Manufacturers of household appliances are trying to simplify the life of modern housewives as much as possible. For example, a washer-dryer is convenient for those who live in a metropolis apartment and are constantly busy with business. However, before you buy such a model, you should find out the features, the main pros and cons.

How the dryer works in the washing machine

If the machine is currently present in almost every home, then the washer-dryer is less common. Some housewives do not know how this technique works. The device is a hybrid of a washing machine and a dryer. The technique copes with both functions, but the principle of operation is different. A washing machine with a clothes dryer has not 3, but 4 or 5 cycles of operation. Behind the drum of the device is a heating element that heats and blows air onto the laundry. Due to this, moisture evaporates. The liquid condenses and is collected in a reservoir or sewer.

The technique may have special programs, for example:

  • humidity sensor;
  • imbalance control;
  • control over the level of foam;
  • dry wash;
  • ironing and more.

How to choose a washer dryer

In catalogs of online stores or an assortment of hypermarkets, a washing machine and a dryer should be selected taking into account the standard parameters for a conventional machine:

  • design;
  • energy class;
  • manufacturer;
  • washing efficiency class;
  • tank material;
  • loading type (vertical, frontal);
  • spin efficiency class;
  • noise level;
  • capacity;
  • rotational speed;
  • motor type, etc.

However, when choosing a washer-dryer, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  1. Mounting method (embedded or standing alone). For apartments with a small bathroom, the first option is preferable.
  2. drum features. You should pay special attention to this detail if you plan to use equipment for drying overall products (blankets or pillows).
  3. Material (plastic, stainless steel). Metal appliances are more expensive.
  4. Number of programs. As a rule, 8 for washing and 3 for drying are enough for all housewives. However, if you have a variety of fabrics in your wardrobe, as well as families with children, you should choose more functional models.
  5. Method for removing liquid from the drum (condensation tank, sewerage). In the second case, you do not have to constantly empty the water collection tank. However, if it is impossible to connect to the sewer, then the first option is preferable.
  6. Drying mode activation (manual, automatic). If you plan to dry with the help of technology not only washed clothes, but also other things, then you should consider the second option.

Washing machines with dryers have appeared on the Russian market for a long time, but they have not yet received a particularly wide distribution - the vast majority of citizens still hang clothes on strings and heating radiators in the old fashioned way. So is it worth abandoning the "grandmother's" method and buying a washer-dryer?

Washer-dryer: do we need it?

When the laundry is washed and wrung out, it is time to dry it. As a rule, things are laid out in a basin, and then with the help of clothespins they are hung on a structure intended for this, be it a rope on a balcony or a folding dryer. But what if you buy a washer-dryer?

Two in one

The main difference between a washer-dryer and a conventional monofunctional machine is an additional heating element (heating element). The main heater, usually located in the lower part of the machine between the drum and the tank, serves to heat the water. The second is needed to heat the air, which is injected into the tank of the machine through a special air duct.

The principle of drying is simple: hot air, passing through damp linen, absorbs moisture, which subsequently condenses in a reservoir designed for this purpose. The drum of the machine at this time rotates alternately in different directions at a low speed - this contributes to more uniform drying.

Types of drying

In most washer-dryers, the drying function is still, albeit a pleasant, but an addition, so manufacturers focus on the quality of washing. So drying in many models is implemented extremely simply - by timer. The user, to the best of his understanding and experience, sets the drying time. Having worked out the allotted time, the machine turns off, and whether the laundry has dried up or dried up long ago is none of her business.

Washer-dryer Ardo WD 80 L (12500 rubles) dries only on time

However, every day more and more “advanced” units appear in stores, in which drying to a certain residual moisture is possible. Technically, this is somewhat more complicated, but the result is usually much better. If the model provides for such a drying method, there is a thermometer sensor at the bottom of the moisture condenser. Based on the temperature and humidity of the air, the “smart” Fuzzy Logic system (it is now available in almost every modern unit) determines the humidity of things. As soon as it matches the set value, drying stops.

The Bosch WVD 24520 EU combined unit (24,000 rubles) dries both on a timer and to a certain degree of humidity

In machines of this type, there are several degrees of drying in terms of humidity. Relieving the user of the need to indicate the desired humidity as a percentage, manufacturers seek to decipher the dry numbers, choosing understandable equivalents (“very dry”, “under the iron”, “in the closet”). It is best that the laundry remains slightly damp after washing: overdried fabric fibers become brittle and things wear out faster, and ironing a slightly damp fabric is always easier.

Dry weight

Combined washer-dryers have one drawback - in the drying mode, they are able to qualitatively process no more than half of the total capacity of the unit. For example, the Electrolux EWW 16781 W model washes up to seven kilograms of laundry at a time, and dries - no more than three and a half (of course, “dry” weight is implied). As a rule, a “big wash” involves the maximum load of the machine, which means that it will have to be dried in two stages - and this is additional time and energy consumption. By the way, washing machines with a dryer are generally less economical than conventional ones: the energy consumption class does not rise above B, and there are units of classes that have long been unthinkable for washing machines C and D.

