Making pleated curtains with your own hands. How to make blinds with your own hands from paper, wallpaper, fabric, wood. Blinds care

Window curtains are a good way to complete the interior, giving it more coziness. Sewing pleated curtains with your own hands is not difficult. The draperies of such curtains are made of fabric or paper, and can be placed both horizontally and vertically. When sewing the fabric, its color and texture, you can choose from a variety of options. DIY paper pleats are a good solution for those who often change the interior or settle down for a short time. A little time is spent on their manufacture.

Pleated curtains can be made of thick paper, fabric or wallpaper.

Well-chosen curtains can completely change the interior and update it. Therefore, before resorting to the services of designers, you can try to do with small changes that can significantly improve the appearance of the room.

These curtains resemble blinds, but are made of pleated fabric or paper. Such a structure is held with the help of a special system of cords and is assembled like an accordion in a pile or twisted around the bar to the desired height. It is not difficult to make such curtains with your own hands, and they will be affordable.

Pleated paper blinds: necessary materials and tools

Louver paper, which can now be found more and more often, has a number of advantages. Drawings on paper can be varied, the color palette is richer than that of fabrics. The paper can be folded into any shape (both horizontal and vertical). This is a salvation for those who do not know how to sew at all or do not have a sewing machine at hand. Horizontal folds on blinds are now much more popular than vertical folds. Such curtains visually expand the room, and this is what is often sorely lacking in modern dwellings.

Paper, especially thick and good quality paper, is less susceptible to fading than some fabrics and collects less dust. Paper, like fabric, has different weights. Thus, the degree of illumination can be adjusted for different rooms. There are paper of different price categories, and for a short time you can use the most inexpensive option. These curtains are available to everyone, since wallpaper can be used for their manufacture, a roll of which is usually more than enough for the windows of a standard apartment. In order to make your own pleated blinds, you will need:

  • paper;
  • wooden planks;
  • glue;
  • strong thread or thin cord;
  • awl.

Making paper curtains

It is most convenient to make such blinds using step-by-step instructions. For each window, you will need 2 wooden planks that match its width. If the planks are round, no further action is required. If they have a square or rectangular cross-section, the paper blank needs to be folded several times and then ironed with an iron, forming folds. The upper part is glued to the block with strong glue, you can also use small nails. It is especially good to use carnations if a roll of vinyl wallpaper will be used as pleated blinds.

For better drying, the glue can be left under the press for a while, you can use double-sided tape to glue the blinds. But such a connection is short-lived, since under the influence of the sun, the scotch tape quickly loses its properties, and it also tends to stain paper, which is especially noticeable on white blinds.

Holes are made along the edge of the pleated curtain with an awl. A thread (or cord) stretched through them is fixed on the upper bar. On very wide blinds, you can stretch threads every 0.5 m, on narrow blinds - a little more often. To fasten the pleated blinds to be durable and of high quality, holes are made in wooden planks, from above the threads are fixed with knots and glued.

The height of the window and the extended blinds must be carefully calculated, after which the paper must be cut to the desired length.

Then the bottom edge is also glued to the bar, and the ends of the threads are fixed on it. The structure should dry out and sag a little, if it is made of wallpaper. Pleated paper curtains are ready.

Blinds are a very convenient and practical thing. They protect the room well from sunlight and prying eyes, take up little space compared to curtains, and are convenient to use. Making blinds with your own hands from fabric is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Curtains and blinds

Empty windows, especially in the dark, from the side of the room look somehow uncomfortable and somewhat frightening. And to get rid of this impression, to protect the premises and the people there from prying eyes, the windows are hidden behind all sorts of special devices - and blinds. By the way, the word "curtains" comes from the French store, which means "blind". But the word "blinds" is a derivative of the French jalousie, which, surprisingly, means "jealousy" in translation. Maybe you mean that you know less - sleep more peacefully? Probably it was. But one thing is clear that to this day blinds - special devices on the windows that cover them in whole or in part - are in great demand.

