In recent years, filament curtains have been gaining more and more popularity in interior design, but since their price is quite high, many decide to make filament curtains with their own hands.

Filament curtains decorate not only windows, but also other openings in the house. This element will bring coziness and originality to the interior of your home.

With the help of thread curtains, you can not only decorate a room, but also visually correct it, divide the space into different zones, and make a bright accent.

There are design techniques with which you can visually change and update the interior.

For example, to expand the space, it is better to use light colors, horizontal ornaments will make the room visually wider, and vertical ones - higher.

To visually correct room defects, designers often use curtains for this. Properly designed windows can help create just about any effect a room needs.

Now on sale you can see many different thread curtains, but few people know that this element of room decor came to us from the ancient East.

The original name of the cotton curtains - muslin - is also oriental. Used such a curtain in order to shade the room, while leaving the air to circulate freely.

Modern muslin can be made of various materials - most often it is viscose and polyester, but wool, linen and other natural threads are also found.

Examples in the photo.

How to use thread curtains?

Thread curtains are very comfortable to use.

If they hang on a balcony door or doorway, they practically do not interfere with moving from room to room, since they can be pushed aside with a slight gesture of the hand.

Thread curtains collect much less dust than ordinary curtains and are very easy to care for.

You just need to wash them in warm soapy water, drain them and hang them back in place.

It is best to wash them in a laundry bag or pillowcase.

Since the curtains are made of separate threads, you can make any composition out of them for your window using hairpins, ribbons or magnets.

So you can change the decor of the opening an infinite number of times and periodically update the interior. When knitted, the cotton curtains do not tangle, so you can easily tie them into knots.

Such curtains will be a very practical and convenient solution for now fashionable studio apartments. With the help of muslin, you can divide a room into several zones - a bedroom, a recreation area, a kitchen.

Light air curtains instead of walls will not weigh down the space and visually reduce the room.

In the kitchen, with the help of such curtains, you can separate the dining area from the cooking area, in the living room you can separate the work area, and in the bedroom - a crib from the parents' bed.

Another great way to use cotton curtains is to hang it like a canopy over your bed.

Recently, muslin is often found in restaurants and cafes. It is used to separate each table.

Also, gauze is often hung in doorways instead of doors, in the arch between the dining room and the kitchen, niches in rooms are separated.

Examples of the use of muslin in the photo.

Another important advantage of such curtains is that you can make thread curtains with your own hands.

To do this, it is enough to study the master class in detail and purchase all the necessary materials.

How to make curtains from threads with your own hands?

Before starting work, you should first decide on the design of the future product that will decorate the interior of your home.

You should take into account the thickness of the material from which you will make curtains, its structure and texture. Depending on where you will hang the curtain (window or opening), its shape will also depend.

If you wish, you can even create a drawing on the curtains, which will become an extraordinary element of your apartment and give it a zest.

Modern muslin can combine different colors. These can be contrasting combinations or quieter options.

It is possible to combine colors not sequentially, but to make multi-layer curtains, when the second is visible through one layer of thread. The thread layer can be made in different lengths for greater clarity.

You can also combine threads of different texture or density in one product. This is how not just multilayer compositions are made, but muslin lambrequins.

Such lambrequins can have a straight edge or a decorative cutout, for example, asymmetrical.

Filament curtains are often decorated with lambrequins made of ordinary fabric, which also looks very unusual.

When you have decided what kind of curtains you will make, you need to calculate the amount of material to work with. First of all, you need to decide at what distance the threads will be attached.

If you need a thick curtain on the window, then the threads are fastened densely, if it is a curtain on the opening, then it is better in this case to do it less often.

If you are using thin threads, the distance between them will be approximately 2 to 5 mm. The length of the eaves must be divided by the distance between the threads and multiplied by the length of the product to the floor.

Now we convert centimeters to meters and get the required number of skeins. It is better to count the threads with a margin, since then they can simply be cut along the bottom to the desired length.

In the photo there is a master class on the manufacture of cotton curtains.

Depending on which master class you have chosen, the attachment of the curtain may be different. The first option for attaching the curtain is to a reinforcing tape.

To do this, the threads of the required length are attached to the base and intertwined with loops.

Another master class suggests attaching threads to rings, which are then simply put on the cornice.

The next master class suggests doing this: for fastening, a wooden plank of the required length is taken with holes made into which the threads are inserted and fixed.