The washer-dryer Electrolux EWW 16781 W (29,000 rubles) washes 7 kg of laundry, dries - 3.5 kg

Manufacturers are naturally aware of the washer-dryer capacity problem and are doing their best to remedy the situation. Something even works. A good example is the Hotpoint-Ariston ARMXX D 129 model. It can wash up to 7 kg of laundry and dry up to 5 kg (depending on the type of fabric, of course). This is already a big step forward. But will the “drying” load ever reach the value of “washing”? Manufacturers are still vaguely answering, they say, "we are working on it."

Xotpoint-Ariston ARMXXD 129 (19,000 rubles) already dries 5 kg of laundry (washes - 7 kg)

Reliable - unreliable?

There is an opinion that washer-dryers are generally less reliable than conventional units. Supporters of this point of view argue that dryer units break down more often because they are technically more complicated than simple washing machines. At first glance, the statement is logical, but it would still be strange if manufacturers supplied deliberately unreliable devices to the market.

The result of consultations on this issue with the repairmen of such equipment from several metropolitan firms turned out to be curious, although far from unexpected. All the experts we interviewed, as if by agreement, argued that the main cause of breakdowns of any equipment, including dryers, is mishandling by users. It is non-compliance with the rules of use and neglect of the recommendations from the instruction manual of the device that lead to disastrous consequences. So, for example, washer-dryers most often “burn” precisely because of the overload during drying - the owners forget that all the washed clothes cannot be dried at one time.

To take or not to take?

And yet, the answer to the question of whether it is worth buying a washer-dryer exists - although not unambiguous. And it sounds like this: if the living space allows, it is better to purchase a separate drying machine. In terms of dimensions, it is close to a washing machine (there are full-size and narrow models) and is able to dry about the same amount of laundry as it is able to wash. So the things wrung out in the washing machine will only have to be transferred to the dryer. By the way, monofunctional units always have more programs than combined ones. The disadvantages of this solution include spatial and financial factors - two devices take up twice as much space as one, and cost about twice as much: a high-quality middle-class dryer (for example, Bosch WTE-86302BY or Gorenje D 65225) costs not cheaper than a good washing machine.

Well, if there is a desire to save space (or money), but there is no mood to hang clothes around the apartment, a washer-dryer will be a good way out. The cost of a washer-dryer starts from 15 thousand rubles, which is on average one and a half times more expensive than a solo machine. The main "drying" criteria for choosing a model are the presence of "smart" drying by residual moisture (and not just by a timer) and the maximum weight of the laundry to be dried. The main thing is not to neglect the recommendations of the instructions later: since it says that “drying load is up to 3 kg”, then so be it. And if you don’t rush and don’t be greedy, a good combined unit, for all its complexity, will serve the owners faithfully for many years.

So, washer dryer. Its main advantage is the ability to both wash and dry things. Everything is done by one appliance, not two (as is the case with washing machines and dryers). The apartment saves space. Perhaps this is the only (albeit important) plus of the washer-dryer. The main disadvantage is the discrepancy between the amount of washed and dried linen. That is, after washing, the user in most cases must remove some of the things from the machine and only then activate the drying of the remaining items in the drum. The fact is that for high-quality drying in a reasonable time, more space is needed in the drum of the machine than is obtained when it is fully loaded for the initial wash. If the full load for washing at the washer-dryer, for example, is 6 kg, then it can dry about 3-4 kg of things after washing. This is why individual dryer drums are always larger than washing machine drums. Therefore, a washer-dryer, so that it really is an assistant in the house, so that all the potential inherent in it by the manufacturer is revealed, is a good solution for bachelors, for small families (consisting of two people, it can no longer cope with three people's clothes - it will have to be dried in several cycles), where there are not very many washings and often the washing machine does not load “to the eyeballs”. Plus, do not forget about saving space: a washer-dryer is accurately shown to a small family in a small apartment.

We also note that the drying process in a washer-dryer (air heating) is more energy-intensive than the washing process (water heating), therefore, the energy efficiency class of most washer-dryers presented in stores is B or C, while “simple” washing machines are all class A, or even A +, A ++ (details on the energy efficiency classes of household washer-dryers - below) At the same time, naturally, if you use only the “washing” function, then the energy consumption will correspond, including in the reviewed models, to the current washing machine regulations. But why in the case of "only washing" buy a washer-dryer? Another point is the duration of the process. Washing and drying take, of course, more time than just washing. However, this is not such a big minus, in our opinion.

By the way, in many models of washer-dryers (including all those included in the review), the possibility of a sequential cycle of washing and drying is implemented, when the process occurs non-stop (it is not necessary to turn on the drying separately after washing) and is programmed at the initial stage - before washing. However, in this case there is always a clear limit on the weight of the loaded (including for washing) things - usually it is half or slightly more than the usual maximum load of the machine in the case of only washing.

* - The energy efficiency indicator is indicated when using washing and drying. If you use only washing, the energy consumption is lower (see special sidebar).

*** - Washer-dryer Samsung Eco bubble WD1142 XVRdiffers from other models included in the review in dimensions (it is larger) and cost (significantly more expensive). She was included in the review based on the results of voting by portal visitors.Hi- Tech. Mail. en, as well as due to the current lack of other models of this well-known manufacturer of this type of devices in Russia.