Blinds are different

Decorating the interior of a room is a matter of taste for the owner or hostess. You can, of course, hire a designer who will plan everything as he sees fit, although he will consult with the customer. But to develop the interior of your own home on your own, with your mind, imagination, as well as create some important and beautiful things with your own hands - informative, interesting, entertaining, practical and economical. You can make, for example, do-it-yourself blinds from fabric, wooden slats, plastic slats. The use of metal profiles and even paper is allowed. For any needlewoman, the most convenient and practical option is to make do-it-yourself blinds on the windows from fabric.

Such window protectors are vertical, horizontal and roll-up. However, roller blinds are most often called curtains, not blinds, although the essence remains the same. An interesting option for horizontally located protection and decoration for windows is Roman blinds.

Fabric, accessories, tool

Before making your own blinds from fabric, the home craftsman will prepare everything you need to work and get a high-quality result, so as not to be distracted by the search for what you need in the creative process. For fabric curtains, whatever they are, you will need:

  • Fabric in the following quantity: + width for the hem + width for the necessary fittings to be sewn in (if it is needed for the design of the blinds) + decorative length, for example, for folds.
  • Sewing threads for blinds.
  • Sturdy cord for fitting the rotary device. Depending on the design of the blinds, the cord may require 3-4 lengths compared to the length of the fabric, so it is better to buy a cord with a margin.
  • Tools - pliers, thick needle.
  • Accessories - rings, hangers, slat runners.
  • Liquid Nails.
  • Double-sided and single-sided tape.
  • Long ruler.
  • Pencil.

All this is necessary for the manufacture of protection and decoration for windows. For a specific model, you will need one or another fittings and fasteners. It is convenient to use special blinds kits sold in specialized stores.

How simple it is!

The easiest way to make do-it-yourself blinds from fabric is to sew a Roman shade. Although this version of the light-protective structure can be different - with or without lamellas, with different types along the window opening - inside, outside or along the frame. But it is this variation of making blinds with your own hands from fabric step by step that will help even those who have never done anything like this in their life.

Calculation of fabric for Roman blinds

If you approach the preliminary stage of any work correctly - the calculation of the material, the construction of the structure, the careful planning of all stages, then the result will only please. The same applies to making fabric blinds with your own hands.

The master class should begin by calculating the required amount of fabric. It is done simply - the estimated height and width of the blinds + 2 centimeters each for hemming the edges on the right and left, as well as on top. You need to add 10 centimeters to the bottom, since it is necessary to insert a weighting bar into the lower gate. You can also provide a larger valve on top if it is supposed to make the curtain a single whole together with the cornice. You will also need a purl. It is calculated as follows: the height and width of the light protection + 2 centimeters per hem on all sides. If knitting needles are supposed to be sewn into each fold as a weighting agent, then the length of the wrong side should be increased as follows: the number of folds should be multiplied by the double thickness of the knitting needle plus a centimeter by a free fit.

Beauty in the folds

Blinds with vertical folds will look very impressive if the number of folds is exactly what you need - no more, no less. Craftsmen who are engaged in the manufacture of such window decorative draperies are advised to opt for the number of folds from 5 to 9. If you take fewer folds, the blinds will be too plain, and more folds will make the window too conspicuous. Since the folds should be at the same distance from one another, then the calculation is made by simple division - the height of the opening is divided by the selected number of folds. The result is the height of one fold.

This calculation option is most suitable if the folds will be rigidly attached to the plastic lamellas. If this option is chosen, old horizontal blinds can be used. If the folds are supposed to be soft, then the old blinds are not needed, and the drapery of the lifted canvas is formed freely. If you look at the fabric blinds made with your own hands, the photos of which are presented below, you can understand how folds are formed on such curtains.

