Ventilation grilles on the toilet door. Ventilation in the bathroom door: simple methods for arranging ventilation systems. How to install the product

Modern houses are being built using high-tech building materials. As a result, the apartment becomes a sealed room with windows and doors, the design of which is designed to reduce the penetration of noise, dust and drafts.

Air vents in doors

For ventilation of the apartment, special openings are provided in the doors, which are often decorated with grilles. Sometimes air is circulated through a small gap that remains between the door and the floor.

The ventilation holes in the doors must be located according to certain rules:

  1. They must be in dry rooms - bedroom, living room, study.
  2. Exhaust openings are made in rooms with a high level of humidity - in the toilet, bathroom and kitchen.

A competent ventilation device will ensure a constant supply of fresh air.

And so that there are no obstacles in its path, additional ventilation holes are made in the interior doors.

Ventilated bathroom door

Ventilation holes in the rooms must be mandatory, because in this room the air humidity is always increased. There are several options:

  1. Ventilation rings- they cover the through holes drilled at the bottom of the door, they look neat and beautiful. For their manufacture, wood, metal, plastic are used. The simplest rings form ventilation holes and nothing else. But you can buy rings with a protective mesh or sound-deadening properties. The latter are often installed in the bedroom.
  2. Ventilation grates- they are mounted at the bottom of the door and can have an interesting design. Their main advantage is that the air does not go through them directly, which means that there will be no drafts in your apartment.
  3. Door undercut- performed in such a way that a small gap remains when closing. The cut point is closed with a special end edge.

If you are completely satisfied with the bathroom door, you can complement it with ventilation ducts, which are sold separately. In all other cases, it is better to buy a bathroom door with ventilation.

Interior doors with ventilation grill

Doors equipped with a ventilation grill are a ready-made and convenient solution that is used in such premises as:

  • Bathrooms;
  • Toilets;
  • Showers;
  • Changing rooms;
  • Industrial premises;
  • Laboratories.

Ventilation grilles with horizontal louvers are designed for free air circulation between rooms. They can be of any shape, size and color, located at different heights.

The presence of a ventilation grill on the interior door prevents the formation of condensation and ensures long-term operation of paints and varnishes and other coatings.

Fireproof doors with ventilation grill

These products provide fire protection and adequate ventilation in confined spaces. Fire ventilation allows you to organize the safe evacuation of people in the event of a fire and avoid poisoning by hazardous combustion products.

Fire doors with a ventilation grill are installed where constant air ventilation and compliance with fire safety requirements are important. Such objects include:

  • Enterprises and organizations;
  • Children's institutions;
  • Medical institutions;
  • Vaults of securities;
  • Library funds.

You can find out about all the main factors of protection and additional means of protection.

The ventilation grilles in the doors have two functions:

  1. Providing air exchange in the room.
  2. Termination of air access in case of fire.

The functionality of the doors is successfully combined with their design: the product organically complements any interior of the room.

Sanitary doors with ventilation grill

A sanitary door equipped with a ventilation grill is an interior partition, complemented by an air-permeable frame. The latter consists of two slats, one of which has curtains. They provide:

  • Redistribution of air between adjacent rooms, thereby creating excellent ventilation.
  • Visual obstruction - curtains exclude any view.
  • Maintaining an attractive appearance of the door. The grille is made in the same design as the product as a whole.

The lack of fresh air in the house can cause the residents to feel unwell, since carbon dioxide accumulates in a room that is not ventilated for a long time, and a sufficient amount of oxygen is required for a person's normal well-being. In addition, household chemicals and finishing materials release toxins into the air, which, accumulating, can also be harmful to health.

If we talk about ventilation in the bathroom, then the situation is even more serious. In the absence of air movement in a humid environment, molds are formed, the surfaces of walls, doors, furniture accumulate moisture and become unusable.

The problem of ventilation in bathrooms has become especially urgent in the past few years due to the appearance on the market of new noise, hydro and thermal insulation materials. Finishing with such materials makes the bathroom more comfortable and beautiful, but many of them do not let fresh air into the room. When installing a fan in a bathroom, effective ventilation of the room will occur only when the door is open, since a draft is needed for the fan to work well. According to the rules, there should be a small gap between the bottom of the door and the floor, but most people find this approach inconvenient and unaesthetic and install doors that close very tightly, leaving no gaps.