You can do it differently: insert the threads not into the holes, but simply wind them around the plank, as in the macrame technique.

Some handicraftsmen suggest attaching the threads to adhesive tape, which is then glued to the finishing fabric and strengthened with machine stitching.

To make filament curtains for an arched opening, you can use special arched corners that are sold in hardware stores.

Whatever option you choose for sewing curtains-threads with your own hands, the main thing is that your product is made accurately.

When all the threads are strung and the curtain is ready, you can immediately hang the finished product on the opening, or you can decorate it as you wish.

The most common materials for decoration are beads, sequins, sequins, flowers, and many other materials, depending on the author's imagination, for example, acorns, chestnuts or bones.

To attach an element, you need to string it on a thread and tie a knot so that the bead does not fall off.

You can also use special metal clips, which are sold at jewelry supply stores, to secure the decor.

Whatever decorates your curtain - lambrequins, beautiful beads or shiny sequins, a handmade product will become a real highlight of your interior and will not go unnoticed.

Curtains-threads in the interior were once a great success, and then their popularity gradually faded. It is safe to say that today thread curtains are experiencing a second boom in popularity. They are ways to radically change the idea of \ u200b \ u200bthe curtains, so owners who love original ideas and a non-standard approach often use them to decorate rooms.

Curtains-threads are weightlessness and a unique appearance, lightness and a wide range of use in the interior.

Thread curtains bring a fairy tale, dream and fantasy into the house.

Thread curtains can be called people from the East. It was there that such an option was invented for decorating a window in which the sun is constantly shining. The products protected from the scorching rays, but at the same time did not prevent the penetration of fresh air inside. These are not the only advantages of such products:

  • There is a wide variety in shades, colors. Ideally, these curtains are suitable for window decoration in the bedroom, nursery, living room;
  • You can independently supplement the curtain with some interesting decorative elements: pebbles and beads, beads, bugles;
  • You don't need to think long about how to tie such a curtain. It attaches quickly and looks equally beautiful in any of its designs. Can be hung on any type of curtain rod if sewn with fabric braid;
  • If the curtains of the thread on the eyelets, then their pattern and pattern can be constantly changed by changing the location of the threads. Damage to the appearance eliminates unique fiber weaving. Such products can be shortened if desired;
  • Filament curtains are used not only for window decoration, but also for room zoning. For example, they can be used to separate the kitchen from the living room, if these rooms are combined;
  • Such options go well with the rest of the curtains, they can be used as an original addition;
  • Thread curtains, even if they are additionally decorated with stones, beads, do not need additional care. You just need to wash them in a washing machine (after tying them into a roll and tying them tightly in several places at once).

Spiral

Each thread of such a product will be twisted like a spiral, hence this decor option got its name. Manufacturers guarantee that, if used correctly, the threads will not unwind.

Rainbow and Rain

The Rain collections are not like other curtains of the thread, because they have a unique graceful shine. This effect is achieved due to the fact that thin strips of lurex are woven into the threads. The thickness of each thread is no more than three millimeters. Height can be adjusted freely. The Rainbow collection is distinguished by a soft and smooth flow of one color into another. Both materials of the same color range and completely different shades can be used.

Butterflies

A romantic and beautiful kind of thread curtains, which is often used in children's rooms. They can be monochromatic or combine several colors at once. Textile butterflies are woven into a thread construction. By the way, it can be not only butterflies, but other beautiful ideas from the plant or animal world.

You can buy thread curtains today in any store. But everything that is done by hand for the interior is the most valuable and individual. To make curtains-threads with your own hands, you need:

  • The thread will look more interesting with a glossy surface;
  • Adhesive tape;
  • Satin ribbon, which in color should be combined with the main color scheme of the threads;
  • A stapler that is used to fasten duct tape and finished filaments;
  • Scissors and a needle;
  • Ruler.

In a handicraft store, you can buy all the materials and tools you need for work. After that, you can start fun and interesting work.

First you need to measure the width of the opening where you plan to hang the curtains. This is done using a ruler. Knowing this parameter, it will be easy to calculate the required amount of thread. If ordinary knitting threads are taken, then at least ten such threads are needed for one centimeter of the opening. You can also take not threads, but fabric cut into thin strips. Such strips will be enough for up to five pieces per centimeter.