Design

Below, of course, we will talk more about the technical characteristics and functionality of the sextet of washer-dryers presented in the review. In the same segment - about the appearance. We note right away that five washer-dryers in the context of design (and not only) should be considered separately from the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR. This is an expensive model (prices for all monitored models are in the summary table above) - an attempt by the Korean manufacturer to gain a foothold in the premium price range in this segment of household appliances. Consequently, the Koreans, as they say, "invested" in the car - they made it a beauty. Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR - juicy red, the manufacturer calls this color Tango, the color is unusual for such equipment. Juicy red (slightly metallized) is combined with metal-like front trim elements, with a large hatch (made “in chrome”), with a glossy metal rotary programmer in the center of the control panel. In general, the model looks very impressive, definitely more spectacular than all the others in the review. But, as already noted, this does not give this model additional “points” due to frankly different price categories with the rest of the quintet (today, Samsung Electronics does not have more affordable washer-dryers in Russia). In addition, it, as already noted, is larger than the other reviewed models in terms of dimensions (see the table at the beginning of the review). We just appreciated the appearance of the device - it objectively attracts attention more than other models. Is not it?

Bosch WVD24460OE. Outwardly - a typical German Frau of the most stringent rules. A classic example of technology from BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH. The very case when the ball is ruled by minimalism. When, if not a complete absence, then almost an absence of design - and there is design. This is a model about which you can not say that she is ugly. But you can't call it beautiful either. White car. The dominant control panel looks like a display with functional silver TouchControl touch buttons underneath. Rather, these are not buttons in their classical sense - they do not need to be pressed, you just need to touch them. But they look like classic buttons. Therefore, if you do not know that they are touch, by touching, you are trying to press. Pressing fails. At first, it will definitely be a little annoying. Luminous symbols on the display, of course, enliven the appearance of the model. The overall impression is rather pleasant. Modest, but tasteful - this is a banal, but quite suitable definition for the Bosch WVD24460OE appearance.

Related to the previous model washer-dryer Siemens WD 14H441. In principle, Siemens appliances in the price context are positioned by BSH as top-level appliances of the middle price segment. This, of course, was reflected in the design, a little less than we would like, but still. Dominant - a silver loading hatch with a black insert - looks restrained and impressive. The black sunroof insert echoes the large (and black when off) display. Under the display are silver functional buttons (again made by buttons, but not pressed - touch), on the left is a silver rotary programmer. A little less modest and, in general, also tasteful. But it's boring.

LG F1496AD3. This South Korean manufacturer has long moved away from the disco-like abundance of “bulbs” on the control panels of its washing and washer-dryers (there was, there was such a period). The design, at first glance, is rather ascetic - a discreet combination of white and chrome (plastic elements, for example, the edging of the loading hatch, are painted like metal). A dark (in the off state) rectangular area of the display with function buttons integrated into it is located on the right side of the control panel. Below it are other functional buttons - silver. On the left is a rotary programmer (coloring - under the metal). And here there is a small "chip", which apparently came from the "disco" times - the programmer frames the indicator, on which the program selection process is accompanied by the movement of the orange light indication in a circle (indicates the selected program) - in the active mode it cools the overall design - picture. In general, the design can be attributed to the classic - for many interiors.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) and Zanussi ZKG2125 - although the brands belong to different manufacturers, both have Italian roots. And it's noticeable. Both machines are relatively inexpensive, this is also noticeable in design. Italians often do this - the poorer we are, the merrier. Here and there: it seems outwardly nothing special, but somehow funny. The Indesit machine has these rotary controls for the washing water temperature and the selection of the drying program, as well as the main rotary programmer - made by such funny “pimps” (forgive the word). The Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) does not have a display. And the Zanussi ZKG2125 has it, only a very small one - in the right corner of the control panel. A rotary programmer stands out here, which, in symbiosis with the pictograms printed around it, looks a little pretentious in Italian, but thereby saving this budget unit from the dull appearance of the economy class. Between the programmer and the display are round, tactilely pleasant function buttons and a bunch of light indication of the selected options and the entered settings. Despite the absence of any bright design frills, Indesit and Zanussi cars look decent on a budget.

Washing, spinning, energy efficiency classes

In the characteristics of any washer-dryer, washing, spinning, and energy efficiency classes play an important role (all of them are indicated in the table at the beginning of the review). They are marked with the same Latin letters - from A to G - but they mean completely different things. The washing class indicates its quality (linen is washed with a cotton wash cycle, without prewash, in water heated to 60 ° C), how clean the washed linen will be in the end (EU directives provide for certain standards). In the context of washing, marking F and G - its worst quality, C, D and E - average, the letters A and B indicate respect for fabrics and excellent washing quality. Currently, only washing machines with washing class A are sold in stores. Washing class A is also assigned to all the washer-dryers that got into the review.

The same letters indicate the spin classes. The award of one or another spin class depends on the residual moisture content of the laundry after spinning it with a standard cycle at the maximum declared speed. Dry laundry is weighed before washing, then, after washing, wrung out (wet) is weighed. The weight of the dry laundry must be subtracted from the weight of the wet laundry. The difference should be divided - again by the weight of dry laundry. Then the quotient is multiplied by 100% - done. The residual humidity of the laundry in the washing machine with spin class A should not exceed 45%. Spin class B assumes residual moisture up to 54%, C - up to 63, and D - up to 72%. Currently, stores mainly sell washer-dryers and washing machines with a spin class from A to C. The maximum number of revolutions of the drum during the spin cycle in the washing machine, of course, affects the final spin result - the residual moisture content of the laundry, but is not the determining indicator for awarding the spin class of a particular model.