Construction process

You can sew blinds with your own hands from fabric by starting step-by-step work. First, you should measure the area of the window on which the blinds will be placed. For example, if the blinds are to protrude along the walls, then it is necessary to provide for the width of such protrusions on both sides of the window opening. Having measured the required amount of facial tissue, sweep the gates on the right and left sides, from above and a wide turn from below, in which the weighting bar will fit. It is best made from a wooden block - it is light enough not to damage the entire structure, including the cornice.

Now, on the wrong side, baste the hem on all sides in the same way. Mark the same distance for the folds.

  • If you need to insert knitting needles, then the pockets for them should be sewn on a typewriter or manually sewn.
  • If lamellas from old horizontal ones are used, then they are carefully glued along the markings. By the way, in this way you can get a full-fledged structure by removing unnecessary slats from the old blinds, pushing the remaining ones to the required distance, while maintaining the guide cords of the entire structure. The lamellas are glued neatly, without affecting the places where the cords pass, for their free movement.

Lifting mechanism

Why are blinds interesting as a means of protecting windows? By my own method of work. Indeed, when unfolded, they completely or partially cover the view, and when folded they take up very little space. This effect is obtained due to the lifting or swiveling (if we are talking about a vertical structure) mechanism. It seems that this is something complicated, but in fact, all ingenious, as always, is simple. Two or three cords are freely passed through special rings evenly spaced on the panel. At the top, they also pass through the rings fixed on the cornice, and are connected into a single cord, equipped with a suspension.

  • If you sew blinds from fabric with your own hands from start to finish, only from scrap materials, then the mechanism for lifting the folds will be elementary and will require an additional locking device in the form of hooks next to the blinds - on the wall, window opening, on the window frame. For these hooks, you will need to hook a cord with a suspension so that the blinds do not open.
  • If old blinds or a special purchased mechanism are used, then nothing additional is necessary to equip, since all the locking elements are already inside the eaves.

Final assembly

So, two panels are ready. If you have experience with sewing on a typewriter, then you can immediately insert the knitting needles and sew the panels with a seam along the very edge. You can connect the front and back parts, leaving room for the knitting needles, then unscrew the curtain, iron it well and only then insert the knitting needles and the weight bar. In this case, the holes for all the parts can be carefully sewn up by hand.

  • Then, according to the marking, the rings are manually sewn under the cords, capturing both the front and back panels.
  • Now you can pass the cords through the rings, carefully securing them to the lower rings.
  • Screw special threaded rings into the wooden cornice and pass the cords through them, gradually passing from one to the other.
  • If it was provided, then hide this block with a canvas using a Velcro tape. If this option was missed, then the curtain canvas along the edge is attached to the bar using a construction stapler.
  • Attach all two or three cords with a bead weight at some distance.
  • fix.

Blinds care

DIY fabric blinds are comfortable in their practicality. Especially if they have Velcro tape (Velcro tape) in the form of fasteners on the cornice. They can be easily removed and, without removing the knitting needles and weighting materials, simply wiped off the dust with your hands, when suspended, such blinds will straighten, and with the help of a steamer they can be easily brought into perfect condition directly on the weight without damaging the needles and the weighting bar.

The only point: if the blinds are sewn from colored cotton or linen fabric, which is prone to shrinkage, then the fabric before work is best washed in hot water to check for shedding and give it the opportunity to "shrink". Good luck!

Homemade blinds for the window are not difficult, it requires only a little perseverance, accuracy and patience. A little of your efforts and creativity - and new and beautiful blinds will flaunt on your windows.

Summer heat forces even the most resistant to high temperatures people to close themselves from the merciless sun rays, especially in those cases when the apartment windows face south. There is not always a financial opportunity to purchase high-quality blinds for windows, and sometimes there is simply no desire to wait until they are made to a certain size. Therefore, the question arises of how to make blinds from wallpaper, the surplus of which, as a rule, remains after repair and gathers dust in the pantry. In addition, thick wallpaper paper can not only protect the room from overheating, and the curtains from burning out, but will also organically fit into the overall interior, especially if you use the same material that is used to paste over the walls of the room.