All these problems can be solved by a ventilation grill installed on the door. Today on sale you can find doors with an already built-in grille or with special ventilation holes-rings. But if the door is already installed and there is a problem with air circulation, then you just need to purchase and install the grill.

Types of ventilation grilles

Today, on the market for construction products, you can find many different variations of ventilation grilles. All these designs have differences in shape, purpose, design and color materials, sizes, prices.

The primary classification feature that determines the types of grilles is the method and place of their installation. On this basis, they are divided into:

  • supply air;
  • internal;
  • outdoor.

For installation on the door, supply grilles are used. They are made from the following materials:

  • aluminum;
  • plastic;
  • wood;
  • steel and others.

Ventilation grilles made of plastic have high corrosion resistance and reasonable price. But when direct sunlight hits them, the plastic loses its attractive appearance, and over time it can begin to deteriorate. Therefore, plastic grilles are best used for interior doors inside the house.

Aluminum gratings are quite durable, lightweight, not afraid of sunlight, but they are somewhat more expensive than plastic ones.

Wooden grilles are designed for indoor installation. Their advantages: environmental safety, external presentability, which allows them to harmoniously fit into the interior of the room. However, it should be borne in mind that natural wood requires special regular maintenance, in the absence of which the product may lose its appearance and deteriorate. The cost of wooden ventilation grilles is high in comparison with other analogues.

Steel gratings are heavy and expensive, but at the same time are considered the most durable and durable. Such structures are most often installed on front doors, since they are too heavy for interior doors.

When installing a grill on the front door, you must choose a model with a protective mosquito net so that mosquitoes and flies do not enter the house.

Ventilation grilles let in very little light and practically exclude the possibility of viewing; it is impossible to see the person behind the door through such a structure. In shape, these products can be round, square or rectangular, but the latter option is the most common.

Design features

The main part of the structure is equipped with V-shaped lamellas fixed on a frame made of plastic or metal, and the counterpart is already without lamellae. Despite the fact that this design is quite simple, such products effectively perform their function, maintaining an optimal microclimate in the rooms. Installation of the grill will prevent the appearance of mold, mildew and high humidity.

Rectangular door grilles

Rectangular grilles are installed on kitchen doors, bathrooms and toilets. This allows the air flow to circulate properly inside the rooms. In addition, such products are also used for installation in window sills, so that warm air masses emanating from heating radiators are evenly distributed throughout the room.

These structures are made of high quality and durable plastic. Some models are equipped with insect screens or a movable airflow damper. Also, if desired, you can install a grill with a built-in fan - in this case, the ventilation effect will be the best. Today, there are various color and design options on sale, so for each door you can choose a grille that matches the color and style.

Round grates

The design of round grilles is practically no different from rectangular ones. Such products are also equipped with a mosquito net, can have movable dampers or a built-in fan. The size of round structures, as a rule, does not exceed 15-20 cm in diameter, and for their installation, round holes are made in the door in size. Products up to 10 cm in diameter are installed at the bottom of the door several pieces in a row. Larger grilles can be placed on the sides of the bottom or top of the door. In the presence of moisture and mold inside furniture cabinets, such grilles are installed on the cabinet doors. In this case, glue and mounting ribs are used for installation.

Mounting

If there is no proper air circulation in the office production room, as well as in a private bathroom, kitchen or bathroom, ventilation grilles must be installed on the door. You can do this yourself or ask for help from specialists who will perform the following steps:

  1. The building code will determine the optimal size of the grille required for your door. The size depends on the internal dimensions of the room and its purpose.
  2. They will make a hole in the door of the required size and install the grill.

For self-installation, you will need the following tools:

  • Ruler and pencil;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or glue.

Work order:

  1. First, using a ruler, you need to take off the dimensions of the purchased grilles (as a rule, there are always two of them in the kit).
  2. Next, on the door, you need to mark the places where the grilles will be located. In this case, the holes should be approximately 1-2 mm larger than the length and width.
  3. Then, four round holes are made at the corners of the marking with a large drill.
  4. Insert the jigsaw blade into one of the holes and carefully cut out a rectangle of the appropriate size along the markings. You need to cut carefully so that the material does not break off. Most room doors are filled with paper honeycomb inside. It should be borne in mind that the jigsaw is suitable for doors made of wood or wood processing materials. For other materials, appropriate tools are used.
  5. Now attach the grates to the two sides of the hole made. If they enter too tightly, then enlarge the hole by sharpening with a file or a rasp.
  6. If the instructions for use of the product indicate that the grille is attached with glue, then they will be attached using construction glue. Before glue is applied to the surface of the door, it must be treated with a cleaning agent to remove dirt and grease. Otherwise, the grill may come off after a while. Most models for doors are fixed with self-tapping screws.

