DIY frame garage: how easy it is to build a structure. DIY frame garage: step-by-step instructions with a photo report DIY frame garage material calculation

Where do motorists hide their iron horses from the weather? The answer to this question is simple. To the garage, of course! It is dry and warm there, and the tool is at hand. But how to build it yourself, with minimal investment and maximum quality is a question that interests many car owners. For this, there is a frame garage. Its construction does not cause difficulties, does not require excessive financial costs.

Advantages and disadvantages of a frame garage

First of all, it is necessary to note the advantages of a frame garage. The main advantage is its cost. Despite the fact that this building does not require large financial costs, good quality and durability are provided. This is another positive point. In this house, the "iron horse" will be dry, comfortable and warm. Moreover, you can make a frame garage with your own hands.

Another undoubted advantage of this structure is that its construction does not require the involvement of additional forces, i.e., specialists. You can handle the construction yourself. And the work will not take much time.

The only drawback of the frame-panel structure is that its main material is wood. And it is known to allow both moisture and cold to pass through. Therefore, a frame house for a car needs to be well waterproofed and insulated.

Drawing up a detailed project: diagram, drawing, plan

Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare some documents. Without them, construction will be very difficult. These are plans, drawings and explanatory notes. All calculations and measurements are outlined in them.

Having prepared the necessary sketches, you will significantly reduce the time it takes to build a garage. But not every car enthusiast can boast of the skills of a draftsman and artist. Therefore, in order to thoroughly prepare, you need to either contact a professional or find information in an open source.

DIY frame garage: step by step instructions

All work takes place in several stages. Each of them is very important for obtaining a quality result, so none of them should be overlooked.

Site selection for construction

This stage must be treated responsibly. Choosing the wrong location for the garage can lead to unpleasant consequences. To do this, you need to take into account several factors:

  • when choosing a place, think carefully about the approach to it by your car;
  • it is not worth building a garage for a specific car (you need to think in advance how many cars, if desired, can be accommodated in the built garage);
  • the site must be carefully prepared: remove all debris and vegetation, level and tamp the ground.

How much material is needed

After all the paperwork has been completed, it is necessary to purchase the required materials and tools that will be needed for construction.

And the question immediately arises: which frame is better to choose? Metal or wood. Wooden will cost less, moreover, it is environmentally friendly and easy to process. The metal one will be more expensive, but it is more durable. Everything here is individual, at the discretion of the owner.

In addition to the material for the frame, you should also buy a large number of beams for the walls (section 100x100, 100x50 cm). They can be from linden, aspen or larch.

You will need concrete mortar in order to fill the foundation. You also need to prepare:

  • hammer;
  • shovel;
  • level;
  • gloves;
  • formwork (boards for it).

This is a minimum of tools to get started.

A garage frame made of a metal profile will cost more The material for the frame must be chosen taking into account your own capabilities A garage frame made of wood is lighter and easier to use

DIY foundation construction technology

The foundation in this structure must be very strong. There are 3 options to choose from:

  1. Columnar (pile) is not very convenient due to the fact that usually lighter structures are installed on it. Such a foundation is more suitable for the construction of a bath or a gazebo.
  2. A monolithic slab will be ideal for the construction of a frame garage. When filling it, do not forget about the mandatory reinforcement and installation of the floor screed. The disadvantage of this option is that the concrete hardens very slowly, which sometimes has to wait for a whole month. And further actions can be continued only when everything is completely dry.
  3. Tape. This type is the most profitable. It is cheaper than a slab, and installation is not as long.

Step-by-step instructions for the construction of a strip foundation

The process takes place in several stages:

During the last stage of work, several rules must be followed:

  • you need to do this at the same time;
  • pierce it with fittings to remove excess air from the mixture or work through the solution with a vibrator specially designed for this;
  • cover everything with polyethylene;
  • moisten the surface for several days in a row by pouring water on it;
  • grind the plane;
  • cover the foundation with roofing material for waterproofing.

Floor installation

The area for the future floor must be covered with a thin layer of gravel. Lay a reinforcing mesh on top and pour concrete. When it hardens, lay the roofing material, put the beams and nail the flooring to them. This is how a simple wooden floor is made. But it may be different.

If the foundation was installed on piles, then the technology of laying the floor does not require backfilling a layer of gravel. It is enough just to lay wooden planks, which will be slightly strengthened in the future.

At this stage, you need to think over and make a viewing hole and a cellar, if necessary.

Construction of a frame made of metal or wood

This structure can be built on the basis of a metal or wooden frame. Let's consider both options.