This way of protecting yourself from the sun will save not only a decent amount, but also time, as it will save you from repeated trips to the workshop.

In addition, you can see that neatly made pleated blinds will not look disharmonious or "beggarly" at all - today some designers deliberately opt for this option of protecting windows from the sun's rays, because such curtains are quite capable of becoming a real decoration of the room.

It is also very important that such paper curtains can be made - within the power of any homeowner, even those who have never been involved in needlework before. Therefore, if you have everything you need to make pleated blinds at hand, you can safely get down to business.

Manufacturing of pleated blinds

The first option and several of its varieties

Before starting work, it is imperative to clear the table of all that is superfluous, since you will need a lot of space on which you can freely spread a sheet of wallpaper with a length of at least 1500 mm. After that, you can proceed to the preparation of all the necessary tools, which, however, can certainly be found in any home.

Illustration
So, for the manufacture of blinds you will need:
- canvas, preferably paper wallpaper;
- scissors;
- meter ruler and pencil;
- a beautiful thin cord, approximately 1.5 ÷ 2 mm thick;
- awl;
- Double-sided tape,
- stationery knife.
In addition, you may need a tape to decorate or support the curtain in a folded form, depending on the selected model of pleated blinds.
Instead of a retainer, it is quite possible to use a regular clothespin that matches the color of the wallpaper, or a hair clip.
The latch is necessary to secure the blinds in the desired position.
For this purpose, an accessory item of clothing is used, which can most often be found on the laces of the hoods of sweatshirts or jackets.
A rope is threaded into it, it is clamped inside the retainer, and the curtain is securely held at the selected height.
The very first step is to measure a window or just a double-glazed window, depending on how wide the curtain is planned to be made.
Let's say the window height is 1350 mm, about a quarter is added to this value, that is, in this case - another 350 mm, which are necessary for the formation of folds.
As a result, a length of 1700 mm is obtained - this length will require a wallpaper cloth.
Further, the wallpaper is spread on the table, the required size of the canvas is measured.
To prevent the roll from curling up, it is recommended to put a load on it at the edges.
After marking the required length, it is imperative to draw in a square a line perpendicular to the edges along which the wallpaper is cut.
Then, the sheet of wallpaper intended for blinds must be marked for the size of the corrugation.
Usually the fold width is 20 ÷ 30 mm.
Naturally, the risks along the edges of the canvas should correspond to each other.
According to the marking points made, the canvas must be drawn using a ruler.
Along the indicated lines, it will be easier to bend the canvas into an "accordion".
The first fold is best folded using the edge of the ruler.
It is laid along the drawn line, the edge of the canvas is folded and the fold of the fold is indicated, so the bend will turn out to be even and clear.
If the wallpaper is too dense, then along the drawn line, attaching a ruler, draw with folded scissors or the blunt side of a table knife blade, with slight pressure.
Then, to obtain a clear line, bending the first fold, draw along it with the side of a pencil or pen (of course, so that there is no trace left - the pencil must be clean).
Further, focusing on the markings and the first fold, the fold is bent in the opposite direction, according to the "accordion" principle.
Such manipulations are carried out until the entire canvas is folded into an even pile.
The resulting "accordion" is pressed from above with a ruler, which will additionally help to temporarily fix the "pleated" shape in this position.
After that, depending on the selected model of blinds, the middle of the width of the curtain is determined, or 150 mm retreat from the edges to pierce the holes.
In the first case, one cord will be passed through the middle of the future curtain, in the second model, two cords are passed through the canvas closer to the edges of the blinds.
At the designated points, using an awl, one hole is pierced in the middle of the folded curtain, or two - closer to the edges.
The resulting punctures must be slightly widened by gently twisting the awl in them.
This is required in order to pass the ropes through them, which should move freely inside the holes made.
The next step, with the help of a "gypsy" needle or crochet hook, pulls a rope through the holes, the edges of which must be melted in advance, and its lower side must be fixed in the latch.
Moreover, below the retainer, you need to leave a cord with a length of about 400 ÷ 500 mm - this will be a margin for stretching the curtain in length.
Later, its excess can be cut off, and the end can also be melted.
When the rope is stretched through the entire "accordion", it should be fixed with tape on the upper fold of the curtain.
Then, on the same part of the blinds, a strip of double-sided tape is glued.
The result should be the following design.
Both the first and second versions of the curtains can be left rectangular, tied, for example, from below with ribbons.
Blinds with one cord passed in the middle can be folded like a fan by pulling it up a bit and fixing it with a latch.
After the "fan" is formed, its edges are glued together with double-sided tape or, if possible, with silicone using a special gun.
But in this case, it will not be possible to separate the glued edges in the future.
Therefore, instead of glue, you can use a small clothespin or hair clip for fastening, hooking it in the middle of the width of the blinds, from the side that will be turned towards the window glass.
In this case, such a fixation of the "fan" will be invisible from the room, and at any time there is a possibility of the bottom of the blinds, straightening, to make it even.
If a fan-shaped bottom of the curtain is chosen, then its folds need to be nicely and carefully straightened so that the rays of the folds converge at one point in the center.
The finished blinds are fixed to the upper part of the window frame using a strip of double-sided tape previously glued to them, from which the protective film is removed before fixing.