The energy efficiency class of washer-dryers is also indicated by the Latin letters mentioned above. The letter designation indicates the amount of electricity consumed for a certain standard cycle of operation. For example, to calculate the energy efficiency rating of washing machines, a cotton cycle (no prewash) is used at 60°C water with the maximum weight of the laundry declared (maximum possible load). The Energy Efficiency Index is defined in kWh per kilogram of laundry. For washing machines with a dryer, the energy efficiency class is determined by the results of using the drying cycle (as a more energy-intensive part of the processing of linen) of cotton items at the maximum declared load of linen. The Energy Efficiency Index is measured in kWh per kilogram of items. For your convenience, here is an up-to-date energy efficiency table for washer-dryers.

Note that without the use of drying, washer-dryers consume less electricity. Usually they have an energy efficiency class of A or even A +, A ++. However, the plus label has not yet been officially approved by the EU Energy and Transport Commission. Therefore, the “correct” manufacturers are increasingly using the A-10%, A-20%, etc. marking, which is more understandable to the user and does not violate the relevant EU standards. Here is a table of the energy efficiency of washing machines. With its help, if necessary, you can calculate the energy consumption of the washer-dryer with “wash only” (if there is an A-**% marking).

It should also be said that at present the probability of finding in a store a washer-dryer with an energy efficiency class below C, and a washing machine with a class below B is very small.

Functionality in washing mode

We are considering washer-dryers, that is, washing is still in the first place in the name of the appliances. Drying is an auxiliary function (despite this, we will consider it in detail below). So let's start a close acquaintance with the models included in the review with their "washing capabilities".

The main washing feature of the Samsung WD1142XVR is the Eco Bubble washing technology. The point is that detergent is mixed with water, foam (air bubbles) is generated - but all this happens before the wash begins. Ready-made detergent foam composition goes to the linen. The manufacturer claims that the air washing foam penetrates the fabric faster and is evenly distributed over it - the quality of washing improves. Note that Eco Bubble wash is available with most washing programs, activated by default. In some washing cycles, it is possible to turn it off. In general, the washing “software” is at its best here: multi-temperature washing of cotton, synthetics, washing program for woolen items, washing of bed linen, sports items, children’s clothes, quick wash, economical (long, at low water temperature), wash in small amount of water, intensive. There is a "Rinse and spin" mode. You can assign additional rinses (up to five cycles). There is auto-weighing and, according to its results, the optimization of washing parameters. Spin - up to 1200 rpm (variable intensity, can be turned off). There is a washing drum cleaning mode (without detergents). By the way, the drum here is Samsung's signature Diamond Drum - the size of the water holes is 36% smaller than the size of the holes in the drums of conventional washing machines (Samsung, presumably), the special structure of the drum surface - promotes rapid wetting, minimizes the risk of damage to the fabric during washing. Illuminated drum (comfortable to load and unload). It is impossible not to say about the “Dry Wash” technology - this is “washing” without water, without detergents, with the help of a powerful stream of hot air. This is how the “Odor Removal” and “Sterilization” modes work (their temperature settings are different, not changeable). In the Samsung WD1142XVR washing machine, a washing cycle is implemented depending on the weight and type of laundry being washed. The weight of the laundry is determined by the machine itself (auto-weighing, intelligent washing control system), while the type (washing program) is set by the user. Based on these data, the machine draws up a washing algorithm, calculates the water consumption, the duration of the various stages of washing.

Bosch WVD24460OE. A model without automatic weighing of loaded laundry and the formation of a washing “scenario” based on the loading data. But, in general, everything is quite worthy here with washing. Washing programs are enough to wash a lot of things: multi-temperature cycles for washing cotton (including prewash for very dirty items), multi-temperature cycles for synthetics, woollens, children's clothes, sportswear, dark clothes that do not require special care (program " Intensive"), a program for things made of mixed fabrics, a super-fast fifteen-minute wash (the washing temperature is user-adjustable everywhere, but there are hardware temperature limits - their own for each of the cycles). It is possible to activate an extra rinse or use the Rinse mode separately. Spin with variable intensity and full shutdown - up to 1200 rpm. There is a “Night” wash cycle (for example, for cases when the house uses an electricity meter that takes into account its different billing depending on the time of day) - with a reduced spin intensity and a deactivated end-of-wash sound signal. Here is a special design of the drum - with perforated metal grips: the laundry is not only "bathed", but also "takes a shower". This, the manufacturer convinces, allows you to reduce costs (electricity, water, detergent) - things get wet faster, the washing solution penetrates into them faster, and also achieve high-quality washing.

Siemens WD14H441. There are multi-temperature cycles for cotton items (the temperature is set by the user), an economical cotton cycle, there is a wash for synthetics, items from mixed fabrics, a wool wash program, delicate linen (silk), there is a fifteen-minute super-fast wash, a shirt wash mode (from different fabrics that do not require ironing), the “Impregnation” program for sports items, products with a climate membrane, functional items, waterproof items (with subsequent impregnation with a special composition that maintains the properties of clothing). In most wash cycles, the user is free, within certain limits, to change the temperature settings. There is a mode of refreshing things, eliminating odors - clothes are simply well ventilated (loading - up to 1 kg). We note the presence here of the VarioSoft branded washing drum - there are drop-shaped protrusions on its surface, the grips are asymmetric, have steep and flat sides - depending on the direction of rotation of the drum, things are subjected to strong or gentle mechanical stress (especially gentle or intensive washing, depending on the program) . Auto-weighing and building wash cycles based on data on the degree of load - no.