Ventilation is needed in almost any room, especially in those rooms, the high humidity of which can lead to mold and destruction of the wall surface. While a well-ventilated bathroom will not only provide a longer life for the finish and reduce the chances of mold growth, it will also improve air quality. After all, it is the lack of oxygen and the excess of carbon dioxide in enclosed spaces that make staying in them not so comfortable. A properly installed ventilation grill in the bathroom door will eliminate several problems at once.

The need for a door ventilation device in the bathroom

The importance of ventilation in bathroom walls has been noted by builders for a long time. However, not all of them provided for door ventilation in such a room. It was provided by the presence of:

  • cracks between the canvas and the jamb;
  • irregularities in the structure;
  • porous structure of wood (the main material for door leaves).

Thanks to modern technology, doors can be produced without defects. This means that you have to make holes in the canvas yourself or choose the already built-in ventilation in the bathroom door. Installing a door leaf that does not provide fresh air can significantly worsen the conditions in the room. While taking a bath or performing other hygiene procedures, a person begins to feel uncomfortable. Small savings in ventilation can lead to serious problems.

Bathroom door ventilation options

There are many options for ventilated bathroom doors. Their features depend primarily on the material of the door leaf:

  • frosted glass. It will not be possible to install a lattice on such a door on your own, and there are practically no options with ready-made ones. You can provide ventilation here only on your own, namely, drill a hole;
  • plastic. The most profitable option for the price, in which it is quite easy to install the grilles (even on your own and without special skills);
  • wood. This material is the worst resistant to high humidity, but it is still great for creating door ventilation. Due to the good workability of wood, it is relatively easy to cut a grill into such a door.

A bathroom door made of chipboard or MDF with a ventilation grill on its surface is one of the most profitable options (see which bathroom door is better to choose here). Its cost is lower compared to wood and glass structures. Moreover, the aesthetic characteristics of such a material are better than those of plastic.

Before cutting a ventilation hole for a bathroom door, you need to mark its surface in accordance with the dimensions of the grill. In this case, add 1–2 mm to the length and width of the structure to be installed.

One of the most popular options is the combination door (see Bathroom sliding doors: advantages and disadvantages, how to install). That is, a structure made of two materials at once. For example, plastic and glass or wood and glass inserts. Ventilation is arranged in a wooden or plastic part of the door.

There are only two options for installing ventilation grilles. The first method is to install the grille in a cut-to-size rectangular hole. The second is the installation of small round through rings at the bottom of the door. Such grilles and nets must match the color scheme of the main part of the door leaf. A large selection of suitable elements simplifies this selection. The grilles almost merging with the structure are invisible against the general background. They are made from the same material as the door itself or from painted plastic and metal.

The round air vent in the bathroom door is an additional option most often chosen for installed structures. In addition, this method will be more profitable and will require the installation of not a rectangular lattice, but several plastic rings. They are sometimes left empty to improve ventilation. However, most often they are protected with a special mesh - to increase the sound-absorbing properties and improve the aesthetic characteristics of the door.

In addition to the grilles and openings (or instead of them), simpler ventilation can be provided (see Natural and forced ventilation in the bathroom: which one to choose and how to install?). It is a small (5-10 mm thick) gap under the bathroom door. Although the efficiency of this option is less than that of the others, and the gap itself is left by the owners of the apartment infrequently for fear of flooding the house.

Self-made ventilation in the bathroom door

Despite the wide range of options for doors with ventilation grilles and openings, finding the right one for a particular apartment and environment is not easy. It will be much easier:

  • buy a suitable canvas, matching it to the design of the bathroom and, possibly, also the corridor;
  • choose a ventilation grill option;
  • install ventilation on your own or contact a specialist.

Cutting the hole and installing the grates (rings) is a relatively straightforward process, although special tools may be needed. The most difficult thing to do such work is for glass doors, they should be entrusted to a professional. Plastic and wood structures are much easier to drill and saw. Lattice parts are installed in the cut-out hole on both sides, fixing them using the method specified by the manufacturer. Some of the grilles are glued, the rest are mounted on self-tapping screws. For rings with round holes, only one option is provided - glue.