Metal frame from a shaped pipe

The metal frame is characterized by high strength: it is resistant to fire and mechanical damage, but much more expensive than wood. Only now it is necessary to work with him for someone who knows how to use a special tool, for example, a grinder, welding, drill. In order to make a frame garage from a pipe with your own hands, you will need rolled metal or a bent metal profile, for further sheathing with standard steel or profiled sheets, respectively.

The lower part of the frame is attached to the foundation with anchors and welding. You can also use self-tapping screws, but such a mount will be less reliable. Further, in the corners, you should install the racks. Attach the profiles with the corners outward to the bottom of the frame and the anchors and weld. Then you need to collect the upper part of the "skeleton" and connect it to the supports. And finally, weld additional vertical posts and horizontal ribs around the perimeter.

It is imperative to take care of the profile above the place where the gate will be, otherwise the installation of garage doors will become problematic in the future.

The choice of the roof is at the discretion of the owner. It can be pitched, gable or flat.

The garage frame can also be purchased ready-made. It is much more profitable and the installation will be faster.

Advantages and disadvantages of a wooden frame house for a car

A frame made of beams will cost less than a metal one. It is built in the same way: the lower part is built, the posts are vertical and intermediate, the top, etc. But, unlike a metal frame, you should not save on material here. Better to buy a quality timber.

When working with wood, it is allowed to use screws and nails (except for the junction of the foundation and the lower part of the frame, leave the anchor here.). The gaps between the posts should be between 30 and 120 centimeters.

Sheathing and insulation

Steel or profiled sheets will come in handy for sheathing a metal frame. They are point-welded to the vertical posts, and when all the walls are closed, the joints of the sheets must be welded.

The second planking method can be used for both metal and wood structures. Self-tapping screws must be attached to the profile and screwed into the frame, be sure to fix it with washers. Sheets are laid with an overlap from top to bottom so that water does not get inside the garage structure.

Plates "Izoplaat" are perfect for the exterior cladding of a building. Another good material for exterior decoration will be OSB boards.

It is imperative to insulate the frame garage, since the low temperature can harm the car. Materials for this will be mineral wool, glass wool, foam, expanded polystyrene, reflective insulation and other materials. They are rolled, tiled and sprayed. Each has its own installation technology and manufacturer's recommendations.

Video: how to build a garage yourself in just 132 hours

A frame garage is not only one of the cheapest construction methods, but also the fastest. You will be able to mount it yourself, and, arranging gatherings with friends, tell them that from the foundation to the roof you did everything yourself. This is a really worthwhile investment.

The use of frame technology will significantly reduce the cost of building a garage. After all, the small mass of the structure reduces the requirements for the foundation, and the use of boards and oriented strand boards (OSB) as the main building material allows you to reduce delivery costs. After all, you can bring boards and OSB on a small car with a low carrying capacity, and to deliver bricks, sand and cement in the required quantities, you will need a serious truck and a crane with a carrying capacity of at least 2 tons. In this article, we will tell you about how to build a frame garage with your own hands, from choosing a site and creating a project to roofing and connecting communications.

Choosing a place for a garage

An ideal place for a garage would be a playground on a hillock not far from the house. The hillock will protect the garage, inspection pit and the car from the water that has risen during a heavy downpour. If there is no such site near the house, then you will have to choose a place, focusing on proximity to the road and elevation relative to ground level. Never build a garage in hollows and depressions, otherwise even a little rain will lead to a rise in the water level in it. It is desirable that a 220 or 380 volt line runs next to the garage, this will facilitate construction and equip the garage with electric heating.

Project creation

The creation of a garage construction project has the following goals:

  • determining the sequence of construction stages;
  • determining the order of actions during each stage;
  • determining the amount of materials required to build a garage.

If you draw up a project yourself, then you will have to think carefully about the whole process of building a garage, from the supply and storage of material, to the length and order of installation of the frame boards. The drawing helps a lot in this, with strict adherence to the scale. With it, you can determine the size of the garage, the best ways to stiffen the structure, the length of the load-bearing boards and the number of fasteners. There are many different programs (for example, AutoCAD) that facilitate the design of any structures, but they all require some experience. Therefore, it is easier to get by with a paper drawing and an explanatory note to it. Or use the services of professional design or construction engineers. In this case, the project will take into account various little things that an unprepared person does not even know about. For example, the choice of wood by moisture content, the choice of boards in width, the features of construction from raw boards, the order of assembling the wall frame, and so on.

Material selection

Most often, garages are built from unplaned boards with a moisture content of 12-14%, but lumber of natural moisture is also often used. The latter will cost a little less, but a garage from such boards cannot be sheathed for finishing in the first year, which leads to an overspending of material. Therefore, experienced builders only use well-dried boards.