There are several more options for blinds that you can also make yourself using wallpaper canvases.

  • This is a simpler version of pleated blinds, for which you don't even need to prepare and thread cords through the canvas. For such a curtain, you will need a wallpaper sheet, which is folded like an accordion in the same way as described in the table above. The blinds are also fixed on the frame with the help of double-sided tape, and their lower side in the middle is pulled up and fixed with a regular clothespin or hairpin, forming a beautiful fan. If desired, foil can be glued onto the wallpaper, from the side facing the street, which will reflect ultraviolet rays, preventing them from heating the room.

  • If the apartment has arched windows, then the wallpaper blinds can become a real decoration for them, as they are fixed along the arch in the form of an elegant fan, collecting one edge of the wallpaper bent into an "accordion".

To do this, on the wallpaper, pre-folded "accordion", along one edge, ordinary adhesive tape 15 mm wide is glued.

Then, the "accordion" is collected in a pile and pierced with an awl through and through from the side where the tape is fixed. Through the resulting hole, with the help of a gypsy needle, a cord is pulled, which will pull off the lower edge of the fan, and the scotch tape will prevent the paper from breaking. The cord is tied in a knot on the side that will be turned towards the glass. The blinds made in this way will not only protect the room from the sun, but also give the room a special charm, emphasizing the shape of the arch.

Blinds prices

  • If the arched part of the window is divided by a vertical upright frame, then two half-fans are made for each half of it according to the above-described principle. They are attached to each window sash separately, making up a whole semicircle. This method of fixing curtains to an arched window looks no less interesting than the previous version.
  • If there is a need to close only the upper part of the window, for example, to block the flow of sunlight to a certain area of the room (crib, desk, etc.), then you can use wallpaper folded in the form of a fan and attached to one of the frame corners. This option looks quite original, both from inside the apartment and from the street.

The second option - the task becomes somewhat more complicated

Making the next model of curtains from paper, including wallpaper, will take much longer than a regular pleated. However, they also look more respectable, and also protect the room from the heat much more reliably, since they consist of two layers, between which an air gap is created.