Now the desired length of thread is measured and cut off. The required number of threads is cut, leveling with the first. It is better to immediately attach the cut threads to adhesive tape so that they do not get tangled later. Having cut and attached the required number of threads to the tape, you need to wrap its other half so that the two halves stick together. Now fasten everything with staples. A satin ribbon is taken and the duct tape is wrapped around it on both sides. A satin ribbon is sewn to the curtain. The next final step is to hang the curtain in the place that was prepared for it in advance.

They look very nice, and the heat from the batteries also lets in the light.

We measure the length of the cornice (I have 3.20 cm), the height of the curtain (2.50 cm). Depending on the selected threads, as well as on the desire at what distance you will distribute them, you need to calculate the amount of material for the curtains. If the thread is thin, the distance between the threads is 2-5 mm.

Divide 3.20: 0.5 = 650 threads, 650x2.50 = 1625 m Calculate how much the curtains will cost you.

and you can even paint them in a different color.

Then take, for example, two boards or plywood, preferably in the full length of the curtains themselves and measuring along the entire length for example 1 cm to cut the curtains into threads.

You can then even intertwine them with woolen, colored threads and you will get wonderful cotton curtains. Upstairs, I think it will be necessary to walk with the machine in order to fix the threads and so that the cuts do not break further.

And you probably won't have to count the number of threads, because the curtains have changed in their shape, but not in size.

And here is another "popular" way:

If anyone has outdated vertical blinds instead of ordinary curtains at home, which already need to be replaced. This is just a plus. We take and cut off the lamellas from above, leaving only a few centimeters, in order to make holes and tie the threads. As it already became clear, we make holes at the top on the remainder of the lamella and tie the already prepared threads. The length of the threads can be easily found by measuring the height from our holes to the floor, or whatever you like. The number of pieces can also be determined. If the width of the lamella is 89mm, and it was said earlier that thin threads should be placed at a distance of 2-5 mm, then we take 5mm and start dividing 89/5 = 17.8mm. Making holes every 5mm we will tie (try to tie) 18 threads on one lamella. Now we multiply by their number, and then by the length of the threads that we have chosen, we get the total length of the threads that we need to buy. Be creative!

Every woman tries to decorate her home and bring comfort to it. Unusual solutions and interesting ideas look especially original. Recently, there has been a return to such a decorative and practical element as filament curtains.

Process description

First of all, you need to think over the design, decide what kind of thread curtains you would like to see in your home. It should be noted that they can be made of different materials, have different thickness, structure and texture. The shape of the curtains also depends on whether they will serve as a partition or simply become a decoration. To add originality to the room, you can create a pattern on the curtains.

To get started and create do-it-yourself filament curtains, you need to prepare:

  • the cornice on which they will hang;
  • tapes used for fastening purposes;
  • various threads for the product;
  • decor elements: beads, sequins or rhinestones.

How long should it be?

It is very important to accurately calculate the length of the threads for the curtains so that the finished product has the dimensions you need. The main values that are required are the length of the cornice and the height of the room. You also need to take into account the type of threads and the distance where you plan to place them. The density of the curtains will depend on these indicators. Filament curtains of different densities can be seen in the photo.

If thin threads are preferred, the distance between them should be about 2-5 mm. The number of skeins must be taken in centimeters, and it is calculated as follows: the length of the cornice must be divided by the distance between the threads. This will allow you to determine the number of threads that you need to take to create curtains with your own hands along the entire length of the cornice. The resulting number should be multiplied by the distance from floor to ceiling. Then the centimeters must be converted into meters, and from here the required number of skeins must be determined. In the event that the threads are longer than necessary, it's not scary. It is enough to carefully trim them and then secure them from below.

Fastening

Most of the master classes on the manufacture of thread curtains assume that they will be fixed on a reinforcing tape. To do this, the threads must be cut, leaving the required length, and then attached to the base. They are intertwined using loops in two rows.

You can also choose the second manufacturing option. The threads are attached to special rings, which are then put on the cornice. The curtain will look like in the photo.
Sometimes filament curtains are attached to a prepared strip of wood, on which holes are made. Threads are threaded through them and fixed, as in the photo.