A beam with a section of 100x100 mm or a board with a section of 50x250 mm is used as load-bearing elements. A board with a section of 25x100 mm is used as the inner frame of the walls. For insulation, foam or mineral wool with a thickness of up to 5 cm is used, and in cold regions up to 10 cm. For external cladding, a waterproof OSB with a thickness of 15–20 mm, a wagon board or metal corrugated board are used. For internal cladding, fiberboard, plywood with a thickness of 5-10 mm or the same thickness of OSB are used. This combination of materials creates a durable and inexpensive garage.

Foundation construction

Having drawn up a project or drawing and tying it to the area, bring in all the necessary materials to create the foundation. When creating the foundation, keep in mind that a viewing hole significantly increases the functionality of the garage, allowing not only storage, but also maintenance and repair of the car. If you do not need a viewing hole, then you can choose and build a foundation, using the information from the articles What foundation is best for a house from a bar - calculation features and Fastening a bar to different types of foundation.

If you decide to build a pit, then the technology for creating the foundation will have to be changed by pulling out a pit for it. Determine the depth of the pit based on your height and needs. You can make a lying pit by equipping it with a cart, you can make a sitting or standing pit. The only difference is in height and in the fact that in a standing pit you will be able to perform any kind of work, in a sitting pit you will not be able to properly remove the engine and gearbox, and a lying pit is suitable only for small car maintenance. Here are the approximate depths of the pit and foundation pit for it:

  • recumbent 50/80 cm;
  • sedentary 130/170 cm;
  • standing 170/210 cm.

For concreting the pit, use the same technology as for pouring a concrete grillage. In the pit, you can provide niches for the tool. The width of the finished pit should be 5–10 cm less than the distance between the inner side of the wheels of one axle. Attach corners or steel pipes to the surface of the pit to prevent the vehicle from falling into it.

If you are going to install iron gates, then provide fasteners for them. Depending on the door model, it can be either 2 vertical posts with fastening elements (awnings), or 4–6 posts. If you are going to install roller shutter gates, then you can use wooden walls and ceiling to fix them.

Delivery and storage of material

Having prepared the foundation and letting it stand, bring in the boards. The frame structure allows the use of boards of natural moisture, but you must understand that by saving on them, you will seriously lose on the construction time. After all, it will not be possible to sheathe the garage for finishing because of the very large shrinkage of the board of natural moisture. Therefore, it is advisable to purchase a dried board with a moisture content of 12-14%. To store such a board, you need a shelter protected from rain. It can be made from wood blocks or aluminum tubes and polyethylene. Be sure to provide for the airing of the boards under the canopy.

First you need to collect the side walls on the ground. To do this, in accordance with the project, cut the vertical, horizontal and diagonal elements, and then proceed with the assembly. You can perform this operation yourself. To fasten the boards to each other, use metal corners and powerful self-tapping screws. These accessories are sold at most home improvement stores. Be sure to check the corners of the outer boards, because the shape of the garage depends on them. The optimal distance between vertical boards is 70-100 cm, and between horizontal boards 120-150 cm. Pay special attention to the mounting holes, because even a small mistake will lead to the fact that you will not be able to install the wall in place the first time.

Installation of the wall must be carried out by two or three people, and if the length of the wall is more than 6 meters, or the height is over 3 meters, then you will either have to call more people or use a crane.

If you do not have the opportunity to assemble more than two people or use a crane, then first assemble a box of each wall, consisting of two vertical and two horizontal boards. You can install such a box by two people. Install both side boxes, then join them with vertical planks to form the back box. Then assemble the front box. Now you can set up portable scaffolding and fill all boxes with vertical and horizontal boards. Remember, vertical boards can only be cut if you plan to install a window. In all other cases, they must be intact. But cut the horizontal boards based on the distance between the vertical boards. Connect the entire structure with corners and self-tapping screws. Do not forget to install diagonal boards in every fifth cell.

Roof installation

If possible, invite an experienced carpenter or roofer to create the roof, because within the framework of one article you can give only general principles of this work. First, install the ceiling boards (joists) at a distance of 80–140 cm from each other. If you plan to use the attic as a storage room, then the distance must be reduced, otherwise increased. To install the lags in them and in the upper horizontal boards of the frame, cut holes, the width of which is equal to the thickness of the board, and the depth is equal to half the width of the board. Thanks to this, the logs will become flush with the upper edge of the frame. The lags should protrude 50-60 centimeters to the side. After installing the roof rafters, you will cut them to the required length using a circular or chain saw.