  • For the manufacture of such blinds, the wallpaper must be marked and cut into strips approximately 100 mm wide.
  • The lengths of the strips are twisted into a tube, and then their edges are glued with an overlap of 10 mm. There should be enough such tubes to cover the entire height of the window.
  • The glue should dry well, and then each tube is compressed into a flat lamella, so that clear side edges are outlined, and the place of its gluing is in the middle of the upper side.
  • The next operation is the middle line of each folded tube, a strip of 10 ÷ 12 mm is coated with glue, and all the elements are glued together along the length. The glue should not flow, so dry glue is best suited - otherwise the whole effect of lightness of such a structure will be smeared.
  • All glued and stacked tubes should dry well.
  • Then, without expanding the resulting structure, you need to retreat 150 mm from its edges. In these places, with the help of an awl, holes are pierced and expanded into which the cords are passed. They should not be visible from the outside, as they will pass inside the straightened tubes. The lower ends of the ropes are passed through the clips to help hold the curtain in different positions. Thanks to the air spaces formed in the tubes, the blinds can be completely stacked or raised to the desired height.
  • You can hang these blinds using two plastic rings tied to the top edges of the rope. They are hung on hooks screwed into the upper slope of the window opening. In the case of plastic windows and - you can do with double-sided tape, since such blinds are not at all heavy.

Blinds from newspapers

This type of blinds can be made from any paper, including wallpaper, but nevertheless, old newspapers are most often used to make such a variety - due to the fact that they are printed on thin, easily curled and shape-retaining paper.

For work, you will need a lot of newspapers, a beautiful thin cord, two plastic rings, screws, nails or hooks, depending on which plane the blinds will be fixed on.

To make curtains of this type, 900 × 400 mm in size, you will need to wind 170 ÷ 200 newspaper tubes 400 mm long. If they turn out to be a little longer, then they can be trimmed at the end of the work. Based on this proportion, you can calculate the number and for your size of the window opening.

IllustrationBrief description of the performed operation
To make it easier to carry out the preparatory stage of work - the preparation of the tubes, you will need a knitting needle or another fairly thin metal rod.
Its diameter will depend on how large it is planned to make these elements of the blinds.
Having screwed the newspaper onto a rod, its edge is fixed with dry glue or PVA. The glue must dry well.
Having prepared the required number of tubes, they must be painted with acrylic paint, moreover, you can use any colors - as intended by the sketch of future blinds.
It is recommended to take a coloring composition intended for facade work, since it is more waterproof.
Additionally, it is best to add PVA glue to the paint in a ratio of 3: 1.
After the paint has dried, the tubes are laid out in a row and leveled.
Further, you can proceed to the crucial stage - to fasten them together into one "canvas".
This process can be done in two ways:
The first option is to fasten the tubes, intertwining them with a rope, making one or two knots between them, or simply using the “figure eight” method.
It is best to secure the knots with glue so that they do not come loose or loosen.
Work begins from the top of the curtain. The rope is tied on a plastic ring for curtains, its ends should be about one and a half times longer than the length of the blinds, and it is better if they are even slightly larger than they will not be enough.
Then, the two ends of the cord are intertwined, one of which passes from the outside and the other from the back of the tubes.
The second option is suitable for those who own the art of crocheting. Moreover, knowledge of complex patterns in this case is not required at all - you just need to be able to weave a simple chain.
This method of fastening is more reliable, as it holds the tubes firmly next to each other.
In this case, the cord does not spontaneously loosen or stretch.
If the tubes are tied in knots, then in the lower part, the cord is also tied with a knot, which must be additionally fastened with glue for reliability.
In order to hang the blinds on the window frame, you can drive nails into it, screw in self-tapping screws or special hooks.
If the blinds are uneven at the edges, then they must be carefully cut with sharp large scissors so that they do not jam the edges of the tubes.
After that, it is recommended to cover the finished product with acrylic varnish, which will make the tubes more durable and give them a matte sheen.
When finished, the blinds look something like this.
If you need a smaller distance between the tubes, you can tie one instead of two knots, use the figure-eight weaving system or a crocheted chain.
In this photo, you can see how the street is viewed through the tubular blinds.
At the same time, coolness is maintained in the room, and there is an opportunity to freely view the street from the room, and at the same time, nothing will be seen from the outside.
If this type of blinds is painted white, then in the evening the window will look as shown in the photo, that is, the opening will not stand out with a dark spot.

On a cloudy day, if you want to open the window completely, you can use two methods.