Washer-dryer LG F1496AD3. Washing programs are enough to keep things clean. There are different-temperature cotton cycles, a cycle for woolen items (it is also a cycle for things made of fabrics for which hand washing is recommended), the Daily Wash cycle (it is also a cycle for synthetics), special cycles for washing sportswear and children's clothes (with temperatures up to 95ºС). There is a thirty-minute cycle - for a quick wash of lightly soiled items. Special mode "Intensive 60" - an hourly cycle for cotton or mixed items with an average degree of soiling. Each of the cycles has its own loading parameters (see the instruction manual), as well as the ability, within certain limits, to change the water temperature. We also mention the 6 Motion technology (“Six movements of care”) implemented here - drum rotation algorithms specially developed by LG Electronics specialists for different programs, and therefore different things, fabrics: “Reverse rotation”, “Saturation”, “Swing”, “Twisting ”, “Smooth”, “Basic rotation”. In short, the point is that certain rotation algorithms are integrated into each washing program, which are optimal for obtaining high-quality washing results - the user only needs to select a program, and the machine “knows” itself how to rotate the drum (hello, Leonid Arkadyevich!). I wonder what singer Valeria likes more - “Swaying” or “Basic rotation”? Spin with variable intensity and shutdown - up to 1400 rpm. Separate rinse and spin cycle.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU). Despite the fact that this washer-dryer is presented in the budget price segment, everything is here for high-quality washing. Cotton multi-temperature cycles (including the possibility of prewashing for very dirty laundry), a separate cycle for colored cottons, a cycle for synthetics, a program for washing clothes made of wool, a program for delicate items (silk, viscose, etc.), Jeans - for jeans, Sport Light mode - for washing not very dirty sportswear, socks, Sport Shoes cycle - for textile shoes. You can assign an additional rinse. Quite a sufficient number of programs for high-quality washing. There are a number of additional options: EcoTime - optimization of washing parameters for a reduced load of cotton and synthetic items, "Easy Ironing" - to reduce the number of wrinkles, creases on linen at the end of washing. There is a delay start timer - for 3, 6 and 9 hours. Spin with variable intensity, but there are only two positions: 500 and 1000 rpm. Spinning cannot be turned off (just in some washing cycles the machine stops with water, and then the user can choose whether to drain the water without spinning or start spinning, depending on the type of laundry being washed) - a typical solution for budget models. Since the model is budgetary, there is no intelligent washing control system (calculation of water consumption, washing time depending on the weight of the laundry, type of fabric, degree of soiling of things). However, this does not affect the final result, directly on the quality of washing, washing here is class A.

Zanussi ZKG2125. Another budget copy in our review. But, we repeat, today a budget washing (washing and drying) machine does not mean a bad washing machine. With washing programming, everything is quite adequate here: as always, different-temperature cotton cycles (the temperature is chosen by the user, there is a prewash), there is a cycle for synthetics (only forty degrees water), a special wash cycle taking into account subsequent ironing (extra rinse, gentle spin), economical cycle for cotton or synthetic items, for various delicate fabrics, "Hand wash", cycles for jeans and sportswear. You can assign an extra rinse to most programs, you can activate the rinse and spin separately. Spin with variable intensity (up to 1200 rpm) and with the ability to turn off. There is a timer to delay the start of the wash. A normal set of programs - there is everything for washing most of the things that are usually washed. There is not only an intelligent washing control system - the washing parameters are standard (water consumption, time, washing cycle algorithm), set at the stage of machine production and invariable depending, for example, on the degree of loading of the machine.

Drying technology

Drying in washer-dryers occurs due to an additional heating element, which heats not water, but air, which, thanks to the fan, passes through the duct to the tank. Drying occurs due to hot air entering the rotating (most often reversible) drum. Further, the air that has passed through the processed things has two ways - depending on the type of drying implemented in a particular model of the washer-dryer.

Drying in the washer-dryers presented here is technologically different. Most of the models that have fallen into the review (and in general the washer-dryers now presented in stores) - all except the Siemens model - offer the user the so-called condensation drying. In simple words, at the moment of drying in the machine, this is what happens: warm air saturated with laundry (which was previously driven through the heating element by a fan) passes through a condenser, in which cold water is used to dry the incoming air (moisture condensation). Here, the air gives off moisture and heat and, when dried, returns to the laundry drum (again through the fan and heater). Moisture from the condenser is discharged into the sewer. Since cold water is used to condense moisture from the air in the condenser, the total water consumption during the washing-drying process is greater.

In the Siemens WD 14H441 washer-dryer, drying is also condensing, only water is not used during the drying process. The fan drives air through the heating element, the heated air removes moisture from the linen. Hot moist air enters the condenser, which is cooled by air from the apartment (there is another fan for this, it draws this room temperature air into the machine). Dry air then returns to the heating element again, having passed through the main fan, and then again enters the drum. The air condenser acts as a heat and moisture exchanger. Moisture from it then goes to the sewer. In this case, the water consumption of the machine is reduced - saving, however.