If you are working together and there is no way to call anyone for help, then instead of a log you will have to install a complex structure (triangle), which includes logs, rafters and vertical supports. In this case, you can do without cuts in the boards and put these triangles directly on the frame, which will greatly facilitate installation. After that, install a vertical plank that connects the upper parts of the triangles, as well as the lower plank that connects the lower parts. Do not forget to install at least 2 (preferably 4) diagonal braces to protect the roof from strong winds.

Sheathing and insulation

For cladding, use corrugated board. Start sewing from the bottom, laying the sheets with an overlap, due to this, during the rain, the water will drain without getting inside. Sheathing the garage with a wagon board or its analogues, lay the board horizontally, so it will look more beautiful. If you decide to sheathe the OSB garage, then the sheets will need to be adjusted so tightly and clearly so that the gap between them in any place does not exceed 0.5 mm, and after finishing the sheathing, the joints must be covered with a mixture of PVA and fine wood dust.

Trim the roof last, don't forget to install gutters. It is desirable that the metal profile of the roof protrudes beyond the walls by 30–40 cm, this will increase the protection of the walls from water. Having finished with the outer cladding, proceed with the insulation, for this, put pieces of foam or mineral wool, cut to size, into the cells of the walls, then sew them up with plywood or OSB. Fiberboard can also be used, but its strength is insufficient, so the material will quickly become covered with scratches. To insulate the attic, it is enough to put the insulating material in the cells formed by the lags, this is several times easier than insulating the roof along the rafters.

Gate installation

If you are installing metal gates, then the hinges on them must completely match the hinges on the supporting elements. It is necessary to invite a specialist to install roller shutter gates. Therefore, the best choice for a frame garage is a carriage door. Even the most modern steel gates will not help against car theft, so their function is rather decorative. The most beautiful garage turns out if you sheathe it with a wagon board and make a gate from it, reinforcing each leaf from the inside with two horizontal and one diagonal boards. Decorative hinges (awnings), which are sold in hardware stores, will give a special flavor to the garage.

Electricity supply and heating

If it is possible to connect the garage to the power supply line, then be sure to obtain technical specifications and install a meter in accordance with them. This will save you the trouble with your electricity supplier. For heating insulated garages, wall-mounted infrared electric heaters are most effective. For heaters, be sure to install a separate circuit breaker and temperature controller.

Owners of their own cars often think about how to ensure the safety of their property. Leaving the car outside under the influence of rain, snow, sun is not an option. Therefore, the choice falls on the construction of a garage.

The simplest and most inexpensive option is a frame garage. You can create this building yourself.

Types of frame garages

Frame garages can be divided into several types. And although these structures essentially have the same function - to save the car, there are differences in the materials of execution and the cost of construction.

From a metal profile

At a cost, it can cost about 30 thousand rubles, the construction time is 6-8 days. For one car, a structure with dimensions of 4.5 * 3.5 meters is enough. In doing so, you need to make sure that the garage will not be cramped. It should easily accommodate both the car and all the means necessary for caring for them.

To create a building, you will need C10 metal profile sheets measuring 2 meters. In total, 23-25 such sheets are enough.

Frame-panel board

It can also be easily built with your own hands. A project for its construction is not required, you can use ready-made structures that are created in production: panels and rafters.

Such a structure will perfectly fit into the landscape design of any site. The construction scheme for such a garage is standard:

  • Creation of the foundation.
  • Installation of the frame.
  • Sheathing of the structure with panels.
  • Creation of insulation.
  • Roof installation.

Advantages and disadvantages of a frame garage

This technology has a number of undeniable advantages, which often become the main arguments when choosing such a construction option:

  • The main advantage of a frame garage is that it is easy to build it yourself. This turns out to be quite economical. All its elements are fastened together with bolts and self-tapping screws. Work can be done at any time of the year.
  • It is more convenient to work together, the construction will take no more than two weeks. The creation of a building does not require the involvement of sophisticated equipment, there is no construction waste, as in a conventional construction site.

The disadvantages of a frame garage include:

  • Flammability of materials. When creating a frame, it is worthwhile to understand that to ensure fire safety, wall cladding should be made with non-combustible materials.
  • To insulate the structure, it is advisable to use stone wool as it is also not exposed to fire.
  • To extend the life of the frame, it is recommended to use an antiseptic. This is a timber frame structure.

What is needed for construction

Before starting construction, you need to find a piece of land where the garage will be built, choose a design option, purchase materials and tools.

Project

The project can be made to order or created by yourself. There are many design solutions that can be downloaded for free on the net. This will save you money.