  • Firstly, the blinds, as unnecessary, are easy to remove, since they are hung on the window using two rings, but you can do another way.
  • Secondly, it is not difficult to manufacture the simplest "regulator" of the blinds opening height. From the side of the window, cords, 200 ÷ 250 mm long, are tied to plastic rings, and another ring is fixed to their lower end. When the blinds are rolled up, in the form of a roll, the lower ring is put on the same nail or hook on which the blinds are hung. Instead of a cord, you can use one or two satin ribbons, which not only support the curtain, but can also serve as a decorative decoration.

It should be noted that the same blinds can be made not only from newspapers, but also from a flat wooden rod, well-dried reeds or plastic tubes, which are fastened together in exactly the same way.

Decorating old blinds with paper wallpaper

If there are already blinds on the windows, but they have lost their attractive appearance, and I would like to purchase new ones, but there are certain difficulties with finances, then there is still a way out. Look in the "zagashniki" - after one of the repairs, a piece of wallpaper was probably left, and you just have to make a little effort, how the appearance of the windows will be changed.

So, in order to carry out this somewhat creative process, it is necessary to prepare:

  • Wallpaper or pretty decorative paper.
  • Any plastic blinds.
  • PVA brush and glue.
  • Scissors, ruler and pencil.

Having prepared everything you need, you can go to work:

  • First of all, the blinds must be cleaned of dust that can accumulate on the slats during their operation. Sometimes this requires a lot of effort, but such an operation is necessary because the wallpaper will not adhere well to the surface of dirty plastic.
  • The cleaned and dried louver slats need to be measured and counted.
  • Further, the wallpaper is spread on the table and marked with a ruler and a pencil according to the dimensions taken from the lamellas. Then, the canvas is drawn into the required number of strips. In addition, on them it is necessary to note the location of the holes through which the connecting threads on the blinds are passed. It is recommended that all stripes, according to the drawing, be immediately numbered so that there is no inconsistency in the ornament.
  • Then, the wallpaper is cut into marked strips, and in the places where the holes are, cuts are made, or, each of the paper overlays is cut into three parts. They will be glued to the lamellae between the holes for the staple threads.
  • The next step is to carefully stick the wallpaper strips onto the blinds. If the stripes protrude slightly beyond the edges of the lamellas, then after the glue dries, their excess is carefully cut off with a sharp clerical knife. Do not trim the paper until the glue is dry, otherwise the work may be ruined.

  • To make the wallpaper cover less dirty, and the lamellas can be periodically cleaned of dust, they are covered with two or three layers of acrylic varnish. Each subsequent layer is applied after the previous one has completely dried.

It should be noted that you can tidy up the blinds or simply give them a more decorative look by gluing a stained glass film on them, which is now available in the same way as wallpaper, and has a quite affordable price. It is easy to work with this material, moreover, you do not need to purchase additional glue.

If you wanted to buy wooden wallpaper for a long time, but it didn’t work, since they are not cheap, you can paste over ordinary plastic blinds with self-adhesive paper that imitates the texture of wood.

There are situations when, when decorating windows, you want not to spend money on buying new curtains, but to save money and show your imagination, creating them on your own from scrap materials. And what could be easier and simpler than paper crafts? What can you do with your own hands out of paper, which is quite uncomplicated and at the same time necessary in an apartment? A little tip - paper blinds or pleated curtains from wallpaper. In addition, windows and walls during their installation are not subject to mechanical damage, because you do not need to drill, nail or twist anything - the curtain is hung on double-sided tape. And to update the interior, it is enough to spend another couple of hours and create new blinds from the remnants of wallpaper of a different color.

Wallpaper curtain - step by step instructions with a photo

Homemade paper blinds and curtains can be of different types: roller blinds, Roman ones. This master class talks about how to make pleated blinds for plastic or wooden windows with your own hands from the remnants of non-woven wallpaper, using very few tools and materials.

