lifespan
  • more effective in defense if the player does not sleep at night
  • if the trap leads to a mob farm, then drops from mobs can be easily collected

  • since only one golem is used, if it is killed by a skeleton, the trap becomes useless

Wall

Walls are simple vertical barriers that can be constructed from a variety of materials:

Also in version 1.4.2 and later, a cobblestone fence appeared. If you punch a 2x2 hole in the wall and put a cobblestone fence there, then there will be a small gap between the fences through which you can shoot with a bow. Skeletons have a small chance of falling into the gap.

Also, if you make a moat with water on the inside of the wall, then when teleporting through the wall, the Endwalker can fall straight into the water, which will cause damage to him. If you have places in the wall from which you can shoot at mobs, then do not make the moat too wide( 3 blocks maximum from the wall). Also place blocks on which you will jump across the ditch.

Lighting

Yes, lighting can also delay mobs. Provide good lighting to the area around your base, and mobs that had to spawn away from your building will have to walk much longer (if they even find where your base is).

Ditch/pit

  • mines are disposable and therefore require constant replacement
  • you (or your pet) may accidentally be blown up by a mine
  • if you die in a minefield, your things will fly away

"Additional: " This also works for mods that add explosives or mines as a separate block/item.

If you dig a hole very deep and place explosives on the 2nd block (counting from the surface), sand or gravel on top of it, and a pressure plate on top, then the mob, the player, the thrown object (if the pressure plate is wooden) will fall to the bottom of the hole and explode inside without causing damage to the surface. This removes some of the shortcomings.

Piston trap

Classification: damage dealer.
Difficulty: medium.
Autonomous: yes.
This trap consists of several components:

  1. Sensor, which is a pressure plate connected to the pistons through several repeaters (they are necessary so that the trap does not go off prematurely) and a signal amplifier (so that it does not release the mob ahead of time)
  2. Actually, herself trap, consisting of a narrow corridor with pistons (if you want to disguise them, place sticky pistons behind the blocks). When the sensor is triggered, it sends a signal to the trap, which slams shut, pressing the mob against the wall and causing damage to it.

Using mobs

Classification: Delay/Damage Dealer.
Difficulty: medium.
Autonomous: no, but can last a long time (requires replacement of destroyed mobs).
Friendly mobs can help you in battle. You can tame a couple of wolves and leave them outside the gate at night to fight mobs. However, wolves are very ineffective in defense, since they constantly follow you, and therefore cannot be left to guard the house. Iron golems are much more effective, since they can kill a mob in a couple of hits, but they require iron. It is also possible to use mobs from mods.

  • you need to change mobs occasionally
  • Golems require a lot of iron and are quite slow; wolves cannot stay to patrol the area

For those who like to do everything with their own hands and who have a lot of red stone and some gold lying around, you can make an alarm. An alarm is a system of pressure plates placed at key points (wall passage, house door, warehouse, etc.) and connected to music units. As soon as a mob or thief steps on the stove, the music block makes a sound, and thus you know that someone has broken into you. For additional security, you can make several music blocks, each connected to its own stove. This will make it easier to locate the intruder.

"Quicksand"

In general, “quicksand” is a wide moat of soul sand (at least 3 blocks wide). It slows down mobs greatly (especially when placed on top of ice or under cobwebs).

Miscellaneous

Museums/schools/libraries

They usually contain samples of pixel art and statues, simple mechanisms, and there are always kind people there who are ready to help with advice. Obviously, in a single-player environment, these buildings are used only for decorative purposes, but on a server they can become a powerful learning tool for beginners and a support for them.

Jail

A building with many small rooms with walls made of cobblestones and iron bars (fence, if there is a lack of iron). It will be even better if you place the prison at the spawn of players with the sign “Shame of our server,” or, conversely, near the bedrock, so that not everyone will know about its existence. It will also be useful if: in prison it will not be possible to light a portal or throw ender pearls, and the plugin will not let players go far from the prison if it is damaged.

Casino

With the help of dispensers, red stone and pressure plates, it is quite possible to build some version of a one-armed bandit.

Railway/metro

To quickly move between houses/cities. There is also an alternative - on servers where there is a certain plugin, you can install portals. There is also a 3rd option - install the SimpleWarps plugin and use warps.

Marina

For sea travelers (there is a problem with constant breakdown of boats) (can be treated by building souls from sand), or you can build a ship in the pier (see above).

Bridge

Bridges are used to quickly cross a river/ravine, or as decoration. If you have enough red stone, you can build a drawbridge. Do you feel sorry for the material? No problem! There is always an alternative - install a plugin. Install the plugin and for the bridge you will need: 14 cobblestones, 2 signs, and 20 seconds.