But that's not all. Drying also happens in time and to a certain degree of residual moisture. In the first case, the user usually selects the type of fabric (for example, cotton or synthetics) and sets the drying time himself - depending on the capabilities of a particular model of washer-dryer (as a rule, a maximum of 180 minutes). In the second case, by selecting the type of fabric, the user also selects the desired degree of drying. Usually this is Iron Dry - for things that need to be ironed further (residual moisture in this case softens the folds, making ironing easier), Dry on a hanger (for things that, having remained slightly damp, but less wet than after wringing , can “sag” in case of any slight wrinkling that does not need to be completely dried), “Cupboard” drying - for things that need to be completely dry (immediately put away for storage in the closet).

Drying to a certain degree of residual moisture is possible thanks to temperature sensors that measure the temperature of the moist air entering the condenser or leaving the machine and the temperature of the dry air directly in the washer-dryer. Based on these data, the degree of humidity of the "exhaust" air is determined, the obtained data is compared with the indicators that should be at the degree of humidity of things specified by the user. When these values match, the drying process stops. Until a few years ago, drying "by residual moisture" was a "privilege" of premium models, but now almost all washer-dryers have it. Including it is implemented in all the models reviewed here, as well as drying by time (now the norm is two types of drying in one washer-dryer).

Functionality of drying modes

Next, we will talk directly about the drying capabilities of each of the washer-dryers presented in the review. Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR has in its arsenal automatic drying (up to a certain degree of humidity) and time. In the first case, you can select drying "In the cupboard" and "Under iron", also activate gentle drying at a lower temperature (for things made of thin, so-called "delicate" fabrics). There is a special quick drying mode - for a small amount of things (a pair of towels and shirts), it lasts 40 minutes. For all automatic drying programs, except for the last one, activation of the “Softness” mode is relevant - so that the laundry does not wrinkle if it is not pulled out of the machine immediately after drying (it lasts 31 minutes, of course, it can be interrupted at any time). You can also activate drying by time, dry for 30, 50, 60, 90, 120 or 150 minutes - depending on the type of fabric, humidity, number of things.

Bosch WVD24460OE. There are programs for drying to a certain residual moisture: "Intensive" and "Careful". They differ in temperature indicators in the process, designed for different types of things. A "symbiosis of dryers" is available - you can set drying presets for humidity and time: automatic drying plus an additional 5 to 20 minutes of drying (in 5 minute increments). There is also a separate drying time (the programs indicated above with different temperature conditions are also activated, the user simply sets the drying time himself). The maximum drying time that can be set is 120 minutes.

Siemens WD 14H441. Here, as in any modern washer-dryer, there is drying to a certain degree of residual moisture, and in time. And functionally, everything is about the same as that of the Bosch model, which is not surprising - one manufacturer. There are also different-temperature "Intensive" and "Careful" drying programs to residual moisture, they can also be activated in the "manual" mode - by independently setting the drying time depending on the type of fabric, needs (under the iron, in the closet, etc.) .

LG F1496AD3. Drying to a certain degree of humidity and time. Automatic drying programs: "Under the iron", "In the cupboard", "Low temperature" (especially gentle) - programs for different things, different types of fabric. There is also an “Eco-drying” cycle - this is how the manufacturer beautifully called drying by time (30, 60, 90, 120 or 150 minutes). The maximum possible load depends on the selected drying time (information is in the instruction manual). At the end of drying, if the user does not unload the machine (does not open the hatch), it automatically switches to the "Cooling" mode - the drum sometimes makes several turns to minimize creasing of things (the formation of deep folds, creases). This mode lasts four hours (you can interrupt at any time), then the machine turns off.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU). Drying to a certain degree of residual moisture and time. By humidity: cycles "In the closet", "On a hanger", "Under the iron" - depending on the specific needs, type of things, fabric. By time: 40, 60, 100 or 180 minutes. A step of 40 minutes after an hour of drying is perhaps too large, the user may experience problems, especially at the beginning of operation: under-dried or over-dried things. But here, even despite the lack of a display, everything is very easy and understandable - there is a separate rotary programmer for drying programs. You just select the desired mode with one turn and press "on".

Zanussi ZKG2125. No cardinal differences. There is drying to a certain degree of residual moisture, there is drying by time. Automatic drying by humidity - the programs "Under iron" and "In the closet" imply a different degree of load for different things and types of fabrics (the user selects "Cotton" or "Synthetics", detailed information is in the accompanying documents of the machine). Also different temperature conditions (autosetting). You can also select the desired drying time by pressing the "Drying" button on the control panel (drying by time).

If this were a review of washing machines, then one could simply indicate the loading indicators in the summary table of characteristics. But for washer-dryers, it is logical to pay special attention to loading. So, the champion here is the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR. But, again, she does not participate in the main competition, because her dimensions differ from those relevant for other models in the review of the standard ones (“usual” dimensions: height - 80-85 cm, width and depth about 60 cm) - she is larger in size ( see summary table above). Therefore, in terms of loading, it has no equal among the monitored models. At a time, she can wash up to 14 kg of things, and dry up to 7 kg. As you can see, all the same, with a washing load, more than half of the things will have to be laid out. In the case of an adequate load (up to 7 kg), it is possible to activate a non-stop washing-drying cycle - without a pause between these two processes.