The resulting door as a result of this installation is usually no less effective for creating additional air exchange in the bathroom than a ready-made structure. At the same time, it looks more profitable due to the selection and installation of the grate after the purchase of the canvas. And for the price, including work and materials, it costs about the same as a door with already built-in ventilation.

Ventilation is one of the ways to maintain an optimal indoor microclimate. There are many tools available to improve air movement. All use ventilation grilles installed as guides.

Basic concepts

Indoor air movement is very often restricted by closed doors. This prevents both temperature and humidity from being distributed evenly. One of the solutions to this problem is the use of ventilation grilles.

This type of door structure belongs to overflow ventilation devices. They consist of several structural elements:

  • Lattice... This part is made in the form of a strong frame, between which the stripes are located at a certain angle. This allows air to move unhindered.
  • Decorative overlay. The product is a small structure that repeats the previous element in shape. Install it on the other side of the door to hide the places where the hole was cut.

Transfer grilles can be installed in almost any door, but often they are found only in a few rooms:

  • Kitchen. This is important if the hood is constantly running here. It removes dirty and hot air, and a fresh stream enters the room just through the holes in the door.
  • Bathroom and toilet. In such places, ventilation systems are used very often. This is especially important for the bathroom, where a large amount of moisture collects. And in order to exclude the formation of mold, surfaces should be thoroughly and constantly dried.
  • Interior doors. This approach is relatively rare. These structures are used in large offices where it is necessary to create comfortable conditions for workers. Such doors can also be seen in large archives or libraries, where it is necessary to maintain an optimal mode for storing paper.

Materials (edit)

Air door systems can be found in almost any hardware store today. They are made from several basic materials:

  • Plastic. The most common products, as the substance perfectly resists moisture. Plastic does not rot or crack, and its service life is practically unlimited.
  • Metal. Overflow systems made of this material are quite rare, since the products are very poorly resistant to water. Only stainless steel grates are the optimal solution.
  • Wood. It is very difficult to find structures of this type on the market, almost all such models are made to order. Wooden devices are perfect for interior doors, but it is recommended to install them in bathrooms.

For protection, all types of grilles can be coated with special protective paints.

Dimensions (edit)

Door ventilation systems are often installed at the bottom of the curtain. The number of such elements in most cases is no more than two.

The dimensions of the ventilation grilles vary over a relatively wide range:

  • Width - from 10 to 60 cm;
  • Height - from 10 to 25 cm.

As for the environment of use, the optimal dimensions of structures for bathrooms are considered to be 60 cm wide. If you plan to install gratings in interior doors, then it is better to buy systems with slightly larger parameters.

The thickness of the products in most cases is standard and varies from 35 to 40 mm. If the door leaf is non-standard, then this should be taken into account when choosing such structures.

If you need a custom-sized design, then you will have to order it individually, which will affect its cost.

Views

Overflow ventilation modifications for doors are practically no different from other models. Such lattices are classified only by the shape of the frame. Depending on this parameter, there are:

  • Rectangular. This type of device is installed in the door to the kitchen or bathroom. Some models can be fitted with mosquito nets to prevent the migration of flies and other insects.
  • Round. Systems of this type are technically no different from their rectangular counterparts. There are products of small diameter on the market, which allows mounting up to 4-5 pieces in one door.

Criterias of choice

The installed grill does not always allow achieving high-quality air flow. When choosing such solutions, one should pay attention not only to the material, but also to the useful sectional area. This characteristic indicates how much air the system can pass. Experts recommend using grilles for one door, in which the "living" area is 30-40 square meters. cm.

A lattice with dimensions of 30 * 25 cm is perfect for this. It is important to understand that the "live" area is about 40% lower than this parameter calculated along the perimeter of the structure.

Mounting

The process of installing a ventilation grill in a door can be broken down into several sequential steps:

  1. The exact measurements should be taken from the purchased product.... It is important to measure the side that will fit into the hole.
  2. On the door, a place is chosen where the products will be located. Do not mount the devices too close to the ends of the web, as you can simply damage it. When you have decided, you should mark the location of the grids. Please note that the opening in the door must be approximately 2 mm larger than the perimeter of the product.
  3. A hole should be cut. To do this, holes are initially drilled in each of the corners with a large drill. Then, using a jigsaw, a hole is cut sequentially. If the doors are made of plastic or metal, then a special cutting tool should be used.
  4. The process ends with the fastening of the gratings. Initially, they are inserted into the holes and tried on. It expands if necessary. The fixation of the device is carried out using glue or other systems provided by the manufacturer. Many structures can be fastened using small self-tapping screws, therefore, only decorative fasteners are used for such purposes.