In any case, the project should contain the following data:

  • Building plan, preferably in 3D;
  • Foundation construction, plinth;
  • Height and location marks relative to other objects on the site;
  • Analysis of the installation of wall structures;
  • Roof creation drawing;
  • Drainage.

All drawings require explanatory notes, which contain the names of the materials used, the work plan and the characteristics of the finished object.

Frame garage project

Location

Choosing a suitable site is an equally important task. Ideally, a land size of 6 * 6 meters is suitable for a garage if it will be built for one car. You need to keep a little stock.

The site is cleared, then a trench is dug into which the formwork is installed. This completes the preparation, you can proceed to the actual construction.

How to build

The construction of a frame garage includes certain sequential work. The stages of construction are as follows:

  1. Creation of the foundation. This design is lightweight, so no capital foundation is required. You can fill it, then the floors will have to be covered with gravel or asphalt. Another option is a tiled foundation. It already includes the creation of the floor. It should be noted that the foundation must stand for at least 3 weeks.
  2. Plinth decoration. Its layout is made from concrete blocks or bricks. It is necessary to isolate this structural element from moisture. It can be used hydroglass, a special waterproofing material.
  3. Erection of the frame. For the base of the structure, you can take a wooden beam, but a welded metal structure will be more reliable. The creation of a frame involves the following types of work:
    • Creation of the base: the lower trim is placed on the base. The bar is connected to each other.
    • Racks are mounted, corner braces are created, the structure is fixed diagonally.
    • The upper harness is attached.

    Expert advice! The wall on which the gate will be hung needs reinforcement. For this, an additional reinforced beam is installed on it.

  4. Sheathing the frame, creating walls. When constructing walls, it is necessary to immediately lay insulation, then you can do the cladding. For garages, clapboard or siding is used as facing materials. The inner part of the structure is decorated with beams in steps of 30 centimeters; insulation must also be laid between these elements. Mineral wool is often used for these purposes. Further, the final plating is also carried out.
  5. Roof creation. This work includes the following steps:
    • Rafters are mounted;
    • Steam, heat and waterproofing is created;
    • Roofing is being installed. You can choose from slate, metal shingles or andulin.

    It is advisable at this stage of work to equip drainage systems and snow retainers.

  6. Hanging the gate. Currently there are many gate options. The most widespread are swing gates, since they are easy to operate and reliable. The structure also consists of a frame, filling and sheathing. More often, steel profile sheets are attached to a frame made of metal corners. The castle is cut in last.

How to insulate

Insulation of the garage is, of course, optional. This is an optional stage of construction, but many people want to use it comfortably in winter.

Stone wool in mats is often used to provide thermal insulation. It is convenient to place them between the racks:

  1. A wind protection is preliminarily created on the surface, a film is used for this. Mats are fastened with boards or sheathed with iron sheets.
  2. You can use Penoplex or. The material is attached to the walls of the garage with glue and dowels. Further, the surface is plastered.
  3. Quite effective to use for building insulation. They have a profiled coating, a layer of insulation, and a metal sheet is located on the inside.
  4. In the garage, the roof, walls and gates should be insulated. If there is a basement or a viewing pit, it is necessary to deal with their thermal insulation. The technology is similar to how a heat-insulating layer is created for the walls of a building.
  5. Roof insulation technology depends on whether there is a ceiling. If there is one, then the insulation is carried out from the side of the attic. In this case, expanded clay can be used, a layer of 3-4 centimeters is enough.
  6. If the roof is attic, then the technology is similar to the creation: waterproofing, insulation,.
  7. Gate insulation- the most important thing, since the cold penetrates into the garage from here. In addition to the fact that metal, in principle, is not able to retain heat, there are still gaps and cracks between the canvases and walls, floors. Cold penetrates even at the moment the gate is opened.
  8. Lightweight materials are used for insulation, so as not to make the gate heavier, - penoplex, polystyrene. The insulation technology is the same as for the walls.
Garage from corrugated board

Construction of a garage with a pit

Do you need a pit? The answer to this question should be determined even before the start of construction. It is needed if the car is being repaired in the garage. A garage with a pit will cost a little more, but according to motorists, the difference is insignificant.

Dig a hole at the stage of creating the foundation. The walls are lined with bricks for reinforcement. Good lighting must be created without fail. A steel trim is mounted on the top of the pit walls, which is then poured with cement. This will ensure safety during repairs.

The foundation is created monolithic. In this case, iron reinforcement is necessarily used, thus creating a frame. Then the formwork is made and concrete is poured. After the concrete has dried, you can start creating a garage frame.