Main materials

Curtain yarns can be made from a variety of yarns, ranging from regular yarns to shiny and smooth materials that shimmer and flow perfectly. You can decorate the curtains with any decorative elements, it all depends on imagination and personal preferences. It can be not only beads and sequins, but also bells and other jewelry. For each bead, a suitable needle is selected, with which it is strung. It is better to hang about 10 jewelry on one thread - then the finished product will not be overloaded with unnecessary details. The thicker the thread product is woven, the more reliably you need to hook the decor.

Necessary calculations

When making the basis of thread curtains with your own hands, it is necessary to take into account the width of the doorway or other opening where the curtains will be located. If it is assumed that it will be necessary to move the curtains, then it is necessary to leave space between the threads. With frequent sliding and sliding, it is more expedient to fasten them on a wooden plank - this will be more practical and reliable.

An important point is the number of woven threads that make up the base of the curtains. The standard size requires about 15 pieces of thread, but the exact amount is taken into account based on the width of the opening and personal preference. The length should not necessarily be up to the floor, you can make curtains not to the full length - this will create the illusion of spaciousness. The edges of the curtain can be made in various shapes: semicircle, waves or classic straight lines. A more detailed master class can be viewed in the video.

Caring for filament curtains does not cause any particular difficulties. They are easily washed in warm water and soap.

Do-it-yourself muslin curtains are an original solution that will emphasize the uniqueness of your interior. Kisei curtains are also called rope or thread curtains, as they are many ropes or threads that are hung on a window, in a doorway, etc. The appearance of such curtains gives the interior sophistication, lightness and sophistication.

Rope curtains are now very popular because of their simplicity and sophistication.

For the manufacture of muslin, threads of various textures, thicknesses and colors, which are intertwined, can be used. Such curtains remain translucent, but at the same time they are able to protect from sunlight and provide fresh air to the room. Such curtains can be used not only on windows and doorways, but also to divide the room into functional areas.

What is required to make curtains?

For the manufacture of curtains, threads or a cord, base and glue are needed.

For the basis of such curtains, you can use yarn or smooth threads. Choose the decor for your curtains to your liking. These can be beads, small toys, fringes, or even bells. DIY curtains woven from yarn will be heavier. Their appearance will be solid and solid. Smooth yarn curtains are a lighter option and will look flowing. You can even weave the base from a line decorated with beads and beads.

The width of the base should match the width of the window or doorway that you want to hang the curtain on.

They can be hung on regular cornice rings. To do this, you can use strings that are threaded into the canvas and into the ring. It is also convenient to use wooden strips with holes under the muslin.

For the simplest muslin model, you will need:

  • a piece of fabric the same width as the window (doorway);
  • threads;
  • decor as desired;
  • double-sided tape or textile glue;
  • scissors.

A thread is wound on the prepared base for the curtain and fixed with glue.

To determine the length of the threads, you must first determine their desired density. Attach the pieces of thread to the fabric in a small area (about 5 cm) and calculate how many threads you need to fill that space. Let's say you need 20 threads per 5 cm, and the width of your future curtain is 1 m.In this case, perform the following calculations: 100 cm / 5 cm * 20 pcs. = 400 pcs. That is, under such conditions, you need 400 threads of a certain length. The required length of the threads is equal to the height from the eaves to the floor minus the length of the woven base to which they will be attached, and a margin of about 2 cm.

DIY curtain making process

First of all, prepare the base for the threads. The piece of fabric needs to be hemmed to keep the edges neat and tight. On the top edge, you can sew a curtain tape or sew a loop to put it on the bar. In the latter case, you need to tuck and hem the fabric so that you get a hole in which the bar will fit.

Next, you need to cut the threads of the required length. You can immediately cut the required amount if you use double-sided tape for fastening or a small part that will be required to fill a certain area of the woven base.

For knitted curtains, muslin does not require a base, the entire curtain is crocheted.

To attach it to the tape, you need to stick the adhesive tape on the back of the base, and glue the threads to its second side. You can additionally sew a strip of fabric on top to fix the fastening or glue each thread separately on textile glue. The simplest version of muslin is ready. You can make it more original by trimming the bottom so that it is beveled, wavy, or any other shape.

If you want to weave beads into the threads, it is recommended not to cut them in advance, as you may not calculate the amount of length that will be required for weaving accurately. You can braid with the strands in one piece, or use any type of weave you like.

Further care of the products is quite simple. You can wash them as needed in the usual way, after tying the ropes in a braid. The curtains do not need to be dried or ironed. It is enough to hang them in the place that they occupied. Under their own weight, they will straighten while they dry.