Before starting work, we collect the necessary minimum from the following list. We need:

  1. Wallpaper.
  2. Scissors or utility knife.
  3. Ruler and pencil.
  4. Double-sided tape.
  5. Rope.
  6. Roulette.
  7. Hole punch or awl.

Then, step by step, we perform the steps listed below, which are presented in stages and supplemented with photos for clarity.

Step 1

Using a tape measure, we measure the window frame (if the frame is hinged with a handle, the measurement is made to the base of the handle) or the glass unit itself, on which the produced blinds are planned to be installed.

Measurement of the glass unit along the inner edge of the glazing bead.

Step 2

We unfold the roll on a flat surface, measure the desired length and draw a perpendicular line, along which we cut it. Please note that the length of the cut wallpaper, taking into account the folds on the produced blinds, should be 25-27% more than the height of the measured window.

Example: during the measurement, it turned out 130 cm, therefore, we cut the wallpaper with a length of 162-165 cm

Step 3

We mark the trimmed canvas along the entire length on both sides symmetrical to each other, with risks for future corrugation. As a rule, the width of each strip varies within 3-5 cm, but you can skip this recommendation and make it a little wider. Then we fold the "accordion" along the marked lines as shown in the photographs.

Advice for the lazy: you can not mark the canvas, but simply adjust all subsequent folds to the width of the second fold. The main thing is to make sure that all the folds are the same size, except for the very first one, on which the curtain will be hung. Its width is calculated from the width of the double-sided tape that we use, plus a 1-1.5 cm tolerance.

Step 4

After the "accordion" is assembled, measure out the middle of the width and mark this place along the entire thickness by drawing a line from top to bottom, as shown in the photographs. We draw a line on the side where there is no drawing, from the same seamy side we will make holes with a hole punch. You can also "make holes" with an awl, but with the help of a hole punch, the holes are smoother and more aesthetic. In any case, the distance from the edge to the puncture should be 8-10 mm.

Step 5

We pass a guide rope through the prepared holes.

Step 6

We fasten the rope stretched through all the blinds with double-sided tape to the fold, which is planned as the upper one. To do this, cut off a strip 8-10 cm long from the tape and glue it in the middle of this fold. Then we make a loop on the guide rope and also glue it on top of the scotch tape as shown in the photo.

After that, already on top of the loops on the same fold, we glue a continuous strip of adhesive tape over the width of the wallpaper (we do not remove the upper protective film from it yet) and proceed to the next step.

Step 7

The next step is to create a "fan" at the bottom edge. To do this, again cut off a small strip of tape, less wide than the width of the lower fold strip and about 15-20 cm long.Glue it on one side, considering the hole in it as a separator for the sides of the strip width, as shown in the photo below. Then we remove the protective film from the adhesive tape and bring the ends of the bottom edge together to form a "fan". We press the folds together.

Everything! Original and beautiful blinds from the wallpaper, created with your own hands and this master class, are ready. It remains only to hang them on the window sash.

Step 8

We remove the protective layer from the tape, hang our pleated blind on one of the window sashes, adjust its length to the desired height and fix it. To fix the required length, we make an easily untied knot at the end of the rope.

You can use additional clothing accessories: instead of a knot, use a retainer, and install a tip on the end of the guide.

Blinds from wallpaper made with your own hands and this step-by-step instruction will look great on both wooden and plastic windows and will perfectly fit into the interior of not only a room, but also a glazed loggia or balcony.

Another of the possible pleasant additions to the creation of paper homemade products will be their joint production with the kids. Kids love any kind of paper craft. Create comfortable conditions for joint creativity and make curtains for the children's room together. But keep in mind that such curtains have the shape of an "accordion" and even when they are lowered to the end, folds remain on them. Because of this, any drawing looks broken, and the images of cartoon heroes and princesses so beloved by boys and girls will have to be abandoned. For boys, in this case, pictures with marine motifs or abstract geometric shapes are suitable. For girls - prints with flowers, hearts, jewelry. There are many options, the main thing is to approach the creation of blinds for windows from wallpaper with imagination and inspiration.