  • For better insulation of the space, you can use special rubber pads that are attached along the perimeter of the gate leaves from the inside. You can use frost-resistant rubber or silicone tape.
  • Sometimes it makes sense to hang a tarp in front of the gate to eliminate heat loss.
  • It is advisable to arrange a separate entrance so that you do not enter the garage through the gate. To do this, you can hang a door at the end of the wall or make a separate entrance for people through the gate itself.

Any man can easily build a frame garage with his own hands in order to provide his car with an inexpensive and reliable "home". The construction of such a structure requires a minimum of time and financial resources.

Any "caravan" these days must meet a number of requirements. Modern motorists want a place to store their vehicle:

  • was built as quickly as possible and with the least cost of money;
  • qualitatively protected the car from external influences;
  • distinguished by its simple design and ease of regular maintenance;
  • provided the required thermal regime and at the same time would not require excessive heating costs.

Vehicle storage space

All these requirements are met by frame garages, which have become very popular among vehicle owners in recent years. Such structures can be constructed using frame-panel technology, from a metal profile and from a wooden bar. Most often, domestic motorists opt for structures made of natural wood and metal profiles. Timber garages are characterized by optimal vapor permeability, excellent heat conservation, unique environmental friendliness and excellent appearance. Such objects fit perfectly into any landscapes in urban development or on a suburban area.

Buildings for a car from a metal profile are also in demand by car owners. They have high strength, are quickly assembled, and can be operated without additional maintenance for many years. But the construction of frame-panel structures is usually carried out when a person needs a cheap "caravan", which will not be used for a very long time. Subsequently, in place of such a cheap garage, you can build a better and more durable frame building.

First of all, you need to develop a project "auto house". It will determine the geometric dimensions of the building, calculate the required materials, and also indicate the sequence of construction activities. In fact, a project is a step-by-step instruction for building a building. It will be easy for you to make a do-it-yourself frame garage if you stick to the planned items.

After drawing up the project, you can start cleaning and preparing the site for the installation of a frame "motorhome". There is nothing difficult here. You will need to remove all vegetation from the site, level the ground and tamp it with high quality, and then make a gravel pillow on the site, etc. It is necessary for the garage foundation to securely "hold" the structure for a long time.

Cushion of gravel construction sand

Note! The pillow must also be carefully leveled, striving to obtain the smoothest and most even surface for mounting the frame structure. This is easy to achieve if you use a vibrating plate.

The standard size of a garage area is 10 by 10 meters. "Avtodomik" with such dimensions will be ideal for "rest" of your car and its maintenance. If you are planning to build a garage for two vehicles, you need to draw up a project with a large building size. There are no particular problems with this. On the Internet, you will always find projects for every taste, for one or several machines. Having cleared the building site, you can start pouring the base for the garage. It is recommended to make the foundation for a frame "motorhome" from a concrete monolithic slab. How to do this work, see below.

A concrete slab is considered an excellent base for a building. It prevents the risk of deformation of the garage during operation due to the fact that such a foundation takes up all loads evenly. Its construction is carried out as follows:

  1. Dig a ditch around the perimeter of the future garage (about 50 cm deep).
  2. Install timber formwork on three sides of the trench.
  3. Fill the moat with concrete.
  4. Wait about 20 days for the foundation to harden.

At this stage of the work, it is important to use good concrete. Do not try to save money on this material by purchasing it from dubious sellers. Always use certified concrete. Otherwise, there is a possibility that your do-it-yourself frame garage will turn out to be not at all as reliable and durable as you imagined it to be.

Foundation slab made of certified concrete

An important nuance. If the foundation is being erected on unstable soil, it is recommended to additionally: strengthen the concrete slab with reinforcing meshes (preferably in two layers); install ribs (monolithic) stiffness. Such a foundation will last forever. At first glance, it does not look very reliable due to the shallow depth of the trench. But this impression is deceiving. Frame garages are characterized by low weight. Therefore, the half-meter foundation can withstand their weight without any problems.

There is one more important point worth noting. The foundation you made will serve as the floor in the garage. You can leave the concrete base as it is after pouring, or make it decorative with any suitable materials. The most popular flooring scheme in a frame garage is as follows:

  • cover the concrete foundation with granite chips or ordinary gravel;
  • mount a reinforcing mesh over the layer of material;
  • fix the resulting structure with cement mortar and lay reinforced concrete slabs of small thickness on it;
  • you are laying roofing material.

This floor covering is very strong and warm. At the same time, the cost of funds for it is minimal.