The rest of the washer-dryers have standard dimensions for such devices (smaller than the Samsung machine), and therefore they have less capacity. Bosch WVD24460OE washes up to 5 kg, and dries up to 2.5 (not enough by modern standards), there is also a combined cycle (at the same time, even for washing, you need to load no more than 2.5 kg of things). Siemens WD14H441 washes up to 7 kg of things, and dries up to 4 kg, and there is a combined wash and dry cycle, you can wash no more than 4 kg of things if it is activated. LG F1496AD3 washes up to 8 kg, and dries up to 4 kg, you can wash and immediately dry 4 kg of things. Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) - washing 6 kg, and loading when drying according to the manufacturer's information - up to 5 kg. A rather unusual ratio of indicators for such devices - only a little less things are dried than washed (usually half or a little more is dried). Questions arise about the quality of drying (after all, in order to dry well, things need a spacious drum, but here it is “normal”). Note that the Indesit machine has a special Wash & Dry cycle - this is a combined washing cycle (in thirty-degree water) and drying, but it is specific here: it lasts only 40 minutes and is designed to process 0.5 kg of things. If you want to quickly refresh and dry a couple of T-shirts, this cycle is for you. Zanussi ZKG2125 - "washing" load up to 6 kg, "drying" - up to 4 kg (such information is available on the manufacturer's website, but the instruction manual says about 3 kg of cotton items and 2 kg of synthetics). Here you can wash and dry "non-stop", again, observing the load norms and still focusing on the instruction manual.

Cuff and cuvette, leakage protection

Before summing up, - a couple more points. The first one is "rubber". We are talking about such an unremarkable (especially for a potential buyer in a store, whose eyes widen from the abundance of models, and his ears are busy with the sweet speeches of sales assistants) details, like a hatch door seal. It is made of rubber for washer-dryers and serves to seal the washing process. However, it is arranged in such a way that it usually has a certain recess in the middle part, a cavity, if you like. And that's where water usually accumulates. It accumulates if the evacuation from there is not properly organized - the drain holes are not located where they should be. And the water in the cuff of the hatch is wrong. These are microbes with bacteria, this is unnecessary moisture. At one time, some problems in this sense were observed in some Indesit models. We look at what “with holes” the IWDC 6105 (EU) has - to be honest, it doesn’t look very good. One hole, and even then some, let's say, inexpressive, half covered with the same cuff rubber. We do not like this approach.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU)

The Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR has three drain holes, fortunately they are not blocked by anything and, in general, are in the right place (in terms of level). Bosch WVD24460OE and Siemens WD14H441 - these models have three neat holes for draining the "cuff" water. But at Siemens they are slightly lower, which is slightly better. The LG F1496AD3 has three drain holes, and one is generally located "at the bottom" of the cuff - logical and correct. The Zanussi ZKG2125 has a lot of drain holes in general, they are arranged in such a way that water should get into them by itself - the part where it is usually collected has a slight slope to the holes.

Cuvettes for detergents and rinse aids (softeners) are removable for all washer-dryers in the review. This is correct - the cuvette should be thoroughly washed and wiped dry at regular intervals - to avoid the formation of mold, as well as the cavity into which it is inserted. In the "non-removable" case, quality care is difficult. It is also good when the cuvette has removable elements (usually this is a limiter in the rinse aid container). The reviewed models are also good with this - everything that is needed is removed.

Protection against leaks, its presence is a factor that plays an important role in the quality of operation of the washer-dryer. Technology is technology - it sometimes breaks down. It is important that no breakdowns lead to flooding of the room where the machine is installed, neighbors from below. The point is that special sensors monitor the integrity of the water supply and discharge system. In the event of malfunctions (leaks), the water supply to the washing machine will be interrupted thanks to the leakage protection. All the washer-dryers included in the review are protected to varying degrees from leaks. To a different extent - because protection can be implemented in several ways.

In the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR washer-dryer, as well as in Bosch and Siemens models, leakage protection is complete. In them, water is supplied and drained through special double-walled hoses, with solenoid valves at the ends, which shut off the flow of water in case of damage to the hose. The bottom of these washing machines is hermetically sealed, there are special sensors (they can be of the float type), if liquid gets on them (or after surfacing to a certain level of the float), the water supply to the washer-dryer is turned off.

Washer-dryers LGF1496AD3, Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU), Zanussi ZKG2125 have leakage protection. The water supply hoses here are ordinary (this does not mean that they are of poor quality). Note that “protected” hoses are sold in stores, it is not difficult to find them, and, as a rule, it is possible to install such hoses (hose) on any modern washing machine (including the trio from this paragraph). But these are additional expenses: for the purchase, for installation (it is advisable to entrust it to a specialist).

Opinion site

So, here we have examined in some detail six washer-dryers, models that are currently widely represented in Russian stores (this, of course, is not all commercially available washer-dryers, but, in general, there are not so many of them) .

It is worth thinking about purchasing a washer-dryer (you can add your options in the comments):

  • Bachelors;
  • Small families - from two, maximum three people (with the exception of machines with a large load, such as the Samsung model from the review);
  • Families with small children (it happens that some children's things are urgently needed, there is no time to dry after washing in the usual way);
  • People living in very small apartments, in apartments where there is no possibility of traditional drying (ropes on the balcony, for example).

Do not buy a washer-dryer:

  • If it is planned to constantly wash clothes for more than two or three people in it;
  • If there are many washings in the family;
  • If you are not ready to pay a little more for electricity.