Ventilation grilles for doors are a universal solution that allows you to create a comfortable indoor climate and optimal living conditions for each tenant of the apartment.

Also in the video below you can see a quick overview of the adjustable door grill.

A bathroom is a place where humid air is almost constantly present. And it’s not safe at all. Not finding a way out, moisture settles on the walls, ceiling, interior items and becomes the cause of the formation of mold and mildew that are dangerous to humans. Properly installed ventilation helps to fight excess moisture. There are various ventilation equipment. Do not think that the system must necessarily be complex and multicomponent. In some cases, even ordinary ventilation in the bathroom door will help improve the situation. Consider the simplest ways to remove humid air from the bathroom.

The organization of forced exhaust ventilation is justified only if the bathroom has an area of more than 15 sq. m. A necessary element of the system is a ducted centrifugal fan, which is installed in the ventilation shaft. Such devices work almost silently and are easy to install. Even a home master can do it. Previously, of course, after carefully reading the instructions.

Duct fan is installed inside the ventilation shaft

Before installation, make sure that the ventilation duct is clean and functional. The fan must be fixed at a certain depth of the duct in a strictly vertical position. After this is done, you can start connecting the device to the power supply system. It must be remembered that this operation is carried out only after the apartment is de-energized. A power cable is laid to the fan. The switch is mounted in the most convenient place. Then a check is carried out, if everything is in order - the device is ready for operation.

Mounting the strap-on fan

It is much easier to remove humid air in small bathrooms. To do this, it is enough to install a conventional overhead fan. The main thing is to correctly determine the required power of the device, otherwise all efforts may be useless. For rough calculations, experts recommend using the following formula: the area of the room must be multiplied by 6 if the room will be regularly used by less than 3 people, or by 8, if there are more than 3 residents in the house. The resulting value will be the required power of the equipment.

Installation of the device is carried out with the electricity turned off. Work begins by fixing the base box. Then, using a two-core cable with a diameter of about 0.2 mm, the contact terminals are connected to the network. After that, you can install the device case. Usually it is equipped with special latches, so additional fasteners are not required. At the end of the work, the operability of the installed equipment is checked. Overhead fans differ in design, but they are installed according to the described scheme.

Surface-mounted fan - a practical solution for small bathrooms

Arrangement of ventilation openings in the door

A door with ventilation holes can be part of the ventilation system in the bathroom or act as the only device for removing humid air. Most often, holes are made in the lower part of the door leaf. Special rings are used to decorate them. Elements can be made of wood, metal or plastic. The choice of material depends on the appearance of the door. The parts are installed as follows:

  • The markup is being carried out. The ring is applied to the place where it will be installed and outlined with a pencil or marker. It should be borne in mind that usually three ventilation rings are installed on one door leaf.
  • Holes are made. Using a drill, three through slots are drilled on the plane.
  • Hole machining is in progress. Their inner part should be smooth, without the presence of even small irregularities. Sanding of the walls is carried out with sandpaper. At the end of the work, varnish is applied to the leveled surface. It will help the door to avoid deformation and give the details an aesthetic look.

Ventilated bathroom doors

  • Ventilation rings are installed. A screwdriver is usually used to facilitate the process.

Note: There are several types of rings installed in doors. Along with the simplest parts on sale, you can find elements with a protective insect mesh and noise-absorbing elements, covered with a special material that does not allow sound to pass through.

One of the design options for the ventilation grill in the door

The ventilation holes can be made not only in the form of rings, but also in the form of a special lattice. The design has some advantages over rings: the design of such devices is more interesting, and, in addition, the air passes through the grate along a curved path, therefore, there is no need to fear drafts in the room. The installation of the grille is carried out in the same way as the installation of the rings. A small nuance: upon completion of the installation, the structure must be in a strictly vertical position and not stagger.

Bathroom ventilation is not a luxury, but a necessity. You can equip the system in various ways. The simplest and most accessible of them are described above. Subject to the instructions and correct installation, the humid air removal system will work smoothly. If there is no experience of such work or there is no desire to engage in them, the specialists of construction companies will perform the installation of the necessary equipment with high quality.