We will talk in detail about how to build a garage frame made of wood, since it is wood that is most often used for the construction of boxes for cars. The construction of a panel building or a garage made of metal profiles will be essentially the same. The erection of the lower part of the hangar for the car is carried out with boards, which are necessarily impregnated with an antiseptic composition. The geometric dimensions of the boards are 10x4 or 10x5 cm.

Corner posts and posts for entering the garage are made of 10x10 cm beams.All other structural elements - rafters, additional posts, beams, can be made of 10x5 cm boards.The optimal length of wood material is 3 m.Perhaps this height is excessive for a garage, but on the other hand, it will be very convenient for you to cut the six-meter standard beams into two three-meter blanks. However, it is possible to build a garage and a lower one, just there will be more wood waste.

Corner posts of a frame garage made of 10x10 cm beams

After installation, corner posts are attached to the lower rim. After that, you can put the upper crown on them. The distance between the posts is taken as 1.1–1.2 m. A larger distance is not recommended, as the stability of the structure will decrease. It is allowed not to make special grooves for posts. The latter can be easily fixed with corners on nails or on. It is also recommended to install temporary slopes to securely fix the wooden posts. The mounted supports are attached to the crowns according to the “thorn-groove” scheme. And then they are fixed with nails, which are driven at a slight angle into the groove.

If you plan to lay the garage floor on logs, they should be placed between the planks of the lower harness, and then nailed at an angle on each side of the log. The recommended length of the hardware is 12 cm. Do not forget to lay the wooden beam on the supports located on the sides of the gate opening, and then cut it - securely and firmly - into the corner posts.

The roof of the "motorhome" is made of boards 10x2.5 (10x4) cm. They can then be sheathed with bitumen sheets, which can be laid directly on the crate of the building. It is even easier to finish the roof with metal or corrugated board. But in this case, you will have to spend money on the purchase of these rather expensive materials. Fastening of profiled sheets or other roofing products is carried out using a suitable technology, involving the use of appropriate hardware and an electric tool.

Sheathing the roof of the garage with bituminous sheets

An indispensable element of the garage roof is a drainage structure. The simplest weir can be made from a sewer pipe (plastic) by cutting it in half. It is advisable to additionally treat the structure made with some kind of polymer composition for its one hundred percent protection against corrosion. The walls of the frame garage are sheathed with construction special paper. Hardboard is then laid and attached to it. The latter can be replaced with OSB boards (use those types that have high moisture resistance) or with plywood sheets.

Outside, the walls are sheathed with profiled sheets (they are connected to the struts of the structure). It is optimal when the crate is pre-mounted between the posts. For its installation, usually 4x4 or 3x3 cm blocks of wood are used. The lathing provides an air gap between the cladding material and the struts of the structure.

Don't forget to drive into the garage ...

Any gate can be installed for a budget "autohouse". The easiest way is to make ordinary swing ones. They are lightweight and easy to make. The gate collection scheme is as follows:

  • make the outer and inner frames of the structure (use a corner of 6.5 cm);
  • connect the frames made with small metal strips;
  • from a 4x2.5 cm profile you make a sash frame, which then needs to be sheathed with two-millimeter sheet steel.

And the function of reliable bolts in the gate will be performed by metal pins that need to be inserted into tubes of suitable diameter. It will be easy for you to make them. Be sure to process all elements of the metal gate with a file and sandpaper, then cover them with linseed oil to increase the protection of the structure from rusting and paint.

Now you know how to build a frame garage. You only need to equip it from the inside. We recommend sheathing the "motorhome" ceiling with clapboard, then lay a layer of paper on it and add insulation. In winter, the garage can be heated with a 500-watt floodlight or a small-power fan heater (about 2 kW). The use of spiral and other electric heaters in frame buildings is prohibited.

In the construction of garages, simplified technologies and lightweight structures are often used. The purpose of any garage is to protect a car or other equipment from unauthorized access, minor repairs and maintenance, as well as storage of spare parts, tools and other useful little things. Even a non-capital structure does an excellent job with these functions. A do-it-yourself frame garage will help to significantly save money on construction, and in functionality it will not yield to a capital garage made of brick or concrete.

Features, advantages and disadvantages of a frame-type garage

The frame of a self-built garage is most often made of wood. This material is easy to process, affordable and does not weigh down the structure. Almost any material can be used for cladding: wood, vinyl or metal siding, but the most popular today are corrugated sheets or metal sandwich panels.

The advantages of such a garage include:

  • Ease of construction;
  • Ability to perform work without involving equipment;
  • Lightweight yet durable construction;
  • There is no need for a buried foundation.