If there was a Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR washer-dryer of standard dimensions for such equipment, if it were cheaper, it would be the best among the entire sextet. But in our situation, when everything is as it is, it remains to state that the Samsung model is a beautiful, roomy and safe washer-dryer that is suitable (unlike the others reviewed) for a large family. At the same time, however, she will need more space for installation. Since she is beautiful, it is desirable that she be still visible. That is, for example, installing it in a special room (for washing, drying, ironing clothes - such things happen, for example, in country houses) is rather strange. If there is such a room, it is generally better to buy a separate washing machine and dryer. In general, Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR stands out against the background of fairly standard-looking colleagues in the shop with a bright and successful design experiment and offers excellent washer-dryer functionality. It has convenient and clear control, a new digital (inverter) motor. We award her a special jury prize (the editors of our portal). But for the reasons indicated above, we cannot award the first place - it would be dishonest in relation to other participants in the review.

Bosch WVD24460OE and Siemens WD14H441, although they differ in cost, are in many ways similar to each other (mainly functionally). The design of both models has already been mentioned above - no frills, in the German style, but a bit boring (however, the Germans always have their own “fans” in this sense). The washer-dryer functionality, in general, fully complies with modern requirements. I did not like the loading of the Bosch model - 5 kg and 2.5 kg during drying - it will not be enough. In general, "normal heroes". And there are no complaints about the Siemens model at all - here the loading is adequate, and the set of programs, and the build quality. There are no problems with management either, everything, in general, is easy and simple. Only here are the buttons-sensors, which are not clear what - buttons or sensors - are a little embarrassing (but, probably, this is a matter of habit). Both cars are strong middle peasants, “good business executives”, if you like. Siemens is more impressive, but, perhaps, mainly because of its appearance, plus this model has normal load indicators.

Washer-dryer LG F1496AD3. Everything about her is good. Appearance, although without pretension, but with a little zest (circular illumination of the program selection, for example). The set of washing and drying programs is adequate. In any case, it will definitely be enough for most of the everyday and not only everyday “washing needs”. Specially designed washing drum (by the way!) - with a embossed surface optimized for the Six Care Movements technology (see above). Good wash load. There is the possibility of washing and drying "non-stop" (load up to 4 kg of dirty clothes, then take out clean and dry). An economical inverter motor of the new generation Direct Drive with a direct drive system, for which the manufacturer gives a ten-year warranty (the manufacturer also positions it as quite quiet in operation, but if you look at the official noise figures - in the table at the beginning of the review - there is not much difference from " you will not see ordinary "motors of most other cars). If something in the car stops working or works somehow incorrectly, Smart Diagnostic will help. The point is that the user who called the technical support service is told a combination of buttons that must be pressed on the control panel, after which the phone’s microphone must be brought to the speaker built into the washing machine, with which a sound combination will sound. In turn, special equipment in the service center deciphers the sound combination and displays information about the malfunction. Thus, the user can eliminate many malfunctions on his own, following the instructions of the service center engineer. If the malfunction turns out to be serious, then a service center specialist will come to the user already with the spare parts necessary for repair. The technology allows you to recognize up to 78 different errors. This model is clearly the leader in its segment of home appliances.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU). If it weren’t for the “bad hole” in the cuff of the hatch, the car would be among the budget leaders. And so - a fly in the ointment. Otherwise, everything is very good. Washer and dryer is adequate. Looks modest, but not sadly modest. Even more informative control panel. There are only symbols-pictograms on it - someone will understand them normally, remember them, and someone will always have to look into the instruction manual. The words on the panel in English: Daily, Special, Dry, etc. - are clear to someone, but they will confuse someone. Yes, and one more thing: after all, there are two positions of spin intensity and the impossibility of turning it off simply with a button - although, as noted, it is a traditional solution for budget models, but not so user-friendly. Small variability in start delay time. Look - found in the end, what to complain about. Now it’s not even clear whether the car would have taken place as a “budget leader” if the “hole” was “good”. Are there operators? Share your impressions in the comments.

The Zanuss iZKG2125 has a better spin than the Indesit - it turns off - and more intensity adjustment positions. A set of washing and drying programs that is normal for a relatively inexpensive machine, good build quality and not a frightening appearance. But here is the control panel ... Or rather, not the entire panel, but a rotary programmer. It seems to us overloaded with numerical values, symbols that are not always clear, and even some strange scale around. At the same time, if the manufacturer of the Indesit model, albeit in the form of pictograms, put information about programs on the front of the cuvette, then there is nothing of this here - the user will always have to look into the instruction manual (someone, of course, will get used to it, remember especially if mostly the same cycles are used, but not all). In general, everything is good, but there are some shortcomings.

If, nevertheless, we distribute our preferences between the models, which, I think, may well serve as a recommendation for someone to buy or not to buy, then, leaving the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR in proud unattainable loneliness, in first place among the "ordinary" washer-dryers of the machines included in the review, we will put forward a model from LG - F1496AD3. Silver for Siemens WD14H441. The third place, with a serious, however, reservation regarding low load, is still given to Bosch WVD24460OE. Behind it is the Zanussi ZKG2125 - there are fewer minor flaws than the Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) car, which, moreover, has not too happy affairs with the drain hole in the hatch cuff (and this drawback, in our opinion, is not so small ).