Thus, even a novice master can make kisei curtains with his own hands. This requires a minimum of materials and tools. The design options for products depend only on your imagination and the interior for which the curtains are intended.

In recent years, designers have increasingly used unusual and original materials, such as threads, for decorating window space. Despite their undeniable advantages, filament curtains are quite expensive and not everyone decides to use them for decorative purposes. But in vain. After all, you can create unusual and spectacular ones yourself. We will tell you about what filament curtains are used in the kitchen in the interior and provide you with a detailed master class with a photo selection of how to make them yourself.

Types of filament curtains

Filament curtains in modern kitchen design are original, unusual, effective. Despite the unusualness of such a window frame, the kitchen will look more cozy and comfortable. There are many types of cotton curtains. Let's consider their classification according to the principle of the greatest popularity:

  • narrow threads;
  • wide noodles;
  • spirals, thick ropes ("chains");
  • plain thread curtains;
  • thread curtains using several colors (combined in the form of a rainbow or in the form of a sharp contrast);
  • curtains using various decorative elements (beads, sequins, feathers);
  • threads using pompons.

Why are filament curtains so good for the kitchen?

Filament curtains have a number of undoubted advantages, thanks to which they are so popular when decorating a kitchen:

Making filament curtains with your own hands

The first step is to carefully select a working material for the manufacture of cotton curtains and translate your idea on paper.

Calculations and preparation of the necessary materials

So, as for the working material for a filament curtain, almost any yarn can become it: both simple and decorated with decorative elements or a shiny flowing wave of beads. The choice is yours. After deciding on the material, you can start measuring the window opening, as well as calculating the optimal length and width of the future curtain.

Advice. If you plan to periodically move the curtains, it is better to use a wooden base as a curtain rod.

It is very important to correctly determine the number of warp threads required. Ideally, there should be at least a dozen of them. As for the optimal length, it can be any, depending on the area of the kitchen and the height of the ceiling.

Also, take care of some of the tools that will come in handy to get your work moving quickly and efficiently:

  • tape and a regular ruler (preferably made of metal);
  • scissors;
  • threads (the best option would be to use several colors, but if you have a kitchen made in monochrome colors, then give preference to only one, maximum two colors to match the finish of the kitchen);

  • plastic / glass beads;
  • aluminum wire, about 3 mm in diameter;
  • loop screws;
  • nippers;
  • needle.

Curtain making process

We start by installing the cornice. You can use a regular wooden plank, which must first be sanded with sandpaper and painted with regular acrylic paint. While our workpiece dries up, we make a sketch for the installation of the future structure over the window space.

After the bar is ready for further actions, we create fasteners from the prepared loops, be sure to indent from each edge at least 2-3 cm.Then we start stringing rings made of aluminum wire. If you don't feel like messing around with such an attachment, you can do it easier - tie the threads directly on the eaves with a double knot.

After you have finished with the blanks, you can proceed to the main stage of work. We lay out the threads so that it is convenient to measure the required length (do not forget to add a couple of centimeters to the length for knots, if necessary). After that, we proceed directly to tying the threads to the cornice.

Advice. To have a clear idea of whether enough material has been prepared and how the curtain will look like, work should be started only from the edge, moving towards the middle.

The last stage is attaching additional decorative elements to the thread (if you have such a desire). If you use beads as them, then an impressive effect can be achieved by placing them randomly, but if you use ribbons, try to fasten them at a certain distance from each other. Then it remains only to fix the cornice in a place prepared in advance.

Tricks for adjusting the kitchen space from professionals

Unfortunately, not all of us own apartments with a chic layout and most have to be content with "modest" squares, especially the kitchen. But it doesn't matter, professional designers in such cases use some tricks when choosing curtains, which we will now share with you:

  1. To expand your kitchen space, use shiny threads in delicate light shades.
  2. It is possible to visually "raise" the ceiling using multi-colored threads. The main thing is that the color scheme actively alternates in the finishing of the curtain, thus creating the effect of vertical stripes.
  3. Play on the contrast by using threads of a shade opposite (far) from the color used for finishing the floor when creating curtains. This technique will visually expand the space.

We introduced you to information about what types of filament curtains are, and also provided a detailed master class on creating an original and spectacular do-it-yourself window decoration. Be sure to try to bring this idea to life. We are sure you will not regret it!