Among the disadvantages, the flammability of the frame material should be noted, therefore it is recommended to sheathe it from the outside and from the inside with non-combustible material, and use stone wool that does not support combustion for insulation. It is also recommended to impregnate the wooden frame with an antiseptic, which prolongs its service life.

Foundation and foundation

The frame garage has a lightweight structure, so it does not require the construction of a tape-deepened foundation. However, if there is a need for an inspection pit, you can make a foundation with a pit using the same technology as when building a garage from a metal profile. The technology for erecting a frame garage based on ready-made concrete blocks is considered below.

The finished foundation will carry all the load from the building, so you need to wait several days before installing the garage frame.

Garage frame

The frame is made of well dried wood. For the frame you will need:

  • Beam 10x10 for the main posts and beams of the floor and ceiling;
  • 40 mm board for rafters;
  • 20 mm board for lathing and intermediate posts;
  • Floorboard from 40 mm thick.

The amount of building material depends on the size of the garage and is calculated after drawing a sketch. Frame manufacturing technology:

  1. The surface of the foundation is waterproofed with two layers of roofing material glued to bitumen mastic. Waterproofing protects the wooden frame from moisture and decay. A bar of the lower strapping is placed around the perimeter of the garage, connecting it in the corners with a cut and dowels. For this purpose, a 10x10 cm beam is used.

  2. Corner and intermediate racks from a bar are installed on the lower beam, fixing with dowels, additionally fixing them to metal corners with self-tapping screws. The distance between the posts is at least 2 meters. Then the upper strapping is installed from a 10x10 cm bar. The bar is fixed in the same way as the lower one.

  3. Intermediate racks are installed from a 20 mm board at a distance of about 50 cm. It is convenient to choose the distance between the racks according to the size of the insulation mats, then you will not have to lay additional crate for them. Horizontal jumpers are attached between the racks, again focusing on the height of the insulation. The ties are fastened with corners and self-tapping screws.

  4. The roof rafter system is made of a 40 mm board, the rafter pitch is from 0.5 to 1 meter, depending on the snow load in the region. On the beam of the upper harness, the floor beams from a 40 mm board are fastened with pins, the rafter legs are attached to it at an angle to each other. Strengthen the rafters with braces and braces, depending on the size of the roof.

  5. A waterproofing film is laid on the rafters, for example,. On top of the film, a lathing from a 20 mm board is attached along the ridge along both slopes, the lathing step is 0.5 meters.
  6. Floor slabs are made from a 40 mm board, they are installed on the lower strapping. The floors are made of floorboards laid on the floor slabs. The gate frame is made of a 10x10 cm bar, fastening them with dowels and additionally reinforcing them with metal corners. In order to give additional rigidity to the doors, transverse ties are made. The finished garage frame is covered with an antiseptic in two layers, after which you can proceed to the sheathing.

Sheathing of the garage with metal profiles and insulation of the garage

The choice of a metal profile for covering a garage has a lot of advantages: metal coatings are fire-resistant, wind-blown, have high strength and durability. The metal profile is attached to the frame using special screws. They have a hex head, a sealing washer and come in a variety of lengths and colors. For walls, choose a wall metal profile of grade C or PS, and for a roof - grade PK or N.

  1. Begin the cladding from the walls. Apply a sheet of metal profile to one of the corner posts, align it with a plumb line and fix it with self-tapping screws into the lower wave. The next sheet is overlapped on one wave and both sheets are fixed together with self-tapping screws. In total, 4-5 self-tapping screws are needed for 1 square meter of sheathing. The gate is sheathed with the same wall metal profile.
  2. If necessary, the metal profile is cut to size with metal scissors or a jigsaw. Cutting it with a grinder is not recommended, as this burns the polymer coating, and the corrosion resistance of the metal is sharply reduced.
  3. Before installing the covering on the roof, it is necessary to install the wind bars. The metal profile is laid on the roof from the leeward side, fixing it together with the wind bars to the crate. The metal ridge is attached after laying the sheets so that the self-tapping screw enters the upper wave.
  4. Insulation of the garage is performed at will. For this purpose, stone wool, made in the form of mats, is used. The mats are laid between the posts, having previously fixed a windproof film on the walls. The mats are fixed with a filing from a board or immediately sheathed with sheet metal.
  5. Instead of a metal profile and insulation, it can be used for the construction of a garage, which are prefabricated elements with an external profiled coating, insulation mats and an internal smooth metal sheet.

A frame garage can also be made from a metal corner sheathed with corrugated board. Such a garage is heavier and requires the use of a welding machine, but it is safer in terms of fire safety. However, if repair and welding work is planned in the garage, it is more reliable on a metal frame.
